Good for the money. I only use it as a hobbyist so this is not a full technical review. Easy to set up and use. Good instruction booklet. I recommend you bolt it down. The motor is a bit loud and there is a bit of recoil to it but nothing serious.
I have mounted this on a portable workbench I made and it is excellent value for money and a quality produc
This is my first order with Amazon and I am impressed all around.
Received the mitre saw within 24h from the order.
The mitre saw is very good quality for the price, good set of accessories and instructions.
I have been using it to build a swing frame and as managed well all straight and angled cut.
Very happy all around.
I have been very impressed with this mitre saw. The blade provided cuts wood beautifully and leaves a great smooth finish with minimal tearout – I have cut some soft metals too and it does this beautifully without leaving it hot to the touch.
Takes a bit to get the saw nice and accurately set up, but one youtube video later and it was good to go.
While I have no issues with this saw almost 6 months on from purchase, I do kind of regret buying it and not buying a sliding mitre saw in it’s place. But I do highly recommend this saw for a beginner and wont replace it until it’s no longer usuable!

Utterly fantastic! The accuracy and speed cutting through pine is outstanding. Saved me hours of work today. Only downside is that it doesn’t move back and forward.
This is one of the best mitre saws I’ve used, easy to use with simple switching to angle cuts, blade supplied cuts through pretty much anything fantastic value for money
Bought for work, due to covid 19 not yet used, but looks the part.
Good price, easy to set up and use. Iam no carpenter but I used for my daughters kitchen successfully.
I use these just for cutting rolled steel and they are fine, just have to calibrate the blade before using which can be a pain.
Brilliant, precise & practical for household DIY, my husband has built a garden bar with absolute ease, he very much recommends this product.
Wonderful saw, has made cutting wood accurately so much easier than with a hand saw, definitely worth the investment!
Dislikes none, likes , clean cut on wood no set up needed , blade was plumb and square straight out of the box, have yet to try mitres and bevels
I needed a new mitre saw and this one he good reviews and now I have used it a few time’s I can say it is excellent and I would highly recommend
Fantastic compound miter saw. I was debating whether to get this as the price was so low and it doesn’t slide. However this was a great buy. The saw folds down for storage and is really compact. It’s also very light and can bolted down to be very sturdy.
For most jobs this is sufficient and I will probably use this alot. The blades are really good as it can even cut through nails. For recycled pallet projects this is bees knees.
Only downside is there is no laser sight. So for mitre and beveled cuts it takes time to figure out where the cut line will be and the also work out where the blade cut is. Standard cross cuts are not an issue. But laser sight will definitely help. For the price cannot ask for it all.
UPDATE:
Been a month in and I have used this for a few projects already.
I have used this with bevel angle cuts. Without a laser sight I was struggling to get perfect REPEATED mitre cuts. However, if you glue (temporary) a scrap thin board to the base and then make your first mitre cut on the board. It will show where the cut line is. Set a stop on the cut line and miter away.

Bought the cheaper model and I am more than happy, takes some setting up but there’s a particular user’s video on YouTube if you search for the saw model, really helps.
Handy for those little jobs nice and easy to move around
Brilliant machine , arrived early. Perfect for what we need , highly recommend
I downgraded from the R255SMS+ to this and it`s 10 times better. The latter was big, heavy and clumsy. As it is only for diy I should never have bought it. I saw this one in B&Q and it was love at first sight. Came home and ordered it. All I do miss is the laser but apart from that It`s light, compact and easy to handle. What could be better.
This is a good little chopsaw. It is lightweight and easily portable, only used it on wood so far but does a very nice cut. There is a youtube video showing how to set the saw up it is worth watching. It is perfect for the job I bought it for, laying a wood floor, herring bone pattern, but at 45 degrees it only just cuts the 90mm wide planks. Due to its small size and lightweight it will be very handy for site work but may end up getting a bigger version for the workshop.
