This little amp sounds fantastic for what it is. Most of my practice time is later at night once the kid goes to sleep so it’s nice to be able to play at super low volumes as to not bother anyone else in the house but still get a great sound from it. I have a beautiful hand-wired Victoria 5112 but honestly play through the Katana mini more lately.

I loved this amp. It’s so small yet so powerful and sounds amazing. If you are on a budget this is the only choice.

“Roland” spends most of his time (pretty much) right in front of me, sitting on my coffee table in the living room. As I always have a guitar within reach, it’s a simple case of “plug in, press on” and away we go: No more excuses for not practising then!

Personally, I like the overdriven sound. To all intents and purposes (i.e., practising) little Roland is ideal. As a Bluetooth speaker he’s fine and he kicks out a volume which is quite sufficient for a living room setting (and has to be turned down at night). However, if you find your Roland is not loud enough, might I suggest that you try something similar to the following:

Yesterday, I decided to connect little Roland’s headphone output (3.5mm stereo jack) to the auxiliary input on one of my amps (a Hartke TX6oo bass head, delivering 4ooW RMS through 2 of 2 1o” 25oW Ashdown bass cabinets). Later, I also connected it to a small, basic, unbranded (2 1ooW) stereo PA system fed by a Behringer Xenyx o8o2 compact mixer (headphone out – as above – to a stereo line-in strip on the desk).

In both cases, the results were, actually, just as I expected. Both “systems” were “flat” in terms of their EQ, etc., no FX were used, so little Roland just got loud, very loud, impressively loud.

However, that’s the point: Through my PA and/or a bass stack, the sound quality was pristine and most definitely good enough to rehearse with. In fact, back in the 7os, Roland and I might well have played a few gigs. All you need is an amplifier with (preferably) an auxiliary input – although it’s all line level stuff really – or a standard mixing desk with PA, and you can make enough noise with the little Roland to get yourself arrested… Maybe not such a great idea after all, but you get the general idea, right?

I live in a smaller home and this little amp lets you practice and play on your own without having to lug out a big amp. It sounds great wit 3 setting for (clean, crunch and brown) whatever sound you looking for. I even pulled out an overdrive pedal to try and it works great. You can plug in your computer or phone and play along with any song or backing track. Additionally you can also use headphones for playing privately. You can use batteries but I bought the power adaptor for it. Overall it does exactly what I wanted it for and its a great value for the price.

If you want a practice amp than go for it. Best for metal lover. Awesome clean tone and distortion and you can chug on it.
    This amp has only one CON, that is;
You need to buy an adapter seperately or 6 AA
    rechargeablee battery.

I know the size info was in the description, but I had pictured it a little bit bigger. The sound quality is worth about $99, which is what I paid. It will probably work ok for “on the porch” amplification – still deciding whether to keep it or pay more for better sound.

The Katana Mini is everything I was looking for in a practice amp. Firstly I am a huge fan of Boss products using the ME80 MFX pedal and having the Katana 50 as my main amp. But with a baby on the way I have had to relenquish my practice room for baby rockers and as such needed an alternative (and quieter) option. The Katana Mini does this. First the volume is great for such a small unit. The battery power is fantastic for being able to take from room to room or seat to seat. No wires bar the guitar cable makes things far easier. The quality of sound is outstanding too. Being able to get the quality of sound out of something this size is a dream and the cabinet voiced headphone jack is great too for late night practicing.

This thing is nuts. It’s amazing the sound you can get out of a tiny three inch speaker. If you’re looking for a great practice amp period, this is a great choice. If you’re on the fence, you’ll be glad you got it. The size is just a bonus. Anywhere I can take a guitar, I can take this. Wish I had it on my last vacation! It’s also a great speaker to play music out of if you have an aux cord!

The only downsides are that it doesn’t come with the power adapter (I’d recommend just getting it), and that it can be a little bit buzzy on the brown setting, but it’s only audible when you’re not playing anything, and I think most guitarists are quick enough with their volume knobs that it really is a non issue, especially considering how good everything else about it is. Truly great sound.

