Very good sat nav for hgv. Upgraded from my old Tom.tom hgv sat nav that had done me.pround for last 8 years. Much quicker than my old one. Very impressed. A definite from me.

Great satnav thanks. Had issues with linking to my phone and getting data . This was because the app was not working. However after some time found out that all you have to do is Bluetooth tether it to your phone and then you can get traffic updates and it will divert you no problem . Very good quality

I got this when I was first went into HGV driving and still use it today.

I would recommend this product as it had a nice sized screen and it’s easy to use. You can enter your vehicles size in to the sat nav which “should” help you with avoiding any restrictions in place for your truck.

Some directions its tried to send me are very questionable, I quickly learned that you should never put too much trust into any type of satnav (Even if it claims to be a Truck SatNav). I always double check my routes with other navigation systems such as Google maps.

Easy to use and saves a lot of hassle that a certain map app beginning with G tends to cause.
It’s not perfect so you still need to pay attention as roads change and it might attempt to send you down a restriction.
It can’t seem to find a lot of places by name but will get you in the vicinity by postcode.
The map interface and voice instructions are clear and easy to understand.
At the sale price of 200 quid-ish this seems to be the best value sat-nav available.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA very useful satnav. Just started my new carrier as an artic driver and the company is using a driver facing camera with AI, which detects any touching of devices as well as other things. Voice control for navigation and answering the phone with built in microphone and speaker, very good. Quality of phone call is good enough to have conversation, of course dont expect the same quality as an airpod, but does the job well. Reading new messages via voice control, again, superb. For a lorry driver, its essential.

Out of the box, rapid response. All updates downloaded. And all seems fine. That was on the weekend.
Take it to work and use it, it’s a bit laggy on the menus. It navigates fine. Up to speed, no complaints. It’s just a little laggy when you go in to the menu.
    Glad I bought it.

Sometimes didn’t see the road closed or, if he sees, he take me on that road anyway
But excepted this, is a good GPS

Update* the truck maps are from 2019, they didn’t give me lates version for update. Some roads missing and I can’t update.
    GPS is bought in 2023

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI had a TomTom 5110 truck sat nav and thought I would update to a new model after all I have had the 5110 for 13 years, and it as served me very well top of the range it was, now then this arrived next day unpacked it and was pleasantly pleased with the ascetics larger than my 5110 by a whole inch a lot slimmer as well fired it up and followed the instructions it all went well updates took 20min over WiFi chuffed with that my old model was stuck to the computer for two hours for 3 minor updates, next day I put it in my lorry programed it, it was on a route I new very well my rig is 14ft 3inches of a went tiddly pop and the 620 burst into life, all well and good on the motorway, came of and it asked me yo turn right err ok I thought I normally turn left hey ho let it do the job its meant for, o yes it got me to my destination ok a 15mile detour to ovoid a 15ft bridge I normally travel under so I checked the sat nav and yes I had put the correct height in 14ft 3 inch plenty of room for me to pass under a 15ft, o well back it goes and I will stick to my old model, well they say if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it, such is life Update 1/5/23 o dear the reason it by past the 15 foot bridge was my mistake which only came to light when I was pulling a double decker as I went through the motions of programming my weight hight etcetera I had hit the number 6 instead of the 4 so had told it I was 16′ 3″ instead of 14′ 3″ so yes it would avoid a 5 foot bridge bit of a dumpling ain’t I lol so why the 4 stars it struggles in Manchester Town centre loosing the signal good job I know that place very well god knows how it would cope in London, the farest south I go is Nottingham and it gets me around there no problem I have looked at sat navs in the region of 800 and they get really bad reviews a lot worse than this tom tom 620 it also gets better reviews than its big brother the expert I honestly belive there is not a sat nav out there that would 100% satisfy 100% of truckers they all have there faults but as we find places update the maps things can only get better, I had the same with my tom tom 5110 loads of map corrections ie company’s using there home address for mail but the factory is 12 bloody miles away had that happen a few times or they had moved and not updated there delivery notes yep frustrating but we can not blame tom tom for that I will stick with it and eventually it may come good as I up date corrections.
For under 300 it really ain’t that bad.

I am overall happy with this product but was disappointed when setting it up that I have to pay an addition subscription for the traffic updates for my chosen route.
The free Map updating is good.

