The Picopresso is great for traveling. I can now have a pretty decent espresso while camping. While it may not be as good as a shot you would pull from your everyday machine, it’s still tasty!
I really expected this to be sort of okay coffee for the road. It’s absolutely terrific.
Great espresso comes out of it. I make Americanos on the road (hotels, camping) and once you get the hang of all the little pieces and make a routine of it, the thing works perfectly.
The build is solid as a rock. This thing is like a brick. I wouldn’t pack it if I was concerned about weight in my pack (not my kind of camping anymore), but this thing won’t break.
Tip – the grind really matters. Make sure the use a pretty fine grind and you’ll get pretty fine results!
This little device really amazed me, it is fully capable of producing beautiful espresso. Quality of it is decent too. However, you need lots of patience to use it, there are many steps as well as cleaning and drying. I feel it is cool to use occasionally but not for everyday use.
The grind is important to get the crema
I love i
Very happy with this. As many others have written, you need to be able to properly grind your beans. For portable use you may want a handheld grinder. I use a Hario and it works well.
I also own the Nanopresso with the barista kit and have been able to successfully draw some pretty good espresso. After seeing the size and portability of the Picopresso, I had to give it a try. I also have a Flair Signature with the pressure kit. I would say I can make identical espresso with the Picopresso as with the Flair. That is saying something. If you have a Flair, then you are already familiar with the process of dialing in the shot by hand. This machine is not much different.
You will need a good grinder and you’ll have to spend some time (and beans) dialing it in. I found that I can make really good espresso using the 1Zpresso JX Pro grinder at 1.4.2 (One revolution, go to the 4 plus 2 clicks) and perfect espresso at 1.2.2. (The espresso range on the JX Pro is 12-17 clicks, so I’m on the low end.) The 12.5 clicks produced the perfect amount of pressure for the perfect draw of espresso; full, robust, and balanced.
My only complaint is the the tamper and leveling ring do not fit into the handy carrying case. I intend to take this backpacking, and it would have been nice to have all of the components fit nicely into that case, like it does with the Nanoprosso Barista case.
WACACO Picopresso comes in a box with a premium presentation. Inside the box:
– main body
– funnel for preparing the basket
– tamp (metal made, good weight on it, nests nicely into the funnel)
– the case for the main body (lightweight and classy looking)
– distribution tool that looks like a massive pin (to prepare the grinds)
– small brush
– user manual with a couple of WACACO stickers.
Easy to use espresso maker. It’s small and easily portable. All the parts of the picopresso can be stored inside the main body water tank, which then can be stored in the case. Easy to store and carry on while traveling. The process of making coffee is a bit tiresome for people who like to drink instant coffee. I want to say, the efforts are paid off when you have the first sip of coffee that you made. Picopresso is a very good machine, a manual coffee maker.
Its easy to clean, easy to store and easily portable, makes good coffee. Recommended!
I have no issues with this at all.
It is so well designed and has a supreme quality feel to it
It is a real upgrade from the Nanopresso that I also have. This new model has far fewer parts, is much more simple and quick to use and looks far more stylish.
The pump is much easier to press than the Nanopresso pump and goes through finely ground coffee very easily
I’m so glad I bought this over the electric machine I had my eye on.
I would definitely recommend this to espresso drinkers
10/10
Great evolution of a fabulous product, you can enjoy your prefered coffee while on the go.
Right now I’m buzzing. I’m at the early stages of figuring the Picopresso out. I’m on my fith espresso and I agree that even the tiniest adjustment can make a big difference. Such a cool lil espresso maker. I have the nanopresso and this new little fellow is in a completely different class.
The Nanopresso is much easier to use but if you are willing to put in the time and buy fresh beans the Picopresso gives better results. The one caveat is when using beans that aren’t freshly roasted (I opened a “new” bag of lavazza beans and it isn’t even comparable to the results from my freshly roasted local beans). I believe the Nanopresso works better if using prepackaged beans.
If you want easy espresso this isn’t the machine for you but I do think once I have it all dialed in it won’t be as much work.
The Nanopresso will likely remain my “travel” espresso maker since it isn’t nearly as picky but we’ll see if that holds true once I get the pico dialed in.
Looking through the reviews the ones who rated it poorly were not the intended consumers for this particular espresso maker. If you want to tinker a lil and become a bit more of an espresso snob…Go for it.
