Xenoblade Chronicles is a robust experience that offers a ton of play time that I highly recommend
Out of all Xeno titles, 2 is quite unique, whether is the setting, the young protagonist or the blade/driver battle system, it reminds me of 80 and 90’s anime, which is a rare sight these days.
Compare to the more serious entries like 1 and 3, 2 is pretty laid back, and that is not a bad thing, as there are plenty of comedies to enjoy, some will really catch you off guard if you are used to the seriousness of other titles.
The combat system is a more refined version from the first entry, you don’t get use as many arts at the same time, but in exchange you can use special ‘finisher’ arts that can be chained up for massive damage(and some awesome animations too).
The Japanese voice acting is top-tiered anime level performance, thankfully you can download the Japanese voice pack, as I have heard snips of English VO from trailers and it just turned me off, for JRPGs Japanese voice over justworks, period.
Whether you are a long time Xeno fan or not this title (and all other ones too) can be enjoyed independently from other entries, which is a good move on Monolith’s part, as the Xenosaga series suffered from overly ambitious plans (6 episode in total) and ended up been cut short. Just because this is a stand-alone entry doesn’t mean it will be a short ride, together with the DLC prequel (Torna – The Golden Country) you are look at least 100 hours of play time (not to mention the new game plus mode that added more item/characters to collect).
The Xeno series always have a special place in my heart, they are like what their namesakes implied; totally out-of-this-world experiences that you just can’t find anywhere else, and that is the primary reason for me to buy a Switch(Wii U for X as well), this is a masterpiece that should be in every JRPG fan’s library.
I ordered because it was cheaper than ordering a north american copy (picture show Europe copy) but I was happy to see a north american copy arrive fully factory sealed
Lo he conseguido a un precio muy bueno y el juego es una maravilla, deseando que salga el 3
This is like the best game ever and I am glad I bought it. It may be anime but actually really fun to play with . My favourite Character in the game is Crossette and he is a dlc character and he is super powerful! This is 5 stars in the bag
Envo rpido y buen precio para un juego con el que se est especulando, versin inglesa con software en castellano, del juego en s poco que decir para eso ya hay videos

Played after BOTW. Hard to live up to that game, but a marvelous game nonetheless that will keep you entertained for hours and hours. 9/10
This game is so good and addictive your spouse will leave you due to neglect as your time will be fully invested in the story which will make you cry harder then the day they walked out . Yeah it’s that good .
If you are looking for a good game for the switch this is it don’t hesitate it’s worth i
This game combat system is very dynamic and fun. At the start of the story I didn’t like the complexity, but after learning how to use blade, driver and fusion combos, everything is more fun.
Order came a day early and was in great conditio
I’ve yet to play the original Xenoblade Chronicles and admittedly only got this because Pyra and Mythra got into Smash, but even with that approach I’ve felt nothing but joy playing this game, despite my initial dislike of the main character, I quickly grew on him, as well as every character, they’re all written so well and so likeable, even games I adore like Persona have characters I dislike, but I can’t help but love everybody in the main cast, they all have amazingly written arcs and amazing dialogue. The dialogue itself can be… Weird not on the fault of the voice actors, they’re all quite good but the voice direction is clearly lacking and leaves certain scenes feeling incredibly jarring, there’s one scene in particular where Rex starts a sentence, waits about 5 seconds, then continues, with no visible break in the subtitles, he just stops for some reason and it’s the strangest thing ever, I have no idea why certain takes weren’t scrapped and redone, but apart from that, I have no real complaints
I was concerned when I looked at the product image again & saw that it was a UK box art of the game. I did research however & learned that even if it was the product would still work on a US Switch. When I got the game it was a US cartridge btw.
Amazing game! Not without its flaws but very immersive, I loved it.
This game is amazing. Flawless character design. Amazing voice acting. One of the best battle systems in rpg history. 90 hours to beat many many more in side quest/end game fun. Hands down the best story in video game history.
Really fun JRPG that it’s only bad point is how good the definitive edition of the original game is.
I would recommend this for fans of Xenoblade or fans of JRPG games in general, combat seems a tad more complicated than it was on original game but bare with it and I think you will find one of the best games on the switch.
I love this game so much it’s literally my favourite game and it makes me cry every time I hear other people enjoying i
The story is wonderful, and the characters are either funny, cool, or both. There is nothing special in the figure, but it is suitable for switching. The music is first-class and the battle track has changed a lot. You can take part in all kinds of battles. Finally, the blade collector at the end of the game is worth the effort.
My daughter ordered this product on my account. She says she is very pleased with it. Beyond that I know nothing.
I’m hooked on this game due to quarantine. I love the anime style, I love how even the cut scenes align with the graphics of game play. I love the blade system except from the lottery like system for rare blades, only thing I’d say is, the system is overwhelming if you’re not into hours of game play or complex levelling up (for example pyra cooking) it’s like animal Crossing meets assassin creed meets pokemon. It’s too much. I’d like it more if each character had a specific blade or if you could freely trade blades. I don’t like the lottery system part from the blades; the story, gameplay is brilliant.
