Overall I like the tricycle, but the handle keeps sliding down no matter how much I try to tighten it. But my Granson loves it.

My 1 year old loves this! It was not difficult to put together. The handle is adjustable for height, my 6’3″ husband can easily push it around. I don’t regret buying this, but there is a few drawbacks.
    1. the seat leans slightly forward, I would prefer it to lean slightly back.
    2. The foot rest for babies is so close to his knees, it’s hard for him to bend his knees. so he hangs his little feet down.
    3. i’m not sure why but my son is always moving and sitting sideways in this and i have to adjust him because it doesn’t seem like a comfortable position, I assume it’s because he’s a large baby and this is kinda tight for him.
    4. the handle is adjustable, but I find that it slips down on its own after about 10 minutes or so, it’s not hard to pull it back up but that can be annoying for tall parents.

overall, my son loves this, it’s his new stroller. We don’t even use his regular one that much anymore. This is so much fun, he can look around and he feels like the bigger kids who are on their bikes. I like it, I was considering purchasing it as a gift but I think I will spend a bit more money for a higher end one instead.

    My son LOVES this !!

This takes two people to assemble. I do wish that the foot rest / peddle cover was a bit larger. The little one likes to put their feet down alongside it so that feet are dragging on the ground. But such a nice functional trike that will last a while.

We bought this for our 2-year-old, and although she was a bit hesitant at first, she loves it. Since it’s minus a million degrees and snow everywhere we’re just using it around the house and in the basement but it’s pretty fun. Won’t take more than 10 minutes to put together.

My son loves this but I wouldn’t say it’s that sturdy. When pushing him the front wheel part came completely out. My husband was able to retighten it but I’m wondering how well it’s made and if that will keep happening. Overall it was a good investment for now. We will see how it holds up.

Bought trike for my son for Xmas and he loves it. Love the rubber wheels, can be used indoors. Instructions are straightforward but needs a little extra tools. Very good quality for price. Only downside is footrest isn’t very convenient for 2 year olds still learning the idea of a pedal. Footrest either stays or completely taken off.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOnce again, just like the wagon we purchased several months ago, the quality is fantastic! The finish on the tricycle along with the wheels, etc were first rate! (… and no, I don’t have any stock in Radio Flyer! ( however maybe I should have!)

I wasn’t aware that the push bar actually changes the direction of the front wheel … nice surprise. After a while, the push bar was somewhat loose in the connection, however continued to work.

My Great grandson loves it almost as much as I do!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersIt is alright. The steering is tricky at times. The footrest is garbage though, if using for older babies/toddlers. We made a new footrest for it and it is perfect for us now! We do love this and was worth the buy. Just the original footrest isn’t ideal and I’m not sure what the logic to it was? We bought this when our son was 9M old and even then his legs looked uncomfortable with the footrest.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI went for this trike after a lot of research. My daughter is a tall 2 year old and I wanted something that would last a little longer. Not disappointed at all with this. Its lovely looking, adjusts easy, the parent steer is very good and it feels very sturdy. She absolutely adores it and have no doubt she will be using it for quite some time.
The only negative I have is the wheels. I just wish they were rubber and not plastic. I would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our Userssome of the negative reviews on Amazon really had me doubting this cute trike. But I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I find that most of the reviews are just nit.-picking at everything

I bought this for my nephew’s 1yr birthday gift and its great! he’s getting older now and this is a great way to introduce him to riding a bike!

We love going on walks in the afternoon and this trike has been such a pleasure on walks.

ASSEMBLY WAS EASY! – I was mind blown at how easy it is.

I think it took me about 30 – 40 minutes to assemble.

The box it comes in is just a plain brown box with no images and all the pieces are in the box with instructions.

If you are giving this as a gift, I suggest you assemble it first and stick a big bow on it or find a box big enough.

QUALITY – IS GOOD. I know some people were complaining about the tires being plastic, but I find that they tread well on grass, road, cement sidewalks. I did take it on dirt/ rocks as well and its also good. Though the gravel /rocks may damage the wheels, but that’s just normal wear and tear.

The wheels have some rubber on them for better traction.

