Great game. 60 hours into it still get pleasantly surprised by it.
Great game that requires grinding and patience. Boss too difficult? Leave them till you’ve leveled up and improved your gear. You will find it easier as you progress, I’m currently around level 30 and only took on a handful of bosses. The message system gives players the ability to leave tips for other players which can be very helpful when facing new foes. If you’ve travelled a large distance be sure to find a site of grace so you respawn close to retrieve your dropped runes, and be sure not to break Golden Runes in your inventory till you require them. This game does not hold your hand and It can frustrating in the first few hours but stick with it and you will be a master in no time.
Started off by not enjoying this, but now it’s all I think about. There have even been dreams.
If you love Dark Souls you’ll love this and if you’ve never played a Souls like game you’ll love it too. It’s amazing exploring the open world map and going off on your own to explore the areas and challenging different bosses. 10/10
Having been a fan of all the Souls games I knew I was going to love this game, the thing I wasn’t expecting (hadn’t watched anything before release) was just how big and open world it was with complete autonomy on how you want to go about it. It makes for very interesting and varied playthroughs as the only thing restricting you from certain areas can just be a boss than needs taking down.
Overall love the game and the little extras in the launch edition are cool too.
I think this might be my favourite game ever… I’m totally not addicted…
Words escape me when trying to describe the depth and breadth of quality Elden Ring exudes. Just pay up and play it!
Amazing game! I’m 75 hours in and I’m nowhere near through the game. Highly recommend.
Received the game on day of release – beautiful poster and stuff with it. Now the game itself:
1) This is a slow burn type of game that requires patience, discipline, and taking it one step at a time.
This isn’t the type of game you can burn through in a few days or a week and get to new game plus.
There is a lot in this game that is frankly a huge bargain given how much you get in each area. And you get maps. MAPS! Do you know how much time that saves and you can add markers and fast travel. Listen, as a SoulsBorne player this is so helpful.
Did I mention how big this game is? You could easily spend a week in one area (Limgrave) just exploring, getting weapons, joining convents, achieving a lot of stuff, speaking to different NPCs, and doing the bosses here and there to practice and level up.
There are rest/check points literally everywhere – known as “graces” some call them bonfires and they act like them pretty much.
One thing of the many things I truly appreciate is that if you die to a boss you can choose to return outside the boss room checkpoint instead of goings straight back to the “grace/bonfire”. That has saved my bacon so many times.
Now – if you are truly stuck and feel overwhelmed or just think wtf is going on I only have an hour to play – that’s perfectly fine – I do highly recommend VaatiVidya’s “get overpowered early in elden ring” video – it contains zero spoilers and is a huge quick and easy helpful guide to getting the basics to make the game easier and more enjoyable. So you don’t feel like you’re wasting hours and hours getting nowhere and constantly. There is no excuse to complain with there are billions of helpful guides and aids around.
Sidenote: We get a horse. We get beautiful life saving Torrent – can you imagine the nightmare of not having such a fun easy method of traveling around? How much more could you ask for.
And we can climb buildings and mountains – even do bosses (like dragons) with Torrent. It’s wonderful.
Sidenote 2: The crafting in this game is so easy – you basically never run out of “humanity/embers” so you can summon help whenever. All you have to do is pick some flowers. One single flower and craft it into the summoning item.
Also you can craft buffs like poison, bleed, fire, electricity, holy and new horrors like scarlet rot (shudders), a soporific buff which is suppose to make enemies I guess weaker in stamina and such? Because they don’t technically fall asleep – it would be funny though if in mid boss battle with “Godrick” in his mid tantrum phase got smacked with some soporific grease to the face and went to have forty winks.
2) There is a story – there are many stories in fact – it’s a multilayer open world game with TONS of different characters with little stories and quests here and there – some of which fit into the main story.
And the main story is very easy to follow given the fact you have an NPC at the roundtable hold (think firelink shrine or hunter’s dream) that tells you the places you have to go and the bosses you have to vanquish. In any order you feel like doing – and there is an endless way of getting runes to level up your character and your weapons.
There are factions and convents you can join – each with their own story and your choices have consequences, often they can influence game progression, and the fate of characters.
3) There is no difficulty setting and there never was in any of the SoulsBorne games. The only way to get the difficulty higher was to go to new game plus. The only difficult part in these games is that they require using your brain and being very very patient.
4) I won’t compare this to any of the four souls games, or bloodbore, but perhaps a little to Sekiro in that it like that game requires a lot patience and discipline.
**By the way, if you are stuck on a boss you can 1) summon phantoms to help you or 2) be a phantom and practice without losing anything – get some ruins and level up.
The other part that is super neat are spirit summons – that you can upgrade! Imagine, I can summon a pack of level 7 wolves to go after a boss or any enemy whilst I’m on Torrent. Doesn’t have to be wolves, it can Jellyfish! A gladiator, a bunch of undead soldiers, a giant eagle! All you need is some FP and you’re good to go.
