We have fitted these to all 8 radiators in the house using our existing (quite old) Netatmo thermostat.

The room by room programming is initially complicated but ok once you get used to it – you have to set temperatures for specific names day periods for each room, then you set the time that the period applies for each day. So we have a “working from home” setting which heats the study but not the living room, and applies M-F for example. This is much easier when you work it out and I’d recommend creating custom settings to help you remember what you were trying to do.

The rest of the physical installation was well explained and straightforward.

Only slight criticism but not aimed at the product necessarily-I’m not sure it has saved on the heating bills; as it’s always got the heating on trying to reach our ‘perfect’ balance – whereas in the past the whole system simply turned on and off based on how frugal we were on the main thermostat.

So we have spent the past months constantly tweaking the temperatures down trying to have the heating on less!

Note that you can set it so the valves cannot request to turn the boiler on – which would stop the above and this is the default mode – but in this default mode, you’re essentially paying for a very expensive upgrade to your basic thermostatic valve and all it can do better is show you a digital temperature on your phone!
Instead we have it set where the valve can request the heating turn on if a room falls below temperature.

So the valves themselves are fine but the setup is poor. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve had to close the app while setting the valves and their hub up. Once it’s all up and running it’s fine but getting there is a bit of a mess to be honest.

I bought four of these from Amazon and have added seven more from an ebay purchase. They are not too difficult to set up, and once you have being able to micro manage the tempreture in the house has proved beneficial.
I’ve found that keeping rooms aligned on temp means you dont need the overall temp high to feel warm. So we are now able to run about 1-2 degrees lower at the main thermostat.
Netatmo also have the mode where the radiator thermostat can call the boiler to get heat (or just work in the traditional way). This is handy for us as we have one bedroom that needs more input, so I’ve been able to balance things better.
At the moment (1 month running) on a cold day where my energy cost was 22, I am seeing no more than 18 so this has saved money. Mind you that will take a few years to break even so the balance is the benefit of control.

It was a cinch to install. The video installation guide from Netatmo, made it super easy. It was very easy to set up. I had to unstick one of my existing radiator valves to get rid of the “calibration failed” message. So far so good except that the heating hasn’t been on much with the mild weather. One gripe is that the batteries they supplied for one of the valves ran out after 5 days. Overall though I like the system.
Update: I have now installed another two valves. Both ran great until I ran into the battery power problem the which has been mentioned elsewhere. I removed the valve and moved the actual valve on the radiator up and down a few times to make sure it moved freely. I reinserted the same batteries that were meant to be flat according to the system and all is now working well again with reading showing full batteries. If it happens again I will return the unit for a replacement. I already replaced one.

Another solid product from Netatmo. Having been a fan of their weather stations etc for a number of years, I decided to go full scale into the smart home with the thermostat and radiator valves. Very easy for a novice DIYer and Basic techie to install and set up. My only criticism is that the supplied batteries for the radiator valves had either leaked or were drained on 4 of 7 valves purchased.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWith energy prices rising 54% in April 2022 I decided to upgrade my TRVs to be able to safeguard against the cost of living. I purchased a Netatmo Starter Kit (Hub and 2 TRVs) in addition to 2 stand alone TRVs for my 2 bedroom house. I already had a Nest Thermostat and I was able to group the Nest and Netatmo together using Samsung SmartThings.

Although we’re now heading in to the Summer months where the heating will be off, in the short time using the TRVs alongside SmartThings routines, I have noticed an average of 40% reduction in gas bills. This reduction is in comparison to the same period last year, however we did have unseasonally cold weather last week where the heating remained on.

As I said, the heating is off now and will remain that way until Winter, so only time will tell if this purchase will recoup its cost.

Installation was very easy. So easy, I thought I must have made a mistake. Remove the old TRV, find the correct size threads, screw on the Netatmo TRV, insert batteries, pair using the app, calibrate, set ideal temperature (21 for living room, 18 for bedrooms), job done. The Netatmo TRVs are noisy, but thankfully I’m a “set it and forget it” kind of guy.

Would I recommend? Yes. However Amazon didn’t have the Starter Kit in stock so I ordered from elsewhere and the Hub came only with a 2 pin European plug. Not a major issue as I had an adaptor, but something to bear in mind if buying from a Third Party seller.

Bought to replace a four year old one that self destructed. Netatmo is a great system but expensive and occasionally obtuse. The valve works as expected with my thermostat and other valves. Alexa integration is excellent and these help me keep my fuel bills down. Not sure why one is 55 though when other brands have similar for half tha

Just check you can get a reliable signal to the thermostat. The radiator i fitted it to was the other end of the house and i had to re-position the thermostat to get a reliable signal. Really cool high it demands the boiler turns on when its it not hot enough.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThe Netatmo valve became defective after 13 months, there seems to be a common issue with the unit not recognising new fully charged batteries. As purchased in Europe the unit has a 2 year warranty, Netatmo have agreed to replace the defective unit.