ADULT STEERING is such a breeze. Its easy to maneuver around tight corners. I find zero wrong with it.

The frame of it is metal. There are other parts that are plastic.

    Not a cheap trike.

Canopy is lovely, I like that I can move it wherever I please.

I love that this stroller will turn into my nephews first trike!

The only thing I could see improvement on is the seat, I wish it were a little bigger.

Overall I am very satisfied! and looking forwards to getting much use out of it.

    THE BEST GIFT FOR NEPHEW

I used this product for my son who is now 18 months old. I like that the product can grow with my child. We can easily take it apart (with tools!) and move it wherever we go. What a great memory or the little red radio flyer trike. Hopefully, he has many years of life and many happy memories / pictures to look back on. My husband did mess up putting the seat on (his only job) we are still married but the buckle goes underneath the track of the seat. If not done properly the strap isnt as secure and that can make a parent uneasy. So look out for that.

I was expecting a higher quality product from this brand and worry a little about its durability since you can use this over several years for one child. We have used it a few times so far with our 1-year-old and it’s still in perfect condition, but it has a lot of years of use ahead of it yet. It seems to be made of cheap plastic and cheap fabric.

With that said, our daughter LOVES riding on her “bike” that we still have in the parent-pushing stage. She probably will not reach the pedals until she is about 2 even though she is tall, but she can rest her feet on the plastic footrest for now.

My biggest complaints are that my feet constantly hit the storage area when walking and even though I am only 5’7″, I feel like i have to bend over to push the “bike” as the push bar doesn’t appear to be adjustable.

Still happy with my purchase for the price, but would’ve hoped for a slightly higher quality product.

My 24 month old is so in love with his new bike!!! It is so smooth and easy to steer one handed (while backpack carrying a 2 month old!)
*I do have two complaints, I wish the seat could adjust foward and back with a squeeze button of some sort but the two screws have to be removed to adjust.
Next they cannot peddle with the grey foot rest in place. When we go on family walks we use the footrest otherwise he pedals around and I have to remove it multiple times a day

  53. OuhoutiYjb says:

Got this for our 1yr old daughter for her birthday and she loves it! She’s 14 months now, we have used it many times and now her legs are too long and she ends up putting them straight out instead of down on the foot holders but that’s ok. She kind of likes the feeling of the peddles hitting her feet as we walk. If I had to suggest 4 design changes (and this may change your mind in buying this specific one) 1. Correct the directional lag in the steering vs. when the wheel turns. There is about a 40 degree difference between you turning the handle and when the wheel actually turns and it can get annoying for sure. 2. Make the handle longer for taller people, my husband is 6ft and it’s a bit too short for his comfort but he still manages. 3. Make the handle bar more secure! When you raise it up and “lock it” in place, it often slides back down and it’s so slight and slow that you don’t realize it until about 20 mins into your walk when suddenly something doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t truly LOCK into place, so that needs to be fixed. It tightens to “secure” it at the upper level (there are two levels for the handle bar) but that loosens as you walk, go over bumps etc…. 4. Make the seat with a non-slip pad on it! The plastic is slippery and my 1yr old often slides off to the sides or down the front because of the lack of grip on the seat. Luckily it has the safety bar around the sides and such so she doesn’t actually slide off and yes it does have a buckle too but still, we have to often stop and readjust her little self on it so she’s not so uncomfortable. I’m not sure I would buy this exact one again. But our daughter does love it, despite the design flaws.

I want to give this thing full stars, but unfortunately there a few things holding it back from perfect. My kid loves it, but the handle to push him is where most of the problems lie. The handle loosens over time causing a lot of “play” when you turn. Not a big deal when the kid is tiny, but once he starts pushing on the handlebars or pedals with his feet, it feels like you’re trying to reel in a shark while rolling down the road. In addition, the mechanism that tightens and holds the telescoping aspect of the parent’s handle loosens to a point that it doesn’t stay out when walking. I’m 6’1″ and I find that I have to adjust the length of the handle every 100 yards or while walking. I haven’t found a way to renew the integrity of this with home maintenance. That said, my toddler asks for rides a lot, and we get a lot of compliments on it. It looks very cute going down the road. Can’t wait for my son to start pedaling on his own…I think…

