I deliberately got this to replace the kettle i bought no too long ago (before 1st energy hike). Boils 250mls in a few seconds. Water tastes absolutely fine, nice and hot.

This was brought for an elderly person with arthritis, it’s simple enough for her to now obtain just a quick cup of boiling water now without having to lift a kettle now

Disclaimer It’s for my other half.

I think it’s bigger than it should be – it takes quite a bit of surface space – it serves one cup of hot water at a simple press of the button.

Simple to use & fairly easy to clean so it’s an okay from me

There is nothing to dislike about this unit, we have it stood next to a smaller unit, we bought this one first, however, we found that by buying the second unit, I could use this one for my larger mug, and the wife could use the smaller one for her smaller mug, we use them both together and as I said about the smaller one, we only really need to top them up once a day. I have also found that with this model, I can make the gravy for Sunday dinner for the two of us which is fantastic. A great piece of kit thank you Breville and thank you Amazon for having this in your online shop.

Purchased due to arthritis so no fear of spilling boiling water. Still trying to cup size adjustment, this will happen. Only slight downside is the magnetic dip tray, magnet not very effective (quite a few people made same comment in their reviews)

I love my fast boil kettle. I had one before but gave it to my Mum as I didn’t want her burning her hands on the general kettle. It was a different style. This one has a great opening so easy to refill without lifting the kettle. You can control the measurements more. I use it when I just want one clip of coffee. I find the temperature fine, not super hot, but hot enough for me. The drip tray could be bigger and it is a tad on the noisy side but that was the same as my last one. Great design and easy to clean. Overall very happy.

I can’t fault the look of this one cup kettle. The water is piping hot . My last one cup letter gave me very warm water but I was forever heating it back up. On the top where you fill it I find it stiff to lift the lid off the top to fill so we don’t have it tight closed. It’s just great. You won’t be disappointed

This is really good. I’ve had the Breville One Cup for 9 years (yes 9 years, making 6-7 drinks a day) the only reason for replacing was due to leaking. I decided to go for this model as I wanted a larger water capacity. The HotCup cannot be filled directly from the tap as it is not really designed for moving about the kitchen. I use a jug which is adequate. It takes approx 42 seconds to boil a mug of water, the water temperature is approx 83 degrees which is hot enough for tea, coffee, gravy granules etc. It has a auto shut off when the mug is filled, so great for turning on and leaving whilst you do other things. I recommend this, ideal for a single person or couple, for larger households I would suggest a proper kettle.

Arrived early well packaged nice styled unit. Bought to replace old one that was starting to leak.
Would have given five stars but the first time we used it the unit leaked very slightly which other reviewers also noted.
It only happened the once though and we’ve used it numerous times since without issue.
It is also very efficient boiling water very quickly.
Overall a great product and would recommend

Upgraded from a smaller one that still works, this one is much quieter and puts that little more in the cup, easier to fill than the kettle type although you need a jug to fill it up in reality.
The cup stand works great on the higher level, but seems to be free standing and moves around for the mug style cup. I put a bit of blue tack behind it and no problem now. in a few words “I like it” 🙂

I like most things about this it’s easy to refill and only has 2 buttons but for someone who has large cups I wish the setting for that was better. So the highest filling setting only fills up basic cups so I have to do it twice to full most of my large mugs. It does only take about 15-20 secs to boil and pour. I wouldn’t go back to a kettle now as this is nicer and easier.

I had the original Hot Cup, which had just the one set dispensing amount of water. I prefer this newer one, as you can set it depending on the size of cup you’re using. It’s a little bit of trial an error, but doesn’t take long to get the hang of it. If you’ve underestimated the amount of water to be dispensed, and your cup is about to overfill, you can always stop it using the X button. Very easy to fill with water and unit lights up when in use.

Variable dispenser is quite precise, so use a large mug to begin with, so that you can gauge it right. Very quick to boil for a cuppa, or to fill a small pan – much quicker than putting it on the hob from cold. Very pleased with it.

