This is an excellent product firstly.
Recently I had need to contact customer services and the service I received was desisive and efficient.
This experience impressed me so much I felt I needed to publicly praise the service I received
This is a good quality outdoor camera, easy to setup and install. The image quality is pretty good even when you try zoom into a video. The spotlight is quite impressive considering how small the camera is, I only have a small garden but it managed to light up the whole garden. The built in alarm is very loud which is good. The person detection on the other hand is a bit sketchy, it seems to think my child’s water tray is a person so for the first night recorded for over 2 hours using 40% battery because a water tray was looking at it funny… On the bright side it charges itself back up.
I had the first version of the S40 and the original mount had 3 anchor points and was fully metal.
Camera was properly secure as you could tighten it up quite well and it did a perfect 90 degree angle.
Then I bought a 2nd one and it looks like it had a revision were the mount is half plastic and half metal.
The bit to tighten is also plastic so you need to be careful not to apply too much pressure.
The plastic part only has 2 anchor points not 3 like the previous one, also it does not do a 90 degree angle but more like a 100 or 110 degree angle.
This means if you have a place to put it and requires a 90 degree angle you will to need to make a wedge to compensate so you can have it straight. Attached is my first attempt at the wedge but still needs to be about double that.
Given the weight of the camera the original accessories were more adequate and higher quality.
Truly disappointed Eufy has started to cut corners.
First two photos are the original anchor.
The hanging camera on brick wall is the new anchor.
First of installing in minutes and all set up fast .
Image quality top notch
Also sound really good . Can pick up sounds from top off drive from side of my house even when this is set to the back of the house . I have the door bell and other eco system of this brand . All works grea
Quality really good easy to install and setup picture quality spot o
Having costed the fitting of a hard wired camera, and the cost of this solar edition, I found that the latter was vastly cheaper and had more options.
The camera was delivered and fitted in about 30 minutes and it is excellent. Drill two holes, screw on base and screw on camera – simple.
The quality of picture is sensational and any video clip is easily saved to Photos for future reference.
Added to this the siren and lights can be activated at any time.
Brillia
Very impressed with this camera, easily mounted and set up via the app on your phone.
Currently set to flash the inbuilt very bright flood light and record video should it be triggered by a human but there is also an option to sound an alarm too. The app allows you to set up active zones so as to minimize false alarms as well as ignoring animals, moving trees ect. The in built solar panel seems to be doing a great job of keeping the battery topped up as well even in a full January in Yorkshire
Great camera, bought it for its built in solar panel. Needed to realign it but that was eay due to the bracket supplied.
The coverage is good with good results during the evenings and nighttime.
Long term update,
Pro
Camera has clear footage day and night.
Person detection works and doesn’t pick up unwanted animal’s or cars.
Light and speaker work well.
Local storage.
Easy set up
User friendly app.
I used customer support and my experience with them was 5 star.
Battery life depends on different factors, I have found for me the battery life to be as described.
Con
Because the camera runs off a battery there is a slight delay in footage starting on person detection (spend time on set up to reduce this minor Con)
I don’t want to fuel concern about charge of battery, I love this product, great image day and night, compact, and ultra reliable connection. It is mounted with a clear view of the eastern sky, it is winter in the UK and it simply can’t get enough direct sunlight to maintain its charge. I have disabled features to preserve battery. But I am reassured by the capacity of the battery and the consumption rate, to be comfortable that it will run for months like this being boosted by the small amount of sunshine that it receives. The app is first class and has a dashboard that clearly shows the charge received and battery level leaving nothing to guess work. So far, very impressed.
Update 31 December.
It is slightly over one month since it was installed and the battery is now at 20%. I have just retrieved it and it is now being recharged. I am still impressed that it has run for this amount of time considering the miserable and cold weather there’s been here in Scotland through December with the level of sunshine decreasing. This sounds more like a weather forecast but the charge very much depends on it. Setting zones, no infrared or visible spotlight has eeked out the battery life. Camera quality is excellent, night and day, and connection continues to be bullet proof.
Stand alone , good battery life so far , too early to comment about the solar power because of it being winter and low light
A1 seems to work well
Got a good Black Friday deal on it
Its gone wrong already, night mare getting one notification after the other saying exactly the same as Shown in the photo must be about 100 at least, restarted it , reloaded the app turned off notifications , lost confidence in it already
I waited a good few months to review I can’t fault this from initial charge it lasted four months this was during the summer
During in winter I will have to charge more but I do have to say this is only because of where it is placed it’s not the best for the solar charging
If I could of placed it in full sun all day I don’t think it would need charging at all
The interface on the app is very good and easy to use also very easy to install and set up
Wanted a solar powered CCTV camera and one without a subscription. This one fits the bill nicely.
