Incredible tablet for digital artists! One of the best things I’ve ever owned and I cherish it! I use Affinity Designer with it, and it’s great! My partner also has one!
I bought this XP-Pen Artist 16″ Pro to create illustrations for a book that I have written. The pen worked ok on the first day, a bit temperamental and tricky to get used to. However, the second day, it just wouldn’t respond. I read somewhere that it might work if I put the pen lead into a different usb port but I am limited on my MacBookAir as there are only 2 usb ports and both are used by the tablet and pen. I will try again today but if I can’t get it to work, I will have to contact the company and send it back 🙁
EDIT: I have since tried the pen connection in a different USB port and it does work. I also played around with the settings, such as pen pressure and calibration and it works much better now. Still having to press down quite hard on the tablet so will have to alter the pen pressure again.
I have put a screen protector on as was concerned about the hard pressure on the tablet screen. I contacted the company and they have asked me to record my screen as I’m using the pen And post it on YouTube so that they can help me further. Never done that before.
Also, the instruction booklet barely tells you anything and there are no troubleshooting hints. You have to go online to download the manual and search online to see what other people are doing to fix the problems!
Come on XP-Pen company, include a proper manual and a proper instruction guide on how to set up the tablet and pen to save us all hours of scrolling through the internet to find the answers to our problems!
UPDATE: I read other product reviews and played around with the pen pressure and calibration and it worked a dream! Phew. Lovely drawing tablet and I also put on a matte screen protector which makes the drawing experience better. Only negative would be that I often have to re do the pen pressure every time I turn it back on. A little annoying but other than that, I love it!
This is my first art/drawing pad I’ve ever had, so I have no way of comparing this to other, similar products. But as for a beginner, it seems pretty straightforward and easy to set up. I’ve got a couple gripes, such as setting up the express keys, but that may just be chalked up to my inexperience. The screen has a scratch, right in the middle, and I’m unsure if it was there when I unboxed it or shortly after. It does get distracting while drawing. I think there’s a way to change the screen protector, but I need to do some more research. But, if you’re looking for a drawing pad to get started on, this is a good one to get you there, especially for the price. But, like I said, I’ve got no way of comparing to other drawing pads.
The XP Pen Artist 15.6 Pro is currently the best screen tablet, for affordable price. It offers a good-quality screen, with low parallax, useful shortcut keys and a limited tilt functionality. It’s seriously competing with other expensive brands.
I absolutely love this tablet… I have been using a wacom intuos for years, and had been looking at the smaller cintiqs. I just couldn’t justify the cost. I saw this on prime day, and was between the 22r and this simply due to surface area, but ultimately gave this one a shot. This is simply fantastic! Parallax is pretty much non existant for those who are skeptical due to some other reviews, and control is well within the relm of my old wacom. Im very happy I gave this a shot. My one and only gripe is the 3/1 cable and wish it was purely usb C, but I ordered a dongle to at least keep the cables on one side of my PC. As someone that was holding out for a cintiq, I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know.
I wanted to give this 5 stars as in many ways it is well designed and constructed, for example it doesn’t require a monitor stand like most 22 inch – it can lay flat on the tablet and is not too heavy or thick. It is not flimsy. It it large enough and flat on the bottom to use without a table. The stand is easy and remove and store yet strong. The device is convenient in these ways. The surface of the tablet is nice and the pen is not uncomfortable, the pen does not require charging which is nice. The drivers for the software seem OK, no worse than HUIONs. The color is quite accurate and I only had to increase contrast by 5% and add some digital contrast in NVIDIA control panel to make it look similar to my monitor. The color temp setting in the software is useless however. Viewing angle could be better. The screen could do with having an extra inch in the vertical height, to have a more square aspect ratio, its almost 2:1 as it is, you are unlikely to draw a super long but narrow drawing like this. I had to do a lot of things in software to compensate for the small vertical drawing area that results from this so I could use the full screen space of the tablet. My 1060 plus has more usable hotkey buttons along the side. The red wheel I only find useful for scrolling, and I gave up on using the multi function, which wasn’t as advanced as I expected.
The reason I find it hard to give 5 stars is, I got this product because I had drawn for 6 monthes or so exclusively on paper and was finding it difficult to transition back to digital ( HUION 1060 plus ). This device doesn’t feel like drawing with a pencil on paper, not even close unfortunately, now whether thats true for all graphics tablets, I can’t say, I’ve used HUION 22 inch display tablet and it felt no more realistic to be honest. Its a combination of artificial seeming pen pressure range, accuracy probably diminishing when pen is tilted, parrallax, and input lag.
I wouldn’t say that the pen is bad, or cheap or anything, but it seems to take less conscious effort to produce the lines how I want on the 1060 plus. I’ve used other Huion tablets and had the same problem. This may be why many artists still prefer to draw on traditional mediums.
i reallly enjoy using this product its got an excellent image quality and its great for drawing.
One of the best purchases I have made in a long time. After checking reviews and waiting for their 15th anniversary sale I finally picked one up. Been using it almost everyday since.
Portable so I can move it between my office PC and LIving room PC and take only a minute to setup each time.
It doesn’t have the same quality feel a a $3000 wacom cintiq but its still really good.
The button have a nice click sound and feel, the dial works great too. The lines are clean when I sculpt in in zbrush and haven’t noticed any issues as of yet.
Overall I am very satisfied so far, actually very happy with my decision to buy.
The response is good, It’s not overly expensive and is a good drawing tablet for its cost and value.
Absolutely amazing, as far as I’m concerned it’s as good if not better than its more expensive competitors. There is almost no separation between the screen and the pen which makes the strokes very accurate, and overall the screen it just very nice to work on. One downside is that the cables are a bit awkward (they take up a lot of space at least on my desk) but honestly it’s such a small thing that I’m giving this 5 stars on all fronts anyway. I’ve finally upgraded from a non-screen tablet and this was the perfect choice.
Erfllt absolut seinen Zweck.
I’ve been a Wacom user since the days of the Amiga but wanted to upgrade to a display tablet. Haved read and watched some reviews for the XP-Pen I decide to take a gamble on it and I’m incredibly pleased I did. The display itself is first rate with excellent colour that calibrated perfectly to match my main display. The feel of the pen on the surface is lovely and smooth without being too slippery and the accuracy is extremely good.
I did notice that occasionally I would get a false 100% pressure mark when holding the pen tilted above but not touching the surface. I wondered if this was a configuration issue and contacted support via their online chat. It was quickly confirmed I had a faulty pen and I was asked to email me order details over. This was on a Friday evening and later that evening I had a reply asking for confirmation of my address for a replacement pen to be delivered, with an estimate of the following Tuesday. It actually arrived Sunday and fixed the minor issue I experienced.
Overall an excellent product and when I needed support it was there in abundance quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.
Came down in one piece, it’s perfect. Works extremely well. So happy with my purchase:)
Good Things:
1 – Size and Resolution. 15.6 at 1080p gives you something like 140 dpi. Its not pixelated or unsharp. Easy on the eyes and comfortable.
2 – Color Gamut and brightness. 250 nits and 100% srgb. Need Color calibration because comes super saturated, but after the calibration its really similar to my Viewsonic VP2770.
3 – Pen Accuracy and features. Its more than enough for any photographer.
Bad Things:
1 – The screen protector scraches. I draw hard and in 6 months of use, its shows. Furtunetly you can buy the protector and replace it.
2 – The Tablet stand its Trash. Just buy the PARBLO Tablet stand, dont even bother with the stand that it comes with.
I wanted to hold off writing this review until I’d used the product for a while. After months of intense daily use, I can finally say that this is 100% worth it!
First, the few cons of this product.
1: There are three or four wires that use up all my USB slots and my single HDMI slot.
If you don’t have a big HDMI slot because you’re using a laptop like I am, you’ll need to buy an adapter for a mini USB. Not too expensive, but it did keep me from using it for another day.