Great story. Great music. Great game.
I’m a huge fan of Chrono Trigger, Zelda series, Star Ocean 3, wild arms, FF6-10, Secret of Mana, Monster Hunter, Grandia, Legend of Legaia, Fire emblem, etc. What did all those games have in common? Great sound, story and gameplay.
The game takes some getting used to as the combat system is not what most people will be used to but it gets better and better and more rewarding. There is a lot to take in and maybe a Youtube video without spoilers could be of some assistance.
The music, especially Gormont daytime, is simply breathtaking the battle tunes get your heart racing and the unique monsters when you hear their theme you know it’s time to run for your life.
I love RPG’s that have great atmospheric music and really draw you into the story the music is so important especially in those game that require you to grind.
Lately, I have found games to be great graphics and trash music, story and gameplay this has been a breath of fresh air.
Xenoblade will tug on those heartstrings. The graphics and scenery are amazing which reminded me of some scenery I’ve experienced on my travels. Don’t forget to get Torna as well.
BTW I’m writing this review years after buying this and I still have the same opinio
This game has it all
The best rpg you will ever play
A must play must own game
Please please check this one out it is amazing
Although I didn’t buy it from Amazon I thought I’d leave a review anyway to help others out this is a brilliant game one of my all time favourites the story is so amazing emotional at times and hilirious at other times the scenery is beautiful in some of the places and there’s plenty of hidden areas for you to find which offer stunning views
Pros:
Story is fantastic
Graphics
Character development
Plenty of things to do I.E kill mini bosses/ rares
Combat is fun
Cons:
Game starts off rather slow
Combat to begin with is painfully slow at times but gets much bette
imo jogo, belos grficos, excelente histria . Entrega da prime muito rpida.
I have been playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for over 100 hours and I have enjoyed most of the game, I do find it a little to navigate to the had to reach areas but I think this is done on purpose by the devs. Good story and so much to explore and do, I would recommend this game to any fan of JRPG’s.
Delivery and packaging was as expected amd prompt. The game was good and I would recommend it.
Bonne dure de vie, bonne histoire, bon gameplay, personnages intressants, bonnes musiques.
In all honestly, I’m not a Xenoblade fan. So I brought this game as a complete noob, but after playing it. I am so interested in every aspect of it.
The scenery is breathtaking, and sometimes I spent hours just running about with the soundtrack playing.
Characters are well written, while I have some issues with how some sound (Rex) and look (Pyra’s outfit) even those two I felt very connected by the end of it. The story starts of like your normal adventure and occasional sadness in between, but towards the end (and not saying any spoilers) it gets very dark and deep into characters emotions, and by the end of it, I was left crying (so yeah. Thank you and damn you XC2, you’re the first game that left me crying)
While the game does give you advice regarding the combat, there were still tricks that I didn’t figure out until after I completed the game.
So, all and all. I throughly enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2. And I’d always recommend trying it out to anyone interested in buying it.
One of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. I’m nearly 70 hours in and keep getting sidetracked from the main story. Compelling characters, an involving story, rich environments with masses to do in every area and I still feel I’ve only scratched the surface. Every Switch owner should have this game!
Amazing game. I’ve not been playing it for 95 hours, longest game I’ve every played and well worth the investment.
I bought this Game as a gift for my son, who is an avid Gamer. He reports that the game is enjoyable, with good graphics and plenty of play value. Fans of the Xenoblade Franchise will not be disappointed with this edition of the game.
I loved it, I spent about 70ish hours on the game and I enjoyed alost all of it, there are some small problems with the game like the bond grid but I’m just not a fan of kill 5 of the same enemies to unlock a skill.
The combat is simple but with the timing of skills and the relative difficulty of the game makes it interesting and the story isn’t to bad not amazing but it keeps you interested in the game.
I bought this game 2 years ago. In version 1.2 then, I have found it very dysfunctional and kept it on the shelf for spending time with it in the future. I almost forgot that I bought it. Fast forward to today, now on version 2.0.2. And what a revelation this has been.
In summary, this is the experience that every person sleeping with RPGs like FFVII and FFX by his bedside, should have. It’s the kind of game that will make you laugh, hate the bad guys but understand the reasons for their actions, make your jaw drop when you come across the bigger picture, and cry like a baby when needed.
Do yourself a favour and get it, it’s definitely worth it. It starts slow and silly, but it quickly becomes an unforgettable experience that you will cherish forever.
I would buy a Switch just for that.
Fantastic game and a definite buy if you like long rpg games. Can be a bit hard at the start and will take a little to get use to the controls.
Great game, story is endless, much more fun then any souls game will ever be. One of the best JRPGs to exist.
Bon jeu, avec des combats qui durent un peu longtemps.