Also, super important…don’t put your wet machine away. A week in the cupboard with a lil water in there and you will start to get some serious funk
Worth the money. High quality. I love everything about it. Make sure you watch the review videos on Youtube. They will show you how to use it to perfection. finding the perfect Grind will make your experience successful.
Falta um filtro para um caf simples. Que comporte cerca de 8gr de caf.
I guess I wasnt expecting much versus my 2000 machine however….
Same coffee tastes of much. much more than from my built in grinder. I bought a commodore to go with this. (well worth it). Im not saying I prefer the taste from this but it does have far more flavours. Crema brilliant too. I think I need to do more experimenting.
Well built. Easy to clean. Takes quite a few steps to make a great espresso but most of the fun is in the journey and if you get the grind right with the right beans there’s a great reward at the end of the journey. Get the nanofoam right and the taste and texture will have you licking the cup.
This is the first mobile espresso maker that produces a really good espresso. Only it is important that you have a good grinder and that your puck-prep technique is in order 🙂
Also very practical and easy to use. The espresso tastes good!
The Wacaco Picopresso delivers, and what you get is a portable little unit that is truly capable of producing a delicious espresso with thick crema. I love this little device, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t just another overly hyped up product. Please note that a quality grinder with adjustments fine enough for espresso is key; and no, your Baratza Encore will not be good enough.
For true portability, I paired the Picopresso with the 1Zpresso K-Max hand grinder, and the results have been outstanding! I have made really good espresso using a variety of coffee from light roast to dark roast, but I do recommend starting off with something simple and easy, like Peet’s Espresso Forte, before experimenting with more difficult roasts. This coffee is easily accessible, and I’ve had great results with a grind setting of 34 clicks from zero using the K-Max grinder. I am so happy with this little device but I did encounter some quality control issues.
The first one I ordered was leaking water out of the pump and it would also occasionally spray a thin stream of water out of the side. Amazon quickly replaced it but the second one also leaked a little water from the pump, and I also noticed that the pressure wasn’t always even while priming. After a careful and detailed inspection, I noticed what appeared to be a small crack inside of the top water chamber that could potentially allow water into the pump. This could also explain the slight loss of pressure. Normally I would not give a product another chance after two misses, but even with the stated problems, I was impressed with the Picopresso so I ordered another replacement and the third one works great with no issues. If your unit is working properly, you should notice a stream of water resembling a squirt gun after every pump when priming the unit with hot water.
Even though I experienced some quality control issues, I still gave the Picopresso five stars because I am so happy with it’s overall quality and performance. I love showing it off and I have already recommended it to numerous friends. This is the real deal, and if you get one that works as intended, you will have the most awesome little espresso maker ever made. It is truly impressive!
This was bought as a Christmas present for one of our sons and he absolutely loves it – the design and its compactness, the quality and attention to detail, and most of all the coffee that it makes!
It’s great having tried to use this. It’s very difficult for me at least, as I’ve been having trouble with my grinder. So my extraction isn’t what it could be.
HOWEVER! This is a good way to get into espresso or just for the convenience of having the portability of carrying this everywhere/anywhere
Size is perfect for my travel, coffee from the machine is much better than hotel drip coffee or coffee pod. It takes some time to grind bean and clean machine. I pair it with Porlex Mini grinder which is also good size for travel.
I have both this and a Flair. I love both, but this is much more convenient to transport since all of its accessories fit so nicely in the espresso maker itself. It’s also much easier to preheat, though I could see it having a hard time reaching the temperatures needed for very light roasts. It’s a sturdily built and cleverly designed thing. I was originally worried about the difficulty of pressing the pump, but even with small hands, it’s not a problem at all. It fits 18 grams of coffee and I easily get an output of 40 grams of espresso. The coffee has been delicious thus far as well.
I don’t much care for drip coffee, so having a way to bring espresso with me wherever I go has made owning this little but mighty thing a dream come true. The build quality and ease of use is fantastic. I can’t recommend it more if you love espresso and are looking for a way to take that with you anywhere.
This device surely represents a new level in portable espresso creation. What a massive innovation over the previous model, the Nanopresso, which was already a very nifty little device. But this is something else. The Pico will create true espresso with luscious crema and a thick, viscous body. It will pull out all the those nuanced flavors from your blend. Judging just on the quality of the espresso, this device rivals and my $2500 prosumer machine. Of course, the prosumer machine is superior for many other reasons, but quality and taste of the shot alone? They are nearly equals.
