This celebrated kettle with the bird that sings when the water has boiled was a great success when it was introduced in 1985, and for Alessi it represented a meeting of great design and mass production methods, a combination that Michael Graves worked hard to achieve, applying his personal visual code which fused influences from Art Deco to Pop Art and even the language of cartoons.

The Designer
Michael Graves
Born in Indianapolis, he teaches architecture in Princeton since 1962. His architectural works include the Portland Building and the Humana Building, the extension of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Newark Museum. He created the best-selling 9093 kettle for Alessi. Michael Graves died in 2015.
The company
Founded in 1921 as a ‘Workshop for the processing of brass and nickel silver sheet metal, with foundry’, Alessi has always stood out for the high quality of its products.
In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading “Factories of Italian design’, capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types.
Open to change and international development, Alessi at the same time has a strong bond with the traditions and cultural background of its area and continues to be synonymous with handcrafted objects produced with the help of machines.
Alessigraphy: the geography of Alessi production
Since the Company’s foundation in 1921 the majority of Alessi products have been manufactured through the cold working of metals, a tradition that is kept alive today by the skilled workers at the Crusinallo plant in Omegna.
Over time, Alessi also began to work with many other materials, such as porcelain, glass, wood, and plastic… A specific production method was developed for each one. Even when production takes place outside the Crusinallo plant, Alessi’s guidelines grant the company’s original production quality standards, continuing to reconcile industrial technological complexity with an artisanal eye for detail.
The objects produced from the different materials are manufactured in various production plants across the world. They remain original Alessi objects in that they are conceived with the same design excellence and produced with the same attention to quality that sets the company’s products apart.

Very attractive & stylish. I was startled by just how quickly this boiled the water for a full pot of tea. About 90s on full power. It replaced a Bosch kettle which was much noisier and slower and less efficient.
I would guess that use with the induction hob is as good as it can get. There is no heat damage to the finish of the kettle and it uses less than 0.1kW power (my hob tells me this).

Bought this for our campervan. Slightly over the top for camping but it is beautiful
slightly tricky to get the lid off to fill with water, otherwise works as you would expect and most importantly for a small open kitchen, its gorgeous and makes me happy!

This kettle just looks beautiful, a work of art. The whistle is not the loudest but it does whistle and the whistle is decent imo. I don’t think you can get a nicer stovetop kettle than this

Ich bin wahnsinnig enttuscht. Die Vogelflte passt berhaupt nicht. Auerdem sieht sie sehr minderwertig aus. Diesen kostspieligen Kessel habe ich mir wirklich anders vorgestellt. Geht leider zurck……
Der zweite Kessel ist toll! Hat mir doch keine Ruhe gelassen 🙂 Die Tlle vom Vorgnger war vllig verbogen, das hatte ich erst spter gesehen. Jetzt ist alles gut! Hoffentlich muss ich den blankpolierten Kessel nun nicht stndig putzen – mein alter Kessel war mattiert und dadurch wesentlich pflegeleichter…….

Rispetto alla versione precedente (che durata pi di 30 anni!) mi sembra che il materiale sia pi leggero ma, soero, altrettanto duraturo.

Besides being a terric design with the offset handle this pot boils water very quickly.
like thi kettle because the bottomi is wide and the flame at its hightest doesnt come over the edges and keeps all the heat on the bottom where it should be ,there fore it heats up very quickly and keeps the mirror shine protected. great design and very good looking

I agree with an other owner who posted online that the whistle is not working properly.
Had an earlier model from Alessi’s and once the water boiled one could hear the whistle very easy in an other room with closed door. Now it hardly whistles unless one stands right next to the stove and it is more like a hissing
Very disappointing having known the previous quality of this Kettle.
Sometimes when I walk into my kitchen I just gaze in delight at my beautiful new kettle! Design is fantastic but it is practical too: pours great and the handle & whistle don’t get hot. Ok it is expensive for a kettle but you are paying for outstanding design and quality in spades!

Brought a new induction cooker got a proper kettle for the hob. Works brilliantly so much better than a electric kettle, quicker at boiling and can’t go wrong. Looks good, whistle works, remember to remove before pouring the water.
Love the design use it on an induction hob. Find the whistle hard to remove , because of this I feel kettle more about design than practicality.

Ho tutto il set a casa e ho ripreso il bollitore per mia mamma perch si era usurato , alessi una garanzia e questo bollitore rimane sempre attuale. L’unica cosa ho notato che il prezzo rimane sempre abbastanza alto, ma ne vale. Lo consiglio.