Belles bandes son, dommage que les dialogues ne soient pas en Franais.
Jouer en permanence avec des sous-titres ne permet pas une immersion totale dans le jeu
If you want hours of gameplay this game is for you. I love games with a lot of content and this game has a ton of it. Great story, characters and environment. The gameplay is really deep and you will need quite some learning, but once you get the hang of it the game is a wonderful masterpiece. Definitely a must have JRPG for the Nintendo Switch. 5 stars from me.
One of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. The story, characters, environments, music and combat system are all perfect. If you enjoy these types of games then definitely give this one a go!
Extremely nice looking JPG, very good big lovely game. recommended to everyone who likes good RPG.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was a game I didn’t think I’d like. The voice acting seemed really off putting from the trailers, I never played any of the other games in the series, and I wasn’t sure if I’d like the gameplay itself (standing around, hitting enemies with numbers).
After eventually deciding to give it a go, I quickly found out that the game does indeed deserve the scores and ratings it gets. The highs are high and the lows are low.
It’s a JRPG so you would except a very story focused game, and XC2 definitely has that going for it. It begins pretty simply with your young protagonist getting great powers and essentially embarking on a trip to save the world. However, as I played, the more I realized that the plot went into different themes and brought in various elements I wasn’t expecting, which was a major plus. It’s definitely one of the most memorable stories I’ve played through in quite some time.
The combat system is where it shines, despite being infamously complicated. That is simply untrue however, as the real issue lies in how it instructs you in it. Tutorials pop up as they become relevant, giving you a comprehensive description of what each mechanic does, but then those handy tutorials are gone forever. I had to look up on Youtube a guide to the combat (of which there are numerous) to really get an understanding. Once I watched a few, I could really begin to enjoy its depth and simplicity.
Each character during combat does a three hit auto attack. Hitting enemies with the auto attack builds up 3 driver arts that, when filled, allow the character to use a move that has various effects, from doing more damage from behind, or healing the party. Using driver arts, much like auto attacks, builds up a special meter, which can be filled up to 3 stages. Using a special will begin a combo with that character’s element. A chart appears in the corner of the screen showing you what other elements can be used in each combo. For instance:
Fire special level 1 can lead into a fire special lv 2 OR a water special lv2. The fire special lv 2 can then branch into a fire lv3 or a dark lv3, and the water lv 2 can go into electric lv3 or earth lv3 (these vary greatly in game so these elements might not be correct, but the fundamentals are the same).
Hitting the enemy with a lv 3 special deals massive damages, but gives them a buff that reduces the damage to that particular element, encouraging the player to use a variety of different elements. Once you have a bunch of those buffs on the enemy, you can use a chain attack to attack in sequence to try to remove those buffs by attacking with the opposite element (a fire buff will be removed by a water character attacking). Removing these buffs deals tremendous damage.
There is more to the combat with driver combos, accessories, selecting different driver arts, etc, but the above is the meat and potatoes of the combat.
The main place that the game falls down is with the atrocious side quests. While I feel I could have beaten the game without the need to complete many of them (I never really desired for exp or anything that the quests gave), it’s a damn shame that doing little side tasks in this game tend to devolve to “go here for me and collect 10 X”.
One such quest had me go off and collect 10 X and 10 Y, which were fairly easy to find. When I came back, the guy asked me to do another favour for him, that being (you guessed it) finding 15 Y. He THEN wanted me to go to two other regions to specific spots to dig up some of his old gear, and THEN when I brought them back, he made me deliver them to each of his kids scattered around the world. When I returned after all that, the reward was insignificant compared to the amount of work put in. The fetch quest tedium is real.
Overall, I would high recommend this game. The story is brilliant and mindblowing, the characters were either very funny, very cool, or a hybrid of both, the graphics are nothing special but are fitting for the switch, the music is top notch with battle tracks having great variation for the wide variety of different battles you can get into, and finally the post game blade collectathon is rewarding to complete. If you’re on the fence like I was, just go for it. It’s what I did and I’m glad I gave it a chance.
Initially I was quite scared of the battle system as I saw reviews and wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. Boy, was I wrong. My favourite game on switch, is just brilliant. Don’t forget to save, as I run out of battery once without saving and had to do all the chapter again (i thought was autosave).
It’s a good game but not my cup of tea. Preferred chronicles X much more.
I love this game, I find it easier to play than Xenoblade Chronicle X, (Colin) there’s helpful arrows that point in the right direction, when doing the main story and side quests.
Sank about 120hrs into this game and I still havnt beat the final boss plus I have like 20 side quests and dlc quests left. And I’ve not beaten a single optional boss. Tbh idk how they packed this much game play into it. Good stuff.
One of the greatest RPGs ever made. Already sunk 130 hours into it. Completed the story and theres still loads to do plus DLC to look forward to. Cant fault this game. Much better than the first game (you dont need to play that one to enjoy XC2).
