Die Anschaffung fr’s Leben!
Like the fact we can do one, two or four slices at once and love how solid it seems. Have owned a similar unit before and it lasted years, before someone else took it. As far as I know, it’s still working.
Had to buy a toaster and remembered my folks have had one of these for years so treated myself. Seemed an excessive splurge but is just as fantastic as I remembe
This is a replacement for the Dualit toaster we have been using for 23 years with only 1 change of elements. I must admit the wider toast slots have good and bad toasting results but I still wouldn’t have any other toaster and we’ll get used to it.
So fast and stylish.
The only thing I’d say is it’s quite hard to make a toasty with the cages that isn’t raw on the inside and Over on the outside but love i
Great toaster..very stylish only down side is it’s a tad pricey ( cost more than my first car )
It’s the best one I have ever had. I can even get spare parts for it.
Superb product. Built to last a lifetime. Stainless steel and aluminium chassis, heating elements carefully designed to ensure safety, all components renewable. Expensive yes, but you will never need another toaster!
Well made toaster and great it can make toasties too – takes a little while to get used to the timings but once you work them out it produces nice crisp toast. My only small gripe is that the slots could be a little wider for the toasties – you need to limit the amount of filling to avoid the butter rubbing off as you slide in the toastie rack, but overall a good product and made in the UK!
Well, my original Dualit was a wedding present and lasted much longer than my marriage! (22years).But it eventually gave up the ghost, so I only wanted another Dualit, and it’s fantastic, sleek, quick to toast and something that I hope will last another 22 years.
Our old Dualit toaster was purchased when we got married but it was on it’s last leg’s.
Not surprising as we’ve a large family
If this one is half as good I will be happy.
Made in the UK too. Seems churlish to complain about the cost but it was a treat.
Beautiful looking item and toasts beautifully. I hope it’s durable too.
After purchasing this toaster (which IS a proper toast version, not a bun version), a friend gave me a 26 year old 2-slice Dualit. Being a total nerd, I’m restoring that one too! Easy to fix, parts available and DESIGNED to be repaired!
That saying “They don’t make them like the used to”… DOESN’T apply to these toasters. They’re built exactly like they used to! There is very little plastic – most of the plastic is the wiring and knob!
It’s also practical, because you can pop up the toast any time to check, and it doesn’t reset the timer. It toasts quickly, without drying the toast to cardboard-like texture and it’s easy to use. You never forget to change the timer between bread types, because you set the timer everytime you use it, and it’s one step.
If you want a quality toaster, spend the extra for this. I’m glad I did! (plus Amazon was half the price of buying it locally to me!)
I love it. Very expensive but it’s British made and easily repaired if anything fails. Beautiful design and solid as a rock. For me produces toast as good as most. I have no problems with it.
I have perfect toasts all the time, and great sandwiches!
What I like about this toaster
* It’s an iconic design classic.
* Elements and other parts replaceable.
* Feels and looks solid.
* Retro stainless steel body.
* Manual toast lift out mechanism.
* Whirring mechanical timer.
* It’s handmade in the UK.
What I don’t like
* One of the slot elements gives uneven toasting.
* Power lead is too short.
* It’s expensive.
I’ve had this toaster for 9 years now. It still gets regular domestic use and works perfectly.
The finish is as good as the day I bought it.
It does take a bit of learning to judge the timer but it is about twice as fast as my Mum’s Delongi.
She had hankered after one of these for a while.
They are sturdily built and have a pleasant clockwork noise as the mechanical timer wends its way from dough to burnt offerings. To our mind the best toaster on market.
However, I will share my better half’s recipe for toast.
(1) Thrust bread into slots
(2) Wind timer to the max under the impression that this makes it toast faster ignoring the fact this is only suitable for cryogenic treated toast freshly pulled from liquid nitrogen.
(3) Leave the room and do something else at the far end of the house
(4) Return to kitchen when the smoke alarms are wailing.
(5) Retrieve blackened, sooty slices and scrape to desired colour
(6) Add slab of butter and serve to kids with face that promises physical violence if you don’t like it.
excellent toaster good quality and the ability to toast only 1,2 or 4 slices is great.
Apart from my home this one of the best things I have purchased. Robust, idiot proof. Had it at least 20 years. Still going strong and never gone wrong.
The major differences are price – it’s expensive, a solid professional item, heavy weight built to last, repairable with simple tools, no clips and plastic, toasts evenly, nice wide slots, hot elements not just warm, slots selectible, simple to clean, chunky controls, excellent customer service, uk made uk service what more do you want. Then it looks good and is very well finished.
Contacted seller for detail confirmation which was amicably dealt with. Had an older one many years ago and am really delighted to have this one in my kitchen. Would have no hesitation in recommending.
Does 1, 2 or 4 slices. Still working fine, no problems with just toasting one side as the elements are still working fine. Good for toasties. Kids have used and abused the timer but it’s stood up to the abuse.
Best feature is that the toast isn’t ejected once done and sits getting cold whilst you fetch the marmalade.
We bought this many years ago and it is still going strong after being used at least once a day.
But I missed the fact that two sandwich cages are included and unnecessarily bought another pair. Not a problem with the product but worth noting.
Always reliable. The colours that the Dualit products are in is fantastic. Have had one of these toasters before and was reaaaly pleased with it. Would recommend
With a little experience you will be able to produce toast done exactly as you like it. The clockwork timer simply switches off at the end leaving the toast to be kept warm by the cooling elements. The toast can be easily raised and checked during toasting without switching off – more useful than you might at first think, particularly when first getting used to using it.
