wide application

WOOD CUTTING

Always ensure the work-piece is firmly clamped to prevent movement. For easier control use low speed to start cutting,

then increase to correct speed.

METAL CUTTING

This saw has different metal cutting capacities depending upon the type of blade being used and metal being cut.ALWAYS clamp the work down to prevent it from slipping.Use a finer blade for ferrous metals and a coarse blade for non-ferrous metals.

When cutting thin gauge sheet metals, ALWAYS clamp wood on both sides of the sheet. This will give you a clean cut without excess vibration or tearing of the metal.

WARM TIP

We recommend that you spread a thin film of oil or other coolant along the line of cut ahead of the saw. This will allow easier operation and help extend blade life. Use kerosene when cutting aluminum

I’ve got a couple of Wesco tools now and this one I got to review. And, like other Wesco tools it’s pretty good to say the least. Okay, one has to add that the price is a factor and this is not a Festool or Hilti but regardless it’s a very good tool.

The build quality is better than you would imagine and the materials used are very good. The case in particular is high end plastic – probably glass fibre impregnated by the scratch test I did. It feels nice to hand as well with a tactile finish and good weight. If I was to compare I’d say this is pretty much Ryobi territory although priced lower down. In other words a decent mid-range DIY tool or for someone in the trade who uses a reciprocating saw occasionally and does not want to pull out a few hundred quid for a Makita or Milwaukee.

The battery is decent sized and has plenty of power. I really can’t tell how high powered it is but compared to my jolly expensive Ryobi ones with the same stated ampere hours this is a little lighter and that suggests perhaps less dense batteries. Still seems to give a decent working time though.

The blade fits into a spring loaded chuck which is very secure albeit requires a bit of force to turn.

In use it’s smooth, fairly quiet and has a decent mechanical feel to it which suggests it’s made to a decent tolerance. The trigger allows a variable speed cut which is useful for getting started and avoiding the blade jumping around. A reciprocating saw isn’t a precision tool but it’s nice to get close to where you need to cut.

There are some corners cut of course to get to this price point. The battery case is hard plastic of a lesser quality than the actual tool and the charger is a cap type not a base unit. Still works well so no issues there but a base unit would be good at some point.

Overall a very good tool for the money and ideal for general DIY use without breaking the bank. Wesco certainly make some very good stuff.

This is my third recip saw and it is my favourite. It has near enough the same power as my corded recip saw which is impressive. The battery lasts a lot longer than my other cordless recip so I was able to get a lot more done. I use this a lot at my allotment and for taking apart pallets. The blades supplied are really good quality and last well. Excellent value for money, I highly recommend.

We needed to lop off some tree branched and this saw was perfect. It is lightweight enough that my husband couldn’t lift it, nor my elderly father-in-law. They did say it could be a little struggle if you had to go over the head.

The blade was easy to slot in, we have only used the heavy-duty one as it was for tree branches. The vibration was very minimal and didn’t give any long-term issues.

It cut very smooth and with no issues to be had. By far one of the best saws we have ever had or used!

This is very well made, powerful, easy to use device. It charges quite quickly, the blades are surprisingly durable and easy to change and it feels solid and well balanced to use. If I had a criticism it would be that the unit can be a little noisy, but that aside, at this price it’s a great buy.

For jibs around the home, workshed and garden, a reciprocating saw is really useful to have around.

From cutting out materials such as old pipes, wood frames and even tree stumps, this saw really works.
A selection of blades for metal, plastic and wood are provided but if using for pruning, look at some with a coarser pitch as it makes work easier.
The battery is 4Ah and should last for most quick jobs, but a spare is never a bad thing. The battery also fits other Wesco tools.

It’s not a lightweight swa but sometimes that weight is needed. It is reasonable comfortable to hold and use but I recommend a pair of anti-vibration gloves to help. This applies to all reciprocating saw.

It should pay for itself in a few uses.

