Rotak 36 R UK
Compact and lightweight, suitable for medium lawns.
The Bosch Rotak 36 R is packed full of incredible features to ensure you get a pristine lawn every time. The mower has a high speed 1350 W ‘Powerdrive’ motor that enables you to cut long grass with ease. Featuring innovative grass combs, this lawnmower is able to easily cut up to or over the edge of your lawn for a clean cut. It has a 36 cm cutting width, ideal for medium sized lawns and offers a range of adjustable cutting heights.
Bosch ‘Powerdrive’ motor
The Rotak 36 R is a powerful and lightweight lawnmower. The high speed 1350 W motor and innovative gear set work together to keep the blade running at a high rpm by altering the torque supplied by the motor. When the going gets tough, the system senses the increased load on the blade and increases the torque to the motor. This means Full Power!
Innovative grass combs
With inset front wheels and innovative grass combs, the Rotak 36 R can cut grass growing close to or over the edge of the lawn. This ensures that no strips of uncut grass are left behind when cutting around flower beds, walls or paths, reducing the need for trimming.
Lightweight and compact design
Lightweight at only 12 kg, and with its integrated carry handle, the Rotak 36 R is easy to carry and store. It comes complete with a 10 m cable making it ideal for small to medium sized lawns. Additioanlly, the Rotak 36 R features easy z-folding handles and a stackable grass box for convenient and compact storage at a height of only 55 cm. Quick to store and easy to assemble for hassle free mowing.
Ergoflex handles
The sleek Bosch Ergoflex design is based around the comfort and simplicity of computer console handsets, ensuring support and ease of movement. The mower can be operated left, right, one or two handed, horizontally or vertically, giving you 8 different grip positions to control the mower. With an adjustable working height and multi-position handle, optimal power transfer is achieved. Adjusting the mower to your body you can improve posture and reduce muscle strain. Bosch Ergoflex Lawnmowers are the first ever garden products to achieve Ergonomic Certification.

I have a large garden, so this probably wasn’t the best electric mower to buy. However, I wanted something lightweight, as my garden slopes, and I didn’t want to end up wrecked each week after mowing. So far all good. Have used it three times, and it coped with longer, slightly damp grass very well. The aim is to mow regularly, so that I don’t put it, or myself, under that much pressure, but with our climate this isn’t always possible.
I think it’s made in China, so doesn’t have the robust feel that I would expect from a Bosch. However, it’s working for me… should that change I will update.
Feels slightly heavier/harder to move than my years old rotak (previous shape). Grass collection box is a bit flimsy and delicate – It’s handle comes away if you try and lift a slightly weighty grass box off to empty. Sometime the box splits in two (clips back together). But it does a good cut and the new edge-comb thingies (not on the old version) are quite handy up against the patio edge/step.
Good value but seems a little flimsy – thought a Bosch product would have been sturdier. Used twice so far and no complaints.
Bosch Rotak mowers are the best by far. Give great cutting results and nice lawn stripes if you require.
Good cutting heights. Easy to assemble & store.
Do not cut extremely long grass as this could burn motor out in the the long term.
Mow your lawn weekly in the growing season.
Good buy but never revived strummer as you buy 1 get strummer free
So far very happy, I am unable to use it myself due to poor health but a friend said it was very good and lightweight. Only snag I have had is trying to register it with Bosch, now done hopefully but very poor instructions and no card to inform you what to do?
I bought this as a replacement for a very similar model which I’d used for 15 years without any problems. The only reason I updated was that I had broken the plastic on/off handle last year and reckoned it was time for a total renewal rather than just a new handle after 15 years. It was still cutting fine though. This model seems just as good on our medium-sized lawns. Not too heavy, but sturdy enough not to be confused with some of the lightweight smaller-lawn models. All in all I’m pleased with it.
The back wheels were a bit difficult to get on ,but we got them on eventually!! But as for manoeuvrability and lightweight it seems to be just fine!
Although it is lighter than our previous Bosch mower, it tends to bounce over hard ground and does not cut as goid
Perfect!! Easy to use, it is not heavy. Higly recommend!!
I’ve only used it once and it was fine. But I want to put out a couple of comments. This was purchased to replace my 2013 Bosch TYP3600H81B74 – which lasted 8 years before the motor burnt out. I liked the old one so decided to go with a similar product (even though 8 years seemed a bit premature for disposal – and sadly a new motor is far more expensive than a new mower)..
I was disappointed that this mower had a shorter lead (by approx 4 metres) than my old one. Which with my set-up means that I have to buy a new extension lead and it will have to hang in the grass area to enable the mower to reach my furthest points. (which messes with a small boundary hedge) My grass area is about 14m x 12m and it won’t reach across the 12m part. Sadly in the specification that I read there was no mention of lead length.
I guess it is just one of those areas of manufacturing cost cutting that slips under the radar.
Good points – the handles are a good feature, and with four switches to hold the power on located on each handle or on left and right side on the horizontal bar so there are plenty of places to hold onto and keep the motor going.
The depth of cut selector appears to be better too – in the old mower it would occasionally jump out, whereas this appears a more robust design.
Irritations….the grass box is more fragile, but hopefully will last the duration. The leaflet advising how to assemble is not up to date so the diagram of the machine handle arrangement makes you think that you may have been supplied with the wrong part, but it all goes together ok and is in line with photos on the box. There is a small extra part to the lead wire which is obvious where it goes but isn’t in the diagram. Technical Publications get your act together!
