When i plugged it in first time around, it was apparently ‘not class compliant’ and my laptop wouldn’t recognize the device.
I tried a better cable, the one i use for my old snowball (which the rode completely shows up in quality) and works perfectly, plug and play.
Cable is bad but the microphone is actually on a whole nother level from the snowball i was using, awesome.
Absolutely great little mic ,takes up very little desk space, very small so easy to store away when not in use and it sounds amazing! Would recommend this, it’s great !
I got a chance to try this item prior to my order being delivered. It looks nice, feels nice, but sounds nasally and unclear. I didn’t like it in comparison to other microphones out there (i.e. it’s very own parent, the RDE NT, and the Audio Technica AT2020USB+); I cancelled my order based on this.
I bought the Rode for use on Zoom and eventually also for vlogging and podcasts. It replaced a Philips SBC ME570 microphone that was far too quiet. When asked to unmute and speak on Zoom, I would often be asked to “speak up” because people couldn’t hear me. I would move my Philips mic to one inch from my lips and people would then say “that’s better”, meaning the volume was acceptable, though with no pop shield I myself could hear the plosives. The Rode has a built-in pop shield, which works, a volume control, and a knob to adjust the balance between the mic itself and other sound on the computer. These all work well and the sound quality is full-bodied and accurate. There is no need to load drivers or otherwise faff around: just plug in the USB to my Macbook Pro, plug in my headphones to the socket on the Rode mic, and everything goes well on Zoom. The stand is useless: a light plastic tripod. On the first day, I found myself tipping the mic over numerous times, first by knocking it slightly and later by just doing something on another part of the desk. The mic is really heavy, so it needs a solid heavy stand. Don’t let that put you off buying it, though, because for very little more you can replace the stand with a Samson SAMD5 Desktop Microphone Stand, which fits perfectly, holds the mic at the right height, does not scratch your desk, and does not move because it is very heavy and fitted with a ring that grabs the surface beneath. You can even deliberately knock the stand and it will not budge a millimeter, let alone tip over. For me, this is a perfect combination.
Good microphone but …The description says – very low noise ( noise cancellation option exist etc ..) I don’t see any noise cancellation – I have a lot of noise when I do voice recording and it is difficult and time consuming to try to remove it every time when I try to record something. Very disappointing – for this price my expectations was higher. I believe that cheaper microphone will do the same job.
Made the leap to get an actual decent mic and chose this one, works exactly as i need and the quality is also up there, if you need a USB mic that isn’t some “cheapo stuff” and don’t mind paying a premium, pick this one, the rode NT performs well
I like this microphone a lot. It has a great cardiod pattern, rich bass and treble and makes me sound great when speaking into it. I know this isn’t a unique feature, but I really like the headphone jack with the dial for listening to yourself or to your desktop audio, and the sound quality is really amazing. The packaging was pretty great, and it comes with an included pop filter which, to my surprise, was actually really great and filters out almost all of the air coming from the air-ey letters. I don’t if the stand is good since I mounted it to a Rode PSA1, but it doesn’t look like it has any rubber on the bottom, which isn’t that great. I also think it looks good, with a little LED light on the inside to tell if it’s on, but unlike a few other microphones. It isn’t too bright. 150 isn’t cheap, however for the price I think it’s brilliant. It’s also very good at not picking up background noise thanks to it being cardiod. I recommend this to anyone looking for a microphone for any reason, whether it be voice chat, podcasting, broadcasting, music, ect.
Decent mic, it’s very small but tbh the sound quality isn’t a patch on the larger Rode NT-USB – I have bought two of them!
I’ve spent many months deliberating on a new microphone having wasted far too many hours fiddling with analogue jack microphones. I only needed this for video calls for both work and social so I didn’t want to go down the more expensive route of XLR mics with a separate USB interface but I wanted something better than the poor one on the webcam I had. I’d looked at dozens of ‘cheap’ (40) USB ones from China but was never really convinced I wouldn’t be disappointed. When I saw this on a YouTube video I immediately recognised the RDE brand as a quality brand. It looked simple but good quality. Not cheap, but then you get what you pay for.
