Just a perfect caliper in every way. Can’t go wrong with it and it’s the go to caliper in the precision machine shop I’m in.

Product functions as intended. Has been very solid for the few things I've measured so far. I plan on putting this to use for better fitment in future projects!

I have been using cheap Chinese calipers for years. The difference between the Mitutoyo and the cheap Chinese calipers is night and day. The machine work of the Mitutoyo calipers is of a very high standard. Granted the price difference is huge, but after using the Mitutoyo calipers I can say the price difference is worth it in my case. I should have bought these years ago. Highly recommend Mitutoyo over anything else.

The quality of these calipers was so evident, even if they were knock offs, I'd be happy. This of course is impossible, since only Japanese manufacturing can achieve this level of precision and finish. There's a reason for the cost - this quality can't be provided cheaper. Worth every penny.

I expected these to be great and they are. That said, they seem right on par with an old pair of iGuaging calipers I had that cost less than half as much... Of course those ended up rusting internally somehow despite never getting wet and being kept in their case in a climate controlled room their entire life sooo..soon... Hoping for a long life put of these.

I was concerned about receiving a counterfeit Mitutoyo caliper after reading so many reviews but I can tell you that these are genuine Mitutoyo. I used the same type for years as a machinist. Don't mess with cheap knock-offs. Buy these.

Mine is Authentic - Works Beautifully
There is no suggestion of non-Japanese manufacture in my caliper. The box stripes, the least significant digit readout, shipping papers, all indicate Japan origin.

It’s a beautiful caliper. Smooth as heck. Readout not jumpy. No need to constantly re-zero. Button layout is logical and intuitive. I could never understand why some calipers have a separate on and off button.

I’m quite satisfied with mine. It seems genuine. I’d buy it again.

This is not a cheap Chinese nock off. Smooth action and holds it calibration well. The only reason I rated “easy to use” as a 4 was because it doesn’t have an auto on feature like my 12” Mitutoyo. Mitutoyo evidently did this to help save the battery, but this isn’t the fault of the seller.

The only negative about these I am noticing right now is the surface finish and burrs on a few of the non-critical surfaces. They measure fine, but I was slightly disappointed in the fit and finish of those few areas. The other Mitutoyo calipers I've used haven't been like this. It's not a big deal, but it is there.

Made in Japan, you know won't go wrong; it does cost a lot more than China copies, but all the controls are smooth and easy to use, no lag on anything. Although I'm sure a $20 China made one can do the job too, but if you have a choice will you pick made in China? lol

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy 50 year old Mitutoyo 505-637-50 (analog 6") finally broke. Mitutoyo USA answered my email request for service in an hour, but said they can't get parts. No complaints, it was 50 years old. Bought the 500-196-30 digimatic because it is metric/inches and analog was one or the other. (My 12" digimatic which is 40 years old works great.) Mitutoyo has a warranty and factory service here in USA. None of the $20-50 Chinese calipers on Amazon mention a warranty. The 500-196-30 was $107 and I expect it will last 40 years. Excellent value.

Quality digital caliper from a reputable brand. Plenty of resources online to verify if you received a genuine product.
Got a 0.5″ Mitutoyo steel gauge block (grade 0) as reference and it read perfectly at 0.5000″.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFantastic Performance
Let me show you just one example of what quality looks like in callipers, in my included pictures one set of callipers is Neiko, (a respectable calliper for its price). Being measured in the pictures is a 0.002″ shim. The Neiko performs well under ideal conditions a tolerance of +/- 0.0005″ or half a thousandth of an inch is to be expected as the minimum resolution of both calipers is 0.0005″ despite that both callipers nail the measurement at exactly 0.002″. Notice how when the shim is moved to the tips of the callipers it disappears while the Mitutoyo carry the correct reading across the entire face of the calliper I’ve done this test with fair intentions, excessive force can translate into a miss reading across any calliper face and therefore I try to mimic the exact same force that was used to measure closer to the rail of the callipers. People might be surprised to learn that the digital gauge technology for reading half thousandths of an inch is cheap, almost ubiquitous in the industry what isn’t standard in the industry and fairly expensive to produce is tight tolerance machining. Both callipers have a memory function to keep their place in space when turned off, however only one of them zero’s perfectly every time when closed.

If you need to measure as close as possible to the 0.001″ with callipers you need Mitotoyo’s, beyond that you need something more than just callipers.

Mine passed all the fake tests but I’m not a machinist and of course maybe the forger’s have improved their game but just Incase l feel like these are exceptionally good in fit n finish and accuracy as far as l can tell.

