his printer worked beautifully for a few days, then stopped extruding. The extrusion stepper seems to be stalling. I shall update this review regularly as the problem is solved or not!
So, my solution was to adjust the extrusion stepper trim pot. Turned about 1/4 turn clockwise and the stepper stopped stalling, and started working. The printer is now working really well.
Great product, I had a lot of fun with this printer, they are an awesome product and I cannot recommend buying one highly enough. The only issue I had to report was the build plate did have a slight tendency to wobble when I was attempting to build some of the larger objects. This could have been due to my own calibration, however after many attempts to resolve the problem, I found the leverage was still too much when the nozzle reached the outer edges, and the build plate would move, enough to send the entire print out of alignment.
The only solution I could imagine was somehow taking apart the build plate and reconstructing it so that it ran tighter to the tracks, which I attempted, only to realise part way through that the machine is not designed to hug the tracks particularly tightly anyway. I could not come up with a solution, and reassembled the printer. The problem still remains, when objects have an outside diameter of more than 15cm, the build plate must be slightly off level on the runners, and when it extends it is not as well supported. I think this problem is probably limited to my printer, and may be related to the fact it was an amazon return, and I only paid 100, it looked as if the box had been dropped on the floor or something which may explain the issue 😛
I cannot speak highly enough of this printer however, and the items I have managed to construct with it have more than covered the cost of the printer and filament.
Easy to assemble in a couple of hours. Sample print of a Buddha worked perfectly first time and was a very good quality print. It is easy to obtain free 3D stl files from the Web and use the supplied Cura software to convert the files into gcode files that can be sent to the printer.
I’m quite a long term user of 3D printers, having had many machines over 5 different brands. This is by far the best FDM machine I have used.
My last FDM printer gave up the ghost, and having been highly impressed with the performance of my Elegoo resin machines, I decided to try their FDM offering. I went for the Neptune 2S as it had significant upgrades on the standard 2, all of which I would have installed myself had they not come as standard.
I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with this machine. I’ve now had it a week, during which it’s been running basically non stop and has got through one and a half kilos of filament. So I believe it’s time for a review!
Firstly the build quality of this machine is fantastic. Having had many printers where some contraction is required, I was used to fixing badly finished cuts with rough metal shavings and warped pieces. There was none of that with this product. It feels like a professional QA.
The construction of it was simple enough for me, having done this a number of times for other machines, but I feel the pre-construction quality and level of instructions would mean even a novice could build this well
Levelling it was simple enough with the paper method. My tip there is to start by levelling the centre (point 5) and work outwards.
I’ve had fantastic build plate adhesion on the stock magnetic plate. I love the textured finish it gives to the underside of my prints too (image included).
One of the main things that had impressed me about this model is how whisper quiet it is! Really minimal fan and carriage noise.
Print quality (the important bit!) is fantastic. I’m generally printing at 0.2 layer height, sliced with S3D on an Ender3 profile and using JAYO PLA. I’ve attached a pic of a prop pistol handle to show the lovely finish.
I’ve also had cause to test the filament run out sensor and resume function. See my attached image of how clean this resumption with new filament was.
Overall, I don’t think I could be more impressed with this piece of kit! I’m very tempted to buy another already
Absolutely loving this printer the results are amazing. I have seen a few people stating that they have had trouble putting it together. I did actually put off building it based on some reviews. It took me about 30 minutes in total. I would recommend watching the video twice then making a start with the book and stepping through the video a third time as you go.
I have printed several things and they have all come out perfectly.
Changing the filament is easy, the flexible build plate is easy to remove items from without damage.
Great product Elegoo
I originally brought this as a bit of a hobby and to create characters for boardgames I play with the kids, which has given me the opportunity to make some pretty awesome things.
Instructions to build the printer were easy to follow and I wouldn’t say you need to be really technically minded to put this together as all the parts are all wired up and loomed, you just build and click in the cables where required.
Print quality is great, easy access to different filament colours for printing. Great software to run alongside the hardware, easy to use and simple touchscreen interface on the printer.