2: I took the protective screen off because of bubbles and texture, and within two days there were little chips on the screen. It doesn’t interfere with any drawing, but there are three of them on my tablet now which is a little annoying to look at when it’s off. (First picture)
2.5: It’s hard to see in the video but the pixels have a somewhat shimmery rainbow effect after removing the protective screen. I can tune it out easily, but it may bother other people.
EDIT (2022) IT TOOK ME TWO YEARS TO REALIZE THERE’S A SECOND SCREEN PROTECTOR ON THIS THING. YOU TAKE OFF THE FIRST ONE AND THERE’S A SECOND ONE UNDERNEATH THAT’S SUPER HARD TO NOTICE AND IT ONLY STARTED COMING OFF IN THE CORNER AFTER TWO YEARS. THE ACTUAL SCREEN IS GLASS
SO YEAH, THE BUBBLES ARE FROM THE SECOND PROTECTIVE SCREEN COVER WHICH LASTS A REALLY LONG TIME (though the rainbow shimmer from this one is still a pain to deal with!)
3: The glove it comes with does nothing to wick sweat, and leaves it smeared all over the tablet. I cut up an old cotton sock and it works much better.
4: Sometimes the pen seems to stop working. When that happens I unplug and replug either of the USB cables and it works again instantly.
5: The tablet is supposed to be able to act as a second moniter, but it doesn’t register as one on my computer so it’s basically like my computer screen is just projected onto the tablet. I can’t tell if it’s an issue with my laptop or the driver, but it works fine for me so I haven’t called support about it. You may want to.
(EDIT 2022) This fixed itself after a while – I think it was a problem with Windows, not the tablet itself.
6: The function keys only register 2 key presses at a time, so a command like “Ctrl+Shift+A” only registers “Ctrl+Shift.” Most commands are only 2 anyways though.
The pros: Everything else!
The colors are beautiful and easily adjustable. The pen is sturdy and lightweight and has a wonderful little case with extra nibs. The cables are all together in 1 bundle so you won’t lose them!
Brightness is adjustable, and the 8 function cables + wheel are easy to use and vital! The driver did not have any negative interaction with my previously installed Wacom Bamboo drivers, and it works with Krita, Paint, and Photoshop as well as online art sites/programs.
The packaging was cute and very secure, with concise instructions and multiple power adapters (but not a USA adapter) if you choose to power the tablet from an outlet rather than your computer (freeing up a USB space). It also shipped surprisingly fast considering the current situation, which was also current several months ago.
Overall, I don’t regret this purchase at all! I love using this tablet every day! Plenty of great features and very smooth lines and super sensitive pressure, which have me looking forward to even tedious drawings!
I’ve been using this tablet for about 7 months now, and I’ll say it’s pretty good, especially since I upgraded from the wacom tablet cth-670 that I’ve had for YEARS. It’s very nice to use and it did not take long to arrive either. The screen is good and I’m not an expert on colors, but they look good to me as well. I often spend hours daily drawing on it and enjoying my time spent using it.
There are a few issues that I do have with it. For one, I would replace the stand with one that has more level options. I was getting really tired of leaning forward over on my desk for so long that it was bothering my back and it didn’t help much when I wanted to get back in the productive mood. Another issue I have now is the pen. I do use the buttons on the pen and on the tablet itself, just because I don’t mind doing so (I’m also left-handed). Whenever I press the front button on the pen, sometimes the back button would also activate, which is the eraser button. It is quite annoying and often does slow my process. The final issue I have, speaking of being left-handed, is that I have to flip the tablet upside-down. I have to do this anyway if I want to use the express keys with my right hand, but whenever I want to stream my work to my friends online, the tablet display being shown to them is upside-down, despite it being rotated 180 degrees on my end. I can’t really mark the score down on this point though, since I didn’t think far enough about this point, nor which is the cause of this problem.
Despite the issues I’ve encountered, I really like this tablet. It’s the second tablet I’ve used that has a screen to draw on, but it’s the first one I’ve owned. I’ve been through a lot of fundamental learning with this tablet and It would have been a struggle if I were to do so with my older tablet.
I’ve fallen in love with this tablet, perfect for taking my hobby to a new level. It feels fit for professionals and hobbyists alike, I really cannot fault it.
Amazing tablet!! Great screen and quality. It’s a blast to draw on. When researching tablets I originally brought a Huion 15.6 Pro, but ended up returning it after technical problems and I ended up liking this one so much more! Spec wise they’re very incredibly similar, but I think that this tablet has quite a few quality of life improvements that make it a better choice, and an amazing tablet.
1. No power outlet required. All that’s required is 2 USBs and an HDMI, which makes it so much more portable if you use a laptop and just generally less of a pain to move around.
2. Red dial, it clicks a little bit as you rotate it which makes it a bit more tactile, which I think is a plus.
3. Button placement, power button is on the side so you won’t accidentally click it. The brightness buttons on the side are a nice touch as well, makes it easier to adjust it.
4. Has some padding on the back so it doesn’t slide around if you have it flat down on something.
5. Pen case is great if you’re on the go a lot, unlikely that it’ll get damaged packed in there.
My only issue with this tablet is that the stand it comes with is a very cheap plastic one with one very low down setting, so it’s basically pointless. Not a big deal since Amazon has inexpensive off brands, but I think the company could of provided a much better one.
Again, it’s a very solid tablet and Ive enjoyed it so far and have yet to run into any technical problems. From my research Huion and XP-Pen are usually neck and neck when it comes to 15.6 Pro Models, and if you’re debating go with XP-Pen! Honestly glad I had to return my Huion since this one is much more enjoyable for drawing.
I’ve had this product for about 4 months now and I have to say I love it. I was biased toward by ipad but quickly got used to using the xp-pen and now prefer it over my ipad and other devices.
The only issues I’ve run into are that the pen’s bottom button activates the top button like 50% of the time. For me, the top button is the eyedropper tool so I have to go back and pick the previous color I was just using, almost every time I press the bottom button.
Also, after a few months of using it, there are a lot of scratches across the surface even though I only ever use the pen that it came with. It would be nice if it came with a screen protector.
But other than that, it’s a solid tablet.
I adore this thing. It’s so user friendly and the screen quality is super duper bright and colorful. I’m not an expert at display tablets but I personally love this more than the Wacom Cintiq I had been using for two months. The pen is super comfortable to use, and it comes with like 9 extra nibs, and I don’t have to charge it!! The stand doesn’t go up very far but I also use the box it came in as well to prop it up. There’s a little parallax when I tilt my pen but other than that, it’s almost exactly like it. I really like how little cords I need for it to be connected, it makes it less hectic. I was shook as HELL at how big this tablet is. It’s much easier drawing on this than the Wacom, and the dial is extremely helpful. That and the keys! I highly recommend!
When I bought this tablet display I was very excited to test it out straight away! However after getting it set up I found that the stylus seemed to be having some trouble…Everytime I would hover it over the surface it would click things before it even touched it…I configured it several times before seeking help online. I soon found out that others had similar issues.
From there I emailed XP-PEN’s support service and I was not disappointed. In three days they figured out my problem and are sending me a replacement stylus as we speak. I am very happy and impressed with their customer service!
For anyone who might have a similar problem with this product, I hope you read it and soon realise that you don’t have to be disappointed with lost functionality and look to their support for help.
I was given a Wacom Intuos Pro from my school as part of a degree program, which was amazing, but I never had a display tablet before and wanted to finally buy one, which is how I found out about this one.
The cable that plugs directly into the tablet… whenever it shifts slightly, the screen flickers to black for a split second and then goes back to normal. I don’t know if it’s a defect or not, but my sister is experiencing the same issue with her Artist Display 12–either it’s an XP Pen thing or we were unfortunate to get defective tablets, but other than this the screen works as it should.
Got this as a gift for someone and he loved it! Great quality and was really easy to setup!
It’s the only affordable I could find with Tilt functionality, 8192 Levels of Pen Pressure and 120% sRGB. The screen looks great and is easy to setup. Works with all apps I tested it with (Krita, Illustrator, etc).
