Coming from a blue yeti, the voice quality is an upgrade. The only thing missing for me would be a dedicated mute button although that is a preference.
Amazing build quality. Great all-purpose mic. Straight digital output into the PC, great for monitoring with the inbuilt aux port. Didn’t pick up background noise. Highly recommended.
Got this to replace an ageing end address Rode Podcaster.
The sound quality when recording via Adobe Audition is warm, and the built-in pop filter works better than my old pop filter, even though it’s a less dense mesh.
For gaming and communication, it’s best to keep close to the mic for better sound quality, but the mic will pick up well and effectively from up to a half a metre away. Any further would be a problem for most mics.
While this model has a shockmount available, it hasn’t felt necessary when using the mic on an arm mount. If it was going on a straight stand, that would be a different matter.
Highly recommended!
I re-recorded several lectures using this — can’t believe how much better they sound now that I have use this microphone rather than the built-in one on my computer. It has a much richer sound. It is it basically plug and play — just chose this from the drop-down menu and it worked instantly.
I also tried using it with dictation on my MacBook Pro. I thought that the dictation app was a bit wobbly but using this microphone it is vastly better — I think it’s just detecting the voice more clearly than the built-in microphone hence the improvement in the quality of the dictation. Absolutely delighted with it. Wish I’d bought one years ago.
You plug it in, it works. No delay when screen recording that you have to adjust for, no picking up interference from phones, no short cable restricting its placement.
When I was researching mics I was concerned to see that some people had trouble with this one in terms of compatibility with Windows 10. I decided to buy it anyway to try it and it works like a dream – on my system at least – so just to reassure anyone who might be having the same doubts I was. It sounds absolutely fantastic and I’m so pleased with this purchase.
So i loved this product it crisp and clear and with 0 issues granted cable bit longer then expected but it worth it at the end
It’s easy to set up and start recording. I bought it upon recommendation for voice recording hypnotherapy audios at home, and I’m very pleased with it. There are two volume controls and when using headphones (purchased separately) I can listen to the backing music separately while speaking and thereby get the pace right. This saves times later when I add that piece of music to the audio track. I like that it has a long cable so that you can position your computer away from the mic while recording so as not to pick up the hum of the pc. It comes with a pop shield which is very effective. Really happy with my purchase.
I read a lot of reviews and settled on this one. Glad I did. Good, clear voice recording. Doesn’t pick up much fan noise from the computer. I can leave it on the desk and speak ‘normally’. Really heavy little thing. Use headphones or you will get feedback, but I think that applies to all mikes. I’m happy with this one and glad I bought it.
High quality microphone from Rode – sounds amazing and really does make huge difference to my voice overs on my videos. Build quality is excellent. I did but the optional desk stand to give it some more hight – the supplied one is fine but was a but short for me.
Works well for the most part. The software that comes with it doesn’t appear to work with some conferencing apps very well but changing it to just use the default hardware input option does appear to work really well. It does have a fairly bright light to indicate the mode on the front that is really annoying – I ended up using blue tack to cover it over as it’s distracting
Was hunting for a microphone for podcasting, as recording via Zoom wasn’t great sound quality on my mac. The ease of use of the RODE USB Mini is fantastic – just plug in and go. The quality of voice is great and you can hear the audio by plugging in headphones to the mic. Through the headphones it sounds like every bit of sound is picked up, whereas in reality it’s much less, which is good. Now use this for work Skype calls and it’s equally as great.
It is OK, and the headphone port is useful for some online meetings where echos occur. Sound quality is similar to less expensive designs and I expected something a little closer to their other designs.
Really good mic. I love. The fact that you have a knob where you can hear the sound that comes from the computer or just your own voice. I sing a lot and go high pitched I’m not using an interface and this mic does the job with the amount of condensers that it has. Will fully recommend. Also doesnt pick any of the sound coming from the headphones and the voce sounds clea
So got this because my Rode NT-USB had a few problems, being wire was always loose , kept getting popping sounds and static ( tried everything to fix it )
Finally it stand broke.
So bought the Rode NT-USB MINI , Half the price so much smaller already works better, can use in my windows 10 laptop and my android phone.