I do recommend that you make sure the print bed etc is all levelled correctly before every print and you may want to invest in a longer USB cable.
Overall great product.
Very difficult to aligh bolts on one part of putting together. However, once together its good.
Sometimes struggle to stick first few layers but experimenting with settings and seems common challenge with 3D printing in general.
Overall great fun and pretty solid bit of kit, worth the money I think and countless options.
Ok now I sorted the problem and now it’s ok it’s a good product I just couldn’t get my head around it at first the print quality is absolutely incredible for a 200 printer.
I bought this as a gift for Xmas. It is made with high quality materials, well packaged and super easy to put together (bar the slightly weird instructions). It is quiet to run, prints well and went down a treat! Great starter machine for someone who has never owned a 3D printer before.
I am new to 3d printing and this is my first 3d printer, was very easy to put together, only took about 45 mins. printed perfectly out of the box, sent my first pint to it (echo dot wall bracket, printed excellent, very minor sanding on a couple of the edges. extremely happy with this printer. the machine itself is failry quite, only really hear a fan in the background.
Neptune 2S
First off, the setup. Followed the video supplied on the TF card and had no problems assembling the printer or getting it calibrated. Did the Buddha test print using the supplied filament which came out well.
The printed the duck headphone holder as per the photo (from Thingiverse). Again no problems. Started to get a few minor niggles now, but a but of research on the Facebook page and the 3D printing community sites has provided answers to those problems. For example, there’s no real mention of how to clean the printing bed, but the Facebook page community provided the solution.
3D printing is a bit “trial and error” so be prepared to make mistakes, have things go wrong. But with a little research you can usually find the answer.
For the money, it appears to be a great little printer with options to tinker with it and upgrade it. I got a “used” model that appeared to have never been used, still wrapped in plastic and undisturbed, but 60 cheaper.
For the price point it’s a really great starter 3D printer. The FDM quality is very good, although before buying remember it’s not the same as resin quality. Setup was fairly easy to understand, we had a few minor early issues with it but there’s an abundance of resources online to help through any printing issues if it’s your first time trying to troubleshoot, and Elegoo themselves have pretty quick and helpful customer services team who have always helped with whatever we’ve needed. We’ve printer a lot of 3D miniature terrain on it, the noise is barely noticable from one room over.
Great product for the price. No fuss, easy to assemble and use. I have 2 Prusa FDM and 2 Elegoo Resin printers and this is my first Elegoo FDM Printer. Cannot fault it.
I had heard some bad review about this printer after I ordered it. I figured I’d give it a go any way.
Well I was not disappointed. Able to get close to resin quality on a standard 0.4mm nozzle with a layer height of 0.06mm. I have not tried to dual colour/filament options but so far it’s been working well.
This style of printer is pretty ubiquitous at the moment and a ton of parts are interchangeable.
The bed also heats up really nicely so printing in ABS is possible. Just have a look out for a printer tent or enclosure to avoid any warping/splitting in your ABS parts.
There are also quality of life parts you can print from Elegoo. You can find those on their website.
Very nice printer and a great way to get into 3D FDM printing!
East assembly and within half an hour I was doing a test print. Bed levelling process is simple but needs a little patience to get it right. I’ve printed a variety of parts, shapes and sizes, with no problems. I have “worn out” one build plate because I’ve used it so much, and that would be my only minus point. Currently, you can’t buy any spares for the printer, but I contacted Elegoo through their website and they sent me a replacement build plate FOC. Great service or what. Still think it would be good if Elegoo offered a range of replacement spare parts for this printer.
Received the printer in good time but unfortunately the heated bed was warped.
I contacted elegoo who were helpful and sent a new heated bed out within a couple of weeks.
The dual extruders meant that a bit of tuning was required to dial in the settings including a bit of Gcode changing to get it really good.
The build plate sticks really well. mine stuck so well that removing the print pulled a hole in my build plate material but could well be my fault and I’m not overly concerned as I will put a magnetic build plate on this in due course.
Overall the print quality is very good and for the price, dual extrusion is a great option!