The Breville Hot Cup was much better then I was expecting, I wasn’t sure if it would fill my cups with the variable dispense option, as I had read many other brands didn’t and required a second push and further time waiting. I needn’t of worried fills my cups perfectly, dispenses just the right amount everytime, is quick and easy and obviously energy efficient only boiling exactly what you need. I’ve had no odd tastes that others have complained about. Definitely the perfect product for me, I only fill it with water from my Brita filter which I hope will prevent problems that others have reported in terms of it getting furred up and then not dispensing the correct amount.

A previous Breville model worked reliably for 10 years.
This model is a sleeker design.
You have to fill with a jug or bottle, the Water container / kettle part is non detachable.
The drip tray is for drips only, barely any capacity to catch any overflow.
(The old drip tray was much larger)
The water is hotter than the old design but not quite boiling.
Overall pleased, if you want a quick single cup of tea or coffee without boiling a whole kettle this is ideal.
    Dispense time approx 25 seconds.

Pity the water tank is not removable. (Other cheaper model has smaller capacity but removable tank) but I like the large capacity and adjustable volume. If you use a water filter jug then the non removable task is unlikey to be an issue.

The Breville Hot Cup is (to me) a lot better than using a kettle, if you buy a jug, fill it with tap water. and purchase filters, fit the filter inside the jug to purify the water, honestly the coffee taste a lot better. And, it must be better for our stomachs.

I do like a hot water dispenser this is the best one I have bought , it takes a little if u have different sized cups to know what setting to put it on .
The one bonus is the stop button which was the reason why o bought this one this time around .
I come down putt coffee and sugar in cup put it under take my meds then my coffee is done love it .
Pros – energy saving ,only boils what u need . Has a stop button . Multiple cup settings .large cap tank .

Cons – u have to fill with a jug as the tank isn’t detachable .takes a little time to figure which setting I need .

    Really quite pleased with this.

My husband and I are disabled and can’t pick up heavy kettles so this is ideal for us.

It boils just the amount of water required. You choose the amount you need and set the number on the top of the machine. It boils very quickly, much quicker than a kettle. And safer too.

The only thing I think could be better is how the cup stand fixes. It could hold firmer but this is a minor issue.

This model VKT124 is so easy to use no problems at all over the past few months useage. I bought it as my husband has bad arthritis in his hands and wrists so lifting a kettle was becoming increasingly dangerous. I had read in some reviews that the hot drinks left a “funny taste” so was a bit concerned but we have not experienced this. As long as you run the hot water through a few times initially to clear the new machine taste away then you have a super little hot water dispenser that heats up only what you need for one hot cup at a time and that’s good enough for the two of us. If we have a number of people visiting, the normal kettle comes out for quickness, no problem at all. I would definitely recommend this model.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo, this was bought for my mum who now has issues with her shoulders and elbows, and has had issues picking the kettle up, so myself and my sister bought this for her, and she is more than satisfied with it. the initial issue was that she was picking a kettle up with boiling water in it and ofcourse burns could have been inflicted if dropped, now she just need to fill this up with cold water, and if she was to drop the water, it’s cold so no burns can be inflicted. it is recommended.

    very user friendly

Great for making any hot drink. Quick and easy to use. Only one tiny, minor complaint ( but it really isn’t too bad) is that it splashes very slightly as it dispenses the water. I would recommend this product and may get another one for the office.

This is the third one brought. The first two have lasted about 4 years each which is about what you can expect from modern appliances. Every one has paid for itself by saving unnecessary electricity used by boiling a kettle for just one or two cups of tea/coffee. Recommended, save yourself some money.