Love it! Really sturdy and really accurate cutting. Great saw.
Can’t see how they can do this for this price excelle
For my needs (not a very ambitious hobbyist) it is a perfect mitre saw. Perfect angles 90 and 45, low price, nice blade. Usually you change blade after baying a new disk saw, NOT with Evolution – use as it is!
Recommend good small robust saw will do all my jobs with ease recommend
This was brought to cut some skirting boards which it done well. For the occasional user this will be an ideal choice but I doubt it will stand up to constant professional use. I believe this is reflected in the price, the multi type blade is a bonus for the occasional user as it will save switching for different materials.
Arrived early. The quality of this tool is far above what it cost. There are three adjustment screws one must use to calibrate this saw to make accurate cuts. If one adjusts these screws as recommended, then the cuts are perfect. In short, an incredibale purchase considering the price. It’s well made and the price is unbeatable.
Strong motor and clean tidy cut on the steel sections I had to cu
Excellent. Accurately set up, out of the box.
Easy to use.
I’m not planning to cut anything but wood. So cannot comment on other materials. I would never use a chop saw for hard plastics however.!
The clamp is poor quality and limits the thickness of the wood you can cut so I chucked this away, you can cut wood that is about 5.5 inch wide, more if you turn it over and do a second cut. Without the clamp you can cut through soft wood over three inches but you need good support for the wood so tread with care. If you pull the blade guard back – dangerous so be careful – BEFORE turning on the motor then you can cut four inches of wood (the guard cocked back so it sits on the wood and REMOVE your fingers before turning on!)
The blade is not especially sharp so I would not use it without the clamp for anything that might bite back such as hard wood or metal, you do not get a totally clean cut and need to go over the edge with sandpaper to clean it up if on view after construction.
Nevertheless, I much prefer the light weight and compact size of this to the previous slider version that I had, wore out the sliders on that and it was always awkward to carry through the house and store. A sharper blade and more accommodating clamp would increase this to five stars.

one very happy hubby. Found this tool has features he wasn’t expecting, and a very reasonably price
Cutting 5 “skirting board, easy to use for an do it yourself chap, the only snag I found was it only cuts at 45 degrees one way, scratchy head time, but worked it out. In the whole great value for money
As good as it gets for 60.
Gets the job done on my solid oak floor boards lightning speed and accuracy.
Works fine for me. Not used one before so I can’t compare with other makes.
Spinny thing goes round, up and down thing goes up and down, wood gets cut. Did all this whilst outside in the rain as well. Last part not recommended.
Good basic level chop saw.
If doing lots of joinery demanding quality finish would probably go for a larger higher spec but this does the basic stuff well.
A little bit small, but very good value for money. Very fast shipping.
This Compound Mitre saw is Brilliant, it cuts, like a hot knife through butter, it really is that good.
I love it, and would recommend it to all and sundry.
Price is really good as well, and delivery was ‘spot on’ with the time and date given.
The angles cut are true as can be, and joints fit just perfectly.
Nice little saw. Happy with the purchase. It has a couple of limitations, but quiet accurate out of the box, and can’t argue with the price, especially when on offer. Perfect for DIYers. It will make the finished project look much neater than if you try it with hand saws etc. One successful project and you’ll be happy you bought i
Good value for money.
Cut wood easily. The clamp is rubish.
Ovetall does the job and very compact.
I love the look and weightyness of product. Not flimsy. Used it yesterday and worked perfect.
Haven’t had the opportunity to use this machine just yet but it looks really sturdy and controls easy to use. Real bargain.
This is a great bit of kit but you really need the Evolution stand. I bought the saw from Amazon because it was cheaper than Screwfix and also comes with the 24T blade not the 20T but the stand was 19 cheaper at Screwfix!
It is important to follow the set up procedure available on YouTube if you need accuracy. There are many adjustments to allow the angles to be set. It cuts mitres and bevels or a combination of both.
