We purchased this as a Christmas gift for our 3 and 5 year old granddaughters. With COVID our daughter has been home schooling them the entire school year. The 5 year old sat at the dining room table for over 2 hours until her Mom made her take a break on Christmas day. It is easy enough for her to do on her own and has engaged her to the point that she is asking often to be allowed to play with it. We bought several other Osmos add on’s for them to use with the starter kit.
Great product! I had some initial reservations based on mixed reviews and the overall cost of the system. I decided to try it out and I am glad I did.
We had an initial issue getting the tablet to “see” the play mat but since then it has been non-stop fun! My daughter has only played 4 of the 6 apps so far and she loves them. The mixture of hands-on learning and technology is very well balanced. I like that my daughter can practice problem-solving while also being creative. I would recommend to anyone with preschool-age children.
Very fun and educational! Doesn’t come with the adapter for the kindle we have so annoying to have to purchase additional pieces to make it work. This is the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars. Wish it also had come kind of containment for all the pieces but can purchase after market.
We bought Osmo Little Genius starter kit for our 4-6 year old. This lit up our little one’s face on Christmas day and I have to say it’s literally the favorite (educational) “toy” for all our boys. They have not put this down and they are loving explorings and creating. We are able to hear our sons reiterate what is being taught and also working together to solve the Newton bounce games.
I would like to say that we took the time to set up everything prior to wrapping this gift and it made their first experience with Osmo seamless. We recommend doing this for your kids as well so that play can happen straight out of the box.
An amazing product, and this kit is worth every penny because there’s so much to do and so much to add on. We will be purchasing all add one in the coming months!
Bought on prime deals at a bargain price for a Xmas prese
After I purchased for over $100 Target had it for less than $60
Very disappointed .
Happy my grandkids like it but the immediate price difference at target was ridiculous. I hate being ripped off by amazon pricing sometimes.
The three year old has been sent back from nursery for the second time and this has really come into its own.
We can generally get him involved with this which means we can get on with some work. Actually we quite enjoy it as well!
We are using it on a Kindle Fire and it was easy to set up.
my 3 years old great grandson loves it.. it will help him for years
Did not receive instructions for the kit or the redemption code for the additional games. Otherwise this product is awesome. Kiddo loves it.
Edit: communication with osmo was very easy, they provided a code within 1 day.
Super cool product! Got this for our 3 yo. He’s very interested in it and although an adult needs to guide him it is mostly a diy learning game. My 8 yo loves it too. Looking forward to adding more games to this system
My son asked for this for two years. He is almost five so we purchased it this summer. He plays with it almost daily. We are getting some new games for the holidays for him to use with it. He is constantly using the manipulatives to make pictures. Love how it challenges him.
Osmo is an interactive toy that uses innovative technology to bring physical toys into the digital world. To make it work you first download the app onto your tablet. Then place the tablet onto the Osmo stand then sit the red reflector over your tablets camera. Now my son Harry can make physical objects appear as fun content on our tablets screen.
You get two accessories boxes which contain 38 silicone sticks and rings (BPA free & dishwasher safe), and the other contains 19 costume pieces on double sided card. All the pieces are brightly printed and very good quality.
Within the app you need to download each of the four games that are included. Harry’s favourite is the Squiggle Magic game which took him through a series of challenges that ask him to create patterns that appeared on the screen. Harry needed a little help at first arranging the physical objects to match the ones on the screen, but after a few of the exercises he soon managed to do it by himself. He is really fascinated with this game and he was so excited to see his robot appear on screen!
Harry really enjoyed the Little Genius Starter kit. It is clear to see him learning whilst playing with the kit. Despite Harry being at the lower end of the age range he still enjoyed it and was able to understand all the games within the app. The great thing about this set is that it is expandable and you can add more games and add ons as your kids grow older.
This would make a fantastic Christmas present and is highly recommended.