I’ve several Wesco tools, 8 out of 10 have been good or excellent, this fits the almost excellent box. The saw works very well, blade adjustment is easy (standard fitting), a ferocious cut, much faster than with a hand saw, not as fast or clean as a circular though. They’ve finally put out a tool with a 4Ah battery & it’ll also let you chech how much juice is left in it, unlike their usual 2Ah battery. The charger still let’s the side down, its a DC wire & clip on charger, not a mains cable with a proper dock. Not enough to merit knocking off a star (4.5 rounded up to 5). The supplied blades are mediocre but functional & a case would be nice. But a good tool, so I’m giving 5 stars, rather than 4.

This Wesco reciprocating saw is reliable and easy to use at home.

The saw is equipped with an 800w powerful, pure copper motor for efficient cutting. It has a cooling system which helps reduce heat during long time usage and an on/off safety switch. The on/off switch is also a variable speed-controlled trigger switch. The blade plunger stroke rate can be adjusted from the minimum to maximum by the pressure you apply to the on/off switch.

It has a stroke of 20mm, the cutting capacity for wood is 115mm, for steel is 10mm and for plastic is 15mm. The base plate can be adjusted to different lengths. Lastly, it has a switch-on lock out button, just simply press the power button, then press the release button, and release the power button. Your switch is now locked, and you can continue to use it. To close the tool, simply press and release the on / off button.

I must say that it is heavy duty and a great alternative to top branded saws that are much more expensive. I used it to cutdown branches around my garden. I will be using this for any DIY work around the house.

Overall, it is easy to operate, good value for money and could be used not only for cutting wood but also metals and plastics. Highly recommend.

I’m a fan of Wesco stuff and they do pretty much everything now and seem to range from budget to premium but everything has good build quality. This is one of those that feels very good quality and the plastics and rubberised body is superb to hold and to use.
I use these things a lot, we have a lot of trees, and this one is up there with my best worker but not quite reaching it with power.
The battery is like most Wesco stuff and uses the same charging clip so you can interchange batteries and doesn’t take long to charge, there is a useful battery charge tester which shows you the charge left with a press of the button.

The weighting is good in the hand and although quite heavy as these saws all are you can use it with one hand if needed when you’re up a tree, you do feel it in the forearms after a few minutes though.
Comparing to a very similar spec Morgan saw this one is a bit quieter but doesn’t have the same grunt and power as the Morgan which when testing side by side with the same blade took slightly longer to get through the same branch and needed a little more coaxing, still went through easily with a different blade though.

Taking of blades, the ones you get with this are not good at all, in fact I’d say the wood one is rubbish, it got nowhere at all with the branch in the picture and when I swapped it for my Bosch wood blade it munched through it easily. Looks a cheap though so you’ll need to get some new ones. They aren’t expensive though I got a pack of 6 Bosch wood blades from Amazon for about 7 or 8 quid and they are brilliant, took a 25 foot for down and chipped to pieces with one blade with these two saws.

You won’t go wrong with this saw at all and it’s superior build quality.

Good solid build and reliable, wood blades are naff

For the asking price this is a good saw, it’s got a bit of weight to it and is quite loud in comparison to a Makita one we have but this is a fraction of the cost and ready to use straight out of the box unlike the larger brands.

It managed a few smaller DIY/gardening jobs quite well, I wouldn’t say it’s powerful enough or sturdy enough to use in a professional setting though.

This power saw has been a great piece of kit. I have a few wesco products now as they offer cost effective tools that seem to be build to last and this saw is no different. It gives good speed control via the power trigger. It’s relatively light weight and well balanced to operate. The battery seems to provide plenty of power and run time thanks to its 18v supply. Charge time didn’t seem to take too long around 5 hours from flat. The saw comes with 6 new blades for both metal and wood. It was really simple to change the blades via a quick twist lock mechanism. Overall a great piece of ki

My usual reciprocating saw is a big dewalt. That has some serious grunt and handles almost anything I throw at it but it is cumbersome to use because of the size, weight and cable.

This cordless is a nice addition. Yes it is much smaller so I am not going to expect it to do the same jobs, it does feel significantly lower power. But being smaller and more importantly cordless I can get it into places the dewalt won’t go and can use it quickly with much less faffing to setup. Vibration is bit of an issue sometimes but that it because the small nature of this almost invites you to use it in places where you can’t brace the work so that is more of an issue with how it is used rather than the saw itself. The saw looks and feels quite solid but the battery charger looks and feels quite flimsy; yes I know it is just an 18V transforer plugged across the battery so electrically it doesn’y need to be any more sophisticated but tools like this tend to get thrown around and it should be able to withstand a bit of worksite abuse. That’s easy enough to solve – just keep it in the case or at least I would if it came with one. As there was no case the first thing I did was find a suitable tool case for it but it is the big omission – toolls like this should come with a case.