I like these mowers because of the roller at the back does leave ‘lines’ which I like in my lawn (sorry Monty).
Let’s see if this one lasts 8 years or more!
Easy to assemble easy to use and cuts the grass beautifully. We have quite a large garden and a lot of clumped grass and this machine cuts through it all like butter. It even cuts well on longer grass and it does stripe. Definately worth the money..
Brilliant, lightweight easy to assembly and use. Quality finish to law
I live in a park home with a small garden. This is perfect. I had a large house with three lawns before and used a large petrol mower for that, but it would have been too big and awkward for here. This is just right. And it cuts up to the edges of the lawn which eliminates strimming.
Bought this as a replacement for my ageing Flymo hover for my small garden. Main reason I went for this model is the brand and the cutting height (twice as high as the Flymo)- great for when I’m lazy and miss a cut. Works well, cuts easily, grass collection works well. One feature I was a bit wary of was the ‘up to edge cutting’ as my lawn bordered by fencing on both sides. Needn’t have worried as it did a good job- saving the need for extra work with strimmer or shears.
A replacement for rotak 40. So a down grade as they don’t make them anymore. Shame because this has less power, 3″ less cutting width and the cord is stupidly short even though I use an extension. Shame they altered the fixings to fold down the handle. I have to do this frequently to transport it in my car. If you can leave it up then it’s not a problem.
Positives are that its lightweight and easy to use. I like the multiple hold on handle design.
To start this mower you press a button and squeeze the switch on either the horizontal or vertical handles. There is no pull mechanism to break, just a switch to squeeze and this shouldn’t fail. The mains cable is continuous so there is no connection point that could fail. The mower can hang off the wall with a bracket of about 6 inches of reach. The grass box nestles quite well in the handle. The first time I tried the mower the grass was damp and at least 70mm long and lying flat. I set the mower to max height and it did a decent job. The grass comb worked quite well in these extreme conditions. I needed to stop the mower and clear out the wet grass from underneath, But two grass boxes worth in this worst case test. I tried dropping it one notch and running over part of lawn but ground so undulating I stopped and in future will just use max height setting which suits long tough grass we have. Our lawn is only 20 foot square so I am sure a smaller cheaper mower from the Bosch stable would’ve been adequate but this mower is replacing one which broke at a press button pull lever to switch on.
Had a similar model for years, which had a collection box limitation. This model has a bigger grass box and is much easier to empty when full.
I’ve just received this mower and put it together, and cut the grass. Reading some reviews I was slightly nervous, but I think it’s very good value for money.
Some reviewers have said that the grass collector is flimsy. I disagree. It feels fine and due to it’s size it needs to be light or it would make the front of the mower point at the sky once it’s full of grass.
Other comments were about the roller not putting down lines. All I can say is that my lawn now has stripes.
My only criticism is that the instructions have not been updated for some changes in the design. The instructions show a single “U” shaped handle that is initially attached to the mower, when in reality it’s 2 pieces. It’s also not very clear which way up you fit the upper section, so my first cut was done with this the wrong way up, but this was soon fixed. It took about 10 minutes to put this mower together.
All in all I expect this will last 10 years, so for 100 that’s 10 a year to cut the lawn which is fine with me.
This lightweight mower is excellent for our garden which is not too big. It has several height levels for cutting also
Having moved into a new property, I decided to kit myself out with some decent gardening tools and equipment. I carefully researched what would suit the lawns, and opted for the 34R. I’ve used it for the whole summer season, and I’m very pleased with it. My wife is particularly complimentary about the evenness and finish.
Good value for money. There are plenty of cheaper and more expensive models to choose from so it’s tricky getting the balance right. Replaced a Flymo I had for years. Very happy with this product.
Pretty easy to assemble. Light, considering it’s a mechanical item.
Product really light as it is made solely from plastic. Makes me a little nervous about quality, but so far so good.
Easy to use, does a great job cutting. Cutting height level is great.
Only word of warning is that I had to re-order the wheels (that you had to attach yourself). Amazon was really good, after they directed me to the supplier. Then I found the original wheels. Slightly hidden away inside the glass basket (I hadn’t looked so maybe my fault).
Product recommended.
Dislike: Mower instructions are a bit heath Robinson but basics are simple
Likes: vacuum level sucking grass up (dry) very good. Rear roller nice touch. Cut extremely good in infancy. Height adjustable very simple and efficiently easy. Cable length adequate but I use an extension anyway. Grass box easy to use. Grass box size more than adequate for 30m2 size lawn, takes 20mins. Grass combs are big bonus and such stray grass into cutting area.
Great quality and worth the money. I’ve had a new lawn laid and with all the rain we have been having it is growing like wildfire. I was given a cheap version which was far too lightweight which meant it was hard work and just pulled the wet grass out leaving cut grass everywhere. I am so happy with my new mower, it glides easily across the lawn even when wet, cuts well and good selection of cut heights.
Positives: Good build quality. Easy to assemble. Excellent cut for a rotary mower.
