Great cooking on this and good temperature control, steaks are superb, toasted sarnies too. Easy to clean as non stick. Downside its a bit big.

Superb grill for a couple or for a small family, versatile and very easy to use. Fast grilling on one or two sides, space saver, and very easy to clean as both plates and the fat tray are detachable.

The only downside we found is that, even if treated with the greatest care, the non-stick plates gradually lose their coating over time so they start becoming stickier (and essentially unusable after about one year, with only limited use i.e. 1-3 times/week). Spares are available but are very expensive (close to 50% of the initial cost of the grill).

However, it’s a great grill and I would certainly recommend, but be prepared to shell more money over time on replacement plates if you want to maintain its initial performance.

I had my last Tefal grill for years the plates we’re very worn . It was better value to buy a new grill than to buy new plates. It’s a lot easier to clean than my last grill and it dose the job fine . Good delivery.

I had a Tefal and GF grill before this and hands down, this is the best. Cleaning is a breeze – never put them in the dishwasher – just soak them in warm water and wipe clean. I’ve done panini, steak, fish fingers, Med veg, marinated chicken etc. The uses are limitless. All the better for the ease of cleaning and temperature control.

Smashing grill this and super for toasties. No faffing about for raising the upper grill it simply pivots up effortlessly. Piece of cake to clean as well. Not tried it for steaks or burgers but I’d say it works as well on meats as breads.

Only having a single oven, I bought this to be able to cook chips in the oven and grill sausages at the same time. The grill can be used in a closed position, so that you can grill both sides of the meat at the same time, or in the open, barbecue position so that you can cook more items at the same time. The grill plates are ridged which is good for cooking sausages because they don’t roll around. If you are cooking a flat piece of meat, the ridges sear stripes on the meat. The plates are non-stick and easy to take out and put in the dishwasher to clean. The two halves of the unit allow it to be positioned in two different heights so that you can cook thin things or thick things. There are three settings, one for vegetables, one for breads, and one for meat. I have only used the meat setting so far on three occasions. The plates heat up quite quickly and the thermostat keeps the heat setting. There is a drawer to collect the fat/juices but very little came off the meat I was cooking.

This grill is very good but has one design fault.
If there is fat on top grill the fat misses the oil collector at the back when opened

    Good but has design faul

When you use this you will be shocked by the amount of fat produced. Burgers taste so much better and cook quicker. Steaks are more tender. In fact whatever you cook tasted better. Much better than the George Foreman ones. First bought one of these as a present for someone and when I saw it workings just had to have one. Only thing is it can smoke a bit so make sure you have kitchen fan on when using. Love it.

The meat and veg, both benefit from this mode of cooking.
There wasn’t much information about cooking times and styles so trial and error is the way to learn.
Cleaning is easier than I imagined.

The grill is versatile & easy to clean – no problems there.

However, temperature control is problematic. The grill will heat up and the status light will be on but once it hits temp it will effectively turn off then kick back in sometime later once the temperature drops. This is by design, its mentioned in the manual. It’s weird – If you’re cooking meat you can hear it sizzling and then the temperature control kicks in and it will stop sizzling. When the temperature control kicks back in then it starts sizzling again. It’s a bit frustrating because the temperature is not consistent therefore unpredictable results. YMMV.

I am very pleased with this grill and the variable heat control is a definite help. So far used it for cheese melts, burgers and grilling bacon – all good. It is easy to remove the grill plates and clean them.
The down side for me is that it is difficult to store. The top and bottom halves do not lock together so it tends to fall open if you try and store it on its side or end, so these are not options and it has to be stored flat. Also there is no cord storage so the flex and plug flops about. If you can keep it on a work surface then it would be perfect for you, but it is quite large.

This is a brilliantly-designed piece of kit and does everything it says on the tin. The integrated fat tray works perfectly in all positions and, although the temperature control looks like a three-position switch, it is continuously variable from very hot to extremely hot. I love it.

