They do their job more than adequately – they light fires! The only reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that all of these products seem expensive for what they are.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUse daily for wood burner in the kitchen.
Only ever need one to get the fire going alongside good dry kindling & a few scrunched up sheets of news paper.
I keep them in the cupboard under the tv & there is next to no smell from them aside from a very faint wax candle smell if you stick your head in the box!
IMO you cannot even begin to compare these to the normal small cube style fire lighter.
they may appear expensive compared to a 2 box but you get over 200 of these.
I expect the box will certainly last me the whole fire lighting season for the year & we lit our fires a lot in the winter in Northern Ireland.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you’re tired of using those chemical-laden fire starters that leave a funky smell in your home, then it’s time to switch to natural fire lighters! These bad boys are not only high quality and sustainable, but they’re also easy to store and make lighting fires a breeze.

I’ve been using these natural fire lighters for a while now, and I have to say, I’m impressed. They’re made from natural materials like wood shavings and wax, so they don’t leave any unwanted smells or chemicals behind. Also they’re tightly wound and last a long time. And let me tell you, starting a fire has never been easier. Just pop one of these babies in the fireplace, strike a match, and voila! A roaring fire in no time.

But the best part? These fire lighters are easy to store and take up very little space. So, whether you’re a camping enthusiast or just someone who likes to cozy up by the fireplace on a cold winter’s night, these natural fire lighters are a must-have.

In conclusion, I highly recommend these natural fire lighters to anyone looking for an easy, sustainable, and high-quality way to start a fire. And if you’re not convinced yet, just imagine the satisfaction of lighting a fire with a product that won’t harm the environment. Trust me, it’s worth it!

PS: Oh, and don’t worry about running out of matches, these bad boys will light up even if you strike a wet piece of spaghetti on them

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHave tried various so called Eco firelighters including ones which look similar but these are on a different level. I am genuinely impressed. At first very skeptical about lighting our wood/coal open fire but the reality is one of these is just as effective as one Zip individually wrapped firelighter PLUS these are less than half the price and there’s no plastic wrappers or petroleum fumes. Best firefighters ever. 2nd purchase. 1st box lasted a year. I will never buy other firefighters ever again. No residue, no smell, lasts ages, what more could you want. From cold to roaring in under 2 mins: light your fire lighter and put into the fire. Close burner door slightly to let the chimney warm up (stops your fire smoking out the room), don’t forget to open all vents, add kindling and shut door (leave 30 seconds), add your log (small is best to start but I went crazy for effect ), shut burner door, roaring in a minute. Don’t forget to shut your vents to save wood when the fire is really going (20 mins). Easy peasy.

Zilch to Roaring in under 2 mins

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThere is nothing more frustrating than trying to lite a fire and it constantly going out. I have really come to LOVE lighting the Fire in my living room on colder evenings, and so have been trying to FINE TUNE my approach and make the process easier.

This is a BIG Box of Firelighters, and although the first time I threw 4 or 5 in to get it started, you probably only really need 1 or 2, so this will last you a LONG time. They light INSTANTLY, there is no smell or much smoke as far as I could see, and burn for approx 10mins which is more than enough to get the fire started.

I am REALLY pleased with these, and will definitely be back for more when they run out!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI recently got a log burner and was issues with a few fire lighters that did the trick, but they soon ran out. I had a look on Amazon with a view to pricing. These seemed to offer the biggest bang for their buck, including 200 individual lighters. It all came in a neatly packaged box, and when I opened it was a little taken aback by the size of them. They were around 50% smaller than the ones I’d started with, so I was a little concerned that they would not have the same impact. This was quickly dispelled when I used them. One is enough to get kindling going and therefore they are perfect in their job as fire starters . Happy to buy again when the time arises.

The sizes of the lighters in the box vary, with some half the size of less of others. Unfortunately there was also a lot of wastage in the box as the strands of the lighters very easily break off and must have done so in transit.