Works well but a little slow. Screen is good quality as is the unit, its quite accurate but not as updates as google maps. I deliver to building sites which are new roads and new estates etc. Roughly 6-7 timea per week it doesnt recognise postcode or street name so i still have to use google maps quite often. It at least once per week takes me over weak bridges and down roads i shouldnt be on. Its ok is all ill say.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTom Tom.
A name you (should) be able to trust where navigation is concerned.
Sadly, this truckers sat nav ships with out-of-date maps & needs money to be spent on updating it.
The touch screen is OK, but other makers have now surpassed it.
I spent the money on the updates as this was a gift for me from my wife, but given a choice, there are better units out there than Tom Tom.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI like the slightly larger screen. Makes it easier to see. I would say it’s 95% accurate so far. It’s taken me round a couple of places where I couldn’t go under the bridge. But other than that it’s quite good. I will no doubt get their Tom Tom drive app and pay to connect it to my phone which will give me live traffic. A friend has a far more expensive truck nav, and it’s no different to this one. So I’d say it’s pretty good for the money.

Great bit of kit, just changed jobs after 21 years driving for a company so know my way around but it’s usually that last few miles and this is so accurate, if you pinpoint your destination it’ll take you exactly, hasn’t let me down yet in 8 weeks,
only issue I have come across is it sometimes shows a road as restricted when it’s not, this I think is down to users adding road restrictions incorrectly and sharing them though

    Absolutely awesome and accurate

Certainly a useful asset to and large vehicle driver. It’s easy to use and its very easily visible screen makes it great all day long in the sunny weather. It hasn’t let me down yet and I drive different size vehicles every single day. I highly recommend

I really like the sat nav but after using it for 4 weeks I wish I’d paid extra to get the version with the sim card in for live traffic. The Tom tom drove app needed for live update with your data never works unless you use your phone as a hotspot which in turns eats your data unless you have unlimited. Other than that it works great I’ve used it in an artic 19 ton and my motorhome it gets you where you want to go with no dramas but get the sim version lot easie

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m still debating whether to send it back to Amazon, I had the 5 inch version of this tomtom before and that sometimes made mistakes but this one with same software is making far more. It sometimes makes me go well out the way for no reason. Send me back roads that are not necessary or suitable for a 40 ton artic.

Use this in the truck and its spot on every time. I tend to use coordinates rather than post codes as they just give an area coordinates get you to the gate you need. This device gives you all the info you need, traffic, speed cameras the lot. This is the sim card version slightly more expensive but well worth it. The unit isn’t cheap but you get what you pay for and with this it’s well worth the money. Highly recommend.

When using dartford tunnel it tries to divert me off, but coming the other way over the bridge no problem. So you need to know where you are heading before settling off, which sort of defeats the purpose of the sat-nav.

I have been using this TomTom model for about a month now, it’s ideal for the type of work I do (artic truck) It has on a couple of occasions directed me down a dubious route, but as someone has already pointed out, a bit of thought needs to be used, before entering certain roads. The satnav isn’t something to blindly follow, have a quick look at the route, if it looks a bit iffy, select alternative route and the satnav works it out for you, simples.
It’s easy to use and I would definitely recommend it.
I did have an issue regarding my lifetime traffic, which had expired, but a live chat with TomTom on line had the problem resolved within 10 mins.

I’ve used this device for a couple of months now and it does a decent job in routing/re-routing. However there are a few annoyances which, if I’d known about before I would have thought twice about spending so much on the device.

Firstly, inputting things on the screen is VERY slow – touch the ‘search’ icon and there’s a 3-4 second delay before it responds. Slightly shorted delays for inputting data but still annoying.

Secondly, important things on the screen are quite small – the right-hand section needs to be quite close to the viewer to make sense, which for a ‘professional’ device is a real ‘no-no’, VOSA do not like drivers to be that distracted.

Thirdly, there’s no easy option to set group parameters (Garmin allows you to choose all-in unit/trailer sizes rather than having to re-input individual trailer heights before each leg or a trip).

Another issue I’ve found, after a bit more use, is that this device is lacking the option to use motorways in preference to minor roads – with an LGV this is often essential and other devices seems to have this facility.

There are a few other annoyances that I can put up with, as with any device, but as always, I suspect this has been designed by someone who has not used it in real life.

