The Black & Decker Steamer is an absolute god send. After years of not knowing what the old te tenants covered up in in the bedroom under a smelly old carpet, there was wallpaper dried and varnished over the wood planks… needless to say, it worked! But I found the steam didn’t quite “go through” the varnish. After a good sand papering is was effortlessly done, with the steamer doing most of the hard work.
I highly recommend purchasing this Wallpaper Stripper Steamer!
I have an old Black and Decker wallpaper stripper and lent it to a friend who I never got it back from. However this one isuch better. The pressure is better and it strips wallpaper more efficiently. The lining paper I could get off in one piece which is far better than the old one. Well done that friend who borrowed it!
Have got hours of use and removed some well stuck wall coverings
Heats up quickly, easy to operate and gets the paper off quickly and, if careful, in large, continuous strips. A decent enough tank capacity – which, when full, lasts for about 3/4 of an hour – at least at the pace I manage. It’s well made, light but with hard wearing plastic. Like all such items, be careful and don’t point the steam toward you! And, be careful emptying out boiling water, especially if you take off the hose before you do so since the small connecting spout will also pour with water alongside the main filler. All in, I’m very impressed. It doesn’t make wallpaper stripping enjoyable (what would?) but it sue does make it a lot faster and easier.
First off I have to apologise when I first got the steamer I was very disappointed and wrote a poor review even boxed it up to return but thankfully my brother advised how to use it properly so I give it another chance and so glad that I did it was excellent removed thick wallpaper and under paper lining no problem.
Worked well with challenging wallpaper removal job and easy to set up and use. Careful as the wallpaper that comes off can make the floor slippery! But that’s not a fault of this machine specifically
Works great and makes light work of a wood chipped room. Only used it on one room though so not sure about it’s durability. Though it worked great it did start to spit boiling water towards the end of my removal so do bear that in mind.
It’s a joy to use. Just take care, be patient and focus on getting the preparation right. This makes it a pleasure. Really. It’s turned a nightmare job of stripping wallpaper and THEN the remaining backing paper into what I can only describe as ‘good therapy’.
With ceilings, just be careful, keep it upright and have a handy sink or bucket to tip the gathered near-boiling water into.
As you will see in the video, I tend to hold it over the area, count slowly to 10, then move it. No need to score the paper at all.
#### ESSENTIAL SAFETY TIPS ####
CEILINGS – Remember that near boiling water will pool in the thing you are holding against the ceiling, so have that bucket handy, KEEP THE STEAMER HANDLE LEVEL, do NOT stand directly under it, and carefully pour the hot hot hot water safely away.
WALLS AND CEILINGS – This will help you do quality preparation work, just take your time. I found doing more than a few feet at a time counter-productive on some walls, but that I could do 8 feet of wall paper in one go on other, less abused walls. You can safely turn it off at the plug while you carefully strip what you’ve steamed and you will be back up to speed in a few seconds when you turn it back on, without wasting water or power.
CEILINGS – Buying a platform to stand on changed my life, making the ceilings no longer something to be scared of!
OVERALL – TAKE YOUR TIME. Rush this bit of decorating at your own peril. This thing is damn good quality, no silly switches or anything, just fill with water, plug it in, wait for the steam to come out and you’re off!
Super easy to use, long use between refils, has been very effective on 30 year old thick textured paper with 10+ coats of paint, just needed to score the paper, be patient and it came off brilliantly.
We have used this machine for a number of jobs. Wallpaper stripping, getting glue off of old polystyrene tiles. Removing polystyrene coving. Can’t fault it. Loosen grease from a kitchen cieling
This product worked really well to aid the removal of three stretches of wallpaper. The paper more or less dropped off the walls after applying steam. The automatic cut out when more water required was useful. It was worth paying a little extra to have a more superior tool.
Used to take layers of wallpaper from our Victorian house. Some of it was original Victorian paper that had been painted over, took a few goings over bit it did the job. I was a bit worried it would damage the original lime plaster underneath but plaster was intact after removing the wallpaper.
I followed another review and didn’t leave for the full 20 seconds as suggested. I did a few smaller passes. The areas of lining paper I used the steamer then left for about 5-10 min and I was able to get long lengths off the wall.