I’ve only had this a few hours but it’s already clear it’s great quality, very simple to use (just plugged it in on Windows 10 with the supplied USB cable) and clearly a well made quality item (it’s HEAVY!). The first work call I went on people immediately noticed the quality. Very happy with my purchase, I expect these to be out of stock in no time once word gets out so if you want one, get one quick!
I purchased this as a replacement for my 2012 Blue Yeti mic which sadly passed away last week. However it was always a good thing as I was looking for an excuse to buy this. And I love it!
A little hesitant at first believing I would lose finer control over my sound which the Yeti allows. But this captures sounds wonderfully. I mainly use it to record acoustic guitar, vocals, and readings. It always acts well as a mic for discord and gaming. Everyone says I come through clear which is brilliant.
Would highly recommend especially for the ease of use and price.
5*
Bought it as a birthday gift and son is more than happy with it. Brilliant quality and good sound recording. Literally just plug and use.
Absolutely brilliant. Iv been using this microphone for recording radio shows with the aid of a program called Voicemeeter so I can mix music with chat and this as been very successful and very good studio like sound. I love the dial on the side of the microphone which you can set between all mic or all pc. This is very useful for reducing latency and IV managed to set it just right to hear the music and my voice with very little latency.
I love this device. The sound is amazing, eliminate background noise, no lag, crisp and perfect.
The body is compact, versatile and build with the filter. USB-C is obviosly advantages.
I’m quite impressed! I bought it for my iPad gig (Cubasis etc.), which I tend to use in different rooms, and in the future I plan to take with me during holidays. I have a small plastic box for all the iPad accessories: cables, headphones, dongle, USB hub etc. Because of its dimensions and shape, this mic nicely fits into it!
As for the sound, I own the NT1-A, and to my ears they sound very similar. Some online reviews say they’re not the same, which is understandable, because they’re differently shaped mics. There are sacrifices made in order to produce such a small mic. But I’d say you probably want to sacrifice the same response curve for the small footprint and mobility. Additionally, I use it mainly to create new ideas, not the final versions of songs. It’s more than perfect for this use.
The mic feels very robust and is heavy. When I plugged it into my iPad, its gain was just right from the start, and I never felt a need to tweak it. The experience is totally plug and play. It plays really well channel strip of Cubasis: the default noise gate and compressor settings. It connects to my iPad Pro (2017) via 1. powered Atolla USB hub and 2. lightning to USB camera adapter.
To Rode: there is a huge market behind the iOS musicians community. I think this is a perfect mike for “on the go”, but until I actually tried it, I had doubts. I think you should market it as such, make more “on the go” videos, show how to use it with an iPad, how to pack it to backpack and carry around.. Your potential buyers are really looking for this type of information.
Don’t know why they cheap out on the headphone jack when that’s the most important thing have it mounted to an arm on the table one drop and that jack is done for. Also seems to have a low hum in the background when plugged into a computer which is rather annoying to have and the fact that you only have a month for returns or exchanges baffles me. I advise going onto Rode and a filling out there form to get warranty.
I bought this primarily to use while I’m calling into meetings with team-mates while working from home during the covid-19 pandemic.
Coupled with the RDE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm (to keep the microphone fairly near my mouth) and a good pair of headphones to monitor in real time, this has allowed me to actively engage in the meetings without worrying that I’m transmitting noise or that I’m unable to be heard clearly.
This was plug-and-play with a Debian Linux-based system. No additional drivers were required.
Good build quality. Compact and so can be easily positioned with either a boom or on a desk. Great sound quality. Value for money.
This Rode microphone is beautifully made and delivers an excellent tonal range. I use it for voice-overs on my videos. Based on this, I have just bought a Rode NTG 2 shotgun microphone, which is also brilliant.
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this as it’s so new that there’s very little info about it on the net, but I’m glad I gave it a chance! The build of the microphone is nice – got a good weight to it and feels solid and compact. Clever magnetic base and appears to have some kind of suspension inside as desk noises aren’t too prevalent when resting.
But most importantly it SOUNDS good. Well balanced, and clear, with a decently low noise floor. It’s perhaps not as ‘smooth’ as some microphones, but if you’re the kind of person to notice you probably wouldn’t be looking at a USB microphone.