Will recommend to any one who new to podcasting or YouTube but wants allot better sound than cheap microphone but don’t want to spend over 100
I like the microphone it’s clear loud and doesn’t pick up loads of back ground noise so it’s perfect for me. I mean as a usb mic it’s probably the best your going to get. Happy with mine comes with table mount if you wanted I went for a boom arm by rode too.
There isn’t software for it or anything you do it all in the windows options which I was kinda expecting more from rode but it works fine so I can’t moan.
I owned a lot of MIC’s in my life. This one by far is the best mic for this price range. Way better then YETI
I got this because I needed a second rodent on my desk 🙂 this also happens to be a really good sounding mic in-fact the best I have owned it works great with Discord and Skype it comes with a really long usb cable which I replaced straight away with a shorter braided cable, it installed automatically on windows login and only needed changing to default mic in windows sound settings and it workers right away. My discord group recognised the difference in sound quality straight away, I bought the rhode mic boom stand and shock mount with built in pop filter, now I can be heard even if I need to move away from the mic unlike my old blue snowball ice mic which I needed to be right over the mic to be heard clearly. Overall a good purchase that looks great looming over my monitor at the side ready to be quickly moved into position at a moments notice.
Good Mic but there ought to have been more accessories included (spares) considering the hundreds of pounds spent with the rode arm bundle as well
Other than that I’m satisfied
This microphone has amazing sound quality, we do video streams and the sound is clear and crisper than our cheap microphones, every penny goes towards that quality. I love that it has its own pop filter guard and its own stand is a nice touch. My only problem with the microphone is that there are 2 volume controls on this microphone and you would assume that one is for the headphone jack volume and the other to turn down the microphone volume to lower or raise for your project, but nope, altering the input audio has to be done by finding its volume control on your PC or Laptop. The volume knob you assume would do this is actually to change whether you want to hear your computer more or your mic more, which may be useful for some but in our case is not what we needed.
Very good product for the price, no complaints replacing my faulty condensor mic. Attached this to my Rode swivel arm and works a treat.
One of the best purchases I have made for 2021. Sound quality is amazing – almost studio like. Good for gaming, podcast, zoom calls, teams calls, voice over recordings, etc. Has built in volume control which comes very handy at times you don’t want to shuffle around with mouse or keyboard. If you have a usb-c adapter then works well with iPad too, for the on-the-go podcasts.
Worth your money, if any other brands I could look at it would be Shure, but their mic is way too expensive and out of the 150 range.
Sound from this microphone is top quality. No background noise and the nuance of the voice captured very well. Because the digital to analogue facility is built in there is no need for a separate DAC box. Altogether a good buy for making videos from the desktop. Not really practical as a mobile mic because of its design. The stand supplied is pretty lousy and not up to the quality of the microphone itself.
This is an absolutely great mic. It can pick up vocals brilliantly, instrumentals even better, and deals with background noise well enough with a good software noise gate.
Just one tip here though, it’s so sensitive to USB noise! Partially because it’s that good a mic, it’s the one thing you can notice, but you can notice it a lot! Don’t stick it in a hub, and probably not your front panel PC USB ports either.
Great bit of kit, nice clear audio, great sound quality, using for video voiceovers and it’s perfect. Also great for zoom/Teams calls as clear audio makes a huge difference
I love it! It’s my favourite tool just now. I realise my flat is not as soundproof as I thought because it picks up so much. The sound quality is amazing and it feels like a very robust bit of equipment. There’s some great padding in the box which will be great, repurposed, for soundproofing.
Clear sound and works well. I use for Discord and the odd streaming and I’ve not had any complaints about people not being able to hear me properly unlike other microphones I have used in the past.