Pros – Lightweight, flexible, cordless reciprocating saw. Very useful for those awkward access jobs
    Cons – no case!

Overall – recommended, but buy a case

I needed a saw that would go through fence posts and several stubborn nails in a place with no mains electricity. The 18v battery version of this saw made light work of the whole job (there’s also a mains version). No problems at all going through thick wooden posts or chunky nails with the correct blades. Blade changing is easy, just twist the end of the tool, and six blades are supplied.

The battery seems to last ages, I certainly completed the tasks I needed to before it was empty. It charges back up quickly and has a battery indicator on the front, so you know how much power you have left.

I’ll be using this for some of the thicker tree branches I’ll need to trim. I’ve been cutting them with a hand saw and not being able to complete the job in one day, I expect this tool will just rip through them in no time at all.

Straight out of the box, this saw oozes quality. The sawing unit feels weighty and the battery pack much the same. All together this is not a light piece of kit but it is certainly not a problem to lift and use. The battery pack brings the centre of gravity back towards the user and clips in place easily. NB charge time circa 3 hours on first charge.

There are six blades with the saw, two each of wood, PVC and metal. I’ve only used the wood but they are easy to mount on the saw, a simple twist chuck and it’s ready to go. A fearsome looking thing with the blade in place, the grip is positive and secure with rubber to ensure traction. The same is true of the secondary grip on the body. The safety button is right where you need it and I can confirm that it works!

The power of the saw is surprising and the wood blade went through a 2-inch green branch in about 3 seconds the first time I used it and that wasn’t trying.

I already have a Wesco Drill, and also a Wesco Impact Drill so I was keen to see how this Reciprocating Saw stacked up.

Firstly the good points, this is a nice weighty (all reciprocating saws are fairly heavy, by nature) and this is on par with other makes, my other brand of reciprocating saw is exactly the same weight as this one, so I see no reason to criticise it on that point, and for me personally the weight is ideal, plus I also have arthritis in both my hands, so if it is OK for me it should be OK for just about anyone.

It is well made with a nice comfortable rubber grip and I tried it on both a couple of 2″ thick planks of wood and also on some 2″ thick old branches on 6 of my 45 year old roses, which are impossible to cut by loppers (too thick) and difficult to cut by a hand saw, so they just got left, until I got this that is.
There is a point here though, you need to make sure the the adjustable guide is pushed flat right up to the piece of work you are cutting, and that you don’t try and cut anything ‘freehand’, without using the guide – otherwise it will vibrate and become uncomfortable to use.
I also cut some 1″ metal conduit I had laying about, and it was a lot easier that cutting it with a hacksaw.
There is a safety catch at the top of the handle to stop you accidentally turning it on, that is essential on any battery device as it sane you having to remove the battery when changing the blade etc, so well done for that.
The trigger itself is also the speed controller, so pull harder to go faster, it is easy to get used to this control after 5 minutes of use.

Like all tools you MUST use them correctly, otherwise they could overheat, and even become dangerous, and with that in mind I would always strongly recommend wearing both some decent gloves and goggles, something a lifetime in industry has taught me.

Changing the blade was also so very easy and takes about a 10 seconds, this also come with a decent selection of 6 fairly good quality blades for cutting wood, PVC and metal to get you started

Now for a couple of bad points :
Like a few other reviewers have mentioned there is no bag to store this in, like their other products and in their defence, 99% of other manufacturers don’t supply anything to store a reciprocating saw in either.. but why ?
Even worse if trying to find something suitable (not too big) on the market and for my other saw I had to send to America to get a suitable case, but I think this one will have to live in its cardboard box, but I am sure people would gladly pay 10 more for a bag/case though – well I certainly would !