The stand is not adjustable and only has one angle, but it’s comfortable works great. The pen is not to big and I got used to it quickly (I’m not a professional)
What can I say.. great tablet! BUT the cable is faulty.. many reviews and others online mentioning this! So either order a replacement as well as ordering this or get ready to message XP Pens slow and useless helpline
The XP-PEN Artist 15.6 Pro Graphic display was a huge upgrade for me from the $100 Wacom Intuos Drawing Tablet. Being able to draw directly on the screen opened up a lot more possibilities. However, even though this product is relatively cheap among graphic displays, it is still a significant investment so to make it worth it you should know how to use digital drawing programs beforehand.
The screen displays very nice colors, is very responsive, and barely has any parallax. The device size and weight is perfect for drawing on a table or just keeping on your lap.
The 8 short keys and the scrolling wheel ended up unnecessary for me, since I have always been using short keys on my keyboard to draw. In this regard, the non-pro version would have been sufficient.
The pen itself is great, it’s exactly what you expect and comes with 8 extra pen tips, enough to last along time. There are also a few accessories that come along with this purchase, and while they are welcomed the quality is not too great. Mainly speaking, the included stand is fixed at 1 angle and only work well on a hard surface, and the drawing glove is not comfortable on the finger tips. A very minor complaint I have is that there’s no included carrying bag. You have to find your own appropriate bag to carry the device or risk screen scratches.
You most likely will need to connect this device both to your computer and a power source. The included guide and adapters makes this process quite easy, but there are quite a bit of wires everywhere when it is fully set up. I personally don’t mind but some people might.
There will be some troubleshooting to be done when you first use this product, so people who are too young to know about technical stuffs or too old to adapt to it might have a slightly hard time. Remember to uninstall any existing drawing driver that might conflict with XP-Pen’s driver. You will also need to learn how to set up an extended monitor for your computer, and getting used to using 2 monitors might take a while to feel natural. This display also works perfectly as a second monitor, so in addition to drawing you can use it for general multitasking.
Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I can see myself using it for a long time and I am excited about future artworks I make.
The stand isn’t very nice – you get a free stand when you buy it. BUT the unit is awesome. I’d just wish that I could get different pens for it. The packaging is huge, but its all recyclable! It has pens down the side. If you got some government stimulus and were looking, this one or it’s smaller siblings work. I use it for photo restoration. (I use a cheap ikea tablet stand instead of the one that comes with the unit.)
So as the headline says. I have always been a Wacom type and they make some great devices. But… …they are just too pricey. So while looking for an alternative I came across this brand and model. I couldn’t believe the price range for this thing. It offers all the same precision as the Wacom tablets. The screen quality is great, it has a screen protector installed from factory and the company offers replacements for it too. The device is thin, real thin and lightweight.
The pen requires no battery and has two buttons on it and the package includes 8 additional tips for the pen. The company offers a tremendous deal for additional tips. After market support is great and affordable. The package brought the pen in a case that has extra tips and a cap that can be used as a pen stand, the pen case has these rubber padding on both sides so you can stand the cylinder shaped case on either end depending on how you are using it. The package has the main event, Screen drawing tablet. A stand, the necessary cables and power adapters in case you need power from the wall. It brings a screen cleaning cloth and a glove. The screen resolution is 1080p and the cable is a bit interesting. One end is USB-C and plugs right into the drawing tablet. The other end is split into three connectors. 1 HDMI and 2 USB-A. One of the two USB-A is power only and can be plugged into one of the power adapters instead of your computer. This is handy in case you have limited USB ports on your machine. My one complaint. Their marketing art work for this product. Makes it look unprofessional and more for the young hobbyist, when in fact it is far more than that.
Having done an illustration degree, I know the value of having a graphics tablet, and even more so, the value of having one that you can see the image you’re working on, rather than just having a controller. Having had a wacom that became useless as they failed to keep up the drivers, I didn’t want to splash out a huge amount of cash again, so decided to go for something cheaper.
I have no issues with the XP-Pen. I plugged it in, I switched it on and it started working straight away. I’ve been using it for just under six months now and haven’t run into any problems at all. It came with a glove to stop my greasing up the screen, a pen with extra nibs, and a whole host of connections (because of my computer setup I did have to buy an extra connector to fit in the back of my particular PC, but mine was a home build which uses Mini-hd ports for all monitor outputs). It responds well enough for me. If there’s a lag, I really don’t notice it. In hindsight, I might have gone for the next size up for a bigger image but for the price it’s great. There are hotkeys on the tablet for things like zooming in and out, what more could you need?
I’m semi-professional and I get what I need out of it. If you’re a real professional, you might stick with a Wacom or an iPad.
It’s a great product but to make It perfect I would make it so you could have an adjustable stand as the fixed angle can be uncomfortable at times
I love this thing. I’m a professional designer/artist and this tablet has become a crucial part of my workflow since I’ve gotten it. The dial is next level!
J’adore.
My son is an artist and he loves drawing animation so this tablet was ideal for his type of art. He is very pleased with it.
Using this with Fusion 360 -and after a bit of playing around for which button to map and getting used to, it has become one of those items you go … why didn’t I get that before. My son is after one now – so I might get the bigger screen size (21″) …
Had Wacoms before. This is comparable at a fraction of the cost.
Pen is heavy and feels nice in your hand. The drawing is smooth.
And once calibrated to my machine it works like a dream.
I find the stand to be a little lacking, (as it’s not adjustable in height or angle) but it is study and does the job.
I also find I use this one much more like I would an actual drawing pad (put it on my lap or hold it in place). And less like a tablet.
The keys work perfectly on Mac and Windows. And wheel is set up for zoom and is a HUGE time saver!
Be careful when selecting tools using the keys on the pad as it will lock those in until you change it!
Overall a perfect tablet to kickstart any digital art project.
I’m in love! Got it for Christmas and it’s completely changed how I create digital art!
I have been using this tablet for a few months now and while photo editing with a pen rather than a mouse takes a bit of getting used to I can say that this tablet does a fine job of it. I got this probably for around a third of the price of the equivalent Wacom tablet and for my usage it does the job just as well (I have used Wacom before). The tablet is thin and light, the pen is good in the hand. Check out some youtube videos on this tablet, there are a few out there.
Bought for my 15 year old daughter who is taking art exams next year. Initial set up, once I decided to follow the instructions, was fairly straight forward, and she was up and drawing pretty quickly. Linked to the Autodesk sketchbook software perfectly and she is over the moon with it. I got this as a black Friday deal and appreciate it is a fairly pricey but if kit, but if your kids or you are serious about drawing then this will not disappoint and for me has been worth every penny.
This is incredible. Some of the art work my daughter has produced on it is incredible
Had it for a little while now almost 4 months at this point, it’s fantastic very accurate no lag, love the buttons and ability to short cut them including the wheel which allows for so much more functionality once you tinker with it enough. The only downside is that I wish it came with at least one additional screen protector as the one preapplied to the screen gets scratched very easily by the pen nibs once they start to wear out and have sharp endges. But that’s not a huge issue. LOVE the tablet and will definitely recommend to friends.
Bought this so I could get more serious about making digital art and I’ve been incredibly happy with it.
It was a Christmas present for my daughter. She was thrilled with it. It was easy to set up and she is enjoying using i
I am new to drawing and animation, but I have found this easy to set up and use
I have not yet explored all the functionality, but I am finding it very intuitive
1. I spent a lot of time before I decided what I wanted to talk about. I have had it for two months now and I think it is very decent.
2. I draw usually on paper but I wanted a challenge and a place to save my artwork on my computer. I also wanted to challenge myself. I am not a professional or anything but I use the tablet daily and i sometimes sell my artwork.
Pros:
realistic price for what you get
large display (about as large as a keyboard)
software is easy to install but can be tricky. I looked up on youtube how to do it and it was easy. I suggest in the settings that you have the sensitivity very high so you wont hurt the screen.
