When my old Babyliss gas tongs died this time, as usual without warning, I decided that enough was enough. The ignition is what dies, and there appears to be no way to get in to attempt a repair. I have had (and binned) umpteen of them over the years. Add to that the fact that you can’t always find the gas refills, which are expensive, and cannot be carried in hand luggage if you take them on a plane. I also hated their boring utilitarian appearance and cheap feel. I have tried other electric rechargeable tongs but found them very underpowered and unreliable. So, when I went onto Amazon assuming I would just have to fork out for another pair of Babyliss gas tongs, I was very surprised to see this model. The reviews were good and I got them on offer, so I decided that since Babyliss are usually pretty reliable they was worth a try. I was amazed how gorgeous these tongs are. They come in a beautiful case with a heat mat and gloves. The heat mat can be wound around the barrel if you need to put them away still warm. The tongs are substantial and the controls feel very slick. They heat up very quickly and give a lot of heat. They curl well, with no burn smell. I like the magnetic connection for the charger cable, and a usb connector makes it universally usable. With a li-ion battery you can keep it topped up between uses to avoid running out of charge. I cannot be sure about battery life, only time will tell.
Only two niggles. Firstly, coming from the tiny gas tongs, I would have preferred the option of a more compact model. Once in their case the tongs are definitely far less easy to chuck into a bag. The case is 36 cm long, by 8cm wide and 6cm deep. (14″ x 3″ x 3″ approx). The second thing I found was that they need a longer cool tip. I hate wearing a slippy glove and so struggle not to burn my fingertips. For these two reasons I feel that they only earn 4 stars, but the tongs are a serious upgrade from the old gas model. I hope they will offer a compact version in future.
I loved this. Really convenient and does great curls that last. And great to take on holiday. But My hair its very thick and took me 40 minutes to do. It’s only good for about 30 mins before recharging. I will get quicker but in the meantime i need to keep my old corded ones too. Would still buy them again as the work grea
I love these cordless tongs, they are perfect to take to all-day events such as weddings as my hair never stays put for more than a few hours. I just wish the charge lasted longer than 30-40 minutes because as soon as I get them out in the ladies room, I have at least 5 people wanting to use them leaving me without charge. A really good styler though.
Good to recharge simple to take away ,pleased with results I go
It is a pretty good styler and I love that it’s cordless. It has a good case which you can keep it in. I jusdt don’t like the sound it gives but I guess you need some feedback so that is just a minor thing. – to be fair probably it just bothers me because I have a child and sometimes when she sleeps I would want to do my hair but I cannot because of the sound. But it’s a pretty brilliant curling tong an d I really like it. The heat control is pretty good. The battery is big enough for me but I guess if you have long thick hair you might be not enough for you, I mean you need to charge ofte
This is the first time I’ve ever used curlijg tongs and these are very good for a novice who hasn’t used them before!
Pros: the fact that they are cordless is brilliant. There’s no faffing around and getting tangled in a wire.
They have 3 heat settings. Simply press the on button for about 5 seconds to turn on and then press again for 2 seconds to change the heat.
Wrap your hair around the wand and leave for about 8 seconds then release.
I got more beachy waves than curls but that suits me fine!
The cord to charge connects by magnet so its very easy to use.
Cons: it take 3 hours for 40 mins use or 5 hours for a full charge. If you want to curl your hair regularly then this might be a bit annoying.
You can’t use the tongs whilst its charging. So you will have to wait a few hours before you can style your hair.
The wand is a lot shorter than the battery handle. My hair is short so it’s not a problem for me but I’m not sure if this would be for long hair?
Babyliss is a well known brand and produce good products so for a price point of 120 (at time of review) its high but worth it.
