Just plugged it into windows ten and it set up with no help from me. Love it.
Considering the price, the build quality is reasonably good. The sound quality actually is great, my SM58 sounds very clean and full via this interface
When I read the description I expected zero latency the direct monitoring sounds a bit off in cubase 11 pro it runs at around 0.13ms latency which is OK but it’s not zero.
Its a ok at best option does the job easy enough but note fir the correct asio driver to run smoothly it requires you to download the driver first which us easy enough.
I am new to recording music or guitars on a computer and did a lot of research before buying. The specifications are very similar to other entry level products of this type. I won’t name the competitors, there are many reviews of this type of equipment on the internet, check for yourself. I bought this because it is significantly cheaper than similar products. It is very easy to set up and all I can say is that, using it to play and record several types of electric guitar, telecaster, Les Paul types and electric accoustic it worked very well. Low noise levels, good clean output, no latency as far as I could hear. I am no expert but for someone new to doing this, it does everything I need so far. The only downside, if it is one, is that it only comes with one DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software package and no addons such as different guitar amps or pedal effects, but they can be downloaded. The software it comes with is Tracktion Waveform 11, which is the latest version. It is fine for my use but other more experienced users may need more. I don’t think anyone can go too far wrong by buying this at this price.
First interface I’ve ever owned, was pleasantly surprised by its sound quality and build for it’s cheap price point. Midas preamps sound great and had no issues with latency. Pairing this with another output device however isn’t straightforward or even workable. The signal seems to weaken when outputted externally to a separate DAC or amp. The reason I wanted to use an external output source was due to the headphone amp not being able to drive most headphones I own. A pair of M40x’s at were fine at 35ohms but with the units impedance of 10ohms, the clarity in the low end was lacking. Theoretically 80ohm and above headphones should produce a clear representation in the frequency range but unfortunately the headphone amp lacks the drive to push even my 80ohm DT770’s to reasonable monitoring levels. My 70ohm HD-25’s seemed to be the only good pairing but even then, anything above 2 o’clock on volume level, the headphone output clips and distorts. This issue was universal across all my headphones. In all fairness, this seemed reasonable considering this is USB bus powered and for the price of the unit it’s not surprising. A great beginner interface if you’re guitar modelling or tracking with a pair of M50x’s. Sub harmonic instruments may require 50-70ohm closed backs but even then I’m not sure if the unit can dig deep enough for this purpose. Not tested with studio monitors so I can’t comment.
So I’m more of a hobbyist in the audio realm but wanted something to get that fine control and higher quality of XLR microphones without breaking the bank. The sound quality out of this thing is fantastic, going blow for blow with the focusrite equivalent for almost a 1/3rd of the price. Is it perfect? No, there’s a few little annoyance. The direct monitor is a little disappointing that it splits the 2 inputs into the Left and Right channels rather than giving a mono output but it’s a minor quibble when you get such a noise less set of preamps that provide a pretty decent amount of gain. Using it with a behringer xm8500 and it provides plenty of gain for that dynamic mic with very little hiss even at such high Gain. Highly recommended for any beginner dipping their toes into more Prosumer level audio!
Doesn’t struggle to power a Shure sm57 with a fethead, low noise floor; it’s aigh
Decent price, flexible yet uncomplicated. My DAW recognised both channels for recording, straight thru monitoring useful
A good quality soundcard..but I’ve had problems with drivers…none came with Behringer…had problem to find any on the net. When I did find some…everytime I re booted…had to put drivers in again. WIN7 and 10.
it’s decent and does the job, it is a budget device don’t expect bells and whistles but it’s just as good as others that are 3 times the price with a cooler “brand”
I had bought a cheap usb mixer from China which was totally useless and got sent back. This cost twice as much but the quality is so much higher it’s silly. Using it on an average PC using Reaper … Really low latency and crystal clear recording. Very happy with it.
I would really recommend for every guitarist to read my review.
