The Penguin Mouse from Posturite marks a major breakthrough in the battle to beat health problems caused when computer users spend too much time handling a conventional mouse. The vertical ambidextrous design helps reduce exaggerated movements of the wrist, which can be a cause of both repetitive strain injury (RSI) and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
Created exclusively by Posturite – experts in ergonomic products for office and home since 1991.
- Vertical mouse encourages ergonomic use

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Bye bye shoulder pain, thank you penguin!!!
certainly improved the tension/spasms in my shoulder/ neck muscles and did not take too long getting to use to it on the PC with either hand. easy to install. Sometimes I press the wheel instead but this is only a minor point and I have to think a little more. However I do wish I had bought it a long time ago so its gets 5 stars
This is a very good mouse to hopefully correct a shoulder problem I currently have. The only problem I have had with it is the size of the base means it is further away from my keyboard than I would ideally like which means I have to reach out a little, though this may actually be by design as it does mean I move my are more
I have been using this mouse for some weeks at the time of writing. I suffer from some RSI related tendon discomfort from mouse clicking with my middle and fore fingers of my left hand. I tend, with a normal mouse, to flex the whole of my finger from the 3rd knuckle (the one closed to the wrist at the base of my fingers). This mouse has completely eliminated the associated discomfort that I feel in the tendons that control the flexing from the knuckle. It does this by promoting a finger position that encourages the curling of the finger to press the buttons, rather than flexing at one joint. The curling action uses a different set of muscles and tendons and allows the resting of the other tensions and muscles that are the problem. The rest really works as I have been able to use a normal mouse for a day without problems when I have forgetton to pack the penguin. In addition it holds your hand in a neutral position that is good ergonomically. It is a wonderfully designed product and I couldn’t go back to a normal mouse now.
Little weird to use at first, requires more arm strength than I’m used to to prevent allowing my hand to rest on it, but overall should work long term. Only major drawback is lack of back/forward buttons for navigating that are available on most mice. Should be possible to implement on the top of this mouse fairly easily on a future version, but don’t know if that is in the plan.
Takes some getting used to for sure but has made a world of difference to the pain I was getting in my hand from a mac mouse I got used to it quickly and has a great battery life!
Very strange to use at first especially as productivity really matters to me. It took me 2 days full use to really get used to it but after 2 days I checked a normal mouse which then felt really un-natural.
I use the Posturite Penguin for 3D CAD which is constantly in use. Even after 2 days my wrist has no more pain especially at night. The Posturite Penguin feels really natural and comfortable and I feel relaxed using it. Highly Recommended!
Great design and works wonderfully well! The initial shipment I got was defective and scroll didn’t work. It seems that the scroll is the ‘bottleneck’ in this mouse design. Little flimsy and be careful not to over pressure when using scroll. The seller immediately sent me a new shipment and appreciate the fast customer service!!! 5 stars for that!
I bought a wireless version. Works very well even from far distance. It retains charge for almost 3-4 days and overall very happy to have got this. Final advise to people who are thinking to buy it…buy an insurance and I feel like if the scroll goes bad, you may really need it. Other than that, love it!
brilliant product. no more mouse rsi enhanced further by the fact it can also switch quickly between left and right handed. has even made me a little more ambidextrous! Make sure you buy the right size – I needed the larger model, the smaller one would not have worked with my large hands! If you have just a hint of rsi don’t let it get worse (it’s horrible!) and don’t hesitate buying one of these – does exactly what it says on the tin 🙂 Does take a little getting used to as with anything different, but very easy and way better than any other options i’ve tried. And excellent customer service too – ‘scrolling wheel’ started playing up year or so after purchasing – replacement being sent.
I had been given the mouse for my work, so was glad of the opportunity to buy one for my home. It bery comfortable and easy to use.
