We run it in our living room all day every day (while we are awake). It’s quiet and relaxing. Filter looks like it’s doing it’s job, but filter indicator is still green. Kitchen is next room and while cooking, the indicator changes colors, so it’s working. Runs green quite a bit, and room is breathable! I am giving it a few months and if my opinion stays the same, I’m getting one for the bedroom.
Works like a charm. During pollen season, with windows open, I could see air quality indicator going red. Windows closed, in a couple of hours, the air quality indicator was blue. Bought the air purifier for a highly allergic dog to pollen, now the dog is scratching very little.
This air purifier cleans a large amount of air within minutes. Tried many other brands, and none could outmatch Alen’s air purifier. No more running nose and excessive coughing for my newborn baby. It easily cleans a large master bedroom.
The light color indicator for the air quality is super accurate. Haven’t tried the wireless feature yet, but it is nice to know it has that option for remote settings on/off.
A little early to tell but it appears to be a very well thought out product. The changing light colors when a door is opened let you know it is doing its job.
Purchased two 45i units, on sale for $325.00 each, plus two B4-Fresh replacement filters for $93.00 each. Shipping was quick at 2 days, Only been using for a day, but very pleased so far with ease of operation, low noise even on the Turbo speed and the size. Also appreciate the long 6′ + power cord. I registered both units for extended warranty on Alen’s website, and got confirmation by email, but disappointed that the advertized “Forever Guarantee” doesn’t seem to be available in Canada, nor can you even order accessories, or replacement filters directly from Alen for delivery in Canada. Still unsure and confused on whether registering the products extends the warranty from 1 year to 5 years, as per Alen’s website, as website wouldn’t allow for a Canadian address. Alen’s Customer Service stated that they hope that delivery service and Forever Guarantee will be available in Canada soon.
Purchased this to replace another air cleaner in my bedroom. Works very well, so quiet that my watch winder is louder than this. I vacuum the filter once a week to extend the life of everything.
I followed consumer report’s recommendation and went with the alen breathsmart machine. I have used it for 3 days and so far I am loving it!
I have dust allergies and this does the trick. I sleep well and I dont have as bad of a plugged nose in the morning as before.

One con is the manual sucks. Sometimes my machine has this wifi looking symbol on and I dont know what it does. The machine becomes possessed and starts cycling through fan speed and turns off on its own. It only happened once and I dont know whats going on.
I’ve had the ALEN 45i Air Purifier for a week. I like ALL features — not too many — just enough. One example is the indicating lights that can be turned off if you choose (not like so many of these “energy vampires” that are constantly illuminated on today’s electrical devices). Well packaged, super easy to set up in about 60 seconds, no complicated manuals to read. Accurate. Intuitive. As soon as I started up my ultrasonic humidifier nearby my Alen, it sensed the water minerals spewed in the air & the indicator lights turned purple, then red. After the humidifier was disengaged, & the air slowly cleared, Alen’s indicator lights slowly returned to blue again. That’s why I believe it’s accurate. It’s only been a week, so I’ll continue to monitor. Yes, I have read that the only way you get the lifetime warranty is to sign up for automatic refills. I may still do that if I can get one of the higher end Alen filters in which I am interested.
I previously had the Blueair Blu Pure 211 purifier (rated #4 by Consumer Reports), but decided to return that one for some of its deficiencies & choose this Alen 45i instead. The Alen 75i BreathSmart is rated #1 by Consumer Reports. My review here is ONLY about the Alen 45i, but I hope both rate #1. As usual, I will update my review if necessary.
This is very quiet and works well. I ran it for a year before finding out that the filter that it’s delivered with needs to be removed, unwrapped and replaced before use. It works great once I found that out. It looks nice too. It is thicker than you’d think from the pictures.
We decided to purchase an air purifier thinking it might help with allergies and overall wellness. It has worked well so far. We just started using it a few weeks ago and my husband hardly snores now! That’s a plus for sure. It is super quiet too and is easy to move from room to room.

I really like this purifier!! I just wish I got the heavy smoke filter because sometimes the cigarette smoke from my neighbor is not sucked up quicker enough. Gonna try moving it on the side of the room I feel the smoke filters in from and see if there’s an improvement. I do feel it’s over priced though! That’s why one star off.
Bought this for our bedroom to help with our allergies. I love how quiet it is once it has completed initial cleansing of the room atmosphere. Once you start it, let it run on automatic, it will shift to low speed after the room is cleansed. Afterwards it will shift back to higher speeds if it detects new airborne contamination — like hairspray, open windows, dusty sheets, etc. I also like the color LED light that gives you a visual indication of how clean the air is.
Lastly I like that you can turn the indicator lights off while it’s still running — great for bedrooms.
Worth the cost. My miserable hay-fever symptoms have improved considerably since I got this air purifier. This machine is so very easy to set up and so simple to use — a pleasure in this day of 200-page instruction manuals for even the most minor of gadgets. With just a few clear, simple instructions, this air purifier is a breeze (no pun intended). I read that it was designed by a NASA engineer, and I believe it — it seems very sensitive to what’s going on in the environment; e.g., when a crew was drilling up the sidewalk a block away from me, the air-quality light on the machine turned red (alert). I have the machine set to “auto,” so it ramped itself up, and the light soon turned back to green. The slim design is sleek and attractive. Overall, I would call this machine not only effective, but also elegant.
I live in a 1600 sq ft house in a windy part of Palm Springs, CA. I’ve been battling dust, pollen and an army of particulate matter from the day I moved in. After two years, and a hay fever stricken dog, I ordered two. I wasn’t at all convinced, but the reviews said what I needed to hear. They arrive in brilliant packaging, are beautiful out of the box and just plug in and go to work. In less than thirty minutes I could tell a difference. Within a few hours the house was noticeably more comfortable. They have significantly reduced the volume of particulate matter in my house. My dog’s sinus issues went away. They are amazing. I love them. And my dogs and I highly recommend them. Value for the money? 5starsx2 @ least. Maybe more.