I bought the device for simply making recordings with various VST plugins in Studio One. The biggest drawbacks of the Behringer instrument are:
– very loud pops and cranks when pc is turned on ad speakers are already powered
– same loud artifacts when the PC is shut down
– no possibility to play two sound sources simultaneously, meaning that I could not play a song in Guitar Pro and use my DAW (the UMC202 could be released in the background, though, but then no sound from the VST plugin…) I also tried ASIO4all without success
I have only a notebook (Gigabyte Aero 15xv8) so I was prepared to have some trouble with latency. Anything under 256 sample buffer resulted in frequent pops and cranks that was partly because my notebook BIOS (hint: latencymon ACPI.sys), but actually these pops were much less noticeable with the Scarlett Solo 3rd. As mentioned above I have tried to use ASIO4All instead of the Behringer driver, my impression was that I could use lower buffer size, so it is worth trying out if you happen to have latency issues. In the end I decided to keep the Scarlett, mostly because I can finally use Guitar Pro and my DAW together.
I had a 204HD for years, and eventually upgraded to the Behringer 1820. For my desk setup, the big unit is incredible. BUT, as I’m headed off to uni in a few months, I need portable versions of everything, which is where this guy comes in. It sounds exactly the same as the big unit, has almost all of the same functionality, and manages to run off USB power alone, with acceptable latency. Hope to use this for many years to come.
I bought it mainly to use it as external audio card, for my surface 4 with m3 processor, to play my Casio privia with VSTs and zero latency.
Previously, I bought a behringer UCA202. It was working fine, but it was disconnecting randomly here and there, or producing cracking and popping sounds.
This one is perfect. The audible latency is almost 0, it never get disconnected form the surface (even without using a powered usb hub).
I can also use it with Ableton and record the piano performance (still just with the little surface), although I didn’t tested heavy scenarios with many VST all together.
Overall, super satisfied
I was replacing an old M-Audio Delta 44 that had low latency when using VST Instruments, this achieved the same latency quality and good sound quality with a single usb cable, nice tidy box only downside for miss is the loud click when turning on the pc being connected to sound monitors
** BE CAREFUL**
I developed tinnitus using this. It is something I will live with for the rest of my life. If you don’t know how to use it properly. Don’t buy an amplifier, very very dangerous.
I did some research and read reviews online before choosing this over other brands in similar price range and I think this is the best all-rounder budget 2-input line audio interface.
I use this mainly to listen to music and plug in my guitar and mic for now and just play live. I haven’t tried recording and mixing with any software etc, but I can tell by just listening to music, direct output to monitors, this is very very good level for the price. I think it’s similar quality to a 2-3times more expensive focusrite.
I needed a second audio interface in my set up but didn’t want to spend a huge amount so I did some research. This came up as being a decent option so I gave it a try. I cannot fault this unit. Very similar in build and feel to the more expensive Focusrite I already have. and it works perfectly. Good sound quality. I don’t know what the pre amps are like as I am not using it for recording, just to get sounds out of my laptop into my main mixer. But overall I’m very pleased with it. And a bargain to boot….
Not much I can add to this review that has not already been mentioned. I use it as a sound module on my Windows 10 computer and its great. Works well with my software Cubase, Bitwig, SoundForge and T-Racks. Quality is excellent and it works so can’t ask for anything else.
Great all-round sound and function BUT nowhere does it tell you that channel 1 input will only direct monitor through the left ear and likewise with channel 2, only monitoring through the right ear….. If you want left and right split then great, this will make your dreams come true….
But I want stereo monitoring, channel 1 in both ears and this can’t do that. I’ve returned this and bought the Focusrite Solo which has this function.
Got this to use between my Kemper and MacBook.
It has been surprisingly good quality!
(I’ve had other Behringer products that have been pretty poor quality but this one doesn’t disappoint!
Bought this for use with ableton. Works perfectly and have had no issues so far. If you are in the market for a budget interface this is the one to go for. You have to spend quite a lot more to get anything that gives you any significant advantages.
Behringers other budget offerings are ok but do come with some driver issues which arent an issue with this device. Also the quality of recordings is far superior due to the higher sample rate etc. Plus you get 2x xlr/trs inputs.
All in all perfect for a home studio setup. Only thing I’d like to have would be more flexibility for outputs but this can be easily sorted.
Great bit of kit. Plugged into my MacBookPro and instantly recognised by Reaper and Cubase. Nice and quiet too.
If you’re looking for a good audio interface at a good price, buy one of these.
Used to link Mic and Phones to laptop for on
ine music. Gives very good sound quality both ways definitely improves laptop sound performance.
