Tilta Mini Matte Box Camera Lens Hood 4×5.65″ Filter Frame for Mirrorless DSLR Cameras, with 67mm/72mm/77mm/82mm Lens Adapter Ring 15mm Rod Support Holder Lightweight MB-T15
Feature:
- The Mini Matte Box is a lightweight, affordable solution for filmmakers using DSLR and mirrorless style cameras. The Mini Matte Box weighs only 140g (4.9oz). It provides added protection for your lens and can help prevent light flares with the included top french flag.
- 1/4â³-20 and 3/8â³-16 screw holes and cold shoe mounts provide several mounting points for a variety of accessories such as small LED lights or microphones. The kit also includes a 15mm rod adapter that attaches to the bottom of the matte box, providing support for the weight of the matte box as well as a way to secure your lens in place to provide lens stability (does not support lenses with front element telescoping).
- The added benefit of this matte box are the two filter options. The front of the matte box provides a slot for any standard 4Ã5.65 filter. Also, screw-on filters can be attached to the included adapter rings via the inside threading that match each adapter ring diameter. This adapter ring is first attached to your lens and then the matte box clamps onto the adapter ring.
- The kit includes the Mini Matte Box, top french flag, 15mm single rod support attachment, and four lens adapter rings (82mm, 77mm, 67mm, and 72mm). Additional adapter rings in non-standard sizes (52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 85mm) as well as cine version adapter rings (80mm and 85mm) will be made available soon.

When I ordered this Matte Box, it was primarily to help reduce the amount of light getting into the lens, as I already had screw-on filters for most of the effects I like to use, and wow was I blown away.
For the money, you get a really solid Matte Box, a screw-on style so no annoying gaps, multiple support configurations if needed, with a well-made barn door or flap. For the money, you can’t beat it.
I did try it out with one 45.65 filter I have, and it is a bit loose, but not terrible. Not filter falling to the ground like the others have stated.
I would say my one big gripe is the screw-on filter doesn’t sit all the way flush into the mount on the matte box, you really gotta attach it off-camera, get it super flush, then screw it on. Slightly annoying, but it is what it is. Overall, great bang for your buck!
Va bien, no pesa nada, perfecto para usar con la cmara sobre el gimbal.
Love it- just what I expected and needed for my Sony A7s.
This is an awesome matte box. Super well made. My only complaint is that you can’t use 4×4 filters in it. Otherwise it’s awesome.
Muy buen producto. Muy util si solo necesitas cortar las luces parasitas que entran al lente
Splendida Matte Box, ultraleggerissima, costruita veramente bene e dall’aspetto professionale.
Mega Teil!
Great Matte box very profesional and great quality I’m very happy with the purchase
If you’re using cine lenses This matt box is not for you works great with sigma art lenses
I’m surprised Tilta went through the trouble to make an almost perfect product. A single small pin that holds your expensive 4×5.65 filters? C’mon. What’s worse, when you put them in there, they slide around with any movement and rattle so it just does NOT feel or sound secure. Because it isn’t- according to other reviews on here..
However, I found a solution so thought I’d share because I see many have the same complaint regarding the filter tray. I bought “Black U Channel Edge Trim Seal EPDM 15/32″ high x 19/64″ Wide” off Amazon and cut it to the length of the small channel on the side of the filter (the side that lets you slide the filter in). I then made some small adjustments (see pic) so it would fit snug and boom, easily removable, stays in place and the filter is SNUG. No more rattling. Looks clean and now IMO worth the $99.
Hope this helps for those who’ve already purchased and found that the filter tray system they implemented just isn’t up to Titla’s quality standard.
Everything else about this thing is solid. Material and build quality feel great. Step-up rings work as advertised with my Rokinon Cine DS lens set. I also like that its 1/2 the size of the SmallRig version. I bought this to be low profile and light, not make my rig look Hollywood. Have a big old heavy JTZ swing-away MB for that. Screw on variable ND’s will be wonky if you use them on whereas the whole matte box will rotate. Just FYI.
Tilta – y’all should probably revisit this design and make a tweak if your systems/brand is premium priced.
It’s great but smaller than I thought, It’s definitely a great start though. I’d say just save for a bigger ones, it makes my whole set up look every and it helps me with tons of glares, but it looks tiny compared to my medium size rig!