I bought this to cut oak spindles on my new staircase. The cuts are very clean and accurate. I found that it is better to cut slowly for best results and make sure when cutting you keep your arm in line with the blade. This is because it is possible to move the blade very slightly side to side. It must be remembered that this is a budget cutter although it is built to a good standard. I’ve cut 32 oak spindles and all the spacers and there is no significant wear on the blade. It will cut through metal but I shall use mine for wood.
Overall I don’t know how I ever managed without one!

Great lightweight saw, this replaced an older version which got worn out. Easy to use and transport to site, makes accurate cuts once adjusted using a good right angle square. Cuts wood with ease and most metals. If your cutting metals feed the blade down slowly and don’t push, let the teeth do the work. Excellent value when on special offer.
Really Nice tool. Tiny size but highly capable to do most of hobbyist tasks. I highly recommend.
I bought this chopsaw for building the decking area and hand rails Plus made my own garden fence. The first thing I decided to do was to get a offcut of a kitchen worktop, then I drilled for holes in the underneath of the worktop using a spade bit, I made sure that the holes matched the plastic pegs you get with your Black & Decker workbench or workmates whatever brand. Then I mounted the chopsaw to the kitchen worktop ensuring that the product was stable and easy to use. Now I can use this chopsaw anywhere I choose to place it with the workbench. Cleaning this device was very easy once I had finished with it I just got a big brush and cleaned off the XS area including the blade. The safety guard and safety mechanism was very good on this device. Angle accuracy and cutting of this device was very good, I would definitely purchase this device again well worth The money. Also the clamp works very well insuring to hold the piece of wood in place.

Great value for money. One blade cuts wood plastic metal
Hit a mid life crisis and decided to built a shed from scratch. I wish i had’nt ,but i could not have done it without this baby. Accurate and very easy to use for someone like me with very limited (if any!) skills in joinery.
I cut 3mm mild steel, 50x50mm, first cut was impressive the rest required more force, the rest off the cuts were 1-2mm off. Its a good starting saw, and providing you can diy a guide of sort to account for the slight inaccuracies it will get the job done, however for industrial purposes where absolute precision is a must perhaps a different saw would be required.
Like everything about it the only dislike is my son borrowed it and will not return i
Excellent tool, should have bought one years ago Used it to cut to size timber to repair a fence. Each cut took a millisecond instead of a couple of minutes with a hand saw.
This saw is great to have set out on your work bench as a permanent fixture, do to its small footprint. It doesn’t take up a lot of room and has an accurate cut without excessive tear out.
Although somewhat lacking when it comes to cutting larger timber, it is perfect for smaller jobs, and I now almost never have my bigger more cumbersome Makita sliding mitre saw on the bench. One thing I would say is that if you are considering it for a bench top, I have it on old kitchen worktop and if not secured down the base just slide about. Quickly solved by putting some bolt through the mounting holes and the worktop.
For 50 its a steal really.

Cant fault this cut all machine wish i bought one many years ago, strong and very versatile, Recommended.
Good saw, used it a lot on metal. My only real issue with it is the blade size is a hard to find in local hardware places. The stick blade dulls after a short while on steel, still good for wood.
Not a bad buy but would buy a bigger model.Bought this for cutting wooden flooring but the width was short and had to turn flooring too make complete cut.Cuts angles accurately.
Got this to help with woodwork whilst redecorating our bedroom. Really it’s brilliant value for money, did all the Moody’s required and after a quick clean it’s ready for the next project.
Easy to use and store great for what i need it for. Works well with nice clean cuts.
Nice action really neat cut I’ve only used it for wood and pvc pipe not metal its a neat fairly small saw cuts 3by2 max wood
Made a potential headache of a job a lot more manageable. Loads of videos on you tube to help with a perfect set up. Made making my niche as seen in the photos a pleasure.