It took me a little while to set it up as we need it. The solar recharge is good.
Easy installation and love that it’s solar powered, even in Liverpool with cloudy skies it charges well. Only negative would be it doesn’t always pick up the passer-by straight away, takes about a second or so but other than that, no complaints! Flood light is very bright and picture quality is great.
Front of house including steps up to my front door. Night vision is as good as daylight. Night time in colour. Free storage also .Excellent piece of equipment so far. Bought this as a replacement for my Hive (piece of garbage camera)
Totally worth it with a discount price, ultra clear video and care free solar energy supply!
Already had a eufy doorbell and was wanting some garden security this camera is amazing no subscription needed great night & day vision picks up everything including sound the app is easy to use had has been good in all weather do far. Would definitely recommend the eufy cameras
Very good camera ,but I didn’t
used yet, because have problem
to connect to my WiFi
I have been waiting a couple of months to write the review of the s40 with me living in rainy Manchester I wanted to see how well the solar panel worked, I shouldn’t have worried like everything else bought from Eufy it just works, yes i had to play about with the app to get the sensitivity dialled in but since then i can’t moan about any thing the camera is clear in both b@w and colour both day and night times, the human detection works so i am not getting false notification’s all the time
It took me a while to write a review because I wanted to test the camera properly before doing so. Overall good product the picture quality for night and day is amazing. The features are great and the audio sound is clear when speaking to someone. Prior to buying this I buy an expensive ring doorbell wish was useless if you’re serious about proper security invest in this
This security camera is excellent, the customisation is excellent, from recording only human images or everything to adjusting video quality, sound levels and the maximum length of videos recorded, you can control it all, fitting is simple, follow the guidelines for the height, angle and direction for best results, the solar charging is really good, on cloudy days it still manages to maintain battery levels and tops it up sunny days, I have it covering the family cars and surrounding areas at the front of the house, it rarely goes offline and a quick refresh brings it back on, the motion detection is excellent, I can not find any fault with this security camera.
Got the eufy Solocam S40 wireless outdoor security camera to replace the eufy 2C security camera, to avoid the hassles of recharging it every 2 months.
– Built *****
The Solocam S40 is perfectly optimized by its size and shape, with a good capacity lithium battery and the solar panel to charge it continuously. The overall built is premium quality, neat and can stand against any weather, including the recent record high temperature.
– Solar Panel/Charging *****
After a 100% charge through the C USB before installing, the battery charge has been stable with a depletion of 1-2% and then effectively charges back to a 100%, over the last week since installed. The camera is installed with direct sunlight coverage.
– Performance
Camera *****
The 2K resolution camera captures clear and crisp videos with a zoom to clearly reveal facial features and car number plates at a reasonable distance. The playback is perfectly clear, except with an occasional snag when viewing remotely, which I believe is due to the internet connectivity level.
The video quality in color and infrared nigh vision is remarkably clear then the eufy 2C and other security cameras installed.
Storage*****
The 8GB storage in plenty with continuous storage and spontaneous playback. No SD cards required or the need to pay for cloud storage plans.
Spotlight *****
The 600 lumens spot light illuminates up to a decent range, improving the picture quality for facial recognition.
Motion Detection ***
I have noticed undetected motions and failed recording of the same, which poses a concern as this defeats the very purpose of having a security camera.
AI *****
The AI recognition feature is better then the eufy 2C, where no motion other then that set has been notified or recorded.
App/Settings *****
The eufy app makes it versatile to manage the Audio, Video, Motion Detection, Spotlight, Night vision and Notification settings with ease.
Overall a good quality security camera with high level of performance and ease of installing and management, although comes with a higher price tag, is worth the deal and even a better deal if bought on a discounted price during deals events.
Already own a Eufy Doorbell which has been excellent. So, I decided to add a couple of SoloCam S40s to my home setup. I especially like that there are no subscription fees for storing data unlike other providers – it’s stored locally in the camera! The camera is easy to set up and mount and produces a very clear image (both day and night). The motion detection is good and captures people well. I cannot comment on battery life as it’s too early to tell and we haven’t been through a UK winter with little sunshine! Overall, very impressed so far.
Easy to fit great battery capacity and charges with solar. Not charged it yet by the wire so would go for many weeks
This is the 2nd S40 I’ve installed at my gaff. They are great cameras.
Picture – no complaints. Flood light means even at night you can see clearly
Motion detection – only issue it has is if you position the camera centrally and someone walks towards it head on, it doesn’t always detect them. Simple solution, don’t position them centrally, move them to the side
Battery/solar charge – this is on the front and back of my house. The back one has been up for over a year and it at 100%. Yes it goes down a bit in the winter, but don’t obsess over it, just let it charge at its own pace. Even the UK has enough sun for these to be useful
Storage – ok so I would like cloud storage but guess that’s cost a subscription
Size – they are a bit bigger than normal camera’s due to the solar panel on the top, but they look good enough not to care about that.