Not sure I want to leave a detailed review of the game itself – there are plenty of those out there – but honestly, it’s better to just dive into this without any advance knowledge whatsoever. As long as you like party-based RPGs I can’t imagine that you won’t find something to love about this game.
Playing the previous Xenoblade Chronicles titles isn’t necessary, though if you have then certain aspects of the gameplay will feel comfortably familiar and the names of some of the creatures won’t confuse you *quite* so much.
Bottom line: If you have a Switch then you should have this game. It is an epic, immersive experience.
Xenoblade is such a great series and worth investing your time into. I doubt there will be a better JRPG on the Switch.
Magnifique, le jeu me fait un peu penser Tales of Xilia.
Trs agrable a joue
I have been playing videogames for around 28 years.
To date, after countless RPGs, my favourite was Skies of Arcadia on the dreamcast. Zelda Breath of the wild was a close second, just a bit bland.
Xenoblade chronicles 1 was good but at the time the graphics upset me, a lot of jaggies, and I never liked the wii controls that much.
Xenoblades X was OK, I never finished it, I never liked the wiiU controller much and I played on holiday without a TV, that game was not made for the gamepad (writting was very tiny, barely could read stuff) and some songs were terrible.
Final fantasy 15 was beautiful on the xbox X, but I didn’t like the combat, and the world was not really open, Game was too easy.
On the other hand Xenoblade chronicles 2 is perfect, great graphics, huge open world, good story and characters, great complex/strategic combat, great music, very engaging and plays very well on the switch portable mode which is how I play it exclusively.
If they could remaster the first xenoblade chronicles and fit it to portable mode (writting etc) maybe it could be better than this one.
This game certainly isn’t for everyone, the fighting system is very complicated and noisy but I got into it eventually. There are questionable flesh on show elements throughout the game and the guiding compass that’s supposed to tell you where to go is next to useless. But despite all that, I’ve spent 70 odd hours playing it and still haven’t finished it, and the story, though completely fantastical, is engrossing and actually quite political, though again, the anime cutesiness won’t appeal to everyone. Think before you buy, it isn’t a definite yes
Brilliantly fun game.
Pros:
– Easy to pick up, fairly difficult to min/max combat
– Interesting characters
– Fun
Cons:
– English voice acting is better than most games / anime but still bad
– Hard to explain to the person next to you on the train why the anime girl is wearing a skin tight leotard.
Awesome game. A must for any JRPG fan. Nice world design classic JRPG feel. A smash hit just like the previous games in the series. Think this is a game really every Switch owner should pick up.
An enormous game that is guaranteed to make you forget your family. I’m over 50 hours into this thing on chapter 5, am certain that there’s still loads to see and do.
The story is cheesy, the voice acting is hilariously awkward, and the sexist/perversity of some of the characters makes you wonder how the makers get away with it.
If you have a Switch and you’re over the age of 16 it’s worth a look.
bar a few frame rate stutters (rpg genre really is quite forgiving of frame rate) this ..for me..is better than Zelda botw ( I’m a huge zelda fan and love botw) and better than ffxv (and I platinumed that on ps4 too)
great story..the graphics AFTER the first titan world (gormott) are vast huge and beautiful (especially Uraya) the combat AFTER you get to world 2 is deep , engaging and the orb breaks and huge combos are awesome. lots of party members to find..not just popped by storyline.
best jrpg by mile atm. Zelda is great of course..but nowhere near as technical as this ..more hard-core (Zelda has more mass appeal and a bit basic for me these days)
great game xc2
Fantastic game, engrossing story and characters, lovely graphics and character designs and just fun to wander about in. Very good value for the amount of time you can spend on it too.
I love this game…full of surprises, fantastic storyline, graphics and gameplay are amazing…in fact everything that BOTW isn’t.
Es un gran juego con una historia intetesante, una buena mecanica de juego y la musica es increible. Lo recomiendo al 100%
After nearly 200hours on this game and completing it finally I feel I should write a review –
reasons I love this game:-
It’s massive, you will definitely get your money’s worth if you like the game
the combat is fun, if not a bit long winded in the beginning of the game
story rich
a lot of optional content that doesn’t seem to drag and is easy to leave and pick up later
Can be a slight challenge sometimes but not over punishing you when you mess up
it’s pretty nice to look at graphics wise, and with large text that’s easy to read if you play handheld mode it’s not going to wreck your eyes like some games.
the music is impressive and sometimes makes up for the bad voice acting
I haven’t played any of the previous xenoblade games and it was nice to pick it up and not feel like I was missing a bit chunk of the story like with some other games
reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars:-
At the beginning, it’s very tutorial heavy and to view the information again you have to buy the information from “informants” in the game, rather than them adding a help section to the game. pretty weird way of helping you remember certain mechanics. the information is also pretty vague after the initial explanation. It can take a while for you to fully understand what is going on with the combat.
the AI on your party members is bad, they don’t seem to adapt to what blade you have out (each blade is either a tank/healer/damage). they seem to switch based on elemental weakness and elemental combos rather than if you are dealing damage. they don’t seem to care if you are getting your face smashed in, if the main character dies without any party charges left – the combo ends and you get sent back to a checkpoint. you have to give them blades from 1 role only for them to really be effective. A minor annoyance.
