can hang around hangers or can be put in to sweaters folded too-had a bad problem last year and am hoping for greater effect this year-Good and don’t have a strong odour either.
I used this product as I kept finding very small pin hole in my tops. Since using this has not happened and my draws smell lovely
I liked the smell, not to overpowering and easy to put in drawers. They seem to be working, no signs of the moths
The EcoAbly Cedarwood Moth Repellent Cedar Rings are supplied in a cardboard box measuring 280 x 190 x 18mm, within the box are 48 cedar wood rings with a hole in the middle, each ring measures 45mm in diameter, the middle hole 10mm in diameter. Two small drawstring bags are also provided that can take around 8 of the rings per bag. When taking them from the box there is a reasonably strong smell of cedar so I was hoping this would transfer to the wardrobes.
We used them by hooking them over clothes hangers, and managed to use them all in my wifes wardrobe (upper and lower sections.) Next day when checking the wardrobe I could only detect the faintest smell of cedar. It is too early to say whether these will deter moths but we have tried a good many deterrents with only seasonal wins — a lot of our best clothes are in plastic bags as a result. I will try to update this when I have a little more feedback to give.
Good product, I liked the woody cedar scent. Popped it draws, few hangers and in cupboards – easy to use.
There are so many of these cedar rings in the box, you can add a load to your wardrobe and still have enough for your drawers. They smell nice too.
Cedar wood has been known as a natural moth repellent for years.
There are other chemical alternatives but the Cedar is a natural one.
Prevention is always better than a cure and people swear by the properties, so i though i would give them a go and see for myself.
The discs themselves where a good size the holes in the middle fit on the hangers perfectly.
I agree with the favourable reviews here: these are good cedar moth repellent rings. You get 48 rings, which is a pretty good number for the price, and they have quite a strong, very pleasant cedar scent. You also get a couple of muslin-like bags if you want to keep a number of the rings together in a drawer, for example, and a couple of bits of sandpaper to revive the scent when it begins to fade.
I can’t do any sort of controlled experiment on their efficacy, but cedar is a well-known moth repellent and they seem to work well in drawers and wardrobes. I’m very happy with these and can recommend them.
Very easy to use on clothes hangers to put in wardrobes. They just hook over. They are easy to insert on shelves or in drawers too. A pleasant smell that does not smell like traditional moth balls . When the fragrance which is quite fresh wears off they can be slightly sanded down to refresh and I imagine this will extend their use even more. Very good value and happy with these.
The rings arrive in a simple cardboard box with no superfluous packaging.
They come with 2 pouches for putting in drawers and some sandpaper to keep the rings working well. I’ve not had a set include sandpaper before so was particularly pleased with this.
They smell great and are strong enough to make the wardrobe smell really nice.
Very happy with this set.
Moths have expensive tastes. Cashmere sweaters are a particular favourite, and I have to resort to storing them in vacuum bags. These cedar wood rings are versatile and can either be placed in a a bag (supplied) or threaded over the metallic part of a coat hanger. I have threaded some of them on string which I hang in the wardrobe. Or they can just be added to a drawer loose. If the smell fades, all you have to do is rub them with a bit of sandpaper (also supplied) to release more of the moth repellent scent.
Using these cedar disks in drawers and wardrobes gives a fresh scent that I like. But does it repel moths? It’s difficult to tell at first. So it will need some time to see whether they work. Apparently the smell disguises the smell of keratin, which is what the adult moth is after to lay its eggs on.
The product details state that the disks will need refreshing after 3 months by rubbing them with the small piece of sandpaper included in the pack., which will release more of the oil from the wood. I might purchase a bottle of cedar oil as well to make sure that the scent is strong enough when the time comes.
At 23p each the price for these disks is fair. They’re very easy to distribute around the house wherever natural fabrics are stored.
Includes 48 cedarwood rings, 2 small drawstring bags, and 2 small squares of sandpaper- to sand the rings every couple of months to renew the smell,
Is not an unpleasant smell, not strong unless close up.
Can fit the rings onto the coat hanger hooks, or use in drawers.