5) Graphics are subjective, for me as long as it’s artistically consistent then I am an pretty chill kind of gal, ya know. Texture pop ins aside. Given how massive this game is – it’s perfectly fine. I’m not looking for cinematic stuff here – though the cut scenes are gorgeous.
Personal opinion – the different flora and fauna look absolutely gorgeous – the ocean and the sun, the night sky with all the stars and the moon.
Downside is, again personally, the face presets could be a lot better as they still require us to be in the “character creation section” for an hour trying to make our character not look like a duck faced potato on legs. But I digress, stick a helmet on and you are good to go. And you can change your appearance and even your character name in game – even reallocate your stats.
Random points to note: The OST is amazing! It’s stunning, one of my favorite things about it. Also, there are some creatures – like the bats that sing beautiful opera aria that will have you leaving messages such as “listen carefully, in short don’t you dare (kill them)”. Giants that sing lullabies that are lovely to listen to.
Some of the NPCs are fascinating – and beautifully designed – especially Ranni – her whole outfit is a mood and a half.
There is one boss, that gives you the ability to summon 6/7 NPC phantoms to help along with normal summoning of phantoms.
Every game is subjective if you don’t like this game that’s fine – if you do like Elden ring then that’s fine, too.
Cheers & may the good blood guide you.
Absolutely brilliant game. Does what The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild did for open world games but in a FromSoftware formula. It makes exploring the open world an absolute joy as there are things hidden in every nook and cranny. This game does accommodate many different play styles, so if you like fast close quarters combat, Slow and steady close quarters, ranged, magic and more. All the talk of “git gud”, if you’re stuck, just go elsewhere until your a higher level and you automatically “got gud”. If you’re interested in the look of this game, give it a go, you’ll not regret it.
It’s a souls game, so it is going to be difficult. This will not relax you and you may well struggle, but the game is rewarding and enjoyable when you overcome challenges, which I think is what the Soulsborne games are all about. I can understand why some people don’t like this if they are not looking for a difficult challenge, but I really can’t understand why people keep picking on the graphics (when retro games are so popular) and story. The graphics are good. The story is what you make it. Sometimes I also like a story-driven game that makes me feel like a god. I wouldn’t write a review for FIFA games and complain that they are the same as the last instalment and all you do is kick a ball around. They are clearly not aimed at me, so I don’t bother and I wouldn’t judge people who enjoy that. Ignore the negative reviews if you are new to the the franchise and find out for yourself. You may love it. You may hate it. Marmite, but I like Marmite. You don’t have to.
This game is hard. It’s a souls game. But it’s amazing and looks amazing. Try it.
Amazing game, great graphics and great action game, the best game in 2022!
Amazing game – Game of the year 2022 no doubt. Please try it for yourself you will not be disappointed.
I played all FromSoftware games and I can say that this one is probably the best of the series. Open world with a lot of bosses and side quests. The map is huge so explore everything carefully. There s a story line to follow up and for some endings you need a guide otherwise you gonna be lost but for the rest you can play the game in a way that is more suitable for you.
I wasn’t exactly a fan of Demon Souls Remastered when it was one of the few launch titles on the PS5. Too hard and too niche. But I thought I’d give Elden Ring a go and I’m loving it. 55 Hours in and the game can be played anyway you want. Spend hours making yourself OP and trash (yeah right!) the bosses or go into it at the right levels and get trashed. Die (A LOT) but the satisfaction of beating a screen filling bear is right up there with anything else in gaming. I honestly didn’t think it’d keep me from GT7 and FF Origins but it has. I might even go back and give Demon Souls Remaster a whirl after this. Great game! 8/10
The game is great! The items are nice souveniers to keep if you are a fa
I’m currently 80+ hours in and barely scratched the surface. I can imagine playing this wonderful, yet challenging title for many months to come.
As a big fan of the Souls games, I knew that I would love Elden Ring before even playing it. However, everything about this game has exceeded my expectations. If you’re a fan of the Souls games, just buy it. If you are not sure, watch some reviews or gameplay videos, and you will soon understand why it is such a highly rated game. I also think it is incredibly good value for money.
I got absolutely wrecked during the tutorial. I got wrecked by the first boss and I got wrecked by the tree sentinel. I tired to figure out why this was happening and I learned from it. I went on an adventure and levelled up. I got a better weapon, I got some ashes to help me, I got some fancy armour, I crafted, I explored, I got a horse, I returned to the tree sentinel and destroyed him. This game is hard but the sense of achievement when you finally beat that big boss gets the adrenaline going. Stick with it, you won’t regret it.
Love this game great price and the extras are cool
So much exploration, one of if not maybe the best game ever made if you like a good challenge and an open world that keeps surprising you.