    Pros:

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had the classic tricycle for my 1st kid, but found that it didn’t come as natural as I would have hoped for him. The torque it took to move the wheel on the classic, was a bit difficult, and tricky to figure out without some frustration. I picked up this 4 in 1 for my 1 year old. She instantly loved it, and wanted to climb into the seat. We haven’t transitioned out of the stroll mode yet, but i can tell it will grow with her as she progresses. The stroller grip for the adult actually controls and turns the handle bar for the child. This is great for maneuvering around, but also signals to the child that turning isn’t just something that happens, but something you take control of yourself. The pedals have a mechanism where you can engage, or disengage their ability to pedal, or spin freely. You would use the free spin mode when you’re still pushing them, and then lock the pedals in when they are ready to figure out pedaling for them selves. The whole thing was easy and intuitive to build. The stroller bar Has a bit of play when turning, but is otherwise fine. I would buy this again.

We can easily do the 5 min walk to shop on it. He loves sitting on it and being pushed. Parent handle has a bit of play in it which I find slightly irritating but doesn’t affect function. Nice metal frame. Accessories are plastic (drinks holder, toy box etc) which I wasn’t expecting and reduces durability and quality a little bit. Was very easy to assemble out of the box, and the parts are very high quality. It’s a mix of metal and plastic parts, no fitment issues and very straight forward to assemble. The wheels are made of plastic but seem to turn and get traction just fine. Not very hard to pedal.

  73. Deanna69Wvp says:

This is a great trike. Our Grandson is getting to the point of almost being able to peddle now.

  74. Sophie Lester says:

     United Kingdom

There are so many trikes out there so it is always hard to decide which ones are better. This one is appealing as it has a few bonuses including the fact that you an use it in different stages – from when you child is sitting all the way to independent riding, it has a small trailer to see items in on the back and a sun shade.
The sun shade is okay, but could be a bit bigger but other than this the quality is good, and the bike itself is weighty – which may pose an issue for independent use but I think provides more stability to stop it from tipping over.
My biggest criticism of this was that assembly was quite hard – I had great difficulty fitting the back wheels on and at some point just gave up! It required brute force and a large mallet in the end and I don’t think you can un-assemble it for transport or storage. Bear in mind this company is not based in the UK so if you contact them for advice it can take time and any spare parts would have to be sent from overseas.

Once done however the trike does look nice and the wheels move well, the parent handles to push and control could be a bit longer and I feel angled a bit more but they do work well enough.

The only complaint I have is it seems to be a bit different in the steering of the unit, but over all that just took us time to get to use too. I LOVE this product. It was the cheapest I could find anywhere online and in stores. A great dependable unit to transport your little ones in…. fun all around. Not disappointed one bit.
I give it a 5 Star as my review. *****

    * 1 star (Nope, DO NOT LIKE IT AT ALL!): I would either return or throw away this product. It was a waste of my money and not functional. I will never order again.
** 2 star (Think twice before buying – don’t like it): I’m not a fan of this item and I won’t order it again, but it has at least one positive quality.
*** 3 star (It’s ok): This item has both positive and negative qualities. It may work for some people, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase or recommend it.
**** 4 star (I like it): This item arrived and functions as advertised. I would change a few things about this (including pricing), but is a good product overall. I would use this item.
***** 5 star (I love it!): This item is AWESOME. I will use it and recommend it to others! I just LOVE it! It works as advertised and is an all-around great product.

All of my reviews are written with the hope of helping other Amazon customers make the right buying decisions for themselves. To help increase awareness of a particular product it might be positive or negative, but in the end it is honest. Thank you for reading my review. I hope it has helped you. I will be happy to answer any questions if that might help you make your decision. Have a great day.

I think this is a brilliant idea, kids toys like this can be costly so having one that develops with them is amazing. The trike feels really sturdy and well made, and doesn’t seem to be too complicated to put together. As mentioned by other reviews there are some brilliant details in the trike. I’m really impressed with this.