Very good.
Have been using similar for years now and they really do help and make a difference. This is a very good value pack with 48 of the little rings which I’ve already dotted around in the wardrobes, pockets and draws etc as coming up to that time of year. Can;t comment on the effectiveness of these particular ones long-term yet but they seem as good as any others have used that I know have worked well and reasonable price for this many so would recommend and get more.
I love the smell of Cedarwood Moth Repellent rings, they just smell woody and natural with no chemicals. 48 Rings is quite a lot, so I put about 2-3 in each wardrobe and put some around hangers.
There were 2 pieces of sandpaper, apparently to be used on the surface of the rings to bring the scent again after 3 months, I never knew that!
For 10.99 for 48 rings, it’s a good value for money.
There are so many of it. So I can put in the wardrobe on the hangers as many as I want. The result is also very good, as I had it the same thing before, it works pretty good. No more moths come to attack my clothes any more. Good stuff.
These have several advantages over the chemical type and one important problem. The advantages are they aren’t poisonous, they are easy to use and they smell nice and natural. But they don’t last very long. They give you a couple of little squares of sandpaper to revitalise them but to do them all would take a long time and it doesn’t work very well. I compared a new one with an old one that I had sandpapered, and the smell of the old one was faint by comparison. Depending on your view of this, it could be a 3 star or a 4 star product. Possibly even 5 stars. But I would reckon on buying a new box every few months.
These are large discs, and they have a good, strong scent which should prove an effective deterrent. The box contains a generous supply, along with a few little extras. At around 10 this is competitively priced, and good value.
I’ve sworn by cedarwood for years for helping protect my cashmere garments from moths. It still works for me. They’re ideal whether put on a coat hanger’s hook or into a drawer. This pack is good value for money and I’d definitely recommend it.
Moths are a pain in the derrire or should that the wardrobe?
The little, shall we call them tykes, have a pecking order of preferences so cashmere first, then virgin wool, followed by your favourite suits.
Cedar wood has been known as a natural moth repellent for years.
There are other chemical alternatives but the Cedar is a natural one.
Prevention is always better than a cure and people swear by the properties.
You get forty eight pieces of Cedar Rings. Wood Moth Repellent in this collection.
With two cotton bags and two pieces of sandpaper.
They are of course 100% Natural.
The holes are excellent for placing above coat hangers suspending suits and the like. But you may need to place a ring in each pocket ofa jacket and the like so this bag may only cover 12 clothing items.
(One other tip which I have used is on a really clear freezing day to hang out your suits and the like on a clothes line. The intense cold should kill any eggs and the like by freezing them in minutes
Other friends have placed their clothes in freezers. So up to you.)
The inclusion of sandpaper is to sand down the rings to release the aroma of cedar wood.
The makers suggest you do this every three moths… months.
Good Luck.
Great cedar rings that fit through the coat hanger hooks and are flat for use in drawers and pockets of clothing for long storage. These cedar rings are essential as once the moth larvae get into your home they spread very quickly and not only go for clothing, but munch on your carpets, curtains and soft furnishings. We moved into a new house in the 2005 and we believe that the larvae were in the carpets before they were fitted in the houses as our neighbours had the same issue and it is so difficult to get rid of the little blighters, so prevention is better than cure.
This is quite a big box of 48 rings. The rings are each relatively small but can be hung over the hook of a coat hanger, placed on shelves and in drawers, or put in the two little cotton bags that come with this.
The cotton bags can comfortably fit about eight wooden rings (see photo, which shows a bag with eight rings inside), so I filled the two bags and still had 32 rings left. With the bags hung, one in each of two wardrobes, I waited until the next day and upon opening the cupboard doors I couldn’t really notice the cedar smell.
So as a second experiment, and since only two little cotton bags come with this set and they were both now full, I tried laying all 32 remaining rings inside my wardrobe, some on the top shelf and some on the base. After another day with the doors closed I still couldn’t really detect the cedar smell when opening the door a crack and sticking my nose in there.