    Excellent Calipers
After reading about all the fakes I was a bit apprehensive about order via amazon but since I could just send them back I thought “why not”. I went through all the usually checks and am pretty convinced they are the real deal. Use a caliper calibration block and nailed each size as one would expect. Not a professional tradesman so these will be used casually and will most likely be the last pair I need to buy for a long time going by first impressions.

I have this one for the workshop.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LPIWAYO/

I wanted a second one for inside the house. So I bought this caliper. Knowing what I know now, I’d have spend the extra money to get the one I bought before for 2 main reasons.

    1 – This one doesn’t auto-power off.

2 – The buttons are small and practically flush with the plastic face.

Neither of which was an issue with the other one. The other doesn’t even have a power button it powers up and down automatically.

Functionally it works fine and seems well made. I’d just rather not be annoying by trying to press buttons it should be easy to press. Or opening the carrying case and noticing it was still turned on.

It’s been over a year since I purchased my calipers and they’ve held up greatly. Within half a thousandth accuracy repeatedly just making sure I’m straight and not canted is the difference and used micrometers to double check and usually within .0001” to .00005” and held up to the coolant droplets and shavings of metal that I constantly wipe off to measure.

Nothing more to say really. The certificate# matched the device.

The only thing I would say, and that’s related to the battery compartment. It’s seems very easy to remove.

The compartment cover does get retained by the clips and hasn’t popped open yet. Not downgrading for that reason.
Who knows – Maybe it’s just me used to feeling that you nearly have to break something to open plastic covers and this is actually how they should all be.

For years now, I've used some cheaper name brand calipers to do my reloading projects at home and though I get a few years of pretty good use out of them, they always become inaccurate and gritty feeling, so this time, I elected to put in some extra coin and go with quality name brand calipers, and I wish I would have just gone this route before. I've used Mitutoyo products in my profession for many years and they always hold up for long periods of time. The slide, readout, and accuracy of these are unparalleled when it comes to comparing them with pretty much anyone's cheaper calipers. I can always trust Mitutoyo to be what I'm looking for. Great price too!

    It's not a wrench!!
It’s a delicate lab instrument and not a wrench that you just throw on the bench while measuring bullets or whatever. I received mine with a battery that is only a few months old.
    PROS –
    – Accuracy is high and consistent
    – I like the fact someone put their name on the QA/QC data sheet

CONS – Mechanics of the jaws have a bit of slop, if you take a measurement inside the jaws measurement is consistent. If you take the same measurement towards the outer edge of the jaw the reading will be the same IF you do not drive the thumb wheel too hard. If you press the thumb wheel hard the measurement will be reduced a few thousands.
I find it’s easier and more consistently accurate if you just close the jaws (press at the base rather than the tips) manually and do not use the thumb wheel.

What can I say, I LOVE THESE CALIPERS!!! I've had around 12 sets from various makers over the past few years and every set has had a week point whether it be jumpy, inaccurate, constant need to rezero, rough sliding mechanism, extremely sensitive to pressure, you name it. Not with these! I primarily use them in my reloading and occasionally to get a "rough measurement" on parts I make on my lathe. If you are thinking about getting them just go ahead and do it, and save yourself some time and aggitation. If I had bought these to begin with I would've even saved a few bucks overall.

This is the Real Mitutoyo 500-196-30
For what I received, this was the Real Mitutoyo 500-196-30 and not a Chinese knock-off.

For the battery, I used a 357 but not the SR44 which came with the caliper. The trick was removing the battery from the compartment since the 357 is a touch larger than the SR44. For this, I used a small piece of duck tape to pull the battery out of the compartment.
For the caliper, I only use this when needed. Most of the time, it remains in storage. As such, I do not want to leave the battery inside when not being used for a while.

I ordered this to measure shims while doing a valve adjustment. The first order got lost but I had to wait another week for Amazon to make sure it really was lost before I could reorder and then another week plus for it to arrive. Did the job with my brother's digital caliper that cost a third what this one does and it did work fine once I figured out it was always .02mm over. Is this one worth three times the cost? I appreciate the craftsmanship, precision, fit and finish of the Mitutoyo and the pleasure using of a premium tool so for me it is worth it.

Costly but you get your money's worth.
Mine just showed up from the courier, After doing all the checks necessary to ensure it is not a fake I can attest the ones sold directly by Amazon are the real McCoy.

