Pro-Ject VC-E, Compact record cleaning machine, Silve

pj

The VC-E is a compact and very affordable record cleaning machine. Regardless of its size, the VC-E offers a lot of features:

Improved chassis

vc-e

The aluminium surface of the VC-E is able to withstand excessive fluid spill without compromising the chassis.

Super powerful and fast cleaning

vc-e

The VC-E is super powerful and cleans records in as little as one or two rotations. The very best results are achieved with one rotation forward followed by one backwards.

It turns the record superfast within 2 seconds per rotation, which is about 3 times faster than comparable cleaning machines. The result is a much faster and more effective cleaning process.

Robust materials

clamp

A clamp seales the record label from cleaning fluid and avoids damage on the label.

The robust metal arm is easy to use, mechanically stable and focuses all suction power directly onto the record surface.

Our non-alcoholic vinyl cleaning concentrate, Wash-IT, offers very good cleaning results and reduces static charge, so record wear and stylus wear are significantly reduced.

If you are looking for a compact and yet affordable record cleaning machine, the VC-E is definitely your choice.

Been coin tossing on one of these and an Oki Nokki, but in the end went for this unit, the reviews seemed comparable anyway. Took moments to set up. Very noisy but that’s what it’s for. Makes a significant difference to your vinyl. Bits that have got stuck in the grooves are gone as is the surface noise. If you have a good vinyl collection then invest in one asap, it’ll only increase their value. Desn’t work on Coldplay records as they always sound abysmal however you try…Serves you right for buying terrible records in the first place.

    Cor!

Better than expected. Transforms both old me brand new vinyl. Don’t even hesitate, worth every single penny.

Best machine ever, still trike to figure out how long the suction pad last though on the vacuum arm, records come up great, needs a few attempts on the dirtier records

This product works exactly like it was supposed to,no problems so far, very frugal on cleaning fluid. My 40+ year old record collection looks like new. When you order, make sure you order distilled water too, very hard to get hold of.

I’ve used an OkkiNokki (very similar to the bigger Pro-Ject VC) for the past year or so – this works in almost exactly the same way and is very effective. As a bonus it’s smaller and lighter than its big brother, much easier to store and just as easy to use.

A couple of minor points, the vent hole is on the top of the unit so they’ve included a perspex disk as a work-around in case of condensation. It’s not caused me any issues, I think it’s only if you have a big cleaning session – maybe the compact size precluded a side vent? Also the suction mode is quite noisy (although so are other cleaners). The solid aluminium finish on the top and bottom looks great and the removable metal parts fit with satisfyingly fine tolerances.

All in all it’s a really excellent and efficient machine.

Cleans the records really well – the replacement liquid is expensive though.

Am slowly rebuilding my record collection. Due to the fact that a lot of the artists I used to like don’t qualify for swish reissues, and the fact that I object to the price tag attached to 180g vinyl re-releases, I often hit the 2nd hand market for my records.
These older records, even when only having the lightest of wear have often accumulated years (or decades) of dirt. This means pops, hisses and crackles on playback. Traditional cloths and sprays just don’t seem to effectively remove this grime.
I have been amazed at how good this product is at restoring the sound of my old records. Hisses, pops and crackles have been largely completely eliminated in records nearing 50 years old!
Using the pro-ject is dead easy, only taking a couple of minutes to thoroughly clean a record. You need to mix the cleaning fluid supplied with distilled water (at a ratio of anywhere between 1:10 to 1:20), then apply about 6-8ml of that solution to the surface of the record. Whilst the record spins, use the supplied goats hair brush to gently work the solution into the record’s grooves. Do this clockwise first for a few rotations, then anti clockwise. Then I tend to let the record rest for about a minute, so that the solution has time to do it’s stuff. After that, get the record spinning again and use the vacuum arm to suck away all the dirt and solution. The vacuum is really powerful (and quite noisy), but I guess this is what’s needed to get the dirt out of those grooves. The record is normally bone dry a few seconds later and ready to play.
It won’t compensate for scratches, of course, but it’s astonishing how much dirt it removes. Vinyl looks brand new and shiny after use.
The transformation is unbelievable, and really needs to be heard to be believed.
It’s not an impulse buy, and it’s not cheap, but as a way of preserving and protecting your record collection, it’s worth it.