I really like things like this which grow with your child. They’re so quick to grow out of things, and it’s brilliant to find something with some longevity. Primarily made of metal, this feels well made. It was easy to follow the instructions and put it together, and I can see no problem in adjusting it in the future. The handles are a good height for pushing, and can be adjusted based on the height of whoever is doing the pushing. Well thought out, good looks, longevity – one of the best examples of it’s type that I’ve come across. Recommended.

Radio flyer are seared in my British consciousness as the brand of the little red wagon iconically featured in movies especially those set in the 40s,50s and 60s as ever present toys in the likes of A Christmas Story (ok maybe not THE must have toy in that but still it’s featured in the toy display!) and such and so has a sense of nostalgia and tenacity to the brand. This little convertible trike taking in the likes of Smart Trike and such does not disappoint and certainly lives up to the expectations of quality.

The trike itself is sturdy and robust, being more metal than competitors we have considered for our two and the seat is certainly solid and strong enough to bear the weight of an average 5 year old. The little add ons of cup holder and effective canopy are a really fun and handy aspect. Though it is important to know that unless slight, older children won’t necessarily be able to ride along on the back board as it won’t bear their weight sadly- a missed opportunity from the brand especially for siblings.

Importantly for our family it’s a nice comfortable trike for children who are a little small for their age.
My 18 month old is about the size of the average child at the bottom end of user range and she can sit fabulously in this seat well supported round the hips which is what I would like in a product for that age range particularly and glad she gets it a bit longer being little for her age. In comparison some of her peers who are more sturdily built wouldn’t have been comfortable in this seat at the same size, in fact a toddler friend who is a couple of months younger but is densely built like a rugby player compared to my fairy waif cannot happily fit in the support seat but isn’t confident enough to sit without the added support. So it’s important to work with the size and development of your child as to what stage they can access.
My 4 year old is on the upper age range but could fit in the second stage if she wanted, but obviously she wants a little more independence, switching between the styles is a bit fiddly and not exactly ideal when out and about but isn’t unachievable if you are determined and your child has the patience to wait.

Before trying this out I wouldn’t have bought this especially for a child heading towards the upper end of the age/size range but for a younger child in the first or second it’s a great idea, however my eldest thinks the trike is absolutely brilliant and would happily be the sole owner of it more so than her balance bike or police car. I would also work with personality, my eldest would’ve loved this at the same age as her sister but my youngest is a bit more clingy and only likes short spells in it before wanting back in her travel system or being carried.

Overall it’s worth the extra money compared to the other brands we looked at, I wish I’d seen this for my first at this age as it would certainly have suited her well.

The bike itself is excellent. To use it from a small baby all the way up to a trike for 4 or 5 year olds is great. My 3 year old son has recently started learning to use the pedals and this has been perfect for him. My only complaint is that the screws for the seat and also the handlebars wasn’t very well fit so didn’t grip or fit well therefore I had to use some of my own. Otherwise this would have gotten 5 stars from me.

    Love this trike.

Its great for the very little ones right up to the “not so little” stage and it is easy to adjust and adapt at the appropriate time. The trike itself feels very sturdy and is easy to control in the early stages and the little man seems to love it!

Only real negative is that the initial assembly took us a bit longer than we thought it would – but we are no experts in assembling and I am sure that most “normal” people will crack this without too much hassle.

The versatility of this 4-in-1 trike is incredible. Providing a fun way to travel from as little as 9 months, and then the perfect eductions in using a bicycle up to the age of 5 years. The 3 point harness is excellent, and very easy to adjust for varying ages.
Straight out of the box there is a fair amount of construction required, and will take you around half an hour, but once together it is incredible sturdy, and very attractive.
Priced at 90 at the time of review, this versatile trike is superb value for money, and would be the perfect Christmas or birthday gift for any child.

This tricycle is surprisingly good and robust. The slick red paintwork sparkles and although it takes around 45 minutes or so to assemble the tricycle which comes in a snug box perfect to wrap up for christmas, For the price, this is certainly a decent product that’s highly recommended. There’s a lot of customisation with the handles and various parts of the trike that means when it says its designed for 18 months to 5 years, its not lying.