Disclaimer – I didn’t buy this via Amazon, got it as a gift from someone I work with who was fed up of me complaining about my RSI from using a standard Logitech mouse. I had bought a sit stand desk from this company and knew they did ergo mouses and had mentioned the penguin. Wow, when I got it I fell in love with it pretty quickly. Didn’t take as long to get used to as I expected. The hand is at a completely different position and is SO SO comfortable. I can happily use my mouse all day for a range of tasks (some light graphic design too) and am pain free. Love it and recommend to anyone using a mouse all day and getting pain in their hand/wrist.
No, this mouse is not going to feel right until you get used to it, and it WILL take a while because it is not like any other mouse we have used or seen. But after the first week he wouldn’t trade it for any other mouse.
Battery life is excellent, it lasts more than a week on a full charge.
In the 16 months he has been using this he has never had a single time when the mouse lost its connection with the computer.
Never had any issue adjusting mouse speed or sensitivity. Using it on both Windows 7 and 10 machines from HP and Dell.
This may look phallic, but who cares? It’s also a conversation starter. I bought this in hopes of reducing carpal tunnel symptoms. Not only reduced, but eliminated! It took about a week to get used to using this, but now I can fly across 2 screens and improved my work efficiency.
4 1/2 YEARS LATER…This is one product that I will fully support. Since I began using this, I have had no symptoms of carpal tunnel. After heavy, daily use at work over the past 4 1/2 years, the main button is finally starting to fail. I came back to this because I am going to order another one. A product this helpful lasting over 4 years is worth the investment, in my opinion.
Edit October ’21
I reordered the one the lasted me 4 1/2 years, but after only 2 months, the wheel failed and was causing my cursor to jump all over the screen. I ordered a 3rd one, thinking that I may have just gotten a dud. This time I bought the extended warranty. Again, same thing after 2 months. I tried to file a warranty claim at a local “participating claims center” as contained within the warranty documentation. What a headache, and was going to cost me money to have it sent out. Forget it, I just bought a different brand and type of ergonomic mouse, since this product clearly isn’t what it used to be.

I’ve had one of these at the office for a couple of years and all discomfort from prolonged mouse use went away completely once I switched to this mouse. Now buying one for home. Great product.
Requires some time to adjust. No software setup, but you must calibrate the settings to suit your individual needs such as viable DPI (eg 400-1200)
A life-saver for my arthritic wrist. An added bonus is that I no longer need to switch my mouse to “left-handed” mode, so anyone can use my mouse without confusion and clicking the wrong button.

I have had one of these for some time, and it is very good.
But more importantly the product support is excellent.
I had a problem, of my own making, and their support person
really persevered and went out of her way to help and fixed it.
(Well done and thanks AP)
Recommend and 5 sta
Was recommended this product after having a workplace assessment and have bought additional for home use since. Takes a little bit of getting used to initially but I find much more comfortable than a traditional mouse.
Honestly I am surprised they are not more prominent in the marketplace, as the poor ergonomics of normal mice can seriously affect your body. I have been battling a tendon issue for ages and am hoping this will relieve the pain.
The wireless version comes with a relatively smal USB dongle that the device automatically connects to pretty quickly and it’s immediately recognised by Windows as a standard mouse needing no additional drivers. The dongle will protrude from the side of your laptop quite a bit – fortunately there’s a little covered reces in the base of the mouse to house the USB dongle when in transit.
The mouse has a horizontal scroll wheel and two buttons – these are the active controls that you will use. Sitting underneath your little finger is a switch that changes position when you use the mouse right vs left handed, this effecively reverses the direction of the scrollwheel. It may sound odd but it makes perfect sense when you’re using it.
The mouse also has a number of resolution settings, which can be altered by pressing a button on the underneath of the unit. This has been a really useful feature for me – if yo’uve never used a vertical mouse before and, especially if you’re using your “wrong” hand, then having a super-sensitive mouse is the last thing you need. So i started with it on a relatively low sensitivity meaning I had to move the mouse a large distance to cover one side of the screen to the other. As I got more used to useing the new mouse (and the wrong hand) I was able to turn up the sensitivity, improving my productivity without being really frustrated from the outset.