I do recommend this microphone if you want a USB microphone
** I am adding this note to my review. After using it for a while, I realise there is a problem with the headphone socket. It does not firmly grip the plug and so it can easily just fall out – and has done several times. When I search the net for this it seems this is a common fault. So – to avoid a problem, I have to tape it in or cable tie it. It’s a small thing but very annoying. I’ve tried various 3.5mm plugs & headphones – but they all fall out under the slightest pressure. I’ve dropped it one star for that. **
I spent a lot of time researching USB mics. My use is fairly simple – I wanted to significantly improve the audio quality of Skype and Microsoft Teams meetings I was leading on a Windows laptop and Apple iMac. This does that very well. With the mic close (4/5 inches) it sounds deep, rich and broadcast quality. I tend to have it about 14″ away. Obviously, it is not quite so good at that distance for voiceover or broadcast quality applications. For online meetings, the quality further away is still significantly better than other onboard or cheaper USB mics. Anybody using it for recording work may be a little disappointed it has no gain control – but the auto setting works very well. I have used it for voiceover work and was pleased with the results.I have also used this for recording onto an iPhone (using an adapter) with great results. On all devices, it is plug-and-play (no drivers or software needed). I mention that because my laptop is owned by a corporate that prevents downloading anything. Windows instantly recognised this device and auto-configured the laptop to use this for mic input and sound output.
Bought for ameteur recordings, but a very proffesional great quality mic %100 happy
I like everything about the product it’s sturdy, sleek arms perfect for my voice over work.
Mic quality is quite good too according to guys on the other side of zoom call
For someone who likes to sing, having a good microphone is a must. I’m not a professional singer though but hearing yourself sing using a good mic that you can setup easily with you iphone or even your laptop is a great experience entirely. If you’re not into fine tuning etc and just want to use a mic right out of the box with minimal controls on volumes etc but would still sound great regardless, then this mic is for you.
Bought this for my sone for Christmas,he loves it. Bigger than expected. Has It set up on a bracket on his desk. Using for gaming
Solid product with great build quality.
Great packaging means it’s safe to have delivered.
Simple to use- plug and play.
Can tell a massive difference from using iMacs internal microphone.
It had been 10 years since I owned a USB mic. I was apprehensive as what I remembered from the first generation of pro USB mics was high-noise, lag and sync issues, no matter how powerful the computer. They’ve certainly come a long way from what I remember. This mic is excellent and way outperforms its XLR counterpart, the Rode NT1A. I had been using the NT1A quite religiously for vocal work but this totally outclasses it. It sounds clearer and more punchy. It also does a great job of eliminating background noise and unwanted sounds in a way that the NT1A simply doesn’t. I am converted. Much better than I expected.
The first thing to notice when you get it out of the box, is the build quality is very good.
On connection to the PC, via a USB C (plus point) was trouble free. The thing to note is that on connection there are two references; one is for the microphone and the other is the audio out (via the headphone socket).
In use, plenty of volume from the microphone on the desk when speaking at about 2 feet away and is nice and clear without any changes in the windows settings. You can use a mic stand if you want and you don’t need a pop filter as it is built in to the microphone.
Good value for the money.
Few technical probs setting up to work with Ableton 10 (you have to allow permissions for microphone in settings). Once set up, awesome. I use it to lay down rough vocal ideas for tracks I’m working on, and I like the in built monitoring, but this mic would also be great for podcasts etc. Very nice neat set up on my desk. Getting good results thus fa
The quality of sound is really good. I had 40% uptake on my video recordings after investing in this microphone, really pleased with it.
After looking at the accumulative cost of getting an XLR mic + interface etc, I decided to just get this USB mic after seeing the recommendations on YouTube, and I’m definitely happy with the result.
Physically, everything is well constructed and feel solid and of high quality. I was a bit miffed by the excessively large packaging it came in though. Pretty sure it could be cut by 1/3 to a half with some sensible packaging design. The foam packing definitely kept the mic safe at an overkill level.
I’m no audiophile so I can only say, I can notice the differences in sound quality vs my 30 desk mic. That said it could be a result of me spending a bit more time to set it up correctly software side, with reduced gain at the OS level.
It’s definitely better at reducing the noise level, again – perhaps due to my altered gain settings. That said it definitely still picks up my mouse and keyboard sounds, which isn’t really that big of a problem for me.
I also think it’s more sensitive to the S’s than my old mic, but this could be a direct result of having to be physically closer to the mic due to the reduced gain.
At least the bundled pop filter works a charm with the Pah sounds!
I was surprised by how useful the zero latency monitoring is, with access to the desktop audio at the same time. This allows me to hear myself clearly whilst playing games at the same time, without the short delay that I get from OBS, making it super hard to continue speaking.
