Took a while to get it running, and started working out of the blue. My advice is to let it warm up a bit in the house after delivery, fit the batteries, and wait a few minutes. Then follow the instructions and it should light up. I got mine 2 months ago and the batteries still work.
Note: It fell from the windowsill as I was trying to key in the password, and the key broke as the door hit the floor. Luckily, there’s a spare. Also, the safe box came out unscathed. But do be careful. It’s very heavy. And the base is quite slippery.
I lost the keys for a very similar safe (hence I went for the closest replacement I could find and this is almost identical apart from the fitting holes and the colour as far as I can see). The battery pack was flat so the electronic code was no good so the ONLY way in we could use was to cut the top off with an angle grinder. Even though it was in OUR house, with OUR consent and the neighbours aware what was coming – it took ages with a 4 1/2″ cutting disk and an 800w grinder ! We literally cut the lid off like a tin can. I don’t think any their would have the time or be able to cut the top off without anyone noticing within 20 seconds (hence I went for the same safe again !)

One thing I didn’t like the display is dark and very hard to see
Very good material and easy to set up. Perfect for an office.
came fast good service easy to use.first rate could not be any better.thank you.
I bought the ‘Magictec motion sensor lights’ for the inside of my safe, as someone had suggested in the comments, and it makes me love my little safe even more.
There is a removable shelf inside and a section of felt on the bottom to cover the holes you can use if you decide to mount the safe in a wall.
HEADS UP!
For anyone who had trouble figuring out how to insert the batteries all you need to do is SLIDE the batteries through the slot until they are lined up with each other, on each row like this: BatteryBattery
BatteryBattery
*Remember to SLIDE them through the slot.*
You CANNOT just pop them in like you would on a remote or toy car.
I really struggled with putting the batteries in for a while because the ones recommended didn’t seem to fit or look like the right size because I have never had to slide the batteries in something before because they usually have their own individual places to insert them. So I was flipping back and forth between the instruction manual and the Amazon customer service chat until I figured it out. It would have been nice if they had stated the exact method of inserting them but I got through it!
As for the password set up it was cake compared to the batteries . When you first set everything up you can set the MAIN PASSWORD & THE MASTER PASSCODE at once. The first password is the one you use every time you open the safe. The Master passcode is what you use in case you forget the first one. The over ride keys are for you to use if you just forget everything!! Another thing I want to mention is that the buttons do make a loud beep for every button you press and three loud beeps for when it is opened (That could be worked on).
So, never fear your safe has a back up for everything. Even more so if you get the Asurion warranty on it.
This thing is great and I love it although when I opened the door to my safe it had some weird red stuff on the door even though it was packaged like it had never been used. But I just took a clorox wipe to it and it’s as good as new.
This is a great investment for people who don’t want to put their spare money in the bank and for those who don’t want to just have it lying around in the open. My new safe definitely makes me feel more secure from people with wandering hands .
Bought it to keep my aging parents with dementia from misplacing important stuff like documents and meds. And it works great for that. We lock the important stuff in it so they can’t get to it. But this is not something I’d use as a high security safe. It’s pretty light. You can bolt it to wall but a pro could probably rip it out and carry it away easily. My home safe is same size and may heavier and more secure. This is also not fire or water resistant. But for the price its excellent for our needs. Something with all the features above would cost 3-4 times the price.
I would suggest you do bolt it to a floor if you are worried about break ins or have older children that might have less than perfect friends and want it more secure but remember, this is not a professional high grade safe to keep your gold, jewellery and critical papers in to keep them safe from break ins, fire, flood etc. If you want that you will have to spend a lot more than this.
PS: it’s shipped without any batteries. So please buy a few when you order them.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
I have had the AmazonBasics Security Safe for quite a few weeks now. When I first received it, I said to myself: “What have I done?” – It’s so bulky (External Dimensions L * B * H 43 * 37 * 23cm) quite heavy (10.9kg). [Please NOTE you need 4 * AA Batteries in order to be able to set a PIN Code for the Safe! – more about that later]
I found it QUITE DIFFICULT to pull off the GREY plastic covering that conceals the hole you put the Override Key into. I also found it quite difficult to UNDERSTAND & therefore set up the PASSCODE for the Safe. Though I did work it out in the end!