Here’s how the Pico is different from the Nano and why it is capable of creating such good espresso:
1. A true espresso portafilter screen and basket, made from stainless steel and precisely machined.
3. beautiful, gripable metal portafilter. No more struggling to unscrew parts.
2. A robust, larger pump with smoother action and response, capable of generating more pressure and pushing out a larger flow of water.
3. Rubber seals and durable threads throughout. You’ll never worry about water leaking or threads wearing down on the Pico.
4. The water tank is now integrated into the pump housing. This saved a lot of space and also further eliminates the possibility of hot water leaking out of the machine and burning you. The volume of the water tank is perfectly measured for a double shot of espresso.
I’m not going to bother addressing any of the “problems” identified by negative reviews. If you are intrigued by the possibility of creating sublime espresso from a device that fits in the palm of your hand, and you understand and appreciate the artistry of pulling a great shot, this machine is for your you. If you just want some caffeine, don’t bother.
Tolles Produkt.
The best portable espresso maker on the market. Well built and easy to use once you get used to it. Budget also for a decent coffee grinder as the grinds need “dialling in” to get good crema. This has a standard espresso basket and not a pressurised basket like the nano and mini so the pressure/resistance comes from the grind size. I use this device at home as well as when I’m travelling the results are that good. I use the espresso to make cappuccino.
This machine is awesome! Totally blown away. I mentioned in the catch line that it isn’t stand alone. Why?
Well-Opinion commentary here:
To do this correctly you will need a scale, a great mill, and (obviously) a kettle. Whole beans-dark roast.
So, that cuts down on portability for me. Although, of itself, the machine is small and portable.
What else? So
There are MANY parts. All well machined and finished. Perfectly so, in fact. But, all the same, there are many parts that all interrelate. If my littles were to find this, I can see it losing some vital parts quickly, such as the distribution tool, the funnel ring, or any of the protective rubber caps. Even the tamper. All of the parts interrelate, as I mentioned. You could use non proprietary tools to get the job done, but the supplied ones were designed to fit.
Why did I buy this?
I bought this to keep at home in the kitchen for me time/self-care time/art of making a good shot totally manually (along with all my other ways to make coffee in small batches). I bought this as a person who has reduced caffeine intake to the bare minimum of enjoying the making of/brewing of/taste over quantity experiences.
I won’t be making me and the missus each a shot to have at the same time. I won’t be using it more than two times in one setting. It’s just to make for me because anything else would be impractical from a time perspective.
Why? It takes a while to get it working. Prep. Timing. Pre-warming. Clean up.
I bought this for the ritual of making a double shot with great crema. A task that it performs perfectly.
The machine does it beautifully. I can’t believe the thought that went into this design and the care with which it is produced. First rate.
If you are thinking you are trotting off on the PCT with this and will have great espresso every morningdoable. Maybe. Brave. Cleanup will beno. Wait. You could do it. It’s durable. Cleanable. Mostly completely breaks down (except for pump internals). Would just need to have some extra components. But would you? I think Illy would workthe grounds are fine enough. Recommend experimenting a bit. You could maybe get away without the grinder and scale.
But for me. 7 minutes of prep (going slow-weighing/grinding). 3-4 minutes of action during brewing (pour, prime, empty, fill, pre-extract, extract), and 10 minutes of cleanup for a total of 20 minutes-TOTALLY WORTH IT! Just not on the road or trail (surely, this says more about me than the picopresso).
Love this machine. Yes, it performs and feels just like what I expected for the cost. The manufacturer didn’t cut corners. Use premium, well roasted whole beans. Grind them ultra fine (don’t go as far as Turkish coffee fine, though). Weigh it out. Use filtered water. Pump at the right interval and YOU WIN.

Soweit so gut. Zuerst einmal bentigt man natrlich kochend heies Wasser.
Great little product and perfect for the motorhome/camping trips. Very easy to use, makes a small shot that easy to drink quickly, and doesn’t take more than five minutes to make once you get the hang of it!
Overall this is a really well engineered product. It produces a fantastic tasting espresso, easy to clean and came with a case. I highly recommend this product.
Massive improvement over the nanopress . Makes excellent quality coffee. Lid thread a little annoying though.
Pros:
* Produces excellent quality coffee, nearly comparable to actually coffee makers
* Very well designed, with high quality materials
* Easy to clean, which helps with it great portability
This is a very unique item which took a bit of time just to understand how it could be useful as much as how to use it. It causes a lot of restrictions already knowing that you need boiling water readily available when brewing the espresso as well as an ‘ultra-fine grind’. The size makes it ideal for travel but the restrictions pull those pros back.