Negatives: The power cable needs to be longer even for a 45 square metre lawn and the grass box handle clips are not very secure. Some grass cuttings also fall out onto the lawn when removing the grass box.
i replaced earlier model same one found cable shorter and grass box flimsy had to glue on handel as kept coming off and did not join very well old model grass box much stronger and fitted better it seems progress is not all it seems but still think lawnmower is good
It’s a good product but compared to the previous Bosch mower I had I’m left feeling a bit disappointed by the fact that the lowest cut setting is not low enough for a really fine cut. It means that after I’ve cut the lawn it doesn’t look as “sharp and neat” a cut as I’ve been used to and I find myself having to repeat the task within a few days which I’ve never had to do in the past. It’ll have to do now but I’d maybe look closer at the specifications before buying a similar product in future.
We’ve had this lawnmower for more than 2 years. Overall, it is a good machines which is light weight and easy to use. But the blade was soooooo tightly fitted that we nearly had to take it out and pay for someone to replace it for us.
Was concerned when reading some of the reviews. That’s all gone now. Owned the 32R for 5 years and it worked really well. It gave up the ghost on Friday.
Ordered this one thinking if it’s as bad as some of the reviews then I can send it back. Was pleasantly surprised when putting this together. Took all of 5 min and the handle was a breeze. The unit it’s self is not too light, easy to move with the handle and seems ridged enough to handle the abuse it’s probably going to get. The grass box is rather flimsy but since the last one survived really well, I’m not worried about this. Its actually more solid than the old one. Since it doesn’t take any weight, the lightness of construction is beneficial.
Have done a first cut and love the easy height changer which the old unit didn’t have. All in all this seems a good deal and very happy with purchase.
This is my third mower of Bosch rotak I find them a very good mowe
Our lawnmower packed up and we ordered a new one but had to send it back so went for this one instead as a neghbour has one. Eady to use and works well. Other reviews say the grassbox is flimsy and it is, but strong enough when in place. It doesn’t now the edges as well as it suggests and sometimes just flattens grass so it springs up again but in general a decent mower that copes well with our bumpy lawn (said neighbour has the most perfect lawn you have ever seen – ours will never be like that).

It great but it was replacement for one the same we had for many years
So much easier than my petrol mower which rarely starts until I’ve put in fresh petrol. You can buy replacement blades easily or sharpen them with a grinder: makes a big difference. Only minor niggle: the blade doesn’t propel all the grass into the box so take a look as you’re using it (not with it on). Easy to use and cuts up to the edge.
Bosch should put two clips on the handle to wind up and store the cable. Easy to do.
– Height adjustment system raises and lowers front and back at once, which is neat and easy.
– Roller leaves nice stripes.
– Ergo handles are comfortable and help my posture.
– Cut is good, very even and no seed heads left.
– It will completely fill the grass box and still pick up everything.
– Grass box halves stay tight together as long as you take a second to make sure the catches are properly engaged.
– Cable pinching problem with previous models has been eliminated with a neat bit of plastic.
BUT:
– People have had trouble assembling the handles because it’s the WRONG MANUAL, I worked it out, but not everyone is as mechanically minded.
– The neat widget to avoid cable pinching doesn’t figure in any of the pictures, which may be why people are still having the problem.
– People have also had trouble folding the handles because the manual doesn’t cover how to do this, even for the old types of handles that it does mention. It’s neat and easy in the right order, but, as you’ll see from other reviews, you get in a horrible mess if you do it in the wrong order.
Great little machine, does what it says on the box, I have the same machine now for about 10 years (my daughter now has my old one) and putting the side by side I would just say the build quality of the new one is not quite as good as the old one.
Arrived very quickly and well packaged. Took about 20-30 minutes assemble – easy peasy. Immediately cut my front and back lawns, my previous Bosch lawnmower broke 🙁 Therefore wanted similar, this is slightly larger than previous, but seems quieter. Holds loads of grass cuttings, and very pleased with the results. Not cheap, but then anything decent never is. Bish bash bosch, easy peasy lemon squeezy!!

This is a decent mower that does the job well, and seems like it will last a good amount of time.
Assembly is easy and it is lightweight. It takes up little room in the shed, although I’ve not needed to fold it down as I have plenty of room. If I needed to however, it’s two screws which can be undone by hand to food the handle over the mower.
The grass box is fine and doesn’t feel overly flimsy, which was my worry on reading all the below reviews. It has a good capacity and, even though I’ve kicked it a few times, it has never gave me the impression that its going to drop off.
The grass combs seem to work well and let me get close to the edges. Every now and then, I do need to use the shears though.
The wire is only 10m long. That’s pretty short. Luckily I’ve got and installed another outdoor socket but if you have anything over a tiny garden or no outdoor socket, expect to need an extension cable.
Overall, a great entry level mower for small to medium gardens.
Always impressed with Bosch quality build and their ability to “get the job done” with the exact power you need.
Only grumble with this mower is the turning circle. It is designed for small lawns, but to turn you have to wrangle with the fixed position plastic wheels. It is also a touch heavy for a compact mower.
You also have to remove the handle at the base to pack away. Mid section folds, but bottom section doesn’t move.
It did a great job, but needs effort or patience. Was impressed with how close it gets on edges, but it wasn’t close enough to replace a strimmer.
The collection tray is made of 2 pieces of plastic rather than the one piece on my previous mower which I had for nearly 8 years. I guess it to keep the weight and packaging to a minimum. I have had it for just nearly a year and a great product for the smaller lawns.
