    Poor suppo
Only purchased to replace original Netatmo due to batteries only lasting around 2 weeks just as came out of warranty no support from Netatmo so this was a quick fix Netatmo responded after 5 weeks could send back to France for repair that was not an option in freezing weather. Well done Amazon for a quick delivery.

Excellent once it has been through the learning
Of course I installed it just before I went away for a long period and didn’t realise it had set the thermostat location to where I installed the software (or updated it or something) . This messed it up but one I was home I was able to set it right.

Excellent smart thermostat but don't use the supplied batteries
This is perfect for me. The old mechanical thermostat was behind a bookcase. But being able to control this thermostat from the app or from Alexa is just what I needed.

It’s well made and the app works well.

It misses out on a 5th star for a couple of minor issues. The included batteries are the cheapest of the cheap and mine started leaking after only a couple of months. Luckily this caused a rapid voltage drop and I got a battery expired warning from the app/cloud; so I was able to get the batteries out before the liquids did any damage.

The Alexa interface doesn’t allow half degrees but I imagine that’s Amazon’s fault and not Netatmo’s.

Netatmo offer technical support on the old thermostat’s wiring but they couldn’t help with a very common UK thermostat (Drayton)

    Great when its works
I’ve had this foe a few years now and over time I’ve added more netatmo stuff to the setup including the valves in 4 of the radiators.
I’ll say that when this works it’s amazing and has saved me about 30% of my gas usage.

I wanted to rate it 5 stars but I’ve had to drop a star for a few outages its had over the years.
Over the last week, it has seen 2 cloud outages one lasting almost 6 hours and at this time they do not work. In the middle of freezing temperatures, this is now what you need.

Other then that they are great little products.

Simple to set up and use
Another solid product from Netatmo. Having been a fan of their weather stations etc for a number of years, I decided to go full scale into the smart home with the thermostat and radiator valves. Very easy for a novice DIYer and Basic techie to install and set up. My only criticism is that the supplied batteries for the radiator valves had either leaked or were drained on 4 of 7 valves purchased.

    Very nice
Good smart thermostat – I really like the temperature graph on the app, the learning algorithm is great as the temp is very steady now which saves money and I managed to integrate with Alexa too.

It’s a fun easy project to install if you are a little bit techie but maybe not for a novice.
It’s worth noting that there are various netatmo accessories including range extender relays and smart radiator valves which I do not have, I just got the basic thermostat kit.

The box includes the temp thermometer ‘remote’ clicker display box that picks up the temp in whatever room you place it and sends signals to the thermostat. It’s battery powered and can be screwed to a wall or kept mobile, I liked it as a mobile box. (I assume you get multiples of these if you want individual room control with the radiator valves but this is more expensive) I didn’t use the colour stickers…

The actual smart thermostat box has options of adapters – a plug which I believe is for using it as a range extender relay (I did not use this except to test connection) and a wiring harness to connect direct to the boiler.

The wiring connection was obvious from the diagram in the manual – 4 wires connect to 4 wires, 2 are power supply live and nuetral, two are the thermostat signal wire and for this polarity doesn’t matter. BUT there is nothing in the kit to connect the wires! Initially I twisted them together and duct taped to test, but I had to solder them afterward. My boiler has it’s own power switch to isolate power while I did this so I didn’t have to turn power off at the fuse box but yours might be different.

Once powered and permanently wired, the thermostat box was discoverable with the app, connected to my wifi and then I followed the steps and everything connected nicely. I added my wife on guest account so she can control temp too.
There is a downloadable ‘skill’ for alexa which allows voice control of the temperature which I set up aswell.
Took a little thinking but managed it and glad I bought it. Soldering the wires was the hardest part for me, a junction box would have been better, otherwise great!

    Thumbs up!