I have now purchased 5 of these for inserting audio on to web streaming servers, it’s worth buying and using XLR inputs for best results and choosing the frequency and bit rate that’s appropriate, The model up has midi capability but if you don’t need that these work very well indeed. They are sturdy and have all the functions you need. Ideal for stereo but you’ll need to know your way around drivers if you want to bridge a single mono mic.
Simple to use, perfect for the various recordings I have to do for church and excellent sound quality. Would definitely recommend.
I connected this Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD 24 Bit/192 kHz USB Audio Interface In My windows 10 Tested it on Audacity And There was No Hiss No Pops Or Bad Sounds It Is Clear and Just what i Needed for my Vocals In my Studio Thank you Tony From The UK.
Things to keep in mind :
1) Audio drivers may cause issues in Windows 10 . Working well with Asio4all for me .
2) Direct monitoring is stereo , which means while using direct monitor we hear 1st input in left ear and 2nd input in right ear. Use a stereo splitter for hearing 1st or 2nd input in both ears .
Overall nice interface , light and portable . Best for home studio set up .
Was n’t too difficult to install, but needs a bit of tech capability . Suggestion: read the instructions as you install.
The software it comes with audacity is a quality program that is user friendly and easily helps you get on your way to recording and creating the music that you want to how you want.
I needed a second USB audio interface with rather more flexibility than the one I already had. This does all that I require and more. The two mic inputs work well and quietly with more than enough gain for my low sensitivity condenser microphones. Everything seems to be working just fine and no need to load any software*. Works fine with Audacity and Zoom and means I no longer need a mixer for zoom calls.
I am using a Mac, Windows may need drivers but I don’t know.
This product is very easy to use and set up. Very good sound quality.
Depending on your set up and any mains socket being used, power adaptors to your effects even your cables might be causing the noise.
So in my case the hiss was not down to this interface.
No matter what you do with the gains the noise was there all the time, tried on different computers and still the same, so not the PC or this interface.
In the end it was the guitar software being used.
Nothing on line from the people who make the guitar software, and really any search for a fix should be found within less then 10 mins , but nobody.. So will never use the software again.. absolute crap.
In the end they gave an update but unless you have Windows 10 no updates available on any other platform.
Not sure if that update would have cured the problem I much doubt that.
So getting back to Behringer
This Interface is awesome but i cannot vouch for all.
Been put through test after test after test and just about to purchase another for on the road use so that the unit and equipment I am currently using in a studio environment stays in the studio.
(Update) Never needed to buy another as a back up unit.
I tried a Focusrite Interface and hated the thing, but what ever does it for you.
Behringer a fantastic piece of kit for the money.
No messing about with any drivers not like the probs I had with the Focusrite, should work right out the box, but maybe I just had a bad unit which should not reflect on all Focusrite interfaces, It Happens!
I have owned a lot of Behringer equipment in my time and in all honesty have never had a problem with any of it, apart from the PA Speakers I had at one time and totally fried the coils, but that was my own fault.
This interface works perfectly.
Does the job Intended at a reasonable cost.
Update (19.03.2022) Still using the unit, I ended up making a bracket for it to be fitted undershelf, If anyone wishes to know how thats done I may end up sharing a video I produced on the subject.
It works perfectly and have never had any issues with it..
Behringer Excellent equipment and at a fraction of the cost.
Well built and good quality product. Easy to use but you have to know what driver you need to download. Booklet tells you the website to go to but it seemed to be incorrect. So I just googled it. Make sure you download exactly what you need or it will not work correctly
Does all that the Focusrite equivalent does at half the price. What’s not to like?
I’ve got 2 focusrites and 2 behringers and I prefer the behringers. The focusrite 3rd gen is a huge faff with a companion app and keeps going dormant, the 2nd gen is 1 jack I XLR where this behringer is 2 combination jack/xlrs. The 404 is particularly handy but this 202 gets loads of use as an electric guitar input or for online streaming with condenser mics.
Quality edition to my audio book narration at home work, asked around for a decker one in my price range and several sources told me about this one. I’m terrible with electronics and devices and it only took me a few tries to understand how to use it well enough for my work. Worth it, glad I purchased
I bought this after a technician recommended it to me and its been great, the sound quality is brilliant and it does the job
Used for live radio reporting with a laptop and a good quality microphone.