I bought a new house and want to install the floor myself. So bought this item, it is very easy to use and very safe. Recommended
Cuts all that the spec says, the cuts are clean and precise, a great tool.
After several weeks of use I can say that it’s overall very good two main problems are:
1. Although I knew I’m buying 8 inch blade, The cut depth is not great.
2. The blade guard isn’t open properly. It causes me to help it open up while the saw is working. Pretty dangerous…
Very happy with the item and is worthed, for doing work at home mostly like I will use it for Sturdy material ..
I was surprised on opening the box just how small it is. I checked it out using engineering equipment and found it was accurate to within 0.001 of an inch. I have never come across anything this accurate before. I tried it out on some scrap wood, the cuts were very smooth. I made up a jig for precise measuring and I can honestly say that I am extremely happy I bought it. I suppose for a professional man this might be classed as a toy but for the hobbyist, its ideal.
This is a good saw at a good price. You have to carry out a few adjustments before use to ensure the cuts are accurate and square. This involves using set square against the blade and base and adjusting stop screws with allen keys (not supplied). You also need to either mount it on a piece of board to make it portable, or permanently fix to a worktop, it should not be used free standing as supplied.
Setup does not take long and is fairly easy and only has to be done once. In use it is a good saw, the only problem is that it does not cut the size of wood specified because the guard does not move fully out of the way and fouls on larger wood. You have to move the guard manually when that happens which could be dangerous. However for smaller wood it works well.
This piece of equipment is superb. Solidly built, looks good with excellent safety features. Well designed, easy to operate and speeds up workflow when cutting wood at different angles. Purchase a decent workbench at the same time, if you can and this will last a lifetime or so it would seem.
Brilliant little evolution mitre saw that’s powerful and compact with all the features you need for doing many tasks.
Quite a lot smaller than I was expecting. If I’d looked properly I’d probably have gone for the one with a slide.
It’s only day one so I can’t comment on durability but the cuts that I was worried about are great.
If they have uploaded in order, the first cut I made was to trim the end of a 20x20mm length of spalted beech. The first image is the original rough end of the wood, the rest show the almost perfectly clean cut made by the standard rage blade. I got the diamond blade too in case the toothed one was to rough. Looks like I won’t be needing it. It’s clean and barely any tearing. I was half expecting it to chew the thin sliver up but it’s fine. It’s about 3mm thick.
The release to pull the blade down and the trigger to start it are uncomfortably close to each other. You should be able to use your full grip to press your thumb on the release but the trigger is in the way. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but is prefer to bring the blade to the wood before starting it.
The clamp is okay, if a bit small. Tou can move it from one side to the other but there is only one. The knobs to release the sliding back plate and the loxk/rotation on the blade feel a little small and there is a bit of a plasticy feel to the blade guard. Overall I like it so far but it is only day one.
Love my new chop saw, Evolution seem to be getting it right with their range of saws and this one is perfect for little jobs, very transportable and I like the safety features, I’ve cut skirting, architrave, plastic waste, angle iron – nothing seems to phase this saw. Highly recommended and great value for the money.
Used loads since buying as building decking great product and the blade that comes with it is brillia
A very handy tool to have When you cannot set-up a full size sliding cross cut saw. It is compact in size but has no problem cutting through any wood or light metal framework etc. It has replaced my handsaw for cutting 4″x2″ timber and similar sized wood.
It cuts wood with nails in it thanks to the blade Evolution puts in all their saws, though I would use a purpose made metal cutting saw for doing this on a regular basis. It is easy to carry in the car, due to it’s small size and light enough to move with one hand. I have basically given up using a hand saw, jigsaw or circular saw for cutting timber to the correct length since getting this saw, plus the cuts are accurate for 90 degrees every time, Something that is almost impossible with a hand saw.