Just so straightforward to use. Did the job perfectly well, many thanks
Easy to use.. give it 10 minutes to heat up and good to go.. worked well for stubborn wallpape
Bought this tool to remove wallpaper and lining paper and found it overall effective. The length of hose is helpful when up a larder working at the top of a wall. I would buy again.
Good price and did the job. Had to strip some heavy duty wallpaper adhesive and thick pape
Best buy!
Just moved house and was a godsend
Removed wallpaper
Even removed (safe and tested) artex with ease
Cleaned wet room flooring after emulsion spilt on it
Can’t recommend enough!
I had intended to buy an Earlex one, but then I came across this and found that it had good reviews.
I’m very pleased with it. It’s well designed, easy to fill with a big chunky screw cap which is easy to grip. Heats up within a few minutes and away you go! The hose is a good length so you should be able to keep the steamer on the floor and reach the top of the wall no problem. The only thing I found a bit odd was that there was no on/off switch on the machine – maybe it makes it safer and also cheaper to make. It’s not an issue, just unplug when you’ve finished or when you’re refilling. REMEMBER THAT THE STEAM COMING OUT OF THE ORANGE PLATE IS VERY HOT!!!! I found that holding the plate for 20-30 seconds in one place and then steadily moving it down (better than up) worked well. Obviously it depends on the paper.
I’m very pleased but once I’ve finished my ‘stripping’ I’ll probably sell it on, rather than have another piece of gear to store!
Buy it, it makes the job easy.
This made stripping old wallpaper very easy. Was harder to get the vinyl wallpaper off but without the steamer it would have been impossible.
This was to replace the same wallpaper stripper I’ve had for years. My new one is just as easy to use and hope it is equally as reliable
Brilliant does as it says took wall paper with ease great value
Great stripper, well made, heats up quick, simple to use and set up
Only issue is the size of the pad, great for large areas, and straight surfaces, would be absolutely brilliant if it came with a option adapter for a smaller area/tight spots.
Brilliant! Used this to strip 3 walls and it did to with easy. If you do it right no need for a scraper, which saves marks on the wall.
I can’t imagine stripping wallpaper without this – absolute gem this has been and so easy to use – I would highly recommend to anyone stripping old wallpape
Fabulous. Recently moved house and it’s had a lot of use – 6-8 hours a day for over two weeks – layers and layers of thick painted embossed paper.
It’s worked amazingly well. Needs refilling regularly but has done very well for the price. Very impressed. Would recommend.
Very good little steamer
Removed my thick wall paper with ease
Lasts quite a while before needs refilling
Lightweight and powerful.
Was dreading this job but so glad I purchased this its brilliant and the cord and hose and very long
Does exactly as it says on the tin. I had a couple of thick layers of wallpaper to remove and I have done the job in no time using this steamer.
2 litres of water was enough for one wall, and it takes around 10 minutes to warm up from cold. Re-Fill up just before the water drops to minimum and it takes a couple of minutes to get warm again. A recommended buy!
Not used for removing wallpaper but for steaming oak for a boat and used in conjuntion with 6″ lay flat plastic tube. Provided sufficient steam to easily fill 4 metres of tube and heating 2″ square oak prior to bending with very good results. Used the water quite quickly (lasted around 30 minutes) but was filled with boiling water from a kettle as the wood needed to be steamed for 2 hours. Well made and double walled so outside surface is not hot. No idea if it is any good for wallpaper though!
The paper was around 15 years old and painted over so I didn’t expect miracles, the glue was impossible to remove using cold water and scrapper. After a bit of practise I found the right amount of time to leave the steam head over each section and before long the paper and glue was practically falling off by itself. The machine worked without fault in this case for approx 35 square mts.
Very pleased with the results.
I have been through countless cheap wallpaper strippers and this one is by far the best. Easy to use quick to heat and very little drip
Having tried smaller domestic steam cleaners as well as wallpaper stripper for wallpaper that is old, multi layered and painted over, I found this to be the best at tackling the job.
Excellent product that removed all papers encountered. Good run time on one fill and good coverage with the paddles supplied. The knock off when empty works well. Great delivery and well worth the money
Remarkably quick at removing the paper! Took a while to heat up but one tank completed our small bedroom with spare in the tank.