My only other gripe was trying to get a spare battery – I found it impossible to get another 4.0Ah one and could only find a 2.0Ah one after a lot of searching, they really need to up their game on this one, as who doesn’t buy a second battery for tools such as this, do they think people will stop work and wait for 2 hours for the battery to charge up before resuming work.. try telling that is the only option to a professional user, and their boss… they will send it this straight back.
To be honest it nearly lost a star but the bag issue isn’t unique to Wesco and I have been lead to believe the batteries will become more widely available too, this a MUST if they are aiming this at the professional market.
With ALL my battery powered tools I have al least one, if not two or three spare batteries and I do prefer to buy the genuine manufacturers brand rather than a third party one after a bad experience a few years ago.

Like my other two Wesco tools I am pleased with it, but the market is full of competitors, and although a ‘cheap’ make is never an option for me, they could become a good alternative for leading brands, as the portable 18v market seems to be really taking off now, I certainly won’t entertain mains powered tools as a ‘trailing mains lead’ is just so impractical these days as it just gets in the way.

I really hope my review helps someone.

This Wesco reciprocating saw is a good size, 39mm long and 75mm around the handle.
The speed is controlled by squeezing the trigger, soft for slow and hard for fast, simple really. And at full speed it gives you 3000 strokes per minute. There’s a safety switch just above the trigger which has to be pressed in order to allow the trigger to be pressed. A simple safety feature which works well.
The 4.0Ah Li-Ion battery charges in a couple of hours and gives you plenty of time using it, this depends on many factors. I’ve cut up a 5 foot square plastic shed and a large wooden fence into car boot size pieces to take to the recycling plant and still had plenty of juice left in the battery.
Changing the blade is simple, but do take the battery off first to save your fingers if the trigger is accidentality pressed.
The ‘chuck’ as I’ll call it, where the blades slide in, simply turns so you can push the blade into the gap and, once in place, release the ‘chuck’ and it should lock the blade in place. There’s no tools needed at all.
The footplate can be moved back and forth using the lever on the side, but this does take a little effort to pull it out.
It’s not the lightest on the market, being about 2.4kg with battery and 1.73kg without, which can bring a little aching of the muscles on longer use.
The 6 blades are for cutting different material. 2 blades for wood, (235mm), 2 for metal, (155mm) and 2 for plastic, (150mm)
Each blade is strong and can handle the heat created as they’re used, which is what you need really.
In all, a fantastic cordless saw which won’t let you down, but be careful with it as it shows no mercy for the careless.

A great, powerful saw which needs no wires ....

Another solid entry from Wesco. This is a very powerful and well balanced saw. I cut through a block of 70mm x 70mm wood which had a large knot running through it and this saw made light work of it. I have yet to test it with the metal blades, but I am sure it will be no problem at all. This comes with one of the big batteries so you are guaranteed a decent amount of work time. It charges quickly so no worries.

    Super saw

I’ve built up quite a collection of Wesco tools and none of them have failed to impress.
This reciprocating saw is no exception.

Very simple in operation, insert the (big) battery into the handle, a blade inserts with a simple twist locking mechanism no tools required.

The variable speed trigger makes it go, after first depressing the locking button which works from either side for left or right handed use.

Made short work of cutting through some wood and this was just with whatever charge the battery arrived with. It is not overly loud in use (should be wearing ear defenders anyway), and despite the larger battery is a good weight to hold.

The charger is a simple affair that just slides onto the battery, and has indicator lights to let you know when it’s ready.

Also in the box are the instruction book and a selection of blades to get you going. They are standard fitment so getting replacements should be no bother.

The only down side it the lack of a supplied tool bag like some of their other cordless tool come with. Would be a nice touch and show consistency across their range.

I have a circular saw, and I have a jigsaw, bit this is the first reciprocating saw that I have owned. This will be used for trimming trees and general wood cutting more than anything, but there will be some metal cutting too.

Until now I have always used a handsaw for most things, but when there is a lot of repetitive cutting or ad hoc cutting of harder wood, a powered saw is a real benefit. This Wesco 18v cordless reciprocating saw is perfect as I can just take it wherever I need it without worrying about trying to find a power socket or remembering an extension cable.