It also fits on a mobile workbench easily enough, so no dedicated stand is needed, unlike my full size sliding mitre saw. It’s the sort of tool that once you use it for a few jobs, you cannot imagine going without it. The only thing I would have liked is if it was fitted with a laser for lining up cuts too a pencil mark, but measuring with a tape or putting the blade down onto the marked wood before cutting is easy enough. I’ve been ‘spoilt’ by the laser on my full size sliding saw so lining up the cuts with this saw needs a bit of ‘old school’ measuring.
Other than the lack of a laser line, I cannot find anything bad about this saw in use, but it does cost a lot less than a full size machine so fair enough. One other thing though, you do need to check for how square the blade is cutting and adjust it accordingly if needed, using the small screws provided on the machine.
An incredibly handy tool to have and I highly recommend it. If you need to cut T&G flooring boards, you will need to buy the sliding mitre version of this saw, as the width of the cut isn’t big enough for this width of material without the sliding feature. So plan what jobs you may do in the future and maybe go for that version instead.
Update: Still a very good tool after 3 years, but recently had to set up a friends recently bought version aswell, as the blade was not square too the wood. Only took a few minutes to do, but surely it wouldn’t take much to make a jig at the factory to set things up before shipping? It isn’t rocket science is it.
Great saw. Does the job perfectly and can even cut metals.
Great little Mitre Saw, goes through wood like butter. Excellent for the job I’m doing.
Make sure you order the correct voltage though, thought I was getting a 240volt machine, I got a 110volt.
Good job I had a transformer.
Really good product, price good, nice and light to carry anywhere to the place your working.
just what i wanted, very handy for chopping wood for my wood burne
very good but i would buy the bigger model instead
Arrived promptly and as described. It works very effectively and has made a home construction project fun, rather than hard work. Very happy to recommend.
very powerful and easy to use diy saw love i
Bought to cut down aluminium rails for kitchen installation and quite amazed by the cleanness of the cuts even though the frames are awkward shapes.
Long sleeves and suitable eye protection are ESSENTIAL when cutting metal.
I was quite surprised at how compact this unit is, which not only means it is easy to use in tight spaces, but also makes storing it much easier. However, despite its size it feels hardy and its cutting power is fantastic and the sawn edge is left nice and smooth. The only downside is that the small blade size means you are limited as regards the width of what you can cut, although with some larger planks you can obviously turn them around and cut from the other side.
Very happy with this saw very quick to cut wood and very clean cu
ice little saw after buying the fixing bars from evolution now even more handy sits on bench and evolution table to cut nice and clea
I have never had an electric saw so was excited to see how much time this evolution tool would save me when carrying out some diy. I have not been disappointed. This electric saw is incredibly simple to set up and use, cuts through and other materials simply with a minimum of mess and effort.
Impressed.
Love it solid and simple to use already save me hours
The saying “buy cheap, buy twice” certainly has some truth to it, but you have to put it into context. If you’re someone who’s going to be using this day in, day out, and will be chucking it into the back of the van after a hard days work –then this probably isn’t for you. Dig deep and get a DeWalt or Makita…
However if, like me, you’re only going to use this every now and then and spending a few hundred on a pro-level model seems like overkill, then this is a good shout. Out of the box it’s surprisingly compact, and while the base is metal, most of the rest of it is plastic, but it feels reasonably solid in any case. Although it’s probably going to be used a 90 for the most part it can be angled and tilted, but while the rotating base clicks into position there can be a small bit of play — so check your angles on a bit of scrap first. The release paddle and trigger button fall to hand and the blade cuts cleanly (so long as you don’t force it through). Wood, plastic and thin metal tubes have all been cut with ease (I’ve not tried steel though).
Overall a good choice that should last occasional users years, but jobbing workpeople may want something more heavy duty.