Suction power is excellent, just few minutes to complete the whole process. Very good.

I bought the VC-E knowing what a good machine it is but the supplied bottle of “Wash It” was empty. The top was loose and it seems the fluid had evaporated.

Works very well but dont expect it to remove scratches ( needle clicks) Gets very hot if used to clean too many discs in a row.. It needs a vent to suck in cooler air although that may not work if the motor runs very hot as a matter of course

Worked perfectly. I have used it a number of times since purchase on new and used vinyl. Defiantly an improvement on my used vinyl. It is very easy to use, strongly recommend to view one of the many YouTube videos as a guide as the instruction booklet isn’t brilliant. Mine came with the vinyl protector to cover the vent hole, basically a plastic shaped LP, works a treat. I keep mine in a sleeve to keep it clean.

As an occasional buyer of used vinyl I think I have been generally fortunate that my purchases have usually been as described by the seller. However I have had my fingers burnt 3 times in the last 12 months, to the value of around 150. Three albums, unplayable in their purchased condition. I’ve always thought that expensive vinyl cleaners are probably a waste of money but finally decided to take the plunge and invest 329 in this little beauty. It works. Vinyl that I wouldn’t put anywhere near a decent stylus again, is now reunited with my collection. As described in previous reviews it won’t remove scratches but will give your albums a great suction clean.
It’s very easy to assemble and use, just follow the instruction manual and remenber to get some distilled water ready for the arrival of your new machine. You will need it to dilute the cleaning solution (provided) before you start cleaning.

East to use and phenomenal suction. A worthwhile saving over the full sized machine and very satisfying to watch the fluid being sucked up. Recommended.

OK so it’s a bit pricey but it does a great job in cleaning vinyl. My collection has never sounded better!

Nicely designed machine that is pleasure to use. Make sure to use the clear plastic 12 inch disc when cleaning. This protects the record from the vacuum’s exhaust hole.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat little machine to clean your vinyl. It really does do a great job of making your vinyl sound better if they are dirty and if like me you have quite a few vinyl then it saves you bags of time.
The suction to dry them if very powerful and LOUD! I was surprised in how small the machine is. If you use the tried and tested kallax system to hold your vinyl then it slots in there very easily.
There is a slight design floor in that the exhaust is under the actual record you are cleaning so sends fumes on the underside which in turns leaves marks. Luckily they provide you with a plastic plate that the record sits on so that now protects your vinyl. I would recommend using this if you are cleaning 2 or more at a time.
It won’t do miracles in making heavily scratches wax suddenly sound amazing but if your records are just plain old dirty then it does perform magic

Like some other reviewers I considered the cheaper options but the reviews were mixed. Read reviews on the Pro-ject VC-E and the vast majority were very positive. Took the plunge and I am delighted. Fast delivery, quality feel, simple to get started and very easy to use. I have it next to my turntable so each LP gets cleaned prior to use and it takes moments. I took note, bought the proper water at the same time and used a small spray device to cover the record evenly rather than pouring it directly onto the record in an uneven manner. I am now working my way through those records I bought years ago which were “dodgy” and the difference is amazing. It cannot fix scratches but it makes a hell of a difference.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI finally took the plunge to buy one. Replaced a Spin Clean – does as it says put the Perspex disk on and the record! Clamp and apply the solution – wait a few minutes and vacuum off! Takes more than a few spins each way however I really wet my records! Works on new also! For me it’s worth every penny- it removes so much – except imperfections and scratches- the sound quality improved no end and the noise floor lowered! The vacuum suction is very powerful! And clean again if you need to!

    Works a treat !

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s pricey but it is excellent. It is so easy to use I have taught my 8 year old daughter to use it, however I didn’t find the instructions at all helpful but you tube was as brilliant as ever.
A must if you buy second hand records, I cleaned an old record that my mother in law gave me (sgt peppers) amd before cleaning it was almost unplayable but 2 minutes on the machine and it was a different story

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI’ve only had it a short time, but the results on some very old, grubby vinyl have been really good. One thing to mention though, in advance of it arriving, is don’t expect to walk to your local hardware shop and find the distilled water that you will need to mix with the small bottle of cleaning solution that it comes supplied with in order to properly use it straight away. Local shops have De-Ionised water, but that isn’t the same thing as it doesn’t remove the minerals and impurities. You will need to order distilled water in advance.