All the advertised extras are here. Really nice set for the low price. Cloth patch is inside the games case with the disc.
Amazing game, 90 hours in and I haven’t even discovered half of the map. I have played and finished all From Software souls games and I can guarantee this is the easiest and most accessible one. Mind my words though, I’m not saying that this is an easy game, it’s far from being easy, but undoubtedly the most user friendly amongst all of them. Give it a bit of patience and dedication and it will repay you with countless hours of fun. A must buy.
I recommend this game for any rpg games lover amazing.
I have been playing games for over 30 years. One word to describe this game. Amazing.
Great introduction into the soulsbourne games for all players. Its hard at first for new players, but there’s many ways to play the game and make things easier.
The best game from software has ever made! I’ve played and finished every souls game and this is basically an open world dark souls game with a variety of mini bosses and main bosses.
If your a dark souls fan this game is an absolute must. Game of the year for me
At first I was Skeptical about the lower price but It’s completely Legit, Got it next day surprisingly and as a newcomer to the souls Games this one blew my mind, At the time of writing this review I already have over 100hrs Sunk in and many more to come, going to be playing the original dark Souls games eventually.
This is a game that you want in your collection and if you haven’t got a collection start with this, it truly is a game that will blow your mind
Amazing game yet again from From Software. No issues with product but the shipping was brutal. Paid for fastest shipping available and still took almost 2 weeks. Once it got to Canada it was here in couple days but to get it from England to here took forever. Australia Post needs to rethink how they do things.
Great souls like game, massive open world, amazing graphics, story etc.
If you consider yourself a avid gamer buy this game now, especially if you like getting what you pay for, I’ve played 40 hours and I’ve only just finished the first area, this is going take a long time to finish, has a very good gameplay loop where you need to farm in certain areas to build up certain crafting/upgrade abilities. A lot of bosses, caves, mini quests, co op if you want it.
Launch edition is cheaper than the basic and you get a poster and nice book with it.
Anyone familiar with the soulsbourne formula will not be disappointed, is it harder…yes in some areas, is it more accessible than others….definitely, is it challenging….wouldn’t have it any other way, is there a story line…..tell me a souls game where you honestly knew what you are doing!
What i would say is that this game is huge and massively rewarding if you stick with it, and boy you will need to in some areas, you will die repeatedly over and over, you will rage quit, you will come back for more if your mad and sadistic because you want to get past that area, you want to beat that boss, you want that overriding sense of achievement when you start to level up and kill your first invader.
What i like most about this area is that if you are stuck you aren’t that restricted, i spent 2 hours beating a boss only to find it was optional. You can explore at will and i advise you to do so, dont get bogged down.
Overall everything ive ever dreamed of in a game, love i
A sublime approach on open world design, deep RPG mechanics and challenging but rewarding combat. only problems are the occasional graphical glitch and frame drops
Well this is a huge success in our house, my partner absolutely loves this, already plays in pc but is also loving this in ps5 now
This is a great game, but it’s certainly not 10/10 like countless reviewers are saying.
Firstly, the performance is disappointing. The graphics aren’t the best, yet it struggles to hit 60fps consistently. There are FPS drops regularly which in a souls game is extremely annoying as you’re trying to dodge attacks etc.
Secondly, there’s little to no story. They made a big thing about George R R Martin doing some work with them, but I really can’t see what he did.
The open world is great, I usually hate open world games but I quite enjoy exploring in Elden Ring.
But perhaps the highlight of this game for me is the ability to teleport from anywhere to anywhere (provided you’ve unlocked where you want to teleport to). For example, you could reach a boss and you just struggle against it because you’re not strong enough. No problem, teleport out to another area and explore around there for a while. When you’re stronger, teleport back to that boss.
Elden Rings is a part of the souls franchise of games,
It’s a massive open world to roam around with whichever character you choose,
If you looking for an easy game don’t choose this, there are no difficulty setting you just need to get better and improve you character, You WILL DIE more times than not, you will lose thousands of runes (Game money)
Even the first boss may take you several hours to kill and you may want to launch your controller at the tv,
But having said all this the game is bloody fantastic and so addictive and you will keep going back to try that boss or just the simple group of skeletons until you get your revenge,
This game need time and patience, give it that and it will reward you well.
Can’t stop thinking about this game. An incredible compelling world with challenging gameplay that has probably changed video games forever. I’ve been playing games since the late 80s and would put Elden Ring in my top 5 of all time. A masterpiece.
A culmination of everything Dark Souls did right with the utter joy of exploration. It’s challenging, yet fair and forgiving. This is the Dark Souls everyone should play and should enjoy.
Great game and superb graphics can be a little on the hard side so be warned, but plenty of videos out to get you through it, if you are in to this type of game go for i
The game is amazing and even if you haven’t played or enjoyed Dark Souls games before this is the most accessible game of the genre.