I bought the tefal grill to replace my George Foreman, I think it’s a bit expensive for what it is even at the offer price of 70, however so far it’s cooked lovely toasties, chicken breast which stayed juicy, gammon, bacon and more and has been easy to clean! Love that the cooking plates are easily detached so you can clean with soapy water if need be. The fat collecting tray is huge, I actually line this with tinfoil so I can just throw away any grease and reline it, saves having to wash it out each time you have used it I do like how it sits under the machine too rather than a tray which you pop in front makes the whole grill neater and easier to use. I like that it’s got three heat settings as sometimes on my george foreman food burned before it was cooked in the middle so I like that you can adjust the heat.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersHave this for several years and have used it almost daily.
    I love it …
The removable plates make this pretty easy to clean ( grooves can be cumbersome as expected) … but the fact you can remove them helps negate that.
Huge , removable, built in grease trap.
It really is so easy to use and clean . Robust .
Mine is almost 10 years old and working perfectly ( only the non stick has worn on the plates ) and I use it daily .
I am here to buy a new one as due to its age and heavy use, it is now looking worn in my new kitchen . BUT , would not consider buying any other grill. This model has no bells or whistles.. on/off and low, med, high .. perfect for me … ( no crap to go wrong)
I really can not praise this enough … hence taking time to review

So during lockdown I was living away from my wife and son and thought to gift them something that can make their life easier during tough lockdown days. Thought to buy an electric grill which wouldn’t make me sell my arm and leg to get one. I always research and compare products before buying it. I checked this grill from Tefal, went through all the reviews and liked almost everything about it. Because it was going to be first electric grill for the household, I didn’t want to go for the high range products.
This mid range electric grill from Tefal has definitely met my expectations in most of the areas that it should have been. From grilling vegetable to fish almost everything comes out perfect. My only criticism is about chicken thighs or wings, they always come out totally burnt from outside when used at default setting meant for it. If you try to go for lower setting that doesn’t make any sense and yes it just doesn’t feel right. Tried on multiple occasions and have always experiences burning of the outer layer. I would expect Tefal to pay attention to this as chicken is what most of the people would try to grill regularly.
Cleaning the plates after grilling is absolutely easy, so far did not face any issue in over two months of use. What’s not to like about plates you can remove them. Overall 4.5/5 would be my rating for this electric grill.

So pleased that when our old George Foreman grill broke, we chose to replace it with this one. We did some online research and liked the location of the drip tray on this plus the variable heat dial.
Having now tried it out a couple of times we love it. With the variable heat, the food cooks better without overdoing the outside of meat (though on a high setting it can sear that quite nicely). The drip tray slides out easily and the plates are each removed by a couple of clips.
It’s a little higher with the handle than the GF grill but still fits fine in our cupboard when not in use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve used this to cook chicken joints, entire seabags, vegetables and toasted sandwiches. It has cooked all of these thoroughly and quickly. The plates are easy to clean in the dishwasher or the sink, so the machine stays pristine.
I’m really pleased I bought this as it is especially good for cooking meals after finishing work late, so no need for easy-made meals. It’s quite large and gets hot, so you need ro place it on a surface away from overhanging cupboards for safety reasons, but the plates do cool down really quickly so that’s an advantage.

  57. Anonymous says:

     United Kingdom

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersWhilst I’ve no doubt the plates would clean nicely in a dishwasher, if you only have a sink then the raised ridges make it quite a lengthy task to clean them by hand. Also I was expecting the setting knob to move in 4 ‘clicks’ but actually it is variable. Lying the machine open the first time I thought the lid wasn’t sitting properly until I realised that the lid in this position also has a slope to allow fat drainage. Overall though I’m pleased with this, I keep it at work for night-shift and grill meats that I get at reduced price from the supermarket just before it closes. I’ve used this a bit now and to be fair if you only have a sink then soaking the dirty plates in hot soapy water for a while works well and a quick rub with a sponge cleans them no problem. Rinse in hot water and stand them up they hold heat and dry well.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI was trying to decide between this and the George Forman appliance. I am so glad I picked the Tfal Super Grill. First it is very easy to clean and the grill plates come out so even easier. Second , it really grills the food and I mean quickly. I’ve made hamburgers, grilled salmon fillets, grilled chicken breasts and everything cooked perfectly. Third, you choose the temperature which is super important. Nothing has taken more than 8 minutes to cook and that was a thick chicken breast. I had a George Forman and really struggled to get it clean and there was no temperature control. This product is so much better and I haven’t even used it as an open grill which you can do!

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersHaving tried several of these grills over the year and even returned a well known make to Amazon after it stopped working halfway through cooking some beef burgers, I find this one is very good. On the heavy side but the design is well thought out and it works perfectly. No need for probes, measuring the weight etc, which makes it more likely to go wrong. This does the job in a simple easy to use way.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Tefal Super Grill is a good well featured counter top appliance that does a fine job with a variety of foods. It’s a fair size, and is able to accomodate a couple of decent sized steaks, four burgers or chicken breasts when used in clam shell mode and double that when opened out to use as a grill plate.

