Wanted a poe doorbell rather than the typical wireless rubbish to reduce the latency along with running power and network over the same cable. Worked fine for 3 months and but it is now stuck in setup mode after an automatic update. Knowledge base and chat are not overly helpful.
*update* don’t bother with knowledge base or chat if you have a firmware issue. Ring the support line and a new one will be shipped out if they can’t fix it after a couple of diagnostic tests.
It’s wonderful to get great service from Outlet Prices Direct a top Amazon seller!
Ordered this Ring Elite Video Door Bell for my daughter & it’s definitely worth the extra costfrom other models
POE allows the power to travel down the cat 7 cable so no batteries need changing or changing
Permanent connection to router means no signal loss so crisp images all the time
Highly recommend this product & selle
Upgraded to the Ring Doorbell Elite after owing a Ring Pro for a few years. The Ring Pro was good however owing to Wi-Fi it wasn’t particulary reliable with signal drop outs etc. When I saw the Elite supported PoE I decided to upgrade. Fitting the doorbell isn’t easy as you need to carve a hole in your external brickwork however the end result is a beautiful doorbell sitting flush against the wall. Now it’s hardwired via ethernet the doorbell is far more reliable. Also no need to wire in 24v transformers etc. Best doorbell on the market currently.
This is most definitely the best of the current crop of Ring video doorbells. The motion alerts are faster due to the greater bandwidth and reduced latency over PoE. Image quality is improved when using an Ethernet connection, with none of the glitching audio and video experienced on the Wi-Fi only versions. Highly recommended.
The Elite is an excellent upgrade on the Ring 2 video doorbell. It was expensive but with constant POE no more changing batteries or lag in receiving notifications. The motion detection customizeable zone is also a big improvement as shadows from passing cars would set my old Ring 2 off but this should solve it. Elite also has a constantly lit white light around the bell button which is a nice feature and also draws attention to it being there to dissuade unwanted visitors. This then turns blue after being pressed like other Ring doorbells. Audio and video are clear and night vision is good too. All in all it’s worth the money to upgrade as long as you can fit it yourself as this could be costly…routing cables and knocking a hole in your wall is required. I decided to run 2 ethernet cables to the junction box just in case one ever fails as it was a task to route them. The orange one is the supplied cable and is working fine with just that.
Let me say at the outset that the price — 520 — being advertised here on Amazon is rather elevated and I’m sorry to say that I didn’t buy my elite on Amazon. I don’t think I would be prepared to pay this price. I bought it much more cheaply elsewhere.
This elite doorbell takes a little bit more installation than the others because it doesn’t fit flush, you have to make a recess to your brickwork or wooden door post for it to fit into. Once this is done however, the rest is pretty straightforward although you will want to fit a neat looking plastic conduit to take the Internet cable back to your router. Of course the whole thing can work with Wi-Fi but it will be better if it is wired.
Setup was extremely easy and I have it linked to a Chime Pro which produces a doorbell sound or other notification sound elsewhere in the house.
The whole thing can be controlled by a smart phone from wherever in the world you might be and you can set it up to give you audible alerts that there has been some motion disturbance or that somebody has run at your doorbell. If you want you can even talk to them remotely — although I haven’t tried this and I don’t know what kind of lag there is.
You can set the areas within which motion is detected — but I still find that it is a little oversensitive and unfortunately the motion sensitivity can only be set in discrete steps — rather than by fine adjustment. I suppose that this is one of my main criticisms. The other criticism is that in order to store any videos you need a subscription with Elite — although for one camera only this is pretty cheap. It would be nice if there was a facility to allow you to avoid the subscription and have videos download directly onto your own NAS or onto your own cloud service. I suppose that Elite have got to make their money somehow.
The support from Elite seems to be excellent. I needed a new UK plug for my Chime Pro and one telephone call resulted in one being sent to me all the way from the States free of charge and arriving in UK only five or six days later. Quite amazing.
So, so far — no complaints. Very impressed but as I say, I think that the price advertised here is overpriced — probably by one third or more.
The other Elite units which are being sold by Amazon seem to be more in line with what is going elsewhere.
This awesome device not only does a great job as a doorbell but also makes an excellent security camera with its 160 degree field of view with adjustable recoding zones. It’s stylish while also being discreet and provides excellent image quality. The elite with wired connection means no Wi-fi is needed and with 4G on my phone provides excellent image quality even when away from home. I can’t fault it.
Having struggled with intermittent Wi-Fi connections to our front door, I was glad to find the Ring Elite doorbell Camera with I.R. detection and super High Quality Video recording, more than meets my expectations. Connection and Power over the provided Ethernet Cable is excellent, and the Wi-Fi problem is now history.