Works really well even on hard to shift wallpaper- my only suggestion would be for the full guide window to be clearer as I struggled to view the water level through the plastic
Its a nice product only one problem you can not see the water level properly
Very good steamer great value for money warms up in no time. Perfect, I did 2 rooms with ease
Used to own a wallpaper steamer several years ago but it broke. Embarking on a lockdown decorating project required me to buy a replacement.
This one is far better than my old one. The large capacity means you are not constantly having to stop to refill. The instructions are clear and the steamer works well. The wallpaper came off no problem.
I bought this to remove tile adhesive from the walls of a bathroom, it worked a treat. I’m sure it would be great on wallpaper too
Good value for money. Also really easy to use given I’d never really used one before. I did find that my wallpaper was the cockroach of wall paper and would survive almost anything when I was attempting to take it down. But once the steamer had done its thing I could generally peel it off easier.
This was the cheapest on Amazon or indeed eBay I could find as I only had one room to do, and could not be bothered scraping, Jings what a great cheap device did the job perfect and in a few hours for 4 walls !!!
We had to strip wallpaper from our lounge/dining room. We purchased this for the job and it worked really well. The wallpaper was easy to remove and I would recommend this to anyone.
Easy to use and the steam lasts a good while before the tank needs refilling. Steamed through thick lining paper that had been painted several times, no doubts it will get through the anaglypta!
I had to remove two layers of wallpaper. One was fairly easy and the other well glued lining wallpaper (evil!). This killed it. In fact, if you leave it more than 10seconds on the wall, and if the wall behind has paint, it will remove the paint as well (which was absolutely brilliant!). I ended up removing wallpaper and the paint behind it. When I needed to remove the paint, I also used it for that.
Started using this steamer as soon as it arrived. Was having great difficulty getting thick wallpaper & liner off. Much easier with this piece of equipment. Would be easier still if you have someone to help. One person steaming & the other scraping but one person can manage it on their own. Great value for money.
This was so easy to use and very handy removing the wallpape
Beyond happy with this purchase, simple to use and gets the job done with ease, currently redecorating the family home and this works like a charm stripped the wallpaper in the passage and bedrooms like a hot knife through butter, great wallpaper stripper from a reputable company that does exactly what you would expect it to do
Works as expected. Only issue is it does seem to put out a lot of water in comparison to other steamers I’ve used a which ends up with quite a lot of water running down the wall. To solve this I’ve waited longer than the stated time for it to heat up and this seems to have improved things though shortens the duration for which you can steam for.
I’ve never had or used a wallpaper steamer before but this would did the job pretty well. Easy to set up and heats up quickly and the container holds plenty of water, certainly enough to get plenty of paper stripped before you lose the will to live. It produces loads of steam but also does tend to trickle water down the wall, but again not sure if this is normal and no idea how it stacks up against other brands but for the money I’m pleased.
This is a great product. It removed painted wallpaper with ease. I highly recommend it and it does exactly what its says on the tin.
I brought the wallpaper stripper fo my daughter to use in her newly acquired home to remove numerous layers of paper on all the walls, having never done this before and dreading it from listening to other people’s experiences was truly amazed at the progress she was able to make with this product and found it quite therapeutic and will be quite disappointed when it’s all finished ceilings included,so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product and certainly value for money thank you.
Only used this to defrost a freezer so far but seems good, nice design means it is stable
This wallpaper stripper is very good and did a whole room in less than a hour. It heats up quick and the water tank is big so I only had to refill it twice. Good value for money and gets the job done.
This product is great as bought it and used on my sisters flat she got and it take wallpaper off walls great and quickly would recommend this produc
A good appliance and it has a long power cord and a long steam pipe so the steamer remains on the floor at all times for standard ceilings.I have had other steam strippers but they never lasted.Black & Decker have a good product here.A++++
This did a really good job removing wallpaper in a very difficult room (it had many layers of paint) and a much better job in a room with just wallpaper. It is very easy to use, as we are new homeowners and haven’t used one before
It takes ages to heat up, and the water does drip down when using the steamer so you have to be careful above sockets but generally really good product for the money.