The valve has been very useful in improving heating on the ground floor of a town house. I allowed the valve to control heating for the whole house and used normal thermo valves elsewhere in the building. The valve can have its own heating schedule and temperatures. The app will show graphs for the main Netatmo unit and the valve.

Be careful with fitting the valve, make sure existing radiator connection is clean, use PTFE tape, only fit the valve hand tight, make sure the existing valve on the radiator moves up and down freely. Don’t use the valve to change temperature by manual operation this is most likely to damage the splines on the Netatmo valve, only use 1.5 volt batteries don’t use rechargeable batteries.

Had some difficulty getting the valve to communicate with the relay etc. but got there eventually. initially, I thought that the wifi module was not going to be strong enough, but I think it is how the device sets itself up???
Additional info: I have four now and they work well, but you have to work out what fittings are correct, especially if you have “no name” valves. Anyhow all worked out ok.
Update: Have now installed the fifth valve. Even if you get the correct adapter, you can sometimes fail to fit it correctly and then the valve display an out of battery power error. I don’t know if the adapters could be made out of metal, as I have found that the plastic can cross-thread if you don’t fit it correctly?
I will review the rating when I get over a year in situ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total crap plastic rings. They degrade with time and Netatmo won’t replace.

These are great devices – a doddle to fit and easy to use, and they have made a big difference to the comfort of my house, enabling me to direct the heat to the rooms that really need it at the times I want it. I have no hesitation in recommending them for installation in a modern house.

That said, I live in an old house with some very thick brick walls, and this shows up what appears to be a weakness in the Netatmo system in relation to older (and possibly also to larger) properties. All the devices – thermostat and radiator valves – communicate directly with the Relay unit, which contains the “smarts” of the system, using a (non-wifi) private wireless network. For the most part this works perfectly. However, in my house the location of one radiator means that the signal between it and the relay must travel at a very shallow angle through a 2′ thick brick wall, which so attenuates the signal that the valve intermittently (and apparently randomly) disconnects from the Relay – sometimes for hours at a time. There seems to be no way to overcome this limitation: Netatmo valves do not seem to cooperate with one another in forwarding signals, and unlike some other manufacturers Netatmo do not have the facility to add any form of signal extender device. The Netatmo advice for such situations is to relocate either the radiator valve or the Relay, but as the one is attached to my home’s plumbing, and the other is permanently wired to the boiler, this advice is actually pretty unhelpful! I am currently awaiting a response from Netatmo to my message about this, but meanwhile I would suggest that if you have an older house then you are suitably circumspect.

Easy to use and incorporate in a smart home or use via the app. Only problem is that the WiFi signal is a bit hit and miss even with a router in the same room.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirstly I will say I do not normally write reviews but this product deserves it. The system I fitted these to is an old oil fired open system. It was already controlled by a Netatmo thermostat that I had installed several years ago along with 3 electronic radiator thermostats with the remaining radiators on standard wax based thermostatic valves. The system worked adequately and the ability to control the heating via the internet was a great advantage. However it wasn’t perfect. The problem I had was that the thermostat was in the hallway, as in many homes, with an open kitchen which meant whenever the oven, cooker or tumble dryer was switched on the thermostat would have a false reading, the hall was warm but the rest of the house wasn’t.

As some of the old electronic valves had started to fail I decided to replace them with the Netatmo valves as they would be part of the same system and could be controlled from the same app as the thermostat, which I couldn’t do before. What I didn’t realise what that the valves not only opened and closed the valve when the room needs heat but they can also “call” for heat and turn the boiler on, something the marketing blurb did not make clear. On first thought this may not seem important but it cured my open plan kitchen problem instantly, it no longer matters that the hall is warm as other rooms can call for heat as it is needed. It also means that the hall isn’t kept warm just so the lounge has heat, something I suspect anyone with a central thermostat will have experienced. It has also cured a problem of heating bedrooms, most people want to warm bedrooms at a time when you have settle down in the lounge for the evening. The lounge is nice and warm, the hall is already warm and you don’t need much “top up” to keep them comfortable but the opposite is true for the bedrooms. With these valves though the bedrooms are controlling the boiler so are comfortable for when you retire. In effect it is like having a zoned heating system with control in each room without ripping out and replacing the entire heating system.

Now everything has positives and negatives. On the down side is the strength of the radio signal (not your Wi-Fi) mine is a 1960’s home with concrete block walls not wooden framed so some experimentation was needed to find a good location for the relay. Firmware updates seem to happen at any time of day or night, not something you want in the middle of the night if you are a light sleeper. The ability to delay updates to a certain time would be of benefit. You also need to have existing valves that are in good condition, I had several that were a little sticky. This seemed to cause a bigger drain on the batteries and the unit asked for them to be replaced. Changing the valve bodies, a simple enough job to do, cured the problem but it is something to be aware of.