Overall I would recommend this printer to anyone who’s familiar with FDM printing and is looking to experiment with multicolour printing 5* from me.
I really like this printer and the elegoo company, the support for me few questions has been great. The printer needs very little tinkering to get excellent results, you will get great prints out of the box as long as you take your time when you build it.
his is my first 3d printer and im am so impressed with the quality of the machine and the print you get every thing you need in the box from the machine itself you have to assemble but really straight forward with a video guide to do so on the sd card that is supplied and the usb conecetor for the transfer of files to a scrapper to get your prints off of the build plate to a pair of cutters to clean up your prints with,
i was so immpressed with what i got, i have been using for more the a month now and had no problems and will be buying another one as soon as i have the money totally worth every penny and i cant recommend this machine enough for the price i thought i wasnt going to get a good machine but thought i got to start somewhere but wow what i got was amazing please if you do anything after reading this just order this machine you wont be dissapointed at all 5 star recomend
This is an unbelievably good printer for the price. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now and I’ve been printing with it almost non-stop. I’ve had zero issues with it.
The issues people are having are all user error. You DO NOT level a bed with a digital level. You have to level the bed to the tip of the nozzle. Heat your bed to 60 degrees, then wait 20 minutes before leveling so that the aluminum below the glass heats up and expands. You’ll have better prints if you do this. Next, click on auto home and disable steppers. Finally, take a sheet of paper and place it under the nozzle and adjust until the paper can slide underneath the nozzle with a little vibration (you’ll feel this vibration from the nozzle). Do this on all 4 corners multiple times. After that’s done, you’ll be ready to print.
It prints beautifully out of the box. Price wise perfect purchase. I suggest to look for CHEP’s video on YT regarding Ender 3 assembly, of which this one is an improved clone. Initial assembly is super important.
First upgrade I made were two cheap pavement slabs as a base.
Instructions were a bit difficult to follow for a newbie, but a few YouTube videos sorted that
Once i’d Sorted the ‘adherence ‘ issue out, the prints are fabulous
This printer was my first printer purchased from Elegoo. I’ve used other products from them in the past which also had great quality.
Firstly, the pros;
– The print bed has fantastic adhesion
– It is an incredibly quiet printer, the only noise you can hear from it is the fan
– Print quality is great, using this at 0.15mm with SUNLU PLA+ has provided minimal layer lines, these become slightly more pronounced the larger your layers are, as you’d expect
– Customer service is fantastic, upon having an issue, contacting their Customer Support team got my issue solved with minimal fuss
Cons;
– The print bed may be too adhesive for smaller prints, even after allowing the part to cool, I did have a couple of prints that split at the layers due to how well it had stuck to the bed.
– The mainboard is a clone of the Robin Nano 1.2, however it is not a direct copy and you cannot replace it easily with a Robin Nano or a direct clone. I have not found a source from Elegoo for these boards, however they can provide them if you contact their Customer Support team
– No Auto Bed Levelling as standard, although a BL Touch can be installed
– There was some supply issues originally, though these seem to have been resolved for the most part
Overall, a great printer and I would definitely recommend it if you can get hold of one
A lot of FDM printers these days arrive almost fully built, this one sadly doesn’t. It’s not difficult to assemble, but it does mean that it takes longer to get up and running.
The instructions are easy to follow and all of the parts fit together nicely, though I did have to tighten the build plate as it was wobbling around quite a lot.
My biggest pet hate with FDM is bed levelling – unfortunately, this doesn’t ship with ABL, so you’re stuck manually adjusting. Thankfully the software has buttons to move the extruder to all four corners and the middle automatically, reducing one small part of the job.
Bed levelled, filament loaded, I set the multicolour test print running – and the extruder immediately rammed itself into the bed… thankfully just in the corner so the damage is minimal.
Powered off and on, redid the levelling, this time it worked ok.
A couple of hours later I had a multicoloured cylinder that looked great, the print quality was fine. Probably some adjustments are needed to the temps but other than that the printer runs great.
It’s really quiet compared to some of the other printers I’ve used in the past.