I’ve had the Tefal Opti grill in the past, which tells you when things are done via a colour dial on the front, with this model you just have to set the temperature for your item then time it. It comes with a guide book to help and with a bit of practice you can get some pretty accurate results. Steaks come out nicely seared and fish is particularly good.

The unit is sturdy, feeling better built than some other well known brands, and designed to last. Clean up after use is simple. The plates detach easily and can be popped in a dishwasher or cleaned with some hot soapy water. I’ve been using it for a few months now and it hasn’t been relegated to a cupboard like so many other kitchen gadgets. It does a great job and at it’s current price point represents really good value.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a tefal grill with removable drip tray and grills. It’s similar in design to a standard George Foreman grill (of which I’ve owned a few) with the main difference being thay you can remove the grills to aid cleaning

    THE GOOD:
    – the removable grills are great for speeding up cleaning. I’ve been putting them straight in the dishwasher after use and it gets rid of most of the grease and burnt bits.
    – as per some of the newer models it has different heat settings allowing you to cook at a high heat or just keep food warm
    – the heat settings also have pictures of the types of food to cook at that temperature

    THE BAD:
    – the top grill tray has a dripped part which seems to just drop down the second tray looks a bit odd when assembling
    – have seen other models of grill that allow you to adjust the height of the top grill meaning you can make cheese on toast etc. This tefal grill does not allow for this (however it still makes a good cheese on toast).
    – the removable grill pans would make you think that you could buy different grill pans that would fit in (e.g. one shaped especially to make toasties etc) however I have no been able to find any – it seems like a missed opportunity if these do not exist.

Overall it is a very good product which I would recommend.

I can’t say we’ve used this for anything more than toasted sandwiches/baguettes/ciabattas/bagels so far. But it works very well for these, with sufficient weight to get that nice ‘crushed’ effect you get in the local coffee shop. The metal plates are also easy to remove and a breeze to clean. I will check back in when I try to grill a steak on it! Tefal is a well-known brand and in this age of rebadging cheap products, it’s reassuring to see this well-built product.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI was surprised at how heavy this was, I was hoping it was the packaging that made it so heavy but once taken out of the box I realised how big it actually was, hence the weight of it.
I used to have a similar item in my kitchen years ago, I am a bit of a meat snob anyway and try to buy most of my meat products extra lean etc. Its amazing even with the extra lean stuff how much fat drips out of it still. Kinda gross and fascinating to see.

It was easy to set up, my only real complaint is the size of it. It takes up considerable space on my kitchen side and I find myself constantly having to move it around as and when I am cleaning etc.
It’s easy to remove the trays to clean afterwards, they just slide out without any problems.

The cooking levels as recommended are pretty perfect. I didn’t have any issues with cooking any meat. Cooking meats like bacon etc was made easier as I didn’t have to worry about oil spitting at me, burning/hurting me. My husband liked this most because the bacon was cooked nicely and gave it a crispy edge that he likes.

I don’t really eat fish so I cannot comment on cooking this as I haven’t used to cook any fish.

Overall I think this item is well worth the money Tefal want for it. However be prepared for the size and make sure you have somewhere to store it if you don’t want on your side. I am going to have to sort through my cupboards and find a home for it in one of them.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersFirst there was the plain old sandwich maker, then the George Foreman grill and now the Tefal SUPER GRILL. Is it worth the superhero title though? After putting it through it’s paces for several weeks its a resounding YES from me!

    Pros:
Wide grill surface – big enough for several steaks or pieces of fish or a couple of toasted baguettes
Variable heating for the type of food you are cooking – just select the food on the dial and press the on switch and wait for it to heat up
    Very fast at heating up
Detachable dishwasher safe grill plates! this is amazing – no more nasty gunk that you cant scrub off without removing the Teflon in the process
Folds open flat so you can use as a bbq
Catches dripping fat front and rear in handy removable tray

    Cons:
Not a design flaw but I would recommend you use this under a powerful extractor fan when doing meat or fish as it does make a lot of smoke

I’ve used it to grill steak, whole trout fillets, toasted sarmies, lamb chops and burgers and they all came out fantastic – particularly the fish which I have always found difficult to do in a grill pan as it tends to stick and then break apart.

Throw away your old sandwich maker and get one now!