I liked the fact that it only took just over 10 minutes to heat up and get going.
It was simple to use and effortlessly steamed wallpaper off. It is niceand compact so easily sits on the floor and has a long lead and a long extending hose to reach corners and high ceilings.
Be careful to plug it into the mains and not an extension lead (its 2.4KW) and put tape over any electrical fitting on the wall that you are steaming.
I am happy with my choice.
I was somewhat sceptical buying this. My childhood memories of days of scraping wallpaper and filling holes afterwards led me to try a new way. I must say I was pleasantly surprised completing a whole room in a couple of hours with very little repair work needed afterwards. A definite time saver!
Read the ratings on lots of strippers before buying and not at all disappointed worked very well with only negative being you can’t unplug the lead from the back of the boiler unit to refill or store but is a very good strippe
I had a much older version that I had used for years, but unfortunately mislaid the power lead which had an integral circuit breaker. Other leads wouldn’t fit. This was a good replacement being much lighter, but still worked as well.
This was a god send for me whilst renovating upstairs.plentybof steam and a nice large surface area on the plate which goes on the wall.lightweight to carry and aterrific large connecting hose to boot.would recommend without question.
So Pleased we Got This. My Husband thought we did not need this. I insisted we get it and bought it. When he started using it he was delighted at the amount of time it ended up saving us. Can’t imagine how long the ordinary little steamer would have taken 🙂
Managed to strip a whole house of wallpaper using this albeit a small house but it worked a treat. It’s not the most durable thing and feels a bit flimsy and doesn’t have the biggest tank for water. Wouldn’t recommend for trades people but for personal use it’s great, we’ve also lent it out since and it’s still going strong. Really easy learning curve just follow the instructions and it won’t let you down.
It does what it says it should do. I been using it for two days so far and I don’t have any complaints other than I wish there was a on/off button on it to avoid having to go to the plug all the time because you can only do a small area at a time before it dries up.
Had some doubts about buying this, thought Black and Decker were more the casual end of DIY than anything more serious. But this little steamer works a treat. Used it to steam off old, peeling Artex. What we like is it’s so simple to use, just connect the hose, fill with water, stick the steamer end in a bucket (to stop it splashing out everywhere) and switch on. Ten mins later it’s bubbling away nicely. No faffing about with adjustments or anything. There’s nothing much to go wrong, the design is very simple, and it just keeps working whatever you throw at it. Good stuff
This steamer took off the wallpaper AND plaster. I don’t blame the steamer – seemingly my walls should’ve been bonded more! My house is still standing and I now have lovely new tripled bonded plastered walls.
Bought the product for the name and hasn’t let me down. Recently bought a house and needed major modernisation, had a friend come and help bought his different branded steamer. This product kept on going, the other steamer needed to take breaks and after seven rooms has broken down but this is carrying on. Will be buying another black and decker steamer for my friend.
Comes to boil very quickly so no hanging about in between refills, little things like a storage area to put the steamer plate is a nice touch. Also the pipe ends have what appears to be brass inserts to make the connection stronger between the pipe and the streamer unit and the steamer plate.
This product was of great help during a complete renovation of our first home. Heat up time was quicker than I expected. And the steamer works well on a variety of surfaces including wood chip wall coverings. The only thing I would say is the item isn’t as sturdy as I had hoped, that being said it’s still working fine and great considering the price.
This has been really useful for stripping a lot of our walls back for redecorating. it lifted a lot of the wallpaper very easily. It was not however effective in some cases such as vinyl papers where the steam simply didn’t get through sufficiently even after using a spiking tool.
The water capacity is about right for a single stripping session and it is easy to fill. Once filled it is quite heavy so I ended up filling it in place using an old bottle.
Good tool, with seemingly no design problems. I found that it was best to remove as much paper as possible without using the steamer and then steam the difficult bits – the steaming process creates some mess and the clean up of dry paper is much easier than wet, sticky paper.
Have used the silver line ones before and they all landed up faulty, did the whole flat with this one no problems, I did make sure it never boiled dry. Or went past minimum mark on the tank, and had no problems. Heats up fast, and works well.