Fun and engaging. My toddler loves the games, especially the Stories and Costumes. Keeps him entertained long enough for me to complete a couple of conference calls.
He doesn’t get to play too often- maybe an hour or two per week. He’s already completed all of the stories in the game and finished the numbers game- my point being, I expected the content to be a bit more… expansive.
Some of the problem solving components are a bit strange, too. One story has the kid figure out how to clean cobwebs off a chair. We tried all of the options until it suggested the crown… because it glitters. Not super logical.
The set up is weird, too. Each game is its own app, and it’s not abundantly clear which app goes with which set. I’m still not sure I have all of them downloaded.
Overall, it’s better than video games and provides good content. The numbers and letters and shapes apps are cool and definitely educational. Occasionally glitchy, but my kid loves it.
Osmo is rather wonderful — an interactive educational toy that bridges the gap between real world and screens — and something with which it’s amazingly easy to get children involved. Where there are screens, there are kids queuing! The kit is nice and sturdy and consists of: a base unit to dock the tablet into; a reflector that clips on top of the tablet; two boxes of pieces to support 6 game types (Squiggle, ABCs, Costume Party, Shape Builder, Counting Town, and Stories); and a mat for putting pieces on to interact with the tablet.
The plastic base is very solid and sturdy and not prone to tipping over, even when excited pre-schoolers start poking at the screen! To use the system you do need to remove tablets from any cases before fitting the base and reflector. This Little Genius Starter Kit is compatible with generation 7-9 versions of Fire tablets, but at the time of writing (nearly two months after release) this has not been made compatible with the 2020 Fire releases. The base systems are available for iPad and Fire, but are not interchangeable between device types. My older nephews already had an iPad based Genius set, but could only use it with the tablets belonging to grown up family members. This Fire platform starter set unlocks using their own tablets to play.
My youngest nephew is a bit below the recommended age level for this and some of the games are things that he will need to grow into, but he’s delighted to be able to sit with a grown-up and use the dressing up-based Costume Party and Stories — seeing the clothes he’s putting on characters on the play board appear in the on screen animations — replicating something he’s seen his older brothers do with their iPad-based version. From an adult point of view, it’s a bit less stressful to use an Osmo system with the kids’ own, less expensive, Fire tablets rather than on iPad.
Amazing device for kids to interact with the Ipad. Got it mainly for my 3 year old but my 7 year old loves to play with it also. Super easy to use. Just need to down load apps on your ipad.

This ‘Little Genius Starter Kit’ is absolutely superb, since getting it my two young nieces can’t wait to play this when they visit. They love the interaction and the play value this set provides, even after several weeks it is still their ‘go to’ activity when they are round.
The kit itself gives you everything you need for your young ones to play and learn with several different apps which you simply download from the app store. Included is a special stand that you place your fire tablet on and which has a special mirror that re-directs the camera direction so that it is able to recognise the objects your little ones place on the bottom stand area. This is then reflected on the tablet screen and allows your youngster to interact with the apps learning problem solving into the fun they are having.
In terms of value it is proving so popular and the young ones seem to be learning pretty quickly that I would class it as outstanding. I hope that additional apps may be added in the future to extend its capabilities even more, but regardless it is still proving popular so it gets my recommendation 🙂

It took a while to get this set up to use as I had to download each of the Osmo games onto my Amazon fire tablet, but once it was done it was really good. There are no instructions with the kit, but instead there’s a link to a website which tells you how it all works. I had put off doing this for a while but it turned out to be really easy. So, in the kit you get a stand which you put the Amazon Fire Tablet on (had to remove the case first), then the clever little gadget which slots on to the top of the tablet and this includes a mirror which reflects onto the white play-mat. Also included is a box of shapes and another box containing a dress-up figure with various costumes (different hats, tops and trousers). Two of the games use the shapes and the other two use the costumes. And they are really brilliant, both educational and entertaining. Our grand-daughter is 4 years old and I know she is going to love this, it’s set at about the right level for Reception age at school. All the games are quite involved and use imagination as well as teaching letters, shapes, numbers and all sorts of things. The child puts the pieces provided onto the playmat and the program then interprets them (difficult to explain until you actually do it). I spent a happy hour or so playing with it. It is quite expensive, at nearly 80 for the set, but I think it should give plenty of really valuable educational and imaginative play time.

This is one of the best learning and educational sets that I have had the pleasure of using with my daughter. The app was simple to get downloaded and set up for use and using it is a breeze.
We used this with a Fire 7 Tablet and it has worked perfectly with it, my daughter loves it.
Contents : * Tablet Stand.
* Mirror.
* Play Mat.
* 2 storage boxes with game parts inside.
Highly recommended from me, treat your kids with this, it’s a fantastic experience.

This is a very clever idea. You need an Ipad to make this system work. You simply take the Fire Tablet stand, add the projector unit and download the App and you are ready to play. The set comes with four different games to play. They are word/letter association games which build your child’s vocabulary. The kit comes with the stand and projector unit and a number of sticks which you use to build letters, according to what is shown on the screen. This is easily set up and interactive, but our young son got bored rather quickly with it, as he needed help with the “curly” letters. It is a great idea, but I am not sure it is worth the money and to fully expand the utilities of this set, you need to buy more add on’s. I am happy to recommend it, as a starter kit.