Value for money $ ? IMO id say yes. However if you have the $600-ish it cost and want something quieter and slimmer those can be had for only $200-ish or so more. ( you will hear it / like a fan on med setting )
If you want this for “Natural Smokers” it works ! Get the heavy smokers filter. The one it comes with will be decent too.
This works best in small apartments 1-2bds. Leave the door closed and smell gets evaporated quickly.
For all other users it works ! Fresh air , Easier night sleep , for me less allergic reactions.
It has a fat back so make sure you have the space for small corners.
Blown Away! We recently moved into a completely renovated 100 year old home. Everything was new, except the basement. I was extremely insecure about having a “Home Smell” if you know what I mean. We installed a custom cat door into the basement door when we first moved in and to my surprise I smelled the musty basement even through that door. The basement odor has bothered me since settlement day. After tons of research, I came across this gem. Knowing this product would not only clean the air my family was breathing but ALSO improve the musty smell, it was a must to purchase. Granted it’s only been running for 3 days straight, I’m am EXTREMELY impressed. I will continue to purchase new filters and keep this machine running. I’m even purchasing another one for our third floor. It’s worth every penny! I even hooked up the WiFi feature so I can check the status on my phone. The app that it can sync to it quite basic( doesn’t show air quality reading) but it does show the status of the purifier. It gives me piece of mind when I’m not home. I will forever be an “Alen” customer.
I have had this purifier for about a month. It is very quiet which I think is a great attribute. It is easy to use. I will review it again after more use to let you know how well it is cleaning the air.
This is a costly humidifier but I’m very satisfied. It is fairly quiet – the lowest setting is very quiet. As the rating increases, it gets louder but not too loud to tolerate. It’s very sensitive. I have one in my upstairs bedroom and if i cook anything that smells (like egg) it picks it up.
We’ve used our Alan filter almost continually for 1 year. We had wildfires near our home last year, and it did a great job of keeping our inside air clean. I love the design and the functionality.
This product was super easy to set up. It is quiet unless it is on the high speed which only occurs if there are significant irritants in the air. The device is super slim and not obtrusive. I recommend it highly.

Based on a favorable review in Consumer Reports I purchased a Blueair 211+. I have returned that unit, and replaced it with an Alen Breathesmart 45i, so this review will be a comparison of the two. Both are approved by the state of California as not producing harmful levels of ozone, sometimes a side-effect of ion generation. Both units have ion generation, but on the Alen you can turn it on or off. I found the Blueair caused increasing eye irritation over several days, which I have not experienced with the Alen ion generator turned off.
While the Alen is a bit more expensive (depending on the confusing filter choices on the Blueair), it also has a greater square footage capability. If you like the Alen features, you can get most of them at a lower cost in the Breathesmart Flex.
Here is what I prefer in the Alen 45i. As mentioned, you can turn the ion generator on or off. It has a five color indicator for real time air particulate level, which I have seen change when I clean up a dusty room or empty a document shredder into a waste container. You can set the fan speed to auto, which will change the speed based on the detected air quality. It has a TrueHEPA filter rated at H13. This compares to the HEPAsilent terminology of the Blueair, which you can find criticism of online and which I noticed you can see through when I returned the unit. The Alen has multiple, easy to use lighted controls, and you can turn the light level up, down or off.
If this review sounds like a am an Alen salesman, I am not — just a retired consumer with no involvement ever in the industry. As to the Consumer Reports ratings, the Blueair is recommended as is the Alen Breathesmart Classic (which is larger and older than the Alen 45i). They did not test the newer Alen 45i. In real world use, I find a slam dunk favorite in the Alen Breathesmart 45i compared to the Blueair 211+, both in results and its’ much greater user friendliness and flexibility to control.