I’ve mounted this on the side of my house overlooking our driveway and it only gets direct sunlight in the afternoon but so far the battery life has been superb. I put it up in early May 2022 and it’s not dropped lower than 98% as of July 2022 (I charged it fully before mounting). I’ll be updating this review in winter but in the meantime carry on reading below if you’re interested.
Picture and sound quality are excellent. I’ve set it to record the maximum 2 minute clip each time. At the end of each day I select all and delete the clips, literally takes 30 seconds to do but there’s tons of storage. I’ve set the activity zone to cover the driveway so the only footfall is myself and family or the neighbours kids fetching a ball or something. It’s made the detection each and every time.
I mute all notifications during the day as I work from home. You have 5 duration options to mute notifications up to a maximum of 12 hours.
My main reason for having this is to keep an eye on the cars on the driveway at night. Picture quality at night is also excellent. Whenever a detection is made the spotlight is set to automatically turn on brightening up the area.
All in all this an excellent piece of kit if you don’t want to wire up a security camera, not have to worry about having somewhere to store footage and charge device.
Easy set up. People detection very good. Light a lot brigher then I thought. Not cheap but impressed.
he product’s impression of product when it arrives, it is good, and then when I started the installation it seems just as described so easy and simple, all you have to do is following the instruction step by step. I tested it, and the image is so good, I can see clear video when someone triggered the sensor of it. It is totally worth buying. Oh, the solar panel charging, this is genius design! I don’t have to drill hole, and so many complicated wiring, just like plug and play! I have never think of a security camera can be this easy!
I am so happy with my purchase – easy to install with excellent motion detection and picture quality. Solar power in a huge benefit and cost saving. Fully recommend this camera.
This is exectly how modern security system should work. Wireless. Reliable. Free access to the history.
I had been getting tonnes of kits from Anker and had been very satisfied since. This security camera is one another sweet kit. The built quality of the camera is solid and the dedign pretty tidy. I am particularly satisfied with Anker making it totally local and standalone running. No more worries of uploading clips online and getting storage plans. The camere has a bulit-in battery and a solar panel. This is very favourable when you want to put it in your backyard where electical fitting was not prviously planned.
Great product, really easy to set up. Smooth real time video and quite enjoyed it so fa
Very easy to install. The picture quality is great and covers a large area which can be adjusted to suit. Has yet no false notification’s so quite happy. Battery has not dropped below 98percent power but will have to see what it’s like in winter.
I’m happy with the camera
The simple design, integrated with solar panels, is a very good feature for me, which can not only save me the trouble of buying and installing separate solar panels independently, but also greatly reduce my battery life anxiety. My camera power has been maintained at 100%, which is undoubtedly an innovative product
However, you need to install the camera in a position where it can get full solar light. Once installed correctly, it will always watch over your home, recommended
Used this camera as added security and the set up was pretty quick, good graphics and sound as well, overall pleased
The camera is great! A bit bigger than expected but the sound an image quality are great, including night time. Whomever is saying that I’d doesn’t charge properly didn’t install it correctly or it’s N facing. My back garden is S-E and since I bought the camera almost 2 weeks ago it always stays to 100%. The only downside is that the mounting system can’t hold the camera properly in place due to its weight and it went a bit lower than it was initially installed.
Videos quality is awesome, and easy to set app.Very robust and efficient at night. Mode setting is great and loads of features in app. No monthly subscriptio
i am going to give you a 5 star review as you are quick simple to install, instruction guide was pretty clear and in multi-languages (Though English satisfy me well), as well as setup in your phone was pretty straight forward, download, register and add device was so simple one step to plug and play. As well as the 2k resolution gives me a perfect image. The only bad point which i am the one to be blame for is a wall drilling tool i had to borrow from my neighbor (Thanks Dan) .
Recently bought it after returning another one from another brand wich was simpy trash.
So far is installed for 4 days but already i can say that i am happy with it,yes you pay more than the rest of them but is well worth it comparing to the other cheaper ones.the quality of the video is very good even in the night mode, normal one or the colour one the flah light from the camera is very bright and the motion detection is on point without false alarms.
The other important point that surprised me was the battery, enev though is was almost all the time cloudy it still managed to recharge enought for the battery not to drop in these 4 days wich is surprising for me,the last one i had went from 100%to 0% in 10 days so yes a big plus.