A great piece of kit, especially if your a lorry driver. For years I’ve always used those cheap 40 quid Chinese built satnavs but map was always out of date, so I went and paid for a proper satnav and this tomtom is fantastic. Easy to use and sets up in minutes. All the latest maps all the time and real time traffic info. We’ll worth spending that bit extra for a proper satnav. 5 stars from me.

Used a Snooper S7000 for 8 years, never really happy with the ‘live’ TMC. It’s screen failed when I went to change the brightness, Snooper wanted 30 up front to inspect and another 30 + parts and labour to repair if it could. They also suggested that it was at the end of it’s life and perhaps buying a S6900 would be better. For a couple of weeks I used the inbuilt DAF satnav, which I rapidly discovered was a danger to my licence – roads unsuitable for hgv were regularly recommended. During this time Snooper stopped promoting the S6900!! So why try to sell me one. So after being cheated out of the life time map updates and continually paying monies for traffic camera updates, being left aghast that the major roadworks on the A15 at Lincoln, where not being advised, left me with the impression that Snooper had a culture of ripping off anyone and everyone. Never again. Hmmm why did Lymm stop supporting them.
So I had used a TomTom 6200, supplied by the company I work for, for approx. 6 months over a year ago. The live update was actually live. The operating system took a while to get used to but it was a good experience.
Updating to the 6250 was a no brainer. Really. 8 years too late.
Still early days, but one gripe. Only one profile. If you change trailer size, you have to amend the one and only one profile size(s), dimensions, and not just swap to another profile. But on the other hand it makes you check and add the correct dims. Other than that all good and a very happy trucker.

Put this satnav up against my old one. I found that my old satnav was more accurate at final location, easier to set the vehicle dimensions and never put me in front of a low bridge on the route, this Tom Tom did , setting up the vehicle dimensions I found a little harder than previous HGV satnav I’ve owned, lane guidance good , only tells you the motorway junction your turning off at as you get to it not miles in advance, not great at avoiding 7.5 ton routes, and have found that the routing for the vehicle dimensions if you have to divert especially in London ( inside M25) is often a real challenge as a C+E driver to negotiate the route it wants you to go

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI’ve had this satnav for over a month. Use it nearly daily and compared to my previous TomTom 5150, which was admittedly out of data and didn’t do live traffic. This one is worlds better!

The Wifi hotspot from your phone to update maps and get live traffic is the best feature! Driving loads during the night, I’m quite pleased to have avoided a lot of Motorway closures due to the “Live Traffic” as well as the occasional accident too!

A complaint however is the fact that when you ask for a route but a parameter of your truck is unsuitable, it’ll give you a banner which say it but still plans the route. Doesn’t tell you what the issue could be. If you miss the banner, you could be heading towards a Low Bridge without knowing it.

Slows down. Often trying to quickly change something, the nav will just become very slow and unresponsive. This is much worse if its hot. Try avoid putting the device in your windshield as the device will get very hot and just switch off. But considering there isn’t many other places to put it. This becomes problematic.

I bought this for work as I drive artics for a living, I have had to use it now on a couple of occasions with road closures etc.

It was excellent, the old saying, you get what you pay for is definitely the case here, this is a quality unit and I would definitely recommend it, easy to use as well, really well thought out operating system, but that’s always the case with Tom Tom.

Also this unit can be set to different vehicle types
    HGV
    Coach or bus
    Van
    Car

As such it calculates your arrival time correspondingly to the vehicle it is set for & the suitability of the route taken, dependant on the vehicle in which it is set to navigate.

So if you’re on the fence as to whether to buy this unit, just go ahead and buy it, you won’t regret it.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis is clearly significantly more technically advanced than the Hieha satnav that I have been using in my truck for the last few years (see separate review). However, this TomTom satnav is definitely overpriced for what it is. The Hieha currently sells for about 46, whereas this TomTom product is currently over 270. Big difference.

I wanted to reward myself for passing my artic test on the first attempt, so I waited until Black Friday and bought the TomTom when it was just over 200. It was a bit of a shock going down to a smaller screen size, but it was nice that it acts as a hands-free for my mobile phone. It also gives you the option for it to read out text messages as they are received on your phone.