I was concerned about hurting the screen so I kept the pre-applied screen protector on and it scratched it up quite a bit before I got a decent screen protector for it. I was afraid that i would scratch the screen like it did with the screen protector (picture). I DO NOT think that the pre-applied screen protector is meant to protect from scratches( 2 days of testing). Again I had it on the most sensitive setting and I used it very lightly like using my thin charcoal sticks . Those are REALLY easy to break too. I suggest to get a screen protector though. I ended up getting a paper texture screen protector and it is very suited to do its job but you will need to cut it down an inch or two. It aslo gives you a better feel then just drawing on the glass in my opinion.
What I got to protect my screen:
GAOMON 15.6 Inches Screen Film Protector for GAOMON PD1560 Pen Display
Cons:
I wish it came with a scratch resistant screen protector so I didn’t have to worry about the screen.
Other Comments:
the last thing I noticed was the pen squeaks for a little while when you first start using it. After a week it didn’t squeak anymore.
This does connect to a computer directly so it is basically a monitor that you can draw on.
All in all i was very skeptical due to the reviews but… I LOVE IT!
Fantastic. Im new to digital art i havent had any problems with this and its amazing in my opinion. My first tablet.
Not too sure on this product not easy to setup very confusing for first time buyer and user.
This is my first more “expensive” drawing tablet where I can actually draw on a screen. I am use to one of the more cheaper Wacom tablets where you have to look at the computer monitor to see what you are drawing. Since I am new to a more advance tablet, I wish there was something to better explain how and what all the short cut buttons can be set up to do. Right now I feel like those 8 buttons are of no use because I have not figured out how to set them up or what all they can be set to do. I have tried looking on Youtube for vids to see if anyone explains them and so far have not found any. That would be my biggest complaint.
I was a long time Wacom user, recently selling a 27 QHD and a mobile studio pro, thinking the Wacom 24″ 4K would be the best thing. Sent it straight back due to surprisingly fuzzy display, extremely loud fan and pen glitches. I picked this up on sale but not with particularly high hopes. But what a surprise. For the price, it is incredible. Screen is really nice, Matt but still crisp. Colours are pretty good. Pen is decent – not quite as good as Wacom, sure, particularly for accuracy of rotation/tilt – but still ok.
But it has one killer feature for me. Although the screen is 1920 by 1080 you can duplicate a 4K screen into it (I.e. have a separate 4K monitor and show the same screen on both at 4K on the 4K monitor). It must down sample it, so it is a little fuzzy. But with a large monitor and something like Corel painter it works an absolute treat. I have a huge 49″ second monitor (yes, seriously) and the combination is amazing. You can draw fine details directly looking at the xp display, or look at the large display and draw indirectly getting a massive crisp display. It is the best of both worlds for an absolute fraction of the cost of a huge Wacom tablet.
I have had no driver issues – and the hot keys and rotary input are perfect.
I had the non pro version of this for a year and decided to upgrade to this model. It’s quite good, personally I prefer it to the slightly older model Cintiqs we have in classrooms where i teach part time. With a bit of fine tuning of the settings i’m able to work with a very light hand and get all the same subtle I’m use to working on paper with ink and brush.
Bought for a friend who gets easily tired. Now she can work from bed if she has to.
I’ve used the simple Wacom bamboo style tablets for years so making the jump to this display tablet inspired a whole new world of creativity in me. It’s a world of difference when you get to draw write on the screen.
The shortcut keys are very handy and the wheel is just amazing; combined, they speed up your workflow by leaps and bounds.
The point in the pen that is detected by the display to place the cursor is not in the nib. It’s definitely in the tip of the actual pen. Why this is important is you’ll notice the cursor will go off (parallax effect) when you tilt the pen. So this does cause me to keep the pen in a fairly static angle while drawing to avoid that from occurring. This isn’t that big of a deal as it’s not uncomfortable to do so.
The only gripe I really have is the included stand is way too low and it’s not adjustable. Luckily, I had an adjustable laptop stand kicking around and it works 10 times better.
This really is a great display tablet that’s very affordable compared to the major competition.
I’m still learning how to use this beauty. I’ve only done digital art on my iPad, so upgrading to a pen display drawing tablet that was twice the size was a big step for me.
The pen fits nicely in my hand and I love that there’s quick buttons on it. Since I’m coming from using an iPad I’m used to clicking the “undo” button regularly instead of erasing, but I have my buttons mapped for “pen/eraser” and “B/E” and one of the shortcuts on the tablet is “ctrl+z” which is really helping this transition.
I love that it’s an extra monitor for my computer, so if I’m not drawing on it, I can use it as a 3rd monitor which will come in handy, as I’m a streamer on Twitch.
The stand that comes with doesn’t raise the tablet very high but it’s at a perfect angle for me. I will probably purchase a different stand as this one isn’t very sturdy and with any movement of the table it falls down.
There is a drawing glove that comes with and it fits my hand nicely (I have a very small frame).
The color of the display is AMAZING! I’ve included 2 pictures with displays on – one is my main monitor and the other is the XP-Pen. The XP-Pen has more vibrant colors than my monitor has for just the background!!!
The pen responds very quickly and the curser isn’t offset at all! I use MediBang Paint as that’s what I used on my iPad and all the shortcuts work nicely.
Update: Since upgrading from my iPad to the drawing tablet, I have switched to using Clip Studio Paint, which I enjoy using and can do more things on than MediBang.
I am going to order a different stand as the one included is very weak. There’s times I lightly rest my hand/wrist down and the entire thing drops, which normally scares me as it makes a loud thud and I keep forgetting how weak and unstable the stand is.
I love that the stylus is extremely accurate. I’m unsure of the technical term, but the position of where you’re drawing vs where the stylus is, is practically perfect, as shown in my last photo.
Great value! Money well spent.
We did encounter a minor issue and the company was quick to resolve it.
Great customer service.
Highly recommend this produc
I’m thoroughly impressed with this pen monitor. I’ve been a Wacom snob for a very long time, and, yes, Wacom is still the gold standard, but if you’re like me and you don’t feel like dropping $650+ on a Wacom pen monitor, this Xp-Pen is an excellent alternative. The laminated screen makes this a no-brainer.
I’m not a creative professional, just a hobbyist, but from my perspective, this meets all my needs. I notice no real lag, very little wobble, and virtually no parallax. I’m sure someone who’s used to working on a Cintiq would notice more of the “compromises” here, but since I don’t really have any experience with that high-end hardware, to me this thing is magic.
If you’re a hobbyist and you’re on the fence about this or the $650 Cintiq, I say get this. You’re saving hundreds of dollars and GAINING a laminated display.
If, however, you’re a professional, well, you shouldn’t be listening to anything I say, because you probably have way more experience than me. Haha.
Really, really amazing tablet for the price. Love that it has the programmable buttons, as that makes it really user friendly.
Precision + pressure detection is fantastic, I use Krita and it was basically plug and play for that, I didn’t have to futz with the settings at all.
Screen brightness can be turned all the way up, though I tend to keep mine dimmer for my eyes, and the colours are very vibrant
The 8 extra nibs included with the pen are fantastic, and unless you’re really heavy handed, should last you a good long while.
The screen protector doesn’t compromise the quality of the image at all, and it definitely gives me a bit of piece of mind when it comes to those micro scratches a tablet picks up over time.
The cable situation is a little clunky, you need the hdmi + both usbs plugged in. (Or one usb + the mains), but it’s really not too bad.
The tablet is a little heavy, but so are any good quality tablets really.
The only thing I’m not in love with is the stand, as it only has one setting, and that one doesn’t really work for me.
This tablet is half the price of the wacom cintiq pro I’d been considering for a while, and frankly matches it toe-to-toe in specs, AND it has programmable buttons. The only thing it’s missing is the “rubber” on the end of the wacom pen, but once again, that really doesn’t bother me
PROS: It is sturdy for it’s money value. The screen quality and sensitivity is VERY good. Calibrating the screen is easy and very quick. The quick acces buttons are well placed and feel well built. I recommend this tablet for beginners or part time artists/visual designers who wish to invest in a good quality low price new monitor.