I’ve used lots of Elegoo resin printers in the past and as long as the customer support is as good on their FDM printers, I’d highly recommend them.
Great printer easy assembly and setup , clear manual .
Printer reasonably quiet , precision very good .
Some tools and small filament include.
Great cheap high quality , lovely touch screen . Very recommended
This printer for the price is amazing, it’s super simple to use for a beginner like me. The SD card comes with everything you need and it prints like a charm.
Only issue is the assembly is abit long and annoying.
If you’re looking at getting into 3D printing or like me have one thing you’ll print over and over then this is fab
I’m not a newbie when it comes down to 3D printing. I own 3 other 3D printers and i thought i’d give the Elegoo Neptune 2 a go being a it’s such a good price.
First of all the assembly was very easy to do, it took about 45 minutes.
Very solid printer, did some printing straight away with no problems at all.
Printer is very easy to use and software is easy to use as well.
I can honestly say that the prints i have done so far have an excellent finish to them.
Bed levelling is a lot better than the Creality Ender 3 pro which i bought before the Elegoo. I was not impressed with the Ender 3 pro at all and sent it back as i thought it was a poor quality machine which looks untidy and unfinished especially with the touchscreen not being enclosed where the Elegoo neptune 2 is enclosed. The ender 3 pro is also too overpriced.
The Elegoo is a good machine with a nice finish to it.
The Elegoo Neptune 2 is ideal for people who want to start 3D printing.
Customer support is first class they get back to you within a day and sort out any problems you may have.
The printer is well worth the money.
Very good choice for first FDM printer. Very well packed. Easy to assemble when following the instructions that come with the USB. From opening the box to pressing print took me around 1hr. The test print came out perfect. The following few weeks and some dozen or so Very good prints later, a problem developed where the filament appeared to not flow correctly causing the extruder to back up constantly which in turn led to some bad quality prints. Quick communication to Elegoo and a new part getting sent out. The customer care is great and gives you confidence that if anything goes wrong they are there to help. It’s not all that apparent from the off but these printers do require some maintenance to ensure continued good standard of print quality. If you see something changing for no apparent reason you may need to clean or change something and you may have to spend a bit of time finding the issue and if you are not familiar with FDM printers like me it can be challenge.
I was super impressed with this 3D printer. I have never seen or used a 3D printer before but at this price point I had to take the plunge. I was super impressed with the packaging and the print quality is amazing.
It was a little hard to assemble, in the instructions are not the best but if you take your time then you should be fine.
Really pleased with the printer came well packed & only let down was that “remove this film sticker” was actually stuck to the heated bed and not to any film, cleaned it up with some IPA & plastic scraper.
Oh my GOD this printer is the best fdm printers I have used straight outta the box prints with perfection and looks the business to boost ,alongside the colour touch screen and the pla sensor if it is stock PICK IT UP ITS A MUST for any beginner or experienced use
It’s pretty much an Ender 2 but much cheaper. The quality and value for money is hard to match.
I found it pretty easy to build using the enclosed video and had my first test print done in no time.
One tip I can offer is that you go to the trouble accurately leveling the bed ready to print, but then found it would re-home as soon as it started to print, so the accuracy of the leveling was only as good as the ‘Z’ axis micro switch.
I can see why they have done it this way as it’s safer to re-home, but I found there is a setting in Cura where it lists all the commands added to the start of the g code file which can be edited. So I simply commented out the G28;home command with a semicolon so it no longer re-homes. But it is important to remember to level the bed before each print or it will not know where the zero datum is. The other tip is to pre-heat the extruder and bed before leveling in case there is any hard plastic sticking out the nozzle which can cause inaccurate leveling.
If you’re looking at designing your own things to print then the easiest CAD S/W I found to use was Tinkercad. It was literally child’s play to use by dragging shapes around and had my first widget designed and printed in a matter of hours.
