I am really happy with the product product, it’s really good quality
This drill absolutely sails through everything I mostly use a 7mm multi bit and rarely do I have to put it onto hammer just the drill action alone is seriously impressive, it’s one of those things you didn’t realise you were missing until you’ve got it 😀 makes life a lot easier when you’ve got the right tools for the job, there’s only a small cost difference between the models below this one but the extra torque this has for the small price difference would be silly not to get the better drill honestly, great bit of kit best drill I’ve owned
I’ve got a few drills but found them all a bit underpowered when it came to cutting holes into metal, something I’ve needed to do lately. So I bought this and wow, did it do the job. Its so powerful I had a job to keep it from turning round. But it cut through metal like butter and I’m pretty sure it’ll do the same for any other material. It is a bit heavy but also sturdy. Highly recommended.
This is an all rounder, pop a 4ah battery on it and it will take off……
I’m so pleased I went for this model over the lower torque drill/drivers, it really drills into concrete, brick anything with ease….very happy with all aspects of i
Dcd996 arrivato ben sigillato confezionato in scatola di cartone..ottimo acquisto tutto perfetto funzionante
Beautiful bit of kit. Super powerful, instant breaks. Does exactly wat I want it to. Perfect for home and on site use!
With so many models it difficult to get pick the right drill/screwdriver. This is a 480w serious drilling machine. Bit weighty as a screwdriver. Because of the power requirement it requires a decent sized battery; suggest 4 or 5 AH
It’s well built nicely heavy, the chuck tends to over tighten and makes it difficult to remove tool and the additional support grip does not grip well on the drill and tends to move unless done up really tigh
Researched these drills and this one came out on top , cost a bit more but Amazon were the best price at the time
The drill is fantastic, and after watching multiple videos and reviews there isn’t much difference between this and the more expensive 998/999.
The only let down was “sense group” who dispatched the order. As you can see from the picture it was not adequate packaging, meaning the belt hook is bent. In all, great drill poor company.. Sense group, if you read this, buy some boxes.. any boxes, just not flimsy bubble wrap and bag.
Great powerful drill, I got this to replace my older dewalt drill that gave up after 6/7 years of heavy abuse. So far it has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease. I find it very ergonomic to use with the light being a fantastic additio
It worked for a few things then noticed it wasn’t spinning correctly, I had to send for repair they found the fault and repaired. now it’s working perfect. It is heavy for a cordless.
The Best Dewalt drill i’ve ever used – this new model out performs all that came before it.
I’m an electrician and use it every day. I also like the new lighting feature which is brights and also can be switched on permanantly to be used as a torch.
It’s a big powerful drill too much for what I do really but what the hell you’d rather look at it than look for i
The drill function and hammer function with the multiple speed settings is amazing for pre-drilling into drywall, timber or masonry, battery life of course varies on the battery you put in but a 5/6 AH battery does the business for me, and the built in light is a bonus at times
As I already have a couple of dewalt 18v XR tools I decided to buy this as a replacement for an old dewalt 14v drill I’ve had and used faithfully for 9 years, the dcd996 is a massive step up in all aspects of use!!! Buying a “naked” unit and using my existing batteries made sense to me! Would highly recommend the unit and the seller! 100% 5*
Great drill bought on here 3 years ago still works grea
After watching many reviews on this dcd996 combi drill, it ticks all the boxes, very well built, powerful brushless motor 3 gears brilliant tool, slightly heavier than other dewalt drills but it’s way more powerful
This is must have drill. You won’t be disappointed.
This drill is worth buying. If you are in the trade then just buy it. I haven’t touched my dcd796 since owning this
Unfortunately it had to go back – but still an amazing drill, i just waiting for the price to come down as currently higher than I purchased my previous one, but as a drill these are exceptional powerful and last forever on a 5ah battery, they are fairly heavy but that’s not a negative as they are built to last !!
Bought to replace an existing dewalt drill which had given many years of service, fully expecting this more powerful version to give the same or better service.