CONS: The screen protective layer can be srcatched if you use the pen’s nib too long on one side( sanding your new nib before using it is a very good tip to avoid such problems). But replacement protective layers can be bought seperatly.
The usb wires are a little short (about 1 meter or 3 feet).
The screen support is not fixed to the monitor and is also really light, so it is easy to drop it when moving the monitor around. (Using doubled face sticking tape or velcro should fix the problem)
Calibrating the screen must be done rather frequently, particularly if you move while using the monitor.
The pen is pretty good though Wacoms is better.
The colours are really nice the tablet itself feels very well constructed.
I use it with Clip Studio and Photoshop and it works perfectly with both.
The only complaint I have is that the stand kinda sucks, it’s not a problem for me though as I use a drafting table.
Overall I wouldn’t pay the extra $200+ for the similar size Wacom Cintiq just for the better pen; and I think the xp-pen is better in every other aspect. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a tablet.
In terms of size, horizontally it’s about 19 inches long which makes it really hard to transport and because of that alone I would find this product hard to recommend if you have to lug it around.
Apart from that, in terms of performance it is absolutely perfect and a pleasure to use. There’s 2 usb cables and a hdmi all in one cable which is handy and the pen has its own nice little case. I really like that you don’t need to charge the pen.
Imbattibile.
While it lacks the quality feel of a Wacom cintiq, it’s inclusion of mappable buttons and wheel on the device (as opposed to buying a separate device like on newer Wacoms) for a price point much cheaper than the comparably sized Cintiq makes up for slightly inferior materials.
Mini review, will update later.
Never used a wacom, doubt i ever will after using this tablet. Its fantasic.
Programs used so far : Clip studio, Photoshop, 3ds max and Zbrush. Very accurate and responsive.
The Red Dial is incredibly useful, my workflow has sped up signigicantly due to efficient time usage of common tools linked to the Dial control.
It’s great.I use the tablet 3-5 times a week and there’s nothing wrong. In addition the price is a good deal for what we get in return. The only thing that would make it better is if the stand was able to give the user more options when it comes to positioning. But I understand it was so that the tablet would be more affordable. In short, the tablet is amazing.Would definitely recommend this for other people who are getting in digital art.
So first and foremost this tablet is a fantastic bit of kit. I’ve just spent the past hour or so testing it out on Krita and Autodesk Sketchbook and it responds beautifully. There is minimal parallax (distance between the pen and the cursor on the screen) and has wonderful pen pressure so I can produce varying line weights and textures when creating artwork.
The quality of the screen is very high and the build itself feels sleek and sturdy. The anti glare coating is awesome as you can work without fear of lights interfering. The red dial is a wonderful addition to the tablet as it allows the most natural and efficient access to zooming in and out and scrolling up and down. The 8 express keys are also extremely useful and allow for a seamless experience when creating.
The build is the perfect size for somebody who has limited space but prefers the medium working space. I personally felt like the 12 inch version would have been a little too small whereas this version is what I would expect a small laptop would be like. I prefer to zoom in and work on my pieces so the extra space from the 15 inch version would of just resulted in taking up more desk space- this version is compact but also big enough to draw effectively on. The build is also fairly lightweight and I can see travelling with it being a piece of cake.
The pen is lightweight and may be off putting for users who are used to battery powered styluses. With a little practice it is easy to get the hang of and is not noticeable when working. I love the stand the pen comes in and the additional nibs thrown in is much appreciated, i imagine especially so for those who bust through nibs quickly.
The tablet also comes with a stand in the box. Albeit a fairly basic stand, it does the job. It only has one height level above completely flat so I will likely be looking for a replacement as i prefer the ability to change the angle i work at. However, this is personal preference and will be different for everyone so it’s not a deal breaker. Setup was easy to understand and the little additions in the box are a nice touch – a cleaning cloth and a glove to prevent smear marks whilst leaning on the screen.
Overall I really love this product and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality medium sized pen display.

Now my only gripe with this product is the delivery service. I really wish XP-Pen gave customers the choice of courier because HOLY HELL it was a nightmare getting this delivered. I have never in my life experienced such poor customer service from DHL Express.
This was supposed to arrive on August 16th. I have only just received it on August 21st due to DHL Express messing me about with delivery times and changing the information about my parcel. The tracking system is abysmal and Amazon and DHL clearly do not update each other on what’s going on until hours/days after the information should have been updated.
DHL does not offer accurate tracking info and do not update you off of their own accord. I ended up making several phone calls to their customer service line which is a premium line meaning you’re charged to chase up a parcel you should have received days prior.
I also think it’s worth mentioning if you decide to purchase this that XP-Pen put long delivery windows on the products to accommodate for potential issues but when contacted about late deliveries they do not do anything. I tried repeatedly and was met with what felt like automated responses. Regardless of what i told them they would just brush me off with ‘Please wait longer’ and I felt that it was disrespectful considering I was the one doing all of the communication for both DHL and XP-Pen/Amazon which a customer should not have to do.
The whole experience was extremely stressful as I did not know whether I was going to even receive my product or not and if that had been the case that would have been a big amount of money to lose. Just be aware that this could happen if you purchase and DHL is assigned as your courier service.

Other than that the tablet is fantastic and budget friendly for artists who cannot afford Wacom. Everything works beautifully and I have no issues with the product itself.
Love this product. Easy set up. Great drivers.
No complaints.
Protector easily scratched, but the quality of the image is great nonetheless. Very appreciated.
Fantastic drawing tablet, only things that I would improve are the pen and the stand, the pen could do with a rubber end like with some wacom tablets so you can easily switch between rubber and pen and have another function on the pen’s buttons. The stand is fine but it would be nice if it supported a larger range of angles like with the Pro 22’s stand.
i wasnt sure whether i wanted this or a wacom, and im so glad i went ahead with this tablet. the quality is amazing for the asking price, the size is perfect -not too big nor too small (which is helpful when you have to travel back and forth between uni and home). instillation was very simple and the guide was instructive. only downside was that the screen colour took a while to calibrate accurately but aside from that a must-have for student artists.
As a Computer Graphics instructor, students and parents are always asking advice regarding what to get. The question that I am asked the most is about a more cost effective alternative to a Wacom Cintiq. I feel that this is a great alternative.
Very pleased with the product, its price, the stylus, and its use.
The 4 star rating is because of the stand that comes with the tablet. It is advertised that it can be set up to either 30 or 90 degrees. Since I do not always need it at 30, 90 is useful. However, when following the instructions, there is no way to secure the tablet at 90, since you are literally turning the stand backwards. Hopefully, the company will make an adjustment. Otherwise, great product.
Just bought my first screen tablet. After gruelling hours of youtube reviews, i stumbled upon XP Pen 15.6 Pro, fits my budget. I was not let down by the quality. The online assistance for installing it was prompt too. Now I dont have to stay school just to use a screen tablet. I am happy!
I have been using this tablet for months now, and it is a pleasure to work with. The few problems it has are so inconsequential that I can do nothing but recommend this product to anyone looking for a screen this size.
I am very happy with the tablet and hope XP-Pen continue to make products of this quality.
PROS:
– Great screen with great colours
– Comfortable pen with very low activation pressure
-Tilt function
-Express keys with a programmable dial wheel
– One cable
– Included screen protector
Cons:
– No VESA mounting option
– The nib remover scratches the nibs
THE BUILD:
The tablet’s made of sturdy plastic, unfortunately it has no options for VESA mounting at the back. It’s very thin, and lightweight, has no air vents and doesn’t overheat.
The included stand is practically unusable because of the tilt angle. In fact, I’d be happier if it wasn’t included at all, and the saved costs be used to improve the tablet itself.
There are 8 distinguishable express keys with a red dial wheel. The express keys can be distuinguished by touch and feel good to press.
