This was great tool for the job not as strong as I would have liked but does do the job for the money I can’t complai
Made short work of breaking up a small concrete floor. Having its own case very useful and its not too noisy
I needed something to break a large lump of concrete from around a rusted Metpost which had sheared from the spikes which were set some 18 inches into the ground.
I found this tool online at a discounted price. Delivery was excellent, as was the tool. Broke up the concrete almost like butter. The only I have is the mechanism by which you have to insert, or remove either of the supplied chisels is a bit fiddly but, overall, it saved me hours of time and would easily recommend the VonHaus Electric Concrete Breaker Demolition Hammer.
Brought for my partner for a birthday present
He was over the moon with it.many thanks Amazo
I work in construction. Mostly labouring but I’m working on my own garden and needed to skim some excess of a slab that my bosch pro sds breaker wasn’t touching. This is a heavy duty machine. A bit heavy to weild but for the price I can say nothing bad about it. Got the job done in a day. Perhaps won’t last as long as a makita or Bosch but how much will you use it? If you want a proper breaker that can get any job done on the cheap. This is really good value. Impressed.
Says it came with oil when checked it was pretty much empty, maybe had about 20mins worth of drilling before complety empty. Power cord needs to be a little longer but its an ok product for the price
The only issue I had with the tool. It didn’t come with any oil refils, the provide refill bottle was empty and the tool itself was supplied with oil level below the recommended use level.
So just in case, I would pick up a bottle of 15W40 oil. You can find it for a few quid on amazon. Or just about any other car parts place. Like halfords.
Other than the oil issue. The tool is great. And absolute saviour for removing concrete, taking only seconds to set up. So even for smaller jobs it isn’t a bother to use at all. Nice case. With wheels making it easy to transport. Supplied with 2 chisels a stake style and a small wedge style. Both worked well.
Takeled a block wall with ease, later used it to break up a 6 inch concrete slab . Starting at the edge and moving into the centre.
Great tool to own, even if you only used it intermittently. The cost of renting one soon adds up in just a few days. That you might as well just own one for yourself for this price range.
The tool case provided has wheels which is super helpful, saves your back, the tool itself is stainless steel bodywork rather than cheap plastic which is great. Although it is a demolition breaker ,for a demolition breaker it is a lot quieter than i expected which is a bonus especially indoors or confound spaces. The power cables a bit shorter than I’d like but nonetheless really good quality build, simple to use. It doesn’t use much oil but obviously keep checking the oil tank. As stated before what should’ve been hours worth of work was done in about 10 minutes.
Bought this tool to brake massive concrete blocks, dismantle brick walls and to brake down old granite tiles. All jobs in my garden. I’m petite female, so it’s more than 1/3 of my weight and understandably it is heavy but I understand, it has to be and it does exactly what I purchased for.
And it did arrive much sooner than I expected.
Many thanks guys
This is a beast smashes through concrete no problem. It’s really easy to set up and the case is convenient. If you need one of these for more than 3 days then buying this is actually cheaper than renting one.
…which was digging out (using a spade attachment bought separately) a bank in a garden. Also used to break up some tree roots. Made the whole job possible. Recommended.
The machine in general is absolutely brilliant and I can assure you it will break threw anything reason for the 4star is the oil they provide was leaked and broke all over the case and the breaker other wise 5stars
Needed to break up a concrete wall and a couple of greenhouse bases , this was just the job and far cheaper than hiring one. Very heavy, so need to be careful handling it. Only one gripe with a name like Vonhaus, I assumed it was German, but unfortunately it is made in China, so how long it will last. time will tell
Used to break up 8m x 5m concrete base. No issues what so ever. Brother now using it for his work. Peace of mind get the insurance policy. 3 year replacement for under 30
Excellent value for money. Makes breaking concrete an easy job.
Been using it in several jobs for the last couple of months and works like new.
Remember to check the oil level.
Definitely recommend this breaker.
Only had this for about 6months main chisel sleeve cracked with out any force on i
Very heavy and you have to control the machine otherwise it can pull you over. Breaks up the concrete very well. Good value.