Awesome drill worth the extra money for the extra powe
I have a number of DeWalt drills. They are all basically the same but have different flavours and your choice should be about mainly what you do “most of the time”. My “go to drill” is the little 709. It’s a good all round drill, compact and light. Does everything well. It’s particularly good as a screwdriver. There are times though that you need a little more speed and this is where the 796 comes in. It’s that bit bigger, heavier but faster. Then there is the 996, which is the power drill of the three. It’s bigger, heavier, faster and a lot more powerful than either of the two smaller drills. This is especially good for heavier work, drilling larger holes in wood, steel or masonry, but it really is a touch too big for everyday use.
The 996 also has three speeds which really seems unnecessary. Two is enough. And there is the LED switch which allows you to control the led on the drill. Three levels of brightness and the last, brightest one stays on permanently once you hit the trigger.
One thing that is very noticeable about all three drills is you would swear they are all made by different companies. They all have similar characteristics but they all have different ones too. The 709 for example is the quietest of the three but both the 796 and 996 make a loud clunk noise when spinning fast and you release the power button. Very odd. Also the 996 clutch selector is very noisy, whereas on both the 796 and the 709 it’s very quiet. And on all of them the clutch settings are different and the clutch on the 996 is very strange. Instead of just clicking when the clutch slips, it makes an almost inaudible click and just stops turning altogether ( the motor switches off ). Saves power I guess. Also, the speed of the drill is set according to the clutch setting. The lower the clutch is set the slower the drill turns, so you do have to make sure that the clutch is set to “drill” or you won’t get the highest speed from the drill. It happens on all three speeds. I guess this is clever, but really I am not sure it’s needed, and it certainly can be confusing. You are sitting there wondering why the drill isn’t going very fast when you realise it’s because the clutch setting is low. Also when the clutch activates it just so happens to be exactly the same as when the battery runs out…. confusing.
Personally I removed the belt clip. They are a darn nuisance, they catch on everything. They are useful for some people, but not me. On the 996 the drill is so heavy it’s likely to end up with your pants round your ankles.
So, best for heavier work, the 996 is a great, but the clever refinements DeWalt have added just seem to leave people confused. All in all I love using the 996 for masonry, but the best general purpose drill is the lighter 796. As a really cute, light duty, the 709 can’t be beaten.
If you use dewalt tools then you now this is a great drill. Bought this to replace my old dewalt drill that lasted ten years in the building trade and never let me down till the day it dropped dead in my hands. So far this one seems like it will be the same.
great drill you get what you pay for brilliant manufactuer have many other tools from these
Amazing tool.
Best drill I ever had so far.
Been using it for a while and it constantly outperforms my expectations.
With 5Ah battery lasts very long when used by a DIYer.
It’s got tons of torque and will snap small screws if you’re not careful.
That would be a downside of it. To me the lowest torque setting is still quite high.. but the trigger is quite good for modulating rpms.
It’s got 3 speed settings 0-450/0-1300/0-2000 which is plenty to choose from and provides enough speed for good gamer drill action. At top speed it gives 38250BMP and does actually go through walls very easy.
I like the belt hook and magnetic holder for you other bit/drill as well.
It also has a convenient light with 3 settings with 1/4 and 1/2 brightness that turns on whenever you squeeze the trigger and stays on for about 30 seconds. Last setting is a torch. That’s a full brightness and stays on.
That feature actually is somewhat annoying as whenever you first squeeze the trigger the LED will flash full bright before going to set setting. And whenever working with anything electrical it scares the Jesus out of me. Every freaking time! But might be something wrong with me…
Anyway I could not recommend it more. It’s not cheap but great and durable with all the features you will need and lasts for a very long time on the big battery.
Was bought as a present for someone. They report that it is excellent, particularly high in torque. Good weight and a quality tool. Good longevity from the battery, quick charging.
French house with solid hard stone walls, this really performs. The 3 speed with hammer action is what I’ve been needing for a long while, and this works a treat.