This saw has variable speed control which makes cutting easier, as you can start slow to get the cut going correctly, the variable control takes a little while to get used to as initially I was cutting a little off the mark because I had it too fast. I love the fact that a simple twist on the saw chuck allows easy saw blade fitting or changing. Also it is nice for it to come with six saw blades, two wood, two metal and two plastic; it also comes with a two year warranty.

The battery seems to be powerful, and doesn’t take too long to fully charge, just a couple of hours, best charged the night before so that you are prepared for the morning. In fairness, I won’t be using this every day so I can store it in the garage in the box it came in which is pretty sturdy and has room for everything to keep it all in one place.

I am very happy with this reciprocating saw, I am not sure as to the value, it seems a little expensive compared to others, but it is in the ball park, and you would need to check all the features and inclusions of the cheaper ones to compare properly.

I received this item through the Amazon Vine programme.
A well manufactured reciprocating saw from WESCO, I have several of their tools and consistently find them to be well made and reliable.
This one comes with a 4amp/hr battery, which is interchangeable with their other tool batteries and uses the same style of charger.
It has a twin-switch safety and a variable speed trigger.
It has good power for a rechargeable, though isn’t as powerful as my corded saw: that’s not unexpected.
Lightweight and manoeuvrable, it has standard blade-changing arrangements, standard blades (six of which are supplied) and an extending guard, handy when using longer blades.
Good as it is, the asking price of 99.99 is a bit steep in my opinion: I have recently reviewed a similar item which, while not as well finished, works well and is THIRTY POUNDS cheaper…..it’s a competitive market out there.

I have a couple of these reciprocating saws, a smaller easy to handle one for every day use and this mighty beast. My smaller and cheaper one works well and I have no problems with it at all. This one however, is a completely different matter.

This saw is both heavy and powerful. Although a three quarter inch stroke may not seem much, but at up to 3,000 stroke a minute, this saw cut easily and quickly. The 6 blades that come with it are as solidly made as the saw itself. Each blade is sharp and heavy duty, thus making cutting a doddle. The fact that the blades can easily be changed without the need of any tool (special or otherwise) is, for me, a huge bonus.

The supplied battery is an 18v 4amp Li-ion one and is more than adequate for just about any job you throw at it. It only comes with one battery and as far as I am concerned that is OK. The charger is simple and easy to use and the battery takes a couple of hours to charge from flat(ish).

This is a professional tool at a price that belies its ability. I now have several WESCO power tools and every single one of them is a five star product, this is the same. Highly recommended.

I already use a Wesco 18v cordless circular saw, one of their cordless drills and their green line laser level so I know the brand is pretty good and I’ve had no problems with anything. My son and I are renovating a property at present and he has just about every DeWalt power tool ever invented. I can honestly say the Wesco brand is just as good with a few minor differences.

This is a really good tool. The 18 volt battery is powerful enough for most jobs — we have a lot of wood to cut — and the battery is interchangeable with other Wesco 18v tools. The instructions are comprehensive, the box and packaging it arrived in was excellent and the tool is certainly of a high standard. The tool came with some great blades for wood, PVC and metal, the battery charger and a quick blade changing system. I’d have liked a decent bag to keep it in but canvas toolbags are easy enough to get hold of. I hate to repeat myself but the fact that it’s a battery system is excellent and with the other Wesco tools we have it means we always have a battery to hand.

The Wesco brand is part of the Positec Tool Corporation, a manufacturing company that specializes in the production of power tools and lawn and garden equipment. The company’s corporate headquarters are located in Suzhou, China and the head of its North American division is located in Charlotte, North Carolina (see photo).

The price on Amazon was 99.99 which is a little high for some of its competitors. Even Bosch do one at just over 60 but I guess you have to look at all the features and weigh one up against the other.