I have now printed many things and even printed some test pieces to see how strong the filament is , so I’m in a good position to recommend eSun’s PLA+ which is very flexible yet very strong at the same time and probably as good as ABS in most applications, but without the nasty gasses of ABS. In fact I found the PLA+ to be almost odour free. Hope these tips help, you’ll love the Elegoo if you can find one in stock.
This is my second 3d printer and it is a complete bargain. It took me about 90 minutes to assemble. There is a great assembly video on YouTube and on the supplied sd card. It punches well above it’s weight. If you don’t believe me, check out the reviews online. Happy Printing.
Well where do I start.
ELEGOO NEPTUNE 2.
Is an amazing company that cares for all its Consumer wherever they are in the world. I had a printing problem and the very kind gentleman Mr Kun Lee was so quick on the issue the speed and service was above and beyond the call of a company of its statue.
I cannot thank the ELEGOO and MR KUN LEE enough and I will always trust and recommend them to all and everyone I know and over social media.
Thank you so much
My Very Respectful Regards
Paul Johnson
A happy ELEGOO Neptune 2 Owner.
An absolutely amazing printer, has handled everything I’ve thrown at it, which is a lot. It’s been in use almost everyday for weeks. Definitely a great 1st printer! And now it even supports a bltouch auto bed level. Highly recommend
To be honest I wasn’t expecting to much from this printer, but looks can be deceiving!!. took about 3hrs to assemble and get up and printing. Comes partially built so not to bad to assemble, plenty of videos online for that extra bit of detail to help you.
I would recommend you upgrade to a glass print plate, and upgrade the levelling springs(cost about 28 all together). My first printer and apart from a few teething problems, which were sorted after the upgrades, and me not really knowing what I was doing prints really good and good quality prints are achieved.Use the software that comes with it as it has all the correct settings to work correctly.
As in all new things it is a learning curve, and i’m still tweaking settings as i go along, but plenty of help and advice online to help you.
I’ve got friends who have spent 300-400 pounds and multiple upgrades to their printers, and they are impressed with the quality this produces.
Definitely a good printer to get into the world of 3D printing, but i would definitely do the two upgrades.
Pro’s
Easy to put together and use straight out the box.
Good printer and reliable, been on everyday since purchase nearly all day for the last month.
Good quality prints.
Easy to use once you get use to it.
Con’s
none really apart from could do with having a glass print plate and better levelling springs.
But same as anything, you learn, you tweak, you upgrade.
Can’t fault it for the price! So far printed the Buddha model that comes with the printer and a Benchy, and the quality of both was excellent, for 150 you really can’t go wrong. Just a shame stock levels are so low!
Great value 3D printer ideal for beginners. So far really happy with the quality of prints and am enjoying learning all of the different aspects of the hobby
I have had some fantastic prints after alot of fiddling around with the settings. I had a problem with the drivers being missing from the USB stick but I spoke to Elegoo who were really helpful and they sent me new SD card for my USB stick great company and really great prints, very happy thanks Elegoo.
Had an issue with the first Neptune 2 and had to return. The thread on the power supply was worn away and wouldn’t attach. Elegoo offered to send a replacement quite quickly it’s worth noting the manufacturer support.
Second model arrived and it was a breeze to set up. Some issue with bed leveling but I just needed to lower the Z axis sensor and I was good to go.
The testprint came out fantastic using the provided sample filament and another smaller more detailed print at 0.2 using the Eryone wood PLA was even better.
Really love this printer. It was a bit of a nightmare getting the levelling right and settings. It wasn’t until I had it a week that I realised there was a Cura on the usb and then all my issues with the settings were fixed
Definitely value for money, I’ve been printing a birthday present for my mum and the prints are amazing when the settings are righ
Amazing quality out the box
If you are looking to start 3d printing you cant go wrong with this printe
“WOW” is all I can say. I have six 3D printers but I am blown away by the quality of the machine. Very solid built machine and easy to assemble . The prints come out amazingly. Definitely a must have machine.
This 3d printer is incredibly good for the money each print has been amazing no wonder this item is in High demand . Would recommend to any first dipping your toe into 3d printing
Perfect printer, for this money, just buy it if you are interested in 3D printing
Easy to assemle, all tools included what you would need for first prints, even extra nozzle added, cutters, scraper.