I also like the fact that it tries to guess where you might be going next. So, for example, I regularly do trailer swaps where I take an empty trailer anywhere around the UK, then always take the full trailer that I have collected back to our customer in Kettering. So it often asks me ‘Are you going back to Kettering?’ and gives a YES button and a NO button. Nice touch.

What isn’t so nice is that it randomly decides to turn itself off and back on again whilst I am driving, probably once a day or maybe every other day. Bit disconcerting. Not what you would expect from a 270 device. The map updates work better with the TomTom than with the Hieha. I update it by connecting it to my PC at home, same as the Hieha, but it’s nice that the TomTom device tells you when there are new updates available, in the main menu. Updates seem to appear roughly once a month, whereas Hieha didn’t update their UK map for about two years. Pity that there don’t seem to be any silly voices available on TomTom, like the crazy squirrel voice that I used to have in my Garmin satnav.

Another thing that can be a bit frustrating is the small buttons that it puts up on the screen, such as the YES and NO choices mentioned earlier, or when you have an incoming call and it gives you a button in the bottom right corner to accept the call, or you want it to read out an incoming text message. In a truck your device tends to be quite a long way away from you, quite a long reach, because a truck cab is much bigger than the area where the driver sits in a car. It’s a small screen anyway (compared to my Hieha) and you have a very small button, and it’s easy to jab at a button and hit somewhere else on the coloured bar. When that happens, the whole bar disappears! So they need to move the YES and NO buttons a bit further apart, then allow you to touch somewhere in the general area of a button to activate it.

You set up the options how you want them so, as an example, I set my satnav never to use toll roads. With the Hieha this would mean that it would never, ever send me over the Dartford crossing, which is a toll crossing. TomTom have a much more practical solution. It will send you over the Dartford crossing, but when it has calculated the route it will flash a warning across the top of the screen, telling you that part of the route doesn’t meet your preferred options. It would be better if that warning stayed up a bit longer. It would also be nice if there was a bigger button to click if you wanted more info, instead of the tiny line of text that you can click on now.

Another thing that takes a bit of getting used to is it working as a hands free unit for your phone. Obviously that’s great when you’re driving, but can be a bit of a pain in the backside if you’re out of the truck but have left the ignition on. If someone rings you and you swipe the phone to accept the call, or you ring someone from outside the truck, the satnav will promptly ‘hijack’ the call, meaning that you can’t hear them and they can’t hear you (until you climb back into the cab). I have always left the ignition on in the past when leaving the truck, mainly so that I can obtain an instant response from my tachograph (by pressing the down button) of how long I have been waiting or been on other work, or on break. Now I have to try to get into the habit of leaving the ignition off when I’m not in the vehicle.

So although this product is good, it definitely could still be improved further. I would probably be willing to pay about 200 for one, but no more. So I agree with the other reviewer who said that this TomTom product is currently priced at about 75 more than it should be.

Great device gets the job done will with plenty of updates iv entered 100+ address’s with 90% been spot on with the location. It lost 1 star because sometime it an just feel a little slow when entering address’s and I get service unavailable alot for traffic updates and my drive but this issue usually fixes itself after a while or just a restart will do. Definitely recommend a case.

I bought this because I recently purchased a motorhome and don’t want to get stuck down some narrow path. So far it has proved its worth.

Got this as my old one started to let me down.
Works well do love that I can update it really easy.
As last one was a pain. I use the traffic via my phone works great. As work nights there always night closures and it’s been spot on so far.
And the average speed when in average speed zones is good too. Pair Bluetooth can be a pain at first but you get use to it.

TomTom is a good product, my only concern is downloading updates on wifi. Tried this and 30 minutes in the Santa post wifi and the device lost all maps.
After a quick USB connection to my laptop and download of the TomTom software the Satnav was updated.

I’ve found the voice control picks and chooses when to listen. You can change the call command but even after that its touch and go. Screen is a little slow to react but for the most part is a great sat nav

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDecent sized screen, sits nicely on the corner of my windscreen. Haven’t had a mis-route yet. Bluetooth/phone connection works on point, updates are regular. Traffic updates are very handy and seem to reflect traffic in live time, which has saved me from joining the back of a long queue a few times.
Hands free isn’t the best, in fact a downgrade from my last from Tom Tom – hard to hear calls.
A minor thing, overall am happy with it.

    Good truck-nav system.