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersI like this grill, the design is well thought out and its not too big and cumbersome like some of its rivals on the market. You get 2 options when using the Tefal, you can use it traditionally like a George Foreman by putting the lid down so you can cook both sides of the meat at the same time, or you can open it up fully flat and use it as an indoor BBQ.

You have 3 heating levels from fish to steak, burgers and sausages are recommended to use level 2 and steaks at level 3, these levels would prove my only criticism of the grill, I find the temperature not quiet hot enough for burgers so end up going to level 3. Steaks cook very well on level 3. I haven’t tried fish yet, if level 1 is suitable for fish, it may have been better to give it just the 2 settings.

When using the BBQ setting, I can never quiet get the burgers finished off nicely, I have to put the lid back up for a couple of minutes at the end of the cook to seal them off nicely.

Cleaning the grill is so easy, both the trays are detachable and can be chucked straight into the dishwasher, the fat reservoir can be pulled out and cleaned with soapy water…. job done.

I really like this grill and we use it a lot, it seems pretty durable although should anything go wrong, I’ll update the review.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe got this to replace both our trusty but long-in-the-tooth George Foreman grill, and our sandwich maker which was very hard to clean. This takes up about as much space as both of those put together, but it is multi-purpose and worth devoting dedicated counter space to.

The grill can be used for toasties, or for grilling vegetables, fish or meat. It has a hinged lid so you can fit fairly thick steaks under it, and grills evenly on both sides. It is large enough to accommodate 2 or 3 steaks or paninis at a time, and the drip tray is effective in catching and collecting any fat run-off. The grill heats up quickly and is very easy to use. The only thing it doesn’t have is a timer.

The grill is very easy to clean. Unlike the devices I used to use, this has removable grill plates which clip out easily and can be fully immersed in water. The drip tray also comes out easily and is easy to clean. It’s so fantastic to have a grill like this which removes the issues of similar devices which have fixed plates and always end up with bits you can’t quite get clean.

Although this is more pricey than a toastie maker or smaller fixed-plate grill, it is more adaptable, can handle more items at once, and is a dream to keep clean. I thoroughly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Tefal Super Grill is a large grill, so make sure you’ve got space in your cupboard.

The grill has two positions. One closed (like regular grills of this type) and the other open so it becomes something like a BBQ. What food you’re cooking will dictate whether you leave the grill opened or closed. The instruction manual will be able to advise you on this.

Instructions are fairly basic, but easy to follow. There’s a grid that shows you a range of food, and tells you what setting the grill needs to be on and whether it should be opened or closed. It’ll also give you an estimated time of how long it should take to cook, but I found with sausages it was taking them longer to cook then what the instructions said.

The big setback with these things is they can be a pain to clean and generally make a mess when you’re using them. Not the case with this one. When cooking I’ve found the fat goes where it’s meant to – in the drip tray (unlike other grills in the past that have got fat all over the kitchen counter). As for cleaning, you can pull the drip tray out, and unclip the grill plates and wash them. They’re easy to clean, and I found grease just slid off the plates.

How useful is the appliance? Well that depends what you want to use it for. Currently I use it to cook sausages, and would love to try out other meats on it in the future. Thing is, it doesn’t really save any time. By the time you’ve pulled it out of the cupboard and let it warm up, it’d have taken you the same amount of time to set up the grill on your oven.

It’s a good grill. The fat drains away from your food so you’re left with less greasy food, is easy to clean and setup and operate. It’s also big (I can fit 8 sausages on at once and still have space for more), which can be seen as a plus side, but also a downside for someone with a small kitchen. Before you buy, I think the thing you need to ask yourself is just how much you’d use this appliance.

This is yet another great grill from Tefal. It’s very easy to clean as you can easily take the plates out and clean them. It has a tray to store all the fat/water that comes out of anything you’re grilling. Steaks come out great, just make sure you don’t keep them on the grill for too long. You have to find the right balance with the settings, don’t always stick to the instructions. After a few tries you’ll know exactly when to take things off the grill. One thing to keep in mind is that when the grill is on, it can get a bit smoky. Not enough to trigger your smoke alarm tho.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI know this is much more versatile than I’m giving it credit for, but since my super grill arrived I’ve started eating toasties again. They look really good with the stripes on them!