Wanted a small portable amp because lugging my AC30 around the house can be a pain. Very pleased with this one. Tone’s pretty good although I haven’t tried my pedal board on it yet. Comes supplied with 6 AA batteries but I bought a power supply for it too. Wind it up and it’s surprisingly loud, but sounds good turned down too. Has my wife’s favourite feature, a headphone socket.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s surprising how good this thing sounds.. IT’S NOT A TOY. Volume wise it could be heard easily if someone shouted if the amp was on full volume.. I dare say it would be ok for a practice session without drums.. It’s original intention is to take on a gig and practice your set in a room. Before going on stage. The cleans and Fender- like.. very sparkling and bright.. the Crunch setting is good for blues and light rock AC/DC etc.. The Brown setting is very much heavy rock / Valen Halen essqe. Very good for lead work.. The Delay is very good analogue type delay. I dare say if you sat aropund with mates who’re playing acoustics it would easy be loud enough if not drown them out. I’ve played my 12 string acoustic through it and it sounds lush on the Clean setting. So if wives / GF’s are looking for a gift for your guitarist partner.. buy them this. Or if you’re a guitarist yourself buy one.

More great stuff from them super clever Boss dudes.

If you want an inexpensive practice amp that sounds much bigger than it is, this is it.

I’d give it 5 stars if it had fake spring reverb, it doesn’t. but it has delay, which I guess can be made to sound a bit like reverb with some fiddling.

Still for the price you can’t contain-ah the Kantana. Amazing!

After nearly a year of using this I feel well placed to leave a review of what I think. As a guitar teacher this is a fantastic product, it allows me to take an electric guitar to my students’ houses without needing a massive rig and it takes seconds to set up.

Anyone that is learning to play should get one of these as their practice amp, it sounds better than you’d expect something this small to sound and it has some additional effects such as two different overdrives and delay.

I’d like to have a little more low end but for the money and how convenient it is I really can’t have any complaints.

I wanted a tiny amp that I could use while I’m just sitting around on the couch instead of going into the other room with the big amp and everything. Works perfectly for that. Not super loud but it doesn’t need to be. Sounds good and doesn’t scare the cat out of the room. Has a delay on it which is pretty cool. Would like if it had a reverb but if you use a really short delay with a low level it kinda sounds reverb-y. Anyways, since I’ve gotten it, I’ve spent a lot more time playing with my guitars than I did before because it makes it so convenient. Good get.

I’ve recently ventured into the world of electric violins and wanted a little amp to experiment with different effects. I was totally blown away by this amp! I was a little worried when I picked up the box and felt how light it was but my worries melted away when I plugged it in.
It was really easy to set up (just plug and play) and produced a really nice clean sound with my violin (Hidersine HEV3). Setting the delay time to zero and the level to max seems to give a nice “reverby” type sound and the delay itself is really nice.
I’m going to have a lot of fun with this! It’s definitely load enough for practicing at home and has a headphone jack in the back for quiet practice too.

I didn’t purchase this from Amazon. Normally, the amp doesn’t come with a power supply (other than AA batteries) so if you want to plug this into the main you will have to buy the AC plug separately.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis amp is literally perfect for someone who wants to practice in a home without disturbing other people in the home. I had been using my main amp with headphones – but began to worry about my hearing, as I tended to listen too loudly.

This began my quest for the perfect practice amp… after trying about 5 others, I finally found this jewel. Here’s why I love it:

    1. It’s the perfect size and weight. It’s small enough that you can set it pretty much anywhere (your desk, coffee table, on the couch beside you, etc). But it’s heavy and big enough that it does not tip over and it feels like a “real” amp. Although it is quite small.
    2. It has the perfect amount of tone control for a practice amp. Gain and master volume with Clean, crunch, and brown settings and with bass, mids, and treble controls. Add to that the delay settings and it’s perfect. Not too many things to waist your time fiddling with – but just enough so you can quickly dial in a perfect and great tone for whatever you are trying to play.
    3. It has the perfect volume. Many of the small practice amps still need to be pretty loud to sound good. This little guy sounds awesome at low volume. I can sit in my office (a bed room) And jam heavy tones headphone free, and no one in the house can hear me!
    4. It works great with batteries and that makes it very portable.
    5. You can use a power supply (not included) when convenient to save battery money.

Now for a couple of things to be aware of:
    1. It does not come with a power supply, you’ll have to buy one separately (9v 500ma aka .5a with a negative center). I found one on Amazon for 12 bucks.
    2. It does come with a set of AA batteries, and I used it all day with just the batteries and they still seam fine. I’m not sure yet how many days they’ll last though…
    3. This amp probably could not be used for a full band practice IMO. The sound is just not big enough for that.

It if your looking for the perfect individual practice amp at a great price… look no further. This thing is awesome.