The voice acting, particularly for the English translation is appalling apart from a few characters, annoying and unskippable ( monolith have since patched this and is much less painful now) and in a lot of points I feel doesn’t add much to the game. I would recommend turning off the combat voices through the menu to save some of your sanity, and perhaps switch to Japanese voices.
the mechanic of receiving blades is too random, you can use items to increase your chances of getting a particular element but it seems to make no difference when it comes to the blades that matter (there are rare blades that have a low chance to appear). the fact that the blades are bound to a single driver and overdrive items (let you switch drivers) are very rare is frustrating. hopefully monolith will think to add a vendor for overdrives at some point since this is just annoying, especially as you reach the latter parts of the game with a certain character ( I won’t spoil it for you). you just seem to end up with good blades on characters you don’t want them on, which just ends with them not getting used – which is disappointing.
Tiger Tiger. the fact poppi is only upgradable with this game is a dumb move, and one of the reasons Tora is benched for me as early as possible.
All in all if you like big, sprawling story-rich RPG’s then I would recommend this game to you, it’s not without its faults but I think that the good parts of the game outweigh the bad by a fair bit to make this a worthy purchase. monolith is also fairly keen with updating and fixing bugs and quality of life issues in the game which is nice to see, as well as adding DLC sometime in the future with new game plus around the corner.
Absolutely fantastic game. If you love JRPGs, you want this game. If you love anime, you want this game. Excellent story and voice acting. The graphics are amazing and they push Switch to the limits. I played this game for around 180 hours, enjoying the story, many side quests and endless exploration on gorgeous worlds. Get it!
If you enjoyed the first xenoblade you’ll enjoy this. And even if this is your first one dont let the number two turn you away because the story here is self contained so no knowledge of the previous game is necessary.
The story is well told with a great cast of characters. The voice over work could be better but its not horrendous or anything.
This is a big game and one that will keep you busy for some time. Exploring is half the fun though in these beautifully crafted areas of the game. My jaw dropped once or twice.
Gameplay is very accessible to begin with and learning the intricacies progresses naturally so you’ll never feel like your missing out on a mechanic. Its chaotic looking, but very satisfying.
If your looking for a good jrpg for tge switch then this is good bang for your money.
If you like attractive anime ladies with big fat bappers AND a deep and interesting story that will make you think, along with some genuine laugh out loud moments, then buy this game now.
Best switch game I’ve play so far. I’ve not even completed it and have 80+ hours. I would give it 5/5 but the handheld version doesn’t look the best. Also when loading into a new area the textures sometime take abit to apear. But others then the performance, best game ever!
This is my first game from the franchise, I was worried that I would struggle a little bit with the story or controls. The tutorials are good, running you through an example, I’ve found the story amazing, the little jokes hidden amongst the scripts caused many a chuckle.
If you enjoy a RPG adventure styled game with strategic elements then it’s well worth your time.
A bit long winded at points, at times you can wander around slightly lost, but these minor points aside this is a must for switch owners one of the best on the console.
This is a great jrpg with varied landscapes and characters. I’ve clocked in 170 hours and still playing, it’s easy to get distracted from the main quest line as you have so much you can do.
It does suffer from the occasional frame rate drop in portable mode and can be so what frustrating to listen to the sound bites on the menu screen when you only have a spare five minutes but overall I’m very happy with the game.
Excellent game, it is definitely one of my favourite games! I have about 300 hours in play and love the story, the characters are sympathetic and well thought through.
Great game, had no problems whatsoever with it in terms of bugs or lag. If you are after a JRPG to delve into, I really recommend making the purchase! The story really pulls you in, where you feel you MUST keep playing to continue to see what happens next, even if you got work in the morning (on plus side you can take the switch to work before you start!). The game world is beautiful and big with tons to explore, customisation and depth for combat is all there, it can be made easier if you use conventional tank/heal/dps setup however the difficulty can be altered anyway by how you wish to play with other setups/style. This comes close to being my favourite game along with Zelda #1 and Assassins Creed Origins from last year.
However if you are still 50/50 I would firstly recommend you check out gaming news outlets or even youtube for a more broader/ in depth review before you part with your cash.
Got this for christmas and am completely hooked!
The tutorial and battle features tookk a while to get used to but after i did it was worth it! Havnt even got my other games out yet as so in love with this
I’m not much of an RPG fan outside of pokemon but I can honestly say I loved this game. Kept me hooked all the way to the end. Can’t wait for the new story next year.