The USB aspect is great too – just plug it in and iff you go!
Definitely recommended and would buy again. Rode has delivered as usual!
I like how easily it fits in the rode psa1 mic arm and how clean they look together I also used it as a desktop mic before that and it worked just as well, great mix for the price and easy to use and set up.
I am a professional voiceover artist and use this microphone to record in my home studio. It’s very easy to set up, use and is high-quality.
This thing is the business! I do voice-overs and narrate a lot of videos (and do YouTube etc) and this is my Mic of choice. And not that expensive
Bought for my daughter who uses it all the time. Sound quality is great. She still cant sing so it wont help there but she loves i
i must say this microphone is as good as it gets for USB quality work perfect on discord and in game sounds 10 times better than my previous microphone
I bought this microphone to replace my ageing Blue Snowball iCE that had served me for a couple of years. This microphone is a perfect replacement as it records in cardioid meaning that it doesn’t really pick up a lot of background noise but that does mean that you need to keep it fairly close to your mouth to get a very loud and clear recording. The audio on it sounds really clean and it’s very nice to see a pop filter included right off the bat but if you are purchasing this microphone with a shock mount bundle then you will need to find a different pop filter as the one included won’t fit. Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase.
Have used this for a few weeks now and I’m very impressed, the sound quality is fantastic the lead provided is so long I wonder who would actually need i
Rode mics are always good, this one is no exception it has a very low noise floor and the simple plug and play ability means it’s easy to use.
Incredible mic, using this for streaming and recording as my old one had a lot of reverb, would recommend for any streamer/recorder well worth spending a little bit more on the quality and really happy I purchased this
One of the best microphones for pretty much any task, Streaming a game or making your own song, It has the sound levels to do it, But for a lot, lot , less you can have a tiny worser quality and save yourself 100
I am using the Rde NT-USB microphone for recording some of my published work as audio books. I am completely satisfied with ease of use, tone, and sensitivity. The long USB cable is a practical and welcome addition.
Sound quality is excellent
Plug and Play via a nice long USB cable
Pop shield works really well
Build quality is fantastic, very stable on the desk.
3.5mm headphone jack is useful for monitoring.
Mostly use it for Voice overs in FCPX and Davinci Resolve 16.
Very clear audio
Highly recommended
It is pretty good. I use it to record commentary for my YouTube channel and it is very good perhaps too good, It can pick background noise. So you need a quite room.
Brilliant mic particularly for my needs as a voiceover artist setting up a home studio. Great sound quality, easy to use, portable if you need it to be. I would advise making sure you have a quality set of headphones to really appreciate the abilities of this microphone.
Brilliant sound quality, easy to use with the USB lead. Can be a little unstable on the stand sometimes, I’ve had to adjust to a less comfortable sitting position when using to ensure it doesn’t overbalance.
Really impressed with the rode NT usb microphone, I stuck with rode after purchasing the radio mic a few months ago, the sound quality is fantastic, great clear professional sound, love the headphone jack on the mic and the Professional feel and look is great, a well built mic and a great quality sound is all I need and I now have tha
Input levels very low to the point you have to do some windows 10 trickery to have it work well, I personally think it needs a lower stand too
No complaints about this mic, if you want a decent quality usb mic then this fits the bill.
Great sound quality for a USB mic.
I was replacing my blue yeti and I gotta say the Rode sound quality is much better than my old mic. Feels robust and cancels very well the background noises.
I would of probably not bought this, I would of went for an XLR Microphone, but since I rushed in to buying it, it’s good quality for the price and if you’re starting off.
I have owned a blue yeti and an audio technica mic before the rode, and I must stay the rode is the best one so far!
It comes with a little tripod, foam and a pop filter to stop breath crackling the recordings.
I use the mic for recording my voice as I make videos for youtube, mostly video gaming related.
And recording while playing a game gave issues with my previous mics as it picked up the keyboard, even tough the audio technica and blue yeti have settings for directional sound, they didn’t work as good as the rode, where the sound isn’t even heard while playing!
Overal a fantastic mic for voice recording, doing voice overers or livestreaming.