Give it a try if you want something good
I am not a security camera expert but this is a competent piece of equipment. Yes, you must have Wi-Fi and a little bit of sunshine occasionally but Wi-fi is common with most cameras. So long as you have Wi-fi range you can install the camera virtually anywhere. Mine even works well at the near the bottom of my garden a good 40 to 50 feet away. (15 metres plus). The beauty is that you can walk about holding the camera to see if it works in a particular spot because it does not require a power point. The picture quality is superb and even using the infra red at night is very clear. The built in light will even enable night shots in colour but I turn the light off to help keep the camera inconspicuous but obviously it can be seen during the day. Viewing the footage on a smartphone is easy and can be downloaded for storage on a computer etc. or sent via Watts App. Recordings are stored on the internal memory until you are ready to view them. You can view a “live” shot at any time. My only criticism is that I would have liked a larger field of detection for motion. The activity area is adjustable and not just as a rectangle but the subject is fairly close when first detected although once detected it stays in view over a greater area. I am so pleased with this camera that I have ordered a second one for the other side of the house. The remote access when away from home is a bit iffy and won’t let me log in and I see others have had the same problem but overall I am more than pleased with this piece of kit. Not a cheap outlay but no monthly costs to pay and easy to install anywhere within Wi-fi range. Battery seems to charge even in weak sunlight and there is a battery meter in the app so you can keep an eye on it.
PS: Have realised that you can view camera through the app without signing in to Eufy when away from home and you still get alerts through mobile data. First class.

I really liked this camera! Got one for front and one backyard. So easy to set up and mount! Great video quality, great night vision. The app is easy to use. Highly recommend!!
Ive just ordered a second from Amazon, having brought one in October.
The solar panel works very if you position the camera correctly and I’ve not been below 45% battery all winter and I have the settings and brightness to maximum. Having finally had a few days of winter sun it’s back to 55% battery and with the days getting longer and brighter it will return to 100%.
The light on the camera is very good and helps late at night finding the door key.
The camera footage and quality is very good.
No more expensive batteries to buy or having to climb ladders to replace them.
The view the picture and sound is bright but best of all self charging. I love the eufy cameras and doorbell system.
A great little camera with no cloud storage fees and perfect for our location with not electricity source. I’m very impressed!
Very good camera. I don’t understand what those are saying about holding charge. I’ve been using it since September it maintained 100% charges until mid November and now in mid December it is at 93%. I have it on the front door so it is recording comings and goings all day long. That’s really impressive imo. I have it set for optimal life but the light comes on with motion at night. I’ve played around with the sensitivity and capture area and I have to say that now it seems to be very reliable. Great buy I’d say! Now march and my charge is back to 100% – outstanding
Yes, it may seem pricey compared to other cameras but this one is worth every penny. Just the fact that it is solar-powered alone with a very high capacity battery fully integrated, makes this a worthy purchase. Even in the inclement weather, we are experiencing at the moment, it is successfully keeping the battery well within the optimum 40-80% charge range for a Li-Ion battery. Very impressed also with the build quality and weatherproofing so far. Only time will tell how good it really is over a longer period. The EufySecurity app that goes with it (from the Google Play Store or Apple AppStore) is excellent and very comprehensive providing just about any functionality and feature access you can think of for any good security camera setup. The resolution is excellent and zooming in within the app reveals facial detail easily. The built-in storage of 9Gb will be sufficient for most (using the optimum settings related to good battery usage) I would suggest. I could write a comprehensive review 4 times longer than this but you’d probably get bored reading it. Suffice to say that if you want the best available security camera for the home, this is probably as close as you are going to get to that goal for the price of 199.
IMPORTANT: You MUST fully charge this camera to 100% (as per the included instructions) BEFORE even trying to install it in the intended location. That location should be in a place where the solar cell top surface is at least facing roughly southwards if possible. (added because of other review comments)
Update 09/12/21: I have now installed two of these cameras that were both fully charged to 100% before installation. Both cameras have an approximately southward facing view. The first camera was installed on October 13th and since then its battery has only just fallen to below 70% charge (69% actual) this evening; even though there haven’t been many sunny days over the last couple of months. The “Working Mode” is set to “Optimal Battery life” since it is winter (recommended for the UK) which gives a video clip length of 20 secs. The mode will be set to “Optimal Surveillance” once Spring arrives (60-second clips). The second camera was installed on the 23rd November and there has been almost no sunshine in South Yorkshire since then and yet it has only just dropped to 87% charge today; which is still 7% above its optimum top limit charge for a Li-Ion battery. This with almost no sun at all. I would suggest from this evidence that the solar (and ordinary daylight) charging regime in these cameras is easily up to the job of keeping these excellent cameras operational through the winter without having to dismount them for a recharge (which you can do if required). Contrary to other reviews here. I hope this helps.