Delivered promptly as per and the preorder extras were greatly appreciated.

60 hours in I feel like I’m barely halfway through. The world is captivating and atmospheric. Somehow From have managed to bring the same attention to design detail to bear on an open world game as their earlier efforts. The game is challenging as one would hope, but numerous efforts have been made to accommodate newcomers to the Soulslike genre. Far more buffs and strategies are available for combat, and exploration is rewarded with growth.
This is game is very difficult yet fun. There is a storyline and you’ll know as long as you have a brain. 10/10
Basically find a rune farming spot and level your character to.at least be able to take 4 hits instead of being one shotted vs every single boss throughout the map, also YouTube helps. Happy dying
I found myself getting bored of most games lately but this game has got me hooked like no other in years. Its simply amazing I’ve wasted hours just exploring the huge map from castles to underground caves. Great bosses that while hard give you great sense of achievement when you beat them
After playing 20 hours of this game I couldn’t see what the fuss was all about as the world didn’t seem big and the combat left me feeling unchallenged and unsatisfied. My friend was rating this 10/10 and I felt it was average at best as it offered nothing new to me at the time.
After 40 hours of game time my opinion has changed. The world now feels ridiculously massive as I keep discovering areas, dungeons and bosses and going back to previous areas and being shocked how much I missed even after being thorough. Quests are vague but a Google search or YouTube video may send you on your way. It is worth it as it can lead to new areas, equipment and bosses, you might even come to like some of the characters. It’s this sort of wonder of discovery which makes me want to turn over every stone in hopes of finding something or someone. Multiplayer seems to work anywhere and everywhere with the only issue of hitting a fog wall to a new area or dungeon this is annoying but it’s easily worked around. Taking on bosses with your friends has been fun and watching each other suffer is quite funny. It appears bosses take more hits to kill with a friend which is fine as we both tussle for his aggro to leave a friend a opening. Combat has only improved because I’m able to use my build to counter my enemies in the game and there is a fair amount of enemy variety and there are still enemies that make me clench in fear and run. I think you need to put in the time to be able to enjoy it as it helps to have a decent base knowledge and read all equipment and abilities you pick up. If you don’t have this time to put in then you’re doomed to frustration.
I would say the world needs more guidance and more of an obvious storyline as it’s very difficult to follow and ridiculously vague. But in the souls series as a whole this is probably a good place to dip into the series as the game isn’t as hard as previous games. The little messages left in game by other players are either hit or miss as they can be very helpful, funny or misleading. The bosses are beatable and some times you might need a friend to help but there are plenty you can call to help in game. Every boss has a weakness to exploit and there’s alwags a strategy to beating them. Unfortunately being invaded by others is a thing and it’s quite annoying in my opinion as I’m just trying to enjoy the journey by myself or with a friend. I understand this is apart of the Souls series and some enjoy it but I’m glad that you can turn off online if you want to be left alone but there is not option for when you’re with a friend to turn it off.
Overall it’s a great game and I am honestly worried and sad that eventually I will run out of places to discover as I don’t want my journey in Elden rings to end. 8/10
The game is amazing.
An FYI for the Launch Edition – the woven patch is in the game box. There’s a little sleeve that holds the poster & sticker but for some reason the patch (for me at least) was in the game cd box. Saw a few reviews saying the patch was missing in theirs so thought it’s worth mentioning.
Brilliant game. It’s my first venture into a Souls type game. Really enjoying it. I would advise exploring the world before attempting the bosses
I have platinumed Bloodborne and have a hunters mark tattoo. I have completed dark souls 1, 2 and 3 including demon’s souls, and so needless to say I was especially excited for this game and had the bar set extremely high. It exceeded all expectations, it is not only my new favourite game, but I wholeheartedly believe it is the best game ever made.
Buy it,
Stop reading, Buy it.
What you still reading for?
If you don’t like souls-style combat you will probably hate this game, enemies can easily overwhelm you if you aren’t careful and bosses can be incredibly punishing and frustrating, if you dont have the patience to learn the game, you wont have a good time, that and the game being very obtuse about how to find things. BUT if you want to get over these hurdles this is an amazing game that sets the standard of what makes an amazing open world game, it feels like a true adventure, around every corner I’ve found something that would often catch me by surprise and left me really engaged, feeling like I was on a true adventure. The sense of discovery is similar to breath of the wild but it feels like there could be anything around each corner and I’m always excited to discover something new. That and a very satisfying and rearding combat system as expected of a souls game.
This was a great price whilst on offer.