On whole I like this Hotcup. It’s less bulky than my previous machine, easy to fill. I’ve always filled my kettles from filtered Water Jug, if you wanted to fill from tap then it would be an issue as its one unit, not separate base.
The Hotcup heats quick and water is steam Hot (not check temp but certainly no issue with being hot enough to make a proper cuppa. )
The variable water range is helpful compared to other model’s that fixed, it goes from 150ml to 300ml approx. This is where my only real bug bare lies, I love a large cup Tea, and this falls a bit short of complete fill of my mug. If went up to 350mls this would give more flexibility as a lot travel mugs are also larger, either 500 or 750ml typically so at least 2 fills would do.
The fact the drip tray is easily moved is a plus, allows bit space to fit under a larger jug. I also have a disabled relative who wouldn’t manage to lift the weight of a mug but can slide one away from the Hot cup over to a space to sit and drink. The advantage of these over kettles for disabled people with limited arm / hand use or strength is in that the Hot cup is easy to start and it doesn’t need lifting to pour so if kept topped up then they can at least make drink independently as desired.

Brings water to correct drinkable temperature for coffee, tea, etc, in very short time and heats smaller quantity so energy saving. Amount dispensed can be varied and stopped at any point. Was amazed to discover how variable the volume of my mugs are, so sometimes have to heat extra to fill larger mugs – not a problem as heats so rapidly. Great for making instant gravy, hot chocolate etc which needs stirring. Bought because our rapid boil kettle was too noisy in our kitchen diner. It is quieter and operates for much shorter time. Very happy with my purchase.

I’ll be honest, we’ve had ‘one cup’ machines for years and on the whole they’re brilliant.
This one I have a few niggles with (some are just daft).
For a start it’s not shiny as per the picture, it’s silver plastic.
If you want to fill it up you either have to unplug it and take it to the tap or fill a jug.
Whilst filling it up you need to keep one eye on the level indicator and your other on the water you’re pouring – to make sure it’s going in the appliance rather than all over the floor – in all honesty it’s easier to get someone to help you. So from a design perspective it’s pretty poor compared to others I’ve owned.
Aesthetically….. well as I’ve said already, it just reminds me of a prop from Stargate.
Putting that little lot aside, it does produce hot water – just not sure it’s actually boiling water.

We love our Breville hiccup and it quickly and easily makes a nice got brew. Great for my tween-ager too as she can make her own drink without having to lift a heavy kettle. One tiny thing we found is that it doesn’t seem to stay red hot for long so as long as you make your drink and drink it straight off you’ll be Great!

The Coffee and Tea has a horrible taste.

I have been filling, boiling and emptying water out to see if this taste will fade away with use. Disgusting!

    Update:

The bad taste has cleared. If you purchase this you may to boil and empty it several times. Fill it with water overnight. Then Boil and empty.

The stand the cups sit on is very loose. I say this on a youtube review before I purchased this, however you may want to look these videos up yourself before making a purchase.

I am changing my review from 2 starts to 4 only because, of its speed in boiling water, the electric power use reduction ( boils one cup at a time ), money saving potential and benefit to the environment it provides.

Read a lot of reviews as I like a large cup of tea and many of these products don’t do a big enough measure – I am not disappointed. Largest setting gives 300ml of boiling water in 40 seconds.
Had planned to have this as well as a kettle – 2 days in and the kettle has gone! Great machine, there was a slight tang to the first cup but simply flushed through a few more times and taste has gone.

I don’t get people who pay over a 1000 for boiling water on tap. 95% of time we need boiling water it’s for a tea or coffee and in a few seconds this does the job for under 60
The variable cup size works well .
I have not experienced the plastic taste but I know taste bud sensitivity varies
However if you have a problem fill it up
and add either 2 spoons of baking powder or 1/2 cup of wine vinegar or lemon juice , leave overnight and empty and rinse.

We had the original Breville single boil kettle for yrs, it was great. Good as it was it was a monster sitting on the work top.

I switched from a kettle, requiring a minimum water lever of 0.6ltr, to this. Mainly to avoid waste but also because putting water in the kettle (for 1) every morning is so tedious. I absolutely love this machine. You fill it with around 1-2 ltrs and each morning just press the button and walk away. It’s a fast brew and only boils the water required. I totally recommend it.