I grabbed mine for less from Amz Warehouse and spent the whole first night I had with it messing around on it. For the money and the size/convenience, I’m shocked how good it is. Spend some time dialling it in and you can get some very decent tones from it. If you want something to take out into the garden while you’re quarantined, this is perfect! I have also have a slightly bigger THR10. For my ears, the Boss is probably better at crunchy sounds and the THR10 is better at clean sounds

I love this thing, it’s really made me practice a lot more, as it’s so easy to play amped up now. The amps always on standby and as soon as you pick up the guitar the wireless plug turns the amp on. When you put it down, after a min the amp goes back on standby. Saves a lot of cables running around the living room too.

Only down side I’d say is that if you want to run the amp off battery it doesn’t last that long, but still a great buy.

I needed a bedroom practice amp for my son and took a chance on this after reading favourable reviews. It sounds great. It’s tight, it’s loud and takes up no space at all. I would’ve loved something like this some 30 odd years ago. I plan to ‘borrow’ it from time to time to record with, to mic-up where I can’t have things too loud but need the response. If you are looking for a bedroom practice amp. I wouldn’t hesitate.

For a small amp it sounds decent. But…I have the Blackstar already and wanted something even smaller for traveling light. This amp is about 50% larger than the Blackstar and sounds no better (or not much better). It also costs almost twice as much, not that it was the main issue for me.

So the main reason I’m writing this review is to let people know it’s true dimensions are 7″ x 9″ x 4.5″ (you could remove the fixed hard handle and save a little on height). But it’s not even close to the listed size of 4.21″ x 2.68″ x 3.66″. So if you were hoping it would be smaller than the Blackstar it’s not, but if size doesn’t matter then it might be right for you.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI agree with just about all the reviews however they are expecting a great bluetooth speaker and a great guitar amp and this is good but not great. Set up is simple and the volume is good in a 15m x 10m open space (and this from someone whose hearing is not great) so criticism is not really warranted. It doesn’t claim to be an outdoor busking amplifier! I also wear specs so the well founded criticisms about difficulty in reading the buttons is a moot point Bluetooth works effortlessly and I also plug Alexa in with no issues.
The amp side is just about OK. Good for amplifying a Martin Acoustic however just OK with the Fender Tele. The PRS is not really the guitar for this but again it depends what you are looking for. I plugged in a Boss GT-1 with the PRS but the amp couldn’t really handle the effects and the sound wasn’t great. Adjusting the settings on the GT-1 might improve things but I’ll stick to the Blackstar ID Core with the PRS and the GT-1.
In summary, I paid 115 (was 179 originally and now up at about 150) and i’m happy with this nifty bit of kit however I recognise it’s limitations. Kudos to Roland for the attempt and it would seem Marshall have missed a trick in now mass producing really good Bluetooth speakers without a guitar function – amps are their core business after all. Marshall’s version of this is a dedicated bluetooth amp at nearly 400 so you pays your money and makes your choice, hence Know What You Want.

This thing is an awesome little amp for practice. I cannot believe the tone that comes out of this little box. It’s not very loud which is great for late night or apartment practice plus it runs on a wall outlet power supply (sold seperately) or batteries so you can take it literally anywhere. I have it on the end table in the living room so I can noodle & compose late at night without disturbing my girlfriend. Very nice clean tone. Good crunch tone with classic bite. Killer full out distortion tone. The little box screams! Very pleased with this purchase.

Clear sound and loud enough for a home practice amp. The wireless jack is a really good feature and charges quite quickly. Takes a while to get familiar with all the presets which can be further controlled on the iPhone app. You can balance levels playing along with songs via your phone using Bluetooth quite nicely with the master control. There are some nice effects – flange, wah, sustain etc. that sound quite digitised at times but not that all noticeable really. Overall its quite lightweight, compact and worth the 330 in my opinion. ***Note that the plug supplied with the unit isn’t a 3 pin UK plug but a 2 pin euro one which I had to buy separately. Great small practice amp to use in the living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom etc..
Some small issues in the midi function disconnecting when I try to input too much data through the app via bluetooth. Have to be slow when changing tones or will 100% disconnect bluetooth (which can be frustrating to reconnect)
In all I rate the overall volume, tone, and versatility of this little amp. The product is brilliant – the app however lacks functionality and practicality. Bluetooth audio function has some latency issues, but wont make a difference if you just want to stick on a track and jam or practice over.
In all I wouldn’t reconsider purchasing this amp, it’s actually very good for its size. Little bit pricey for the tone available (I really like a sharp distortion) but is definitely worth a purchase. It’s a strong buy, honestly!!