This game is simply a must buy for any jrpg fan, it’s probably the best game I’ve ever played, the complaints about it are mind boggling in my opinion.
The characters are very well flashed out, even the blades have full side quests with back stories. The world is immersive and amazing, the story is amazing. The combat is the best I’ve ever played in any Rpg, some people say it’s deep and confusing but that’s what s good about it.
The only complaint i’d have was the map but that’s been fixed. This as close to perfect as gaming gets.
An awful lot of fun, and so far seems to be a worth successor to the excellent original
Happy customer and happy xmas for young switch fan with autism thank-you.
For anyone who’s played the original Xenoblade Chronicles(XC) and Xenoblade Chronices X (XCX), buying this game is a must. For anyone who hasn’t played either XC or XCX, then you owe it to yourself to play all three! (Unless of course, you don’t like JRPGs).
You can buy the normal edition of this for around 40. It’s a fair price for a game that can eat up anywhere between 60-100 hours. (I put in over 100 hours in XC, and over 200 in XCX). This collectors edition is a lot harder to get hold of and retails around 70. For that you get the game plus a bunch of extras: A gorgeous steel-book case, a detailed art-book and CD soundtrack. The box/book measures about 26x34cm. As a fan of the series, it’s worth the extra money.
The game itself (a mere 20 hours into it) is developing fabulously and follows the similar fighting styes of XC and XCX. The menu system is over-whelming at first, but spend some time with and it’ll make sense. (Much of a similar flaw from a lot of JRPGs!) The story is (currently) progressing well and there’s already a tonne of side-quests to undertake. Oh, and of course it’s visually brilliant, featuring an anime style, so it’s not the same XC nor XCX. It’s easy to see that I’ll be putting over 100 hours with this game and more than happy to do so.
Easily a recommended purchase (whether you buy the regular or collectors edition). A must for Switch owners and JRPG fans.
FYI: There’s also a XC2 style Pro Controller available… that’s about 60.
If you like JRPG then you will be very pleased with this game.
WOW!! Just …….. WOW!!
Yes – It’s complicated!
Yes – The “Tutorial” system, believe it or not, is “punishing” in itself (you’ll need a VERY good memory!)
BUT, believe me, you’ll experience moment after moment, scene after scene, event after event, and battle after battle, when your jaw will be, quite literally, on the floor!!
This game is STUNNING – from the very beginning – and it just gets better and better!!
Go PURCHASE IT….. RIGHT NOW!!
You’ll NEVER regret it!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
JRPGS normally consist of beautifully designed worlds, amazing sound tracks, fantastic characters, fantastic animation, brilliant lore. I mean what’s not to like right?
Well I don’t know why, but I just cant get on with them. I put the disk into my console anticipating a true epic, but for some reason it ends up on the shelf where it gathers dust, becoming a figment of my imagination.
Sound familiar?
Well not with this little beauty!! Wow. What a game. I don’t know where to start. Apparently the voice acting reviewed badly, it’s definitely different but certainly isn’t bad! Perhaps a little cheesy at times, but that’s more of a JRPG than thing than a problem with the game. You could certainly do a lot worse.
It took me around 100 hours to complete this game, that’s focusing mainly on the story and doing hardly any of the side quests by the way! It’s a BIG game which I’m sure most of you know is typical of the JRPG genre.
There were many surprises and plot twists in this game which is sentiment to it’s writing. You’ll find yourself laughing, crying and getting angry throughout the entire game… and you definitely know you’re onto a winner when you don’t want it to end. This will be one I revisit in years to come.
Buy it, you wont regret it.
***COMBAT STRATEGY GUIDE***
It introduces you to combat slowly over many hours at the start of the game. It probably took me around 15 hours of gameplay to fully appreciate it all.
To get the most out of the game and do a lot of damage you need to understand “specials”, “combos”, “chain attacks” and “elemental orbs”. I will try and explain it as simply as possible.
(1) Using “SPECIALS” to create “COMBOS” and “ELEMENTAL ORBS”
In the top right hand corner of the screen, after you have carried out a special attack are certain elemental symbols and attack names.
The combo has to be carried out in the correct order if you want to create an elemental orb (more on orbs later). What do I mean by combo?
Well
When you or any other blade uses a special attack, it will create a display in the top right hand corner of the screen. This is the FIRST stage.
The SECOND special used has to be the SECOND element displayed in the top right and a level TWO special by any of the parties blades.
The THIRD special used has to be the THIRD element displayed in the top right and a level THREE special by any of the parties blades.
If you did this correctly, the third blade conducting the level three special will create an invisible “elemental orb” of their element. So if pyra attacked on the third stage it will be a fire orb.
Practice doing this if you can because it’s important in the longer boss fights if you want to do high damage.
Still with me?
(2) CHAIN ATTACKS AND BURSTING ELEMENTAL ORBS
Now in order to see this “invisible elemental orb” you just created you will need to conduct a chain attack by pressing “+” when your party gauge is full (top left of the screen).