The added inclusion of a cup holder at the front is certainly a good addition too. Overall, there isn’t much else I can say that other reviewers haven’t already mentioned. This is a decent trike and for the price, its well worth the investment.

Not many toys will suit a baby, through toddler, to big kid but the Radio Flyer does! From 9 months to 5 years – and sturdy enough to last.

This took me about 50 minutes to build – not too tricky and the instructions were simple to follow.

Tested with my 2 grandsons aged nearly 2 and nearly 4 – both enjoyed playing with and the Radio Flyer seemed up to their level of energy! Not quite so sure about granny when the older one took off at speed!

I would recommend this as a great Christmas or 1st birthday present as it will give years of use.

Testing with the handles I was particularly impressed with the handle heights – as my family are tall and other similar products give me back ache.

    Highly recommended product.

This four-for-the-price-of-one trike is a great idea, spanning from under 1 to 5 years old in one good value package- it’s a definite cost saver.

The fact it’s predominantly metal, rather than plastic, means that even if it gets four solid years of bashing and crashing, it should still last the course. Time may prove me wrong but I can’t see any weak points that are too likely to give up the ghost before this trike’s lifespan is supposed to come to an end. The quality is also pretty clear when it’s being ridden- it rolls smoothly, more like a proper bike, rather than that squeaking and rattling nervous plastic sound you get from cheap ride-on stuff.

Our youngest was 2 years old when this trike arrived, officially between stage 2 ‘Push’ and stage 3 ‘Learn’, and he was able to adapt to the stage 3 set-up very easily. We build the stage 1 and stage 2 configurations to see what they were like anyway and they were pretty impressive, almost like little mini-prams and quite fun- I wish we’d had this 18 months earlier!

Building it took a fair amount of time despite clear instructions- it’s probably better not to have an impatient child waiting to try it when you open the box for the first time- and swapping between the stages is a little bit fiddly too. if you’ve got 2 kids, don’t expect that you can switch back and forth between configurations every time they start saying “it’s my turn!”, you’ll quickly drive yourself mad if you try that- but when your child’s old enough to go up a level- or at least to try going up a level- then it’s painless enough to switch.

If your child’s near the bottom end of the age range for this trike, then I’d definitely recommend this. Yes there are cheaper options but this is a good long-term investment.

This trike has been a big hit in our house. Our youngest is four, but our friends have younger children and they have enjoyed playing on the trike as well. It is easy enough to switch from one setting to another, with only a bit of fiddling required to add, remove, or adjust the push handle, which is great when different children across different age brackets and ability levels are using the bike.

Our four year-old has been able to pedal and steer the trike without any difficulty, even managing tight corners with ease. The trike is sturdy and well-balanced, with a little storage compartment in back to hold little bits and bobs. It quickly became his new favorite thing in the house! He’ll be sad when he has outgrown it, but thankfully that won’t be for another year.

The initial assembly was quick and simple, taking about 15 minutes or so. The instructions were clear and all the appropriate pieces included.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOur grandson is 9 months old, the perfect age to start on this trike. But first it needs a lot of assembly, see the photo. There are 27 steps to go through and it took at least an hour. What was particularly useful was a small socket set – that really helped when tightening bolts through the sturdy metal frame. It all went OK with one quite important exception: step 10 of the assembly clearly shows a sleeve with an allen key bolt to fix the handlebars to the tube coming up from the front wheel. I was supplied something different and inferior, a bolt with a hexagonal nut instead (see the photo). That meant it was really difficult trying to keep the sleeve low against the frame (as the instructions insist) while tightening the nut. There is no way you can do that with a socket around the nut. In the end I took quite a lot of time tightening it one sixth of a turn at a time with a mole wrench. I got it quite tight in the end but am not confident it will last without coming loose. So I thought I’d email Radio Flyer to get them to send the correct part. Can’t! Their website has no email but does have an online form to order a missing part – but only if you live in the USA or Canada! If you live anywhere else the only way of contacting them I can find is a US phone number (or there are Danish and German numbers). I’ll try phoning sometime, allowing for the time difference, but it’s not very customer friendly.