Great drill loads of torque ideal for heavy duty applications
Very good, had many DeWalt products, gets used hard daily. Last one lasted 3 years, till the chuck failed. Got this with the metal chuck, so should be good for a while. Used in a fabrication shop, battery lasts all day. It is a little heavy.
Great little drill , very powerful , heavier than its equivalent 2 speed drill but feels more solid and the arm helps with drilling larger holes , great product overall .
This is a great product, I’ve got various DeWalt tools so didn’t need to buy one with batteries, it’s not a light weight drill but it can drill through almost anything! The low power setting takes some getting used to on such a big drill and the high power setting takes some holding onto. Not for the average d.i.y person. Great value for money
I’ve been using a cheap unbranded battery drill for many years, which has been adequate for putting screws in and holes in wood, having to use a mains drill for masonry etc. I recently purchased my wife an auger for planting (her request) which required a more powerful drill, and as my last one has done me 20 years, i thought I’d splash out on a multispeed model hence this 3-speed range product. It is quite heavy but feels really well built, metal mechanical housings that seem very robust. I purchased a non-branded battery to go with it, and the performance is amazing, it is easy to use for all types of drilling and screwing in. A pleasure to use. Quite heavy, but I don’t mind that, and looks the business. Also the chuck doesn’t loosen like on my old drill where I was constantly having to retighten mid-job.
What a beast of a drill! Great price for this level of workmanship!
My usual drill was a bosch impact driver for large screws into wooden sleepers, which requires some torque as the screws are quite large. This thing seems to handle it easy and fast. Really surprised everyone at my workplace, hard to find a more powerful drill if im honest. Amazing drill
Superb tool. What else is there left to say. All the reviews echo this and it has also been my experience.
Exceptional tool.
One suggestion: mention the lack of noise when a torque limit is reached. The old, mechanical, ones had a real clattering sound. The electronic version, nothing.
Just arrived in the mail. This drill feels solid, substantial and very well made. I traded up from the DCD796 and this Drill is in another league. It even came with the De Walt handle. Well packaged and next day delivery to Ireland. Looking forward to clicking on the battery and drilling!
This drill is a beast for battery powered, I had the 776 before this and you can feel this is big and heavier but it does feel better quality. I have used it for a number of tasks including drilling through stone and concrete exterior walls with no issue, it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it. Since buying this drill I haven’t had to plug in my power drill once.
Buy this you won’t be disappointed.
Very powerful drill! Stacks of power & a much needed upgrade from my previous drill…highly recommended!
The best drill on the market in my opinion. Awesome power, great quality from a great brand.
Hammer function is awesome, makes light work of any type of brick.
3 speed settings, 3 light settings the third being quite bright.
If your after a drill that covers all jobs I highly recommend this drill.
Great drill with lots of power but very noisy on hammer
chuck is much better than lesser models as it doesn’t keep coming loose
This is a very powerful capable drill, one of the best drills I’ve ever bought. Great value for money with superior quality.
This is a good drill but it’s so powerful that it takes a bit of getting used to. The first time I turned it on I wasn’t expecting the torque and it just about snapped my wrist off. Whenever I lend it to someone I have to warn them to go a bit easy on the trigger. Like all drills it has a torque limiter so if you’re weak or scared you can turn it down but most people don’t bother using those things.
Otherwise it’s a good drill, mine has lasted through a lot of metalwork and a fair bit of building without complaint or deterioration and I’m sure it will last until the next round of battery technology comes along and makes it obsolete.
For more than five years, I ‘ve been using DeWalt 785. It was good, light weight, enough powerful for use like screwdriver, drilling holes in wood, some thin metal sheet, but not for drilling concrete, bad hammer drill. But it fallows down twice from the scaffold and broke transmission. Now always working like hammer drill. Now I decided to buy the professional DeWalt 986, body only, as the two batteries remained from the old. This one is super. Slightly heavier than 785, but it is much better in performance in all aspects than 785. Especially I can now drill holes in concrete. Tried it and doing great. Brushless motor is perfect and drain battery much less. It’s a great tool for that kind of money.