My concrete drive was so easy to break up with this, highly recommend. Comes with standard plug also which is handy. Buy the oil it needs at the same time to make sure you can keep running it, as this can need topping up after 3 hours use.
Does the job. Perfect seller and good product for the price I have paid.
Excellent and had already removed many many concrete posts and dug holes for new ones with ease
I had an old concrete garden path, approximately 50 feet long and 2 feet wide.
I started breaking it with a 10lb sledge hammer. It was very hard work, but I managed about two- thirds of the length before my back ache told me to give in.
I also got to part of the path which was up to 9 inches deep and resisted my hammering efforts.
The drill is very sturdy. It’s robust and heavy, so my back still ached, but I broke up the remaining concrete in 2-3 hours working in short stretches.
The drill bit was easy to fit and there was oil in the reservoir. It came in a good sturdy case.
Handling it required some strength, but I eventually worked out how to use it to best effect, after drilling too deep and getting the bit stuck.
Safety equipment is essential.
I recommend getting a good long pry bar to help you remove the broken pieces of concrete. I ordered one from Amazon, but it never arrived.
It was well worth the money when you consider the cost of hire.
I did struggle to fit it back into the case afterwards.
Point broke whilst using 2nd time.cannot get a replacement anywhere
Rather heavy to use and not as good as the sort you can hire in terms of speed of breaking concrete but definitely good value for money for more occasional use.
Really excellent value for the money, made light work of the path
I got this to replace a Titan Breaker which failed after yrs of use,
VonHause my comments-
Good – an excellent breaker easily breaks up 6 to 8 inches of concrete, It is well built, comes with a hande carry case with wheels and the Von Hause Cusomer Services are among the best ive encounterd they handled my issue effectivly and resolved them to my satisfaction.
Bad – The Lead is too short and needs to be another metre long at least, the body of the machine is short (compared to the Titan) so I have to slightly bend to use and the first machine supplied did not work BUT this was quickly replaced without fuss.
I would buy another VonHause Breaker again (hopefully I dont need to).
This breaker arrived in a very sturdy but very heavy (22 Kg plus) box. Inside the plastic carrying box are the breaker itself, two different shaped chisels – one pointed and the other flat, some instructions and a few accessories like an oil bottle.
Having read other reviews I bought some engine oil as recommended in the instructions and made sure that it had sufficient before I began to use it (mine was about half full out of the box with some indication of seepage in the container.) I used it to break up some poured concrete at the edge of the house which was causing water to pool and seep in to the house. It was so effortless to use it the I was almost disappointed! It cut through the concrete alarmingly easily – taking just a few seconds to remove the offending bits. I am now waiting for some scaffolding to remove an old chimney pot.
The plastic case is quite flimsy and needs care – it is more of a storage case than a rugged protection case so I do not think it would last very long bouncing around in the back of a van.
Overall I am very impressed with this breaker kit – it comes with everything ready to go and is very powerful in use. And it costs about the same as hiring one for a few days. Recommended.
was spending hours trying to break up concrete with a pick. this did the job in half an hour. its well made, relatively easy to use. its heavy but then that’s why it breaks up concrete. well made and with a reasonably robust case. I imagine you don’t get the same vibration as from a petrol hammer. This is purposed to be a demolition breaker, I nearly bought a dual function drill and hammer chisel. glad I didn’t.
Not bad. Done the job through some pretty solid concrete
I used this marvellous tool for breaking up chunks of concrete and tarmac, as well as digging up small sections of tarmac where I was unable to use a digger.
It was only a small fraction of the cost of a breaker that would be used on a building site and ideal for occasional jobs around our property. It ended up saving me a lot of money. It would have cost many times more to pay someone else to do the work or to hire a professional breaking machine to do the work myself.
First thing of course was to use a pair of protective eye goggles and to put in ear plugs. I also wore a helmet just in case I fell over any debris. In addition, I had a dust mask on to avoid inhaling any dust as well as pair of gloves. The instructions also advise you to use metal toe boots. The goggles saved my eyes many times from flying bits and the ear plugs made the sound bearable.
