Once you know how to make the coffee it’s very easy, but a friend of mine who has one had to show me, and a few tricks as she used to be a barista. Heat is great for the coffee and very tasty. Would highly recommend if you wanted more of a fresh coffee that’s easy to make and doesn’t take long to do.
Was in the process of replacing and returning when worked out the problem of the system auto powering off 5 seconds after turning on (as per video). This is an auto function that happens if the unit is powered on with the steam button ( P3) also pressed in. To resolve literally just ensure that the steam button is not pressed in when power on. I see others have repeatedly returned units due to this which is not actually a fault. Would be good if the instructions covered this auto off function anywhere including in the troubleshooting table. Would also help if Amazon support had this noted against the unit for troubleshooting
Makes a gorgeous coffee. Only negative is that it’s slightly noisier than my previous machine
After buying 2 Dedicas and having issues with them I returned and got this one. Best decision. It beats it hands down. Easy to use. The milk wand works and doesn’t fly off.
I bought this machine in December 2020. It has been used about 5 times a day and has never missed a beat.
My tips:
Fine ground espresso can block the single tiny hole. I now use Morrisons Italian style ground coffee, very well tamped down with the DeLonghi steel press. This has a good taste and crema and never blocks the pourer.
IF the machine turns 4 seconds after switching on it is because the steam button is still pressed.
Enjoy.
Love our coffee machine it’s used for 2 cups of coffee 2-3 times a day. Had to purchase espresso cups separately as the coffee out put nozzle is fairly tight on size. We’ve had to descale our twice already past 9 months but then it’s used a lot. Loots lovely and easy/quick to use
Some coffee granules though are to coarse for the water to filtrate through
This was a present for the other hald, he is so happy with it. Produces ‘the best coffee I’ve ever had’. Customer services were also really helpful when we had a problem. Only used the steamer once so far, but was very effective.
As a former barista I definitely recommend
This machine makes a lovely cup of coffee , it is easy to clea
This coffee machine is a bargain at the warehouse price. Couldn’t see any marks or damage – just a new machine. Makes great coffee and very easy to use.
This is my first espresso machine and it does exactly what I need it to do.
You get a good crema on the coffee and frothy up the milk well. Simple to use, not much to get wrong.
You might struggle if you’re making coffee for a group, unless they all want a single espresso.
I think the machine has a simple design and makes great coffee and is easy to use. Perfect nachine for the price! Perhaps my only remark is that the water collecting tray is bit flimsy and rattles a lot when making coffee. Overall, quclity of the materials is not bad.
Bought to replace identical model we had for 6 years. Once you understand how to use it great coffee
This machine heats up quickly and produces a good cup of coffee quickly. Easy to clean and looks good.
Researched a lot of machines before purchasing, this is really great. No regrets there!
I use it daily and was not even a big coffee drinker previously! It is very easy to clean. Heats up quickly. I live with a coffee lover and they love each and every espresso or cappuccino and comment on the quality every single time. wE grind our own beans, this machine also allows you to use pods too.
Well done Delonghi!
It looks great and of high quality standard.
We have purchased glasses to go with it and they rest perfectly on top of the machine in order to be pre-heated.
First off I don’t use the frother so I will just concentrate on the coffee part.
I have had my machine which is well built and oozes quality for 2.5 years and I think it is brilliant. I have had a couple of issues which I found easy to fix or work around.
1. Not hot enough ie green light to say water is hot goes out. This was a small problem and I get round this by pre warming my cup with boiling water and just fill to full ignoring the green light. It is plenty hot enough.
2. Not delivering coffee this happens if the coffee filter pod has become blocked (I think it happened to me on a specific espresso blend) I was at my wits end. This is easy to sort out if you leave the pod soaking in a little slightly diluted vinegar for a day or two. Problem has not returned since.
Please note we live in a soft water part of the country so have no experience of how limescale can affect these machines.
Got an Amazon warehouse model, which had a tiny scratch, but otherwise perfect. This is a boiler machine, Vs the newer thermoblocks. What this means in practice is a slower start while waiting for the water to heat up, and then also a few pauses if you’re doing an americano , as the hot water will run out a few times. Enough hot water for one espresso between pauses.
A thermoblock on the other hand heats the water in real time, like an electric shower.
All that said, I like it. It makes lovely coffee. Not sure I’d pay full price though.
If you’re not in a rush, this is a great little machine.
Wow, there are some scathing reviews of this coffee machine! So I’m writing this to give some perspective. I bought mine in 2017 and have used it pretty much everyday since.