When your machine arrives you need to wash the two plates. They are really easy to remove – just unclip them from the machine and pop them in the dishwasher. Then clip them back in when they’re clean and dry. The first time I tried the machine I made a cheese toastie (without the butter on the outside that you used to do). I selected the temperature suggested for paninis etc, waited for it to heat up and then popped the sandwich in. After a few seconds it seemed to be smoking quite a lot, so I opened it up and the toastie had lovely brown stripes down it. I took it out at that point as it didn’t really want to be any browner. Unfortunately though the bread was done beautifully, the cheese was still uncooked. The next time I deacreased the temperature and increases the time I left it in. It seemed to smoke a lot less and the cheese was melting and bubbling. Perfect!

I think the smoke that came out the first time may have been burning off something from the elements because it doesn’t do it any more.

There are two minor niggles with this lovely machine. The first is that it doesn’t have a timer – you just have to stand over it, but given how fast it is at cooking and how hot it can get that may actually be a good thing – do not leave it unattended! The second is storage. It is surprisingly large and it doesn’t really stand up on the hinge end, so you have to keep it flat as per the image above. It takes up most of a shelf in a kitchen cupboard or else you have to leave it out on tune worktop.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe grill comes well boxed and I suggest you retain the box so you can store the grill should you not intend using it all year round. Easy to use first time. Read the instructions and the list of images before you start. The unit itself is quite chunky and needs plenty of clearance space for ease of use. The Heating plates are plenty big enough to take at least 2 large slices of bread laid side by side. The top plate lays flat onto whatever you are grilling due to the mechanism and is effective.
The controls are straightforward and if you look at the instructions then easy to set for the different items. The unit does pre heat so comes quickly up to the required temperature.
On first use we found there to be smoke from the element when doing chicken breast and then later some toasted sandwiches. Having had one of these grills before I do remember this as being normal and after a couple more uses expect it to run without any smoking.
The juice tray works well and the hot plates direct any juices into the tray.
The results of both the grilled chicken and the toaster sandwiches was good. Price wise I think this is as much as you would want to pay.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI love my George Foreman grill, and have never been without one for many years, so was interested to see how this similar Tefal grill would compare. It looks nice enough and is a decent size. The different heat settings are very handy and a huge difference over cheaper grills that only have one heat setting. This obviously adds greater flexibility to what and how you can cook things. So far I’ve tried the basics, bacon, sausages, chicken and steak, and all have turned out great.

Cleaning the grill plates seems easier than on my George Foreman grill, the plates are removable so that clearly helps, but they also seem really non-stick, which is good. Overall this Tefal grill is a very versatile appliance and I feel like there are more options that with the George Foreman grill I’m currently using. I’m sure I can find uses for both, though, especially if there are lots of people to feed, which tends to be the case in this house!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’m really impressed with this grill to say the least. Having had several similar grills and toastie makers in the past, all of which have dribbled grease onto the counter or been really difficult to clean, this one is a dream!

It has several heat settings for various types of food and so far we have used it for pork chops, Cajun chicken and steak. The steak was the best we have had at home with nicely charred stripes and juicy centre as it should be. To do this you need a good level of heat and this grill can provide it and in fact worked better than our oven top grill pan.

The Cajun spices did catch a little so perhaps I will try a lower heat or add the rub half way through cooking. However the chicken was tender and tasty and cooks much faster than the oven or a pan.

The drip tray catches everything. No mess at all. It also has a light on the switch so it’s easy to tell at a glance if it’s on or off.

The best feature is the grill plates which can be removed and go in the dishwasher, making clearing up a breeze. They are also amazingly non-stick and if washing up in the bowl anything left on the surface just wipes straight off.

This grill will definitely get plenty of use. I am looking forward to trying burgers, kebabs and maybe char-grilled veg and to be honest anything else I can think of.

Of course another not insignificant side effect of using this grill is that fat is reduced because it drains away whilst cooking and of course you don’t need to add any at the start. It is a real plus for healthier eating which we all need a bit more of.

Bottom line is that this is a very. very good home grill that is easily superior to most of the other cheaper ones you can buy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLarger sized indoor grill with two plates. Use with the lid in an upright position for a two portion grill or lie the lid down flat and use both plates for four portions. More than enough room for four average pieces of meat and plenty of vegetables. A long, plastic drip tray slides under the plates to catch excess water and fat from both surfaces. The plates are slightly tilted and can’t be adjusted.