The dial is a feature I didn’t know I needed until i tried it. Spinning it can make you zoom in/out, change brush size, or even work as extra 2 individual functions (spinning left = step backwards, spinning right = step forward).
THE DISPLAY
The display is a 1080p IPS panel, clear and sharp, capable of displaying very accurate colours after calibration. It does have a slight yellow tint towards the edges, which are taken up by software UI anyway. The tablet comes with a removable pre-applied matte screen surface protector. The screen itself is glossy, but the protector does a great job at reducing glare and adding some texture to the surface. The screen protector’s quality is questionable, as mine scratched in the first few days, but I have since replaced it with a third party solution.
Either way, having any screen protection out of the box is a great foresight and I hope XP-Pen will do include a removable screen protector in all of their products.
This display is laminated, which reduces the distance between the surface you draw on and the display. The reduced parallax is great, however because of this, pressure gets transfered to the IPS panel and hue shifts will pulsate through the screen when you press the pen too hard. This is a drawback of having a laminated screen, and it is present on every tablet with a laminated screen, so I don’t count it as a con.
THE PEN
The pen is very comfortable to hold. It’s very similar to the Wacom Cintiq pens, although a bit lighter, but still substantial enough to not feel like a toy.
The tip of the pen has very little amount of play, which is a huge bonus for me. It doesn’t *click* every time you put the pen to the screen. This also means the activation force needed for the tablet to register a stroke is very tiny.
The pen pressure was a little jumpy for me, but works perfect after adjusting the pressure curve in the drivers.
This pen also has a tilt function. This works surprisingly well. I use the tilt function to rotate brushes, and about every 60 degrees there is a slight “jump” to the next 60 degrees when tilting the pen around in a circular motion. The tilt function works perfectly for what it was designed, and works very well whatever you decide to use it for.
A massive plastic pen holder is included. Opening one side lets you access the pen, the cap doubling as a pen holder. It functions well. Unscrewing the other side reveals 8 extra nibs for the pen, along with a small hole to help you extract the nib from the pen.
CON: The hole is lined with a metal ring from the inside, and has cut a small dent into the my nib when removing it. This extra edge on the nib has scratched the screen protector, leaving rainbow-like marks on it. I advise on using nailcutters, pliers, or just extra care when trying to remove the nibs!
This product went far beyond my expectations. Note the drivers were flawless on my Dell game PC. My only complaint is the stand. I got their nicer one to have a better viewing angle because the one that comes with is not angled enough. (Spoilers, don’t do that. The alternative stand they sell is too small.) I wish they’d make a premium one specific to this tablet.
My son, who is attending college for design and animation loves this product.
I bought this as a cheaper option to wacom cintiq 13 and I don’t regret it. It works quite well and I enjoy drawing so much!
So, to start, I’ve seen a number of reviews that said they were completely unable to make this work with a multi-monitor set up, but I found this to be false in my case. I have two regular monitors, and this acts as a third. It took a bit of work, but I finally found the way to set it up properly and have had zero issues since then. There was only a really, really tiny scratch on the screen (which I think was my fault, but I have no memory of if it was on there before I peeled off the plastic or not, and it’s only able to be noticed at specific brightness levels and angles, and has no impact on functionality or detection). I purchased this in February of 2019 though, so maybe earlier products had some issues that mine didn’t.
In terms of technical functionality, I use Krita with it, and the detection, tilt support, etc. of the display worked great once I set Krita to use the proper amount of RAM. For Krita at least, there’s definitely an issue with detection if the program has restrictions on how much RAM from your computer it’s able to process, it might seem like the detection of the display isn’t that great, but it’s possible that it’s actually the above-mentioned RAM restrictions, so if you’re having trouble like I was, try to check for that and adjust them to something suitable for your computer’s specifications. As I said, after I diagnosed that it had nothing to do with the display, I’ve had no issues and haven’t had to adjust a thing.
On to the actual user experience of it, it’s very simple to set up (if you have multiple monitors, you might have to put in a bit more effort), and you can pretty much plug it in and go once the driver is set up. The length of the HDMI cord it comes with is decent, so unless you have a behemoth of a workspace, you should have plenty of length to position the display wherever you’d like. The weight of the pen definitely comes down to personal preference, but as someone who prefers the weight of something like a nice ballpoint pen, it feels perfect. The display itself has a good weight to it, so it doesn’t feel so light it’ll slide away if you put any pressure on it, but it doesn’t feel so heavy that it’s unpleasant to have it sitting in your lap for long periods. It also doesn’t generate a lot of heat either like a laptop or tablet might, so again, it’s great for long drawing periods or using it to take digital notes for studying or other academic/creative tasks. My only criticism here would be that the stand that it comes with really only has one, single resting position, so depending on how you like your drawing medium to be angled while you work, definitely look in to getting a display that has multiple locking positions.
All in all, despite what some of the reviews say, my experience with this has been virtually flawless, with most issues either being outside of the tablet, requiring some minimal effort to fix, or being so trivial that it doesn’t have an effect on experience or functionality. For the price it’s at, I highly recommend this display.
I got the previous model and recently updated to the pro version, totally worth it.
Here are my +/- thoughts

– The screen is just amazing, very nice color, contrast.
– I love that there is no Gap / parallax , ( no space between the tip of the pen and the pixels )
– The tablet is Slim, and easy to carry, Design is nice too.
– Nice pen overall
Cons :
– When you apply a very subtle pressure on the screen with the pen, it does not record a pressure, only after pushing a little bit more it will record it. ( its not a big deal and I got easily used to it )
– The calibration works well, however it will work only for the position of the pen you did the calibration for. ( as a result, when you tilt the pen other ways, the tip of the brush will offset from the pen tip )
Note for Xp pen for future versions :
Thanks for creating such an affordable high quality tablet, it truly is the best low cost tablet that I tried.
Here are the key points that I and most of xp pen users would love to see in a higher end XP pen Tablet in The future :
Next gen Xp-pen 22 or more inch Pro :
– Still Laminated
– Same screen quality as 15.6 pro, ( Maybe Pre calibrated )
– Higher Resolution ( Wqhd at least would be great , 4k would be ideal )
– Vesa support at the Back
– Option to open the Stylus and add weights , ( I think the 15.6 pro is a bit too light )
– Tip automatic offset following the tilt of the pen. ( Not sure how hard it could be )
– better Pen Sensitivity on very low pressure – so the start record would start at the lowest pressure of the pen.
– 800 to 1200 usd price tag. 😀
Thanks!
I love this drawing screen, it’s my first drawing pen display, it’s a keeper.
Pros:
-programmable buttons, scroll wheel is great.
-matt screen.
-tilt support, I love this, it really adds to tools that support this feature, makes lines look
more fluid and expressive.
-price.
Cons:
-multiple screens, to clarify I’ve noticed input lag when I’m running other intensive programs alongside my drawing
programs. For some reason the biggest offender is high quality audio streaming. This could be solved with a better processor.
-left handed setup, I am left handed, I bought this knowing there might be some more tech issues. I took my time and read instructions carefully, it was fine.
-pen, my first pen was faulty, after much troubleshooting I contacted customer support and they quickly sent a replacement for me after establishing it was a hardware issue. My replacement pen works perfectly. (if you have any issues remember to do this within the warranty period!)
[Setup]
Win 10 64bit

I am a digital artist, so my point of view comes from someone who is very comfortable with using non-screen tablets and creating digital art in general.
Do I think the screen tablet is worth it? yes, I love it.
Do I need the screen tablet? No, I see this as a luxury product, but if I were using a non-screen, I’d want that scroll wheel on it. (seriously handy)
Guide for lefties:
Follow the instillation guide, open display settings (right click on desktop), set xp-pen to extended display, set it to landscape flipped, finally calibrate the pen and customise the buttons. Unfortunately left handed doesn’t work with mirrored display.
Excellent build quality, solid software support. A little finicky to get up and running, but the online help is pretty good, and the company is quick to respond to queries. If you are a hobbyist or just dipping your toe into digital painting/drawing, then this is a great value starting tablet.