I have a couple of evolution saws and they usually work well, with good clean cutting and fair accuracy. Straight out of the box I used this small saw to cut some pine strips and a fairly solid piece of mahogany that was 5 inches wide by just about 2 inches thick. The timber was just a bit too wide, but I managed to cut through in two passes, having turned the wood over after the first cut. Realistically, 4 x 2 is about the largest dimension that you can reasonable cut with this saw. Both cuts to pine and the hardwood were sharp, very clean and also square without the need to set the saw up first. This is impressive, although I know from experience that the saw blades do not stay as sharp as this for very long, but continue to cut well enough for some considerable time depending how much use they get. I have been using one saw with the same blade for well over a year that I have, on occasion, cut small sections of steel, although I wouldn’t use it for fine joinery, it still cuts for basic carpentry work. So, all-in-all, this is a good saw and it cuts well. It can be adjusted to cut different angles to 90 degrees, both horizontally and vertically, making it a versatile tool in the workshop for small scall timber and for both soft and hard woods.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been working with my son to build some solid oak shelves to fill an unused doorway at my mum’s house. The oak planks are about 2.5cm thick and 20cm deep. As we built the shelves it became apparent that the doorway isn’t square, so they needed to be cut with at about 89 degrees on the left and 87 degrees on the right, then they slot right in.
The Evolution R210 sat in its box for a week because I was kind of dreading the setup process – surely there would be lots of unwrapping stuff, following instructions to put it all together.
But it turned out that my worries were for nothing, you pull the R210 out of the box and it’s pretty much ready to start sawing. Obviously we read the instructions, but you don’t really need to, I didn’t find any surprises. With a product like this it’s largely about staying safe. I have a hand-held circular saw which just frightens me, and by contrast when I’m handling the R210 I haven’t encountered any issues that gave me cause for concern.
While sawing our oak planks we were a little unimpressed by the clamp system that holds your workpiece onto the saw base. It’s hard to tighten the clamp up enough and our planks of wood had a tendency to move a tiny amount. We overcame this by having both me and my son holding our planks of wood firmly, and managed to make every single cut exactly the way we wanted, so it’s not such a big criticism.
The one thing I’d like to improve would be figuring out where your actual saw cut will be in your plank of wood. You can do this by eye with the saw turned off, bringing it down to touch your piece of wood and check that the saw cut will be where you want it, but there are other saws that shine a laser onto your wood telling you where the saw cut will be, and I think it’s worth considering spending more for such a feature.
The R210 is a cost-effective saw, well made, and allowed us to make consistent precise cuts in our pieces of wood.
I’m not a tradesperson just a simple hobbyist/DIYer but what I can say about this saw is, that for the money, it is brilliant.
I don’t really want to write any more than that as that captures exactly what I think and all that I want to express about it; it is without doubt the best saw I’ve owned but I have to confess that the reason that I say this is because for the first time ever I’ve made a damn good job of mitre cuts!
However, this saw is so much more; it’s powerful, it’s multi-positional (it cuts in many different lockable directions) it’s got a decent weight to it without being too heavy, and it feels solid plus it also comes with a warranty that lasts 36 months! .these days you’re hard-pressed to find any warranties lasting longer than 12 months, so I reckon the company that made this must feel pretty confident that this saw will last well beyond that (after all, who would warranty their product for three years if that’s all they expected it to last?).
It needs to be bolted down onto some surface to give it stability in use which can be either be a workbench or (very handy for tradespeople on a mobile stand”Evolution Mitre Saw Stand with Extensions”) as currently sold on Amazon for 54.99.
I’ve found this very easy to use and the fact that the cutting disc can go through a wide range of materials makes this a go to saw for many purposes.
I also happen to like that the user guide in printed only in English, in a decent enough size to read, rather than in 12 different languages that you need a magnifying glass to read the micro-print.
Overall: I’m supremely impressed.
This is a very decent saw for the price. I only a novice at using this type of saw so I can’t really add much to the many detailed reviews so i will just confirm that I am quite impressed by it and for an unskilled beginner like me it is fairly simple and safe to use. For my requirements it has been enough. There were no difficulties in using it or cleaning it up.