I picked this up due to another piece of equipment malfunctioning right as I’m getting into crunch time on a film – I needed something that wouldn’t break bank and I needed it fast, so this seemed like a great alternative until I finish the job. I’m really impressed! Setting up was as simple as plugging it in and continuing with my work – and for such a low price, I’m seriously impressed with the audio quality, both in and out. Behringer’s saved my ass on this job!
You can easily pay double this price for an audio interface that does exactly the same as this, so the UMC202HD would seem a no brainer?
Certainly I think it is good. I use it solely for audio recording (clip attached) and the quality seems very good. I record in audacity using a dynamic microphone (Behringer XM8500).
I do have to record with the gain set to maximum and I get the feeling that some dynamic microphones would need more pre-amplification (use a Fethead or Cloudlifter). For audio work at my desk the sound level is fine but in an open space you’ll need more boost.
A lot of negative reviews here complain about a lack of Windows 10 drivers. That is no longer an issue. Windows 10 drivers are available on the Behringer website (I am using driver version 4.59 with no issues in Windows 10).
Overall then, a great value audio interface, particularly if you are starting out. However, if you are using dynamic microphones you may need stronger pre-amplification in some circumstances.
By the way, the difference between this – UMC202HD – and the UMC204HD is that the UMC204HD allows midi input and output. The 202HD does not have midi ports.
Does the job so far, low latency with amplitude and guitar rig , no drop outs and sounds grea
Setup took some time as it was not plug and play type in windows 7. After installing the drivers from website, it was detected straight away . Coupled with behringer c1 mic , i have recorded few songs .. The vocals and strings are very clear. The keyboard sound is not clear , but that could be a problem with the keyboard as well.. overall i am satisfied..
Hard to find fault with this unit, primarily because it is, for the money, astonishing.
If you’re considering an ASIO enabled device, this really is a great piece of kit at a fantastic price. Highly recommended.
Really happy about this product so far. It does anything I want and the build quality is perfect.
Small, light but sturdy metal construction. Very easy to use. For the price 50 offers a twin xlr, extremely ow self-noise pre-amp inter5face for podcasting. I used with a dynamic mike with gain to the max and there was virtually no hiss. Many youtube reviews verify the low self-noise of the unit. I wanted to get into podcasting on a low budget and this interface is perfect for that.
This interface works well and sounds great. I’m using it with an iPad with a powered USB hub and the Apple camera connection kit (I tried a third party device but that didn’t work). The inputs have loads of gain to support guitar and bass. My guitar and active bass both give high output so the pad is welcome. I can run this into BIAS FX amp and peddle emulation, into MIDI Guitar (incredible BTW) and Korg Gadgets with no noticeable latency. The output is great into my amp and the headphone out is loud enough to drive high-ish impedance studio headphones. I can’t fault this unit and it’s less than half the price of some!
What I particularly love about this model is that, unlike my last model, this one transmits signal from both inputs at once into programs where it is not expected. For example, I can plug my guitar amplifier directly into input 2 and have my microphone in input 1, meaning that I can both talk and play guitar into VOIP programs like Discord. Very useful and very fun. Highly recommend.
Very happy at this as a budget option. Quality isn’t studio perfect but easily good enough for home recording of line instruments or mics.
Brilliant. Wish I’d had one of these ages ago. Easy to use and excellent quality of recording for at home music production. Highly recommended.
Fantastic bit of kit for an unbelievable price highly recommend
I was impressed with this rather than forking out a lot more for other ones. Downloading the driver is a bit of a long process as the website is not very clear. The dials are good quality and worked a treat with little setting up.
I’ve been using this for months now with GarageBand, for some reason it only records really really quiet recordings that I have to manually increase the volume of in post. Turning up the volume on the interface itself just results in clipping, I’ve tried recording guitar, bass and vocals through multiple leads and the problem is persistent. When using the interface at my Uni (a focusrite scarlet) with GarageBand on the same laptop, these issues don’t exist. This leads me to believe the box is the problem rather than the DAW or any of my equipment.
I was sure until I got it. I had previously had the Komplete Audio 6, but didn’t notice any in sound quality.
It was really easy to set up, now I have two. One in my mobile set up and one for at home.
For the money, you’ll get a good solid workhouse
The first unit turned out to be faulty but was replaced the next day (thanks amazon).
My second unit works perfectly and for the price, I have few complaints.
Very easy to set up and is very easy to use.
Two things…
First of all, my laptop struggles with the 192khz resolution so I’ve found it best to keep it at 48khz.