The product itself looks great, it’s compact and includes a bespoke case to fit if comfortable and securely. The design looks nice and is made of good quality materials. It’s hard to say if it’s worth the price tag, for me I wouldn’t say so but maybe if having boiling water and ultra fine coffee readily available then it’s a nice little piece of kit!
Amazingly, this little device is capable of producing beautiful espresso. However, it is quite a hassle to use. I cannot imagine many people bothering with it very often. You need a grinder capable of producing extra-fine ground coffee (such a grinder will probably cost you more than this Picopresso costs). You will need to weigh the amount of coffee to get it just right (too tight, and the Picopresso is not capable of pumping water through it; too loose, and you get a nasty thin espresso). You have to pre-heat the Picopresso with boiling water, which is hard to do without getting hot water on your hands. Then when you pump the espresso, the Picopresso gets uncomfortably hot to hold. Finally, you have to wash and dry everything. Honestly, how many people are routinely going to do all this? Maybe the Picopresso is more of a novelty item. But if you are prepared to put in the effort, the Picopresso really works. So overall, my recommendation is that if you are a determined sort of coffee buff, you will love the Picopresso – it produces fantastic espresso.
Previously experimented with the Aeropress, in addition to its Prismo and Joepresso attachments. The results were OK. Great crema from the Joepresso, but a somewhat acidic taste from the espresso itself.
I decided to invest in the Picopresso, and have been pulling excellent quality shots ever since it arrived! Tons of crema, and pristine extraction of essential oils from the grind, with a very smooth finish on the palate.
Follow the instructions to the T, and you’re good to go. Water straight off the boil, finely ground quality espresso beans, tamping, and chamber preheat are the most important Can play around with water and grind amounts, depending on your preferences.
The outside of the chamber does get hot when it’s time to brew, and I simply wear gloves to resolve. All said and done, a barista worthy shot of espresso that you can take anywhere. Got a car kettle water heater to go with this too!
WACACO’s picopresso portable espresso maker is a great coffee maker for coffee lovers who tend to travel a lot.
This picopresso is only 350 grams in weight and 4.25 inches tall which is compact and lightweight for travelling around. As for making the perfect espresso, the picopresso can produce creamy shots with dense flavours and a strong aroma similar to those heavy, countertop espresso makers. It also has a wide stainless-steel basket that’s 52mm wide, to create a full double espresso shot. As for the tank, Picopresso’s portable tank is crafted from metals and robust materials, with a 2.7 fl. oz capacity.
I honestly find this very helpful especially during out-of-town trips. I don’t have to go to a coffee shop to start my day with a shot of espresso. Picopresso is easy to use and gives that rich and creamy coffee that wakes me up and keeps me going throughout the day.
I appreciate how it comes with a small bag where I can keep it. The Picopresso also comes with a tamper, scoop, brush, distribution tool, funnel, and instructions, which are written in different languages. It even has a card and a Wacaco sticker.
It’s a beautiful piece. I honestly love how this looks and how it gives me a good creamy espresso.
Overall, it’s quite expensive, but for me, is worth it for the convenience and quality.
Lets be clear from the start — this machine is not for everybody. Unless you are used to making espresso with a manual or semi-automatic machine, the process will be unfamiliar, the machine complex, and the instructions will be confusing — all 23 steps of them.
The product page doesn’t really explain what is involved with using the espresso maker. If you’re looking for an easy ‘on the go’ quality coffee machine, this also isn’t the machine for you. It requires ‘super fine’ freshly ground coffee (read: you need to own a half decent grinder as supermarket ground coffee is normally too coarse) , a supply hot water, and facilities for cleaning it. So with that said, its not particularly practical on the go. So what is it and who is it for?
It’s a machine for coffee enthusiasts. If you own a home espresso machine (not a pod machine) and enjoy the constant hunt for the perfect espresso, you might love this. Especially if you take short trips, cant bare to be without good espresso, and don’t mind a bit of prep keep reading.
– How it works
Just like your espresso machine! The instructions are overly complex (see photos) but its basically the same as your usual process with a few tweaks.
(1) Grind coffee super fine
(2) Add the ground coffee,
(3) tamp the coffee,
(4) add the shower screen and screw it all together
(5) add the water to the top and get pumping.
They say you should preheat the water chamber and there is a process to the water pumping to generate pre-infusion before extraction, but that’s essentially it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It does not heat the water for you. You need to have boiling water to hand from a kettle or something.