Make sure you have the oil filled up — take off the easy to remove small metal cover and then pour in the oil without filling it to the brim. The instructions said that the oil you require is 15w40, not sure if that can vary, might be best to wait to see what the instructions you get say about what you should use in terms of oil. Some oil was in the machine already when it arrived and a small amount had spilled in the case — that seems to be fairly common from what I’ve read, it’s clearly not a perfect seal, but no big deal, just wipe it up. You need to make sure that it has enough oil in it before you start work of course in order to avoid causing damage.
It takes you a few minutes to get used to. You need to apply some downwards pressure yourself to make it work otherwise it just goes up and down without effect, but you can use its own weight for the most part. With the pointed chisel it cut up large loose chunks of concrete with no problem. Just keep the chisel no more than about 6 inches or less of the edge so that chunks will split off easily. If you try going straight in to the middle of a large chunk you could end up getting it jammed in and without splitting the concrete.
If you are cutting up tarmac you need to use the wide headed chisel otherwise it goes straight in without splitting and can get jammed in these circumstances also. Break up loose blocks of tarmac with the wide headed chisel cutting no more than about 6 inches from an edge. If breaking up tarmac that’s still in the ground you need to cut more like 4 inches from an edge to work effectively.
I always kept a pick axe and a sledgehammer handy in case the breaker did still get stuck, which it did several times. I would use the pick axe to lever away the concrete, or whack the tarmac or concrete a couple of times with the sledgehammer near the breaker to loosen it in order to get the breaker out. Often it was more effective and a faster job to lever the tarmac apart with the pick axe after making the split with the breaker.
All in all, a great tool for a bargain price. Best to wear old overalls if you can as otherwise you can get a lot of oil on your clothes whilst working due to the slow leaking of oil from the breaker.
Love this tool, I’ve been smashing up patios and concrete and all sorts of hard surfaces for renovating my garden. Couldn’t be happier and so easy to use. I have already got my money’s worth out of it.
Started breaking up an old brick framework and foundations of a wooden greenhouse measuring some 3 metres by 12 metres, yes it was huge, and quickly realised this was going to take forever.
What with lockdown and not being sure how long it would take I decided to buy my own Kango and so glad I did, making mincemeat of the concrete and brick and getting the job done so much faster than I would have been able to with hand tools.
Quite heavy, as you would expect, so just have to hold it in place and let the tool do its stuff, seems well made so should last for all the jobs I ever need to do around the house.
I initially purchased a smaller breaker, (240v 1600watts ) and it just wasnt up for the job. This is a perfect ground breaker for concrete. Easily worked the concrete slab that was reinforced with a 10mm mesh at 150mm centres. Highly recommend for the money. Dont forget your ear muffs and some eye protection when buying.
If you follow instructions it’s worth the money. Used it once to sort garden post out worked a treat. Took out 15 posts without a problem and also took away some concrete in the garden. It’s like butter breaking the most hard to break stuff.
Quite heavy, but for the money is still good value and makes light work of 6 inch concrete floor.
Its heavy – it has to be. But not too heavy that even I cant use it horizontally for a spell. Very effective. Makes mincemeat of brickwork or concrete. Easy to use. The oil chamber does come with oil inside but not enough to hit the recommended level, so add some yourself before use – any car engine oil will do.
Easy to use and broke up the concrete base very quickly. Might feel a bit heavy for some people but well balanced with its two handles.
Scott says it’s fecking epic! Lots of oomph, great for breaking concrete and through dense block walls.
worked straight out of box oil already in chamber seems to be ok not done much ye
Needed to take up an old concrete floor this proved to be an excellent piece of kit and quite Powerful.
great product. Did all that was asked of it on my diy project. I’m sure it will be used a number of times of future projects of mine or the kids! Take note of the comments regarding topping up the oil before use. Mine was low too.
Very pleased with the performance of this breaker. The finish of the product is not up to top brands
but for the price I cant fault it.
Excellent bit of kit comes in a sturdy case witch even has wheels so you can pull it along the ground make sure you read the instructions carefully because it does tell you to check the oil level and what oil to buy
Even though this is sold as a DIY appliance, it’s bloomin meaty: it’s also bloomin heavy.