My daughter loves this it’s helped make learning fun it’s very neat. This comes with four games ya think other games are expensive to add on to it. 34$ to add the shapes and math app each and 70$ for other game kits. Overall I would recommend
Brilliant! I was actually amazed at this set. It’s expensive but it really is brilliant. You get 4 games included and the other ones you can trial so this is little genius starter kit, maths is a paid extra.
The quality of the kit and the pieces is outstanding, the rubber pieces, the mat and the dress up pieces are all top notch, it feels expensive to touch.
So you download the apps in parent mode, instructions are via a web link and are well done and easy to follow. You then go to the child and run the app, a parent must register the first time then after that it auto logs in.
There is a stand and a ever mirror attachment that goes over the camera then using the playmat or the dressing up mini board whatever you do it copied into the screen and fit into the presentation, really clever. The dressing up app is brilliant, so simple as whatever you put down on the table under the camera appears instantly on the screen no matter how many times you change it then you can colour it in and more on the tablet.
This is so clever and they have done it so well that we were all amazed how good it actually is, we got it with our 4 year old in mind but our 6 and 8 year olds enjoy it as well, it’s the magic of their things going into the tablet.
I can’t rate this high enough

I wrote a more lengthy review but for some reason it just vanished so here is a quick recap, shorter version! hopefully amazon let me submit this one . This is a kit to use with your fire tablet in order to play learning games and activities . Comes packed well- what’s included in the box is the stand and osmo attachment for the tablet the plane white matt, and two boxes one is filled with pieces of parts of the character and the other is curved and straight line pieces to use In the games . The box states the age it’s suitable for is age 3-5 my daughter is going to be 3 soon so I choose this for her. There is an app you will need to download in order to play the games on your device . This was very Straight fwd and easy to set up. If you have a Compatible fire tablet and and a child 3-5 I would recommend this as it’s great to help with early learning.

He loves it and keeps him entertained for hours, his learning and forgets all about Roblox hahaha
I’ll start this off by saying that is one of the best learning tools i’ve come across for my kids.
We’ve tried a variety of paid for and free education apps but most have fallen by the wayside after a very short novelty period and been replaced by tablet time spent watching Netflix… The one thing we got tablets to move away from!
This Osmo kit though really has sucked both my 3 year old and 5 year old in.
This kit itself is simplistic but a really great idea and everything is of a very high build quality, even the box it comes in is well designed.
You get a very hefty stand that your tablet sits on and a simple clip on ‘mirror’ reminiscent of how periscopes work to divert the camera to face down. Then you put the rubber play mat in front of the camera and fire up one of the many Osmo apps.
The apps will then prompt you to use a variety of shapes, costumes, and other items that come in the Osmo kit and as you move them on the mat it detects them and replicates them on screen. Shapes, counting, ABC etc are all covered in the variety of different apps.
There are a few niggles that i’ll point out.
First one is that all Kid’s Fire tablets come in a protective case for good reason. Having to take the tablet out of the case and stand it vertically on the stand is a little perilous with young kids, some way to lock it to the stand would have been appreciated as it just balances up there.
The second one is that although you get a few free apps to start with, the content is soon burned through or outgrown and some of the prices of the additional apps are eye watering, at least double what I would expect to pay given the high cost of the kits in the first place.
Those two grumbles aside, if you want to invest some money into your kids learning then this really is a great tool and i’m already looking at other products in the Osmo range(mainly the more competitively priced ones!)

I honestly didn’t know what to make of this when it turned up but after some use its probably the best learning resource for tablets I’ve seen.
In the box you get
* the Stand
* Mirror
* Play mat
* 2 storage boxes with parts for the games
The instructions tell you to go to a website to download the games but I found the osmo app on the fire store and downloaded them from there.
The whole thing is easy to set up, click on the mirror over the camera put the tablet I. The stand and the play mat up against the stand then follow the instructions in game.
The games themsleves are excellent, we started with ABCs which gets you to make a letter shape and a picture with the provided squiggles. My little boy (3) didn’t understand at first but with a little help got on his way and found it enjoyable.
What’s great is you make your shape on the playmat and then the character in the app drags it onto the screen and adds it onto a picture.
This is a really great learning resource and we can’t wait to explore it more

The most important thing to note about this is that you need a Fire tablet as it is an add on item.
It is only compatible with 7th generation and above so won’t work with the older ones, so check this before purchasing to avoid disappointment.
You can get Fire tablets fairly cheap, either new, reconditioned or second hand and they are a much more affordable option for young children than spending a fortune on iPads.
This is a lovely pre school activity program which uses interactive elements as well as on screen learning.
The kit includes a stand for your tablet, which holds it upright so it can pick up the activity from the pad, such as forming letters and creating characters.
It’s really fun for young children to see their creations come to life on the screen and it provides an excellent way of combining technology with physical play.
Whilst it’s not cheap I think it’s worth the investment, making learning fun is a sure way of keeping your child interested and teaching them skills that are the building blocks for a solid education.