My eye was caught by the word “compact”, as I’ve always wanted a saw like this but they seemed too large. Not so in this case, and it even fits on my fairly narrow workbench without much of a problem at all.
The second thing I noticed is that the blade that comes with this unit can go through wood with nails (!) with a 50mm / 2″ cutting depth, adequate for what I ever need it for (at the moment, putting in enhancements to a large cat run in my garden). For bigger bits of wood (width-wise) you may have to do the cut in two parts, flipping the wood over between (part) cuts, which actually works very easily and is not a big constraint at all for me. I haven’t dared try cutting a piece of wood with nails in it (I’m sure it would work but I can’t afford a new blade if it doesn’t) but I’m sure the time will come. The cut is very smooth and clean (not to mention at perfect right-angles or whatever you have set it to), far better than with a handsaw. This means I can now mitre my joints 100% rather than the rough and ready job with a hand saw (even an electric reciprocating one).
Whilst cutting there not a huge amount of sawdust generated from the port but as I sometimes jamb a vacuum cleaner hose onto it, it makes cutting even cleaner.
I wish I had had this when I was constructing my cat run initially (4m x 2m) it would have made the cuts much quicker, cleaner and neater.
The R210 CMS Evolution Mitre Saw has the capability to cope with cutting wood ,plastics and metal and even wood with nails in it and a capacity to take wood up to 125mm x35mm.
I used it to cut skirting boards with a 45 degree mitre and it provides an accurate clean edge.
I had some concern and frightened myself the first time I powered it on. It is possible to activate the blade by squeezing the top orange lever without simultaneously depressing the lower orange lever to lower the blade. This is a usual safety feature of other power devices such as hedge trimmers. I have activated it a number of times by accident before I was ready to lower and cut. It can even be accidentally switched on in the locked down storage position. I notice that there is a safety hole on the switch in which a nail could be fitted to prevent this but this is not mentioned in the documentation. I have now started doing this as routine.
That aside I found it easy to use once I became familiar with setting up the angles of cut and the clamp positioning.
At about 16 inches wide and 14 inches deep I do not have space to leave it permanently bolted to a work bench and followed the advice in the manual for portable use. I attached the machine to two lengths of decking board which can be quickly secured to my work bench using G clamps.
This is a compact, highly portable 210mm / 8.25″ mitre saw with just a few drawbacks.
Worth noting when you take it out of the box the bed is clearly not centred horizontally, but it’s also not 100% true vertically, though this is much less obvious and you might not notice until you go to make your first cut, so watch out for that. What? Me? No, of course I spotted this straight away. Ahem.
I’ve been using it for about a week and have yet to run into anything it won’t handle. In general it’s pretty intuitive, although I was scratching my head a bit with the locking pin holding the blade down – I had to get some pliers to loosen it up, but it’s been fine since.
There’s a single “top down” clamp which can be swapped from one side to the other as required – you’ll also have to swap over the locking bolt. The clamp is probably the least impressive bit and I would charitably describe it as adequate. It’ll only get to within a few inches of the blade, so if you need to cut something smaller you’ll have to get creative and maybe clamp a piece of wood on top of it – obviously, be sensible about it.
There’s a bag to put over the dust extraction port – the port itself doesn’t seem to be to any standard, so if you plan to attach a shop vac you may be reaching for some duct tape.
For the money I’m really impressed with this.
The Evolution R210-CMS multi purpose compound mitre saw is one of those tools that you really want but probably have limited use for and might struggle to justify buying. It is however ideal for those smaller jobs and is small enough not to take up too much space if you have limited storage space. Before use you should clamp it or bolt it into place on your work bench.
It runs off 230V and has enough wattage at 1100 so that it can handle most small scale jobs and cut through steel, softer metals and wood. Having used it to cut some aluminium brush strip, wooden decking and soft steel the ‘one blade cuts all’ worked well with very little heat build up in the cut material.