This matte box is great if you only need 1 filter holder. The Smallrig matte box is great for 2 filters. And I use my Wooden Camera Zip matte box when I need 3 filters. Overall, very happy with all 3 matte boxes and of course this one is just the cutest.
Comes in a nice quality box with all the pieces you need, the over all quality is top notch and its light weight great for travelling production.
Works great for mirrorless lenses. I would just make sure your lens thread connection is min 67mm. Otherwise you will need step up rings.
Other lite boxes similar to this one in this price point are much larger. This size is very practical and gets the job done.
The MB I was waiting for years!
Small, no rails need it, Lightweight, industry standard 4×5 filters
Good to make look professional your camera and have a extension to work with filters very friendly!
I like the matte box but I can’t find any filters that fit in it. This is my first matte box so I may just not be finding them. Otherwise a great matte box
I did a YouTube video on this mattebox. For the price, the build quality is well done. Features a mix of metal and modeled plastic build. Offers 2 cold shoe slots for accessories which is a plus.
Downsides are that it only has 1 filter slot a 4×5.65 which is a standard size but it is held in by a little peg.
Overall, for a run and gun set up or on a gimbal this is a great mattebox to use. Its small size makes it super easy to travel with. Very good value for the money.
Solid, dependable, great value, and quality material. I highly recommend this product.
Having used uber expensive matte boxes from Arri and Oconner I can understand why they cost so much, but like many others I’m still bemused when I see prices for what are considered budget matte boxes. I was making a small run and gun rig, and just wanted the most basic matte box, I rely on screw on filters, so options for drop ins would just be a bonus. I looked at the new $100 options and the materials used looked cheap and nasty, and was about to bite the bullet until I came across this, and having been very impressed with the brand before I made an impulse purchase.
For the price I could not be happier, they could easily have charged twice if not thrice the price and I would feel it fair. it’s extremely well built but super super light. The included accessories, I was honestly surprised about at this price point, seriously the matte box alone is well worth the cost of entry. Not important, but the packaging is great too.
Is it perfect? No, the major downside is the way the box tightens onto the lens ring, it’s such a small knob and it can be hard to get a tight fit, they ideally should have used a lever/clamp solution, or just a knob that is easier to grip. This complaint only applies to the clip on option, which most will use in Gimbal/Drone situations, and it’s fine. Otherwise I would recommend trying to use the rod options for a more secure fit. It’s not as if the box will fall off in clip-on mode, it’s just more likely to rotate and slip. I’m tempted to drill small holes into the lens ring, or jerry rig some other option.
But for the price, this is a seriously great option, you can even use a drop in filter, bonus!
id recommend this matte box- I’m using on Ursa mini 4.6K and dslr rig(s) -its lightweight and solid and I use with 4×6 filter set- but if your needing to add additional circular threaded filters such as ND’s to the lens mounting adapter – take note : from what I received – it appears only one of the 4 provided lens adapters – the 82mm has the longest section of threading on the inside front of it -the other 3 provided 62mm,72mm & 77mm have a much shorter amount of inside front threading – making it more difficult to add an additional circular threaded filter directly on front of the matte box mounting adapter ring – a work around might be to use step or step down rings on your ND attached to front of your lens to receive matte box adapter ring . product Improvements would be to make all provided adapters with longer threads on inside front end. Works well with other than that mentioned- solid product for price poi
Loving it, works great with my Sigma Art lense 25-105mm, and looks good on Ursa Mini Pro. It is very lightweight and has lots of mounting options for additional accessories to be mounted to it.
This is a great matte box for the money. Not an ideal choice for wide angle (anything more than 17mm on APSC or 24mm on full frame) because of the frame getting caught in the image. Really good and you need something light for a handheld setup! Used on my Canon C200 cinema camera and my Canon EOS R.
Excellent product. Nothing cheap about this product other than price. High quality design and manufacturing.
I recommend
Clips on and also has an option for rails but I honestly couldn’t make it work..but the clip ons work well
Great quality built
Filter ready
UPDATE: OK, I bought some more parts to help raise my camera and figured a quick release system would be nice. The matte box works perfectly now and is completely adjustable , I’m increasing my star rating from 3 to 4 because this really does work well, I can use my variable ND’s too! Its still thin plastic, but it doesnt feel weak.
I bought this so I could easily swap lenses while only using one ND filter across all my lenses. Because of this I did not want or need to directly mount this to my lenses, I wanted to mount to rails. I also didnt want to buy a huge matte box for my low profile rig so I bought this.