I’ve had no issue with setting up the microphone what so ever. Installation was quick and easy.
Sound quality is fantastic and it definitely lives up to the reviews I’ve seen.
Stand is convenient for desktop and doesn’t take much room. It might be a little too heavy. (Easy to tip over.)
I only ever had trouble with Skype and sounding ‘far away’ every now and again. Skype had a lot of problems with my last microphone too so I don’t blame the microphone.
I love this mike, Its the best mike i’ve ever owned. I have a home studio and just being able to plug it into the my Mac with the usb connector takes out all the bother of analog connectors and jack plugs, pre amps ect.
For its quality and price, highly recommended for the home studio!
I highly rate Rode products I use Rode microphones with my various DSLR Cameras so when I saw the Rode NT-USB I just wanted it for my Laptop. I am not disappointed with the sound quality, the dynamic range and fidelity. The performance of this microphone is perfection to my voice and it looks awesome at the same time with its black almost sexy design and pop filter. The 6-meter cable supplied is of high quality but much too long for a simple desktop installation so I ordered a high-quality 1-meter cable with gold plated connectors off Amazon. If you plan on using this as a desktop microphone or even on a boom arm it might be worth considering the purchase of a cable length that better suits your needs.
Been using the Rode NT-USB for a couple of years now and it’s superb. Excellent sound reproduction that does mean you need to be in a super-quiet location to use it without background noise. But in the right environment… it’s awesome. I use it for video voiceover, SKYPE calls, Loom etc and it just performs whatever I throw at it. I added an angle-poise style Mic holder that brings the usability up a notch from the supplied desktop stand. Add to all that the versatility offered via USB and you’re laughing (not too load though, else it’ll pick it up!).
I really like this mic, and it has been a significant step up for the quality of the video tutorials that I do. However, it’s important to note that this is a cardoid mic, so it will pick up a lot of background noise. If you are working in a fairly quiet space, then it is absolutely excellent. However, if you have a bit of background noise, then I would recommend that you look into the Samson Q9U or any other Dynamic USB microphone. I myself had only realised the importance of shuffling background noise after I bought this excellent mic, as my recording space is unfortunately my kitchen, where the mic picks up the fridge on the other side of the room.
Update: I have a new studio space which isn’t my kitchen, and this is my preferred mic when I wish to capture more emotion. I have since acquired two dynamics mics – ATR2100 that I use as my daily driver and a Rode Podmic with a USB interface. Compared to those two mics, the sound of the NT-USB is much warmer, livelier and more full spectrum. It’s less bassy than the Dynamic mics.
I have children and I hear the occasional car passing in front of my window, so in my case for most instances I still prefer dynamic mics due to the inherent noise rejection.
The only missing feature is gain level knob on the mic.
Yet, once again, if you have an acoustically treated room, and a fairly quiet ambience, then this is a great plug and play mic.
I create videos for Youtube and have a LIVE stream every week. The Rode NT-USB was an amazing upgrade from my budget microphone. The only thing missing would be a switch to mute the NT-USB, but you can get round this with a small application, so you can mute by pressing a button on your keyboard. All in all, very happy, so much so that I bought a Rode VideoMic Pro + for my Canon.
I just got the mic, I will try to update this once I get a good grip of it in the future. So far the only downside if I can call it like that was the packeting, it came just with the rode box itself and only a plastic bag on top, which was kind of worn out. And the box itself as you can see on the pics looks like a little pressed on the corner.
Overall the mic works great, it’s very sensitive and for a USB mic does the job
I’ve had my Rode mic for a few years now, and what a workhorse! I’m a voiceover artist and podcast host, and it’s just perfect. Easy to use, produces a great sound for my voice. Very happy with this product.
I don’t know it other cheaper ones are as good as this one. I am not impressed with this. The recorded sounds feel a bit distant however close you speak into.
I am really pleased with the quality of this mic.
My favourite mic is a Neumann – however, for price and need, this is actually a really good piece of kit. Happy girl I am.
The Microphone itself looks fantastic especially compared to other microphones with it’s matte finish and pop filter. Connect: It was super easy to connect it, i plugged in the usb cable and went to the control pannel. Clicked on sound and went into the section called recording, then i choosed RODE NT-USB and then it was ready for discord, games etc.