As for the game, it is visually stunning with some great animations and some really beautiful scenery to explore, including amazing architecture and stone work. However, the game is so challenging and unforgiving. Example of me on this game: Settle down for the evening, get comfy and relax, and start playing some Elden ring. Within 15 minutes, I start finding that my relaxation is slowly turning to infuriation and agitation. In order to try to elude back to my relaxed state, I stop combat on the game and instead just explore taking in the scenery, then 5 minutes later realise that I’m wasting my time and turn it off. Bit of a shame!
For once, believe the hype. ‘Elden Ring’ is that good. Mixing the Souls genre with open world absolutely paid off. George R R Martin’s contribution can be seen everywhere, from item/weapon descriptions to NPC dialogue. And the gameplay is fantastic. A beautiful, vast world, that rewards tremendously those who take the time to explore it. As for the difficulty, this is without a doubt the most accessible FromSoftware game. People complaining most likely want just a virtual movie with more focus on linear story and easy combat/handholding. Nothing wrong with that, but this game is not for you if all you want is little more than an interactive CGI movie. There is just so much to do forget game of the year. This is probably the defining game of this generation.
It will be a difficult game to top for GOTY too. Most forgiving souls like too. Not to mention you can just randomly explore for literal hours and always find something new. Very impressed with what has been accomplished in this game. Definitely recommended but just because it’s the most forgiving souls like does not make it easy. If dying repeatedly isn’t your thing consider passing although now is the time to start playing as the multiplayer aspect is full and coop is readily available to assist you.
One of the greatest games I have ever played.
That’s all there is to say
Not for the faint hearted, the game’s a test but a rewarding one and a beautiful setting you can get lost in.
This game is a nod back to the nes games of old. As in its nes hard.
There will be no hand holding playing through this game.. But stuck with it and you will soon be ripping those bosses a new elden ring.
This game is so HUGE. Theres always something to explore and always a very difficult boss at the end of every exploration. Once you start you do not want to stop, its more addictive than the word addictive itself. Very highly recommend for all the gamers looking for a real challenge
For all the hype, praise and marketing employing George R. R. Martin’s name (which still has power despite the mixed reaction to the shows end) Elden Ring is a niche game.
Oh sure it seems like another big fantasy Open World RPG. And it is. But like From Software’s previous titles “Demons’ Souls” and “Dark Souls”, Elden Ring has its own brand of storytelling and combat driven gameplay that can create zealots out of its fans and digust from those who bounce of its more obtuse elements.
God of War and Red Dead Redemption this is not. Despite his name being plastered everywhere Martin’s contributions are felt more in the world than in the story. This isn’t a huge AAA actor driven game with cutscenes and great performances.
You’re thrown into the deep end and must piece together the story bit by bit. You get involved as much or as little as you want.
The game also isn’t interested in a realistic open world – enemies respawn in the same place everytime you die or reach a checkpoint.
If you clear a camp – come back later and you’ll see it populated again.
Quests are few and far between as you explore the aftermath of a dying landscape. The game offers little in the way of overt progression – it’s often left up to your memory or map markers you place to remind yourself of where to go.
Bosses and enemies can often be brutally hard but the open world and exploration offers a sense of freedom never seen before in previous titles. No longer do you have to bang your head for hours and hours – there’s a whole world to explore and level up naturally until you’re ready to come back.
If you’re looking for the next character driven 60 hour experience you can sink your teeth into – perhaps look elsewhere or watch gameplay and see if it’s to your liking.
But if you take to the satisfaction of its unique combat, sense of exploration and indirect storytelling- you’ll be rewarded with one of the most inventive, creative and immersive gaming experiences in years.
Very hard if not played these type of games before, but can be addictive. Open world is massive
Just over 8 hours in and can’t stop playing it. I love just wandering around the huge world finding new power ups and rock hard monsters to fight.
If you are itching for a challenging yet rewarding open world fantasy game, then this is for you. It’s beautiful and devastating at the same time (as most Dark Souls fans know). Buy this game and you won’t be disappointed!
he first I’d say hour or so felt like the game was easy, but soon it got very difficult, but fair. Just learning to dodge properly and block etc and exploiting obstacles to attack and defend from.
Super immersive co-op. Awesome game, not had this much fun since Demon’s Souls !!
Now then . I’ll give 10/10 . This will be game of the year . Map is huge not mentioned that you have different world and another underground maps . Played in past demon souls and dark souls and this is so far the best game from this genre. Highly recommend, btw it take time but it definitely worth of money i I’m definitely keeping cd like foreve
Elden Ring doesn’t hold your hand, its a hard
and punishing game and a large chunk of people will be bound to bounce off it because they have never played something so challenging.
But please trust me, if you put just a bit more time into it the game will click and you will be forever changed, the immense satisfaction from mastery and victory over one of this games boss encounters is something you will seek in games to come.
Add that to the massive, sprawling and content rich open world with impeccable world building, deep RPG elements with wide build diversity and the sheer sense of immersion other open world games with their checklist and map marker design fail to capture and Elden Ring is undoubtly one of the best games in recent years.