In use the trike, with all bits fitted, is a success with our grandson so far and he sits in it easily. He can’t quite reach the footrests yet but likes being pushed around the apartment as well as outside. When he’s a bit bigger I’m sure it will be a great hit, with him assisting in the steering then later again pedalling. It won’t be difficult taking bits off as he grows. Meanwhile the fact that the adult push handles turn the front wheels makes it very manoeuvrable. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the correct part for the steering column from Radio Flyer.

Update: Radio Flyer in Chicago were very efficient at sending me the correct part for fixing the front handlebars in place so I’ve added a star. Companies that react well when there’s a mistake are to be valued…

I’ve trialled this in the ‘learn to ride’ form with my two-year old daughter, and it’s proving to be a massive hit. She’s taken to it far more enthusiastically than her balance bike and scooter, and it’s now constantly requested whenever we’re heading outside. The build quality is superb, and I’m expecting this will be in full service as a ride-alone trike in the next year or so. It’s a good mix of durable materials that appear to be well-chosen.

My eldest daughter had a Schwinn trike – very similar-looking to the ‘final form’ of the Radio Flyer – but it proved too heavy for her to really get to grips with when she was the right size for it. There’s no such issue with the Radio Flyer as it’s considerably lighter and easier to manage.

What a great little trike, growing with the child from 9 months, where the pedals are foot rests, it turns into a push trike, then into a pedal trike, and with the removable “baby” items, of the canopy and push handle, it becomes a little trike they can ride alone.

Nice and sturdy, we were worried it looked a little plastic, but it’s very well made. Our grandson loves it.

The wheels are “quiet” ride tyres – but not sure what this meant, just sounded like bike tyres on the path when it was tested ou

Our (almost) three year-old grandson has fitted in around halfway through the age group for this very useful trike. He is able to ride it and steer it too, but the parental control handle is also essential when it is being used near any main roads, as he is far from being traffic-savvy yet. Nice and solid, but not too heavy for him, I suspect it might be a stretch for much younger or smaller riders though. The fact that it can be used from nine months old up to five years makes it a real bargain. So many others are not designed to last for so long, and even with his third birthday approaching, our little man will get more than two years of use from his new trike.

This trike is surprisingly versatile. It is aimed at children between 18 months and 5 years old. The level of containment and cover can be altered depending on their age. So the canopy, adult handle, and a plastic retaining loop around the child can all be dispensed with as the child gets older and more capable. Also the seat can be repositioned into one of three positions, so it can continue to be usable as legs get longer.

It was mostly quite straight forward to put together. The instructions are mostly quite clear. The only nuisance was fitting the rear wheels. You have to hammer on retaining piece which is tricky to do because the other end of the rod has to be pushed up into the wheel at the same time. So if you turn the trike on its side, the rod is too low to fix the retaining piece. I had to use the handle of a tool to press the rod against while I hammered against the other side. Even then it was a hassle. My only other gripe about putting it together was the clamping mechanism for the handlebars seemed to be less tight that I would have wanted.

Despite these DIY gripes, overall it seems to be quite a solid and well made trike. I note that there is a small trunk at the back with a warning that it will break if trodden on. I think it is only a matter of time before exactly that happens.

Most importantly, my son loves zooming around in it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve already got a Smart Trike for my eldest which is very similar to this one but clocks in at about 20-30 cheaper so I was interested to see the why the big difference in price.

The first difference I noted is that my Smart Trike is predominantly plastic with only the frame really being metal while this is mainly metal and as a result it just feels much sturdier and harder wearing. There is also a plethora of extra’s such as a snack and bottle holder and a much better canopy/hood.

Another much better feature is that the push handle on this one are adjustable which is a big plus point for me as my wife and I are very different heights and I find the Smart Trike handle is too low down but have no such problems with this one.

On arrival there is some assembly involved and you will need some basic tools such as a screwdriver and spanner but the whole thing only took about 15 minutes to put together.

there are so many different combinations for this trike that it will easily last my youngest through from the age of 1 up to about 5. He can be strapped in with the detachable safety bar in place so it can just be used as a push along and as he gets older you can remove the safety bar, remove the canopy, change the steering from free wheeling to handlebar controlled and from push powered to pedal powered.