Easy to install either wired or wireless. Elegant. It just works
I bought this product as it does not require a subscription and offers HomeKit integration. I found it easy to install and was pleased that all components for either a wired or wireless installation are included. After installing it wired to replace an old Honeywell I discovered that the old thermostat was on the drywall immediately in front of the boiler chimney so the regulation was terrible. I then converted it to wireless and placed it in the main room. We now enjoy a stable well regulated temperature. This is a wonderful discrete and elegant product, with an always-on display that can be manually adjusted as well as voice-controlled or app controlled. Although you don’t need the NetAtmo app at all (you can just use HomeKit on it’s own) it does have some good features.
I’m amazed to learn that this product has been around for almost a decade unchanged – a great design. In future, when we upgrade our old boiler to a modern one, we’ll probably need the latest version (“Smart Modulating Thermostat”) which supports modern boiler control.

    Check the batteries!
Have not used it with Alexa, so cannot really comment on that.
Works ok from Iphone and Ipad.
One thing to watch though, it was a bit touch and go to work, but found the supplied batteries were quite low, 1.2 Volt per cell.
Put new batteries in and no problems.

Neighbour bought one and asked me to fit it for him, same problem, low voltage batteries.
Should be reading 1.6 volt each cell if good batteries!
    Did not need technical support.

Early days but good so far. Getting used to it and have added another smart valve.
Taking a gamble, but hope that this thermostat continues to perform well. The trouble with computer tech is that it can play up. If this continues to be as stable as it is, then I will improve my review. The general comfort level in my house is more consistant than my very old programmable thermostat. Good.

    Fantastic Thermosta
Have had this thermostat for sometime now & it works great. The app is good & it’s easy to make changes, even when away from home. The Web login is good and gives some idea of how your homes heating is working & how long the boiler’s actually on for. The Web page also gives monthly reports on how well you compare to each month & to neighbourhood homes. Tech support were really good when we changed our boiler & needed to figure out how to wire it in. Thermostat works well with Alexa to, just enable the Netatmo skill & ask Alexa to change the temperature & away you go. Altogether I think this is a good looking & smart piece of kit.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIt just works
Having researched all of the smart thermostats and valves that can connect to HomeKit it appears that Netatmo is the only system that doesn’t try to charge you monthly subscriptions for “additional” features. You buy the kit, install it, and that’s it. Before purchasing I sent a message to their technical team to ask a pre-scales question and received a response answering my question in full within 1 business day. Looking good. A product that gets good reviews, no extra monthly charges, technical support that seem to be on the ball. So I proceeded with a purchase of a thermostat and a single rad valve.

Installation of the thermostat is a piece of cake. No more complicated than swapping a light switch. The unit itself seems well made and has a good quality feel. It looks smart, but not overly fussy and the display is clear and simple to read. A very nice touch is that you can orient the thermostat in one of two ways and the unit detects which way is up to rotate the display automatically. I like that. Good design.

Setting up the hub is similarly a straightforward thing to do. Basically, just plug it in. Download the app, and you’re done for a basic setup. All in all it took less than 1 hour including a basic software setup which is painless.

I then installed the smart rad valve. Again, easy to do with clear instructions. It took just a few minutes to identify the correct adapter for my old thermostatic valve.

Here’s a tip: you’ll probably find that your old valves have seeped a little and there may be some limescale or other general crud around the pin of the valve. I scratched this away with a screwdriver, brushed off the debris and then checked the pin movement. It wasn’t completely stuck, but very stiff. A couple of squirts of WD40 and a bit of a gentle tap and the pin was free and moving nicely. If you don’t check for this you’ll find that your new smart valve might not be able to move the pin and open/close the actual valve.

The whole installation of the TRV took about 15 minutes including valve cleaning. But that was my first time. Subsequent installs have speeded up – about 5 minutes per go. I’ve been impressed enough to go ahead and purchase another 12 valves to equip all of the radiators in my house.

The system is very easy to use and setup and provides that rare thing: simplicity and yet the ability to create complex configurations if you need to. You can create multiple heating schedules, with different temperate bands for different time slots, and different temperatures for each room in a band. If you really want to. If not, let the built-in guide set it up for you and you’re done.

I have a 5-bedroomed house and work from home, so wanted to create a comprehensive setup, where some rooms are heated during the day, others not, all the rooms at night, but some, such as bedrooms, to lower temperatures. No problem. It can do all that.

HomeKit linkage is fine – it just works. Siri can do her thing and you can remote control temperature in each room without any difficulty.