After much perseverance I have now had this for 16 months and it is still working perfectly. This is my 3rd VKT111 having had to return the first and 2nd purchases as faulty. The first stopped working correctly within a month when regardless of cup size selected it only dispensed half a cup. I returned it and ordered a replacement which arrived cracked and was duly returned, the 3rd arrived in perfect condition and has been problem free. I was dubious about ordering a 3rd replacement but I am so pleased I persisted. Having now been in constant use for over a year I am happy to give a good review and recommend this model – providing you are lucky and receive a perfect one first time.

With the sudden onset of carpal tunnel syndrome and after twice nearly dropping a boiling kettle I settled on this as a safety measure. Takes no more room than the kettle and will certainly continue to use it when the condition improves, if ever. Hopefully in time I might be able to use both. For making a single cup of tea or coffee it’s faster than the kettle and if you need to top up to refresh a half drunk cuppa the controls cope well.

Lovely machine bought for my mother in law for Christmas. Perfect for her. We use a larger model for our family and they really are a great idea. This one sort of boils the water a little like a kettle as it comes through the pipes. But dispenses different size cups and saves her lifting a kettle, where as ours boils as it goes. So is instant boiling water and only a set amount. One draw back I’ve found with this machine is it tends to really spit out the water at first which ends up with rather hot water being spat around the machine rather than in the cup. Make sure you put the adjustable base up to the filling bit when the cup is in to ensure no one gets burnt.

I’m visually impaired and using this water dispenser is really easy. Initially its trial and error using the dial to see how much water is poured into the cup, so that it doesn’t overspill, but once you know that there isn’t a problem. I got this so I don’t need to pour and potentially overspill. Water comes out quickly and it makes a lovely cuppa.

My only gripe is that it was a present and was delivered with no packaging, just in its own box, so when the delivery was taken we knew exactly what it was.

Fill it up ( with jug easiest), adjust to fit cup size, press the button, 60 secs later quietly delivers very hot water. Its that easy. Plenty of adjustment for cup size and volume but in reality just left alone dial on full fills large cup or 2 cup cafetire, time and time again. Difficult to fault after two months of use. Looks ok too just sitting on top prettily urging to be used. If you really must read the instructions they are easy to follow – almost talking to you as you go. price competitive – 10 less than John Lewis too.

I have a 3 year old. I rarely manage to boil a kettle and then use the hot water on top of my tea bag as get distracted…and end up reboiling the kettle. Having the hot cup means my tea bag at least gets hot water on it…and I’m now drinking herbal tea more to stop a stewed tea bag. No problem with funny taste. I ran through a few tanks before I first used it, and if I feel the water has sat too long I just empty the machine out. I also don’t fill to top if I’m not in a tea mood. To put hot water in pan just take the cup rest off and do a few presses….tho a kettle is easier in this case.
I’m the only tea drinker in the house so works for me…with guests it’s a little more faff…but once it’s warmed up it’s faster than the initial cup.
Takes a little more space but I love not having to point the kettle spout away from the underside of my cupboards.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI HAVE HAD ANOTHER VERSION OF THIS HOT WATER DISPENSER FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, UNTIL IT BROKE DOWN. THIS ONE WORKS IN A SIMPLE AND EASY WAY. YOU SET THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU WANT IN THE CUP, PRESS THE BUTTON AND IN A SHORT SPACE OF TIME, YOU HAVE A HOT DRINK.
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE FOR ME IS THIS. IN THE PICTURES THIS MACHINE LOOKS LIKE IT IS CHROME/SILVER.IN FACT IT IS A SILVERY GREY PLASTIC. NOT SHINY OR CHROME……

I bought this to replace my previous one cup which had split the plastic at the rear seam. Unlike other reviewers I have no issue with taste having followed the instructions to pour away the first few contents. No spilling issues , although the adjustable height has just two option high or low. This version is larger than my previous version and the option to adjust and stop the water means that all of my mugs and cups are back in use. I find the easy fill returns my independence as lifting a boiling kettle was too difficult and dangerous for me even with a small amount of water. Great product, very easy to use.

