I just want to share with you a problem I thought was due to the pedal.. I had been using this pedal a few days ago in a studio and was working fine, I then connected it in a different room for a set up i was due to do in a days time so had everything set up ready only to find to my horror the pedal wasn’t working?
I have a Boss adaptor so used that thinking the battery was dead and no the pedal still wasn’t working and thought how can that be it was working the other day checked back here and found out it was a year old so no way returning it now.
I put this problem aside to be sorted and once i was able to spend time with it I suddenly realised i was using the wrong leads linking the pedals, I found i had used stereo leads..
Wondering if that was the problem I quickly found out once i connected the mono cables it was now working.. What a dummy I was..
So just in case anyone gets this problem on the BOSS RC-3 Loop Station Loop Pedal..
Check you haven’t connected with stereo leads before sweating that your pedal is done for…
It might also save a heck load of messing about sending a perfectly fine unit back.

    I had a problem

I have this lads bigger brother for gigging, I just wanted this guy for a mini pedal board I was putting together for a busking setup… As with all boss items, this is bulletproof and intuitive, plenty of recording space….

Good looper with the drums feature is handy to keep time. Doesn’t seem to be an option to globally set drums levels and presets when the power is removed so need to change drums volume and reverb each time unit starts which is bit frustrating. Drums can be started indipendant of the loop.

Menus are fairly easy to navigate – nothing too complicated, fairly responsive. Creating loops very simple and overdubs easy to add and remove. Remember it doesn’t come with a power adapter and the battery will last hardly any time.

Fun practice aid and with the many slots to save loops. Not tried connecting it to a computer yet.

Does everything you need it to do. Sturdy and reliable. I have a minimal board, just a few boosts, wah and tuner. This sits at the end of the chain, I record rhythms and loop them, then work out leads over the top. Perfect.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery impressive build and sound quality. Nice compact size. I have home DIY fitted couple of switches to replace the external footswitches for more control onboard.
    However,
Drums are just start and stop. Please don’t expect any fills, transition, intro or outro. Keeps you on time though. Single loop only. Need to install software in your mac/pc to upload backing tracks, its NOT drag n drop. Also, the file has to be converted to Wav format. Extra hassle, but it is a very handy pedal (recommended) for those who likes to play along backing tracks.
The main thing i dislike is that; when you are clearing a recorded loop, after stop; you press and hold the pedal, at this moment the track plays for about 1-2sec before its cleared. So your crowd may not appreciate that.
Overall its a good pedal, it does OK for my need but i guess the hype is more than what it really does, unless you spend a good fortune on midi controllers. Don’t always go for brand. Get what satisfies your need.

Stunning quality but overhyped for practicality

Been using this pedal as a practice tool. It’s really good and the drum patterns are more than adequate for that purpose. The only criticism I have is the traditional chunky Boss footswitch is not exactly ideal for a looper where I would prefer the reassuring click of the button style found on the RC10r and RC500 rather than the spongy feel you get with the boss pedals. Other than that it’s pretty good, simple to use and takes up virtually no space.

Great quality looper pedal. Doesn’t seem to loose any sound quality no matter how many overdubs. Battery life doesn’t seem to last that long and it’s controls are a bit fiddly. But the more you use it the easier it gets. Looping is very easy it’s just other settings that are forgetful.
Would recommend as a basic good quality looper.

Ok if you specically need a single pedal, but I realised after just 10 minutes I wanted/needed the additional features and easier operation of the twin pedal rc30, so returned and got the rc30 instead.

Like all Boss pedals, this is built to last. Very sturdy construction and I’d expect it to last for years. As with any looper, it takes a bit of practice to get the timing right but once you’ve got that down it’s very easy to use. A great practice tool.

  26. Michael Bizzaco says:

It does what you expect. The multiple memory locations are good to store works in progress.
Only thing I dislike is that the drum beat does not transfer with the rest of your creations when pulling down to a computer.
Need to watch the timing when starting a loop but you quickly realize you have to start on the 1st beat.

Its a bit a step up in price from the classic RC1 but it is so packed with extra features it should be the better buy for most players. With enough functions to take you from your first bedroom strums though to gigging the RC3 should become a staple on every pedal board. And like all boss pedals built to last.

    Like:
-You can connect it to your computer and store backing tracks.
-Lots of functionality. Bit of a learning curve but it’s simple once you’ve used it a few times.

    Dislike:
-It didn’t come with any cables -no power or USB cable.
I realize this seems to be a standard approach with pedals, however when I pay for something of this price and quality, I expect it to come with a power supply and USB cable.

As an amateur guitarist I just wanted to mess around with Looping. This is a great pedal – really strong, really intuitive and easy to use and does exactly what the spec says. The battery it came with ran out quickly (but it only claims in instructions to be for testing anyway) so budget for a new battery when you buy it (or the AC adapter not included). Memory is great – 80 approx. tracks can be saved and you have about 10/12 pre saved rythmns on there too to jam along to.
Need to be careful as no off switch – so could blow amp or run battery down – but read instructions about taking out the jack (which acts as on/off) and you’ll be fine
You can rig it as stereo or mono depending on your cables but this means you can also use one channel to run a mic and one for the guitar for looping voice & instrument separately – which is great fun when you start out.
    Highly recommended

Small learning curve to use the pedal from no experience with loopers, and would heavily recommend reading the instruction booklet if you’re not already familiar with the full functionality of this pedal. Extra functionality on top of the RC-1’s are way worth the extra price (I only paid 10 extra). Internal metronome is very useful.

I have been using boss pedals for over 20 years now and never had an issue with them. Value for money does not seem to be that attractive anymore compared to some of the cheaper offerings, but with the boss pedals you know they will stand up against time and abuse. If you are only using this for practice and want to save money you might as well go for one of the cheaper options, but if you want reliability and using your pedals for professional gigs, Boss is the way to go.

Great pedal as always from Boss. Bought a skinny little twin pedal to go with mine as I don’t like one button doing 3 things. The looped tone is slightly different than the played tone but only slightly.

This is obviously pretty much a standard pedal and whilst it is expensive it is a pretty quality product.

It is really easy to set up loops.

It has about 10 rhythms which are not programmable in any way, but you can change the tempo.

You can’t alter the speed of the loops.

I think the sound output can be noisy and it doesn’t come with any power lead which is pretty standard but annoying for beginners.

Does the job but I was underwhelmed in a couple of places.

outwardly simple, awesomely capable, easy to use, tried, tested (and explained in video)
absolutely does what I wanted it to.
As it comes, straight out of the box, absolutely bewildering (I’m old, prone to bewilderment)
But, if you change the out of the box set up, as shown in online video’s, it behaves as you would expect.
Thereafter, the only limitation is you.
(and for me, that’s a fair old limitation)
Lovely toy, behaves as expected (after modification)
    sound is wonderful.
    love it.

I did try recording my own backing track with mixed success, but it is simple to upload commercially available music. The file format must be ‘wav’ but anything can be used. I have some Boss created tracks and some from the internet. Recording and overdubbing is easy, but it is not possible to move between tracks using the pedal, that must be done with small buttons on the unit which is a minor inconvenience. Hooking up to a PC is simple and the freely available Boss Tone Studio simplicity itself. Tempo changing is a real bonus so as your playing improves, you can speed up the backing.