You receive a smart looking box which contains Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit.
This is produced for the Amazon Fire Tablets, the kit includes lots, including a stand to sit the Fire Tablet on.
The stand also acts as not just a stand but positions the tablet so when you draw with the sticks and rings and it will come alive on the screen, this is positioning the tablet camera in the correct position etc, we loved this feature.
Your little one will be are able to learn there ABC’s, this is done with a character called Squishy, there are customers to create outfits which will interact with characters again on screen
There are lots for the little one to do with this, it’s a great fun learning tool, there probably isn’t anything you couldn’t do with a pen and paper etc, but the way littles seem to learn now is with tablets and Apps etc, this is an ideal addition to home learning.
Osmo also has a parent app, which will send you information about how your little one is using the apps, again a useful tool
I like this, it’s not cheap but I’m sure it will be used loads, it’s a great way to learn and have lots of fun doing so

I like this, it’s not cheap but I’m sure it will be used loads, it’s a great way to learn and have lots of fun doing so
My son is turning six next week and starting kindergarten this year. I’ve been worried all summer about his education since the beginning of Covid. I wanted to find something educational to keep him learning, focused, and engaged. I set it up for him and he immediately started playing. He loved using the manipulatives and creating shapes on his work mat. He was engaged and loved all the different lessons. They were so easy and needed minimal adult support (just to set up). The lessons started easy and slowly scaffolded the content. He is already learning so much about numbers, shapes, and letters. I’m so impressed. My parents will be doing distance learning and will use this as part of his instruction. He loves using it so it will be easy to implement. Highly recommend.
I bought the Osmo little genius starter kit for my four year old to have some educational learning opportunities that were still fun. It helps him work on a lot of age appropriate skills. He is learning how to write so the masterpiece game is a great fun way to help him build his fine motor skills. The costume party game allows him to be creative while also figuring out his spatial reasoning. My only concern is that you are supposed to take the cover off the ipad. I have a two year old that likes to play along with whatever the four year old does. I need to maintain parental supervision to make sure the kids don’t knock over the ipad during a spat, but probably not an issue for folks with older kids.
An awesome gift for my 3 year old nephew. In this day of covid it is nice to have an engaging tactile fun screen time option. Highly recommend
We’ve only had this for a few days, but so far – we are very happy! With our daughter’s preschool cancelled due to COVID, we were looking for a gift that would not keep her entertained & actively learning so when school starts back up, we’re ready for kinder! At first I was hesitant to purchase the Early Math Kit because of its higher price ($119.99 vs $79.99) but I’m SO HAPPY we did because she’s having A BLAST WITH COUNTING. It was super easy to set up. It’s also great seeing her build her numbers/letters with the colored sticks because her fine motor skills are still limited and she struggles with making her letters on paper. The story time game is also great and really helps stretch her mind and think creatively. I’ll update as she plays more, but so far it’s our favorite activity!
10/5/20 update: she’s still loving it – 5 stars highly recommend this because math is included. We’re so happy I’m also buying for my sister’s kids.
Love Osmo because I can have my daughter be entertained so I can work. I love that I don’t have to feel guilty about her being on her iPad and that it’s educational. The games are so creative and my daughter gets a kick out of how it scans her creations onto the iPad. We use our Osmo daily and rotate out the games. Can’t recommend this enough… especially during current times with all our kids at home!