So I asked for this as a Christmas present. I wanted a portable amp that I can just plug my guitar into. I was making do with my iRig and a speaker wire to a portable speaker. Which is ok but it became slightly frustrating with all the wires.

I have to say that I am absolutely blown away with this little amp. You can get a beautiful rich clean tone. And the distortion tones are truly impressive from such a small amp.

Where as other micro amps can sound tinny, the only way to describe the tone from this amp is similar to that of a full size amp.

As for the volume: this little beast puts out a surprising amount. It’s more that adequate for bedroom/couch jamming.

The line in feature is great. This allows you to plug a line out from your phone/MP3 player and jam along with your favourite tracks.

The tape delay effect adds some colour to your leads lines and works very well indeed

In conclusion this is a fantastic little price of kit. It’s not a toy by any means. So if you’re looking for a portable, high quality practice amp that’s affordable, then I’d highly recommend the Boss Katana Mini

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNeeded a tiny plug in amp for the living room when I’m just noodling about , and too lazy to go upstairs to my valve amps. I was influenced by other reviews that suggested good Quality and sounds. On the whole, I’m not disappointed…. this is a great little practice tool so long as your expectations are realistic. The tones are about as good as you could expect from such a tiny speaker, and this thing is surprisingly loud at 7 watts.
Also handy for running my iPad through to listen to you tube etc. Of course it sounds a bit tinny and waspish wh3n distorting, but the clean sounds are not entirely unpleasant, and with delay on tap, it’s makes for hours of good fun.
Can’t comment on battery life as I’m running this with power supply.
A perfectly good tool for serious musicians to practice with……this is not a toy. Highly recommended.

Bought this little guy to replace a Vox Amplug that broke on me and was intending just to use it with headphones for quiet practice. However, I am blown away by how good it sounds through the tiny speaker. Its sounds way better than I thought it could and it’s so convenient to just sit anywhere and play with out needing a power socket. For comparison I also own a Katana 100 and an Orange Terror. This thing is great. Well played Boss, well played.

I highly rate this. Battery life has been longer then I expected. They said 9 hours I’ve used it more then that before batteries start going.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Katana mini is an actual analog guitar amp with a preamp stage and amplifier stage. Not amp modeling software ran through a digital alarm clock bluetooth speaker type device, like the nux mighty light bt. I really like the versatility and features of the nux mighty light, but it cannot compare to the feel, thick tones and overall sound quality of the katana mini; and the actual sound is whats important here, right? The katana mini is very straightforward and simple. You have 3 channels, 3 eq, and a basic digital delay (and a reverb type effect with delay time set at 0)
Where this thing shines is it’s brown channel and clean channel. The crunch channel leaves much to be desired in my opinion. It’s just light overdrive and lacks sizzle. The clean channel is absolute crystal clear sqeaky clean. Beautiful. Now, the brown channel is very un-clean. Its freaking fantastic. It has that saturated classic metal sound. It makes leads sing and palm mutes growl and chug. It makes me very happy 🙂 Doesnt sound great through headphones though. But the amp does goes very quiet.
You will want a quality power supply or a lot of batteries for this unit as the cheap lightweight psu’s will introduce hiss on the high gain settings. The boss brand psu should be ok. My “onespot” psu was not clean enough and it made hiss. Oddly enough, the psu that came with my nux mighty light is very quiet on the Katana. Multi effects units sound great through the clean channel with gain set at about 10:00 or 11.
I definitely recommend this to new guitarists or any player looking for a small (cheap) portable amp to play on the couch or backyard or whatever. People that bought this expecting it to soung like a $5000 cranked tube head are delusional. For $100, it’s not professional level amplification, but it’s not a disposable toy either… Just buy one and have fun!

A small lightweight practice amp, Boss quality and expertise. Great sounds can be achieved within the settings, it even has a built-in delay. I’d recommend buying a mains adaptor, although you can still get a few hours from good batteries.

