Good value for money and did what it is supposed to. Stripped three rooms in a day An off switch would be helpful but no biggie to switch off at plug
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. The reviews online are generally good but in the most part, it is assumed that the industrial grade ones used by decorators are superior, and these DIY steamers are rubbish. Well, if they are, I couldn’t tell, stripped a sizeable lounge of its thick anaglypta wall paper in a day (2 people) with genuine ease, steam was penetrating the paper quickly without getting the room well and steamy (though I would have a door or window open to outside). My only gripe is there’s no off switch, the best you can do is either wait for it to run out of water or turn it off at the wall!
I bought this as my chemical paint stripper didn’t seem to be doing the job. This worked brilliantly. Very easy to use. I didn’t have a lot of layers of paint as this wall has only been painted once. It’s a plasterboard + skimmed wall. Held it in place for about 20-30 seconds and used a proper scraper (not a putty knife). Would fully recommend.
Multiple layers of wallpaper. I stripped the top part and that leaves paper part glued to the wall. That come down very effortlessly with the tool. That job would have been very dreadful without the tool….
This helped save me hours getting wallpaper off walls. Robust item – I had a previous one of a different make which only lasted an hour before blowing a fuse. This should last years and full marks to Black and Decker for providing it with a long cable. This is first product in years where i have not had to use an extension lead. 10/10 Well Recormmended!
It was brilliant while it worked. Stripped two bedrooms of horrible woodchip paper very efficiently. Sadly when i started on the third room it was fine for 15 minutes and then just stopped working. Have no idea why. Guess i just got a dodgy one 🙁
Well worth paying the premium for this machine.
Was easy to use and lasted a lot longer then similar products.
4 Layers of paper removed by this inexpensive little gadget. I have arthritis in my hands but this is so light weight and easy to use. I had to remove the first layer with a scraper because it had been painted over and the steam could not penetrate though the 4 layers of paper. Once this was removed it was so easy to get the rest of the layers off. Not a scrap of paper left on the wall. All ready now for new plaster to be applied before tiles are fitted. I would definitely recommend that you buy one of these and it’s there when you need it. Brilliant piece of kit. 10/10 !
Purchased as we are renovating a house. Wallpaper everywhere so needed this to make life easier, even on the ceilings. Yes the hot water will drip when using on the ceiling but if you position it the correct way you won’t get burnt. Easy to use
Made stripping the walls a whole lot easier, would recommend
Very please with the service and great thing is the long leads that helps you to move around the room
Long lasting kettle so fewer fill ups. Good length of cable so you can get around a room mote easily. Excellent length of hose so you can reach up more easily – without it getting twisted round your legs and/or ladder!! Made stripping blown vinyl and some old shiny wallpaper a breeze. Not so good at removing border adhesive (use diluted white vinegar for that!), but that is not really its true purpose. It is easy to use and provides excellent value for money. Once, I am very happy with my choice.
I bought one of these on here a while back (and returned it as I ended up with two due to a miscommunication) and I can’t complain. It does exactly what you need it to and it does it well. It’s light, easy to use and doesn’t get knocked over easily. I’d recommend this over just about any other brand (excluding those intended for commercial and professional use, of course).
So easy to use pour in hot water leave til it steams away you go I leave on wall to 10 seconds sometimes 5 seconds peels off brilliant. We highly recommend this model .Great price and delivery quickly. We have strip all our 6 walls in 2 days .Amazing. pictures to view.
Did good getting an old border off the wall that had been there for many years. Heated up well and safe to use
Good steamer , takes a while to warm up but great once its there . Maybe could do with a smaller attachment for the narrow walls.
For DIY work this is great, heat up takes a bit longer then I expected but once going it’s good.
I have seen reviews of people blowing out plaster, this is due to holding the steamer on the paper for too long or previous poor plastering.
Do not use this if your wall paper has been painted on as the steam will not penetrate the wall paper. The top layer of paper normally comes off if you get a stanly knife etc and Gently cut a line across and put a scraper underneath and push and wiggle the scraper.
Also put the steam handle in a bucket while heating.
Would be nice to have a on and off switch but unfortunately this just turns on once plugged and to turn off unplug.
Overall it saves a lot of time and works well.

It’s been a while since I purchased one of these. My goodness what a difference from the old metals ones.
Great piece of diy.
Can’t believe I’ve never bought one before! Made stripping wallpaper so easy, job was done in minutes rather than hours…fabulous. Quite lightweight to use, very simple set up and away you go. Would definitely recommend this product.
Hi. I’ve had four steam strippers in the past. All cheaper than this one but this is the best so far. I have a large granite house with hi ceilings and 60s wallpaper in layers in each room.
I don’t usually buy B&D because I feel their tools are not of the same quality they once built their name on.
If I’m right then this is the exception. Powerful and totally capable of handling the work at hand. Easy to use it has proved invaluable. Although stripping these layers isn’t easy for any machine I feel this one does it better than most. I’ve compared it with another cheaper make I still have and it does the job better by far.