The sound: The sound by it is so clear and sounds like your actual voice. Like you hear it how it is IRL. The only thing i don’t like about it, is that the mic SUPER SENSITIVE. The thing i did to comprehend it, was to only trigger the sound in discord for a certain level of db. In discord my mic will not pick up the sound of my keyboard. 9.5 out of then, the only thing i don’t like is how sensitiv it is.
I bought this as an upgrade to my Ice Snowball USB mic. It’s a vast improvement in every respect and is akin to that of a studio quality mic in terms of sound quality and build but nowhere near as expensive. I use it for voice recording and the sound quality is great with both bass and clarity but without picking up much in the way of background noise. This is a brilliant piece of kit and an absolute bargain. Highly recommended!
This is the best sounding USB microphone that I’ve ever used. I bought it for when I’m travelling and I don’t want to bring my audio interface with me – this is perfect as it has a built in audio interface. I thought I’d just be using it for guide vocals etc, but the quality is so good that I’ve actually ended up using it to record the final lead vocal on more than one occasion. Great mic for a great price. Love that it comes with a pop shield too.
High quality audio and compatible with aux and usb stand is a bit flimsy and pop shield works very well.
This microphone is worth every penny I paid for it. I mainly use this microphone for communicating with friends on my PC and sometimes recording but the quality of the microphone is outstanding for whatever use you may need it for may it be singing or just doing voice overs or podcast i would highly recommend this microphone to anyone. I bought a boom arm to go with it and it just makes your lie so east being able to just drag it to where you need it.
Really good, clear professional sound. Great for podcasting.
The reason why it’s not a perfect score is it has been having some issues with my IMAC…after it worked fine. But maybe it’s all about resetting and reinstalling…
I didn’t want to have to use a mic with a complicated means of connecting it to my pc. It has a wonderful warm tone and is perfect. I am so pleased.
I started a podcast and having looked at the microphone landscape this had great feedback and so did the Yeti Blue Microphones Yeti USB Microphone, Blackout . I bought both, kept both and they lived up to their positive reviews and didn’t disappoint. Having said that, the Rode is just a bit superior to the Yeti in sound quality.
I’m a professional author, and I purchased one of these as part of a general workplace tidy up to avoid wearing a headset all the time while I dictate using Dragon Naturally Speaking. I was previously using a high quality headset that cost about the same, so I wasn’t expecting a big increase in recording quality, but I got one anyway! For me the proof of the pudding is the noticeable increase in my dictation accuracy, and that is down to this microphone. I pair it with the R0DE boom arm clamped to my desk, which works really well.
I had been using a Blue Snowball for the past year & decided to treat myself to an upgrade. Whilst the Snowball was a very good all around microphone, the RDE NT microphone is in a different league.
The audio is so crisp & my voice comes through much better than I though ever possible with a USB microphone. The build quality is exceptional & you know from the moment you open the box that you’re after buying a quality product.
The leather look pouch that accompanies it is really nice as well & the extra long cable means you have no worries about moving it if needed.
Crispy sound. Easy to use. Fair price.
Rode is always my go-to if someone asks which mic.brand to get. I have this as my studio mic, and I have a small travel-sized mic. for my camera, also Rode, and I’m really satisfied with both. Rode NT-USB Microphone
An absolutely amazing microphone. Its packaging was absolutely beautiful and plugging it into my laptop and making some of my songs has been the most fun I’ve had in years. It’s easy to set up, easy to take apart and pack away and it’s easy to store. 100% one of my favourite purchases in the last few years.
(I’m using this for podcasting, so voice only)
Does an excellent job of picking up voice, even if you’re pitching low & quiet. Also quite good at picking up the cat wandering into the room and complaining, so background noise can be an issue.
So far so good. I got a replacement as on the first one, one of the buttons came off. Its important to note it’s only designed in Australia, but made in China and it shows.
I love this microphone, I’m going to use this for Live Streaming and let me tell You, No messing around with filters to make Your mic sound better ever again as this sounds perfect right out of the box just plug it in and get going perfectly for YouTube, Streaming anything for that matter. Recommended 100%
I went from a standard headset microphone to this.