– How is the espresso?
Just like your coffee machine, it depends on a bunch of variables but overall, the machine is capable of high quality, syrupy espresso extraction that will leave you pleasantly surprised. It will even rival some home espresso machines several times its price. Its capable of great things. One down side worth noting however is that even if you do preheat the machine before the first espresso pull, the espresso still loses a notable amount of temperature and isn’t quite as hot as it should be. Its not a deal breaker though, more of a compromise.
– Build quality:
Brilliant. The packaging is elaborate and grand. The machine engineering is nothing short of genius — the way they fit together so many components to be able to be packed for travel for before use, then fit together with such high precision is impressive. The investment in research and development is there to be seen. The machine itself is solid and it all comes in a great quality travel case. The only downside is that the insulation could be better – with hot water in it, it can be quite hot to hold whilst pumping.
– Is it worth it?
On the face of it 129 (at the time of writing) is a lot of money for a machine that markets itself as portable but requires so much prep that its not really practical for most people who will prefer to just find a coffee shop. But there is a minority who cant bear to be without their high end coffee and this is for them.
– Conclusion / final thoughts
It is difficult to pump (it requires some effort) and the espresso is not as hot as I would like but overall I really love it. It produces quality espresso like no other travel product. For me personally this will be great for an upcoming weekend away where I know I will be stuck in a hotel with a kettle in my room but no decent coffee. I have even used it at home when my espresso machine was playing up, and truth be told, I possibly even preferred it over tha
The picopresso is an extremely well built, durable device that true aficionados will appreciate. You can definitely extract a perfect double shot every time, once you get the grind and coffee amount dialed in. I agree that it’s a bit messy and it’s a little involved so it’s not for amateurs and folks who don’t understand the fine nuances of extracting the perfect shot. I own both the nanopresso and the picopresso. The nanopresso does a fair job creating espresso and is much lighter (weight wise) than the picopresso. I have taken the nanopresso backpacking, but the picopresso is to heavy for backpacking. I take the picopresso on business trips and really enjoy making it in the hotel room on my layover. I have a professional espresso machine at home with built in grinder and I pre grind my coffee the night before a trip using the same setting I use for my machine at home. It’s usually no problem boiling water in the hotel room, but if there’s no means in the room, I’ll run to the restaurant downstairs with my picopresso prepped and use their hot water machine right there. I’ve blown away the staff as they watch the gorgeous crema flow into the cup! If you’re really into excellent espresso on the go, you will be blown away. Love it! Love it!
Also braucht man einen Wasserkocher o. .

This is a portable professional tool. Don’t buy it if you just want an espresso machine, get a Breville Bambino instead. Don’t buy it if you just want good coffee, order Cometeer. Buy this one if you like to tinker and spend half a bag of coffee to dial in a perfect shot.
The package is great:
– only slightly tapered basked, it can take 16-19 grams of coffee
– naked portafilter to watch extraction
– a little funnel and a compact tamper that can be leveled on said funnel, this is amazing
– even a tiny WDT tool to break up your clumps!
– everything can be disassembled and cleaned easily
What you absolutely need:
1. Accurate scales (I use TIMEMORE Plus)
2. Good grinder (I use Normcore V2)
Difficulty level:
1. Dark roasts: not very difficult, start with those.
2. Medium roasts: hard, you need everything to be as hot as possible and pull longer shots, I do 16 grams in, 40-42 grams out.
3. Light roasts: impossible.
Your beans must be fresh, BUT NOT TOO FRESH! At least 1 week after roast, this is important! At most 2 months.
This is my process (medium roast, pretty fine grinds):
1. Preheat the main unit pouring boiling water in it and close the lid. I don’t attach the basket.
2. While it’s preheating, grind coffee (I use lower dose about 16 grams) and put it into the basket.
3. Break clumps with the WDT tool and tamp over the funnel for good leveling. Can be tamped one more time without funnel if you want better compression. Don’t forget to put on the puck screen. Portafilter is ready.
4. Boil the kettle one more time.
5. Pump at least a little bit of water from the unit, so hot water retained inside the pump. Then unscrew the lid and replace the water with freshly boiling.
6. Screw the portafilter in, pump 10 times and wait 20-30 seconds.
7. Pump evenly so the flow is constant until the end (40-42 grams in cup).
Don’t forget that the puck screen can also be disassembled for clean up, the rubber comes off.