Simple controls with just three heat settings, veg/fish/meat, plus an on/off and heating light. If you’re using both plates the heat setting will be the same for both which isn’t great but; I’ve found the best way to cook is to use the highest heat which reduces cooking time and seems to work fine for vegetables as well as meat but; because the ridges on the grill are deep don’t cut vegetables into small pieces. They fall into the ridges and scorch. Stay with larger pieces no matter what you’re cooking. Takes approximately ten minutes to heat up fully and I don’t use oil.

To clean; simply pop the grill plates out of their metal brackets and push the drip tray out from under the grill and give them a gentle wash. I clean by hand and use a soft toothbrush to get right down between the ridges on the grill plates. Wipe down the outside with a clean, damp cloth.

I use the grill regularly for everything from sausage and bacon to burgers and steaks and I like it. I’d certainly like it more if both grills had their own heating controls. Very sturdy and well made but; you will need non-scratch utensils for turning/removing food and very gentle handling while it’s still hot. If I’m lying the grill flat I put it onto a large, heat proof chopping board and not directly onto a kitchen surface. It does produce some smoke depending on how hot it gets and how well done you like your food. I always keep a window open.

A versatile, large size gadget for daily use not just barbecues.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis grill is pretty versatile and contains the now obligatory fat capture tray that the George Foreman grills are usually famous for. This one, however, is not separate by default and slides out from the right hand front side, making it far easier to store and not lose the tray.

At first we thought, from the pictures, that this would have more controls on the extremely wide handle, but these turned out to be a sticker that gives an indication of how to cook certain food. It seems a little bit of a waste to make the handle so big, considering it doesn’t really have a lot to do, but at least it’s useful for gripping and doesn’t get too hot once the grill has been on.

The heating up phase is pretty quick and the grill tells you when it’s ready with a simple red light. Then just pop the food in with the recommended settings (either from the handle or from the included handy guide) and you’re done. Cleaning is really easy, too, as you can wipe down or take out the plates and it seemed to clean well if not left to cool before cleaning (as long as you’re careful, of course!) bur even if you do leave it, the material looks pretty good for easy cleaning.

What impressed me the most was how easy this was to use with different sized foods. The back hinges lift up well to avoid squashing food too much and can cope with everything from toasted sandwiches to steak. Prawns seemed to do well, even though I usually do them on an open grill, as the top can be left open to grill things this way, too, making it even more versatile.

Food was cooked evenly and well and we had no issues with anything we tried. Very happy with this Tefal product, despite the large sized handle issue.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersAt the time of writing this review I was unsure of the price this product would be retailing at but I believe it is around the 100 mark.

I have used Forman Grills before but always found them a bit hard to keep clean and having the worry of getting the appliance too wet while cleaning. What I really liked about this product is that the grill plates clip in and are easily removable for thorough cleaning without the worry of getting the electrics wet.

I bought a couple of rump steaks to test this out. The instructions were a little confusing to me as to what to put it on for steaks so I used the heat setting 3. There are 4 heat settings. The grill heated up quickly and it smoked a little, but that was probably my fault.

The grill gives a really nice searing to whatever you are cooking. The steaks came out wonderfully tender and as tasty as restaurant quality. The grill did smoke a lot though and I had to have my extractor fan on full for fear it would set of the smoke alarm. It has a really nice large fat drip tray and caught all of the fat without any leakage or problems.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis SuperGrill is simple and easy to operate, but performs well. I’ve tried steaks, toasted sandwiches and more, and the results are great. The grill can accommodate quite thick items, and is large enough to sear-cook three good-sized steaks. In addition to grill mode, it’s easily opened out into the barbecue mode, to give a larger, yet still stable, cooking surface.

The grill heats up in about 5 minutes and distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface. The grill plates are easy to remove for washing, and thin and light enough to harmlessly slot amongst the washed plates on our draining board drying rack (the grill plates are dishwasher safe, though we don’t have one). Also easy to remove and wash is the juice tray, which has a capacity that is plenty big enough for our family-sized grill sessions. It’s good at catching any run-off, even when the SuperGrill is opened into barbecue mode.

This SuperGrill has proven to be a very welcome addition to our kitchen, and we are using it far more often than I expected.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFantastic electric grill for table-tob use. Brilliant for steaks, sausages and (though haven’t tried this yet) vegetables. You get a lovely stripey effect on meat and fat runs off very nicely into a pull-out groove. Cleaning is quite easy – just wait until it’s cooled down and wipe with good hot, soapy water. Quite bulky – you need somewhere to store it; it would take up quite a lot of counter space if you don’t have cupboard space.
Feels very solid and efficient – quick to heat up – and looks the business.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMy son’s very fussy about steak – he’ll only eat it au bleu or rare, preferring the former. He likes a decent cut that’s a little marbled, but on this occasion he tried a fat-free bavette steak.