But.. I immediately ran into two issues.
1. The rail mount part was assembled wrong by the manufacturer. I tried getting it on for 30 minutes, tried looking at the manual and immediately realized whoever at tilta assembled this part installed the arm screw facing the wrong way which meant the knobs kept hitting each other and eventually couldnt be loosed as they obstructed each others ability to rotate.
Took me 2 hours to remove the rail mount from the matte box just so I could tear it apart and re assemble it correctly. (Which required tools not provided in the box)
2. Now this is the truly frustrating issue I have. Apparently this mini matte box wasnt designed for small rigs. At least not out of the box. As it wont sit low enough while using the rail mount provided, which makes this matte box useless for my needs.
I wish they advertised this differently so I knew it wasnt meant for small set ups..
I’m forced to either return this item or make it so my rig isnt low profile..
If i wanted a big rig I wouldn’t have purchased a “mini” matte box.. which is really just an excuse for tilta to use really thin cheap plastic
Compare to ordinary matte boxes, it is quite small and light. Very good to attache most of lens, without rods.
You will never disappoint with this product.
This is a great Matte Box, and it’s well priced! I definitely recommend, I honestly can’t think of any downsides to this accessory.
What pushed me to finally buy it was the support for 4×5.65 ND filters. I finally wanted to switch from circular one mm size filters to “multi lens support” filters. As the Matte Box easily fits my small and big mm lenses!
his fits my lens so well and even having the capabilities to fit on my 15mm rod is amazing.
*Important Update.
I bought 77mm variable ND filter and can’t place it in this mate-box because adapting ring has the same diameter as a filter and I can’t screw the filter into the ring. I found a great solution/life-hack. Take any cheap uv-filter with the same thread as a filter, remove the glass part and screw in your Variable filter into this filter. And you will have a perfect Match (see attached video)
The best mattebox ever! There are several reasons:
1- mattebox Installs without any additional mount directly on the lens;
2- The ability to use round filters In addition to 4×5,6 filter
3- super light weigh
I like how it looks on my camera, and allows me to drop in a ND filter over the front of my camera lens. 4×6″ glass ND filters WILL fit into this, they just stick over the edge a little and do not lock. So I’d recommend adding a little gaffer tape to the edge to secure the ND filter. Though I’m not too worried about it falling out.
Haven’t really tested to see how it cuts flares yet.
Excellent quality of material and value-for-money in comparison to many matte boxes on the market – it’s extremely lightweight and sleek giving your rig and Camera a cool professional and Indie look. BUT, major flaw as noted just like the other reviews – the major issue with the 82mm….
Everything came in A ok. Really pleased with all my orders.
Best Matte Box package on the market. Comes with step-up rings, great study lightweight construction. Replaced larger, heavier Cavision Matte Box. Well worth the price!
Amazing customer service, got back to me right away and arrived much earlier then expected. Just wow! Loved the entire smooth process. Business done right in 2020. And of course the quality, look and light weight materials I couldn’t be happier with. Tilta, thank you again would recommend your service and great quality products to anyone I come across. Would love to review your products if given the chance. Would be my pleasure
Super excited to get my hands on this. It’s a great addition to my BMPCC4K rig and I finally get something compact for all my filters, without a huge mattebox
I will start off by saying that this is a great value for the price! If you are looking into buying a matte box, then you know how expensive they are. When I came across this one, I was a bit concerned about the quality it would be for only $100, but I figured I would take a chance and see. I was very impressed with the build quality and how sturdy the clamp on really was. I am using this matte box with a Fuji 16-55 2.8 lens with a 77mm filter thread. I was excited that this box had the ability to use thread on filters as I already had some. BUT… the 77mm diameter WILL NOT WORK with this matte box. I knew that others have committed on this issue and I almost returned the matte box. After some research, I found a company that makes filter thread extension / spacer rings. The company is called Gadget Place and they sell various sizes based on what you want to do. I bought a 14mm long extension ring which brought my filter far enough out to clear the matte box lens opening so that I can mount my circular filters onto my lens. Only problem is that I get some vignetting between 16mm and 23mm. But if you shoot from 24mm or farther, you are good!
Fantastic quality and build. Perfect size for the run and gun videographer. Really like the variety of ring sizes. Also it’s made with precision and very light weight.
The matte box hole a little bit smaller than Polarpro 82mm ND filter I have to push hard to let them fit together.
