A great mower easy to set cut height and light to push.
A bit tricky getting the grass box put together but other than that the mower seems to be very good quality for the money. Powerful motor didn’t leave any cuttings behind. Would recommend.
Did a lot of research and am really pleased. A little bit heavy to use but does a large garden well. Cable is long and nice weight, however it does have a tendency to pop out of the connection on the mower, but so easy to hold in when mowing. Would recommend. Looks good too.
My fourth Moutfield during 40 years plus .. hopefully this one will last as long as the others did with constant usage. The grass “basket” collector was a little tricky/required some muscle to put together so you may need four hands to press it together – but as I use the great mulching plug these days, I don’t really use the basket. Some people have reported the plug can easily fall out of the socket in use, but if you connect cable through the little hook made for the task on the lawnmower handle, it works perfectly/stops that problem happening at all.
My last Mountfield eventually gave up after years and years of service, so I bought another. Just as great with an easy cut.
Very nice lawn mower, cuts well, long power cable and easy to use. The grass collection box was a bit of a problem putting together, but worth the effo
Unfortunately some small parts for the handle were missing,so had to get some nuts and bolts from B and Q, so could not use on the first day. However a good mower now we are operational.
after having bosch for many years thought i try mountfield , so far very pleased the grass box was a little difficult to get together but was all good in the end . i like the fact that it comes with a mulching facility witch i have not used as yet. feels well built i have only used it once due to weather but it gave a nice cut.
time will tell
Well designed and easy to use. Assembly instructions are a bit weak as are parts of the operating instructions. Good university degree will help to solve any issue

The Mountfield Princess 38 was a bit fiddly to put together, the grass collection box was a little problematic to assemble and the alignment of the handles took a little adjustment. Overall we are seeing good results. The lead is of a good length too.
Returned original purchase, a Flymo, as height lever wouldn’t stay in place. This is by far a superior mower.
It was easy to assemble. Easy to use. Great mower/ the grass box is as per the reviews hard to build but persevere…
Really great mower. Easy to use, comfortable handle and good cut. Easy to pack away.
Easy to assemble, box is easy to put together as long as you match up correctly . It does exactly what i wanted it to do and lightweight. Really happy with purchase !
Easy to build, apart from the bearing from one of the hinges to raise and lower the cutters was loose in the box, but it seemed to go in ok. The cutting is great and the motor is plenty powerful enough for the 38 cm cutting width.

Great mower except that the pin , that connects the cutting height fell out , and got chewd up .I modified a nylon spacer that works better .
Easy to assemble. Still has a plasticky feel but not cheap cheap. Seems to be well made with good adjustment settings. Light to push across the grass and the grass collector is a good size. Useful attachment to use the machine without the grass box and put the cuttings back on the grass as you cut ( healthier for the lawn). I would recommend this. Has enough power. Only down side for me is the lead is not long enough in my opinion but that’s not specific to this brand.

Brought the Mountfield princess 38 recently and can honestly say after researching lawnmowers I’m very happy with my purchase, easy to assemble very light and easy to use and cuts very well with its different heights
Hi had to return this item as was to big for my garden .contacted seller and they were amazing organised return pick up for me next day and promptly refunded me would definitely recommend them
After having had Bosch lawnmowers in the past we decided to choose a Mountfield. Wider than our previous mower and slightly heavier, it appears to be robust and does the job well. Delivery was quick and I can thoroughly recommend the seller.

Bought this to replace my old Bosch Rotack 40, as the new Bosch replacement wasn’t to my liking and had some bad revues , I have to say I’ve used it three times now and varied the cut on all occasions, it has to be said that it is a worthy replacement, cuts well and has a good sized collection box, leaves a light striping to the lawn too, all in all I’m very happy so far, I would recommend this mower !
lovely lawnmower very easy to assemble and does the job well very easy to push along as well and easy to clean as well nice little machine for a woman to push along
A nice mower! My Flymo died a death and this was a long researched alrernative. It ticked the boxes I required (except for being battery powered, but that was out of budget).
It’s foldable handle is decent without being spectacular. It’s a bit bigger than I expected, I probably would have gone a bit smaller had I seen it in person. It’s cut is neat and tidy (without being right to the edge) and it manages wet grass and clumpy grass pretty well. The mulching plug is ok, but can get overwhelmed quickly and dump grass. I am very disappointed by the striping though, its really weak (much poorer than my lightweight Flymo). Overall I’m pleased with it, it could just use a few tweaks to make it a really good product.