The best feature in my option is the ability to have an individual radiator valve call for heat. That’s something a traditional setup cannot do. For example, during the working week I can configure the rest of the house to run at a lower heat, and keep just the office at a comfortable level. When the temperate on that radiator gets low, the valve can open, call for heat through the wireless system, and have the boiler turn on. The other valves will stay shut due to their programmed temperature. The result: you heat the room you want, and not the whole house.

That is the whole point of a smart system: fine grained control and accurate temperature setting. I have a smart meter and I’ve been comparing the gas usage from the heating system over the past few days. It’s getting colder outside, but I can already see savings, and the house feels like it has a more comfortable even temperature spread.

Like others have said – you need to let the system settle in. Firmware updates will need to be sent to each valve to give them all of the above features. It’s fully automatic, but it can take a day or two. Most of my valves updated overnight, but some took a little longer. Be patient.

All in all, for a setup with 14 valves and a thermostat it isn’t cheap. But it is good quality, it works very well, and it very much does seem to save money and distribute heat much more effectively. In todays energy conscious and environmentally sensitive times, this seems like a very good investment.

Works Great - Portable replacement for badly placed ancient honeywell 2-wire thermostat.
My original thermostat is an ancient honeywell brass coloured thing that is annoyingly placed in the hallway, one of the coldest places in my house, causing the heating to be on when it’s not needed raising the temps to unbearable levels in the rest of the home.

Its also up near the ceiling, meaning to adjust it requires a step ladder or guesswork at arms length. It’s really just a terrible position for ease of use.

The intended documented use of this thermostat seems to suggest you either:

    – connect it straight to a boiler. – giving you a mobile thermostat.
    – replace your old thermostat in-situ – giving you a fixed thermostat where your old one was.

Both of these are useless to me, but I persevered. Following the wiring back from the old thermostat to the wiring centre next to my programmer I wired in the relay module into the same connections the old thermostat used and the mains supply. Disconnecting the old one at the same time.

This then gave me a mobile thermostat unit, that communicates with the relay unit which acts like my old thermostat issuing the call for heat when required.

There is one down side. Due to the way my system is wired this now means I had to permanently set the heating side of my programmable controller to “On”.

This then enables the netatmo device to properly control the heat as and when required. My boiler isn’t permanently on, it only turns on as and when netatmo calls for heat so now netatmo basically performs the task of my programmable controller at least for the heating side, my hot water control is untouched as this netatmo device doesn’t support that.

So far (granted its summer so my heating isn’t exactly on properly) it’s been working great and as expected.

Installation is a doddle, but you may need to use a laptop to get it all set up!
I installed this to replace an existing wireless thermostat, which had consisted of a control box and wirelessly connected thermostat – units equivalent to the Netatmo’s relay and thermostat units. As my boiler is sited outside the house, there was already wiring in place providing connections to match those on the relay adaptor cable, which becomes merely an extension to the existing wiring. Connecting up the unit up for testing has been easy, though to make a tidy job of the final installation and hide the cables I am going to have to cut off and discard all but a short length of cable from the relay adaptor. It is a pity that the relay can’t be mounted on the UK patress (or backbox) that the original control unit was mounted on, as it would have made the installation easier and tidier.

Having connected the relay, and tested that it was working, I turned to the thermostat unit, inserted the batteries, and attached it to its back for use as a free-standing and portable item. Every thing worked exactly as is it should, but on turning back to the relay I saw the light was flashing, and it refused to return to a steady on or off, even after being power-cycled. At this point I assumed that the unit was faulty, but was interrupted by a phone call, and wen I returned about an hour later the problem, whatever it had been, seemed to have resolved itself. I therefore set up a Netatmo account, and tried to use it to setup the relay. However, my phone was permanently unable to find it.

Up to this point I had been following the instructions provided. As setup through the phone app had failed, I deployed Plan B – which login to the Netatmo website on my laptop, download and run the setup wizard app, and connect the relay to the laptop using the USB cable provided. The relay was instantly recognised, and the first thing to happen was a firmware update. It was then just a matter of selecting the wifi network to use, entering the network password and then entering the credentials for my new Netatmo account. Everything was now done, so I re-connected the relay to the relay adaptor, and let it to connect to the relay.