Even though the schnauzer is considered hypoallergenic, I know that no dog is truly hypoallergenic. We have a small 880 foot condo and keep her crate in the living room. Starting on the first evening we had her, my allergies started to flare up, as well as my wife’s. This was not acceptable. I originally had a levoit large room purifier but knew it was time to step it up. After perusing Amazon reviews, I decided on the Alen Breathe smart i45. A major plus to this unit was the air sensor which automatically adjusts speed and intensity based upon air quality. When I first got it, I immediately plugged it in and it got to work. The air quality light showed red and it continued running at high intensity for several hours and I saw the air quality improving. After a day or two, my allergy symptoms were completely gone. I was ecstatic! This purifier is meant to run 24/7, so that is what I do. It is a LIFESAVER! Now we can co exist with our four legged friend in peace. Make sure to register on their site for the lifetime warranty activation. I also signed up for the filter subscription as it makes things easier than having to manually order. I would recommend this purifier to anyone who has allergies and/or wants better air quality! Can’t give this thing enough praise. Note: Few comments here recommend the gosund app for wifi monitoring. While I tried doing so and it did work, I quickly cancelled the connection and deleted the gosund app. I think it’s a security risk to give some unknown app your WiFi network password, and also when I contacted Alen, they said there is no app right now for monitoring purposes. The wifi capability is for remote troubleshooting if issues arise. So I recommend not using any third party app with the purifier.

Love it. We have dogs even though I’m allergic to them. I used to sneeze a lot sitting with the dogs but now with this filter running next to the couch I hardly sneeze anymore. And when we cook and you smell cooking smells in the house this filter system automatically increases the fan speed to clean the air faster. It works great and getting those cooking smells out of the air. Before our house would smell like food for hours after cooking and now the smell clears up in about 30 minutes. And with the life time warranty, if you subscribe to the annual filter shipment, I feel it is a great value. I compared the cost of replacement filters on Amazon to their auto direct ship subscription and it is the same price. So why not have the life time warranty? And you only have to replace the filter once a year for a cost of just under $100 per filter. We are thinking about getting a second one of these for the upstairs.

This air purifier is everything you want in a large room machine – surprisingly quiet even on the highest setting. It has a useful indicator to show how the current air quality is compared to how much it could improve, and you can either set it on auto or turn it up at your preference.
It has a slim profile for such a powerful machine and is quite attractive since it matches our appliances and decor. I though it would stand out as an eyesore and seem out of place, but it looks like it was designed to be right there – looking out for your air quality as you go about your normal routine.
Very easy to take the cover off to clean out the first-line filter. After seeing it just the first week, it’s shocking to physically see how much “junk” is in our air that I didn’t realize we were breathing. So much less sneezing and stuffiness now!

I really like the alen breath smart 45i. I use it in my man cave smoking cigars. The room is about 600sf. It detects cigar smoke pretty quick and auto up to turbo speed. Takes about two hours to settle down after I finish smoking. To its credit, I purchased the regular silver smoke filter so next time I’ll try the heavy smoke and update review. But I have never seen a review for alen breathsmart in a cigar room. Hey alen, if you read this send me a heavy smoke filter and I’ll review lol. But if your not a smoker, you will be 1000% happy with this product. I’ll give it a solid 7 for cigars, and a 10+ for anything else
Amazing in its ability to filter and circulate air We using it when our children visit and after they leave us. I believe the charcoal filter makes the difference as I am comparing to another high end product I use in a smaller room. Not mentioning the competitor’s name as I still use and would highly recommend that one as well.
Habe das Gert seit einem Tag im Betrieb und bin bisher begeistert. Der Alen BreatheSmart 45i macht einen sehr wertigen und robusten Eindruck, hnlich wie ein Gert aus der Medizintechnik. Der Luftdurchsatz durch den Filter ist bereits in der kleinsten Betriebsstufe, in der der Ventilator kaum zu hren ist, enorm hoch. Es ist ein sehr gut durchdachtes Gert, die Inbetriebnahme und Bedienung sind einfach und intuitiv. Der Filter gab bei Inbetriebnahme keinen Geruch ab.
Mir wurde zunchst irrtmlicherweise ein Gert ausgeliefert, das fr den Markt im UK bestimmt war und daher nicht den passenden Netzstecker fr deutsche Schuko-Dosen hatte. Das Problem wurde sehr professionell, schnell und umstandslos von Alen International zu meiner vollkommenen Zufriedenheit gelst.
Das Gert ist sauber verarbeitet, arbeitet recht leise und ist einfach bedienbar.
Viel Plastik, sitzt aber trotzdem alles gut und wackelt nicht.
Der Filter lsst sich gut tauschen und wirkt robust.
Weitere Punkte zeigen sich vermutlich in den nchsten Monaten, bisher ein sehr guter Eindruck.
Mir wurde zuerst das falsche Gert zugesendet. Nach einer Rcksprache mit Alen UK (Verkufer) haben die super reagiert, sich gut gekmmert und auch nachgefragt ob alles in Ordnung ist. Habe ich so noch nicht erlebt, dafr auch volle Punktzahl.
Update 1/31/22: Filter still awesome, always have gotten through on tech support when I had issues (filter I was sent wasn’t working properly–they replaced immediately). Anecdotally, I take care of immunosuppressed and with this filter in the room plus staff (which 3 have had covid–we use masks too), no positive covid results for client. Take that for what it’s worth. When California is on fire this thing is a life saver. When the neighbor smokes in his bedroom this thing cuts it out at the door. I don’t have a constant headache during allergy season. I am so pleased I got a 75i too as we have radon in the basement. Haven’t checked post radon levels though. The activated carbon for the 75i is like 3.6lbs with the fresh filter and greater than 2lbs with the smoke filter on the 45i. Pretty sweet.