Bottom line: it makes a great quality coffee for the price point. I’ve used more expensive ‘auto’ machines that cost twice as much which don’t come close. However, you do need to spend a bit of time understanding how to get the best out of it.
Some things that I found helped me:
-buy pre ground coffee for espresso machines, I use Lavazza gold, the ground needs to be moist. Multi purpose ground coffee that can be a bit drier do not work well and you end up with a weak and tasteless coffee
-don’t be tempted to overfill the coffee, if you do it causes the water flow to slow down during extraction and the coffee isn’t as strong as it should be, so weirdly a bit less coffee makes for a stronger espresso!
-use a large steaming jug, the frother pipe is designed for idiot-proof cappuccinos which it does great. If you want to make a flat white you need to keep the milk swirling to create micro foam instead, a larger jug helps to do this and it takes a bit of practice
-only switch it on when you need it! This is not an appliance you leaved turned on. It actually turns itself off if you leave it on too long. It also auto-turns off if you try to switch it on with either the pump or steam button pushed in!
-when you’re steaming milk the light will go off half way during steaming but the pressure stays high enough to finish the job, you do not need to stop mid way to let the steam build back up again
The good points:
-It’s super easy to use once you find your way with it
-It makes a creamy and full bodied espressos with the right type and amount of coffee
-The frother is easy to use and can make rich foam or micro foam with practice
-For the price point it’s superb value for money and feels solid and well built, mine is still going strong 3+ years in
-the water tank is huge and will do at least 4 cups without refilling
The not so good points:
-The frother pipe needs stripping down and careful cleaning on a regular basis as milk gets trapped inside the parts, leave it too long and it gets nasty and ruins your milk
-The auto switch off will annoy you if you forget and leave the coffee or steam buttons pushed in, it took me a while to figure out!
-You can’t fit a tall cup under the coffee head, I use shot glasses instead which is also a good aid to time the extraction right, about 30-35 seconds
Perfect starter coffee machine, bought as a Christmas gift with some hesitation after seeing mixed reviews.
Had nothing to worry about, machine is easy to work, makes great coffee and has no flaws so fa
I bought the Scultura on the strength of Which reviews (very good, best buy etc.). My previous machine was a Gaggia Baby which expired at 19 years old. Firstly the Scultura looks great and is easy to fill with water. The portafilter is narrower than the Gaggia and therefore a bit more difficult to fill. If you fully fill the portafilter and compress the grains firmly the pump is not powerful enough and the flow peters out after a small expresso has been made. Slightly underfilling and not compressing too hard seems to work best. The pump and boiler both seem underpowered compared with Gaggia but use a lot less electric… The quality of the expresso though is very good with the tricky little de’longhi portafilter. If making Cappuccino you have to wait a liitle while for the machine to be “steam ready” because of the low powered boiler. But this is ok because the machine makes very hot expresso. Foaming the milk is trickier than with the Gaggia wand and its easy to end up with creamy “flat white” milk rather than Cappuccino foam, but I think practice will make perfect.
All in all this is an “ok” machine but I think I may live to regret not investing the 450 needed to buy a Gaggia Classic (todays equivalent of the 1990’s Gaggia baby….
I love it, it makes a variety of coffees and haven’t found anything I don’t like about it.
Works well as an expresso machine, need to remove the drip trays to be able to fit a mug under it though. Makes good coffee, heats up reasonably quick, and steamer works okay.
All the stainless steel scratches very easily, so doesn’t looks like new after a few months of use. Could be improved with the addition of a hot water outlet, a timer for how long the expresso is brewing. Water can drip from expresso fountain whilst using the steamer also whilst off too.
This coffee machine is really easy to use and clean and importantly makes a really decent, authentic cup of cafe grade coffee. Super quick to heat up to ready temperature and the very easy to lock and load. I used cafertieres and stove top coffee makers before but this takes it to the next level. Highly recommended.
Bought this as a Christmas present for my husband having read the reviews on here and on the Which site too. Can’t fault it! And it makes the best coffee too!
Easy to use ,a bit of practice makes beautiful coffee
Produces delicious coffee, with an excellent crema. Feasible to make a flat white style coffee with the milk wand. Coffee is hot when machine is warmed properly.
First machine purchased was faulty, however, Amazon replaced the machine, quickly and easily with excellent customer service.
I love it so much that I’ve just sketched it!
Not bought from amazon warehouse before, but this was Well worth the money. Can’t spot the imperfections. Works a dream. Looks great too.
Good value for money however not the best build quality but still stylish.
I have been honestly blown away how good this machine is. There are other machines out there, cheaper more expensive etc. but for mid price range you can’t go wrong with this.
I have used other De’Longhi machines and didn’t rate them but thought I would give this one a go and I am glad I did.