After seasoning it, he put the grill on – it took about 6 minutes before the light turned itself off at the highest setting, which was the indicator that it had reached the perfect temperature. The handy booklet that came with the grill indicated that it would take 3-4 mins for his steak and he timed it accurately, taking it off at 3 minutes.

The steak had perfect chargrill marks on the top and bottom, and not even the tiniest bit of meat juices had leached out. The steak cut easily and was a perfect au bleu, full of taste, but warm all the way through, which doesn’t always happen with steak made in a pan on the cooker top. I also liked that there was no burning smell and that my smoke alarm didn’t go off, as there was no smoke emitted.

The garlic, fresh rosemary, pepper and oil used to marinate and protect the meat are the only things that needed to be cleaned off the grill, but this was easy to do once the grill had cooled. The instructions say that this should take 2hrs, but perhaps that’s when it’s been used for long periods – ours cooled down in 15 minutes. I simply used some scrunched up thick kitchen roll and a little soapy water, and everything practically slid off. The plates are actually removable and can be washed in the sink or in a dishwasher, though nothing metal should be allowed to come into contact with them. There’s a juice/fat collector cup that pulls out for collection and that can be completely removed for cleaning.

Confusingly, the instructions tell you to slide the plates into the machine to assemble it, but ours came ready for use. All it needed to ready it was to wash the plates (we didn’t remove them to wash them, but wiped them with damp soapy kitchen roll, dried them with damp kitchen roll and then oiled them and wiped this off). There is a slight smell of burning plastic whilst this heats up for the first time, but it’s nothing too unpleasant. If you do remove the plates, it’s really easy to do so without the instructions booklet just by clicking on the small metal tabs at the side of the grill plates, and to reattach them, make sure they CLICK firmly into position.

This can also be used as a barbecue, by opening the grill so that the top and bottom lie flat at 180 degrees. We’ve not tried this, as the grill is quite large in its upright position, and because this appliance is not safe to use outdoors, and I wouldn’t want to have too much smoke indoors. If we do use this function, I’ll update the review.

The instructions leaflet is pretty comprehensive (love the CHILDREN SHALL NOT PLAY WITH THE APPLIANCE. CLEANING AND USER MAINTENANCE SHALL NOT BE MADE BY CHILDREN UNLESS THEY ARE OLDER THAN 8 AND SUPERVISED!). Remember not to place the appliance in a corner or below an overhanging cupboard to avoid overheating. You do need to take care with the reasonable-length power cord, as if it gets kinked by something sitting on it or burned, it renders the grill inoperable. Cooking utensils should not be left on the grill to both avoid damaging it, and to avoid overheating of the utensils, leading to burns. The coating is non-stick (and by the look of it, very good non-stick), so care is needed when cleaning and no metal scourers or scouring powder should be used with it (despite the use of garlic and us not washing the plates under running water or in a dishwasher, there was no residual smell on the plates). Aluminium foil can’t be used on this and nothing should be placed between the meat being cooked and the plates. It does say to avoid excessive preheating to avoid damage to the plates.

Overall, at first use, this is pretty impressive. On the downside, which I’m not deducting marks for, it is bulky (though you can cook at least 2/3 steaks in one go) and takes up space on a worktop, and the instructions leaflet is made of simple paper, not laminated paper, so is already soiled.

Rating is provided on ease of use, performance, results and quality only, as at this time there’s no price at amazon. It is on sale at a high-street catalogue shop for around ninety-five squid, which I wouldn’t pay for an appliance that would not be used more than a few times a month.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersThis Super Grill feels sturdy and well made. It came well packaged with good protection of the ribbed plates inside the box. The top and bottom plates are clipped into place and are easily removed for cleaning purposes (it is recommended that you clean them before first use). It heats up really quickly. For test purposes I cooked a couple of chops. Following the guidelines they were cooked perfectly through. Any fat and juices run into the detachable drip tray. This drip tray slides into position under the left side of the grill and has ample capacity. Again, easily removed for cleaning.

The hinged lid can be separated so the upper plate and lower plate open flat for barbeque style cooking (see photos)

    Overall, very impressed.

    Cooks to perfection.