This is far better than the cheaper models. I recently used an Earlex stripper that was constantly cutting out. Apparently this was ‘normal’ as it needed time to cool down after overheating, but then it just kept cutting out more and more frequently until I couldn’t use it. I opted to purchase the Black & Decker as I know it is generally a good brand. I was not disappointed. I have used it non-stop over a period of a week and it has not cut out once. When it runs out of water I just give it a couple of minutes to cool down before re-filling and then you are up and running again. The materials feel more sturdy and generally better quality than the cheaper models. Couldn’t be happier as it made for stress-free decorating and easily handled several layers of wallpaper that were embossed and painted.
Never used one of these before but saw a family member using one like it in their house so thought I’d give it a try. I’m doing hall and stairs right now and most of it under the wallpaper has wood hip on it as well! Usually it takes forever to get that stuff off using a sponge and hot water and scraper etc. What I do is remove outer wallpaper which in my case is easy to come off itself leaving a thing under paper which can be removed easily with the strippe. Then I score the woodchip using the metal scraper in diagonal lines and put stripper on it for about 10seconds at a time. All the woodchip is removed effortlessly using this method and I’m nearly finished all the walls. I had to remove the ceiling wallpaper as well and wondered if the water would run down my arm etc while holding it upside down?
No worries there at all! No water whatsoever fell down, ever!
Steam was a problem in confined places but leaving windows and doors open soon sorted that one out.
Gets really hot when you are using the steam but that’s to be expected. End results are amazing! No big holes in the plaster, no grooves, chips or cuts again!
Can’t praise this highly enough.
Well worth 5 stars and easily best money I’ve spent in a long while. Excellent product! Removes wallpaper in seconds!
Great product I fully recommend, is removing even paint from the wall with usually you use a heat gun. With Back&Decker is much faste
Easy to use , build quality is very good and does the job very well, heats up quite quickly and provides a good stream of steam. Would buy again.
I’d tried a wallpaper stripper spray, but that wasn’t working. This steamer made it much easier. It is easy to use, even for an inexperienced DIYer. Easy to fill. Takes a few minutes to warm-up, but I use that time to get everything else in place. The tank isn’t huge, but I need a break by the time it’s empty anyway!
Very effective tool. Just did a very large bathroom (5m x 2m). I peeled off as much of the old paper as I could first to get it down to the lining paper, then used the stripper, did 80% of it in 6 hours. Strongly suggest using it for 5 seconds at a time first, then ramping it up to 10 seconds if it doesn’t come cleanly. Instructions say 20 seconds but thats too long, could damage weak plaster. Start at the bottom and work your way up a wall, let the steam work above you as you go. Cheap compared to hiring, no brainier, buy it.
Bought this as I usually lend a friends and figured it was about time I should just get my own. A cheaper versions people on reviews complained over it being slow to heat this heated up within a matter of minutes. Others in the past I’ve used have dropped lots of water down the walls and onto floors but this one didn’t. Highly recommend
I have used this wallpaper stripper about 3 to 4 times. It works well but the steam doesn’t last very long and I have to be careful to stop it well before the water in the tank reaches the minimum level (to make sure it doesn’t break as some reviews have suggested). Note that my plug socket is pretty hot after use so maybe not suitable for an older plug or electric system.
This is definitely one of the best things I bout for our refurbishment. A few layers of victorian wallpaper with the occasional egg shell paint layer, and this thing handled it like a boss. The wall needs scoring but this thing is worth its weight in gold.
I didn’t want to pay money for a stripper. But I have to admit this stripper has made life a lot easier. And as we were doing the whole house it was well worth the money. It takes paper off with ease and does a cleaner job with less damage to the walls compared to dry stripping with a knife. Thick or vinyl papers will have to have the top layer taken off before you get to the paper layer, so takes a little longer with two passes instead of one.
My one complaint is that there’s no ‘on’ light anywhere, and because it takes a while to boil the water we thought the machine wasn’t working when it arrived. It also comes with an irritating low profile plug designed to make taking a plug out of a wall socket a bit of a struggle. A ‘frustration-free’ plug would be an improvement as I almost need a mini crowbar for the plug on this thing. But these are minor moans.
With the wallpaper gone, we’ve painted all of our walls now and won’t be papering again.