Super pour pratique l’alphabet! J’adore
Bought this for my 3 1/2 year old Grandchildren, amazing way for them to learn. Easy for them to use & interact. Such a clever thing & well worth the money. You can add to it as they get older.
Great teaching toy. Love it. Great quality and fast service. My grandson loves it and he is just 4 years old. Thank you.
This is absolutely fantastic. My 4 year old son loves this and it has made ‘home learning’ much easier! Worth every penny!
The kids love this product. The games are hard enough they have to think but not so hard that they give up. Its brilliant!!!
My 4 years old daughter love it. Easy to use and useful .
Excellent product. My 4 year old can use it no problem and plays with it a lot.
Holds our 4year olds attention (not always easy to do) and fun to sit and watch him. Really gets him to think while he is having fun. We haven’t told him it’s educational lol
Such a great educational toy that a child can grow with.
I was able to connect this to my iPad and used it with my 5-year-old niece with out any issues. She’s very creative and her eyes lit up as soon as we started to use it. I will admit that the lack of directions were daunting but we were able to refer to the website which was more or less easy enough to navigate and we eventually figured it out!
My niece was learning the whole time that we were using this and she didn’t even know it! Since she loves painting, drawing, and being creative in general she was in heaven while using this.
I do find it to be on the pricey side, even considering what this all includes, which is why this lost one star from me. Little creatives should be able to create at a reasonable price and even though this is a starter kit they really do encourage you to buy all of the add ons from them. For this price I would expect everything to come included.
This is a great game for both children and adults. We enjoyed playing the games together. It’s great for imaginative play too. She is 5 and started school in September and this one was a great starter for her.
Great product. Lot of hours for kids to play with.
Was good value when we got it kids love it and they keep playing with i
Excellent way to develop skills and learning using a tablet device. My 3 year old loves it.
Very entertaining and fun. Teaches lots of stuff and kid loves it.
Was for my 4 year old grandson,he absolutely loves it! Money well spe
This system is AMAZING at engaging our 3.5 year-old. He is actively learning how to make shapes and letters, along with the story game has been mesmerized by this much more than any other game or learning tool.
My only concern is the cost of additional games / add-ons. The fact that most require a physical media kit makes it more challenging than just buying an additional app.
I highly recommend this.
What a perfect gift for all little genius out there
This is brilliant! We brought it for our 4 year old boy and he absolutely loves it. Everything you need is in this box including the stand, mirror, magic mat and bits to play a few games all you need is an iPad and access to App Store to download the corresponding game apps for the osmo. We are going to buy another add on set to complement this to give him more learning games!
My son very happy with his Christmas present from dad step mum loves it to bits thank you
Para regalo. Envo antes de lo que me haban dicho. Ya lo hemos usado y un xito
My 5 yrs old loved it and my 2.5 yrs old is not too much. But worth to buy.
Pretty cool games that work together with an iPad to enrich younger kids’ gaming experiences with words and narration and help them learn. The games and the iPad interact so kids can learn about writing, making pictures, dress-up and animal stories. Comes with a gaming mat and all the bits and pieces kids need to lay… except the iPad and the Osmo app (which is fairly easy to set up). A more fun way for kids to interact with tech than just ‘screen time’.
They never had this type of thing in my day. Then again, they never had iPads either. The ‘Osmo – Little Genius Starter Kit for iPad’ is a cute little set designed for children around the 3-5 year range. The iPad is not included, but you do get a stand, camera accessory and some play elements. Also included is access to four games that work with the kit.
It is simple to set up and works well. The games are a cross between straight educational and some fun Wii-esque camera actions. You play on the pad provided and the camera picks it up. The fun is when your ideas are transported onto the iPad. This is great fun, but also very useful as you can compare things like letters side by side. The child can easily see if they have got something that looks right.
The pack does set you back a bit, but you do get a lot in it. It is nice to use the iPad more for education and not just entertainment. We do have education games on it already, but this one has the added interactive elements that really encourage the kids.

Great idea and good execution. May be not perfect, but does the job. Kids will like it. As long as they dont take the Ipad and start watching youtube!!!
My son is 4 years old, in JK, and this is the right learning tool at the right time. It is very well made, but is pricey.
He is like a sponge right now…learning so much at a rapid rate so that this is one more tool he is using to get the basics down and have some fun. I really like the problem solving and social issues included.
He thinks he is playing, which he is, but he is also learning and that’s a win/win.
This is a very clever idea. You need an Ipad to make this system work. You simply take the Ipad stand, add the projector unit and download the App and you are ready to play.

Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit for iPad is lots of learning and fun for kids age 3-5+. My 5 year old son loves it. In general I do not prefer to have my kids use iPads/phones even for learning. But, Oslo system is very different. Though it uses iPad as tool, it is pretty interactive and kids do most of stuff actually outside iPad. Kids uses playing mat and handheld pieces like sticks and rings to interact and learn.
This kit includes everything to learn basics such as letter, phonics, ABCs apart from other fun part such as costume party. Apart from structured learning, kids can make their own creations using sticks and rings and they will see it come to life.
This starter kit includes Osmo base for iPad, card board pieces, silicon sticks/rings and game play mat.
Overall, a great starter kit for kids for learning and development of creativity, imaginations and fine motor skills and lots of fun. Highly Recommended!
This is great. Very educational. Works great with the iPad and app. Children learn from this, rather than sitting watching you tube this is fun and educational. Keep child’s brain working. Would’ve been great if extras were included for the children that like challenges, as my son easily got bored sometimes and wanted something abit more challenging. For the price compared to other osmo products it’s okay but this is pretty basic too. Would definitely recommend
I really like this – a physical learning toy linked with an iPad based system – the best of both worlds.
You little ones can manually interact with the pieces (letters, shapes, people – with clothes) whilst the iPad prompts them with a variety of games.
I can see this product growing and growing
Nowadays kids spend a lot of time staring at a screen, big or small. First, I was hesitant to let my older one play with this kit. However, the games are well designed with excellent educational value. Kids learn a lot when playing along.
This kit is for preschool aged kids. It encourages kids to develop creativity and problem solving skills. All the pieces in this kit are well made. My only gripe is that the kit is quite expensive.
This is a good quality learning game for pre-school age children, and is nicely packaged. Whilst nothing replaces face-to-face play and learning, especially for young children, using media in a way that promotes interactive, hands-on, joint engagement is an exciting alternative to more passive apps games and programs.
The four games in the Little Genius Kit focus on the following skills:
– Nursery school letter formation (ABCs);
– creating pictures with sticks/rings (Squiggle Magic);
– dressing/feeding a character (Costume Party);
– bringing animals to life, which encourages problem solving, learning of
letters and creativity (Stories).
It looks like it makes learning fun.
Of course, you will already have an I-Pad!