So what are you waiting for? Go, feeble tarnished and become Elden Lord!
Dark sould and anime mix up is hard interesting and not easy, i am dying a lot but thats what i like i will beat this game as i beated all the others darksouls, bloodborn and sekiro 100%
Absolutely wonderful game, its a souls game through and through. They have managed to implement an open world in a way that doesn’t take away from the Dark Souls style experience that you expect, in a similar way to Breath of the Wild you explore the world because you genuinely want to out of a sense of wonder and desire to see what you can find, as opposed to just ticking boxes.
If you’ve played Bloodborne or Dark Souls you’ll know how this game plays, they’ve seemingly taken many of the systems from these games (especially DS3) that worked well and incorporated them here, and with a lot of quality of life improvements.
Multiplayer still has the usual lag, but the gameplay mechanics are great, there are now summon pools as well as summon signs so you can queue yourself up to assist players at any of the boss locations in the region you are standing in if you just want to help out without going to a specific location and waiting there, you can continue with your own game while you wait.
Imagine giving a game a negative review because you are awful at it and didn’t do the due diligence before you bought the product in advance.
Souls games are reminiscent of a bygone era where games didn’t hold your hand and interrupt gameplay every ten seconds for a cinematic cutscene, open worlds in particular are so monotonous and empty that they’re nothing short of superficial, this game in particular is an incredibly refreshing experience in a world where every developor attempts the monotonous foray into the open world sandbox genre without doing the proper groundwork.
There’s something new to discover in almost every square inch of the lands between ranging from beautiful to ominous but absolutely jam packed with unforgiving torment every step of the way.
This game is certainly not for casual gamers and if you’re inclined to write a negative review because you’re unable to overcome the challenge or didn’t know what you was getting into then you’re just being juvenile. This game is an absolute masterclass of a souls game and the open world is one of the few that has done it right along with Breath of The Wild (which this game was clearly inspired by) and RDR2 (which was a little overindulgent with cinematic gameplay but still great).
This game is as incredible as it is difficult and it’s truly a worthy sequel to dark souls 3, if a little bit samey.
Great game currently, enjoying it.
Yes it is difficult, but that’s the point. It goes against the social norms of hand holding and objective markers to show you how games could be.
Up there with one of the greatest games of all time.
If your a gamer like me and enjoy dipping in and out of games for a few hours at a time and have been looking for a game to fill the void of Witcher 3 or Skyrim this is it.
I tried dark souls 3 and couldn’t get on with it, it was too hard, but this isn’t dark souls 4, it’s so much more, so much to explore and yes you die, a lot, but it isn’t soul destroying.
I’m only a few hours in but can see this is going to be a fantastic adventure
I have played all of the Fromsoft games and this is shaping up to be the best. This is a step away from previous titles that have been linear in approach, whereas this is an open-world game and you are free to go wherever you want. The world itself is absolutely huge and it’s packed with discoveries to find and bosses to overcome. It’s a pretty big game and it’s very free in what type of character you want to make and (promoting so many builds for PVP) you are looking at a 100-hour playthrough. It also has New Game + for anything missed. PVP and coop is also there too.
Easily the best of the soulsborne games.
Is it hard? Yes.
Will you die alot? Yes.
That’s the while point in these games.
No bright yellow markers telling you what to do, no x-ray vision, no bs.
People asking for an easy mode are missing the point. It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t, it would just be another open world game.
People reviewing with comments like “good for teenagers who have alot of time”, I work 35 hours per week and excercise for and hour 3/4 days per week and have still put 45 hours into this in 1 week!
If you like to breeze through games or enjoy mindless entertainment, stick to cod, fifa, assassins creed etc
If you want a challenging and rewarding experience, get this.
Awesome, I played demon souls and this is no comparison it’s free roaming and this is what makes the difference to a great role playing game, very happy
Hands Down the best Souls game to exist thus far.
An actual open world where exploration is enjoyable, rather than having markers and a quest log which renders exploration redundant at times, this game really makes it worthwhile. If you know what you like, then font hesitate to buy this, new to souls games then temper expectations and be patient.
The launch edition of Elden Ring comes with a few bonus bit n pieces. In addition to the game you get an envelope which is nicely decorated. Within this there are 3 stickers (palm size), 3 large postcards, a poster and a patch (which comes with instructions on how to sow it on). Considering the release price for the game by itself was 5 more expensive, this is a fantastic deal as you get more for less!
A lot of people downvoting this for the ‘lack of story’ and for ‘not being fun’ – sorry you are missing the point of Elden Ring (and Souls games in general).
There is absolutely an interesting story here (even if George RR Martin’s involvement is suspect), the story is read through the world, the bizarre characters, the few cutscenes – its not handed to you with cutscene after cutscene and multiple dialogue trees. This is not a game that handholds you – if you want the cinematic movie experience go and play Horizon Forbidden West.