I’ve done one cut and it seems a decent mower and a step up from my old, smaller Flymo. It’s heavier but not unduly so and I like the wider cut, larger grass box, longer cable and quieter motor. The biggest problem I had was assembling the grass box which was akin to enduring 12 rounds with a professional wrestler. The expletives only stopped when the final click dropped into place. Thank God nothing snapped. Mountfield’s greatest minds should really have come up with a somewhat more user friendly design. But overall me and the Princess should get along just fine.

The grass box is a pain to assemble, and even now its not together fully. Not sure whether to hit it with a hammer, or sit on it.
The actual mowing is ok. It cuts and collects as it should. The rear roller is pointless. Unless there is some weight in it, it will never leave lines.
I do like the way all four wheels lift up and down when adjust the height, but I question how durable the mechanism will be.

Brilliant lawn mower best we have had so far by miles the grass box is a bit tricky to click into place but got there in the end. Mows beautifully my garden is looking the best it has in ages.
I have always known Mountfield to be good producer of petrol mowers but I didn’t want a petrol model. My dad had a petrol mower; it is noisy, smelly, difficult to start unless continually serviced. On top of that have to deal with a hazardous substance. No thanks; with electric can just use a portable RCD in the socket. Battery powered mower ? No thanks; not powerful enough and even a small one is expensive and the battery won’t last many years if my power tools are an indication. A replacement battery, of a cordless drill for example, is around 60 for a 5amp battery and one battery won’t be enough to mow the lawn once and definitely not when the grass is long. So a mains powered electric mower it has to be on the shortlist to replace a Qualcast.
Had a small Qualcast for some 6 years. It broke. After examining the mechanism I was not impressed and was surprised it lasted that long. Tried a Flymo for two years but gave it away. Although bigger model, everything more sturdy, and grass box bigger, but due to the design it collected and held no more grass then the small Qualcast. then follwed a Bosch. It was decent while it lasted for 5 years, so without even looking what’s available on the market chose another Bosch as replacement. However, always felt cheated by Bosch; the cable is shorter by 2 m and the grass box flimsy such that I fear it would crack if it’s tapped too hard to rid the grass from within.
So for one season I was back onto a Qualcast. It got my attention because it had a plug for mulch. This came in handy during first lockdown when all the municipal tips were closed and the locla council stopped collecting the green bin. The mulch option plug is so effective that the cut grass stays on the lawn and be virtually invisible. Great. But the rear roller broke. Some time just before pandemic it appears Bosch bought out Qualcast. Yes rear rollers could still be found but replacing it would cost around 20 by the time you add shipping; and do I really want to replace a roller with another roller made just as flimsy ?
Now have to really hunt for a mower that I would like. Can’t buy Qualcast for they are no more. Don’t want Flymo because had to give away the last one. Don’t wnat to be cheated by Bosch regards a short cable, and couldn’t find one of their mowers with a mulch plug option in any case. Didn’t want a lesser known brand because it would be difficult to find spare parts…..
Didn’t even know Mountfield even produced electric mowers before chance upon this Princess 38. Hurray it has a mulch plug option. Although a rear roller on a mower may not be vital but the rear roller creates the stripes. For me the strips are not for looks but for lining up for the next run othewise I may miss a bit or overlap too much, both just means the task would take more time than necessary. Examined the rear roller – hurray ! It looks sturdy with a steel rod through it. (more later). Another good point about this mower is the undercarriage is much clearer/cleaner than all the previous ones I have used. (The moulded plastic has few sharp corners for cut grass to clog or build up). This meant it was easier and quicker to clear it after a mowing session.
Have to admit that this Mountfield has only been used once but once is enough to convince me it is money well spent. Whereas long grass had to be mowed twice (at two different height settings) with my prevous mowers, this Mountfield dealt with it with only one run. In face I had to raise the cut height back up one notch because it managed to scalp parts of the lawn.
First down side. After first minutes of use the mower gave juddering vibrations. Eventually discovered the cause. The rear roller is composed of two half parts which clips together around the steel rod to form a roller. Due to poor design or manufacture, these two half cylingers tend to want to come apart thus no longer a true cylindrical shape, which in turn cause the judder. To cure the judder I judiciously applied 50mm wide insulating tape at various point along the length of the roller to force the two halves to remain together. I didn’t want to glue them together because they are meant to come apart for easy replacement when they break.
Yes it is slightly heavier than my previous mowers but for 2 good reasons. It is 38 cm rather than 36cm and more importantly some of the quoted weight is because it has 15m cable rather then miserly 10m cable.
Along with many other manufacturers wanting to save cost in warehousing and shipping costs, the grass box came in 3 parts. However, unlike other reviewers I didn’t have trouble assembling the grass box. Just clip the two bottom parts first (grey colour) then clip the top (maroon colour). When clipping the red part locate it in place then start at one inside corner (rounder corner) to start clipping to the grey coloured part (bottom of the box). Use a piece of suitable material, hard rubber or woft wood) to prop the inside while you tap with rubber mallet (or palm of your hand) on the ourside (on the red colour part). Once the clips are together on one side then do same on the other side. The whole mower assembly took 20 minutes from moment of removing items from the shipping cardboard box all without having to refer to instructions so don’t let other reviews put you off buying this mower. Comparing with my past mowers, this one is excellent and it good value even while taking higher cost into account. Alas, even 15m cable is still not long enough but it could be unplugged from the mower for ease of cleaning while its undercarriage is brushed-off of cut grass at the end of a session.
Glad I bought this 38 instead of the 42cm because the wife would find the 42 a hard push.
Love the product much better quality than all the common makes I have had would definately recommend
A big improvement on my old flymo easy to use and great cu
Bought to replace old petrol one.
Great for our small grassed area
With its nice big wheels I found this mower so easy to push. The height adjust is easy too, a large simple to use lever. The grass box is a good size and is easy to lift on/off. (yes, as other have said, it was tricky to put the box together but it is sturdy and worth the effort and after all only a one time job not every time you use it) grass cutting is no longer a chore. and done in no time at all. I would recommend this mower.
Always had petrol mowers but no complaints with this and power leads a good length

