It’s a a really good top down shooter, despite the more kid friendly presentation, don’t let that fool you, it’s one of those old school challenging games. Getting a high rank in the leaderboards will test your patience and skill. The pixel art is well done with good animation and charming art style. After beating it the arcade mode does give it more replay value by letting you play with the other characters and two player couch co-op. The game has a manual section that shows you what each character can do, which does affect how you play quite a lot.
Now for the negatives, 2 Player mode is only unlocked after beating the story mode, this is a bummer if you’re looking to pick it up and play with someone right out of the box.
Cutscenes are text only, no voice overs, personally not a problem for me, but some people may take issue with this.
For some this will be really short, it can be beat in a little over 2/3 hours. But it is a good game when you just wanna play something quickly for half an hour.
I loved this game. It is sort of a remaster, re-imagining of the games from the Super Nintendo which were kind of “hidden Gems” from back in the day.
This game improves on the originals by adding updated graphics, sound and extra characters – the extra characters add a fair amount of extra replay value. There is a story mode and Freeplay mode as well. The music is sublime, really catchy tunes and great old-school sound effects.
Anyway, the only negative I can come up with is the very easy difficulty is not available from the offset and requires you to collect a fair number of coins to unlock. I am not sure why they decided on this, maybe they did it to force you to experience some of the game how it was meant to be played, more of a challenge? anyway, you don’t want it too easy do you!