MORE DETAILED REVIEW
The AmazonBasics Box comes with 2* Override/Emergency Keys to open the Safe. Inside the safe, which is (L * B * H 42.7 * 30.8 * 22.7cm are a Detailed Instruction Booklet, a metal divider/separator to enable one to have TWO SEPARATE COMPARTMENTS inside the Safe, a non-slip synthetic covering [so that items put in the safe don’t slide about], as well as Bolts with washers to affix the Safe either to a wall or to the ground. Personally, I’ve just been keeping keeping the Safe under our bed, as the aim is to USE IT to keep medicines, cash and children’s bond certificates OUT OF THE REACH of our inquisitive children!
You need to use ONE of the Override Keys provided to OPEN the AmazonBasics SAFE for the first time.
a) But First you NEED to access the Override Keyhole, which is next to the Big Knob You Turn To Open the Safe – It is covered with a GREY Triangular-Shaped Plastic that has a half-crescent shaped bottom – Basically it’s like the top end of a space capsule!
b) I was quite concerned about breaking it, and so I eased off the GREY cover bit by bit USING a coin, as recommended in the Instruction Booklet.
c) I then inserted the Emergency Key into the Keyhole, turning it clockwise and AFTER THAT, I turned the Knob of the Safe Clockwise to open the door to the Safe.
d) Inside the Safe were the Bolts and Screws NEEDED to fasten or bolt down the Safe SECURELY to a Wall (Make Sure You have someone assisting you as the 28 Litre Safe is Quite HEAVY at 10.8kg) or to A FLAT LEVEL GROUND SURFACE). There were also the Instruction Booklet (written in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese & one other language I did not recognise), as well as as partition divider for the Safe (So you can have items on two levels) and a non-slip synthetic covering for the bottom of the safe, so your items don’t slide around in the Safe.
e) The Instructions manual was OUT OF DATE with respect to WHERE the Battery Compartment is LOCATED – It is actually LOCATED at the VERY BOTTOM OF THE INSIDE OF THE SAFE DOOR RATHER THAN TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE INSIDE OF THE SAFE DOOR (Please see my Pics)
f) You then Slide Open the Battery Compartment by GENTLY applying pressure to the Battery Compartment Cover and SLIDING IT TO THE RIGHT ( See my Pics), and slide in 4 * AA BATTERIES.
g) As this AmazonBasics Safe is MEANT to be a SECURE ITEM to protect some of your valuables, I do NOT FEEL able to describe in depth HOW TO RESET the Passcode for the Safe. SUFFICE TO SAY there are SUFFICIENTLY DETAILED DIAGRAMS & INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOOKLET that comes with the Safe that explains the whole process.
h) I can safely say though that you need to RESET THE DEFAULT PASSCODE THAT COMES WITH THE SAFE PRIOR TO SETTING A PASSCODE of between 3 and 8 digits.
i) It is STRONGLY ADVISED that you test Out the need passcode with the SAFE DOOR OPEN Prior to closing & locking the Safe Door
j) And of course ENSURE you have the EMERGENCY OVERRIDE KEYS somewhere SAFE, as the Safe Door will NOT open with a PASSCODE WHEN the batteries put in the Safe’s Battery Compartment are low or no longer work
AND TWO MORE COMMENTS:
1. When setting the Passcode for the Safe, You MAY have to do it a few times before the NEW PASSCODE IS ACCEPTED. You will then be GREETED with a “GREEN UNLOCK ICON” on the Screen of the SAFE (See Pics)
2. ONCE the passcode has been set IF you enter it wrong 3 Consecutive times, it will lock you out for 30seconds etc [Sorry I cannot say more as this is PART OF THE SECURITY FEATURE OF THE SAFE!].
Thanks for reading and I HOPE YOU’VE FOUND MY REVIEW HELPFUL.

Thanks for reading and I HOPE YOU’VE FOUND MY REVIEW HELPFUL.
As I noted in my video, the lock sometimes requires some force to ensure that the lock mechanism engages. If you unlock it, and try too gently to lock it again, it doesn’t always latch. It’s probably only about 40% of the time that it doesn’t latch, and only when you really gently turn the lock, but a good hard turn will make sure it latches.
Second, with regards to water resistance, there are four holes for bolts in the back, and four similar holes for bolts in the bottom. This is for you to secure it (with the included bolts) to make sure someone can’t walk away with your safe to open it elsewhere. However, these holes are more than large enough to fill half the safe with water. Don’t count on it being safe in a flood. It doesn’t advertise as being water-resistant, and this is why.