My first lawn mower which was needed for a particularly uneven lawn. I decided to go for Bosch as it’s a well known mark plus Bosch offered an extended 3 year warranty. I can’t say I’ve been disappointed. I find it relatively quiet and it handles well the uneven ground. It’s not failed me after 10 months and can be folded away into a relatively compact unit, though I wouldn’t say it’s the easiest to fold and store in it’s most compact form.
One recommendation I’d give is when building, don’t tighten too much the quick releases on either side. They’re plastic and probably not that strong.
Also don’t expect bullet proof build quality. The main unit is well built but components around it are not of the highest quality. For example, the grass collector is made of pretty think plastic. But so are all it’s competitors and we’re talking a 100 mower.
The grass collector could hold more but then I realised how foolish the idea was of collecting the grass and therefore the nutrients which I’d then have to spend money on fertiliser to replace and not just leave the grass cuttings to go back where they came from. If you regularly and maybe go over them a second time, the cuttings will be hardly noticeable and disappear quickly.
In conclusion, for the price, I’d most definitely recommend especially if you don’t have that perfectly flat lawn like mine.
Great mower with ability to cut at different heights and a roller on the rear to produce stripe effect on the grass. Easy to put together and folds down for neat storage, although the collect box needs storing separately really. Easy to clear after usage and doesn’t clog up like the old flymo. It not as easy to move as a hover mower so if that’s important to you, get a flymo. Otherwise this is a great mower and makes mowing the lawn easier and quicker that my old flymo compact 300.
I bought this after my flymo went up in smoke. I like the lowest setting which cuts low but doesn’t scalp my lawn. It leaves nice stripes if you walk up and down in different directions. It holds a lot of grass compared to my old flymo, and I’ve never had it clog up either. It’s fairly light and easy to use. The handle to start it does feel a bit flimsy and I am wandering if it will brake easy. I hope no
I have a small garden and not a lot of storage space for a lawnmower, this is the perfect one. It fits into a garden plastic storage box, it cuts right up the the edges so I don’t have to strim. There is a long lead so I don’t need an extension lead, it is light weight, I can carry it not problem with one hand. I have to empty the box a few times but that doesn’t bother me. Good price and arrived in good time.
First the good – really powerful motor and excellent cutting blade make short work of a small lawn even when wet. The bad? It has a limited range of cutting heights (3) which are difficult to adjust. The handle bars are relatively flimsy in contrast to the robust body of the machine. It’s difficult to steer and the assembly instructions were scanty to say the least. And boy, is it ugly! So why 4 stars? Its cutting performance and grass collection are brilliant. As long as you have a small lawn which you can mow in straight lines it’s excellent value for money.
So easy to use and even cuts wet grass perfectly.. Just what I needed in Scotland!
Great little bit of kit, have used it throughout spring and summer with no problems, it replaced my petrol lawn mowers, it is lightweight and easy to operate, great cutting ability and sufficiently powerful for my lawns, once you have got use to making sure the mains supply cable is not going to tangle with the rotor blades, it is trouble free!
Very impressive given the price, the next one I purchase will be the bigger sized model!

This Bosch was a replacement for our very expensive but heavy and unwieldy Hayter mower as we only have a small lawn. It took a bit of working out to assemble but nothing too tricky. Overall, it feels quite light and dare I say it, plasticy but this is how most modern lawn-mowers within this budget are. The main thing is, it cuts very well and leaves nice stripes, in fact I think the grass looks better now. It is very easy to manoeuvre around our small garden. It is perfect for our requirements but if I had a big lawn, I think it may not be the best choice.
I have used my lawnmower twice now and cannot fault it. The cut is neat and clean, very easy to use, love the stripes the roller leaves and great price. Ignore all the negative comments, as long as you know how to look after your lawn, this mower is great…I was going to spend 200+ initially…but glad I took a punt on this. My photo shows my artwork using this mower.
Bought to replace older larger heavier model which had done me well but adjustment arm had snapped off. This fit the bill for a much lighter model but the build quality is far inferior. You get what you pay for and therefore no complaints. The grass box is far less sturdy and I wonder if the lugs on the mower will break off or show wear in time. Adjustable height mechanism is good but mower doesn’t seem to do such a good cut as my older mower. Handle is not very easy to fold up. If you want a light small mower, then this is quite a good option for the money 75
Delivery service was excellent. It arrived within three days of ordering it. It was easy to assemble but if it has a fault the grass box appeared to be a bit flimsy. However once assembled it did the job perfectly and is large enough to collect all the grass from my lawns , only requiring to be emptied twice. The mower cuts the lawns neatly and leaves a lovely striped finish. It is lightweight and manoeuvrable. I would definitely recommend this mower.
I have been so pleased with my Bosch Rotak 34 lawn mower that I bought more years ago than I care to remember that I replaced it with the same model when it finally gave up the ghost. Suffice to say I am more than pleased with the quality and ease of handling of the new one. Wouldn’t buy anything else. Now all my garden tools are Bosch.
