Really happy with this saw – cut a few smallish trees down and subsequently cut those trunks and branches – all very easy – used to do the with a hand saw – wish I’d bought this sooner!

Very versatile tool, just used mine taking down three wooden garden sheds.
    I like its versatility.
I dislike it’s transmission of vibration.

This is a very sturdy and powerful saw that makes short work of wood, metal & plastic, as long as the correct blade is fitted. The Makita M4501 saw is not sold with its own carry case but is bundled with two 150mm blades, one for wood and one for metal. Blades that are used by this saw are of a universal design and so are easy to source.
The key-less chuck allows for easy blade changes and the shoe is easy to adjust, remove and replace. Usefully, the easy to replace carbon brushes are externally accessible.
The variable speed trigger does need to be used with care, as the saw will quickly achieve maximum speed. Unfortunately the lock-on button only engages when the trigger is fully depressed which means the saw will then only run at full speed. The other slight drawback is the length of the power cord which at about 2 metres, could have been a bit longer.
Due to the power, noise and dust generated, eye and ear protection are essential, as is a dust mask. The vibration experienced at high speed and under high load can be quite intense, so a firm but not too tight grip is preferable.
The 3.25kg weight does require some getting used to, but is not unreasonable as the high end, pro-grade reciprocating saws can weigh in at up to 6kg!
In conclusion, I think this is an excellent product sold at a very competitive price.
    Highly Recommended.

Fantastic for pruning. I bought longer blades for it and you can get through some quite thick trunks and branches with ease. Very pleased with the product.

Ultimate destroyer!!! No finesse but if you want somethin to tear through chunky timber in seconds, this is an animal. I’ve also got a B&D scorpion saw and there’s no comparison. The scorpion is all noise and no cutting but this is like a hot knife through butter !! Superb saw !!!

I love makita power tools and this did not disappoint. I bought this to help me with dismantling pallets and they did not stand a chance.
The saw is weighty but in way that fills you with confidence that it is up to the job. The blades are very easy to change too.
If your after a reciprocating saw on a budget look no further.

Does exactly what i bought it for. Well made very good price. It’s actually 30 cheaper than a well known diy store that sells lots of screws to fix things. Quick blade change plenty of power. Variable speed, tough blades. Very happy with it. it’s a real man style tool nothing flimsy about it. GRRRRRRRR

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFantastic, my first Makita tool and wow, not just incredible build quality, but you can buy replacement parts down to the molecule on their website.
Took photo of the tool next to my wallet as it is quite large, but feels very secure and confident in the hand.
Also comes with 2 saw bits as photo’d, one wood and one metal.
No bag or case included with this model unfortunately.
Universal saw bits, so you can buy any manufacturers, they all work on the same connection.
Worth mentioning, the toolless saw mechanism is very clever, simply turn the bit “nozzle” 45 degrees round which releases the bit and the latch stays open, then insert a new bit and the pressure of the bit end against the back of the “nozzle” releases the latch and it locks closed again. Incredibly simple and very effective.
The hair trigger is excellent, more pressure applies more speed to the bit.
The only negatives I have are that it’s quite heavy and that the power cable is not very long, only about 3 meters, would have liked more length on it, but that’s very minor as you’ll likely be using an extension cable for most jobs anyway.
If you’ve come across this, just pick it up, it’s a seriously beautiful bit of kit, gets jobs done incredibly quickly

    What a bit of kit!