With regards to fire resistance (which again is not advertised), I saw another review from someone with a nearly-completely-melted keypad and a fire-singed safe, where he was still able to open it. With it being solid steel, this is possible if the keypad remains intact, and worst-case you use your key (if you can find it after the fire). The steel construction means you’re not going to lose your gold jewelry. However, with the aforementioned holes, if you had paper near them, I suspect it could possibly go up. The holes might just BARELY be big enough to let in enough oxygen to keep a fire burning inside. It wouldn’t hurt to add a little fire-resistant padding on the inside of the holes.
Finally, the lock/keys. I saw a review that showed someone (supposedly) opening the safe with a ballpoint pen. Check out my pictures of the key. There are two different keying elements to these keys: the two ridges along the shaft, as well as the notches in the side at the front. There’s also a shape inside the key that’s used to turn the lock, as well as a specifically shaped 7- or 8-sided frontpiece that fits into a matching receptacle inside the lock. I’m not a lockpicker, but I suspect your normal picking set wouldn’t help you here.
Side note: the user manual mentioned that the metal part of the keys has something in it that is “known to the state of California to cause cancer.” I suspect they’re made partially out of lead. Just something to be aware of.
Overall I’m happy with my purchase. It’d be five stars if the lock always engaged.
Just what I was looking for, not too big but amazingly spacious; room for all your personal papers, and whatever else. Suitable for wall mount or floor standing, comes with two keys in case you forget your combo. Easy to set up too! If I can do it anyone ca

Brilliant safe it is bigger than I thought, very easy keypad operation. I would recommend to a friend.
I love this safe. It is large, easy to use (I have never used a safe before but the instructions were very straight forward), and fits a lot.
This small safe is easy to use and useful for storing small items, A4 size documents are not easy to get in or get out if they do not bend easily or need to be kept straight. There is a shelf near to the top. Installation is fairly straight forward for someone who is able to use a drill / has basic DIY skills. The owner needs to be able to follow the instructions for setting the pass code which is straight forward.

Great value highly recommended item I would recommend finding area to place this before fitting but every home should have one !!!
Pros:
1. Terrific quality product
2. Easy to use
3. Safe as hell if installed properly
4. When competition is selling above 5k rs for a similar product this product stands out head and shoulders above competition product
Cons:
None actually. But to nitpick if you are used to hotel room’s auto-open function, it will take a few days to get over the manual latch turn on this unit. After few months this way will feel normal
I actually liked the 0.5 cubic safe so much I went and bought the full cubic foot one. This safe is not high technology and there are plenty of YouTube videos about various ways to crack it, but James Bond is also likely not to rob my house, so I’m not that concerned. I bought it so I would have a place to store important papers & narcotic medicines that I don’t want my kids or anyone else’s kids to easily get into. It does that perfectly .
This is a good Safe and well made for the price.
I use my Safe to lock up tablets and to keep an extra set of Car keys in.
Sturdy, well made and requires AA Batteries
Made out of thin metal( if you shoot at it, even 9mm will go right through the whole thing easily… And I don’t think it will withstand bashing with a hummer either due to thin metal case AND the locking mechanism that is very basic.
Again, this is a basic safe. If you want to keep your diamonds treasure, it is NOT what you want. I can probably open it with a hummer under 1 hour guaranteed.
But I knew that since all of these cheap safes are pretty similar. If you want a heavy duty safe, those are far more expensive. A good 1.2cu will be 3X the cost++
4 stars because I bought a used one, directly from amazon and the key cover pins that hold it in place are damaged. They are made out of light plastic and show a sign of snapping off, which will eventually happen so I just have to make sure I don’t use the keys…
Another minus is that you do NOT see the numbers on the screen. You only see the lock ON lock OFF sign on the screen. So enter the numbers carefully the first time…
The safe is cheaper than anything else so for the price, it’s definitely 4/5
Product was undamaged so thanks for the secure transport.
Contents: Box contains safe, 2 keys, 4 nut and bolts and one manual. (It does not contain 4 batteries)
Ease of use: Manual contains steps to set up the safe electronically.
Material and space: material is strong enough and powdered coated. It is spacious inside with a removable compartment.
Hopefully it will work as desired.
Thanks amazon for the deal
I did secure to wall. LOL.
Very happy with purchase. Would have given 5 stars if thicker metals/tighter seal.
Saludos
Nice safe we got it to keep stuff safe, passports, some cash and the crown jewals when the house is empty, it would deter your average low life burglar easy to fit being small you have to secure it to a wall or floor as it could be carried away
Excellent quality for the price. Easy to fit, set up and operate
Suits our purpose for its price. Sturdy enough. Easy to set up with codes, and emergency key supplied.