When on the lowest setting the noise level tricks you into thinking it’s off. It seems to be working well so far, when I cook the sensor picks it up. There doesn’t seem to be an air leak as when I took off the prefilter to clean it the dust was pretty uniform.
This purifier is a life saver! We had horrible smoke all summer and fall from forest fires in area and then COVID happened- in our home!! It runs 24/7 and is soooooo much easier for us all to breathe. Don’t even know it is running most of time!!! And being able to pay off in 5 payments was awesome!!! Thanks so much!! For years, I have woken up with a coughing fit, runny or stuffed up nose, and eye boogers. The first few nights with this amazing machine have been with a clear nose and no cough! Amazing improvement starting the very first try.
What started as browsing for an inexpensive air purifier became a $2000 investment in health. Years ago I took efforts to make sure my water was double filtered coming from our well. To this day our water is the best I have ever tasted. Even my wife noticed the quality difference and she is usually oblivious to such things. Everything started a little over six weeks ago. When I finally decided an air purifier was in our best interest I researched every make and model possible, as I’m sure many of you do. Alen had a few bad reviews, but their specs and design grabbed my attention. Their filters are exceptional and longer lasting. The machines are very energy efficient. My 75i never goes over 20watts. Haven’t tested the 45i yet, but assume it is close. No point in running a machine 24/7 if you are worried about your electric bill the whole time. Alen can be controlled remotely using the GoSund app and it gives you the pm2.5 count as well. Up to this point other reviews have all mentioned what I have said so far.
I studied cadr rates and air change intervals ad nauseam. The thing I learned is that the square footage claims by all manufacturers are exaggerated if you truly want allergy free air or close to it. A cadr of 247 might effectively filter up to 375sq ft not 800 ft. That is figuring closer to 5 air changes vs 2 per hour. Again all manufacturers do this. I’m running two 75i’s and one 45i in an area of 1400ft with high ceilings. Is my air cleaner than it ever has been? You bet. One would of helped for sure, but the three working together purify the air a little quicker and much more often. It still takes an hour or two to get air quality at good levels after cooking. No exhaust fan present in our house. I got Covid a month ago today and I honestly believe the quality of my air made an incredible difference. The H13 hepa filters most likely reduced the amount of the virus in the air along with a hepa vacuum. I know most people can not afford more than one of these. For bigger spaces a 75i is where you need to be looking. If sleeping problems are more of an issue than the 45i is perfect for bedrooms. It is where I have mine.
Alen reminds me of Apple. I resisted Apple for years. Telling myself they were overpriced and overhyped. I’m writing this review on an iPad so what does that tell you? Once you are on their ecosystem everything else looks inferior. Same thing with Alen. When I was shopping for my third purifier on Black Friday I was only looking at Alen. They make you feel good about their products, service, warranty, and overall quality. We all need to feel good a little this year and not like you can go on vacation. Alen is an American company, so at least some of the benefit stays here. Look if you have read this far you most likely have an interest in this product. Try one. A 75i if you can swing it financially or a 45i if you have a smaller space or Christmas spending has got out of hand already. You will never know what you did without one. Oh and if you buy a second or third I’m betting it is an Alen.
Now that I’m working from home I figured it would be good to clean the air since I have a large Bernese Mt Dog and live on a dirt road. It’s so stylish everyone on my Zoom calls asks what brand and where I got it. It’s whisper quiet, I highly recommend this.
My absolute favorite possession at the moment. Looks great and works great. Recently got a cat — which my son is allergic to. Since purchasing this, my son can hang out in the living room with no problem again. There is a lot of sunlight in the room and we used to see cat hair flying around. That is no longer a problem with our Alen.
Honestly, this could go up to 5 stars any day. But for now, I’ll just stay with a cautious 4 star. I spent way too much time assessing the best air purifiers for our home. Yes, probably a solid week. And while one purifier looked like it had a slightly better functionality, the Alen won out for its looks. Here is an air purifier that actually doesn’t look like an eyesore! It blends in well with our modern home and with its woodgrain dark espresso cover, it looks more like a piece of furniture rather than an ugly old hunk of plastic.
What I do like it that it has a color indicator showing how clean the air is. Yes, very gratifying to see it track from red to orange to green to blue. However with the unit (I bought two) downstairs (kitchen) it mostly hangs out in the orange zone with an occasional trickle into green. Does this mean it’s not working up to full capacity? Does this mean that it does take a month plus before it is at maximum effectiveness?
Overall, I do think this will end up being a great purchase. And, based on a very thorough examination of all the alternatives out there, I would buy the Alen again.
Love this product. Had construction going on in my house and wanted to make sure the air quality was fine. This device was perfect. I highly recommend it.
Not as quiet as other reviews seem to indicate – or perhaps other purifiers are just really loud. Seems to do the trick – air seems cleaner and fresh – we’re in heavy and sustained wildfire smoke these days. Love the AQ light sensor and the automated operation that fluctuates with the room AQ. Recommend.
With the Bay Area full of smoke particles of variou sizes we kept our house closed up but there is still infiltration. We liked reviews of Alen products so two smaller units met our needs for living area downstairs and bedroom upstairs. The unit looks well made, functions well on automatic mode and it not too loud for the bedroom at night. This week (Sept. 28) is another 5 days of “Spare the air,” can smell the smoke outside, but inside is relatively peaceful. We can breathe.
So…I did A LOT of research before buying and I think I could have saved a lot of money by purchasing a different air purifier. What sold me on this unit was being able to purchase different filters and the lifetime warranty, BUT turns out you only get the lifetime warranty if you sign up for a filter subscription.
So if I could do this over, I would just buy a different air purifier with one really good filter.