Point to note is that on the aluminium brush strip and soft steel the cuts were clean with minimal burring. Quite impressive and what burring there was, was easily removed.
Cutting hardened steel, high carbon steel or heat treated steel is to be avoided with this blade.
The 0-45 degree marked angles are accurate and it can handle the advertised 5cm (1.9 inches) cutting depth and 12cm (4.7 inches) width. You have to remember this is really a domestic piece of equipment. A four by two is the maximum it will cope with.
Don’t forget your safety glasses when cutting, while there are covers to catch debris and a dust bag there is alway the risk of a wayward splinter.
It has a worthy 3 year guarantee possibly down to the fact that its not going to be used day in day out and the price is very reasonable for what you get. Do consider what size materials you want to cut and whether this meets your needs.
This saw cuts through wood as if it is butter. Just clamp the work piece to the base, and gently drop the blade through it.
The finish on cut wood is fantastically even; there’s very little sawdust too.
The same blade is supposed to cut through plastic and metal, meaning that you don’t need to swap blades for a multi-material job.
The blade can be tilted sideways for mitred cuts and there is an easy to read scale to indicate your cutting angle. The saw can also be rotated over the base to cut across any angle.
The safety guard wraps around the cutting edge, but is automatically withdrawn as the saw is lowered, which helps to protect amateurs like me from accidental amputations.
Obviously the piece that you cut must be able to fit under the whole saw blade.
I am really impressed with this compact mitre saw. It comes ready set up with a multi-purpose blade so you are all set to go. It very easy to set the angle of the cut apart from a tendency to go slightly beyond the vertical. The blade gave me clean cuts on pine and mdf and I even cut through a bit of copper pipe when testing. It has provision for attaching extraction, and the clamp seems to hold the product to be cut solidly. Evolution do a 110v version – which has a 60mm cut (this only has 50mm), but for the domestic market this is the one to go for if you don’t need a full size version. It is made in China – but the 3 year warranty is reassuring. I like it.
Normally I reserve the term cute for fluffy animals but if you are used to using a large compound mitre saw then this is definitely cute. I have been rebuilding my 30’s semi room by room and have been using compound mitre saw extensively for the past 10 years. I had a cheap Wickes one which did not last long and I have been using a Rexon 14″ which is twice the size of this one and twice the weight.
This Evolution Compound Mitre saw is really compact. If you are limited in storage space or doing up a small flat then this will really be a great addition to your tool collection. With all tools they spend 99% of their time in a cupboard so it is important that you have space to store it….. This tool is only 40cms long by 25cms and so is really compact.
So great it is easy to store but then for that 1% when you use the tool this fully justifies the space it takes up. This blade easily cuts 125×55—so 4″x2″ (and some) in old money. It cuts through this wood with relative ease with a good finish. Bare in mind that a compact size means that for larger pieces such as floor boards you will need to cut it in 2 cuts = flipping over between each. As you get more experienced with using this you will get very competent at judging when and where to cut.
Having a small diameter blade means that you wont be able to make a number of wood cuts in a single go, e.g. cut a number of batons in one go to assure that they all cut at the same length but again this is a size vs cutting capacity compromise.
In terms of smoothness of finish the supplied blade is multi-purpose and will cut anything from plastic through wood to copper pipe – I have not tried the metal yet though. The finish on the plastic (speedfit pipes) was very smooth and just required a minimal sand to remove the burr.
This is a great compound saw and I will update the review shortly as I use the clamps, and do my next architrave so need to use the mitring. I tried the angled cutting and in common with all the other mitre saws at this end of the market—do not expect 30 degrees to be bang on. You have to adjust and measure.
If you have a really big house diy project then I feel a larger saw will be much more useful and able to withstand the wear and tear although this does ship with a reassuring 3 year guarantee. If you are looking for an occasional tool as you do up the odd room then this is the perfect compact tool.
