Fantastic good value for money family easy to set it iup good instructions clear screen was able to relax and let it do the route would recommend as basic first time sat nav
The product write up said you could link to a smart phone and lap top,but what as far as I could see only if you use an I phone not an android and it only works with a windows system and not chrome.
As to using the system that works okay.
smaller screen than previous one, not easy to get used to. Instruction handbook not easy to follow. I realise this will take time. Otherwise perfectly okay, seems to do everything one needs.
The Italian map not very update, and made mistakes. Tried to take us down vineyard very minor tracks. It’s slow finding we’re we were, and often we drove off waiting for it to walk up. Not as good as previous older model, I nearly sent it back!
Works well , as you would expect from tom-tom. It is a Go Basic , so no real ‘fancy’ features. Does the job it was bought for with minimal effort. 6 inch screen very good.
I found the device easy to set up, including downloading and installling the various software and map updates. In use it made navigating the last few miles to my destination a lot simpler, quicker, less stressful, and more reliable compared to my previous unassisted efforts at doing this.
The touch screen itself seems a little inaccurate at times, and sometimes you have to press in a slightly different postition than that indicated to a get some buttons to work. The display and voice features work together smoothly, and voice directions only come in when necessary – I did not find these in any way excessive or intrusive. There is also a good range of voices to choose from.
The manual included in the box will get you started, but is very limited and , to become familiar with all the device features and options, I recommend going to the TomTom website and downloading the full pdf version of the manual, or using the online html version. The device is very flexible in use, provided you know how best to access the various features.
I opted to purchase the air vent mount for it rather than attaching it to the windscreen, and found this to be an excellent alternative. It comes in two parts. One part attaches to the air vent, and the other (incorporating a ball and socket joint) attaches to the satnav, and in use simply clips on or off the part attached to the air vent in order to mount or remove the satnav. To attach this second part to the satnav, simply detach the stand that comes with the satnav, and fit the air vent mount instead. Note that the ball bearing type joint has a section removed from it, so adjust the position of this to make removal of the fitted stand easy, and likewise the fitting of the air vent socket joint. You will also need to reverse the direction of the detachable back plate.
The Basic model does take a microSD card, but the slot is tucked away under the detachable back plate and not immediately obvious until you look carefully. If necessary you can also check out the TomTom youTube video which shows where to find the memory card slot.. The TomTom site gives information on compatible memory cards .
All in all I am very happy with this purchase, and it has proved its value on a recent trip which provided an opportunity to get familiar with the satnav and see how how it performed on an unfamiliar journey and destination.
It’s great once I’ve managed to programme in where I’m heading too but I’m finding it difficult to use it easily. I’m sure there must be a way to go from A to B and select the route you want (where there are several options) but I’m just not sure how to do this. I’m quite sure this is due to my age and the fact I’m not very natsav savvy!
After my sat nav breaking down in my Nissan Juke and being advised by others that it would cost approx 2,500 to fix!!! This sat nav was a great solution and have been using it with ease.
So it works perfectly but it’s a bit delayed as you start your car takes time to give instructions you have to wait for like 5 minutes before it starts to show the directions but once started it’s perfect ….
The GO BASIC 6 is a bigger and generally better model than my previous 820 which ran out of memory for ever larger maps. Traffic, cameras & maps all work well. The only frustration if the difficulty of attaching/detaching from the holder without causing holder to come off the screen. Why on earth did they abandon the VERY simple and fool-proof magnetic holder on the 820? Otherwise excellent.
Bought this is replace a broken Go50, very similar operation, was initially concerned with the bluetooth rather than wifi hotspot connection but in operation everything works well
This is a great basic sat nav, it is easy to use, has an affordable price and gets you from A to B with no fuss accuracy.
It also has wireless charging and a good sized screen.
This is a great TomTom, the touch screen is very responsive and I can type quickly. I’ve had TomToms in the past and this has not been the case, but I am very impressed with this TomTom. My dad is a delivery driver and he uses this daily and has no complaints. Its very easy to update – only requires Wi-Fi. The display and sound are clear, and its easy to set up. It is compact to store. I am overall very impressed with this TomTom and it is worth the cost.
Bought this for my husband. We had a Tom Tom before which was really easy to use unfortunately it stopped working after a number of years. We tried a cheaper make but was very frustrating to use unlike the fab new Tomtom.
Easy to use with useful feature to download updates using wifi. Larger screen size makes it easier to view information.
The only problem I found was it was not clear how to add the property number to the postcode when planning a route. On my previous Tom Tom satnav the number screen appeared automatically.
These really are the best at making sat navs and with the WiFi connection updating is simple so easy to use and full of feature to ensure you arrive anywhere stress free
I got this to replace my old Tom Tom.
The bigger screen is great. It is easy to set up and the Wi FI is much better when updating maps.
It is much quicker than the old one too.
As an older lady who is rubbish with technology as well as directions I’m delighted how easy this is to use – total life saver as a community staff nurse!!
Its reliable enough but I find the new OS more painful and less easy to use than my old TomTom One. Nor does it seem to give you a choice of fastest or shortest route anymore and I’m blowed if I can work out how to find a map location and say take me there.