The battery lasts a really long time. A USB charging cable is supplied, and here’s my only gripe – rather than using micro USB or USB-C, they’ve used a proprietary charging port so if you lose the cable you’re in trouble. Battery charge is indicated by an LED behing the “penguin/spine” logo on the unit. So far mine has lasted about a month without needing a recharge.
It’s missing some of the other buttons that I’d come to rely on with my prevous mouse (A logitech Performance MX), like the back button for browsing etc. BUt that’s not the end of the world. What’s more important is that it has helped me to use my other hand, relieving pressure on my main hand which had started to suffer from the early signs of RSI.
So if you’re looking to prevent or manage RSI, this is a great mouse. Particularly if you’re prone to moving your mouse by flexing your wrist but not moving your arm. This kind of movement can put a lot of strain on your hand – the penguin mouse makes this impossible by resting the heel of your hand on a platform at the base of the mouse itself. The only way you can move it is to move your whole arm, significantly relieving the pressure from your usual mousing style. It’s got a few quirks but RSI is something you’d really rather not have, so even though it seems expensive, it’s cheap consider the problems it can help prevent.
Took me a while two get yous to it but now i think its great, The points I like are you can get it in 3 different sizes ambidextrous and so comfortable in the hand.
Fits right in my 8″ long hand. Won’t change back to a regular mouse.
Takes some getting used to but overall seems like a great product.
FAST shipment, packaged properly, item is just as shown – Many Thanks!
I love this thing. I switched to it from a renaissance mouse, which is great, but this one has the wheel.
Taking me a while to adjusts, but no more shoulder or hand or wrist pains, so it is good for me.
It takes a little time to adjust to . It is great for some that has difficultly using their right hand.
Probably the best mouse for anyone with wrist issues such as RSI and CTS. I am a male with large hands and ordered the large size (it comes in 3 sizes) and is the ONLY mouse to date big enough for my hands. You quickly get used to a horizontal scroll wheel, it’s well-made and slick to use. Once used to it, it’s excellent – hence 5*.
The downer for me is that I am trying to find a mouse to use to ease tennis elbow (my wrists are fine), and the action of moving this mouse is with forearms, not wrists which is why I rate it as the best for RSI & CTS – and because you use forearms, this actually made my T/E worse. I have also used the Evoluent, and if it wasn’t for T/E I would rate this Penguin as the best mouse there is.
This is my 3rd Posturite Penguin Mouse purchase. (I use 2 for myself and my daughter uses 1.) I’d like to rate this a 5 Star, however, the wireless mouse version seems to get trapped in automatic scroll lock too easily. Reviewed the instructions several times and cannot determine how to disengage auto scroll. Perhaps the wheel itself is too loose and I am not willing to tear apart the device for the heck of it. Any ideas Posturite?

I have used mione for weeks now and am totally used to it. I bought the other “Popular” sideways mouse (the evoluent brand) ns did not like that one nearly as much. I bought “one of each” figuring I would use one on my ‘main’ household PC (kitchen) and use the other at my desk (which is still not setup) and this penguin mouse won the test (IMO). I just found the Evoluent mounse to be to easy to “Click” something when I was trying to move it around.
Schon nach wenigen Wochen der Mouse Verwendung dieser Maus ist eine Besserung sprbar.
Schmerzen in Finger und Handgelenk lassen nach.
It’s a good thing the power switch is on the bottom and easily accessible, because I sure do use it a lot. The mouse simply stops working frequently (usually several times an hour) and I have to shut the mouse off and turn it back on. And then it works for a bit. The resolution button – the same thing. The resolution will change for no reason. And the pointer will frequently jump to the top of the screen. Or to the extreme right.
I will confess I still use this mouse. After using a standard mouse at work all day, I like using a mouse with a dramatically different hand position. But the extremely poor software/driver ruins this promising product.
And I contacted the company to see if they could help. Never heard back…
My advise – don’t buy this.
Several weeks later…
I again contacted the company after I posted this review. I did hear back this time, and a very helpful customer representative arranged for another mouse to be sent to me. Unfortunately, the replacement mouse has the same problems. It’s possible this could be a computer/mouse incompatibility problem – not all reviews mention this problem and it’s impossible to ignore. And, yes, I’m still using this mouse. So maybe you will be lucky and this mouse will play well with others in your set-up. Wish it did with mine…
But wait, there’s more!