As a car transporter driver I need a satnav that copes with bridge heights etc. So far it’s been excellent never been wrong.
I had a cheap Chinese satnav with bridge heights etc on it but it doesn’t come close to the Tomtom 620XL

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersLook: don’t pay attention to bad reviews here. Every single sat nav has the same complaints from people but keep in mind it doesn’t drive for you. You still have to use your brain and make decsions. Some of these guys seem to be using these navs to baby them through driving like the one who says it led him down a dead end. Surely that’s a brain override decision.

I’m gonna tell you what this nav is the best on the market by far on. If you are a night trunker like me then get it. Sure it alot more than just a cheap one but the traffic and roadworks and closures update is about 85 percent accurate. When highways ‘anythings possible’ England closes a road this nav will pick it up and reroute you. Use that alongside your brain and you will never go wrong. The screen is not slow is average. Its usability is honestly great.

What this nav is not good for: look if you are doing multi drop. There is no satnav in the world which will be good for you. Brain power goes up over the nav. You cant complain about that. That’s the job that you do.

This Nav is one of the best and worth the high price.

I had have used Tomtom for past 11years now and used to own an old one which was very fast and accurate, this new devices are quite slow when it comes to operate, i have given a touch screen only a three stars because of its speed of response…
It still tends to send a big truck the narrow roads but i think you will get it with all of devices.
Overal i still think it is the best product on the market for trucks but need to get used to it.

I have been using Tom Tom 6250 now for approx 5 wks , set up for trucks
I find it very accurate as I have my points to deliver to set in grid ref not post code , so they are spot on
The live traffic is spot on
I find you’ve just got to try n trust the sat nav
At first when it would divert me I would get a bit anxious , but it has never yet sent me anywhere I should not be
I am very happy with the screen and the info it gives you to the right of the screen
I do find that when it diverts and you come to a complicated junction , you’ve just got to take ya time , as you could quite easily take the wrong route by rushing and not reading it correctly
That would be my fault though not the sat nav
Overall at the moment very happy
I am a brand new class one driver with only several wks experience , so this has been a god send
It has taken me into London wembley area a few times and not failed me

Been using car nav then bought a cheap truck one that has not been wrong in all the time I’ve used it but with the state of the traffic in today’s never stop world I’ve decided to push the boat out and hopefully this’ll see me to retirement 8 yrs.
Only been using it a few days but as of yet it’s been bang on.
Having independent traffic instead of having to use smartphone connection is in my opinion worth a little bit more.
As with anything that can use voice commands it can be a tad frustrating.
Good lane 3d guidance some of the speed limits are wrong but that can be corrected by sending reports etc.
I did find the phone call connection s little bit quiet.
    Other than that pretty good.

Even if it’s designed for HGV do not forget to use your brain and look for signs as probably with other genuine sat navs.
    Generally satisfied with purchase

  81. Lauren Hughes says:

Overall a good sat nav but could do with a faster processor as it lags and becomes unresponsive at times and better route planning as you will find avoiding certain routes for no reason at all. An example from Harlow to Ipswich instead of taking you M11N A120W A12 (short and faster route) it will take you back via M11S M25 (adding over 20 miles and 20 min to your journey for no reason)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst-class piece of kit. Takes a while to get used to as it does things differently to previous TomToms I’ve owned, but once you’ve used it a bit, it is brilliant. Be careful reading the reviews on here as Amazon tend to clump several very different items together. The 620 GPS Professional Truck sat-nav is awesome. Buy it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA brilliant bit of kit, well worth the money. The only downside is when driving along any road with the radio on or when having a conversation with someone, it stops navigating and states “I didn’t catch that can you repeat” and then wont here you say cancel, so you have to stop to press the cancel button, even when the cab is quiet it “do you want to go to City Glass” or “do you want to find a fuel station”

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis super Tom Tom Pro,works beautifully compared to my old 520 go,ive learn to trust the new Pro, with the correct post code has bought me right next to the security gaurds kettle (in time for a cuppa lol) it does so much more (yet to discover) but it has paid for its self in the few months ive had it,so if your a Pro driver like me,and need a new best friend, buy one of these (update done through wifi at home,it lets you know when updates are available) well worth the price if you on the go or multi dropping, takes you correct routes to avoid low bridges,(only a guide)with all satnavs you need to look b4 you leap…great product…