Reasonably light and manoeuvrable, it does a good neat job. The handle design and 5 cutting heights are well worth having and make it look good value at the current Amazon price compared to the slightly cheaper smaller machines. No grouses once it was up and running. I expected better of Bosch when it came to the sketchy assembly instructions, which did not match the handle as delivered. Fortunately the way to put it together was reasonably obvious. The registration process to get the third year warranty extension took about as long as assembling the machine in the first place! You will need both the serial number and product code from the plate on the side of the mower, so either write it all down before you start or register on your smartphone while sitting next to the machine.
easy to put together, if you follow the instructions. I did think that the quality and construction of the grass box was poor for a Bosch produc
Great machine. Leaves the lawn looking great . Easy to assemble
This was bought for my 83 year old dad. His old mower’s wheel had fallen off, and there was no way to repair it. Although I did the first full mow, as the lawn was very overgrown, he has now taken back over, and is very happy with it. Cuts nicely – collects lots of grass – and easy to use. The instructions were not 100% clear – but that seems to be the case with everything nowadays, to save on the manufacturer’s paper bill.
Firstly, this took no more than 5 mins to assemble. It’s a literal piece of cake. Ignore reviews about the grass box – it’s simply 2 clips, one either side. It couldn’t have been easier. Maybe the design has been revised??
Instructions are pictorial only. But with a bit of concentration you can understand them. However, if you’re even remotely handy, you won’t need them.
Grass cut is nice, rollers do produce a slight stripe in lawn. Mower is easy to move, not very heavy, and simple to change cut length.
For 75 on a deal, it’s a bargain.
Sold my old qualcast for 15 meaning it was only a 60 upgrade, and that includes a 3yr warranty (once registered) – so at 20 a year I don’t think you could ask for more!
Yes, it’s a bit “plastic” but that’s to be expected these days – and it helps to keep it light.
Bought for someone else, wheel fell off, had to be returned.
I’ve used it once and it’s quite powerful for its size and grass didn’t fill up like previous lawnmower.
I have found this lawnmower just what I needed, gives an excellent cut the grass box is large so you don’t have to keep stopping to empty I have a reasonable sized back door and it’s no problem to this great machine would recommend to anyone delighted with my purchase .
I have always had Fly-mo`s but wanted a lawnmower with wheels. Looked around and went for this model. Received quickly and very easy to put together though the grass box is a little flimsy. Cuts my grass in half the time it took before and leaves some nice lines on grass. Easy to clean as well. A little more heaver than my Fly-Mo but no real issues. Very happy to buy this make and model again in the future.
Just the job for doing light work. If it lasts as long as its predecessor I shall be a happy man.
As described. Good delivery and price. Having said that, the grass box doesn’t clip together nicely and leaves some gaps, which I need to fix somehow; that’s a little disappointing. It’s not the same ‘solid’ quality as my previous Honda, but it’s ok. How many seasons it lasts will really be the acid test.
This Bosch Rotak 34 R lawn mower gets the job done. Some reviews mention that the collection box is flimsy, which it is a little, but I have had no problems in actual use, so no complaints myself. I have a medium size garden (8 x 25m) and the 40-litre box can do a fortnights growth in about 3 empties. I’m glad of the 40-litre box compared to other models which have smaller boxes and would need more stops to empty out.
The reason for giving this 4 stars and not 5 is because it has a cable attached for power and the ground I have to cover would be much easier and safer without being tethered to an extension (making sure I don’t run over the cables is certainly not convenient). If I were to buy again I would look at spending more for a cable-free mower, either petrol or battery powered. Otherwise, this is a well priced and perfectly functional mower for smaller lawns.
My friend a youg lady came to help me. She has a petrol mower. Swears by it. Put it this mower together we could not believeit.very long grass job done in know time, actually 1 hour. We was very impressed. Would recommend. Go on buy it .Why.YOU DONT NEED A STIMMER IF BLADE GOES OVER ANYTHING DID NOT BREAK. A BEST BUY. DONT KNOW WHAT ANY ONES MOANING. DOES MORE THAN IT SAYS ON THE TIN. AND MAN MY GRASS WAS VERY LONG. AREALLY IMPRESSIVE GADGET LAWN LOOKS BEAUTIFUL JUST NEEDS FEEDING AND WEED REMOVAL now. THANKS AMAZON

Received promptly but although everything was easy to assemble apart from one of the red plastic screw which enables handle to fold down. This was a nightmare as the screw would not contact properly with the nut inside. Eventually the nut had to be removed and was put back inside, the thread was the problem. Finally fixed it, sort of, and I used the mower. I had previously owned the model below which had been terrific for quite a number of years, I really liked it but thought I would go one up, it is quite a bit heavier than I expected it to be but it gave an excellent cut, I used the lowest which I think made it more difficult/heavier going but only had to empty twice. Would like a replacement wing screw as not too happy with the problem one. On reflection for myself I should have opted for the other model but giving good reports of cutting in wet grass sold it to me, otherwise would have been five stars. Don’t be put off though, I’m Female 74, dropfoot and a leg that doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, I can cut the lawn ‘cos I can “hang on” so serve my right for buying the bigger model!!!
This replaced my old flymo hover.
Took a 30 mins to put together then used it immediately.
Pros – very easy to push, nice cut, roller leaves the lawn looking nice, light, easy on sloped garden.
Cons – cable too short for medium sized lawn, fills up quickly so needs regular emptying.
Bought this to replace an ageing Flymo.
My grass was pretty high by the time I decided to give up trying to keep my Flymo alive.
This mower cut the grass which was just over 15 inches tall with no problem and didn’t leave many clippings behind.
The lever on the side that adjusts the height of the cutting area was put into great use on both my gardens.