Good mower at a reasonable price. Close cut (level 1) could be better and the handle is a bit flimsy, but that’s the trade of for ease of storage. I would still recommend, with small improvements it would be 5 stars.
It cut two lawns in next to no time. The assembly was OK although the grass box (red) top was a bit difficult. It is a conventional design box that you have to press together by inserting the plastic finger strips into corresponding slots. The fingers have a raised “catch” that prevents them falling out of the slots, so have to be pressed into a place that they don’t quite fit into. Patience, slow perseverance and a dab of Fairy Liquid on each one got the job done. It looked odd though when it was used as it started foaming while mowing. All in all I am quite pleased. If stripes matter a lot to you, then you may be disappointed.
Looks the same as my old one . BUT all plastic. Even the wheels and tyers and deck . Works well and not too noisy . But just make sure the is no stones or bits of wood on the lawn as this will crack the deck
i bought this mower to replace an older, smaller electric mower that had died. My main reasons for choosing this model were the large cutting area, the included mulching fitting and the price.
As per other purchasers’ comments, the grass catcher is difficult to assemble. I had to use a pair of pliers to get the clips together, but this is a one time thing. (And I didn’t want a cloth-sided catcher).
As expected, the viewing glass to see if the grass catcher is full is useless after the first use, as it gets coated in grass. No surprise there.
I used the grass catcher for the first mow of the season. Since then I have been using the mower with the included mulching fitting. This has been excellent. The mower cuts the grass into extremely fine pieces and leaves it in place. Mostly too small to see, which saves emptying the grass catcher and multiple trips to a compost bin.
I am very happy with this.
My only negative is the roller. This is designed to leave stripes on your lawn.
I found the design to be weak.
As per my photo, it started to unclip itself from the very first use, causing a bump and strange noise in the process.
Having finally worked out what was wrong, I re-clipped it, but it continued to come undone.
I am not fussed about a striped lawn, so I removed it completely, which also reduces a lot of resistance when pushing the mower, making for a far easier and quicker mowing job.
Overall, a great lawn mower, which I recommend, except if your main reason for purchase is a striped lawn. (Of course, you could duct tape the roller to make sure it doesn’t unclip, as another option).
I brought the Princess 38 not sure why a mower is named Princess But that aside the unboxing and build set up is very straight forward just the handle and grass box to build up yes the grass box is a little fiddle but once clipped together the grass box is solid, the Princess 38 looks and feels of good quality but a little heavy , this was my first cut last weekend in Feb the grass being quite high and very green but the Princess with a 1600w motor cut through the grass with ease picking up almost of the grass cutting and filling the box to the brim, the height lever is easy to adjust and cutting up to a fence is on par with other makes, i am sure i will get a great lawn cut come the dryer summer. MID JULY AND THE MOUNTFIELD IS DOING A EXCELLENT JOB BUT THEN THE PIN TO THE ROLLER AND ROLLER FELL OFF, LUCKILY NO DAMAGE CAUSED AND WAS EASILY PUT BACK SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN Mower is back and cutting grass as should be.
Well made, easy to put together, very light for the size to carry, powerful enough to cut really quite long grass, I had a petrol Mountfield previously and it cuts the grass better than my previous mower, leaves nice strips on the lawn really pleased with this. Would absolutely recommend