I bought this because I wanted to practice with my pedal board without having to set up my 4×12 and head, and it’s been absolutely great so far. I play both spacey blues and very heavy modern metal, and this amp does everything I want. The clean setting sounds great with my pedals, the “brown” setting has huge gain, and there’s always plenty of headroom. Also, for an amp running on AA batteries it can get incredibly loud. I never turn the volume past 12 o’clock. The speaker emulation is great too, I could imagine patching the output into a PA and playing a whole show like that. Definitely recommend picking up the power adapter to save batteries when you’re at home.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersBought this not really believing all the hype but it has proved my speculation to be ill founded . I just can’t believe the sounds that you gan get out of this little box. It’s truly amazing. I even tried my electo/acoustic plugged into and that was mind blowing too. Played clean it sounded pretty much how it sounds unplugged only louder and with more depth. With the gain turned to brown mode and volume turned up I could quite easily sustain a note for ages ala Gary Moore!! It’s certainly not a toy but you could find yourself playing about with it for hours on end. Would highly recommended this piece of kit to anyone. It’s so handy and versatile. For anyone concerned about battery life a transformer is readily available for a tenner or so. But like when you’re driving a performance car you’re not worried about the miles per litre you’re more interested in the smiles per litre. This wee thing certainly brought plenty of smiles to my face and I’ve only had it a day! Brilliant, baby!

I read the various reviews on this little guy and figured it had a 50/50 shoot of being acceptable.
Ive played it with my Schecter USA California custom, My 1970 Les Paul studio, and my most recent acquisition PRS.

I couldn’t be more surprised at how awesome it sounds for what it is. In my case a bedroom practice amp. I thought I was going to be disappointed by the lack of reverb , but basically the “tape delay” is a reverb and little else, so that was great. playing with the gain settings and rolling back or forth a bit on the guitar I was actuallly able to find a sweet spot that it felt like it wanted to {but not quite obviously} resonate like my 5150.
All in all I give this little guy a major 5 stars as a bedroom practice/noodling around amp.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI own a Fender Bassbreaker 15W combo amp – which I absolutely love.
But sometime, you need something small, lightweight and convenient when moving to another room for a bit of sneaky practice, rather than lumping the substantial Fender about.
The reviews of the Boss unit are very good, so I thought it worth a go – and I must admit I’m gobsmacked!

Despite being so small and lightweight, the sound quality is amazing. Clean, crunch and more distorted “brown” setting give great variation. I have a Strat, a Gibson and a Jazz Ibanez and they all sound good.

Nice reverb as well by the way. Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m not an expert. I’ve been playing for two years. This is my second mini practice amp, the other is a Blackstar Fly3.

This little amp sounds very good for the size. It’s louder than the Blackstar (over twice the wattage). The “clean/crunch/brown” switch gives a nice range of tones and it’s got bass/mid and treble controls and a delay function.

    Compared the Blackstar
    Louder
More or less same build quality
Slightly larger but not much, weighs nothing even with batteries
Has a carrying handle (none on the blackstar)
Slightly more versatile range of sounds, but in terms of quality, to my ear, little or no difference.

It’s a nice little amp which I will use for living room or bedroom practice. I have a larger Vox, which sounds better but doesn’t get used much.

Objectively, a very good, small, light portable practice amp. Probably not worth twice the cost of the Blackstar Fly 3 though (43 versus 84).

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersWhat a fantastic practice amp. I have it’s 50watt bigger brother and in comparison where quality of build and sound is concerned they are on a par.
Obviously this doesn’t have massive amounts of effects on board, but it gives lovely clean tones, great dirty tones and excellent delay, there is a switch to select clean, crunch or brown, you then alter the settings using the volume, gain, bass, middle, treble, time and level controls. All of the settings are excellent and no matter what your preferred tone is, you will find it on this amp.
There is an audio input to attach a microphone or allowing you to play a jam track, drum app track or favourite song to play along with from a phone or mp3 player, this input is totally unaffected by any of the controls on the amp, even the volume which is altered using the phone/mp3 players own controls.
There is an output for headphones or recording device i.e. pc, laptop, voice recorder.
It is light and compact and can be carried anywhere when used on batteries, 6x AA batteries required. I haven’t changed mine yet since purchasing this amp and it’s used daily.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis little amp is just great. I just can’t sing it’s praises highly enough. I use it almost every day for practice, and love the range of tones. For a small amp, it’s pretty damned loud! It’s easily got enough grunt to jam with with my mate playing his bass through a 15w Laney RB1. I often play instead of my BlackStar HT5 because I can get the tones I want by flicking between clean, crunch and brown instead of minutes of nob twiddling, and the build in delay is just lush!
I like it so much I’ll be investing it it’s big brother, the Katana Air as soon as it’s available.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersFantastic for a battery powered amp. I got the blackstar fly which is decent but this, my son’s portable amp of choice, does push more air and has better distortion that betrays it’s size and price.

Mind you I’m apparently on the “L’il Wayne pretending to be a rock star” guitarist level and he is, truthfully, a talented wee bugger.