It does exactly what it said it would do
Does a dream job and very easy to use
It is very light weigh
Really good and easy to use. Did an excellent job on really old wallpaper on old georgean plaste
Very easy to use and light weight and ace at helping taking the stubborn paper off.
Great product. it takes time, but it does lift the layers of pape
Really great product. I bought two of these to help with decorating our new house (which came with decades-old wallpaper!). Fast and with the added bonus of a safety cut-off device so it won’t overheat. Highly recommend!
Very easy to use, takes a few mins to warm up but makes clearing wall paper very easy including some paper that had been on for 50 years!!)
All walls in the house I just moved are wallpapered. I tried wetting the paper with warm water and using wallpaper remover solution in the water. The paper was very stubborn and wouldn’t come out. Eventually the plasterboard was breaking up. Three contractors recommended a steamer. I was hesitant as the reviews were a mixed bag of people saying the tool leaks, that the room is like a sauna, the hose tangling, etc. Oh boy, best decision and investment. If you use the tool as instructed, you don’t have any problem. There’s a few drops coming off but you should have a cloth on the floor anyways.
The paper was coming down a treat, all pieces came off the wall without any effort.
I would highly recommend it BUT you need to take your time preparing the room and follow all safely advices as you are dealing with boiling steam that doesn’t stop coming out of the tool unless you unplug it from The wall. Minimum you need goggles, gloves, a cloth for the floor, a flat bucket to put the hose if you need to put it down. It takes approx 10 min for the water to start steaming. And the 4L capacity gives you like 1hr of non stop steam.
Fine all round, does what you need it to and it’s well made. Make sure you wear a mask because the wallpaper glue and steam mean your breathing in potentially nasty stuff. Pop open a window too
Brilliant piece of kit. Does exactly what it’s supposed to.
Made stripping layers of wall paper much quicker. Only downside is cracks plaster really easily, do not hold it on the recommend time I held it on a few seconds and then moved to another patch. Thankfully we needed to plaster the room anyway but if you weren’t planning to plaster I’d be really really cautious when using.
Fantastic device – made light work of stripping woodchip wallpaper!
Great little stripper, lightweight easy to use quick to heat up and takes the wallpaper off with ease.
So easy to use and made a difficult job of stripping a plastic film top layer much easie
My first ever review on Amazon, this steamer works amazing. Once heated up, it can take off wallpaper and layers of old paint, one tank lasted 2 hours and you can remove a lot in 2 hours. It took me 4 hours in total to do a 3.5 x 3 metres room, 4 walls of wallpaper.
Absolutely love this. I’m Converting a property that was covered in old wallpaper even on the ceilings. The steamer removed the wallpaper with ease. Made the jobs really easy . HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Does the job well and is solidly made. Decent weight to avoid tipping over and hose length is good. Eay to operate and I couldn’t fault it.
Great took paper of so easy really great, so glad aye bought i
Heats up quick and does the job well,Excellent product.
You can believe what it can do i m removing even my wall plaster with is so powerful and very great quality i m so happy and it s safe to use it i was confused first when i read the bad reviews about it but now i can realy say that sometime this reviews just confusing you because the customers don t know how to use it properly it realy easy and safe to use
Always a fan of black & decker products, works perfectly and makes stripping wallpaper a doddle.
Really did transform the experience of removing the abundance of silk-painted woodchip paper some former inhabitant saw fit to slather my home in! Even when it was coming away easily, the paper was leaving glue on the walls and ceiling (yes, they even put woodchip on the ceiling), but it didn’t really occur to me to switch to using the steamer until I hit a patch of paper that didn’t want to come away. Talk about a transformative moment! From quite an exhausting, miserable job, it turned into something really satisfying and fun to do. The layers of silk paint sort of turned to rubber which I peeled away, then a second go got the paper off. All of it came away totally clean, leaving no glue residue to deal with afterwards. Only important thing to point out, even though the clue is in the name, is that this will generate a *lot* of steam! Make sure you have good ventillation, and maybe a dehumidifier if your home is prone to retaining damp.
Made my life of pulling of wallpaper alot easier. Very efficient and made the job alot quicker.
Item arrived on time and and as described. Good quality
I’ve had a few Stipper’s in my time but this is by far best . Easy, compact and not too long until it warms up
Excellent quality and easy to use perfect for what it was bought fo
Easy to use with not a lot of effort needed!
Used it for stripping off paint and two layers of wallpaper and it got through the hole house in just over a day – without it would have taken weeks. Really good produc
This wallpaper steamer is a great tool. It steams well and certainly makes the job a lot easier. Would certainly recommend
Did the job well. I haven’t used a top quality one to compare this to but I was happy with i
Only stripper get to see these days, but it was excellent and easy to use had some artex to strip off the walls and certainly made it a little easier to get off
After struggling to remove very old wallpaper I bought this. Night and day. Job done and stress levels back to normal.