I can’t say enough about this product we brought it to every room of the house and when it’s not on in the room where I am sleeping my allergies come right back it cleans quickly and there absolutely is a notice of difference in the way the air smells and feels I ordered a second one so both my upstairs and downstairs will feel this good- the auto and night feature are terrific – I had chronic watery eyes – GONE !!! I initially bought this product in preparation for the arrival of our baby. We keep it in our room, where baby sleeps in his bassinet. The biggest notice is that my husband used to wake up every morning with congestion and stuffiness. Ever since using this air filter, he hasn’t had an issue!
I wanted to allow myself some time to review this, and observe the Alen BreatheSmart in action before I wrote a review on it. I can say that of all of the air filtration systems, I like this one the best. Definitely superior to my old Winex and has better sensitivity than my Sharp FP-F60UW, with a respectable CADR rating.
It’s really useful in getting rid of cooking smells and returning the air to a neutral balanced feeling. The control panel and features on the device feel well made, and have good tactile response. The wooden decorative panel also makes it a bit less obtrusive in the living room.
On its highest setting, you do hear some wind noise, but its not nearly as disruptive as some of the other brands I’ve owned. I’d purchase this again.
A little pricey but worth it. Works great, easy to use. We are a dog training business so this was put to the test and it’s awesome. Definitely recommend it.

This is my 2nd purchase. The other one went to my oldest son who was having symptoms of allergies. I loved that one too. However, I needed one of these for my condo too. Who cares if I really can’t afford another purchase right now. Amazon made it so easy to justify this 2nd purchase. Plus, it works great. I rarely sneeze anymore. Before this purchase, I was experiencing unwanted sneeze fests around 8 PM most nights. WTH?! After setting this product up, goodbye sneeze fest. Hello peace and happy lungs!!
I was somewhat skeptical that this thing would filter out pet smells. Have it next to my cat’s litter box, and it is surprising at how fresh the room stays. Anyone looking to have litter box odor kept to a minimum, I would recommend this unit.
After about 30 days – so far, so good. I leave it on auto during the day, then set it on manual, speed 2 (faint fan sound), for sleeping. The control lights are bright, so I appreciate being able to turn them off and on as needed. My congestion seems to have improved, along with less morning coughing and sneezing.
This ordered was canceled due to misunderstanding about Amazon’s payment plan, but I did purchase it anyway from the vendor itself on sale for about $50 less. The purifier though expensive is top notch. If you buy this I would recommend to also buy the pre-filters which now sell on the vendors site. To power it off is a bit strange. You have to press the power off button twice. They do this because some people don’t like the light shining when sleeping so it’s like a toggle between the function buttons having light or no light. The replacement filters are expensive, but I run this all day greatly improving my sinuses. It is nice and quiet, and looks nice anywhere you place it in your home.
This is a very stylish HEPA filter that fits in nicely with our modern decor. I’m using this in our bedroom and find it isn’t noisy at all – just a soft, soothing hum similar to a white noise machine. It’s very easy to use and I like that it has a “lights off” mode so you’re not exposed to the blue light “ON” switch at night. Overall, a great-performing filter with a modern design.
I purchased two and they were easy to install and use. I keep them on automatic and run 24×7. Most importantly, I believe I am breathing better at night and yes, I have allergies and asthma. I may buy another one. I will also purchase one for my daughter.
I’ve had a pet cockatiel for about 2 years now. Beforehand dust never bothered me. Since having him around dust has been crazy. These little birds are like perpetual dust balls waiting to explode after a good preen. I started having allergy issues more often and I figured it was the bird. My house would be filled with dust feathers. Ever since getting this filter it’s been amazing. My apt still dusts but not as often and I definitely feel the air cleaner. It’s also good for the little bird as their little lungs don’t do well in stale air.
Before I owned my bird I used to keep my balcony door open whenever the weather was nice but I can’t do that anymore. He doesn’t have his wings clipped and he hangs outside of his cage free to fly inside the apt all day. This filter is a great alternative to opening the door for fresh air. Now I do keep the door open at night when he’s inside his cage sleeping so I can still get some fresh air from time to time.
I bought this 3/27/19. I Intentionally waited to give it a review because I wanted to see it if worked. I got this for my basement that always has a musty oder to it and I have severe allergies! I love it. Not only is the smell gone in my basement but Im breathing better. The indicator on the unit that tells you what the air quality is my favorite part, bc it lets me know its working. I have it set on auto so it senses when it needs to come on. Already thinking of buying one for my rooms upstairs.
We’ve had this about 10 days now, and so far it is working wonderfully. It’s much quieter and works better than the older filter we had from another company, which this one replaced. I like how easy the filter is to get to, which will make it extremely easy to change when the time comes.
The unit arrived 10 days ago and has been running smoothly and quietly,. It seems to cover quite well the entire living room area of about 800 sf. Then I noticed that the more recent Allen models have designations for bedroom, living room, or kitchen which is the model I bought. I held off my review until I received the clarification from the maker that each model can be used in any room in the house, and that the designation is just a marketing ploy. If it is ploy, I am not sure it is a clever one. Instead of being lured to buy different units for different rooms, I was tempted to return the one I bought thinking that the unit is not designed for the purpose intended. Straight forward description, honesty in other words, is still the best policy.
We run it in our living room all day every day (while we are awake). It’s quiet and relaxing. Filter looks like it’s doing it’s job, but filter indicator is still green. Kitchen is next room and while cooking, the indicator changes colors, so it’s working. Runs green quite a bit, and room is breathable! I am giving it a few months and if my opinion stays the same, I’m getting one for the bedroom.