As soon as you press “+” and enter the chain attack STOP and TAKE YOUR TIME! You will need to select a character in the bottom right to conduct the first part of the chain.
Look beneath the enemy, if you successfully created an elemental orb you will notice it beneath the enemies health bar.
If possible you will need to select a blade with the same element as this orb to help burst it. You get three attacks per go, one with each driver. If 2/3 of your attacks match the element of the orb you created it will burst and allow you to attack again for more damage.
If you find you aren’t matching the element of the orb very often, there is an item you can give your blades that will help burst the orb even if they are a different element. I have this item on at least one blade from each driver. This will guarantee I can burst orbs and keep attacking for massive damage.
I hope this helps you out in game and made sense. Any questions feel free to ask here and I will reply if I can.
The only other thing, is check out your drivers arts in the menu and take note of what they do “effect”. Some weapons can “BREAK”, “TOPPLE”, “LAUNCH” and “SMASH”. Try and include a variety of these on your different drivers. If you can pull them off in the order I just mentioned whilst building your party gauge it allows you to do big damage. It also looks really cool with great animation on screen.
I hesitated on reviewing this game until I’d spent a good 20 hours on it, and in doing so may miss out on early day helpful vies, however I feel a game of this scope and magnitude deserves the reviewer to show it a certain amount of respect.
Firts off, let me point out that this game is not for the casuals. This is a fully fledged AAA JRPG, and as such you will be dedicating many tens of hours, if not hundreds into this adventure.
Whilst I won’t comment on the story, for want of spoilers, I will say the voice acting is generally very solid, and whilst it may grate on some, others will find it very well delivered.
The game runs at a fairly solid frame rate and so far, dips in performance have been few and far between in docked mode, albeit a little more regular in handheld, which I guess is to be expected.
Visually the game is similar in artistic direction to manga, and especially shines in the cut scenes, some of which are very epic.
My absolute favourite aspect of this game however is the soundtrack. The score, much like previous games in the series is stunning, fully orchestrated and a perfect setting for the ambience of some of the locales.
If you’re a fan of JRPGs, and more specifically the Xenoblade series, this game certainly won’t disappoint. If you’re however just looking for a big adventure on Switch, maybe try Breath of the Wild or Skyrim instead, as, bringing me to my final point, if you’re not a regular to the genre/series, the combat system may leave you scratching your head somewhat. For veterans though, it feels like the truest, most advanced iteration of Xenoblade yet.
An amazing game though the lip syncing in both the english and the japanese is hilariously bad. Doesn’t bother me too much though and is a great RPG to get stuck into this holiday 😀
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a great Game for the Nintendo Switch Console
with some Small Problems here and there. BUT
The game has A Great Vast Open world too Explore with a good to great Story,
it also has lots of interesting characters at range from average too great with a mix of Scottish and English voice actors Dubbing the English release of this game,
the game use’s standard definition Graphics when in hand held mode and upscale it to 520p-720p in docked mode, and back ground music Great overall .
now the problem with XC2 the Combat Menu/UI fells a little bit lazy/simplified with it limited move set for each blade and not being able to swap out/buy other moves for the blade you use the most and plus you are unable to swap between in-party Character’s when in Combat /also in the open world with out navigating the menu System and this game is A Bit of a grind Feast once you get Over level 14 plus,
“personally I think’s Xenoblade 2 is nearly or just as good as the original/1st game in series”.
World Design and Layout 10/10
Music 10/10
Story 10/10
Gameplay 8/10
Controls and menus 8/10
Side missions 7/10
main mission 9/10
Overall so far this is A Great 8 star Game at Just feels rushed and incomplete.
“and when and if Nintendo re-release’s complete version in 2019 Easily a 9 or 10 Star game”.
I LOVED the first Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii released here in 2011 and although I liked Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U in 2015 it just wasn’t quite the same. I am so happy to say this the proper true follow up (hence the 2 denomination!) and it is a worthy sequel as far as I have played so far.
If you are on the fence with this game because of playing Xenoblade X, this is a better game with more traditional RPG storyline unlike X which was more about exploration that story.
If you are unsure because it is called Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and you have never played a xenoblade game before, there is nothing you need to know before hand. Think of it more like Final Fantasy series, where each game is stand alone.
It is clearly Japanese in roots, but it is a worth RPG and worth exploring, the opening sequence is linear, but soon opens up to the gorgeous massive landscapes we know fron the series.
What an amazing first year the Switch is having. Truly the best first year for many years. I am always an early adopter with new consoles I want and normally it’s a struggle for the console to start getting the great stuff, the Switch has so many now and this is the icing on the cake this year.
Final fantasy 9 is my fav game ever & this is about as close as ive got with a game since as bits and pieces of it remind me of it. Already i prefer it to Zelda. No surprise coming from a creator who used to work for square back in the day. Some of the music even reminds me of FF. This game is what i have been waiting for ages for. Absolutely love it. I recomend playing it in Japanese language with english subtitles as english voice acting is rotten.