All I can say, is I’m glad it came with an app! Trying to enter an address on this thing is a nightmare, especially when in the middle of driving…need to add a stop? Well good luck, because it misreads where you tap, is either under sensitive or over sensitive and scrolling down is more difficult than it needs to be, if it even lets you scroll down.
I’ve had Tom Tom my whole driving life, with my last one being 40 less than this and lasting seven years. I only needed a new one after it got stolen from my car. – So safe to say I was really disappointed in this.
Never the less, when you’re actually on the road towards a destination, it’s one of the best sat navs out there. It tells you well within good time about turnings and exits off of roundabouts, which lane to be in etc with a great little zoom in too. You can’t underestimate how good a sat nav is, when it lets you know where you’re going, a few steps ahead. Nothing worse then coming off a slip road in the left and then finding out you’re meant to be taking the third exit off of a roundabout when you’re now stuck in the left lane going left only, because the sat nav only told you to come off the motorway and not the next step.
So if you’ve got the patience to tap billions of times before you are able to select your destination, then this is worth every penny. It also isn’t as good as my old sat nav in terms of data entry…put in a postcode and it doesn’t offer up a chance to choose which number or street!
The Tom Tom works really well and updates are received via the internet. The only thing is that the sucker pad keeps falling off the window. Other than that I am very happy with it. I needed to visit Scarborough and it found a really quick way.
very pleased with my new Tom Tom , I liked the fact that it is easy to use and the GPS is very fast with no lag,
the only problem I have had is with the suction pad which sometimes comes loose and the unit falls onto the floor,
apart from this I am very pleased
My previous Tom Tom GO 710 was bought 8 years ago and I was very pleased with the improvements made on my recent purchase of Tom Tom Go Basic. A good buy. The downloading of maps update was easy.
I am still smarting after tomtom declined to support my old via after 8 years but as it had worked brilliantly I went for this model and it is very good.
Many refinements over the years and I liked the updates which are free and seem bang up to date, the traffic app is also really useful Overall the system is very un fussy and intuitive to use.
My only criticism is it occasionally takes a random illogical diversion and there is seemingly no stand out way of avoiding a “direct route” which often involves narrow streets and roads. Reccomended
Generally great item. Though a mistake with not completing a download of an update or loss of wifi deletes the map completely, which takes an age to reload.
Purchased to replace obsolete TomTom unit. Operation very different from old unit . Easy to use once the new system of use was understood. Suction pad much more efficient than old unit. This item is efficient and effective.
I don’t like the way when you are driving without a destination the map doesn’t go the way of the road.
Early days yet as just started using it, did prefer old way of touching screen to use rather than using menu touch.
So far this has worked well. The ability to update directly via WiFi, without needing to connect to a computer, is useful. The larger screen makes viewing the directions much easier, including some very helpful split-screen presentations which make complex junctions easier to navigate.
I wish there was a simple volume adjustment wheel at the side of the casing so that volume could be quickly adjusted without having to remember icons and menu paths.
One other thing to note is that although this is advertised as having free lifetime traffic and maps, that does not include speed camera updates, after three months you would have to pay extra for those. Also, “lifetime”, according to the TomTom website is “the period of time that TomTom continues to support your device with software updates, services, content or accessories.” For our last device, this was about six years.
I bought this as a replacement for my TomTom Start which is now 7 years old. From Ipswich to Cornwall and surrounding areas with low mobile phone coverage
+ pro, – con
+ screen updates very often when moving round roundabouts and such. No confusion on which exit to take.
+ screen is large and very clear but reflects the light a little. Better than a phone screen, but not as good as a Kindle, for example. It wasnt particularly detrimental.
+ adding navigation points and rest break is super easy.
+ services and roadworks/congestion shows up on your “timeline” (the vertical bar on the right that describes your journey). Theres even a timer to how long it is till your next “event” (queue, service station etc)
+ instantly finds GPS where my old one had difficulty
+ maintains signal to GPS when mobile phone navigation would have long failed.
– Operates on “TomTom Minutes”, in which your journey time increases with no reason, even if you’re consistently ‘making good time’ *cough*. Example – 1hr 30 slowly worked up to 1hr40 even though there was no traffic
– Takes a while to boot up – about 20 seconds or more, when turned off (theres a sleep modem however i didnt try it)
– screen is not as sensitive to use as a phone screen. need a bit of pressure to work
– notifications for…something… seem to beep randomly without a corresponding event on screen
– advertises as free live traffic updates but you actually need to download an app and pair your mobile to it. The data used is really small though (less than 5MB for the whole week) so dont worry about that too much.
– seems expensive really for what actual useful functions it has.
Fantastic good value for money family easy to set it iup good instructions clear screen was able to relax and let it do the route would recommend as basic first time sat nav
Very easy to use, some locations are hard to locate
I wanted an easy to use satnav to use locally with no complications. This TomTom GO basic suits me very well. So far I am very pleased with it.
Voice is loud enough and gives plenty of warning also nice that there is a variety of voices
The product write up said you could link to a smart phone and lap top,but what as far as I could see only if you use an I phone not an android and it only works with a windows system and not chrome.
As to using the system that works okay.
Excellent value product, super user friendly interface (as you’d expect with TomTom)
smaller screen than previous one, not easy to get used to. Instruction handbook not easy to follow. I realise this will take time. Otherwise perfectly okay, seems to do everything one needs.