Secondly, the blurb from behringer states that there’s loads of free software that you can download from their website. This is true but most of it is stuff that you can find elsewhere on the Internet for free.
Those two things aside, this is a great addition to my home studio and the price is very favorable.
– this is the cheapest decent 24 bit 192kHz sampling USB audio device of reputable make.
– there is plenty of help on YouTube for setup and use.
– the basic device is plug and play
Less positive
– drivers and software download from behringer site is not obvious or well documented
– the manual provided is very small print and not easily understood
However most musician users will probably have DAW software and just need a device that works.
Great bit of kit, good quality build, great sounding audio.
Love the size and design of this interface. Dials and switches all have a premium feel. Have this hooked up to an Audio Technica AT2020 and M50X headphones. Cannot fault the sound.
The only hiccup I ran into was getting to the drivers due to the fact that the website was running SOOO slowly. But I would have to assume that is a one off accurance.
Would reccomend to a friend.
Easy to use with little to no installation process, I’ve used it with ease as an input for my Windows pc and my mac
Defiantly consider buying if you have a budget. You cant moan for the price.
The most important thing is It does the job! It was delivered very quickly.
Really easy to use. I went on the Behringer website, downloaded the drivers and then I could choose it as my default audio device.
Sounds great when paired to Adam audio t5vs
Pretty good interface, it has served me well, although there is one problem, it occasionally stutters and can be very annoying other than that, perfec
Works great a cheap alternative for an external soundcard. Easy to use but not compatible with older DAWs as I found out.
Works a treat!
Friend pulled a face because of the brand name but ate his words after it’s performance. Only paid 40.00 for it so can’t moan about the price, only downside is that what wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the literature or in the reviews is the two inputs are not stereo, so input 1 is left channel and input 2 is right channel! Not sure if there is a way around that?
This interface was easy to set up , and remarkably even had drivers available for download for windows XP so i could use an old otherwise defunct netbook to do my audio recording. The audio sound quality of the unit is absolutely spot on, no background noise whatsoever and very nice reproduction.
The unit is built like a tank and ive got confidence in it lasting a good whilst .
Highly recommended.
That’s perhaps not as important as it appears, particularly if you intend to use Linux with Ardour or Rosegarden recording software OR if you are using Windows ProTools First is free to download for home recording
50 dB Gain 71 dB(A) = 3 dB Rauschma
40 dB Gain 70 dB(A) = 4 dB Rauschma
30 dB Gain 66,7dB(A) = 7,6 dB Rauschma
Great piece of kit, solid well made. Would recommend for anybody home recording.
Does the audio thing fine. The fact that the sellers sent me an obviously opened item, that was just a dick move.
Better sounding than I expected. It is not perfect, but sound is what matters with this product, and it is brilliant!
The knobs are a little flimsy, but what do you expect for 50. Integrates very well with Logic. Couldn’t ask much more for the money.

So the price is sweet for a start. Then, to sweeten it, the sound quality for recording is great! All in all, a good piece of kit. Only complaint is sometimes when I close Reaper the sound drivers won’t pick up other sounds from other software. Strange. Although probably a software issue and not with this.
Some how the instant boost in quality offsets the lack of accessories (including USB cable, for what it is worth, I scavenged one from my midi keyboard and will replace that later, it needed a longer cable anyway).
You are paying for a USB powered, 2 in 2 out (2x Jack L and R) +1 Out for Headphones, so consider buying a couple extra cables and adaptors to suit your needs.
Damn thing just blasted my ears off. Plugged in my bass and stuck it on direct monitor, worked no problem, havent even messed with drivers yet (running on Windows 10). Will adjust review if I head over to FL studio and encounter too much trouble, but my bets are on Behringer here.
However, can’t give it a 5 star because of a seemingly pointless decision for the driver to be added to the list of programs that will automatically open upon PC start-up. After I installed the drivers a few of my games (namely League of Legends) had serious frame rate and sound bugs that made them unplayable. Thankfully the manual does say not to use any additional programs that may require the PC sound card while the driver is running, so I knew roughly the source of the problem.
My issue is, THE DRIVER LOADS AUTOMATICALLY when the device is plugged into the usb slot – if the manufacturers know its gonna mess up other programs, why add it to the start-up list?