Beauty of a game. Two hours in and I’m already gripped by the world, story and charming characters. Another great addition to the Switch.
Going to rate it 5 stars as a game but eff amazon itself…
It was supposed to turn up today and not even listed as out for delivery >.> I’ve already had other stuff due to turn up today already turn up.
Guessing they messed up the delivery.
But yeah, from the looks of teaser stuff and other released information. (Refuse to watch gameplay videos to prevent spoilers) It’d be worth rating 5 stars.
Plus next year there’s dlc for a harder mode of the game giving it replay value when it’s released.
I’ll update with review with an actual review after I get to play it.
This game to me deserves 5 stars but I don’t think it is for everyone. This is a traditional Japanese RPG (JRPG) so if you are into these then go ahead and give this a go but if not be very warned, this may not be for you. I was lucky to receive the game 4 days before launch so have clocked in 20+ hours at the time of writing this. This is also the very first game in the Xeno series that I have played and I can confirm that there is no need to have played any of the others as this is a self contained story although if you are fans of the series I have seen that there are nods to the previous games.
Graphics
The graphics in docked mode are fairly good, they are colourful sharp and vibrant, due to the anime style artwork they have gotten away with not having as much detail, but it’s when the fighting starts that the graphics start to show how great the art style is. Due to the various different elemental attacks you can utilise there are bright colourful effects all over the screen. In handheld mode the graphics take quite a bit of a hit but it doesn’t make it unplayable by a long shot, in fact I have spent more hours playing in handheld as this is just more convienient for me.
Sound
This is one of the areas that the game really excels to me; the music is phenomenal. There has been a lot of work go into the musical score for this game and I hear there are a very high number of unique tracks for this game. It really does set the mood for the game and I would say the game is worth it just for the soundtrack. There is a potential negative here for some though with the voice acting; I’m absolutely fine with it and have no issues at all but I can see some being put off by it, aparently there will be a day 1 update option for Japanese language with English subs but I personally won’t be using this as have no issues with the voice acting. So far there has been a fair few accents from all over the UK, I won’t go into details and let people experience this for themselves.
Gameplay
This is were it will be hard to describe, the exploration part of the game is in a huge open world (after a fairly linear start which acts as a tutorial) with huge beasts roaming around, there are small creatures as well. Most of these are fairly placid and will not be aggressive towards you but there are some that will attack on sight! You can engage any of these at any time and some of these fights are really challenging to absolutely impossible until you have levelled up, due to this I believe there will be a lot of replay to this. The fighting itself is kinda like a MMORPG just with single player. On the surface it looks fairly basic does the combat; you approach an enemy and then the auto attack starts, these auto attacks slowly build up your Arts which in turn when used build up a special meter to unleash a really powerful attack thats effectiveness is determined by a button press on a quicktime event. These specials can be chrged up further if you don’t activate them straight away, with the level 4 special being a lot more powerful so worth saving up your specials. Further to this you can also chain specials together with your other members of the party, although for standard enemies it’s unlikely that you will get to unleashing these specials regularly.
Story
The story is fairly straightforward so far and I won’t go too much into it here as thats for the player to discover however I will say that for me it’s engaging and fun with a good level of humour but some serious story as well. Pretty much the standard for a JRPG in that the world is possibly on brink of dying and it is your responsibility to make everything good again. So far I’m feeling the same emotions as I did when playing Final Fantasy 7 or The Secret of Mana, which are my 2 favourite RPG’s of all time.
Overall
For a big fan of the JRPG this was a no brainer buy for me and a definate 5 star game however this is not for the faint hearted. There is a huge amount of customisation that I have not even touched upon so far and wouldn’t know where to start writing about it, it’s things like this that really give a great feel for replayability and uniquness to the characters. I’m sure it will take me over 100 hours to finish this game and there is also a season pass being released for this that is looking to add a lot of content to the game throughout next year. I’m not a very big fan of season passes as a whole but with Zelda and now this I’m fairly confident that Nintendo have put enough content into the main game that it is not required and the amount of extra content will be more that worth it.
I hope that this will help you decide if this is for you or not, I wouldn’t want anyone buying this game thinking it is something it is not though once you have played for several hours and got a goodd handle of the combat system I think most RPG fans could appreciate how many levels of depth are in the combat.
07/10/18 Update
After over 140 hours I have finally completed the main story. What a great experience this was? For me this has been one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. So much content and I haven’t managed to do anywhere near everything. I have started new game plus to try to get more of my blades affinity charts complete. I’ve also put nearly 20 hours into the expansion and can confirm that this is also very worthwhile buy. The graphics have had an upgrade, although only small and the battle system has been overhauled to simplify it somewhat.
Can’t wait for the next Xenoblade game!
Brilliant JRPG. Enjoying every moment of the game at the moment.