Everything about this digital caliper screams quality. It has zero deflection between the main jaws. The battery was NOT installed and is the Maxell SR44SW battery expected in this caliper All of the other checks — case quality, caliper metal finish, breaking the sharpness of most edges, plastic parts quality, 0.0000 with full size digits in inch mode, QC certificate has a proper signature and is not washed out, etc…

The caliper works as smooth as butter and measuring tolerances are within spec.

    Very happy with my purchase.

This a very accurate, easy to read caliper. I'm not a digital caliper kind of guy but this is one I dont mind using. I have a few Mitutoyo calipers and gauge blocks and they just make affordable, quality tools. I would definitely recommend spending a few extra bucks and buy these instead of the cheaper made in China crap. You'll be happier in the long run. The only con is the onsite memory is glitchy, doesn't keep the reading. I'm not going to use that feature anyway so...I don't care. Hope this helps.

Was looking for some Digital Calipers and after some research decided the Mitutoyo ones to be the most reasonable and a good product. I was sceptical about this item via Amazon due to the mention of fake items. The price is t too bad if you want quality. I have YouTubed and I am 100% satisfied this item is not fake. The attached pictures will show you and feel free to compare to the fake items mentioned on the internet. The battery is an SR44SW which the genuine product comes with, although the description states LR44, which is incorrect. The serial numbers match the paperwork, the display is crystal clear, as are the instructions font, paper quality and general layout. The knurled locking nut at the top is smaller than the fake ones, another indication these are genuine. Although I’ve not used them yet, I’m satisfied that these are the bees knees and this is a genuine item and can’t wait to use them for motorcycle maintenance.

I was hesitant to buy these because there are so many fakes out there. But after a lot of research (well 30 minutes and 3 sites worth) these are the real deal. Sold and shipped by Amazon is also a certified retailer of authentic mitutoyo calipers.
They should come with an sr44 battery and the battery itself should say sr44 not just the packaging. The fakes reportedly have lr44.
It should have yellow tag around the know and come in a sealed plastic bag. All around these fill flawless.
Originally I thought spending 140 on calipers was absurd especially since my need for them doesn’t require .0000 accuracy. But the over all quality of these is unmatchable. Prior to these I was using the igaging calipers. Won’t go back

Great quality, very sturdy and accurate. Just what I wanted. My only complaint is the plastic box: firstly it’s much bigger than other calipers I’ve used in the past. Secondly the calipers are very loose in the box so it rattles a lot when it’s in my rucksack

As someone who services my own gear (And going through a couple of chinese fakes!) these calipers are just the job, unbelievably accurate and feel solid in the hand and after using counterfeit ones you can really feel the difference, built to last, accuracy and solid feel and in a nice little case too, although I did put a piece of foam in mine as they rattled about in it! and that’s the only complaint I have!!!!!!!!
If you are thinking about buying a set get the real deal, you won’t regret it, got mine from Allendale Store and they are absolutely excellent, not cheap but worth it, but beware of counterfeits.

    Nice instrument.
I generally go through a digital caliper every year. I generally spend about 30, whilst this is much more it is value for money. It feels good and is well packaged.

    Definitely genuine
Passes all the tests for being a genuine Mitutoyo; SR44 battery, full 4-place display after decimal, and superb quality.

Expensive, but appears to be a superb instrument.
Not having a standard to compare it against, it is hard to make absolute statements about accuracy. However, it appears to be a superbly made instrument. I am impressed by the build quality. I needed a digital instrument because I have trouble reading a veneer scale.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEXCELLENT Digital Calipe
I have been using a dial caliper for hand loading for years. I recently decided get a digital caliper to make it easier to read measurements directly when using attachments on the jaws of the caliper. The first digital caliper I got was an inexpensive (~$25) instrument from a different manufacturer. That was a mistake. The inexpensive caliper was essentially useless for my purposes. It’s consistency in reading was terrible. Frustrated, I decided to just spend the $ and get a good instrument (buy once cry once). I decided on a Mitutoyo 500-196-30 – I was not disappointed. What a caliper! Very accurate. Very consistent. Very easy to use. Very easy to read. Very good battery life AND uses a commonly available inexpensive battery. I can’t find anything that I don’t like about this caliper!

I don’t usually write reviews unless the product or customer service is extraordinarily good or extraordinarily bad… This caliper is that good – worth my time and my $ (and yours too!)

    Buy with confidence!

    Well made, long battery life.
Had several of these, but the later versions have a wobbly inch/mm push button switch which is recessed and requires a finger nail to operate. Otherwise OK, stainless, and hard enough to use as a marking gauge.