One complaint I have is the build quality. Assembling the mower (especially the grass box) felt flimsy. I felt that if I applied too much pressure I would break the clasps on the grass box or the screws for the handles. This took me a little longer to assemble the mower than I would have liked.
Overall I am happy with this product and hope it will last me longer than my previous mower.
Excellent compact machine that is ideal for a smaller garde
I was forced to replace my old electric mower after a long life of faithful service, and decided by chance to go for Bosch. For a modestly priced machine, it seems reasonably robust and is neatly designed. I particularly like the double folding handle and the grass box that can be broken into two parts for storage.
Initial assembly was straightforward and accompanied by a surprisingly small amount of foul language. Performance is good, the motor spins with a pleasing hum the cut is clean and the cuttings blow back into the grass box in the approved manner. At present I cannot comment with fairness about the finished job, because my lawn is turning brown due to lack of rain and a drying north wind. However, one small surviving patch looks very neat.
All in alI like the machine, it is not heavy to push around, I would be very happy to let my wife use it if I was laid low. It’s also a very tasteful shade of Blue/ Green.
My new Bosch Rotak 34 R has just arrived. The motor part feels very solid but the grass box and the start box thing and it’s handle feel very flimsy. It didn’t take long to put most of it together. But after half an hour of struggling to get the two metal parts of the handle together, I’ve had to give up because my hands are blistered from trying to hold the two metal parts together, while trying to keep the screw in place and getting the nut to catch on the first part of the screw.
My husband managed to get the handles together.
The grass basket is useless, the handle breaks off every time you remove the basket from the machine.
But, it did make light work of the first cut of the season, I’m usually all hot and bothered by the time I use my Flymo and i’m pretty certain it cut half hour of my usual time. And it does get right up to the edges so I don’t have to use the grass scissors.
I have always had a gardener until two months ago when I got a call from him telling me that due to personal reasons he couldn’t do my garden any more. I was left with no choice but to do it myself as I couldn’t find another Gardner. That is when I bought this this lawnmower basing on the reviews.
It’s very easy to assemble and use. I went through my front and rear garden in no time and it doesn’t leave much prints on the grass making it look neat. It can be adjusted depending on the level of the grass. The noise is not too loud just enough. The only disappointment is the red flaps at the front both fell out within the first 45 minutes of use, and the container didn’t fit properly.
Am over the moon with this product! My last mower was the Rotary Bosch 32 which lasted five & half years – was pleased with this but not quite powerful enough for my thick-growing lawn & maybe burnt the motor out! This Rotak 34 comes with next size up motor power plus the bonus of longer cutting blade & far bigger grass container box. Life is now much simpler! (and quicker). Assembly of mower took longer than I imagined but overall fairly easy – probably easier with extra pair of hands! My old Rotak 32 height-cutting adjustment was awkward job of lowering or hightening the mowers wheels but this Rotak 34 comes with height-cutting lever at side which is much simpler and quicker.
This is my second Bosch Rotak, My first one broke after many years ( the belt broke and I couldn’t get to it!) so I brought one of those orange coloured lawn mowers, and hated it straight away but stuck with it, now its broken I’ve moved back to the second B osch.
Its just like I remember it, hard working, tough and stripes very good.
I have read about the grass collection box not fitting well, and to my amazement it doesn’t ,
When the two halves are mated one side sticks out, rather strange for German engineering. But it still collects grass without any loss.
Would I buy it again? Well I just Have!
This is to replace a Flymo hover mower as I have a new and much larger lawn. After the re turfing we went away and could not cut the grass for 4 weeks. I did doubt that the new mower would cope but it cut through the grass on the highest setting effortlessly. I will keep it on this setting for the time being.
It did take me a little longer than expected to set it up and the grass box seems flimsy, but on the other hand, it is light and seems to do the job. I am very happy with this purchase!
Bosch 36 R Lawn Mower
I received this Mower well before the stated date. It was not too difficult to put together. The most difficult part was releasing the grass box to get to the rear wheels.
Once put together I set the cutter to the highest cut (as I had not mowed the lawn for about 7 months). It did a great job considering the grass was so long and therefore damp.
It has saved me so much time than using my hover mower, thanks Bosch. The height adjustment was very easy to use.
The mower is quite well made and seems robust, and easy to use, however, it is a little difficult to turn around on a small lawn (it may be easier once the grass is shorter).
The grass box is a little flimsy and needs to have one hand on the inside to support it when closing/opening the clips.
The machine is very quiet, which is a good thing.
Too many nooks and crannies, makes it a long cleaning job.
The instructions are ok but they could do with some explanations, page 15 example 8 is not very easy to distinguish the images, they all look the same, except for the grass box. They remind me of the pictures you get where you have to look for the difference between two identical ones.
Overall, this is a very good mower, especially at this price.
Having now used this mower for several months I find it easier to go forward then backward, instead of trying to turn around.
Was bought to replaced last Bosch mower which we had for 10 years & was used between 3 family members, so had a lot of use. This 1 has fancier features ie grip handles, 36 inch cut instead of 32. The build quality does not seem as good on the new one & was surprised that the electric cord is a lot shorter. I would have thought it would have longer given its a bigger mower. Still very good cut, demolishes longer grass.