A super impressive piece of kit designed to work alongside your iPad. This starter kit includes 4 main games incorporating letter creation and practice, designing and copying shapes, costume play and storytelling.
What’s clever about the Osmo is that a small reflector sits on top of the iPad camera and this can ‘see’ what your child is creating on their white mat. My children (3 and 5) find it easy to use and follow. The 3 year old in particular is very stimulated by the games and is asking to play with the Osmo on a regular basis.
For pre-school children, this is a great starter pack introducing them to numbers, shapes and words. For those in early years education, it’s reinforcing what they are learning at school. All in all a brilliant starter kit and a very clever idea.

Tons of learning fun for kids under 10.
I really like how it makes learning interactive with the monster teachers. My wife and I also appreciate the drawing, colouring and writing help that it gives. The tablet camera films the paper and uses programming and AI to grade and assert your child’s answer or work is correct. It works pretty well and is honestly a pleasure to use. The monster teachers encourage your kiddo along the way.
If you’re looking for an educational reason to give your kiddo tablet/phone time this is perfect.
Our grandson is a little too young yet for this rather clever little game but we are looking forward to using it with him over the next year. It suggests it is suited from three-years-old, but with an adult to supervise it is easily useable before this and is truly great fun, bringing a whole new area of use to an iPad.
This interactive kit is easy to set up and use, it’s a fair mix between today’s technology and using actual physical objects rather than just starring at a screen. It’s perfect for kids who are on their ipad alot and could do with coming back to the real world, or for kids who don’t have a clue about today’s tech and could do with a little introduction.
Great iPad game for my toddler who is almost 3 years old. Worked well on our iPad mini, and was very quick to set up by just installing the main osmo app and then installing the 4 included games, as guided within the app.
In the box you get the stand and camera accessory needed for the starter kit, along with the mat and two sets of pieces. Each set works for two games each. The pieces are used on the mat so that the camera can sense them and adapt the content on screen.
The games are well pitched for this age group, easy to get to grips with and kept my daughter busy and entertained for a long time.
Within the games, you have creativity such as dressing up characters, or making up pictures using shapes like circles, curves and sticks. These can also be used to make letters, giving the games a good balance of fun and educational benefits.
The whole system is well made, feels high quality and is very intuitive
This Tablet-focused system is a great way for the kids to spend their screen time.
It easily connects to our iPad and our iPhones within a few minutes (initial installation of the App), and it is ready to go. Each game is a different app to download, and expansion kits can be purchased as well.
The ipad fits into the Osmo system, and the games start. The cute Monster letter game is high quality, and directs the kids what to do, where to tap, and then checks to make sure the objectives are fullfilled (i.e. making a letter which then can be read into a word starting with that letter).
The Costume party is another favourite of the kids – and they can interact with this app on both the screen and the board – making the character come to life. It’s both creative and imaginative.
There is also a building game, so they have to “build” on the mat what is shown on the screen – it’s really good for hand eye co-ordination skills.
This is such a great use of screen time – and they’re learning while having fun – the best way to learn!
We’ll definitely invest in more expansions so they can continue taking advantage of this system without getting bored.

This kit is designed to use interactively with your iPad, so has a stand to put the iPad on so that it can scan what is happening on the mat. The Little Genius model is aimed at letter formation so has a bundle of sticks to help form the shape of the letters but does not really help with writing as there is no flow to the shape. My four year old was entertained for a while but did get a little frustrated trying to get the right shape with the bendy sticks so she did need support with it, older children will no doubt be able to play on their own with it.
The app comes with the product you just need to download and everything goes back in the box for storage.
The quality is good but I think a little expensive.

Good quality learning game for pre school age.
This helps with the learning for tiny tots.
Colourful and neat.
When it comes to Osmo, the word that keeps battering me in the face is Quality. Everything about this feels like a well-thought out brand, quality and flawless. Even the included physical toys themselves are darling and well-made. The packaging feels super high-end, like unwrapping an amazing treat. They haven’t forgotten who they are for either, with the box itself allowing you to pop out a section and take a photo of your child as an ‘osmonaut’. It’s a fun, smart and brilliantly made kit that straddles the line between the physical and digital.
This doesn’t mean it’ll be right for everyone. The one issue with the Osmo is value. The cost is quite expensive for what you get and even the apps are simpler than you’d think, given the high price. With this kit, you’re paying for the two toys and the starter ‘Osmo’ reflector and base. So basically a tablet stand, a reflector, some shapes, some stiff card dress-up toys and four-games. Oh and the silicone mat. That’s a big ask at this price, even if everything is beautifully made.
For that reason, while I would recommend Osmo to anyone, I feel it would only be right for a percentage of people who can get more value out of it. I’d say buy it if you don’t have a budget/have an excess of spare money OR are willing to prioritise paying for a system like this. Another person who will get better value here would be anyone with a large family, or who interacts with a lot of children. For example, schools, daycares, children’s centres and more will all get great value from this.