My next step, having demonstrated that everything was working, was to introduce the unit to HomeKit, via the Home app on my iPhone. This was easy, with the setup code displayed at the appropriate moment on the display of the thermostat. Again everything now seems to work perfectly, and if anything should go wrong I’ll amend this review to reflect it! I would just note here that whilst the relay is quite quick to respond to “on” signals from the thermostat, it takes significantly longer to respond to “off” signals. However, and the delay is typically <20secs this is not important, even if it may be worth noting.

So, this itemt is well-designed, apparently will-built, and easy to install and setup - with the proviso that you may need to wait for some time before the relay becomes available for configuration, and you may need to actually configure it using a laptop rather than the phone app. Those two little glitches aside I have found this to be a very simple and straightforward installation.

I was so please with this device that I subsequently installed a number of Netatmo thermostatic radiator valves, and it is here that I have found a decided weakness in the Netatmo system. All the devices - thermostat and radiator valves - communicate directly with the Relay unit, which contains the "smarts" of the system, using a non-wifi private wifeless network. For the most part this works perfectly. However, I live in an old house with thick walls, and the location of one radiator means that the signal between it and the relay must travel at a very shallow angle through a 2' thick brick wall, which so attenuates the signal that the valve intermittently (and apparently randomly) disconnects from the Relay - sometimes for hours at a time. There seems to be no way to overcome this limitation: Netatmo valves do not seem to cooperate with one another in forwarding signals, and unlike some other manufacturers Netatmo do not have the facility to add any form of signal extender device.

    Finally, I feel in control
After years of struggling with a non-smart wireless Drayton thermostat remote which nobody understood how to use, we bit the bullet and did some research into modern heating controls. I wanted a simple-to-use system with no ongoing subscription, native HomeKit integration, manual overrides for when the Internet is playing up and the option to expand our investment at a later date with extra controllers. In the end I chose Netatmo’s thermostat, which is definitely one of the better looking options on the market (a happy coincidence).

We managed to install the main hub without any problems at all – a straightforward replacement for the old Drayton – and it immediately interfaced with our Vaillant combi boiler as though they were childhood friends. The e-ink screen on the portable thermostat doesn’t drain the batteries fast and the actual thermostat hub by the boiler is wired in so there’s no tinkering required after the initial installation. There’s an option to screw the portable thermostat controller block to a wall but I quite like being able to carry it around, it’s attractive enough to sit by a clock and look like part of the decor. One of the quirks of the design is that you can customise the white gadgets with the provided coloured stickers (the stock art uses orange but you can go green, blue, yellow or leave it white if you prefer) in order to match your room. It’s a cute gimmick even though the actual colours are quite subtle.

A few weeks have passed since then and I haven’t been cold for a moment since – finally, I’m in control of our heating! The Netatmo app (also accessible via the website, conveniently) records everything in detail so you can track your boiler usage and get as familiar with your home’s heating demands as you want. If you don’t care, it’s just one click to make things warmer/colder. You can schedule each day’s healing independently and override the schedule with a temporary boost if you’re feeling particularly chilly. Apple’s HomeKit support is smooth and easy to set up. I was originally planning on using HomeKit on its own but the Netatmo app has stayed around for quick access to all of the heating logs and nerdy details. It’s a solid piece of software.

I was initially worried about support from reading other reviews but the one time I needed to contact Netatmo support via Twitter they were courteous and gave me a quick response in fluent English. The smart radiator valves (TRVs) you can optionally install to get finer control of your heating room-by-room come with a set of adapters which happened to be unsuitable for our radiators, and because of the daft post-Brexit UK VAT rules it was difficult to obtain the extra adapters we needed from the continent. No problem – Netatmo sorted me out and we’ve just ordered another batch of the valves to set up the rest of the house for smart heating. I’m satisfied that this was the best smart thermostat for my needs.

Easy to fit to existing heating system, paired with My Home on iOS first time. Temperature control is spot on. Haven’t needed tech support so can’t comment.