Very powerful, great balance, fantastic torque, two days into site project build and its working well. Very happy with purchase.
If things change then I will amend review if not then I’m completely satisfied
Very happy with this drill.came on time well boxed. I use this drill every day for work. I have noticed with all the dewalt chuck iv had and this one too chuck will come undone when in use and your bit fall’s out.other from that well made drill.
This bit of kit will not disappoint! Bought specifically for a big job building reclaimed tropical hardwood sleeper walls ( azobe wood – bloody hard stuff! ), it easily put pilot holes through with multi-material bits and then 20mm spade bits. Used it to screw in the 6.7x200mm timber screws too, far quieter than an impact driver. My mate was using his Makita drill which seemed gutless in comparison, his Makita rattle gun couldn’t even bang the 200mm screws in all the way, the Dewalt drill did them without batting an eyelid, loads of torque! Battery life with a 4ah was a bit disappointing, but the sleepers were absolutely solid, they make oak look like balsa and the drill was both drilling and driving, so I can’t complain too much.
Overall I’m over the moon with this drill, only had it a month so hopefully it’ll stand the test of time.
I just love it… Very smooth drill with no issues with drilling into sturdy walls, etc
Fantastic power and functionality, unfortunately, it is the noisiest drill ever built. Be sure to use ear protection with this beast.
I have done a lot of research and decided to buy this to replace old cheap drill. This one does all. It’s very very powerful and uses it every day for all materials. Had some workers over and they did borrow it and were impressed too. Quality is great. 10 stars if I could.
The drill is more compact and has a bigger kick to it, for an 18v drill it’s the best I’ve had yet.
Very powerful drill
But it come without its box, only in plastic bag and its made in czech republic, I thought it made in usa.
And when put the battery to the drill its little move and it come with some scratches
Very powerful. Probably the best cordless drill you can get. I bought a case separately for about 20
I didn’t buy mine from Amazon by I had to write and say what a fantastic bit of equipment the DCD996N is. I’ve drill into concrete with unbelievable ease, and when I used it to put a screw in it had absolute control.
I’ve had Dewalt drills before, but this one to date is by far the best.
I’m gradually moving to the DeWalt FlexVolt system, and this drill replaces my old Bosch 18V, which is big and heavy by comparison. I’m very pleased. Performance seems good. It’s nicely balanced in the hand. The torque levels are subtle but cover a wide range and the twist ring to set the mode / torque level has a very positive action. I love the light at the base of the handle and the ability to vary the light intensity. The magnetic bit holder on the side is also very handy. I don’t use a belt clip, but others will find it useful. It’s good that the clip (and the magnetic bit holder) are removable if you don’t want to use them. Overall the drill is pretty quiet. And not to forget the 3 year warranty (registration required). I’ve knocked one star off for the 3-speed gear setting slider switch, which is very ‘sticky’. If it loosens up after use I’ll update the review. Strangely, there was no instruction manual either. Not that I need to work out how to use it, but sometimes they do contain useful data/advice/constraints … I can download one from DeWalt but that’s kinda missing the point.
20 month update …
The chuck needs replacing (30); the twist/ratchet mechanism is failing. For a drill of this supposed quality I’m surprised it needs replacing at this stage – I’m not even trade. However, this aside it is a great drill. Light, powerful and versatile, and great stamina from a 4Ah battery. The hammer action is fantastic for a battery drill; it has very comfortably tackled some masonry jobs without me needing an SDS drill. The variable work light is great for someone with less than perfect eyesight! I don’t use the driver function much since I have a separate impact driver.
2nd one we have bought to replace our older drills. Excellent drill at a good price.
As Cordless Drills go,this is incredible. I work in property maintenance and this drill has been a great asset to my toolbox. Plenty of power/torque,very responsive on the trigger. Battery lasts ages with XRP technology. You need this drill in your life! Body only it’s a worth every penny.
This is not a powerful monster, it’s a crazed barbarian.