Gniale!!
Arrive rapidement, bien emballe
This is their latest product and the best! There is no latency and the laminated glass allows for very little parallax. The pen is very responsive and the surface feels great to draw on. It is also the perfect size and easy to move around. The accessories are also very high quality. I hope XP-Pen updates every other size to this standard, I am very impressed by it!
Works really good~!! <3 I'm so happy when it arrived!!
I had problems with paint tool sai which is my main art program but it was resolved with a few google searches. Works effortlessly on programs such as medibang, sketchbook and opentoonz.
Driver configuration always resets though... sadly.
Love the tablet! this will be my first digital art tablet and I must say It’s fantastic so far.
What I like:
1: It’s surprisingly light weight for the size.
2: The software installed no problems and was easy to calibrate.
3: Pen is comfortable and light weight as well.
4: Tablet feels nice very thin and doesn’t feel cheap.
What I don’t like:
1: The cable used to connect the tablet to the computer looks to be a custom design so if any part of it goes you’ll need to buy a new one from XP-pen. Not a deal breaker but I like braided cables If I must have cables on my desk.
2: The stand could be better and I’d pay for it to be. (it’s not adjustable at all)
3: Nothing else as of yet. Unless you use GIMP then you may have a few snags for the sensitivity not working strait away and it not being an easy fix to find. (tried it instead of clip studio first not a great idea…)
Overall it’s a great tablet and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to get a nice tablet for a budget price.
Additional info: (for anyone interested) The tablets build is aluminium on the back (if not it’s very convincing) With some rubber grips two large ones on the left and right sides and two small ones on the top and bottom. The front is plastic very slightly textured and the dial is aluminium with a plastic bit in the middle. (it’s not a button sadly)
The buttons on the side are all plastic and are very sensitive & are easily pressed accidentally. The pen is plastic with a rubber grip not much else to say about it. The included stand is made entirely of plastic with 4 rubber grips as I’ve said it could be better if it was more adjustable, being 6’6 the angle is alright for me but as time goes on the neck does get sore but it is very a sturdy stand no give at all. The gloves are a stretchy nylon material I’ve got large hands and it’s only slightly smaller than I’d like so it may not fit small hands.
I did my research for a month or so and decided to go with this one, the competing option being the 13″ Pro Cintiq. I don’t regret my decision, as I’ve saved myself money and I’m really happy with the performance of this tablet.
This is my first screen drawing tablet. The Wacom products are out of my price line other than the usual pen tablets like Intuos. So far I really like using this. I mainly use it for ZBrush and Photoshop.
I have two issues with this but I’m hoping the manufacturer fixes them in an update.
1) I routinely have to click multiple times on buttons in applications to get them to register.
2) The brightness cannot be set higher than 70 on the tablet or it shuts off and you have to go into the driver to reset things.
As others have said, the colors are slightly off but for me this does not have a critical impact for my ZBrush work. In Photoshop it’s easy enough to have a duplicate “master” window open on another monitor to check details while working on the X-Pen.
All in all, I’m happy with my purchase but I do very much hope for a quality driver update.
I’m on a Windows 10 system.
Bought this after using various non-display Wacom products.
I was worried at the time that every other brand would be flawed compared to them, but buy was I wrong.
This tablet has been an exceptional piece of tech for the price.
Not even for the price! I’d expect this to have been closer to $500-600, not $400.
The build quality is excellent, not TOO heavy, but heavy enough where it doesn’t feel cheap.
The buttons and dial are responsive and solid, and the pen feels solid, though I would have liked the button near the pen tip to protrude like the other button does.
The pen tilt feels great, especially in software that utilizes it well, like Rebelle 3 and Photoshop.
The screen is beautiful, and actually has a higher NTSC color gamut (88%) compared to the similarly sized Wacom 16HD (72%). Also, unlike the Wacom 16HD, the screen is Laminated, much like a smartphone or touch-screen tablet, which reduces the space between the drawing surface/pen tip and the screen, known as “Parallax.”
It comes pre-installed with an anti-glare screen protector, which, as it implies, reduces glare on the screen, but as I found more importantly, creates a textured surface similar to a classic pen tablet.
Installation of the cables is easy, you can plug the entirety of the 3 cables (HDMI, USB for pen function and USB for power,) directly into your PC or laptop, or use a cable extender that comes with the package, along with a USB power block (with several European/Australian power adapters,) and plug it into a power outlet to free up a USB port.
The tablet runs on a single USB Type-C, so no messy wire management going to the tablet.
The package also comes with a few other goodies;
A microfiber cleaning cloth, a spandex artist glove to keep skin oils off the screen (Only covers the pinky and ring fingers, is reversible,) and most importantly, a multi-functional pen case.
As seen in the pictures, it’s a tube with 2 unscrew-able ends, one to access the pen itself (which this cap doubles as a weighted pen stand,) and the other that holds 8 replacement pen nibs and a small hole to help remove the nib already in the pen.
The ONLY downside to this package, although I understand completely, is the stand it comes with.
While it’s sturdy enough, it only sits at a certain (low) angle. I’d suggest looking into one of the several 3rd party stands that support a 16 inch pen display such as this.
As of my time of purchase (March 13th, 2019,) the drivers are quite robust, although a little obtuse.
Actually getting the express keys to stay on a certain function seems tedious, I’ve had to export the express key file, then re-import it after, just to keep the express keys set between computer shut-downs.
The functionality of the drivers themselves are amazing, though.
Gone are the issues of wobbly lines when drawing slowly and precisely, especially at an angle, and calibration works well, I haven’t had issues with the cursor offsetting.
Giving it 3 stars for portability, though, since it is a decent weight and size, though I wouldn’t imagine dragging this thing everywhere with me, but that’s just my usage.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with my purchase, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-range pen display tablet, or even the XP-Pen Artist 12 priced at $250. While lacking a Laminated screen, seems to be well received like the Artist 15.6 Pro here.
I am a digital art hobbyist of 10 years, and XP-Pen and I made our first encounter in 2015. It has since made it’s mark on me for being the option in my budget, for providing excellent customer service. I have not bought all of XP-Pen’s tablets- but the ones I have bought all still work. That’s how I prefer it. I also really enjoy XP-Pen’s culture, as the community tends to cater to everyone and not just the professional. This is also reflected in the product quality they offer for the price point.
It’s beautiful. It’s amazing, and I recommend it in a heart beat. But we all know display tablets aren’t just some impulse buy. I feel as an artist, the biggest struggle in digital art purchasing a product that has a design-flaw that to interupts one’s artistic flow. This product provides me a path to my artistic flow without much technological disruption.
SO FOR THE MEAT OF IT— What aspects do cause this distruption?– Calibration and RGB matching!! It can take about 40 minutes for the tablet to require a re-calibration. I have found this improving over time- and learning it’s habits.
Advice to avoid the need for re-calibration:
– Use the tablet as a different display window (pulling it onto your monitor from time to time to check matching RGB)
-Do not full screen anything on any other monitor while drawing.
-Windows display and its drivers seem to still be a work in progress. That being said- once in awhile when you’re shifting in and out of doing art- you may have to restart your entire computer and not just your tablet. Also if calibration isn’t working- restart the computer.
As for color matching- the colors can shift on the display. While at first you’ll want to ensure the colors match your monitor- you’ll find they will shift over time drawing it. So you’ll want to get in the habit of checking your colors to ensure they match if you do some fine art.
However– all of this (and the left hand-integration) can be remedied as their driver software improves. This is also a fairly new tablet and updating your drivers is free. This is a really good deal considering the faults i’ve ran into with hardware and tablets over the years. For it’s only major annoyance- it’s really not that bad. If you are a realistic artist, a landscape artist, or a left handed artist– and those were your major concerns right now in your tablet search– talk to XP-pen’s live chat link on their website and you can ask them about color matching & calibration improvements in their drivers. This is March 2019 at my time of writing this.