However, they do burn very well – even single small ones will get a good fire going using a top-down lighting approach in the wood burner. They burn for a long time and do not give off any smell, which is great.

There are over 200 of these and you can get away with only using one per fire, given the heat they give out and the duration they stay lit. These are ideal for my Masterbuilt Gravity 800 BBQ. They are smaller than the last lighters I bought from another company. They fit into the lighting chamber will a little forced push. Cheaper option than the square Masterbuilt lighters. Great burn time and only one needed in my bbq.

These would be ideal for any other bbq as well. If you have bought good quality charcoal why wouldn’t you want to use a natural lighter.

Have never tried these before, but wanted something more eco-friendly. When they arrived, I saw that the sizes varied with some considerably larger than others. So, for my first fire, I tried lighting one without a paper layer, just kindling and logs, and the smallest Ecowood Firelighter I could find (all on it’s own).
What a mighty performance from the little chap! Easy to light, no smell, burned for ages, and with a good size flame.
Started that fire with no problem!
I have every confidence in recommending these firelighters, and no concerns about the variation in sizes as noted by other reviewers.

I have been using Flamers fire lighters for my various BBQs for many years but when my current box of them came close to empty I was just going to order another box of 200. I then noticed this product that was cheaper for the same number of fire lighters and had many more positive reviews so I decided to give them a go. Have just lite my first BBQ of 2022 using them (with the aid of a BBQ chimney) and I must say that they seem to burn hotter than the Flamers and start the charcoal quicker.

I love these fire lighters. Why didn’t we have these when we were kids? Oh no, it was all huge toxic blocks of white stuff which shattered when you tried to segregate the bricks from each other.

These are a breeze to use. Are made of wood and are, well, just more wholesome overall. One will light the fire but I usually bung 2 in for good measure.

There are loads in the box. I’ve bagged them up and stuck them in a cupboard as didn’t have room for another box in the house. Will buy them again in 2 years as what I have will last till then. Roll on Christmas!

    Hope this review helped you.

They are very efficient, no odour and more importantly contain no toxic chemicals like the bog standard lighters you would find at the store or garage forecourt.
Super easy to use, I always use them with our log burner, a few sticks of kindling and dry seasoned wood-Instant fire!
Wouldn’t use any other lighters again, and every now and then they run a reduced price deal so even better!

    Brilliant!

  77. Iva14Ruyuedm says:

These are brilliant, there is no other description for them.
We have a multi-fuel stove (a fantastic Clearview) it is used extensively across the winter.
We came across these a few years ago and while I was sceptical I decided to try them out as I really did not like normal firelighters.

These don’t have that unpleasant chemical smell and are so easy to light.
Additionally they burn long enough to get either your kindling or small logs going properly with a normal level of air feed.
Considering you only need 2 or at most 3 to get the fire going, a box of these lasts a good long while.

Cost wise, compared to the bags you can buy in your local supermarket, they are way cheaper and pretty much the same thing.

In short, if you have a stove, or even a BBQ then you will want to try these out.

Overall I’m happy with this product, used very quickly and easily to light open fires, have tested its other potential uses too.

As for burn time, I’ve tested a few just to see, 10mins is a massive exaggeration, even the largest and fattest one only burnt for 6mins, so depending on what your use is just beware you won’t get near what’s stated.

Odourless, hmmmm don’t think so, thick black smoke that stinks is more to the truth, best used in an open space, I tested using on a Bushcraft stove as its primary fuel source, there is a lot of smell and mess tins or any other cooking item will get covered in real
    Thick black soot.

I like them and have good use for them simply for throwing a very quick fire together while out camping, burns strong enough to start a fire from kindling, so do exactly what I require.