Works on 250 volt so no transformers required.
The two supplied chisels are all you’ll ever need, ..
– And the wee’ beasty ripped into my concrete drive like it wasn’t there.
I can honesty recommend this for heavy breaking work.
NOTE! – Make sure that you put some oil in it before use, pictures of the procedure supplied.
Well impressed, and a brilliant price.
Ten out of ten.
It was cheaper to buy this Breaker than hire one for 3 days. Used it to dig out fence posts which had been concreted in. Did the job very well.
Used this today to break up a 10 sqm and 10cm deep concrete block in my garden. Breaking it down to pieces small enough to chuck took a total of an hour to do with this tool so I’m very impressed. If you want to make the pieces any smaller than that then a sledge hammer is best to finish the job.
Gives a fair amount of feedback which can become sore but soon after use I didn’t feel any pain in my wrists.
Needed something to demolish an old wall under a border. Decided on the VonHaus due to the cost of renting and the price of this. To be honest, when it arrived I thought ‘what on earth have I bought – this is a bit OTT’. But no, this is just what was needed, breaks up old paving slabs and slices through concrete. Also used it to break up some old large boulders we’d wanted to get rid of. Spent about 2-3 hours using it in total, and it made light work of the job. It’s heavy, which is a positive as it helps the tool do it’s job, but after a couple of hours I thought I’d got it stuck , but it was just my arms were so fatigued I could barely lift it anymore! Nice prompt delivery too.
Fantastic piece of equipment. Used to break up concrete and rubble from old fencing. Save yourself lots of back breaking work and get it done in a jiffy.
The jack hammer is a awesome piece of kit for the money but the plastic carry case is very delicate and turned up with the wheels broken through the case.Requires a metal case
I had three areas of different depths of concrete to break. This heavy machine went through it all just like a knife through butter. At the price it was better than going to the wasted expense of hiring a machine from the local hire shop.
Used a few times and well pleased with the results worth the money.
Having researched the price to hire a breaker and assessed the work I needed to do at home, the Vonhaus has proved to be a cost effective alternative to hiring an item or paying someone else to do the job.
You do need to add engine oil (which does not come with the product) for first use, but other than that, getting started is relatively simple.
The instructions are not the best in the world, but you quickly work it out as there are not many moving parts.
Today is my second day of using it, I think there will probably be three days on this project. If it lasts the 3 days then it will have proved to be a cost-effective purchase (against a rental alternative). No doubt I will use again to get my moneys worth, but certainly on this project, it has proven to be a more cost effective alternative to hiring.
For the price I wasn’t expecting great results but i figured it was cheaper to buy a cheap breaker than hire one. This did the job perfectly, I initially used to break up an old concrete patio area and it tacked this with ease. I then had to take the old base of the conservatory but little did I know this was 10 Inches thick is some places. This little bargain still made micemeat of this. For those who haven’t used one of these before, use the wide attachment for thinner concrete and the spike one for thicker stuff.
i have just used this tool to break out 20 square metres of concrete at 10in deep it was like a knife through butter very very impressed, on the downside it can become quite heavy after long use, and the electric lead could be longer, all in all though i would highly recommend this breake
Fantastic item. No regrets, works great. Great value for money.
As the only engineer in my extended family, it regularly falls on me to provide services beyond the capabilities of the others. Recently, a broken post on a lychgate at a house that we let out required attention. It was set in about two feet of concrete. I have purchased many Von Haus tools through our engineering business [angle grinder, nail gun, verniers etc] so was fairly confident in the expected quality of the tool. This breaker went through two feet in no time leaving few marks on the pointed and chisel bits. I can confirm that the breaker is well constructed, sturdy and robust, packed well in a heavy duty plastic case with tools required for non specialist maintenance. It has a top up carry bottle for the 15w40 motor oil that it takes. The breaker was pre-filled with oil and worked straight out of the box with little reference to the included instruction book. As a bonus, it is 230v which means that an expensive extra 110v transformer is not required. The plastic box is functional though not tough. More important though is that it is a tough tool in a weaker box rather than the other way around. After all, what do you expect for 120?