Eventually you’ll remove the push handles too and at it ‘s most basic stripped down combination you have a fully functioning pedal powered trike which should coincide with the age your little one will be looking at moving onto a standard bicycle.

When I got my original Smart Trike for my eldest I was a little wary of spending the best part of 100 on something that might be outgrown so quickly but i’m glad I did. No single toy has lasted my eldest as long as her trike and that’s why I didn’t hesitate to get another for my youngest and this one is definitely an improvement over the more basic Smart Trike

Excellent product in that it’s a stroller and trike all in one. Beautifully designed, it looks well crafted when put together and is surprisingly lightweight. It comes with an Allan key to put it together but you may need a spanner also. That’s not to suggest that it’s difficult to assemble as even for a novice like me, it’s fairly easy. The handle is easy to adjust, which is also great for a shorty like me when pushing your beloved along. It’s surprisingly light to push and feels like you’re gliding along. You also feel, crucially, that your child is safe and secure when strapped in, (for the youngest rider!) and the straps are not fiddly. Also, unlike some strollers, you won’t catch your delicate hands on awful plastic fasteners which I have had horrible experiencess with! This is a brilliant product and will make trips out with your little ones that much easier, more fun and less stressful!

This Radio Flyer 812A 4-in-1 Trike is cleverly designed to grow with your 9 month to 5 year old and the suggested “development path” is;9-18 months as a trike-stroller; 18-24 months as a push-trike; 2-3 years as a learning-trike and then 3-5 years as a “self managed” ride-on.

The immediate “out of the box” impression is of a well made product which is built around a steel frame with decent quality plastic mouldings. The trike comes supplied with accessories such as a UV resistant canopy and harness etc. Some self assembly is required and should take most people around 30 minutes following the clear mainly visual instructions – you need a screwdriver, spanner and although a hammer is suggested I’d substitute a rubber headed mallet. The only other tool necessary is an Allen Key which is supplied.

The trike feels sturdy (but not heavy) and stable, I also like the fact that it’s quiet thanks to the “quiet ride” rubber tyres. The seat looks comfortable features a sturdy bar around the rider which also features a 2 snack compartments – this can be removed as your child grows. There’s also a bottle holder which fits inside the safety bar but because it’s fitted to the handlebar stem it can be retained when you remove the safety bar. In addition, there’s a lidded storage compartment between the back wheels.

The push along handles are comfortable and adjustable so should be high enough even if you are reasonably tall – when an adult is pushing the trike cleverly the handles steer the front wheel. Over the life of the trike you can remove the canopy, handles, safety band and the top of the seat and harness. There are foldout footrests to use until the rider is ready to use the pedals.

This afternoon the twins have been playing with this trike and they love it. As a stroller the trike is easy to manoeuvre but it’s equally good for them to gain confidence on and work towards complete independence in their triking career. I suspect for the time being this will be a hybrid between being adult powered and when there’s a surplus of energy power will come from the young rider. The design seems to have been very cleverly thought out and I think given its long projected lifespan this is a good value toy – we like it a lot.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersMy 13 months old son loves it and trys to steer it as soon as he get on the trike. It keeps him occupied while we are walking. I like the new model comes with the foot rest so I don’t need to worry about his feet hang around and hit the pedal.

The overall setup time is okay, very easy to follow the instructions. Before I made this purchase, I checked out other trike models and some complained that parts are hard to put together and it is not the case for this one. Every part falls exactly as it suppose to be. I think it is an indication of good product quality.

However there are a few unpleasant flaws,
#1 the parent steering handle can be made higher, even at the highest, I feel it is a bit short for me. FYI I’m 5’7″, and I’d say anyone taller than 6′ would feel uncomfortable to use it.
#2 the parent steering handle is difficult to use, I have to consistently adjust to keep the trike moving straight which makes my wrist tired after a long walk.
#3 it takes a lot space in the trunk since the steering handle cannot be fold (can only be shorten)