Purchased one of these for our son and after it arrived I decided to order one for myself as I was very impressed with the amount that can be fitted into it.
Excelle
Good size . Setting up confusing- strange to prize off part of the front silver bit in order to open i
I live in an apartment and of course the manager has the keys to my place. Now I feel secure if he comes in when I am not home, in case he needed to fix something and I was at work.
Fast to get into it… I use it all the time. No more money going missing… and I got a locking door knob for my bedroom as another safety precaution.
Get one… it’s just as good as the others in my opinion.
excellant safe. this replaces a broken one. plenty of room inside
It is an excellent item and I specially liked the shelf.
This safe is a really good size for storing jewellery and documents. It is quite sturdy and definitely meets my requirements.
Just what a needed – documents, keys etc in a safe central place.
Great little safe for keeping valuables in. Well made and works well
I recommend bolting your safe down in an area convenient to open the safe door but not to get at any of the sides of the safe, for maximum protection. I found it super simple to set the code I wanted into it. My 1.2cu ft safe is large, but but won’t fit my laptop. How much it can store depends on what you’re putting inside. A few things i’m storing in mine for example: I have a few bundles of cash, my checkbooks, iPad, passport, Nikon DSLR, camera lenses, Gopro, prescriptions, a few pieces of jewellery, and some personal items. And i’m a good half full.
Nice solid unit, comes with quality fixings. Easy to use and good value
Good quality and size, but not overly too big, ideal for important documents, jewellery etc. Would recommend.
Perfect, just what I needed and does exactly what it says it does.
Quite lightweight so would be easy to lift and remove from a house. Has bolts to fix to solid surface. Decent value
I have no complaints with the safe itself. Feels secure, works well, looks good. My only complaint is the wall anchors. Four expansion bolts are included, with little explanation on how to install them properly. Even with the correct tools, it is difficult to make a good job of it. And with expansion bolts, you only get one shot. If you mess one up, too bad; you cannot just undo it and try again.
Good Quality, easy to install and very easy to use.
Does exactly what it should, easy to fix and easy to operate. Excellent value for money.
Does the job well, keeps nosey family members from your stuff!
Keeps my mother (who has dementia) away from her pills!
i ordered it by mistake but it is nice anyway lol
Very pleased with safe as it is a good size and quality is very good value for the money. Only disappointment and slight annoyance was that only two securing bolts provided when instructions indicate that four bolts should have been included.
as described, ideal for storing passports, bank books/cards etc rather than popping them in a ‘safeplace’ and forgetting where that was 🙂
I just needed a small safe to keep some important documents and identification.
This was perfect. Easy to use and fits nicely in my wardrobe.
Very good buy. Amazon does amazing stuff lol
Much better than I thought and easy instructions. Be warned quite heavy
General:
I purchased the safe from Amazon Warehouse Deals (the item was backordered and I wanted to get something in place before traveling). I couldn’t even tell that it had been “refurbished” or “used”. All of the necessary pieces were included-2 keys, instruction manual, 4 anchors and the safe itself.
If you are concerned about the safe not being fire rated, just buy a fire resistant bag and call it good.
Install:
I had zero issues with the installation. I ended up only using two of the drywall anchors that were included. I was able to use 3″ lag bolts into a stud for the other two. Overkill? Probably, but that safe isn’t coming out without the stud attached to it. I read a few reviews of users saying, “the included anchors didn’t fit through the hole of the safe”. That is by design. Simply take the anchor assembly apart, slide the bolt head and washer through the safe and reattach on the other side. Just an FYI, the included anchors are designed to be used in masonry or brick but will work in drywall. If you just plan on mounting it to the wall, go grab a few carriage bolts with some spring toggles and you should be good to go. Mounting to the floor? Get a lag bolt with a good “bite” to it. Sink those suckers in and you are ready to go.
Usage:
Keypad was easy to program and the backup keys worked great. Things that beep drive me nuts so I went ahead and got rid of the pcb mounted speaker immediately. Simply unscrew the two phillips head screws, disconnect power (I might as well tell people to play it safe) and pull the the PCB assembly. You have a couple options here.
1. Poke a hole through the speaker (long cylindrical piece making the obnoxious sound).
2. Put a glue or epoxy into the speaker.
3. Put a small piece of duct tape or electrical tape covering the hole (if you want to have the option of removing it at some point).