A week or so after receiving the second mouse, the customer service rep told me that they had done some tinkering with the mouse’s innards and they would be sending me the new model. Well, third time is the charm – this one works perfectly! I can wholeheartedly recommend this mouse! This mouse solves the problem I had with another “vertical” mice I tried – it supports my whole hand and keeps it off the work surface.
I’m a happy camper now…
EDIT After contacting with Posturite UK.
Well, after being contacted directly via email by a Posturite UK representative, he arranged a replacement sent to where I live today, and I didn’t have to send the faulty one to them!, this was a very pleasant surprise given the cost of sending the faulty one to the UK or the USA would be greater than the value of the mouse itself. The replacement mouse arrived in a week, and it works like a charm. The representative said that he’d send one of the “latest batch”, and it seems that some issues have been fixed. The scroll wheel is working now and I haven’t had any random movements of the cursor until now.
Because of this warranty and the nice treatment from the representative, I’m changing my rate to 5 stars now, this is the way a company makes and keeps new clients.

First, as an ergonomic mouse it’s great, the wrist rests fully while the whole arm has to move, the way it’s meant to be. The pain has reduced dramatically.
But… the opticals don’t work on my work desktop. It’s a completely white desk, and sometimes the cursor moves, sometimes it doesn’t. I have to lift the whole mouse to a place where there’s a (now permanent) coffee stain so the optics pick up something. I didn’t have this problem with my previous mouse, a Microsoft 5000.
This has lead to some frustration while working, and to BIG frustration while gaming.
I’ve tried with some other surfaces, white paper, printed paper, cardboard, printed glossy paper, with mixed results.
I don’t want to get a mouse pad since the base of the mouse is so large, the pad would have to be quite large too, but i’ll try on a few and edit.
EDIT.
This mouse sucks. The optics randomly work on any surface I’ve tried it on, now the pointer moves, now it doesn’t. It’s been very frustrating, even my coworkers make fun of me because of such an expensive mouse that doesn’t work.
I’m gonna get a refund.
EDIT EDIT.
Well, the mouse didn’t suck as much, found the problem, I bought a USB 3.0 hub alongside the mouse, and made a last test before returning it, I disconnected the Hub and connected the mouse directly, and it worked like a charm. Made the test on another computer and it was definitively the USB Hub. Tried different hubs with mixed results, but ultimately had to return the hub. So, the mouse works, but not on every USB hub, and has a conflict with the Sabrent 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub with 4A Power Adapter support Fast charging Function [VIA VL812 Chipset] (HB-J3U4) . So, don’t buy together, I got a $3 usb 2.0 hub an works like a charm.
EDIT EDIT EDIT
Having had this mouse for a few months now I can say that it’s not a good mouse, it stops working randomly and often and I have to turn it off and on again to work, and sometimes I even have to disconnect it from the usb port for it to work. Also randomly the pointer moves either all the way to the top of the screen or some space to the right, not very often, but it happens. And the scroll wheel, from some time on it started not to work alright, while using it, the pages don’t scroll as expected, but move up an down quickly not going anywhere.
It’s a shame that such an expensive mouse has such low quality in its electronics. It was a gift from my wife so I use it all day at the office, where I’ve become accustomed to its nuances, but when I get home and use my old standard mouse I can feel the difference.

Use the mouse so that your arm is in a supported position, using gross motor movements & avoid old habits, i.e., flexing the wrist & continuous use of the same hand. One of the best features of this mouse is that you can alternate right & left hands to reduce fatigue & prevent injury, simply by clicking a button on the mouse.
The only thing I dislike is that you have to charge the built-in battery using a USB port, which is a slow method of charging, & there’s no indicator to let you know that it is fully charged. I believe using AA or AAA batteries would be a better power source; thereby, avoiding the charging process.
I would recommend this product.