I bought this mower ’cause the motor went in my last one. I have used it twice, so far and have been quite pleased with it. Changing the cutting heights is very simple and at the end of the year the handle will fold away easily for storage but I can’t quite get it to fold as well as in the pictures by Bosch, but the pictures of the folded away mower on the website seem to have ergonomic handles, so maybe that one stores better? The only downside is the flimsiness of the grass collecting box but it works well and is a good size and might turn out stronger than it looks.
I was very plesed with the performance of this electric lawnmower. I have always been a bit cagey of corded lawnmowers as my previous experience has been that they bare underpowered and struggle to cope with longer grass or wet conditions. For this reason I have preferred a 3.5 HP petrol engine which has alway had enough power. However my Briggs and Stratton has been slowly dying on me and the cost of servicing exceeds the cost of a new mower, so on the recommendation of my builder (!!) I got this and have been very pleased with its performance.
Only 4 star though, due to the tacky plastic grass collector. It hasn’t broken yet, but it will. It is flimsy, poorly put together and is an obvious weak point .

i just used this on my garden after receiving it the other day.
pros: cut my very overgrown grass very efficiently on highest setting despite the grass still being quite wet after a week of terrestrial downpour.
nice large grass box that opens up for easier cleaning. only had to empty it twice and I have quite a large garden.
was easy enough to push through overgrown damp grass, didn’t feel like I had to go backwards and forwards over he same spot of struggle trough any patches.
nice long cable ideal for smaller gardens without the need for an extension cord.
lots of different height settings (I think there are 5).
cons: the red screws that you have to use to position the handlebar every time you use it were VERY difficult to screw on due to hole size and positioning. I struggled a lot doing that and I’m not looking forward to having to deal with that every time I want to screw the handlebar into position for mowing.
the grass box was a little tricky to put together as one side wouldn’t clip into place.
these cons are worth dealing with for the efficiency of the cutting experience and I will be using this from now on as opposed to my qualcast.
I’d read the reviews on the mower and decided to buy it and see how I got on with it myself. It’s easy to put together out of the box, instructions are simple to follow and it looks solid. Mowing is superb. So easy and effortless. Grass tank is a good size and is sturdy. Actual cutting is like a knife through butter. My lawn is of medium size and it used to take an hour plus with a Flymo hover mower. With the Bosch it took me around 10-15 mins. It makes me actually WANT to mow the grass. I used the lowest cut (it was set to this out of the box) and found it to be about right if a little short.
It cut the grass evenly and perfectly. I very good mower that takes the hassle out of grass cutting. You will not be disappointed. You could pay double the amount and the mower wouldn’t be as good as this one.
Purchased this on an lightening deal for abt 70. Come delivered in a compact box and takes about 15min to put together.
Agree with other comments it is very plastic and was about worried however after about 6 months worth of use it is good. The plastic helps keep the weight down with 5 trimming levels I think.
The rear roller does really give the grass stripes. Would say the ergo handles are about gimmicky big does give several options on keeping the power on when navagatjng around the garden.
Fairly light to manuvere and easy to clean. When not in use the handles fold down to a smaller size with quick release side clips and a few turn of the hand screws.
The cable is a decent length so no need to take out an extension lead for me.
Would recommend and deffo buy again.
Finally this model is the same found in b&q and homebase but have figured out that they are called different model numbers to avoid price matching and causing abit more confusion for buyers.
A brilliant lawnmower but a bit of a faff putting it together. The basket is flimsy and in two parts so aligning them before fastening it with the fitted orange clips was a bit of a fiddle. With mine, either the top or bottom half of the handle was slightly bent and it took a bit of force to align them and put the orange bolts in. Once it was done, the cut was brilliant. It just whizzed round the lawn and the job was done in no time.
I should therefore stress that these criticisms only apply when you’re first assembling it – once you’ve done that you’ll find it’s an excellent lawnmower.
It’s much better than my last one which has gone to join the Flymos in the sky.
Good mower cut, have had Flymo brand for many years, so was surprised how well this ‘wheeled’ mower cuts neatly, and close to grass edges, up to walls etc. but as others have commented, WHY NO cable store point, yes I know you can buy extra fitment that attaches. A let down for such a well known Bosch brand. The grass box is a little flimsy but has good capacity. Certainly leaves lawn cleaner and tidier, and few grass cutting bits left around as have had in the past with the Flymo, Its easy enough to push, don’t try to rush it, I take a gentle ‘stroll’ push with the mower and as stated it cuts well, leaving lines where mower has been. Like the external handle for blade adjustment., I am very pleased with its performance thus far, BUT knock a star off due to that lack of cable storage, damned annoying when you wrap up the cable tuck it in the motor handle, lift up the mower and the cable just falls away. I consider this a design fault and something if Flymo can provide on mowers, strimmers (moulded and built in to the casing) why cannot Bosch, or is it just another way to add an extra 10 plus for screw on plastic hooks which Bosch make.
Feels plasticy but worked great even on wet lawn, and I got stripes, found it easy to push, just hope it lasts
Good quality mower but if u like your grass short you may be a little disappointed as I was, it could do with one more lower setting, apart from that it’s good.
Happy with this mower for a small back garden behind a terraced house. Simple to assemble and works well. Cut the grass to a good length and dealt well with the first cut of the year post winter. The newer models have a cable winder for the power cord which I would probably buy if purchasing again however not a big deal if the price is right for this model. The grassbox takes a decent quantity before needing to be emptied.