4. Use a soldering iron and desolder the connection points (I am a bit of a perfectionist and like things to have a clean appearance).
5. Take a pair of pliers and rip the darn thing off.
I have had zero troubles with the safe of the operation of the safe so far.
Pros:
*Easy to install.
*Secures to wall very securely.
*Piece of mind living in an apartment that valuables can’t just get swiped.
*Good size, which makes this easy to stash away in a closet or inconspicuous location.
*The two shelf spaces. It makes organizing the safe much easier.
*Heck of alot better than my old “safe” that I could open with the end of my fingernail clippers.
Cons:
*Beeper is annoying.
*Beeper is annoying.
*None.
Summary:
You are getting what you pay for here. Sure, it isn’t Fort Knox but it will stop or slow down would be robbers/roommates/junkies/maintenance men with sticky fingers etc. I plan on buying a couple more just because, I am an American, and that’s how we role.
Enjoy!
Only complaint is about the delivery. As we were going away ina few days, I ordered this Amazon product using Amazon Prime, and then the fun started with emails saying it was delayed. I complained and it was cancelled and re-ordered by them with expedited delivery so it would (I was promised) definitely arrive the next day. Not according to the next email I received – it was now going to be delivered two days after the original one should have been! Arrived with the words “Security Safe” emblazoned on the package.
Not the first problem, Prime is turning in to a bit of a joke.
However, once it did arrive it is well made and easy to program. Plenty big enough for valuables, passports etc. Very pleased with it, excellent value for money
Update. I lost my house this past week to a fire. It was a total loss. Somehow this safe made it with 4 handguns in it as well as ammo and various paperwork. It still managed to open USING KEYPAD when the firefighters brought it out!!!! I can’t recommend this safe enough now.
Does what you would want a small safe to do. It’s a bit annoying that it is not quite big enough for A4 papers lying flat, but if you take the shelf out they will stack on their side at the back
All fittings and materials used are excellent and for the first time I have a safe that will keep my small laptop (11.6″) a jewellery box, cash and important documents together in one place.
It comes supplied with four rawlbolts and can be fixed to either a wall or floor using the predrilled holes in the safe.
Two keys come with the safe in case you manage to forget the code you have set on keypad. Easy to follow instructions will make it easy to set up the keypad, you will need four AA batteries, not supplied. There is a removable shelf inside offering more versatility to how you choose to use the safe.
I really don’t know how they can make it for this price.
With this type of safe it is essential to secure it to a solid wall or floor and Amazon provide 4 suitable wall bolts for this purpose. There are 4 pre-drilled holes in the base and 4 in the rear panel so the job is relatively straightforward.
The electronic lock needs 4 AA batteries (not included) to function and once these are inserted it is an easy task to program the key pad.The code can be from 3 – 8 digits.2 emergency keys are included to open the safe the first time and to provide back up in case of key pad failure. There is a low battery warning light on the key pad panel so battery failure should not be a problem.
The safe has a removable, non adjustable metal shelf and a thin felt carpet on the floor.A4 documents fit easily on the floor of the safe but the depth of the lock housing means that A4 documents on the shelf will be slightly folded when closing the door.
The small Amazon basics safe is around 14 cubic litres which is great for small items and cash etc. The safe has 2 access keys and a digital keypad for entry. It also has 4 screw mounts on the back and bottom to secure it safely to a floor or base of something or wall etc.
The safe feels quite secure, I think with most safes these size, it wouldn’t take too long to get into it with force but it wouldn’t be too easy either.
Overall I’m happy with it and I like the idea of it been hidden and safely storing my belongings..
Does the job perfectly, but a little complicated to set up if I’m being picky.
Easy to fit and will satisfy my insurers for safe place to keep my Rolex and cash. Easy to operate too
Great price.
Ideal for keeping small valuables in or a petty cash type box.
Shelf can be removed for larger items.
Great little safe. Well worth the money. Does what it says it does.
Great safe for the price bought this for our 84 year old friend easy to set up and use highly recommend.
it can be floor or shelf mounted and the bolts for securing it are provided.
it’s not huge, but for keeping passports credit cards and jewellery in it’s perfect, and represents great value for money.
I find that all of the Amazon Basics range are fit for purpose and good value, i’d say this is way above the standard you would expect for the price.
Easy to install and set up, seems to be secure, but only time will tell if the unit suffers an attack.
Really good easy to use very pleased with it. Like the fact I can put my own code i
Good size works very with the locking arrived sooner than I thought great for me to save money happy with this buy