They make my life so much easie
I love this thermostat. Sure, it has a simplistic design and may not have all the bells and whistles of some of the more popular brands but I consider that to be a very good thing. These Netatmo thermostats epitomise the expression “less is more”.

I don’t consider myself to be a DIY expert by any means but installation of these is so simple I had mine up and running in 15-20 minutes. Unlike some of the other brand’ smart thermostats where you have to either be happy with fiddling with wires on your boiler and finding a location for their relay (or whatever they’re calling it), or call in a professional, if you have a simple 2-wire set-up like I do, these are super easy to install:

    1. Turn off the mains.
    2. Remove you old thermostat
    3. Connect the wires to the Netatmo thermostat
    4. Secure it on the wall with the plugs and screws
    5. Plug in the Netatmo relays
    6. Configure it via the app on your smartphone
    7. Wait a few minutes for the relay to connect to the thermostat
    8. Configure a schedule by following the prompts
    9. Optionally, play around with other settings in the app or HomeKit (if you’re using iOS)
    10. 9. Put your feet up and enjoy the warmth, a coffee and two shortbread biscuits… okay, fine, this is optional too.

Seriously though, as far as I’m concerned, smart homes should be as self-installable and self-configurable as possible, otherwise, it’s not so smart. Thank you Netatmo for making this installation thing so easy. I now have two up and running in my home.

Having the ability to control the house temperature throughout the week via the app, having tge app then learn from your heating profile and offer assistance and being able to do it remotely is fantastic. Admittedly I haven’t left the house in weeks but you get the idea.
Great product. Very happy. Installation is also not too tricky, with very clear online help.

Please do buy this excellent smart thermostat from Netatmo!
Excellent product, and great value for money. Full integration with Apple HomeKit. Although I did not install this myself, it took a gas engineer less than 30 minutes start to finish. Netatmo have readily become my go-to brand for easy-to-use smart home accessories, and as always this product exceeds my expectations for simplicity, reliability and effectiveness. I would certainly recommend this smart thermostat to any buyers considering purchasing one who have no previous experience using one. Although it is super easy to set up with one’s smartphone and works alongside a very intuitive Netatmo App (simultaneously with Apple’s own Home App), you don’t even really need a smart phone to use it, as the accompanying thermostat control can be placed anywhere near-by the boiler in your home.

    Perfect replacement wall stat.
I was looking for a smart thermostat as a direct replacement for my old, wired thermostat. My Wi-fi hub is on the other side of the hall. This is the perfect solution. Dead easy to install, looks great; I like the minimalist design. The app, which you control the heating schedules and temperature, is easy to use and really nicely designed. I like the fact that the temperature can also be easily adjusted on the wall unit aswell. Integration with Alexa is pretty good.

An excellent thermostat - easily replaces ancient mechanical thermosta
I had an old 3-wire thermostat that wasn’t functioning correctly (see photo of wiring). I replaced the thermostat by wiring the live and the boiler output to the Netatmo (no polarity) and insulating off the Neutral wire and tucking it back into the wall (since all it was used for was to power a small heater inside the old thermostat to increase its accuracy – it serves no role with the Netatmo).
Once the Netatmo thermostat was wired up and plugged in and the power turned back on, the e-paper display fired up and the sensors started acclimatising to the hallway.
Finally, I now know what actual temperature the hallway is at, and I can set a desired temperature accordingly. On the old mechanical thermostat, it would only turn the boiler on if it was set to a very high temperature.
The app is quite basic in terms of functionality, it has everything you would expect, but nothing more than the bare minimum. For example, there’s no obvious way to lock the temperature controls. The graphs are great, giving you a detailed view. You can easily set the temperature from anywhere that you are.
A fantastic product, it’s saving me a fortune because it works, and integrates with my smart phone.