Works like a charm. During pollen season, with windows open, I could see air quality indicator going red. Windows closed, in a couple of hours, the air quality indicator was blue. Bought the air purifier for a highly allergic dog to pollen, now the dog is scratching very little.
This air purifier cleans a large amount of air within minutes. Tried many other brands, and none could outmatch Alen’s air purifier. No more running nose and excessive coughing for my newborn baby. It easily cleans a large master bedroom.
The light color indicator for the air quality is super accurate. Haven’t tried the wireless feature yet, but it is nice to know it has that option for remote settings on/off.
A little early to tell but it appears to be a very well thought out product. The changing light colors when a door is opened let you know it is doing its job.

Purchased two 45i units, on sale for $325.00 each, plus two B4-Fresh replacement filters for $93.00 each. Shipping was quick at 2 days, Only been using for a day, but very pleased so far with ease of operation, low noise even on the Turbo speed and the size. Also appreciate the long 6′ + power cord. I registered both units for extended warranty on Alen’s website, and got confirmation by email, but disappointed that the advertized “Forever Guarantee” doesn’t seem to be available in Canada, nor can you even order accessories, or replacement filters directly from Alen for delivery in Canada. Still unsure and confused on whether registering the products extends the warranty from 1 year to 5 years, as per Alen’s website, as website wouldn’t allow for a Canadian address. Alen’s Customer Service stated that they hope that delivery service and Forever Guarantee will be available in Canada soon.
Purchased this to replace another air cleaner in my bedroom. Works very well, so quiet that my watch winder is louder than this. I vacuum the filter once a week to extend the life of everything.
I followed consumer report’s recommendation and went with the alen breathsmart machine. I have used it for 3 days and so far I am loving it!

One con is the manual sucks. Sometimes my machine has this wifi looking symbol on and I dont know what it does. The machine becomes possessed and starts cycling through fan speed and turns off on its own. It only happened once and I dont know whats going on.

We decided to purchase an air purifier thinking it might help with allergies and overall wellness. It has worked well so far. We just started using it a few weeks ago and my husband hardly snores now! That’s a plus for sure. It is super quiet too and is easy to move from room to room.

I really like this purifier!! I just wish I got the heavy smoke filter because sometimes the cigarette smoke from my neighbor is not sucked up quicker enough. Gonna try moving it on the side of the room I feel the smoke filters in from and see if there’s an improvement. I do feel it’s over priced though! That’s why one star off.
Bought this for our bedroom to help with our allergies. I love how quiet it is once it has completed initial cleansing of the room atmosphere. Once you start it, let it run on automatic, it will shift to low speed after the room is cleansed. Afterwards it will shift back to higher speeds if it detects new airborne contamination — like hairspray, open windows, dusty sheets, etc. I also like the color LED light that gives you a visual indication of how clean the air is.
Lastly I like that you can turn the indicator lights off while it’s still running — great for bedrooms.
Worth the cost. My miserable hay-fever symptoms have improved considerably since I got this air purifier. This machine is so very easy to set up and so simple to use — a pleasure in this day of 200-page instruction manuals for even the most minor of gadgets. With just a few clear, simple instructions, this air purifier is a breeze (no pun intended). I read that it was designed by a NASA engineer, and I believe it — it seems very sensitive to what’s going on in the environment; e.g., when a crew was drilling up the sidewalk a block away from me, the air-quality light on the machine turned red (alert). I have the machine set to “auto,” so it ramped itself up, and the light soon turned back to green. The slim design is sleek and attractive. Overall, I would call this machine not only effective, but also elegant.

I live in a 1600 sq ft house in a windy part of Palm Springs, CA. I’ve been battling dust, pollen and an army of particulate matter from the day I moved in. After two years, and a hay fever stricken dog, I ordered two. I wasn’t at all convinced, but the reviews said what I needed to hear. They arrive in brilliant packaging, are beautiful out of the box and just plug in and go to work. In less than thirty minutes I could tell a difference. Within a few hours the house was noticeably more comfortable. They have significantly reduced the volume of particulate matter in my house. My dog’s sinus issues went away. They are amazing. I love them. And my dogs and I highly recommend them. Value for the money? 5starsx2 @ least. Maybe more.