Sturdy feeling device, bought after another make failed. Seems to have changed slightly, nowhere to store steamer pad on back of water bottle as mentioned in earlier reviews, but no great loss. Works well, can’t comment on reliability as only used once so far.
(First order arrived damaged, black flexi hose damaged one end, but the whole unit was replaced by Amazon with speed and courtesy, great service).
This is good for the price. It is basically a kettle with a steam outlet. Do follow the instructions to avoid blowing plaster or placing the unit on a carpet as it does get hot. This is not a failt with the product just a fact that steam is hot. If you have loose plaster under the paper then the steam will cause it to blow out. So hace some filler handy. My only criticism of the product is that the tube screws onto a plastic thread on the kettle and the pad. So it won’t be strong for professional use or take lots of twisting. All in all, glad we bought it and it certainly made wallpaper removal much easier.
I had to replace my old wallpaper steamer as the wire and plug were getting hot and starting to melt. This looks really modern in comparison but does the same thing.
Method I use – You fill full of water switch on and wait for the steam to come. It’s then just a matter of holding it still in one place on the wall for a few seconds then moving to next piece.
If the wallpaper is not easy to get off with a scraper you have not left it on long enough. If the wallpaper has lots of paint on you may need to score it first. You can use edge of scraper or buy a scorer that cuts easily through. Some people say that they also spray with water but for me that misses the point of using a steamer, you can’t rush it you just have to give the moisture time to soak in and loosen the glue, once it does its a piece of cake.
It has a place to hook the steamer plate on the main body but it’s not that convenient unless it’s when you are putting it away. It just ends up on the floor with all the old sticky wallpaper, that’s ok with me as it means it’s done it’s job.
This steamer seemed to create more steam than my old one but there is no way to measure so might be my imagination, but works great, would highly recommend.
This thing is amazing! We moved in to a house which had 3 layers of wallpaper added to plastered walls over a period of probably 50 years +. The first two layers (a woodchip plus a standard) we were able to remove with just a stripping knife but the final layer was pretty well stuck to the wall and the knife wouldn’t make it budge. We then dried a sponge with warm water and washing up liquid plus a knife – still nothing. Then we tried the steamer – wow! It came off with ease and took no time at all to strip the room. My only word of warning is don’t leave it for 20 seconds as the instructions say. Try it for 5 or 6 seconds first and you’ll quickly know if that’s enough or if it needs a little more. I suspect 20 seconds would have saturated the plaster – but 6 seconds worked a dream for us so we’ll never know. If you value your time or sainity….buy it!
Despite trying to be tight and use a sponge and warm water to remove some 50 year old wallpaper lining, I relented after about 2 hours of hacking away and only scraping off an area no bigger than my head. This arrived a few days later and this has made the job so much easier. You simply wait for it to heat up and leave the pad over the area you want removed for about 10 seconds that scrape it off with ease.
Good wallpaper stripper, got some old wallpaper off pretty easily, got a nice big fill tank and long hose to reach into them awkward places.
takes about 3-4 mins to boil the water for the steam, i did notice too that it was 95% steam too as ive had strippers in the past that kick out alot of water.
In the end I did not use it as much as I thought I would as my plans changed a bit. However, some very obstinate wallpaper I wanted to remove was removed in no time at all unlike when trying by hand which was really difficult. Excellent.
Once you get into using it – it takes just a little bit of practise to get the technique right – then its a godsend. Was stripping large rooms (wall/ceilings) and it made a horrible job much much easier. Light and easy to use. I think these things would be better if there was an on/off control at the working end but I’m sure there’s a design reason why that’s not so.
Brilliant and saved a lot of unwanted time trying to
Prep walls. Didn’t have an issue with no on off switch as I used the tank until empty. It allows for loads of work being done without it running out too soon. Love this steamer 100% from me.
I bought this to remove woodchip paper from a large room. I have never used another steamer so I can not compare, but this one did an amazing job. It does exactly what you expect it to do, heats up quite fast and maintain a steady steam output for a long period. hose cable is very long so no need to move around a lot. Very easy set up.
What a find! It took no time at all to strip a wall of anaglipta in my old terrace house that had no doubt had many coats of paint over the years.Very pleased with it.