Easy to install even on a old boiler, does what it says on the box and connects to router no problem. Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNice product with one minor drawback.
I’ve been a fan of Netatmo products for a while – I already own the weather station and security camera products which are still working just fine after 3 years of ownership So I decided to add the thermostat product to the stable. Overall the product works very well: I especially like the fact that it integrates with the Netatmo outdoor weather module so that when there is a particularly cold night, it will switch on the heating earlier to allow more time for the house to warm up.
I do have one criticism however. The wiring for the relay is easy enough but Netatmo supply a double sided sticky pad to fix the relay to the wall next to the boiler. The pad is quite small and indeed wouldn’t benefit from being any bigger as the electrical connector that connects to the back of the relay stands proud of the back of the relay, meaning that you only have the surface area of the connector (maybe 2cm x 4cm) that makes contact with the wall.
Given the proximity of the relay to the boiler, it is perhaps the radiant heat from the boiler softening the glue of the sticky pad that means that before long the relay drops off the wall. A second sticky pad bought separately from a stationery shop had the same effect and it seems a shame to reach for the Gorilla tape to ensure a firm fix. I would have to say that on this point Netatmo have let themselves down with what is obviously a design fault – an after-thought at that.
The Smartphone App works nicely; but it would be useful for you, the reader, to know that rather than go to the menu to see the temperature graph, you can simply rotate the phone into landscape. Not obvious from the app!
Other than this, I would recommend the product.

    Excellent bit of ki
Easy to install, just two wires, and easy interface with the net. Works well with Alexa. Little bit of set up re temperature setting. It replaces a old on off thermostat. As the Netatmo thermostat thinks for its self i found the heating on at times I was not expecting. As it learns how the house heats up over a few weeks that has got less.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuper easy to install. Better than Nest if you have an integrated smart home.
This is my first smart thermostat and if you’re anything like me, you want to fit it yourself and you want it to be nice and easy. This thermostat is all of those.

Wiring is very simple, connect the blue and brown wires to the live and neutral supply to the boiler (Turn the power off to your boiler!!). This can be either in the boiler itself or in the fused spur if you have one. The remaining two, the grey and black connect to the terminals where your thermostat connects to. If you don’t already have one, you should have a small piece of wire connecting theses terminals. If you’re not sure, google your boiler and search for something like “Link Wire” or “Thermostat Connection”. Once you’ve found these, disconnect the link or thermostat wires and install the grey and black wires. These wires are NOT POLARITY DEPENDENT, so you can’t wire these the wrong way round. Don’t worry, this is very easy to fit.

Connectivity wise, I’ve had no issues with Wi-Fi, the router is at least 30 meters away (its a long story) and I have full signal. I did find it easier to connect the included relay to the also included three-pin plug and plug it in close to the router. This allows all the Wi-Fi details and firmware updates to be installed for you. The app is very good too. It takes the hassle out of the relay set up.

Heating wise, once it gets cold, the boiler comes on. Its as simple as that. I’ve connected it to Alexa, IFTTT and Samsung Smarthings. The reason I chose this over Nest is Google’s recent decision to remove third party connectivity from their devices.

Beyond that, I’ve not seen any major cost savings in my heating, that will probably take time.

Overall then, I’m a huge fan. It looks good, is very easy to fit and has some great integrations. I paid 100 for it, which to me was a bargain. Looking to add some more Netatmo items next I think!

Does pretty much what it says on the tin. Very easy to instal and set up and the app is pretty easy to use when you’ve gotten to grips with the different heating zones. I did have an issue with the temp sensor which undergrad my old digital temperature gauge by 2-3 degrees but you can adjust the temperature you see from the app which is quite handy.

    The best smart thermosta
I have had 3 or 4 different smart thermostats (in different tenanted properties owned, including Google Nest Smart (Gen 3), Heatmiser etc and I have found the Netatmo smart thermostat by far the most configurable (and easy to do so) with comprehensive reporting of usage.
I now have three of these in three different properties (Leicester, Birmingham & Nottingham) and am able to remotely view usage, temperatures and battery life! I can also amend schedules down to the time a boost is enabled (I have it set for 25 minutes btw!). The actual mounted thermostat is not touchscreen but a simple rocker-type (up/down) with all the more intricate changes able to be adjusted via the app or on PC.

Don’t be under the illusion that you can just install this yourself if you can “change a light switch” as some other reviews suggest.
You’ll need a qualified boiler engineer or maybe an electrician unless you know what you are doing.