I will never go back to headset mic ever.. The quality on this is amazing. Just want I wanted.
I got this with a RDE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm
This is awesome, to have at the side of me.. I use the standard pop filter that comes with the mic. Its all great quality.
I use this for Discord/Teamspeak/Streaming. Recommend this mic.
Excellent product, perfect for voiceovers and hassle free recordingon an ipad. I’ve not A/B’d it with my ribbon mic but it didn’t sound harsh like the very early Rode mics. The mix control for direct monitor and playback is ideal for multitracking. Much easier than a software control. Do note if using an ipad the gain can be set manually with an app like Audioshare
My daughter lived it, it fulfilled her expectation in some extent, whoever buys never get disappointed , it`s good value for money too.
Mic is great. The clip holding it snapped after just a couple months.
UPDATE: Rode had a new spare part shipped out to me under warranty in just 2 days!
This really is professional quality which is great for sound quality BUT it will pick up a pin dropping or a car passing by on the road if you do not adjust properly. I use for voice recordings and overall am delighted and would recommend.
Great microphone for podcasts. The integrated stand and pop-filter are great. Sound is very good, although I prefer my NT2-A with a good preamp/ADC (which would be more expensive and fiddly to use). For overall ease of setup, use and quality of results I, can’t recommend the NT-USB highly enough.
Oh my this mic is sooooo good! I have used it to record voiceovers for a friends radio station in the U.S. and they loved and raved about the quality of sound.
The direct monitoring facility is very useful and not found on some mics that are more expensive than this. I honestly don’t think any USB mic up to 200 will beat this, it’s silky smooth and rich sounding. Nice weight to it, not as portable as some mics but the sound quality is worth the trade-off.
Perfect for podcasting, voiceover and best of all it is bus powered by the iPad. All that together with those striking looks, whats not to love?
Very good microphone. USB mic’s have a bad rep but that was a few years ago. They have progressed leaps and bounds over the past couple of years and this is equally as good as any condenser mic. Good clarity and range on the usb 1 to usb2 lead is pretty good. Now using it as my main recording microphone for podcasts and other projects. Not tried enough vocals through it to comment but I would assume it’s up to the job.
Great sound quality – with the convenience of USB connectivity. Solid construction and supplied with a matching pop filter that performs well. I think I’ll need to invest in a shock cable as it picks up transmitted bumps etc.
perfect for everything. I use it when I am chilling with friends on discord. It picks up my microphone in csgo really well so I can spam those ruskis. It is good enough for a sound studio but I do go into a sound treated room for that.
The quality of this microphone is nothing short of outstanding. Combined with a shock mount and a spring arm the quality of the sound on my stream has gone up a hundred-fold and viewers immediately commented on it. As a USB mic it requires no other hardware. I use it with the mic about 4-5 inches from my mouth usually and combine it with a VST filter set to add a compressor, limiter, EQ and fur filter to remove any background noise and clean up the sound – and with the quality of the input, I find they’re not doing a lot, so the sound is very crisp and clean.
Single best improvement i’ve made to the stream in a long time, definitely worth the jump if you’re using something like a Snowball (or worse, a headset mic).
Would be nice to have a master volume or gain control on the unit rather than having to set levels in each app but apart from that it is working fine.
This is a direct challenger for the Blu Yeti.
I consider it a little better though as instead of 3 little diaphrams it has 1 large one.
I’m no expert in microphones but from my experience with both, I like this more.
Not only is this microphone a lot smaller and lighter, but it also comes with a built in Pop Filter!
This pop filter also takes very little space.
I did have some problem with it a few months later and had to return but that may also be my computer as it would no longer see the microphone.
I still believe this is arguably the best microphone for this price range and probably challenges a lot more expensive microphones.
This is an astonishingly good piece of kit for the price. Plug it in to a computer and it just works, no need for any other additional kit whatsoever. It’s a hefty mic, comes with a very long cable and a stand, all very well made. The included dedicated pop shield does its job perfectly and the sound quality is very impressive indeed. If you’re looking to make high quality recordings for no hassle and at a very reasonable price, I have no hesitation in recommending one of these.