This saves so much electricity, by only boiling what you need, not a kettle full. I am a little disappointed with the variable quantity as there are a lot of settings but it only dispenses 3 amounts. The cup height adjuster is fiddly and not easy to get it to stay in place, the magnet could do with being stronger. It serves the purpose for me though and saves having to lift a heavy kettle as I am disabled. Would still recommend it, but don’t expect an infinite variation on the water quantity and you won’t be disappointed.

It took a couple of weeks and a quite few wash through of the unit to get rid of the brand new plastic type taste, possibly that comes from the tubes being used in the unit. However not every gets this with their unit but if you do it is worth sticking with as it will vanish eventually. As for the device I cant ever imagine going back to a kettle now as this is so easy to use, just stick your cup underneath and press the button. Initially I couldn’t see the difference between this and the black version that is also for sale but then realised this one has a dial for setting the amount of water that is dispersed which I wouldn’t do without now. So apart from the initial bad taste I cant fault this unit and would purchase again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI like this as I struggle to hold a sometimes full kettle due to arthritis, I find it so much better than a normal kettle , drinks are good and hot, just keep filling it up with a lightweight measuring jug. The only negative is the adjustable height platform , that fell off when raised high with very hot water spilling. I just keep it on the lower level as this suits all sizes. Despite this I still think it’s really good buy, plus more economical as you boil just what you need.

We have found none of the problerms that some have reported.
No plastic taste or smell even from the first water that was boiled.
The quantity of water varies reliably from about half a mug to a full mug of tea. If you have a giant mug then be prepared to press a button twice.
The drip try is a bit silly as it has two postions both held in place by a weak magnet arrangement.
    Otherwise an excellent investment.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis was a lovely item and I was really pleased with it when it arrived but then found I had made the mistake of not reading that you had to use a jog to fill it which was not suitable for me due to where it is located in my kitchen. Although this is not a major problem, I wanted one which you could fill like a kettle at the tap so returned it and got another one which I can fill at the tap. Otherwise I would recommend this item as it was very nice and does what, you need it to do.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving had a couple of similar appliances, I chose this one because it seemed to have everything the others lacked, like variable cup size and big water tank. I like it, it is very convenient, the magnetic, dual position cup holder is great in the raised position but not so great I lower position as it moves. The water temperature is not quite as hot as I would like it but it is okay if I drink the coffee straight away! This is the only reason I dropped a star, I read all of the reviews and it seemed the water temperature was fine for most people so I guess I like my coffee particularly hot. I still prefer the convenience over a normal kettle.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery convenient way of boiling water for one!
Appliance is neat on the counter top. I do like the cup selection size, with auto stop to save you standing whilst it pours and this was an important feature for me! The drip tray is a waste of time though, it’s a bit flimsy on the tallest setting; albeit easy to remove. This is the only reason I gave it four rather than five stars.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersExcellent hot water dispenser and by reading instructions manual makes it very easy to use. I’ve only used it Friday when it arrived at 1pm- and up until early hours of Sunday morning. I experienced an excellent addition to my kitchen, and only use a jug now to fill it up. Its a very good item much better than using a kettle to pour boiling water. First I just cleaned it as per instructions. I do love to use it and I love drinking tea and cappucinos. and it is so fast and easy to use, better than any kettle. Just fill to MAX turn dial to the amount your cup or mug holds and then press start button, wait approx. 30seconds, for it to boil and it turns off automatically and then the water dispenses making for a lovely cuppa no noisier than a kettle but faster. No steam to burn nor scald from the spout which it hasn’t got like a kettle. I would say its one of the best things I’ve bought for a long time for my kitchen or own personal use and if a family member or friend pops in, its great… I can have a lovely cappuccino or cup of tea as often as I like. It looks expensive, but against all odds I chose this one as it matches my dcor and looks cool in my kitchen and has now become my favourite in boiling water as I did before, in my kettle it took 2 minutes to boil one boiling for one cup/mug. That’s a waste of money whereas the water dispenser is cheaper and quicker.