For not being fun, well – sure, I get it, its tough when most modern games have never been easier! Halo? A breeze on heroic. Forza Horizons? Showers you with rewards for simply turning up. Elden Ring is ‘fun’ for its immersion in the world, mastering the combat system, conquering your enemies – don’t buy this hoping for Genshin Impact levels of ease, this is a dark, mature action game which challenges you as a player to overcome its challenges (for more like this, check out Returnal).
So git gud, gird yourself struggler – Elden Rings will test you, but how it will reward you! With a sprawling, exotic world crammed with enemies, secrets and treasures – the ‘Souls’ games have (ironically) never been more accessible, more playable and (yes) more fun.
But geez, do your research before you part with your 45.
You’ll have to do your research at the start if you are new to souls games, but once it clicks it draws you in. I have played Dark Souls before and much prefer how the open world brings more approachability. Great stuff!
I’m a huge Fromsoft fan so I’ve been eagerly anticipating this game and I am not disappointed. I’m around 20 hours into the game now and I’m absolutely loving it there’s so much to explore and do it’s ridiculous, plus there’s bosses and fights all over the place.
Firstly the mechanics as with all other Fromsoft games are superb, controls are snappy and the combat is *chefs kiss* outstanding. Im currently using a Strength/Dex build with the twin blade and I’m loving it. Magic will be my next play through.
I didn’t know what to make of the open world style, at first I was a bit overwhelmed but now I don’t think i’d want it any other way. Having Torrent to ride around on makes everything so much better, HORSEBACK BATTLES!
Obviously some people see Dark Souls games as hard but really they aren’t, it’s just got a learning curve, especially with bosses. Learn their patterns and you’ll beat them in no time. Plus the feeling of beating a boss is second to none.
I’d probably say this is the best game I’ve played in a long time. Well worth getting a PS5 fo
Imagine an intricate Dark souls level, but the size of a Ubisoft map.. And you’re still not even close to imagining the wonder that is Elden Ring.
Oh how I die, let me count the ways.
Falling, impaled by an angry undead swordsman, suffocated by goo (then given scarlett rot as a final insult), shot by arrows from a giant prawn, shot by a fireball from a ballista. The list goes on. But, by god, is it one hell of a fun ride!!
The real appeal for me is that it’s not a strict ‘go-here-kill-that’ and you can’t progress past it, it’s very much encourages you to keep exploring and go back to that one boss when you’re ready.
The graphics are the best I’ve ever seen. The loading times on PS5 are lightning fast, respawning almost immediately.
If you like Elder Scrolls and a lot of trial and error, this is the game for you. 10/10, would recommend.
I love a soulsbourne game and this is that on a more epic scale. Both the hardest and easiest From Software game I’ve played but the added exploration means that even when you hit a roadblock you can just do something else until you git gud.
Only downside for me is that it looks like there is some real problems with pop in, frame rate stability and draw distance. Not effecting game play too much but it is frustrating. Look forward to them being fixed.
This is my first foray into the franchise, the open world format sold it to me and all told it is certainly one of if not my favourite game of the past 10 years.
Yes it’s hard, yes it can be frustrating when almost every enemy you come across will wipe the floor with you. But having said that I’m 10 hours in and at no point have I found it off putting, it’s such a rewarding game to play. If you come across something much stronger than you to then come away, level up, improve armour, improve your gameplay etc and to return to beat it is very satisfying. There are very few situations where you can wade in and overpower the enemy, you have to think about every move you make. You’ve just got to be prepared to put the leg work in to actually improve, this game certainly won’t hand you anything without earning it.
The main negative I have in terms of gameplay is when you get to a certain point it’s much too hard to level up, with the multiplier it will get to the point where you will need 10,000+ runes to just level up one stat. Taking it to the point where it will simply take too long to earn the runes and may stagnate the game a bit. Which going back to my earlier point is the game not giving you anything without earning it but it may take hours to rack up the tens of thousands of runes needed, pushing it over the edge turning it into more of a grind.
But until I get to that point I am really really enjoying it, the culmination of graphics, gameplay, range of enemies, scale (the size of this game is ridiculous) makes for a really impressive experience, the scope of what the developers have taken on and achieved is seriously impressive. Challenging and rewarding in equal measure it shouldn’t disappoint (as long as your not put off by the difficulty)
Easily the best game so far on the PS5 which will easily take GOTY. Ignore the negative reviews of people who prefer games that hold your hand all the way through it and offer no challenge.
If you want to play a game where you just mindlessly tap one button throughout that a child could complete, then don’t buy this. If you want to play a game that has a very rewarding learning curve and has you on the edge of your seat while playing it, then this is for you.