Very well engineered. It’s compact size, whilst retaining all functions, as well as very competitive price makes it an excellent choice.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersFirst things first – this is probably the best all in one record cleaner (motor and vacuum and all) at this price point, and it’s probably all the record cleaning machine you ever need. I went for this smaller version just because it fits neatly into an IKEA box for storage and I don’t have huge amounts of extra space.

The one flaw is the place of the air vent from the vacuum, it blows hot/humid air straight onto the underside of the record! The “optional” plastic disc they provide is really a “must-use” item if you clean more than one record in one session. This extra step creates a little more hassle, so things don’t run as easily as with more expensive gear.

It’ll still get those records mighty clean though. Probably the only machine you’ll ever need to buy unless you’re a professional record dealer. Worth having, and sooo much easier than those Spin-Clean or Knosti things.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersFirstly. thanks to Hifix for the prompt delivery. When put together (easy) machine worked as intended. Just watch you put the bottom plate on correctly with the countersink facing up! (nuff said).
I cleaned very old unplayable records and brand new ones as well! The old unplayable records still had clicks and bumps but were much, much better than before. The new record had all sorts of smoo in the groves from pressing and clicked constantly…not after cleaning on this bad boy it didn’t. Still a couple of clicks, but won’t be returning to Amazon.
Overall..don’t expect miracles, but this machine comes a close second!

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersI’ve been collecting Vinyl for more years than a care to remember and have tried just about every gadget on the Market: Anti-static machines, rotating brushes, felt pads (awful as it just rubs in the dirt) and even a liquid that you pour onto the vinyl and peel off once dry. All of these would not reliably cure a record that clicked an popped. For this reason I have had a policy to only buy new vinyl. Recently I decided to re-stock my classical records collection which had previously been discarded due to lack of space. Most replacements are, by necessity, second hand and I soon realised why I previously stopped buying used vinyl all those years before. I, therefore, had a browse around and found the Pro-ject V-CE and after looking at reviews on Amazon thought I’d give it a go. Absolutely fabulous, doesn’t clear all noise, for example scratches or pressing defects, but blimey I was amazed at the difference. I picked this model for the price point, but also the small footprint, as I don’t have a lot of room

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersDoes it clean records, yes it does a very well, but it doesn’t fix scratches. So if your records are scratched there’s nothing this machine will help with. It’s simple to use but would recommend getting a squeezee bottle so you can evenly put fluid onto your disk without it spilling. Put it somewhere it’s easy to get at so you get in the habit of using it each time you get a disk out to play. Clean a record each time you play it.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersA tremendous bit of kit, I had considered going for cheaper methods like a microfiber cloth and spray or the soap bath style of record cleaning and I was interested in the Pro-Ject record cleaning machines. I have the smaller version and to be honest I dont think for the extra 100 there is much need for the larger one for my needs.

I am delighted with it, very well built, it comes supplied with their own cleaning solution and a goat hair brush. The motor goes both ways and the suction on the vacuum arm is very strong and a record is totally dry after a couple of revolutions. The noise is tolerable, it is a vacuum after all so it would be quite impossible to have no noise at all. I have been cleaning a batch of records that I am going to be listening to before use so I dont have the noise of the machine when I am listening to records.

I got all of my dads records from the 60 and 70’s so all original presses and it is cleaning them up like they are brand new, there is not a pop or click to be heard playing it on my Rega Planer 8 with Aphetta 2 cartridge. When your stylus is 1K to renew and using original presses I felt that the 299 for the cleaner is a worthwhile investment to keep the records in good condition for as long as possible.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersI was slightly sceptical when I placed my order but how wrong I was! Cleans records incredibly well and quickly. A bit noisy but it is a vacuum cleaner so what do you expect. I buy a lot of vinyl from record fairs and this restores them to their best – even removing a lot of the static.