Screen needs a firm press to work and is a bit cumbersome
I found the device easy to set up, including downloading and installling the various software and map updates. In use it made navigating the last few miles to my destination a lot simpler, quicker, less stressful, and more reliable compared to my previous unassisted efforts at doing this.

I had previously used a different Sat Nav, this one however is vastly superior to my previous one. Excellent buy
exceeds my expectations , clear , precise and unobtrusive . The voice is very clear and the screen very easy to follow. Typical Tom Tom , brilliant .
It does everything you expected it would do and more. Great value product.
A little slow to down load updates but other than that it meets my needs
This replaced an old Tom Tom from about ten years ago and I’m really pleased with it.
Easy to use and easy to update via wifi
It’s great once I’ve managed to programme in where I’m heading too but I’m finding it difficult to use it easily. I’m sure there must be a way to go from A to B and select the route you want (where there are several options) but I’m just not sure how to do this. I’m quite sure this is due to my age and the fact I’m not very natsav savvy!
Have a Toyota hilux, sat nav is crazy, Tom Tom much better.
Good Sat nav needs to be connected with phone to get updates
After my sat nav breaking down in my Nissan Juke and being advised by others that it would cost approx 2,500 to fix!!! This sat nav was a great solution and have been using it with ease.

Well it works pretty my as you might hope, but I purchased it to replace a failed TT 600, although a lot less money it’s certainly a lesser product.
Bought this is replace a broken Go50, very similar operation, was initially concerned with the bluetooth rather than wifi hotspot connection but in operation everything works well
TomTom has stopped workingcan I return or exchange.
Only had it for 5 weeks.
I have the Tom Tom truck 6200 Mac as well
Tom Tom are very good
Such a great sat nav, easy to use and very accurate
Love that I can link it to my phone and use live traffic updates too
Instructions were clear and in plenty of time. It changed the route excellently to avoid a bad traffic jam.
Easy to use and accurate much happier with it than in car nav.
This is a great basic sat nav, it is easy to use, has an affordable price and gets you from A to B with no fuss accuracy.

Is TomTom so is one of the best Sat Nav , really good
I love this Tom Tom. Its easy and useful with lots of new features. Don’t use it too much but if we go anywhere for the first time it is invaluable
Large screen, accurate and easy to update but hard to attach to the windscreen and blocks the visibility slightly.
The difference between a 6 inch compared to the 4.3 inch is unbelievable. Well worth the extra bit of money.
I got this to replace my old Tom Tom.
The bigger screen is great. It is easy to set up and the Wi FI is much better when updating maps.
It is much quicker than the old one too.
Absolutely brilliant. Puts my old TomTom to shame. Easy to use and update. Very accurate. Good value for money.
Much more user-friendly and reliable than expensive, purpose-made motorhome Sat-Nav
As an older lady who is rubbish with technology as well as directions I’m delighted how easy this is to use – total life saver as a community staff nurse!!
Bought as a Christmas present for my mum to replace her very old tom tom.
She’s very happy.

Not one problem driving too Wales and all over Wales.
Bought the 6″ as the reviews were saying the 5″ had problems
Found none so far..

Clear information displayed
All seems good but only trird local so far. Will prove itseld later this year travelling further afield
Flydrive week in Poland. Location of aviation museum was/is wrong side of fence in an industrial estate probably 2km from entrance