Used this to remove the wallpaper in my kids’ room. At first, it was driving me crazy. The wallpaper was coming off in bits, and small patch was taking ages. I almost gave up! Came back after watch some YouTube vids, and got into the rhythm so the paper started coming off in droves. Eventually, was able to clear a wall 8×10′ in about an hour. You will need to use a scraper to help remove paint (I bought the Am-Tech soft grip 7″ that was advertised with this item and it worked very well). I followed a YouTube recommendation of spring a mixture of fabric softener and water on the walls once the paper was off to scrape off the remnant glue. Seems to have done the trick and the walls are now nicely painted (saved me 400 quoted by the decorators who were not booked up for 4 months!). Keep the windows open, cover the floor well if you’re not changing the carpets (the steam will condensate and drip down). I’d also recommend wearing a facemask so you don’t breath in melted wallpaper paste fumes.
Not having much dealing with wallpaper in the past and seeing as it was a small room I thought “Damp sponge and a scrapper” would do the trick. Wrong! So I started looking into easier ways to do the job and the Black and Decker KX3300T Wallpaper Stripper is what I went for. The assembly was easy and if done correctly and used carefully the steam is never a problem. However I would advise placing a towel at the skirting board to soak up the dribbles of water that trickle down the wall. Anyway a good product and the job done in a couple of hours.
Heats quickly and does the job. Only downside is it vents a lot of steam out of the boiler unit rather than the steamer plate, meaning that it uses up the water rather fast. One fill would last for 2-3 paper-widths of a wall. Though my old one streamed for longer at a sitting, it died on my second attempt to use it. Check reviews before buying!
Bought this to aid removing the dreaded wood chip wallpaper and chose this one instead of cheaper ones because of the brand, I’m sure they will all do the job but I’d rather use a brand I know to be reliable and will last.
I first tried perforating paper and wallpaper removal liquid with limited success so I bought this and tried perforating paper then steaming with limited success.
What worked a treat and made the job so easy was using it all together. 1 perforate paper 2 spray polycell wallpaper remover generously 3 steamer applied and a stripping trowel and it was coming off in half room height strips at times!
As it aided me loads I can recommend it for aiding wood chip removal with the above steps.
I bought this for one specific job and in that job it absolutely excelled!
In one of the bedrooms in my house, there was a top and bottom paper border than had been up on plasterboard walls for over 15 years.
It was so dried out that I was sure I was never going to get it off.
I used a roller wallpaper perforator to penetrate the paper and allow the steam to get behind the paper to melt the glue.
The large steam pad was just the right size to cover the border.
After 20 seconds of steaming, the border simply peeled off! I did not even need to scrape it and no damage at all was caused to the plasterboard walls.
I found it quick to heat up and simple to use.
Highly recommended.
I love this, makes a big difference since my last black+decker unit that was purchased over 13yrs ago. That unit probably didn’t work properly now so wasn’t effective hence this new purchase, so sum up am really pleased with it all. I haven’t had any cut out issues yet but pleased with the large water tank and the long hose pipe. The only thing I’d say or mention is this unit doesn’t like extension reels so plug direct into a wall socket.
Other than messing up when first used by not holding it in place long enough (and son taking nips out of wall with metal scrapper) once we got the hang of it this has been an excellent buy. I remember hiring one 18 years ago and it was so heavy, like holding a steam iron to the wall, this is light, easy to use and I am thrilled with it. Wallpaper on the walls has been there 15 years so was not going to be easy to get off this has made it so easy and I would highly recommend it. Delivered quickly which is what I have come to expect from Amazon.
Required to strip old ceiling paper from a 120 year old wattle ceiling prior to having it skimmed. Removed as much of the (60’s) embossed paper, dry, leaving a very solid base paper.
Using the “2400” and a 4″ scraper, all ceiling base paper (and Glue remnants) were removed from a 15′ x 15′ ceiling within half an hour.
Some care has to be exercised to ensure you don’t scald yourself with the steam when scraping or peeling the damp paper off, but lesson learned the first time.
Very impressed, and as this is the start of decorating several similar rooms am very pleased to have resolved one of the main problems so easily.
Highly Recommended.