Compatibility
————————
I was super impressed with their compatibility. I have an older iPad that I got for free on a bank deal and I was really concerned it wouldn’t work. The fact that they support such a broad range of iPad’s is brilliant, as many newer things stop support to encourage people to buy newer tech. Lots of people sadly toss old tech and it’s great to know that these older iPads could still have uses.
Just make sure yours works with this, by reading their compatibility list.

Games
——————–
The Osmo app is very cleverly laid out, but one thing I would caution is taking the time to get it set-up. Each game has to be individually installed as it’s own app, directed from the ‘main’ app. So it really does take some time to get everything installed and set-up. You might want to pre-set it up and then introduce Osmo to your child/children.
While the app very much encourages you to buy more by showing ALL the games, it does state clearly which toy is required for which game. It also, mercifully, allows you to hide the games for toys you don’t have, sidestepping the issue of kids who ‘see it, want it’, for those on a more limited budget.
This beginner set allows you to play 4 games, 2 for each toy, as well as some games that require only a white sheet of paper and are free (or you can use the Creative kit whiteboard).
The shapes, different coloured sticks and discs, each with a lovingly stamped ‘Osmo’ brand can be used to play ABCs or Squiggle Magic. Both are introduced and guided by a lovely monster who will ‘talk’ to your child and leave spaces for answers where appropriate.
ABCs – This game will teach the alphabet, but it’s cleverly got more than that. Basically Mo (the Monster) will ask your child to use the shapes to make a letter, which he will then ‘pull in’. However, he will then pick a word beginning with that letter (example: V, Van) and they will make the picture too. What’s brilliant here is he shows you how to make the picture, but kids have total creativity and freedom. Whatever picture you make, the Osmo Reflector will use the camera to grab it and insert it in the picture. So your child sees their own artwork in the iPad.
Squiggle Magic – This is more of a creative game. Kids will be asked to make different ‘friends’. Robot, animals etc. Again, they are shown a guided one, but can make whatever they like and it will be shown onscreen.
The beautifully drawn ‘costume’ pieces can also be used for two games. The costuming is gender neutral. While the base person looks slightly more masculine (short hair), the hairs and outfits are both feminine and masculine, meaning nobody has to feel left out. The art is also brilliant, cute and pretty at the same time.
Costume Party – This game is more of a showcase for the toy itself. The figure appears on screen and can be painted. The hair and skin colour has a broad, but not full, range, both fantastical and realistic. Children can change any colours by clicking on the paintbrush colour here and then on the corresponding item. They can mix and match their own designs here for fun, but the game will ask for certain things by showing a picture of them. If they succeed they get a bit ‘tick’ and a new combination to make!
Stories – This is more of a creative literature game. Basically an animated story will play out, with the character wearing whatever the physical toy is wearing. Outfits will need to be changed to ‘solve’ puzzles in the game and progress. For example, if a monkey wants a banana, you change to the outfit holding a banana and click on the banana on screen.
The free games are mostly drawing games that can also be used with the Osmo Creative set, but they are worth mentioning as creative children will love them. There’s a gravity puzzler in which you draw the lines, a simple ‘copy’ drawing game and ‘Monster’ where Mo will request you to draw stuff for story reasons.
On top of this, there is also a parent app that will track your kid’s activities in the app and send you updates, their artwork, etc.
Other games/add-ons can be bought, but the price for the toys is pretty high.