Wesco battery powered 18 volts reciprocating saw .Comes with 6 easy to change blades just a twist of the blade clamp lever to release the blade and just push the new blade in , max cutting capacity 10 cm for wood and 10 mm for metal . The on off switch allows for either operation or variable speed 0- 3000 strokes per minute combined with a 3/4 inch stroke length for faster cutting with a 4.0AH Li-lon battery and a 2 hour charge time , That’s most of the gen . What I thought was it arrived quickly well packed on opening you can tell its a quality product really well made with everything included such as charger battery and blades as its battery powered no worries about cutting or tangling the wires . As I had some tree branches to cut up I gave it a full charge put the correct blade in and oiled the cutting edge and away I went , in no time at all a pile of cut up branches no problem at all ,and I’m sure it will be the same with anything else that needs cutting no aching muscles or sweating required. A first class product well worth buying

…or anything to store the thing in other than the cardboard which the saw is delivered in. Other tools in their range have a bag so I can’t see why this saw doesn’t include one – especially, as per usual, by my judgement Wesco saw is slightly overpriced in relation to the competitors.

The colour of the body of the saw is the company’s usual colour – blue and black; the black in this case forming a very comfortable hand grip around the body of the saw. There aren’t any rough edges to dig into fingers or skin.

The instruction manual is clear both in print and in its use of the correct grammar. I mention that because it is not unusual to find myself in despair when reading some so called use rmanuals.

Vibration / noise level is very much dependent upon the correct use of the saw. An example being cutting shrubs or trees. This Wesco saw vibrates very badly if trying to cut something that would be better tackled by a small hedge cutter rather than a reciprocating saw: using it on thin branches causes it to shake the branch to and fro without doing much cutting. Cutting into a larger section – such as something of say half and inch or higher – relatively fixed too – shows that the noise and vibration level are nothing to cause concern. Safety goggles and gloves should be worn because it is surprising how much debris from the wood finds itself airborne.

The footplate can be adjusted for both angle and distance away from the face of the saw mouth.

I understand from Wesco advert that generic blades fit this saw. Insertion of a blade into the tool is simplicity itself and takes but seconds; as does removal of same. 6 blades in total are supplied – as is the 4.ah 18volt battery and charger.

I have a number of Wesco power tools and each one has impressed. They are not the cheapest but offer premium quality for a competitive price and this saw follows the same path. This Reciprocating Saw is supplied in a branded box along with a high capacity 4Ah battery and charger, six saw blades, and instructions along with a 2 year warrantee.

This is a medium sized cordless 18volt saw about 400mm long and around 2.3kg with the battery. It takes standard reciprocating saw blades and is supplied with two for cutting wood, two for PVC and two for metal with each blade labelled with its’ use. The blades are simple to install by turning the collar at the end of the saw, and pushing the blade into place. It is compatible with blades for other brands such as DeWalt, Bosch and Makita.

The battery has to be removed to fit in the charger. It charges quickly with the red light on the charger turning green when it’s charged. It has a sturdy handle and acceleration trigger at the top which cannot be operated without a safety switch first which is an important feature. The safety switch can be operated both left and right handed which is sometimes missed.

Speed is controlled by the trigger only and it has a maximum speed of 3000 strokes per minute which should be enough. The stroke length is 20CM and the blade guard can be extended via a lever on the side for cutting with different parts of the blade or to get into tight places.

Although cordless it feels very powerful and cuts cleanly and quickly. It is not too noisy but needs to be set up carefully before being used as you control the cut, the acceleration trigger helps with this but it is quite sensitive until you get used to it. It is a handy tool and compliments a jigsaw and a circular saw offering greater flexibility although sacrificing some of the precision. It also almost replaces my handsaw and is useful in the garden for lopping branches.

This is a convenient and handy tool to use and is very versatile. This model is competitively priced and uses a large battery that lasts a long time. The ability to use standard blades from other brands enhances its usefulness and it offers the flexibility of cordless working without obviously sacrificing power.

Great saw, easy to use and in my opinion well worth the money. I have cut wood, metal and plastic with no issue at all.

Purchased to cut down large branches from back garden tree. When compared to the cost of a tree surgeon, buying this saw was the best option for me.

    mutiple batteries.
    multiple blades
    decent build quality for price.

Easily allowed me to work up the tree without a power cable to snag on the branches, cuttng 6-8″ branches at all angles. The two batteries lasted the session without the saw getting bogged down on the larger log sections.

Long and short blades, both metal and wood, allowed for quick rip cuts and smaller careful cuts to allow the branches to fall the right way.

In the end this sawzall did exactly what i wanted it to do. I managed to remove 4 meter branches without killing myself in the process.