The game is amazing, if you like a simple game that is easy to play then don’t but this game. If you wish there was an easy mode in souls games, don’t but this game. Its hard, it’s vague, but it’s one of the best most polished games iv played on the ps5 so far. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, they obviously just need to get gut.
Bought the game based on reviews but the lack of any meaningful explanation as to how to play the game and no story whatsoever I’m struggling to bother investing in the game. I’ll keep grinding but the excessive difficulty and constant losing of runes after dying and trying to retrieve belongings is getting very boring. Top tip, play offline so you can actually concentrate on the game as opposed to online players spoiling it. So far a passable time waster but time will tell if it draws me in or goes on ebay.
UPDATE:
Rating increased to 5. I happily stand corrected. I’m about 15 hours in now and I am hooked. I love this game now I understand the mechanics of combat and levelling up etc. I can see me playing this for a long time yet. Could be improved with a more comprehensive tutorial for souls newbies.
Refreshing open world compared to the stale assassins creed series.
If you played any of FromSoftware’s games in the past, you’ll be right at home. While it may be daunting for new players, with enough determination and resolve I’m sure it will gravitate them towards past games as well. In terms of Story it isn’t as vague or confusing as previous titles, it still retains worldbuilding and story elements within items in the form of flavour texts as well as NPC interactions.
Firstly, ignore the negative reviews.
These people have had the game a couple of days and decided that because they don’t know what they are doing in the game, they now think it’s boring and rubbish.
This game IS an adventure.
You must walk before you can run and that includes getting to grips with the fighting mechanics, the surroundings and the complex story ahead of you.
Elden Ring has been hyped, yes, but there is no point buying it on the back of “hype” if your heart isn’t fully committed to a game like this to begin with. Do your research first.
There are many many hours of exploration, learning and battles to be carried out in this game but you must be disciplined and not just expect to jump into the game and go from A to B quickly or easily.
This is a great game that requires focus and understanding.
This is Dark Souls 4 with another name.
No haptic feedback.
Still the same punishing difficulty.
And we’re on 2022 and I can’t download a language back from PT-BR because it seems sony still has a soft of “region punishment”.
I will return and buy it digitally from Brazil, lol
Great game so far, patch is in the game box. Saw a few reviews saying it was missing.
Was suspicious with the low price and the fact that this was cheap and every other Elden scrolls seemed to have sold out on amazon. Arrived last night and its legit. I played for 10 mins just to have a look and it’s essentially the same as any dark souls game just on a open world map.
So keep away if you don’t like hard games. Nice graphics and quick combat so far, die hard fans of the series will no doubt be overjoyed.
Other people who have made Amazon reviews of Elden Ring obviously bought into the hype without knowing what a FromSoftware game is.
This game is HARD. This game DOES NOT hold your hand. If you love dark souls, you’ll adore Elden ring.
For the guy who was complaining about how there’s “no story”. There is a story, it’s just out in the world for you to find. Just like other From titles. George R.R Martin has helped create this beautiful world and create some fantastic lore.
It’s not your typical open world game where you get given a checklist of things to do and have markers on the map. You have to discover it all yourself.
And I’ll repeat this again. It is HARD. I’ve personally played all of the dark souls trilogy, bloodborne, demon souls and sekiro. Elden Ring is so far the hardest one.
It’s absolutely breathtaking.
10 hours in and it’s getting good but this game is hard. Be prepared to work on levelling up your character as you are not going to get anywhere otherwise.
First time playing a game by these creators but they have gone above and beyond with the attention to detail.
This game is going to last forever.
It runs perfectly on my PS5, no glitches no loading, very smooth.
You can easily wastes days away on this.
Clear your diary.
Boxing is nice, you get a map, stickers and a badge.
Arrived on day of release and so far I played the intro up to the dungeon under storm veil and I’m impressed by how much this improves on the dark souls formula. No it’s not Skyrim, it’s still rpg light but the world is full of stunning vistas with often fabulous things happening in the far distance leading you to wonder how to get there. Fights are tough, healing sparse, and don’t ask me what the story is but I played for hours, beat a few bosses, and stood around going wow at the views. Loving it!
If you have played Dark souls and are a fan of the genre then this is for you. I have not played Dark souls so i dived in with this game. The game play is tough compared to say Elder Scrolls and will frustrate new players to this game. But if you persist and put the time in you will be playing an awesome game showing the PS5 true potential.. For me though my efforts will
be on Aloy and Horizon forbidden West.
Haven’t received an item from the launch package as I am missing a card.
Disappointed
10/10. This game is amazing. Builds so much upon the dark souls, bloodborne and Seikro universe. So much fun. Deffo a must buy.
Great game but NO haptic feedback and no vibration feedback.
Visuallly stunning. Fluid gameplay, no frame rate drops. A joy to have the option of non linear play and exploration in a souls-like game. But just like those games, this is a tough game that will challenge the best.