I receive the parcel the next day. About the microphone, its really easy to set up and whenever i plug-in my laptop, it always detect it right away. Im using logic pro and garage band and don’t have any problem with it. Only, when ever i have lots of tracks/plug-ins, there will be latency occur. But its bearable =)
been using this microphone on my boom arm for about a week now for gaming videos voice recordings and it has been a joy to use.
positives:
-I like the function that allows the monitoring volumes to be changed between the mic output and the PC output
-Very very easy to set up, out the box screwed onto my boom arm then plugged in, worked perfectly
-perfect for gaming videos (what I have been using it for), voice overs and pod casts
negatives:
-Not the most versatile mic however if you are getting it simply for jobs that need just cardioid functionality then its grea
great quality microphone, have used it for several years now however the mounting hardware is far too weak for the weight of the microphone itself and broke within a couple of years of use I recommend getting some reinforced hardware for it if you plan on using it with a boom arm as the strain on the join between the ring mount and the brass threaded portion is intense
I cant praise this mic more, it is just wonderful. I simply plugged it in and started recording on Windows 7 {others here say it is the same with all windows versions and Mac}. I make screen cast videos and it is perfect. Voice is rock solid and clear, it didnt pick up my computer fans and the sound was pure.
The build quality is the best I have ever seen, it is just a fantastic value mic, I would have given it ten stars If I could lol
I really like this. Good solid microphone and easy to set up. Quality for the price seems pretty good so far too. Slightly flimsy cover. Also, but a small point, the box is well protected for transit but is quite big relative to microphone and accessories.
I use it to record voiceover for training products. It does this job well enough – especially as my recordings are only ever used as alpha versions. The recording would not be good enough for the final version. I used it once to record a professional singer, and was not impressed with the quality. I am not a professional audio technician, so it could have been set up better perhaps, but I have used the Rode M3 for the same and it was way better. If you are just doing You-tube and podcasts, it does the job well and is good value for a USB mic – which is why it gets 4 stars.
As a product its build quality and finish is actually excellent and I really couldn’t be happier! It’s light weight and really portable – I’ve recorded voiceovers, close harmony, acapella, choral music and pop songs using it and it is fully equipt to do all of it. Especially as a beginner it’s a great little microphone to purchase.
The thing I was most impressed and shocked was with the versatility of the microphone. I am able to use it with Logic Pro X on the Mac, my Android Samsung phone and my iPad!
Great buy, highly recommend.
The product is amazing… It can pick up my voice further than it says on the packaging and ignore people about the stand being too small… it is a perfect size… it did take me a few minutes to work out the way the stand had to be facing but in the end it worked really well… It has an extremely long cable which is perfect because my microphone is really far away from where it is meant to be… I would highly suggest this product… it also comes with a bag for it if you are interested to know haha… but if you are looking for the perfect USB microphone you should get this… don’t buy cheap because you will buy twice. The only thing i can say is that it was a little bigger than what i thought it would be but it is not too big…
Over the years I’ve spent thousands of pounds on mics for doing webcasting, including the Rode Podcaster and the Blue Yeti and this is the best one there is. It provides great external noise suppression as well as fitting snugly in front of my mouth on the desk. If I lost it I’d buy another without question.
Really is an excellent mic. Couldn’t decide between this and the Blue Yeti for a long time. I listened to some samples on YouTube and was really impressed by the quality of this and I’m delighted I chose this one and not the other. After a few weeks I also bought the Rode boom arm and it really makes it a tidy set-up. If you can afford it, I’d really recommend both.
I’ve been using this microphone now for 2 weeks and it is a sublime piece of kit. I do radio plays and audio narrations, and with only a little bit of EQ to boost the bass levels, this mic sounds like a professional microphone. A real bargain. Worked right away on my old Mac Pro with Reaper. I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Bought the PSA microphone arm as well, which while a little pricey is definitely worth it.
All I’m going to say is I watched “LinusTechTips’s Video” of this Microphone and wanted it…
Amazing Microphone, Very clear as “Twitch: Streamer House – http://www.twitch.tv/streamerhouse” have told me it is as well as plenty of controls to adjust the microphone settings and the goodies you get with it also (The Microphone)..