Overall I wholeheartedly recommend these electronic valve heads, they are simple to install and use, look great and have already started to reduce my oil consumption which will result in a cost saving. However for me the greater control and resulting balance of comfort and convenience is far more important.

I already own a Netatmo smart thermostat and brought these to add more control to our heating system, I have these on multiple radiators and it allows a lot more flexibility to the heating than just using TRV’s, bedrooms only warm up on evening/morning and stay off during the day, the home office is warm during our working hours and stays off on the weekend. While they are a bit expensive I can see a saving being made over a couple of years by more efficient use of the heating

5.0 out of 5 stars A great product to add to your smart home

I had trouble contacting Netatmo so gave it a ‘bad’ review – see below. HOWEVER I have now managed to get through to them and it was something wrong with my PC. I still don’t know what, but the site mysteriously came back. Nobody else has reported a problem, so I am baffled.

“This company may have gone belly-up. I love it and have had their thermostat working well for 5 years. But I now want to contact them to report that I cannot get them on line anymore and I am unable to get to them. The only contact I have for them is their support team but it is all on-line. The emails I have from them are all ‘do not reply to this address but contact us via the contact team’. All their on-line links timeout. What do I do? I have been trying for at least a week, so it is not a temporary computer problem at their end. Help, if anyone from Legrand reads this!”

The components all have a good quality feel about them. I’m very sceptical of their temperature readings though. I’m sure they show temperatures lower than they actually are. Also doesn’t help that they are attached to my radiators at the bottom so are effectively showing the temperature at floor level. The temperature can be re-calibrated and inaccuracies accounted for by manually adjusting the temperature permanently in the software if you believe it is wrong. The software on the iPhone is excellent. has great features to daily set up and replicate a schedule. The main problem seems to be support…there is none. There is no phone number. the only way to contact them is via their extensive help website but after waiting a week I had not had any replies.

I purchased the Netatmo thermostat over a year ago. It was very easy to swap the old style thermostat to the Netatmo one. I needed to check which wires were the switch wires and which were the “live” wires (that I discarded safely as they were not needed).
Once done, I connected the relay to the power source and using the mobile app, had the system up and running within probably 10 minutes. This was much easier to achieve than I expected.

Recently I wanted to increase my system to include smart radiator valves. I bought 2 Netatmo Additional Smart Radiator Valves. All I had to do was to unscrew the old thermostatic radiator valve, select the correct adapter supplied with the Smart Valve and screw it all together. Back in the app, simply add the 2 new valves and that was all that was needed. I chose to modify the schedules and temperatures to my comfort but this is optional as their initial one is probably about very close for most people.

A note of caution, make sure you think about how many radiators and the positions of the thermostat when deciding how many to buy as, if you have a house like mine, it hasn’t been designed with the current standards and thinking so it made it harder to work out which radiators benefit from Smart Valves.

The whole of the Netatmo system integrates perfectly with Google Home, not just Alexia. I can say “set the bedroom temperature to 21 degrees” and it will set a manual override for 3 hours to 21 degrees C.

Hopefully this will continue to save me money while keeping the rooms comfortable. In this very cold weather, my house is kept at a nice comfortable temperature day and night.

A well designed, practical product. It was easy to fit (not that TRVs are hard to install) and connect to the Netatmo Thermostat (via the iPhone app). I’ve had no problems to date and the heating control I required for different rooms has been realised. If you want to have different heat profiles / different heating schedules across multiple rooms then I suggest you look into these – they’re a chunk of cash yes, but work as intended.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI have had 7 of these for several winter months and they work very well. That said, I have had to go through a learning curve to get the best out of them. I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to basic thermostats now though. Obviously, they work much better if you keep ‘temperature controlled’ room doors closed but the ability to warm the house ahead of a ‘difficult to control’ return home time makes them invaluable to us. Individual room temperatures can be set very finely and never overheated. Be patient – they will work and work well once you’re on top of them.

If you’re a light sleeper, you will hear them for half a second or so when the valve comes on in the morning (they are motorised and the valve working parts rotate) but I don’t see that as a problem.

I use a stand-alone thermometer to crosscheck the radiator thermostat temperature reading and ‘fine tune’ the radiator temperature output.

I installed Valves alongside the Thermostat which has been working very well for over 3 years.

The installation is child’s play and the temperature control seems efficient. Time will tell, but I trust the brand as they have good longterm product aftercare when required (with regular updates).

The new application is quite easy to set up taking every little detail into account.

It’s a good-looking, high quality product, which only adds to the attraction.