Only reason I’ve given lower rating is simply because description does not match actual product in the sense of odourless and burn time, which is false advertising

Eco, burn really well and have lasted me some time. Last ordered almost a year ago. They look small, but do the job perfectly. Every now and again (depending on wood in and set up within fireplace) I may have to use a second lighter to help start it, but I’d say these are perfect.
Some people are saying they vary in size. They may do ever so slightly, with an odd one smaller / bigger than average, but no-one should expect these to all be perfectly the same size. That’s first world problems in a nutshell.
The price even at 20 is good. Better price and quality than supermarket one’s, and please remember people that the sellers have to make a profit. If they don’t make a profit, they won’t be able to continue selling. I got it this time at 17.50 which I’m happy with. If it’s on sale for less, it’s a privilege, not an expectation.

I read the raving reviews for these and was pretty sceptical BUT wanting to find a more eco-friendly option which didn’t smell awful like traditional firelighters I decided to risk purchasing one box to try.
The box arrived promptly and again I was sceptical – considering there were 200 lighters the box was smaller than I expected and on opening and seeing the lighters themselves I was a bit surprised how small the lighters are.
    BUT
So glad I did order them – they are fantastic – we only use 1 per fire – with some kindling with bigger wood on top in our woodburner and it has lit first time every time. Very impressive. No smell and easy to store a small bundle of them in our kindle bucket by the fire. 🙂

I only bought these because Waitrose ran out of the usual organic firelighters that I normally buy. I was sceptical that they would be worth the purchase. I now freely admit that I was wrong in my scepticism. I now believe that world of people who make fires, especially those with log burners is divided into two categories. Those who have discovered these amazing fire lighters (and wouldn’t use anything else) and those who have yet to discover them.

Awesome – they make lighting a fire so much easier than any other technique.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPROS: No fuss utterly reliable fire starter, once the bale is lit your charcoal WILL go, no going back to a BBQ that didn’t take. Light readily with a regular gas lighter. No chemicals so they don’t impart any flavour into what’s being cooked or crucially the ceramics of your kamado if you’re using say a Big Green Egg. They’re economical in use as a single bale will light a mound of lumpwood. Used in an Uni pizza oven with slightly damp pellets and still cooking within 15 minutes. Gave a handful to friends for their log burner and they’re just as effective and reliable when lighting wood.

CONS: expect about 10% waste by volume in the box. This isn’t a complaint, as with a bit of coaxing all of the wax covered loose strands that have come off the bales will still work, but they tend to be less reliable than the bales in terms of a guaranteed fire.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI recently took delivery of these fire lighters. I have for many years relied on chemical firelighters which to be fair, other than one bum batch, have proved to be very successful. I have been using the wrapped version which cost more money to combat the smell.
I was, to be honest, rather dubious about these firelighters but I can honestly say that I have been very surprised how good they have been. They are easier to light, first time is the usual performance and they stay alight. I pride myself on lighting my open fire with just one stick of kindling and so far I have not had a failure.
The 200 of these firelighters will last me all the way through to March, the finish of firing season I just hope that they will be in just as good a condition when I start lighting fires again in late autumn 2021.
They definitely deserve all the excellent reviews already posted on this site.

I was a bit dubious about these but the reviews were so good that I gave them a try. And the reviews are right – they are excellent. They smell pleasant and they’re eco, but most importantly they work. I use them for our log burner, in place of my usual kerosene firelighters.

As a few previous reviews have said, they are unequally sized, with some little bundles slimmer than others. I’ve I’d used either one big or two smaller ones, and they have reliably got the fire going with no trouble. They don’t look as if they would be this effective – I am really impressed and will be buying these again.

When we first got a fire in the house, lighting it was a bit of a minor challenge. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t. Sometimes I used chemical firelighters and, while they worked, the smell wasn’t great.

These wax/straw firelighters are really excellent. They don’t smell, at all. More importantly, though, they work, every single time. I don’t think I’ve had an instance of them not working. Simply put the wood down, some kindling on top, these on top of the kindling, and piece of wood the top it off, and light. Couldn’t be easier. I use 2-3 for each fire in my log burner, though I suspect 2 would be enough.

    Very much recommended.