The downside is this is pre-mixed monitoring, so I can’t hear my compressor, limiter and EQ at work. To be fair, as someone who’s just starting out with streaming, I don’t think it’s a deal breaker. Any hardware solution would probably cost as much minus the mic – so it ends up being a nice bonus for me.
One criticism I have is its compatibility with the PSM1 shock mount – which I’d expected full compatibility with. The pop filter’s attachment to the base of the mic is at an angle, which means it can’t go on the shock mount without turning the mic at an angle. Even after that, the filter ends up being pressed against one of the shock mount’s supports, which could introduce scratches if I accidentally move / twist the filter.
The bigger problem is that the shock mount limits access to the monitoring dials, where the dials are blocked by the shock mount’s metal. If the filter was symmetrically attached and goes further out from the mic – it would solve this problem entirely.
I suspect the same issue would occur with any shock mounts of similar designs, so the limitation is more strictly to the mic’s design. Sadly I don’t see any obvious fixes besides elongating the entire microphone to raise the dials.
I’ve not used the table stand that came with the mic, which is a comparatively cheap bit of plastic against the quality metal of the mic. It seems silly that the stand took up as much room in the box as the mic, when I’ve got much better constructed fold-able metal ones from my cheap mic.
All in all I’m very happy with my purchase as someone just starting out with streaming, and can’t afford all the bells and whistles of XLR mics.
I bought the USB mic as I needed the convenience of setting up in different locations. I’d actually say that the sound quality is better on this than my other mics using the Rode Podcaster as it picks up the sounds far better from different angles.
Fantastic purchase, especially as I was looking for a microphone for it’s versatility and reputatio
Its reasonably designed, so the eye-candy is ok. The main part it works, and well!
Having used RDE in the past for camera microphones, I decided to upgrade my home studio mic to them too and have been very happy with the NT-USB.
Firstly and most importantly, it sounds great. Crystal clear in fact. The mic sounds very well balanced through highs, mids and lows with nowhere sounding washed out at all.
Secondly, the aesthetic of this mic is very appealing and works nicely with the rest of my setup and can blend in well with virtually any.
Packaging is very good, pop filter feels very premium and definitely does a great job.
Great quality USB microphone. I use it for Video Conferences and voice over work.
I got this microphone based on a recommendation from a friend who is a filmmaker. It’s perfect for voiceovers with excellent sound quality. Just keep in mind it’s quite big and you have to be close to it… if you plan on making videos with it.
This is a seriously good bit of kit. I am a professional broadcaster and having this microphone at home allows me to produce quality audio for a number of outlets.
It is easy to use, works straight out of the box with a simple USB plug in.
There are cheaper mics out there, but this is worth the initial outlay.
My daily newsreading mic. Turns a fairly acoustic environment into the sould of a proper studio. Nothing extraneious but not dull either. Excellent value and I will add another if the need arises.
I use this microphone for singing lessons via Zoom and it works really great. I’ve also used it to record myself when practicing and the sound quality isn’t bad at all. I haven’t used the buttons on the side, so not sure about those. Wonderful packaging, and it comes with a desktop stand. I purchased a longer microphone stand (for singing purposes) and the mic sits well on it.
I bought this to improve my audio when web streaming for work, family and friends. It makes a huge difference compared to the built in mics on laptops and webcams.
You do need to position the mic fairly close, so the supplied desk stand is a bit low, I bought a boom arm which makes it easier to position. I usually have the mic in shot, but it’s fairly unobtrusive. I also use the monitoring feature with headphones, again it works much better that monitoring through the computer. Build quality is excellent, it really feels like a professional product. Don’t forget you can register for a free 2 years extended warranty.
I more recently bought a Atem mini (HDMI streaming switcher) , and was able to use the 3.5mm output from the Rode, and just power it over USB, works great.
I honestly couldn’t be happier with this mic. I spent countless hours choosing which one was best for me, and even asked a friend who has a degree in music to chime in. You CANNOT go wrong with RODE, the quality is second to none. The build is sturdy, has a good weight to it and feels well made.
The included pop guard (is that what it’s called? ) and stand really help justify the price.
My stream has never sounded so good!
Would 100% buy again, if ever needed!!