Also note-
1. Get a new stand for it. The one it comes with is actually solid- but it comes with a dangerous learning curve for the tablet. Plus your back will hate it.
2. If your set-up with a desktop on a nice big desk (vs, a laptop) Get yourself and HDMI extension cord. First take note on your desktop– if a string can’t make it’s way over your chords between your HDMI port and your USB ports in the back- you’re gonna want a rather short (like 6 inches) HDMI extension cable. My computer is this way and the case is from 2011. If you don’t need it- well it’s not a bad recommendation because it’s nice to have some play room to put your feet up on have in on your lap.
I am very pleased with my drawing tablet. It took 5 days to get here. I was more than surprised by how fast I received it. It’s in great shape and works great so far. This item is surpassing the expectations I had. Thank you for the great service and product.
First of all, thank you to XP Pen for delivering this much sooner than expected!!
XP Pen makes amazing products that can compete with the big guys, but for affordable prices. They are quickly advancing while still caring about their customers. Other companies need to learn from these guys!
I have an XP Deco 01 that i absolutely love, but was ready to switch onto a display monitor. Was honestly a little sad when i started to pack it up lol
I have only had my 15.6 pro one day and already love it as well. The display and colors are beautiful. Very little to no parallax. Pressure sensitivity is spot on. You get 8 hot keys AND a dial. The dial has already helped save me so much time. Was super easy for me to set up on my laptop and get started right away. I didn’t need the extra cable for the power, my laptop was able to power it alone. Great buy for both beginners and advanced. Can’t wait to continue using this product!!
I have included some photos that don’t do the product any justice in how beautiful it actually is.
I purchased this to upgrade and add to my collection of intuos (3,4 and 5 large) that I use with Painter 18 and 19. I was worried about pen accuracy, driver issues, and quality problems that other reviewers talk about concerning non-wacom devices. After spending too much time researching customer sentiment on alternative drawing displays, I took the plunge, and I’m glad I did.
I had no issues flipping the display to left hand use (180 degrees, express keys right) after mirroring my main display. The only thing I had to figure out was the reprogramming the keys, as the express key order is upside down in the driver panel after you flip it for left hand use. It took me like 20 seconds to figure this out, and I’m sure they can fix this in a driver update (which they seem to update quite frequently)
I am not going to say my art got better because of this display, but it sure has become a ton more fun to create, and it tends to make me want to draw more. Being able to see exactly where you pen is in relation to whatever details your trying to draw is amazing to me, and is something the regular non display drawing tablets could never re-create.
Initial activation force on the pen is slightly different then a Wacom pen, but once I got used to it, I quickly forgot about the small pen differences as I drew.
I have been using this for about 2 weeks straight now, and I cannot see any nib wear, so good job on the surface. It grabs almost like paper, but doesnt leave traces of your nib behind like an Intuos 5 would.
Pen accuracy is quite good. I think one of the first things I did was test the corners and edges of the display. Pen tip and cursor were spot on. (very big plus for me)
I suspect Xp-Pen is working on a larger bonded screen like their new 15.6 pro in the 22” range ‘maybe’ due out later this year. I know what I want for Xmas : )
I’m coming at this product as a casual hobbyist, though I use a graphics tablet for anywhere between 4-8 hours per day, so I think my use case would apply to some professional users as well. I’ve used Wacom’s Intuos tablets for about 10 years, and decided to finally upgrade to a display tablet, and went with this product because of its aggressive pricing. I figure that the closest Wacom analog to this product would be the discount Cintiq 16, which is 150 USD more and appears to have no significant advantages other than branding. I’m happy to say that with whatever compromises this product makes when compared to Wacom’s products, it was definitely worth the difference in price, to me.
The device draws quite well, but not as flawlessly as the Wacom products I’ve used in the past. After calibrating, my brush strokes come out as smooth and as natural as I want them to, and I have a good feeling of control. When I first got the device, I couldn’t help but feel that the stylus felt a bit cheap; it is slightly lighter than Intuos styli, the rubber grip is not as dense, and the seam in the rubber is more noticeable. After roughly two months of regular use, the feeling has worn off and the pen feels natural. Of note is that fast strokes look far better than very slow, deliberate ones; this is probably due to the sensor over-correcting while polling for the stylus’ position. It is unclear if this is an issue that could be resolved in future driver updates; however, for my drawing workflow, it’s a non-issue. Clip Studio, Photoshop, etc. will typically have stabilization options to correct for this as well.
This product also ships with an anti-glare coating pre-installed. However, this coating is likely a stock material, and was not intended to be used in a scenario where it is touched with quite a bit of pressure, resulting in streak marks. These look conspicuously like scratches, even if they are merely indentations in the coating, causing the monitor’s light to refract. The effect is noticeable, and mildly distracting, but I’m happy enough with the anti-glare feature to not pull it off. The film is completely removable, and thus probably replaceable, but I’ll leave mine on for now. The laminated display is stellar, however, resulting in negligible parallax. It’s about as good as drawing on paper; and with the anti-glare coating, it feels like it, too. Some may complain about the lack of touch capability; however, I’m squarely in the it’s-not-a-phone-so-why-touch-it camp, so that’s another non-issue for me.
I’ve included images of the stroke wobble and the anti-glare indentations as seen through a macro lens.
Of note is the relatively simple setup; one driver installation, and the whole operation is fairly plug and play. The product’s driver is still quite new and I ran into some issues with multiple displays and the display could not be rotated for left-handed use as promised in the product’s description. However, since the most recent driver update, these issues have been resolved, showing the company wants to take care of their product. Their website indicates that a beta version of a Linux driver is in the works; I don’t have a working Linux box running so I can’t test it, but the prospect of portability is quite nice.
Do beware, however, if you happen to use a combination of macOS and Clip Studio Paint. As of 3-1-19, there is a bug in CSP that will cause modifier keys to stick while the stylus is hovering over the tablet. This does not occur in any other programs on macOS or windows, only in the Mac version of CSP. If this is your main setup, I’d look elsewhere, as this is such a bizarre and small bug that I don’t foresee it being fixed. I switched to drawing with my Windows 10 Pro setup and everything works great.
Honestly, I was completely able to afford one of Wacom’s Cintiq or Mobile Studio products, but tried this one out to see how much of the Wacom price tag is just branding. I can see definite differences in build quality and materials, but due to their swift driver updates and affordability, I think I’m going to try and stick to XP-Pen’s products for a while.
I really like the pen tablet itself. It does not feel cheap, the screen is excellent for the price point. The pen is an improvment over previous models. Wacom needs to up its game as the hardware is becoming very close to wacoms offering. Where the tablet is let down which seems to the case for all the non-wacom system is software drivers, it’s kind of flaky. The only way I found to calibrate it was to disable the main monitor then restart the system with only the XP-Pen plugged in. Also the Linux drivers have not been updated at all so I can’t get it working outside of Windows, if they don’t then I will be forced to go back to Wacom. I tend not to like docking review scores for drivers as they could be improved a few days after this review.
So the tablet (XP-PEN Artist15.6 Pro 15) is great and worth the money and easily challenges Wacoms cheaper 15.6 version, just double check the drivers will do what you need.
This thing might be my favourite piece of hardware ever! After reading endless reviews and watching countless YouTube videos about the new wave of budget graphics tablets, I eventually took the plunge on this one – it was the laminated display the pushed me over the edge. I am running it with both a 2017 iMac and a 2012 MacBook Pro using Photoshop and Illustrator and it works flawlessly – responsive, accurate, easy to set up, natural in use and an absolute pleasure to use. Comfortable well designed pen. Colours look vibrant and to my eyes very accurate. Having never owned a graphics display before (in the past I have drawn on paper, scanned and traced in Illustrator), it’s impossible for me to compare to the Wacoms. But aside from having a higher resolution display it’s very hard to see how this could be any better than it is. I absolutely love it and my 5 yo daughter thinks it’s the most brilliant thing she’s ever seen – can’t recommend it highly enough.