The only downside is the price but this is an iconic classic and I am glad I purchased it, given the quality of it’s operation.
What a great toaster this is. So user friendly, you can check on your toast or bagels etc just by lifting a handle, take it out if it’s ready or drop it back in for longer. The toast is perfectly browned and crisp on the outside but still soft in the middle so not hard and crunchy or soggy like other toasters I’ve had in the past. Makes fantastic ‘toasties’ with the cages. Although expensive it has replaceable parts, been using mine for over two years now and it’s still as good as new.
Great toaster – just what I wanted and makes toasted sandwiches too – a bonus I didn’t know about. Makes toast exactly right.
It looks well made whilst being simple and stylish. You get the feeling that theres not much to go wrong with it, as the timer is a simple wind up timer and the lift up mechanism operates by the means of a simple lever, so theres no springs to break. And the heating elements are replaceable.
You can operate the lift up lever even when the toast is still toasting, rather than having to cancel the toasting to look at your toast. This helps prevent burning your toast.
You can select 1, 2 or 4 slice operation which saves the unused elements from operating needlessly, thus preserving their lifespan. A slide out tray underneath allows for easy removal of any built up crumbs.
It has an ‘industrial/catering’ feel to it but at the same time it manages to look rather classy.
The supplied toasting racks are useful to allow you to make toasted sandwiches. Although I find that when making a cheese toasty, the toast is cooked before the cheese has fully melted.
My only complaint is the height of the toaster slots. I buy Warburtons bread (the loaves sold in the blue, orange or green packs) and the top inch of the slice of bread protrudes above the top of the slot. I cant understand why the slots arent a little deeper to accommadate the height of the bread.
Overall, a brilliant toaster. I just hope it lasts many years to justify the expense!
This is a good product. You need to get used to it at first and get used to it not popping up (which is actually quite good as it keeps the toast warm as you butter each slice) and the timer settings etc. However, it toasts evenly from 1 – 4 slices, has a large easy to clean crumb tray, wide slots for tea cakes etc and is seriously built to last. We have had our 3.5 years and not a thing has gone wrong yet.
Lacks many of the features of other toasters and slots could be slightly wider to take some slices. However, it toasts well, is very easy to use, feels that it will last forever and makes you feel good every time you see it in the kitchen.
Can l really justify paying this sort of money for a toaster you are asking yourself …yes a toaster.
Well l have to say the answer is most definatley … yes, yes, yes.
I would highly recommend this toaster and it comes in many colours to suit your needs, but make sure that you buy a dualit toaster with the small secondary dial. Some just come with the timer dial, but pay that bit more and get the one with the secondary dial. This means that you can then toast, 1,2 or 4 pieces of toast.
To toast you select the number of pieces of toast on the small dial and then turn the larger dial to start toasting. You get to know what number to turn the dial to after a couple of uses. Just remember if you are doing lots of toasting the amount you turn the dial will need to be reduced as the toaster is warmer and cooks quicker.
It does not ding but then again it does not launch your toast onto the floor..it just toasts and sits their. A simple lever device raises the toast for extraction. I find that the toast is just lovely, it doesn’t dry it out..it’s just right. Whether white or brown or granary. But some of the larger loaves of bread (Warburtons) are a fraction to big for the toaster, leaving half an inch of untoasted bread, but just turn the toast part way.
It cleans well, has a crumb tray underneath and looks good and sturdy. My toaster came with two additional cages for crumpets etc.
Dualit also repair your toaster for a tiny charge no matter how old it is, so even though its a lot of money to invest just for a toaster it will last a lifetime x
The 2+2 means you can choose to toast 1,2 or four slices of bread. This is why this model is more expensive than the other four slot Dualits. Personally I think it’s worth the extra for the versatility. The sandwich cages are also really useful.
I’ll be honest and admit that I was converted after experiencing my cousin’s identical Dualit toaster back in July – and I’ve salivated (not literally) about having one ever since. How did Amazon know that I needed that final enticement of a Kitchen Appliances sale?? It was perfect…….and I’m talking about the toaster here!!
I would recommend this toaster to anyone who wonders whether they can stretch their budget to the top end when looking for a new one…..coz it does what toasters are supposed to do….it toasts. It toasts perfect!!
I’ve got my own dualit now and yes, I’m a complete convert. It not only makes the best darned toast ever, but does it in such quiet, calm, effortless way it makes breakfast time feel so much more… civilised.
I love the way it doesn’t try to be clever and automate everything. Which means you can peek at your toast whenever you like, add just a tiny bit extra time, or take one slice out before the rest…and it doesn’t get narky about it; it knows who’s boss!
We’ve had ours for a year now, and it’s working just fine. You can even get spares for these quite easily, so if something goes wrong, you can get the spare parts rather than throwing the whole thing away like you do with cheaper appliances.
A toaster for life?
Probably.
The toast is good, but I have seen slightly better coverage by other toasters.
Slots do accomodate fairly wide bread, but could do with being a little wider (muffins, using std thick sliced bread for toasties) + being able to accomodate very thin bread (can go in-between toaster slot wall and lifter plate).
Manual toast lift-out mechanism is great. Controls are great.
Happy we bought it.
UPDATE: 9 years on this toaster is working as well as the day I bought it. An added bonus with its all-metal construction is you can invert a plate over it while toasting. Plate gets warm, toast does more quickly, energy saved. Additional heat doesn’t ruin the toaster.
UPDATE: 13 years on I finally replaced the end element of slot 1. Can’t complain about longevity.