    Absolutely love these.
This picture was taken 3 mins after ignition.
I used it this evening to light my log burner. Usually I love firelighters but I tend to use half or a quarter, build a teepee of kindling ontop of two logs and within half an hour my logs have caught and burn all night. It’s an art.
I read the reviews and instructions and chuckled to myself when I read reviews saying they used 3 or 4.
I built my fire the same as normal. Two logs on the bottom, the new natural firelighter in the middle and built a teepee of twigs/kindling up around it. Now, I’d only got 5 twigs left oops. And still, it caught in a few seconds, and then within mins the logs had caught fire. The balls of wood are firm and when up close smell like wax. Beautiful. It burned for around 10 mins, plenty of time to build heat for logs to catch.
I purchased these at 14 for 200. That’s 200 fires for 7p a fire. If I bought my usual firelighters from Tesco right now, 2.70for 30, that’s 9p per fire, lots of chemicals and plastic and paper packaging.
These arrived in a box. That’s it. A box that I can reuse and or recycle.

    Highly recommend.

    Amazingly easy and eco friendly

Forget liquid accelerants, chemical block firelighters or even quick light charcoal. Do yourself and your food you’re about to grill a favour. Use these natural firelighters, which DO NOT taint your charcoal and your food with a chemical smell or taste.

I use these in conjunction with a starter chimney and have the charcoal white within 15mins.

I previously bought a small bag of similar from the local supermarket for approx 4. It contained about 20 firelighters. Whereas this box you get 200! Amazing value.

    Thank you.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from these as I’ve tried a few natural firelighters before that have been pretty poor – but so far these have been great. I’m using them to light my Ooni pizza oven and they work brilliantly. They light really easily – just wave a match over them – they stay lit and burn hot, igniting the wood pellets in just a few minutes. There are no nasty chemicals which is always a plus when using them for cooking.

There’s no plastic in the packaging just a cardboard box packed to the gills with firelighters.

Next task is to try them in the log burner when the weather permits.

These fire lighters are truly great. I bought the smaller box first, which has lasted for a year of barbecuing and Pizza baking.

Really easy to use and get my charcoal lit very easily; I do use a Webber charcoal lighting chimney which in itself makes the job a breeze. I pop 3 of these lighters onto the grill and place the chimney on t bet easily and within minutes, the coals are nicely lit. Might be able to get away with just one or two for lighting, but I’ve Done it this way for so long, is habit now.

Similarly, when lighting loud for the pizza oven, it’s been a breeze; so much more effective to use 2-3 of these than rolled up paper and pine cones.

They leave no after smell and are simple, clean and effective to use. Wish I’d found them years ago. Miles better than traditional spirit based fire lighters.

Having used similar products in the past to light my wood burner, I generally needed 4/5 to get the fire started.
When I received these I built the fire as usual and lit it – my god – it was like someone had thrown petrol on the fire. It soon died down, at which point I read the instructions, it does say one or two and it really means it.
They are brilliant firelighters, very efficient and long lasting and they have not failed to get one fire started.
    Brilliant buy!

Our ECO firefighters arrived with next day delivery, just over the 200 in the box , a little smaller than we are use too and because my husband wants the wood burner fire roaring away quickly So he does use 2 of them !!
but if he were patient really 1 would work 😉
I normally purchase our wood shaving firelighters from B&M for less then 2 per bag , not sure on amount in the bag but looks a good bag full & a good Twice the size of these ECO ones , I would purchase these agin if B&M were out of stock .
Definitely recommend these has 200+ would last for a good amount of fires especially if my husband was not the one lighting your fire 🙂

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBeen buying a similar product from our local log man and he normally charges 5 for a bag of 50 with mediocre success.
While this type of lighter is effective, it often fills our lounge with acrid smoke resulting in us opening the windows and doors and defeating the objective of heating the room.
But not with these little beauties .. great instant lighting ( I usually use 3 to get the fire raging quickly) and a good handful of kindling ! But at last a fire lighter with no chemical smoke needing you evacuate all children and small animals ! Thank you ! Will definitely buy agai