I decided to remove wallpaper myself as the cost for some one else to do it was ridiculous, soon realised how had the job was,so ordered this steamer, with this the job took a third of the time to do the other 3 wall that it did for me to do the 1st one,I bought the Black and Decker one because as I have found you get what you pay for and I thought this was great value for money, would certainly recommend
Wall paper came off so easy.
Hold it for 10 to 1 second to push that steam in. It
I had to prick the Vinyl wall paper before with a scoring tool to get the same result.
The vinyl paper came off in one piece!
No annoy yellow backing paper to remove!
Never attacking wall paper without this ever.
Buy one
After countless painful miserable hours trying to remove wood chip wallpaper I finally bought this. And what a joy it was to take my revenge on the walls in my house. This tool is a must have if your wallpaper is clinging on for dear life. The black and decker model is excellent. Very powerful and great value for money.
Bought this for a refurb on a 2 bed bungalow.
A little tricky at first to get the hang of it (watch out for rogue steam/hot water!) but it makes short work of stripping very old thick wallpaper.
Very pleased and would recommend.
Great light weight and easy to get around. Worked on all wallpapers in my 130yr old house. Would reccomend.
I bought this one as it’s a good make it works well and cuts down on the time spent on the job
I have an old house and let’s just say the previous owners had bad taste when it comes to wallpaper. I had to get through that horrible woodchip wallpaper along with 2 under coats of wallpaper. I never thought a steamer would get it off but this Black and Decker did it no problem! It’s very easy to use and you get an hour of constant graft out of the machine. It’s very easy to use, just simply plug (wait 10 mins for it to warm up) and play.
Comes with a 2 year warranty and a decent enough box so you can put it back in the loft when you’ve done the work you needed to.
I managed to get this in the flash sale for 35 and I can say it was worth every single penny! I don’t have any doubts about it after the performing it did on the dreaded walls in my house.
It was easy to use and got wallpaper that had been painted over off quickly without a scrape
Had no issues with this. Used it for my ceiling which was particularly tricky as the paper was really stuck on.
Very good….Pity that there isn’t an on and off switch on the product can only be controlled from the mains socke
Easy to use, good value, lightweight this steamer has been a good buy for getting off stubborn wall paper !
Black & Decker at their best.
This was a great purchase , just moved into a flat and the previous tenants had put wallpaper on wallpaper. All 4 rooms were stripped bare within 2 days using this machine can be quicker but i had work aswell , would definitely recommend getting 1
Found this does the job ok.One small gripe could do with a second smaller steam plate instead of one large one.
We had purchased other steamers in the past but thus one is better! It straps the paper quickly and efficiently, it took very little time to strip the hallway. The best paper stripper we have had by a long run!
Read many reviews for the best and this one came out #1. They were not wrong. Easy to use, safe, lightweught, convenient and efficient it worked very well.on our 7layers of hell eall. With kver 120yr of decorating we removed all paper, lining, painted paper, more paper…. Glue…. U get the picture. It was a gem worths its money and double.
Don’t normally leave reviews but I had 3 layers of thick wallpaper on my walls nightmare! But this machine made it all slide off with EASE!! All you need is this steamer & a scraper. I did a big massive wall in 1 hour job done. Leave it on each section for 10-20 seconds. The machine holds a lot of water so you don’t have to fill it up hardly. It takes about 5 minutes to heat up & produce steam when you plug it in. It’s a MUST BUY. Absolutely brilliant!!!
Really good I striped 3 layers of wallpaper off the wall in less than an hour. Takes a little time to warm up but once steam starts coming it works really well
Bought this to remove wall tile adhesive after chipping tiles off.
It was excellent. Loosened the old adhesive and enabled me to scrape ifoff easily.
Recommended.
This is great, gets the wallpaper off the wall in no time. Great large water container too and easy to use
easy to use and gives steam quickly.phaps an additional smaller pad would be useful.
Very easy to use, heated up quickly and lasted for ages. Never stripped a wall before and was very surprised how easy this made it. Would def recommend
I used this yesterday to strip about 3 layers of wallpaper that were very firmly stuck in our 1930s house. Having this was an absolute blessing, simply hold on the orange panel, wait 20 seconds then get your wallpaper scraper in. It lifts off big sections with ease. The only downside is that I found it needed refilling 3 times. I was probably stripping (ooh err!) for about 2 hours: it says on the box you’ll get 60 mins continuous use, but I didn’t, and from a video I watched this was reiterated by somebody else. More like 30-40 mins I’d say on a full water tank. It’s still so good I didn’t care! Feels very high quality not like the flimsy unbranded ones you see in DIY stores so we’ll worth what it cost. Top marks and would recommend.
Had three layers of wallpaper in a terraced house to remove. Worked a treat, so well that I bought a second one for two of us to do the whole house. No issues at all.
Yet to use but it is clear they will improve my tiling skills, which are limited. May justify a higher review but first impressions are these are great.