What can I say it’s a nice bit of kit but no tools with i
Good tool
Broke out to flights of concrete stairs no issue other than the chisel broke.
Steels are not that great
4 star all day long
Brilliant bit of kit for the price, sorted a old wall in no time, easy to use and instruction straightforward, small draw back cable length, easy to fit each bit in housing click and twist lock, good power and control.
This bracker is a blinding bit of kit I will be using it to dig out fence posts around 15 just buy it .
Great piece of equipment for the price. I used this to create holes for 13 fence posts and had smash though concrete as they were next to a kerb. This got through the job in no time at all.
1 star knocked off as you need to buy oil and you cannot adjust the speed.
Works well but be careful of the vibration transfer into your hands and arms.
Absolutely amazing for the money, demolished a 1ft thick concrete wall.
As previously stated, this should come pre-loaded with oil but mine was empty – make sure you check the oil level before use and if necessary fill up. You’ll wreck it if you don’t.
The Kango is comparable to several other much more expensive machines I had been renting in term of its breaking power. I have been using it for a few hours a day for the last few days and it seems to be as capable as more expensive machines. How durable it is time will tell.
No complaints in terms of usefulness very pleased.
Externally it is robust with no obvious weak points or design defects.
The carry case which it came in as has been reported is really only a storage box, when it arrived the hinges were already damaged. The Blowmoulded plastic is not strong enough to take a tool of this weight but is ok when the machine is packed away in it.
So far the one draw back or lacking this machine has is in its shock absorption.
Bearing in mind I have previously been renting machines that retail at well over 1000 euro. But by comparison this tool is much harder on the operator. There appears to be no spring or absorption in the handle. I taped some armaflex pipe insulation around the handle and used padded gloves but this was only a partial dampening.
Again we are comparing machines that are more than 10 times more expensive but it may be a factor in some ones decision to buy or rent.
Certainly for long usage periods where work is not stop start this could be an issue.
The case the drill comes in, is far too weak to carry such a heavy duty product.
So just be careful when carrying it, or wheeling it etc!!.
I topped it up using the recommended oil. Then I greased the end of the drill bit, before inserting into the hammer drill itself – and locking it in place. Then a press on the trigger and Bingo. The drill was working a treat as it broke up an old concrete drive with ease.
With been such a heavy drill it offers a massive difference to the hammer action. There is no need to do anything more than let the drill prove its worth.
And it is worth buying – that is for certain, as long as one is careful with the case!
So I hope this review helps others in their choice.
I am 100% satisfied.
40 just to hire a hammer Breaker for the day, that’s what I was quoted. Cheaper to buy one.
Look around and came across the VonHaus 1500w Hammer Drive. Believe me the VonHaus done the job
With ease. My neighbour borrowed it to brake up a old base his old shed stood on saved him time and money hiring one. Easy to use, comes in a plastic case with 2 hammers, Alan Keys, oil bottle etc.
This did a great job at breaking up a 10ftx10ftx8inch slab of concrete foundation.
The fact that VonHaus have a dedicated website and that they use the hard plastic case (compared to the flimsy metal case that other brands use) were favourable deciding factors for me.
Also the wattage, whilst it’s not the highest wattage (1500W) this is actually pretty good since it still advertises a comparable impact energy (45J) achieved by other 1600W or 1700W breakers. I also found some 2K pro-grade 45J breakers are rated at 1500W. Which leads me to think these higher-wattage breakers just waste more energy, are more likely to trip your house’s RCD and ramp up your electricity bill.
As far as I can tell the supplied bits are standard hex slot type – so getting replacements shouldn’t be a problem.
On arrival, the plastic case did have a couple of cracks in it, but nothing worth worrying about – it’s a pretty tough case really. It’s also not easy to see in the picture but the case has wheels which makes it easy to wheel about!
The breaker is supposed to arrive pre-filled with oil but that seems to have leaked out before it got to me – a common complaint for many breakers here on Amazon, I guess they just don’t tighten the oil cap well enough – so expect to spend another tenner on 15W40 oil.