Cant beleve how they got to this price, perfect for beginners to learn all about 3d printting, just please buy good quality PLA filame
Took a while to tune in but after that very good
I was really impressed with this printer but very disappointed the Elegoo never contacted me after I reached out to them. The printer is a solid 3-D printer based on the end of three design but slightly better printed straight out the box looking forward to this being restocked and Elegoo coming up with bigger and better in the future
Great price
Good size
Amazing quality prints from first print !!
Wow going to buy another !!!
Made the change from Resin to FDM and couldn’t be more happy with the level of quality this machine delivers at a fantastic price.
This printer is, in a word, fantastic. If I was to buy another low cost hobby printer in this formfactor, it’d be this no question. For the 150 price I paid, I could not have asked for any more from Elegoo.
I haven’t purchased from Elegoo before, but have seen and heard great things from their line of resin printers and so took a shot with their new FDM machine. I’m incredibly happy to say the least, built and printing in no time.
Only had a few small issues with it, mainly that the touch screen was glitchy when I switched it first on, however I reseated the display cable and it was working great. The fan in the base of the printer is also busted and now runs really loud, so will be replacing it. For the price though, I can forgive loudish fans – you don’t buy a printer for 150 and expect it to be absolutely perfect!
Just by chance I saw a video by Uncle Jesse on YT and after doing a bit of research I was about to order an Ender. I had been looking at the Elegoo resin printers but the mess and toxic nature of resin had put me off but I like the Elegoo brand and their products. So lucky for me I managed to snap up one of these Neptune 2’s at the 150 price and have been learning to work it since. I would say that you need to read the manual supplied and also watch the video supplied on the memory card as the paper instructions were missing the section on loading the filament. But once I’d set it up I have run the Buddha model which worked a treat, I’ve since printed a couple of little lizards and looking forward to making more things. All in all, it’s been a brilliant bit of kit for the price, I am even tempted to buy another when they come back into stock.
I am new to 3D printing, but so far the experience has been great. The assembly was simple and straightforward. Some of the screws were a bit loose after shipping, but it was an easy fix with the included tools. The setup took some time as there is no auto bed levelling, however after referring to the manual and some online guides I was off to the races. There was this included 3D model of Buddah for testing the printer with the included 5m of white PLA. Without changing any settings I ran the print, closely inspecting as it progressed. The material stuck to the bed well and the quality is suberb. Also, it ran suprisingly quietly. So for the price, so far, so good!
Item arrived packaged very well, and presented nicely, after around 40 min including bed levelling, I was up and running (slight issue as bed was wobbly, just loosened the 2 screws each side, held it down and tightened, all sorted).
I was amazed at the build quality and ease of building this printer.
Installed the elegoo cura set to petg and ran a few test prints, now I am comparing this to the following printers (A8, CTC A13, ender 3) ease of use is way above the a8 and A13.
And the touch screen puts this above the ender.
Print quality is on par if not slightly better than the ender, and far superior to the the other two printers.
If it wasn’t for the fans, I wouldn’t know it is printing let alone turned on.
The touch screen menu is easy to use and follow.
Out of the box the dimensional accuracy is spot on, 20mm x 20mm test cube printed at 20.05mm.
I wish I had bought more than one, while they were in stock.
This is an excellent machine for anyone new or experienced in 3d printing.
At the price I was not expecting this kind of quality.
Also, after checking the main board, there are slots available for bltouch and laser.
Whether these are supported in the firmware, I am not sure.
On a score of 1 to 10, I am giving elegoo 11, for low cost, fantastic build quality, noise reduction, touch screen, bltouch upgradeable, print quality.
It has it all.
Buy one when you can.
This is an update of the above review.
I have been printing nearly every day since Feb, I have not had a failed print or any issues with the printer except for one, an ERR5 error which was the hotend heater, got in touch with elegoo.
Very fast response and solution, customer service (Ken) is excellent just like their products.
will be changing my other machines out for these whenever I can get more.