My only gripe is the length of the power cable. As others have stated, it is too short. It actually reaches all but the last metre of my garden so annoying to have to get the extension cable out for such as small piece of lawn.
Overall very happy with the purchase and would recommend.
I just wanted to highlight one drawback….for other rotak models in the range, Bosch sell a multi-mulch attachment, but not for the 34R. This replaces the grassbox, and directs/disperses the clippings over the lawn (so no need to empty the grassbox). I didn’t realise this at the time of purchase. If this appeals to you, get the rotak 36 for a little more (not the 34R). No idea why Bosch don’t sell a multi-mulch for this model.

Otherwise very happy with the performance, as per other reviewers comments.

Sturdy mower which cuts extremely well and leaves a pleasing stripe on the lawn as a bonus. Cuts very close to the edge and can run over the edge onto paths etc and cut right up to the join.
I have read reviews suggesting it is hard to put together. I am no expert but the whole thing took me less than five minutes. The basket is easy to clip together and the handle can be assembled by one person with a little thought and care.
The lifting handle makes it easy to move in and out of storage. I release the lower handle clips to fold away. This is easy. I think it would be a lot more fiddly to release all four clips and fold the handle right down.
Only one very minor gripe. The little clip supplied to hold the cables to the side of the handle is constantly coming off. I have now lost it and will probably find it when weeding a flower bed next year! Easily rectified with a cable tidy however. That stays where is it put.
An excellent mower which I suspect will last me quite a few years.
Bought this to replace my old 34R.I find it a little heavier which maybe down to it being sturdier, although the grass collection box is a bit flimsier.I also find the cable a little shorter and there is no cable tidy as on the old model. All that besides,i had my old one for 8yrs.and was sorry when the motor eventually packed up as it had served me well over the years prompting me to opt for a new one.The motor appears more powerful and the stripes created on my lawn are really effective prompting remarks from the local dog walkers. Overall I have so far been pleased with the new machine and if it lasts as long as the old one then happy days.
…It was an accident I ran over the metal spike that normally holds up the rotary washing line with my trusty Flymo Hover bringing it to a sudden end. So I bought one of these. My ‘lawn’ is a very uneven collection of green growth mainly grass but a huge amount of weeds, dandelions etc etc being about 45ft X 12 ft ( London average type ). To my surprise the Bosch has handled this very uneven ground very well and producing a more than adequate cut. I found it hard to direct at first but have found just going in nice straight lines does the job. I never used the grass box on the Flymo hover and so had to rake the grass after cutting but with this I do use the box and find the whole job much easier and quicker ( I guess emptying it 4 times on a lawn with very tall growth ). Being just over 60 it is MUCH EASIER ON MY BACK THAN THE HOVER WAS. It feels a slightly cheap build and the folding handle, although a good idea, lacks rigidity and strength. The grass box is about as cheap as you can make BUT does the job. I guess I will use the mower 6-8 times this year as I am not a keen gardener by any means, because of its light use I DO expect the Bosch to last for many years.
I got this for 70 when Amazon were price matching B&Q.
Firstly when you assembly the lawnmower, 2 of the wheels are hidden in the grass bin. Don’t tighten the screws too tight and its easy enough.
I got it together in about 125 minutes with just me, no extra tools required.
Note, when you put the grass bin on the back you have to lift up the spring loaded flap and place it underneath.
My grass was about 2 weeks overdue a cut as I didn’t want to use my hover mower again. The Bosch, although it struggled slightly on the very high thick grass managed a good cut with just one pass. It does a good job cutting right to the edge and collects ALL of the grass. Normal after cutting the grass I am covered in the stuff, with this there was no grass on mer at all.
As it has wheels cutting the grass was effortless in comparison with my hover mower and I can’t recommend it enough.
The only down side it that when I received it one of the handles had not been painted fully on one side and seemed to have rusted a bit. This wasn’t enough to bother me as it just lives in a shed and won’t affect performance but does suggest that their Quality Assurance or build process isn’t the best.
Overall though I’m very happy for the price paid!
Whilst still debating whether to get a new lawnmower, my old mower went out in, more than, a puff of smoke.
First let me say that this is ridiculously easy to assemble, which I did without the instructions in under 5 minutes, not sure what the other reviewers were doing to make it sound hard, the wheels being tucked inside the folded grass collector was the hardest part.
Some reviewers would also have you believe that this mower will go through a foot of wet grass without issue – it won’t! It is not an army of scythe wielding pixies it is a fairly budget mower. I tried it on the front lawn that had not yet been cut this year, it was 8 to 10 inches high and a little damp. I had to set it on a longer setting to do a first cut and then drop it down and do a second run, I also had to stop repeatedly to unclog either the blade or the grass collector. I’ll also say that the collector is not very big and due to the design you really have to shake out the cuttings.
My previous flymo had a larger capacity and also had a reel for the cable which this does not, which is another minus point.
Having said all this though it got through the overly tough test and then was a relative joy on the back lawn which was more in line with a normal cut and was dry. It got so close to the deck edge around the lawn that I didn’t have to strim most of it, just the corners. Though it is a little long which can make turning more difficult, still less than my old mower, it is very lightweight and the width is good and the blade cuts pretty much the full width which help to make up for it.
Overall, I’m happy with it and would certainly recommend it for anyone with small lawns, storage issues etc.