Blown Away! We recently moved into a completely renovated 100 year old home. Everything was new, except the basement. I was extremely insecure about having a “Home Smell” if you know what I mean. We installed a custom cat door into the basement door when we first moved in and to my surprise I smelled the musty basement even through that door. The basement odor has bothered me since settlement day. After tons of research, I came across this gem. Knowing this product would not only clean the air my family was breathing but ALSO improve the musty smell, it was a must to purchase. Granted it’s only been running for 3 days straight, I’m am EXTREMELY impressed. I will continue to purchase new filters and keep this machine running. I’m even purchasing another one for our third floor. It’s worth every penny! I even hooked up the WiFi feature so I can check the status on my phone. The app that it can sync to it quite basic( doesn’t show air quality reading) but it does show the status of the purifier. It gives me piece of mind when I’m not home. I will forever be an “Alen” customer.
I have had this purifier for about a month. It is very quiet which I think is a great attribute. It is easy to use. I will review it again after more use to let you know how well it is cleaning the air.
This is a costly humidifier but I’m very satisfied. It is fairly quiet – the lowest setting is very quiet. As the rating increases, it gets louder but not too loud to tolerate. It’s very sensitive. I have one in my upstairs bedroom and if i cook anything that smells (like egg) it picks it up.
We’ve used our Alan filter almost continually for 1 year. We had wildfires near our home last year, and it did a great job of keeping our inside air clean. I love the design and the functionality.

While the Alen is a bit more expensive (depending on the confusing filter choices on the Blueair), it also has a greater square footage capability. If you like the Alen features, you can get most of them at a lower cost in the Breathesmart Flex.
Here is what I prefer in the Alen 45i. As mentioned, you can turn the ion generator on or off. It has a five color indicator for real time air particulate level, which I have seen change when I clean up a dusty room or empty a document shredder into a waste container. You can set the fan speed to auto, which will change the speed based on the detected air quality. It has a TrueHEPA filter rated at H13. This compares to the HEPAsilent terminology of the Blueair, which you can find criticism of online and which I noticed you can see through when I returned the unit. The Alen has multiple, easy to use lighted controls, and you can turn the light level up, down or off.
If this review sounds like a am an Alen salesman, I am not — just a retired consumer with no involvement ever in the industry. As to the Consumer Reports ratings, the Blueair is recommended as is the Alen Breathesmart Classic (which is larger and older than the Alen 45i). They did not test the newer Alen 45i. In real world use, I find a slam dunk favorite in the Alen Breathesmart 45i compared to the Blueair 211+, both in results and its’ much greater user friendliness and flexibility to control.

Love it. We have dogs even though I’m allergic to them. I used to sneeze a lot sitting with the dogs but now with this filter running next to the couch I hardly sneeze anymore. And when we cook and you smell cooking smells in the house this filter system automatically increases the fan speed to clean the air faster. It works great and getting those cooking smells out of the air. Before our house would smell like food for hours after cooking and now the smell clears up in about 30 minutes. And with the life time warranty, if you subscribe to the annual filter shipment, I feel it is a great value. I compared the cost of replacement filters on Amazon to their auto direct ship subscription and it is the same price. So why not have the life time warranty? And you only have to replace the filter once a year for a cost of just under $100 per filter. We are thinking about getting a second one of these for the upstairs.

The Allen 45i does a great job at dispatching lingering kitchen odors and also pet and garbage can odors. (Which is why i bought it.) Since i have been spending time home for the last year I’ve found this to be extremely helpful. Its not too thick and doesn’t take up much space. It also has filtration level that you can adjust to make it quiet. Even when you have it turned up, the loudest it sound is close to the sound of a fan blowing. It does a great job neutralizing odors, and the air quality sensors seem pretty decent.
Amazing in its ability to filter and circulate air We using it when our children visit and after they leave us. I believe the charcoal filter makes the difference as I am comparing to another high end product I use in a smaller room. Not mentioning the competitor’s name as I still use and would highly recommend that one as well.
Mir wurde zunchst irrtmlicherweise ein Gert ausgeliefert, das fr den Markt im UK bestimmt war und daher nicht den passenden Netzstecker fr deutsche Schuko-Dosen hatte. Das Problem wurde sehr professionell, schnell und umstandslos von Alen International zu meiner vollkommenen Zufriedenheit gelst.
Das Gert ist sauber verarbeitet, arbeitet recht leise und ist einfach bedienbar.
Viel Plastik, sitzt aber trotzdem alles gut und wackelt nicht.
Der Filter lsst sich gut tauschen und wirkt robust.
Weitere Punkte zeigen sich vermutlich in den nchsten Monaten, bisher ein sehr guter Eindruck.
Mir wurde zuerst das falsche Gert zugesendet. Nach einer Rcksprache mit Alen UK (Verkufer) haben die super reagiert, sich gut gekmmert und auch nachgefragt ob alles in Ordnung ist. Habe ich so noch nicht erlebt, dafr auch volle Punktzahl.
Update 1/31/22: Filter still awesome, always have gotten through on tech support when I had issues (filter I was sent wasn’t working properly–they replaced immediately). Anecdotally, I take care of immunosuppressed and with this filter in the room plus staff (which 3 have had covid–we use masks too), no positive covid results for client. Take that for what it’s worth. When California is on fire this thing is a life saver. When the neighbor smokes in his bedroom this thing cuts it out at the door. I don’t have a constant headache during allergy season. I am so pleased I got a 75i too as we have radon in the basement. Haven’t checked post radon levels though. The activated carbon for the 75i is like 3.6lbs with the fresh filter and greater than 2lbs with the smoke filter on the 45i. Pretty sweet.