Must Buy…$$$$

A really well built microphone, with an equally impressive sound. Very precise with almost inaudible back ground noise.
The built in pre-amp is doing a fine job here.
The USB interface was instantly recognised by Windows10, The headphone monitoring jack has proved itself in live recording. You will have to enable this from the Control Panel, see Hardware and Sound.
Is there a negative, well the supplied stand is a bit feeble. You must budget for a decent one.
All in all an excellent buy. Thoroughly recommended.
Perfect, save some money on audio interface for my small home studio 🙂
I didnt use the include desk stand, but mounted to RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount
Only concern was on the threads on the mic, it was slipping and unable to tight fully to the mount. Then had to wrap tape on the thread to avoid slipping.
Like all Rhode products this is a great usb mic for the price. I have used a Samsung for years which has been great and this is a
great compliment to that both simply plug in and play , but extra contols on the Rhode and a slight edge on recording quality
make this a great broadcast mike. I personally use it for vocal/guitar but obviously its range is wide enough for all aspects of
recording output.
Fantastic microphone. Bought this for my girlfriend who is a professional musician, just for home recording and I must say that I’m impressed. The sound that is recorded is top notch, and true to the microphone’s design, it’s very manageable in terms of recording direction. The bypass feature is great so one can play over a track, whilst actively monitoring and recording a new one. Highly recommended and worth the price.
Pleasantly surprised is the best way to describe this product.
I have been doing video game reviews on Youtube for a while now and whilst I later began to use a shotgun mic connected to a Tascam DR40 via XLR input, it became a lot easier for me to just simply use a Turtle Beach USB-based gaming headset to record them instead due to not having to convert the signal and transfer the files (something you’d think wasn’t that big a deal until you consider that you have to play the game, write the script, record the footage, record the voice-over and edit the whole package), and bearing in mind some of the videos were an almost an hour long documentary. The Turtle Beach had a lot of background noise for every recording I did and though I also have a Blue Yeti, I was never satisfied with the sound of my voice on that particular device. Cue me getting mightily sick of having to edit out the background noise for every video, and eventually happening upon the NT-USB which is in my view an incredible piece of kit.
The sound is really quite incredible given its price and also given that it’s connected via USB – no need to covert the signal for it’s all done inside the device. Happy days!
I’d describe the sound as mellow though quite pronounced compared to other mics I have used in the past. If you’re looking for a mic that accentuates your voice, then this is the one for you. On top of this it also has incredible low noise capabilities (something I found was sorely lacking in the Blue Yeti), a really long lead – which I’d rather have than one that was too short, a stand and a pop filter. It’s also incredibly well packaged and made of solid metal construction as you would expect from Rode.
Beautiful product, really solid and feels heavy in the hand, robust and well made.
Easy to set up, performs superbly with my Macbook, and running flawlessly with Audition and Garage Band.
Only minor issue would be better instructional advice would have been nice, many companies now load a training video on to youtube, that would have been useful with this product to get the most out of it faster, but that said i really really like this product.
Good piece of equipment if you’re an audiophile and like to hear exactly what you are playing like. Did not give it 5 Star because of the price and the unnecessary long cable. You can watch a video I am using it here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGI03CkGBgU
I was in need of a new microphone after my blue snowball starting to make some clip sounds wich you cannot get rid off so I decided to purchase this microphone and it’s in my opinion the best microphone out there for its price, I absolutely love this microphone and after buying this I don’t think ill buy a mic off of a different company again. Rode is the best compant to buy a Microphone from! Buy this Mic!
Not only is the price amazing for this product but the product itself is fantastic. Its not surprising really considering Rode is behind the Mic. I Have previously tried the blue snowball which didn’t even work, the blue Yeti which was okay but problematic and the Editors Keys sl150 which had horrible artificial lows. They all failed me in some way or another. I needed a professional standard USB microphone for voiceovers. I thought it looked ugly at first but removing it from the box today was an eye opener it is a beautiful mic which doesn’t feel cheap at all. The quality is so clear and crisp it is unreal for a USB microphone. If you have the money PLEASE buy this mic not others.