A very easy problem to fix when you know the cause, just remove it from the list of start-up programs in task manager, but I lost half a day in frustration trying to troubleshoot it. Now I know the issue, i only plug in the UMC when i want to use my guitar, and always unplug it and shut down the driver in task manager before i play games, problem solved.
Setup is also considerably less hassle, there are no firmware issues like with the Focusrite, and the only fiddling I had to do was change bitrate settings in my DAW, other than that this has been great for everything I have used it for.
It might just be a placebo effect but I personally find the preamp of this unit to produce a clearer recording that the Focusrite ever did, add on to the the Pad function and this is a great unit for the money.
The only downside I have found is that the direct monitor feature will only output in mono on the same channel as the input signal – IE single guitar in the left input will only be played back through your left speaker, however I monitor through software 99.9% of the time anyway so this doesn’t bother me.
Hubby is happy although he was having issues with interference on a cable
This was a birthday present for a friend. He is very pleased with the results. This interface is on par with all others in the class.
…………………………..
Originally gave 4 stars but had to give it a 5.
Hasn’t let me down once and I’ve been using heavily while traveling the last few months.
Such a quality little unit. Amazing value
Im using this interface with the Comica XLR lapel microphone and im really happy with the results. Improved my audio quality on my Youtube videos.
It delivers 48V of phantom power required to power almost all xlr mics and has i shared on my video everything that i would need from a Audio Interface.
Captures clean audio and a big improvement over my other audio devices is that there is almost no background noise.
Does exactly what it says, seems durable.. Extremely good price!
What a good value item, no question.
Much impressed and is in use already. Extremely good value for money.
Does what it’s supposed to do and does it well. Only criticism would be it’s awkward to see the record level leds when adjusting the level with the front mounted pots.
EDIT: I have since acquired some decent dynamic mics and monitoring headphones. The unit still works beautifully. Note in monitoring and recording that input 1 is mapped to the left and input 2 is mapped to the right and there is no way on the unit proper to mix them in the monitoring output. I have no problem with this but if this is a deal breaker for you you should consider an interface with the capability.
Solid, professional feel to the kit, sound quality matches the feel of the product. Proper “old fashioned” heavy weight USB connector used (and cable supplied).
Beautiful product! Just what I needed for my home studio.
I’ve had this for around 3 weeks now and find it perfect for home recording. I use it with Audacity (freeware). So far I have only used it on my Windows 10 laptop, but will be trying it on Ubuntu at some point (will update accordingly). It helps if you can set your system up to record at the same bit-rate and sample rate as the UMC, both in the OS sound settings and the DAW (Audacity in my case). There is plenty of advice online. BTW I had to shutdown Audacity and start it up again to get it to recognise the UMC
I was so pleased with the sound quality, I invested in a studio grade condenser mic which works wonderfully
Physically it is well made with a metal case, and quite compact. It comfortably fits on my screen stand below the screen. It comes with a good quality USB cable which powers the device as well as carrying a digital stereo signal to the PC. It also makes a good headphone amplifier for playing back music on the PC!
So far I have used it to record guitar and bouzouki using a standard 1/2-inch jack cable as well as vocals using an XLR-type cable.
Having an instrument setting and PAD built into each channel is very handy, especially for recording my electro-acoustic guitar. The PAD takes the level down a few DBs and stops it from clipping/distorting
As others have observed each recording channel is hard-wired to the left and right stereo channels respectively (if you install the latest firmware). For my purposes this is a minor irritation. The only other (minor) irritation so far is that I can’t seem to be able to completely mute a channel on the UMC. I leave the mic plugged into channel 1 and the guitar lead plugged into channel 2. Even with channel 1 turned all the way down, the mic still picks up the guitar, being an acoustic instrument (albeit faintly). However I simply record in stereo, split the track into 2 mono tracks (a simple operation in Audacity) and delete the spurious mic track.
Overall this is a superb product and just right for my needs. Highly recommended!
Its a neat little box with excellent build quality – certainly not cheap and tacky. Being USB powered it doesn’t require a separate power supply meaning you could use it with a laptop out in the field. Has a pair of phantom powered balanced inputs meaning you can use good quality capacitor mics with it. The gain controls and pad switches mean it can cope with a wide variety of signal levels and its got a built-in headphone amplifier so you can check signal presence and quality before feeding the signal into your computer. Its slightly cheaper than similar products from other makers too.