Great value : no excess chemical smoke 😊

Bought these to assist in lighting a stove fire. These are simply great, they light so quickly. Before you know it you have a
lovely fire. May I add also these are totally natural and there is no nasty toxic scent. So perfect to use in a household with
children, pets or anyone sensitive to abrasive smelling products. Thankyou for marketing such a product that is safe for
the environment aswell. A storage container for long term use to buy would be very useful.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThese firelighters are wonderful. My husband had been buying traditional branded firelighters to use on our woodburner, upgrading to individually wrapped ones where you burn the wrapper too in the last couple of years. These are so much better. There are no horrible chemicals left on your hands. No unpleasant, pungent aroma. A big box works out significantly cheaper than the same number of traditional firelighters. There’s no faffing about remembering to pick up a box in the supermarket, no nasty plastics, no concerning chemicals… and they light really easily. A single box contains more than enough firelighters to start fires in both our wood burner and barbecue hut for months.

These are by some way the easiest firelighters we have ever used: they ‘take’ easily, and burn well but for a nice, long time. After a couple of months’ use, we have not yet had a fire fail to ‘take’ when starting it with these. Such a good product.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersOne of the worst parts in my opinion when starting a campfire is getting enough kindling to together to last the night. You would rather talk and drink. With these I can pack 15-20 in my bag, and you don’t need to gather a lot of kindling. One small kindling run will get all you need for a night of fun. Build a teepee with your gathered kindling and sandwhich two of these into the centre. Take a third and wedge it on a sharp stick. It lights really easily and you can then use it to light the ones inside the teepee.

The wax coating while being good for an easy light, it also helps in the typical damp uk conditions. I have woken up and realised we used them ‘all’ last night meaning the fire will be a chore. But you’ll find a discarded one of these randomly that was left outside in the damp/rain. Split a couple branches and you’ve got a breakfast fire.

I would estimate one purchase of the 200 box will last 20 camp trips easily. For 20 I think they are more than worth it, 2 extra per trip for quick fires. Brilliant.

P.S. tidy up after you wild camp. If you dig a hole for your campfire it’s easy to hide it afterwards.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI take reviews with a pinch of salt, but I simply couldn’t ignore the reviews for these fire starters and had to buy a pack. We tried them last night for the first time on our garden log burner and fire pit and my god, the reviews came through – these are amazing! They instantly catch fire and help your fire going. I can’t believe I didn’t see or try these before. Cannot recommend them enough!

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThese firelighters were a little on the smaller side to what I’m used to, but do a good job. They’re quite tightly packed, so take a bit of time to light and get going (compared to looser wood wool ones), but once lit do exactly what’s needed. I find that I maybe use 3 in place of the 2 I would normally use to light the fire, but that’s not a big issue as they’re great value for money in the first place. Over all a good product and I would definitely recommend.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersA great alternative to traditional fire lights. Easy to light with no nasty smell. They last a reasonable amount of time although perhaps not as strong as some chemical firelighters. Using 2 or 3 per fire . Overall a nice little product but packaging was awful . Expected them to have an internal box as well as external packaging. It’s just one cardboard box. Great for environment but not so good when you rip the box open to find out there was no inner box.

    Would buy agai

Golden Review Award: 58 From Our UsersHonestly – they are fantastic! We have a log burner, which they are perfect for. Normally it’s a nightmare getting it started. Following the other reviews which I read, I bought these. Let’s just say… I would buy them again and again and again. We don’t have to mess about with kindling… we use one of these and then put the logs above or on either side of it. It’s small, neat, compact and totally odour free. It holds its flame for quite sometime. Cannot fault it. Came in a well packaged sturdy cardboard box. Would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersWas a little sceptical about the effectiveness of the firelighters however, not only are they quick to light they can be pulled apart to cover a larger area. I will be purchasing these again next time and recommend these to anyone using an open fire, wood burner etc. One thing to note is that you will receive 200 fire starters loose in a box, so have a container or bag to hand to make storage easier.