This Osmos starter kit for iPad is an amazing interactive learning tool to invest in for your children. The little genius starter kit comes with the Osmos base with the red scanner, play mat , silicone shapes and a little boy with different cardboard clothes you can dress him in. This system is highly interactive and is aimed to be used by children 3-5 years old. You place the objects on the play mat and the scanner scans it right onto the iPad. It creates different scenes and stories that your child can follow along and interact with. The technology on this is amazing and I love how involved your child can get with it. It teaches so many learning concepts and helps build fine motor skills as well. This system is so much fun to use, your children might not be the only ones playing with it! It’s also fun for adults to play with too!
I have 3 girls ages 4-8. My youngest just started school andi is loving learning everything. I was happy to get this osmo kit in for her to use and learn from. Its great it came with the ipad base for those that dont already have one. Osmo is one of those things you can build on to with other kits. So far my kids are enjoying it. My older kids have been helping my youngest with it and making it a game. There are small pieces so if you have a child that puts things in their mouth they should be monitored.
I’ve been looking at buying the OSMO games for Little Guy and Wee Girl after watching a demonstration at my local library. The games are all learning based for non readers – but are also lots of fun to play.
To get started you must have an iPad and will need to download the app from iTunes for each game. This was easy, as was setup. There are parental controls that can be put in place. You can also create an online account to track play and progress. Osmo uses your device’s camera with the special included mat, stand and scanner.
The Little Genius Starter Kits is geared to 3-5 year olds. The kit contains four games – ABC’s, Costume Party, Squiggle Magic and Stories. Pieces for all four games are included. The pieces are very sturdy and will stand up to rougher handling by small fingers. The colors are bright and the images clear. The ‘squiggles’ are BPA free and can be washed in the dishwasherif needed.
We started with ABC’s as Little Guy knows them pretty well. The ‘host’ of the games is a friendly monster named Moe that didn’t scare us at all. He has a welcoming voice as well. The pacing of the instructions from the monster are perfect for small fry. No rush, no time limits and a positive message always. The graphics are sharp and clear.
Costume Party took a minute for Gramma to figure out, but once we got it we had fun. The character’s facial expressions and actions will let you know if you’ve picked the look the character wants. Out of all four, this was the least favourite Squiggle Magic was a bit hit – it’s free form fun, creating anything you want with the pieces and then – they’re animated! Stories uses the costumes again as a tale is told and you must figure out what is needed to make the story go forward.
What all these games have in common is of course learning. I myself was fascinated by this method of learning. I don’t think I would someone this young on their own – it’s more fun with someone else and having an adult there to help guide things along. (And the iPad needs to be out of it’s protective case!)
Little Guy is close the top end of the age recommendation. I can see him wanting something ‘more’ in a few months, so I’ll be scoping out what other games are available. Wee Girl is at the bottom of the age range and this is just perfect for her. And she was happiest when she had it all to herself. ;0)
This is a transportable game, but for now it’s living at Gramma’s house. And Mom was happy with the learning and play combined.
Great for helping pre school children in helping motor skills!
Pre reading and story telling!
You get 1 base for iPad
4 game play apps, 38 sticks and rings to help learning the alphabet and costume pieces to change outfits for your character!
Play mats interactive With you’re iPad to help learning as it scans play mat!
This is a fantastic set for older kids, 3 seems to be hitting the nail on the head. I know my son would just throw these prices everywhere right now. It’s nice this works with Amazon’s fire tablet and iPads as well. Really thinking of grabbing a fire tablet as grandma has the iPad so he will be playing with this at her place. Really cool interactive set that grows as your kids grow and can take part in more of the activities. It’s funny and witty.
I cannot get over how cool this interactive game system is! I try to limit the amount of screen time my children get, I don’t like the mindlessness of it. I love how these games give the kids entertainment as well as keeping them engaged and using their cognitive skills. Set up is really easy, you just download their app to your iPad, and the parent app to your iPhone. All the games are separate apps that are downloaded and then connected to your child’s profile. In the box there is an iPad dock, a mirror attachment that goes over the camera, a play mat, shapes for two games and dress up pieces for two games. The dress up pieces are excellent quality, not flimsy at all. Same goes for the shapes. The games are very interactive and easy for a non-reader to follow. My kids are having a lot of fun following along to the different games. There are lots of expansions that can be purchased which I think is great. The only thing I don’t like is that I have to take the protective case off of my iPad in order for it to fit onto the dock. I’m not very comfortable having my young kids playing around an unprotected iPad. Aside from that, this is an awesome kit and I’m looking forward to expanding our collection.
This little kit is quite fun. You need and iPad (newer than the first generation of iPads) or an Osmo to use this. Variety of games and some add-ons (sticks, rings), cardboard pretend play costume cards. There are four games included.
Currently there is no price listed, I wish there was as that is a huge part of evaluation – especially given there are so many free educational games in the app store.
My niece is just getting old enough now for some of these more interactive iPad based games. I’ve never really liked giving her the iPad, because of the lack of real world interaction and trying to reduce her screen time. The Osmo takes that concept however and flips it on its head, by melding physical interaction with the iPad screen.
Set up is quick and simple with the included dock and app. My niece was up and playing in no time. It was really nice seeing her slowly build her confidence as she played each game – the real time feed back is really nice, and it was so incredibly cute seeing her face glow as her real life pieces showed up on screen. There’s a good variety of games, with about 5 in total, ranging from more free and open games like the doodle game, to the more rigid ABC games. It’s been great for solidifying some of her concepts, and working her fine motor skills.
Overall my niece has really enjoyed this, and it’s made for some very great uncle niece moments! A great foray into digital games, that mixes physical touch with digital play. It’s a little bit pricey, but one I could definitely recommend if you’re looking to treat your little one.