I use it to make my espresso, my wife’s hot chocolate, my mother in law’s cappuccino, my father in laws Latte and to warm my kids milk up, it is super versatile and easy to clean.
Go for it, you can’t go wrong.
Its small but looks very well and makes great coffee. The steamer is also very powerful and froths the milk great.
It will only take small mugs to max 70mm height. This is worth keeping in mind. I ended up buying mugs and a milk jug from here. The rear water container holds a lot of water and is easy removed or refilled as is.
4 stars as the fist one I got was faulty. Leaking water a lot but Amazon were great to fully replace it quickly at no cost to me. First class service there on Amazons front.
I am writing this review to clarify an issue that some of the customers are experiencing where the machine shuts off immediately after being turned on. This is NOT faulty behavior. If the frother button is not off and you want to turn on the machine, as a security measure it will go off automatically! You need to turn off the frother to be able to turn on the machine. Only then you can turn the frother on.
YOU ARE WELCOME!
Lovely machine. Thick crema layer. Hot hot hot coffee. Really pleased with it.
This produces good coffee without fuss. I use it with ESE pods that are convenient and mess-free. This is my second Scultura machine – the first one lasted just less than 4 years and the De’Longhi I had before that that also lasted about 4 years. I don’t know how this compares with other makes but I think it should be longer lasting. I think that the part that has failed is an electro-magnetic valve but I don’t fancy trying to change it and I doubt that having the machine professionally repaired would be economic.
My first review and it will be brief. As a Barista who works at Costa I am very impressed.
Pros:
– Compact design.
– Metal exterior.
– Quality Espresso extraction.
– Impressivley powerful steam arm.
– Large water reservoir.
– ‘Auto-off’ functionality, to save power.
– User-friendly instructions.
Cons:
– May be a bit fiddly to understand when the machine is ready to extract the espresso/the steam arm is ready to steam, but I seemed to get it right after a few tries.
Notes:
– If it keeps turning off, make sure the steam arm button is not engaged, else it will refuse to heat up.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of this machine for the price, I’ve made flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos just fine. Worth the purchase.
Great coffee maker easy to use and makes a lovely wee coffee.
Very happy with this product, easy to use and work with
This coffee machine is easy to use and makes really delicious coffee. The milk frother is a bit of a pain to clean but as we don’t tend to use it that doesn’t matter. The espresso comes out a little frothy giving the coffee a really professional look – might as well be in a coffee shop!
I am pleased with both the product and the timely delivery
I AM DELIGHTED WITH THIS ITEM AND I THANK THE SELLER FOR THE SWIFT DISPATCH AND THE CAREFUL PACKING – THE MACHINE IS CLEANER THAN IT WAS WHEN IT WAS MADE IT SEEMS SO I’M CHUFFED TO BITS – WISH IT HAD THE OWNER MANUAL BUT PERHAPS I’LL FIND IT ONLINE AND DON’T THINK IT’S ROCKET SCIENCE EITHER.
SO POSSIBLY THE BEST EVER PURCHASE I HAVE EVER HAD SO THANK YOU SELLER
CHRISTOPHER
Good machine i use pre grounded coffee espresso blend. Haven’t tried with a coffee grinder yet. Overall very satisfied with this machine.
I have been using this for over a month and have enjoyed the beautiful coffee it makes. The machine is ready in about one and a half minutes. The downsides are: small size of the cup tray (however it can be removed to accommodate bigger mugs), and the steam wand leaking whenever the machine is on. Nothing huge but worth leaving a container under the wand to prevent your counter from ‘flooding’ over time. For some reason the water steamed through the wand for an americano tastes strange even after flushing it thoroughly.
Overall, a product that makes great tasting coffee and I give it 4 stars because it gives a lot of freedom for the entry-level quality and price. I was hard pressed to find a better machine at the time for the price.
Bought this for fathers day for my husband from our daughter. He absolutely loves it. So great that you can use ground coffee and pods depending om what you fancy & froth up the milk. Fantastic product good value for money.
Had to re-order as first one had a leaky valve on the water tank but it’s really nice, looks great, not huge so doesn’t take up too much space. It is very stiff to use at first but that soon loosens. It takes a little while to get used to using it…..still not quite mastered it though I can now make an amazing froth……had to you tube a tutorial for lessons though.
Bought this as it was exactly like our other one and that lasted years, very easy to use and makes nice coffee.
I bought this during lockdown and can honestly say it is easy to use easy to clean and makes a fantastic latte we don’t think we will be going back to the long queue in Costa when you can make your own the frother on the side is outstanding I am now barista!