When on the lowest setting the noise level tricks you into thinking it’s off. It seems to be working well so far, when I cook the sensor picks it up. There doesn’t seem to be an air leak as when I took off the prefilter to clean it the dust was pretty uniform.
This purifier is a life saver! We had horrible smoke all summer and fall from forest fires in area and then COVID happened- in our home!! It runs 24/7 and is soooooo much easier for us all to breathe. Don’t even know it is running most of time!!! And being able to pay off in 5 payments was awesome!!! Thanks so much!! For years, I have woken up with a coughing fit, runny or stuffed up nose, and eye boogers. The first few nights with this amazing machine have been with a clear nose and no cough! Amazing improvement starting the very first try.
I studied cadr rates and air change intervals ad nauseam. The thing I learned is that the square footage claims by all manufacturers are exaggerated if you truly want allergy free air or close to it. A cadr of 247 might effectively filter up to 375sq ft not 800 ft. That is figuring closer to 5 air changes vs 2 per hour. Again all manufacturers do this. I’m running two 75i’s and one 45i in an area of 1400ft with high ceilings. Is my air cleaner than it ever has been? You bet. One would of helped for sure, but the three working together purify the air a little quicker and much more often. It still takes an hour or two to get air quality at good levels after cooking. No exhaust fan present in our house. I got Covid a month ago today and I honestly believe the quality of my air made an incredible difference. The H13 hepa filters most likely reduced the amount of the virus in the air along with a hepa vacuum. I know most people can not afford more than one of these. For bigger spaces a 75i is where you need to be looking. If sleeping problems are more of an issue than the 45i is perfect for bedrooms. It is where I have mine.
Alen reminds me of Apple. I resisted Apple for years. Telling myself they were overpriced and overhyped. I’m writing this review on an iPad so what does that tell you? Once you are on their ecosystem everything else looks inferior. Same thing with Alen. When I was shopping for my third purifier on Black Friday I was only looking at Alen. They make you feel good about their products, service, warranty, and overall quality. We all need to feel good a little this year and not like you can go on vacation. Alen is an American company, so at least some of the benefit stays here. Look if you have read this far you most likely have an interest in this product. Try one. A 75i if you can swing it financially or a 45i if you have a smaller space or Christmas spending has got out of hand already. You will never know what you did without one. Oh and if you buy a second or third I’m betting it is an Alen.
Now that I’m working from home I figured it would be good to clean the air since I have a large Bernese Mt Dog and live on a dirt road. It’s so stylish everyone on my Zoom calls asks what brand and where I got it. It’s whisper quiet, I highly recommend this.
What I do like it that it has a color indicator showing how clean the air is. Yes, very gratifying to see it track from red to orange to green to blue. However with the unit (I bought two) downstairs (kitchen) it mostly hangs out in the orange zone with an occasional trickle into green. Does this mean it’s not working up to full capacity? Does this mean that it does take a month plus before it is at maximum effectiveness?
Overall, I do think this will end up being a great purchase. And, based on a very thorough examination of all the alternatives out there, I would buy the Alen again.

I purchased two and they were easy to install and use. I keep them on automatic and run 24×7. Most importantly, I believe I am breathing better at night and yes, I have allergies and asthma. I may buy another one. I will also purchase one for my daughter.
Over priced.
Great machine but doesn’t feel as powerful as my last Honeywell. Still get some eye burgers and congestion’s at times
I’ve had a pet cockatiel for about 2 years now. Beforehand dust never bothered me. Since having him around dust has been crazy. These little birds are like perpetual dust balls waiting to explode after a good preen. I started having allergy issues more often and I figured it was the bird. My house would be filled with dust feathers. Ever since getting this filter it’s been amazing. My apt still dusts but not as often and I definitely feel the air cleaner. It’s also good for the little bird as their little lungs don’t do well in stale air.
Before I owned my bird I used to keep my balcony door open whenever the weather was nice but I can’t do that anymore. He doesn’t have his wings clipped and he hangs outside of his cage free to fly inside the apt all day. This filter is a great alternative to opening the door for fresh air. Now I do keep the door open at night when he’s inside his cage sleeping so I can still get some fresh air from time to time.
We’ve had this about 10 days now, and so far it is working wonderfully. It’s much quieter and works better than the older filter we had from another company, which this one replaced. I like how easy the filter is to get to, which will make it extremely easy to change when the time comes.