I have no idea how much cedar smell is required to repel moths. It might just be a tiny hint. But the bottom line, I think, is that these rings may well work against moths, they do smell quite nice when you sniff them, but they are not going to replicate a wardrobe made out of solid cedar just by tossing a few wooden rings in there — there’s just not enough wood present / wood surface area to do that. Note that if you used quite a few of these in a small space like a drawer I suspect the scent would be much more concentrated compared to my large wardrobe.
I also used the sandpaper on a ring as a test. From this I discovered two things: (1) sanding 48 of these rings by hand would take quite a while so you’d probably either want to just do a couple every now and then or use a power tool, and (2) on fresh rings it doesn’t seem to affect the smell of the rings significantly when sniffing them directly. It probably brings back the scent after they have been hanging for some time, just like when sawing wood you can smell the freshly cut wood in a way that you can’t from the original piece of uncut timber.
The price currently seems fairly reasonable for 48 of these rings, they are quite attractive to look at and do smell nice (when smelled directly).
When I moved into my house, there were small holes all over the bedroom carpet which I didn’t realise were moth holes. Since then, I’ve had a problem with moths eating my clothes in the wardrobe, try as I might to keep them away. I’ve been using commercial moth products for years and managed to keep them away so I’m hoping these little rings will be just as successful. All you do is hook them over your coat hangers and put them in your drawers. The packaging gives no instructions (apart from telling you to sandpaper the rings when the smell dies away) so I don’t know if you’re supposed to put them directly onto clothes. They are just wood, after all, so I should think it would be ok. It’s not as if they are impregnated with some sort of chemical – it’s all natural Cedar wood. I remember someone once telling me that back in the day, manufacturers used to make the drawers of bedroom furniture out of Cedar for the specific reason of deterring moths, so there must be something in it.
I think this is pretty great value. The box has 48 cedar rings which will last forever. It includes sandpaper to sand them down every few months if/when the smell wears off. It also includes a couple of cotton bags. The rings have holes in them to easily put over hangers. They can also be scattered in drawers. This is a safe, natural alternative to chemical moth killers.
The rings nice and smooth, so they aren’t going to snag your clothing. Very happy with these!
A box of moth repellent discs, made from 100% natural red cedar wood, that naturally repel moths from your wardrobes and drawers; these cedar rings contain natural oils that provide a fresh fragrance that also removes unpleasant musty smells. The box also contains two jute bags to put the rings in for lining your drawers and small pieces of sand paper to refresh the wood.
You can loop the rings on the coat hangers, as I have on. My Italian wool suits, or hang the bags on the clothes rail, shelves etc. I put mine in with my lambs wool jumpers. The rings won’t stain your clothing, if allowed to come into contact with them.
When the fragrance starts to disappear, refresh the discs by rubbing them with the sandpaper, this will bring back the fragrance of cedar wood.
It’s well known that cedar repels moths, but now my wardrobe smells of a forest, gorgeous. Now I no longer use the chemical bags, that don’t smell nice at all, so I’m happy to recommend.
I’ve used cedar rings for years now in wardrobes and drawers to protect delicate knits. And yes, they really do repel moths. These ones are great. Freshly hewn pieces of cedar with smooth surfaces. Scent is super woody and fresh. You get 48 pieces, and a couple of little fabric pouches and sandpaper to renew the cedar scent periodically with a quick sanding. As the card in the box says “no more moth parties”
Cedar is a natural moth repellent and feels kinder to use environmentally as well as ethically than anything that aims to kill the moth. I have used cedar for years in drawers and wardrobes and have rarely seen a moth anywhere in the vicinity and have certainly never had an issue with finding holes in clothes, so it is effective as well as kinder to the moths. The cedar seems to be effective for a long time, usually at least 6 months, but you can reinvigorate it by lightly sanding the surface of the pieces and it starts the clock again. A small piece of sandpaper is included and there is also a small bag for placing a few pieces in a drawer as well as placing the rings of cedar on coat hangers.
The pieces arrive boxed, so presentation is good and the cedar is nicely cut and smooth, so aren’t going to cause any pulled threads if they come into contact with delicates such as silk or cashmere.
