Many new pc don’t come with CD/DVD Roms as well a lot of people don’t use them

I was looking for an external dvd that i was able to burn some projects on for my dad, when i was offered this i jumped at the chance.

It arrived in the branded box and to be honest on removing it was better than i expected, its well made lightweight but surprisingly durable.

Its simple plug and play, you have a choose of usb or usb-c i opted for usb-c as it provided faster data transfer, i was using windows 10 pro without issue but just upgraded to windows 11, i did not have an issue with it appearing in the system list but i have yet to burn another project.

Over all it did the job i need it to do and it did it well i will be doing another dvd project shorty using windows 11 pro i will come back and update

    Does the job well

This disc drive is okay. Cannot complain too much at the price. I thought it would be useful for my old laptop and it mostly is okay but can be a bit temperamental sometimes.
Overall not bad for the price at the time of this review.

I don’t have anyway in my house to view CDs or DVDs and I have tonnes of them from yonks ago. So got this as it is plug and play and it has worked perfectly. It is very compact, it comes with good cable management when you’re not using it.

CDs and DVDs to take a little while to load but that’s probably normal as I’m not used to using older tech anymore.

    Top stuff.

    Works and looks grea

I’ve never really given it any thought before but isn’t it odd how laptops don’t come with a CD / DVD drive anymore? Anyway this was exactly what I needed as I wanted to make copies onto disc of all the photos we have on our laptop and external hard drives. At c.18 it’s pretty good value for money too!

Lightweight and fits in to my laptop bag.
Simple to use, simply plug it in via the USB port and the laptop does the rest.
I’ve had hundreds of photos stored on cds so it’s been so nice to be able to view them and save them. As I don’t have a DVD player anymore, I’ve also been able to watch some old holiday / family dvds and save them to my laptop.
Quick and simple – would recommend!

Can finally view my wedding photos

Have a new mini PC and needed an external DVD drive to download some old software on disks.

Worked well! Haven’t yet tried to play DVD’s or CD’s.

Given that CDs/DVDs have become redundant, there’s honestly no point in having a built in DVD drive in computers now, and I don’t have one.
However, it is nice to watch a DVD through a player, as I don’t subscribe to streaming services, which makes this handy and gives me access to my DVDs that I otherwise can’t watch.
Plug and play drive, which is great. +/- RW, so you can burn CDs and DVDs for file storage if necessary, although this is pretty obsolete now.
Design is pretty and storage is compact as the wire tucks underneath when not required.
Plugs into USB A and USB C, which is helpful.
    Simple to operate and use.
The main criticism is probably price, since it’s not the cheapest and many other units with pretty much identical qualities are marginally cheaper. However, this works great, and those may not, so it might be worth the little extra.
    Overall, pretty good DVD drive.

My laptop does not come with a CD drive. This external drive is quite handy and comes with a USB 3.0 and Type-C interface.
Easy to use and no additional drivers or software is needed. Simple plug and play.
An indicator light, an ejection button, and a forced ejection button are some other features.
Moreover, the anti-skid base pads prevent the device from slipping.
Since it’s small, it doesn’t occupy much space.
Works extremely well and gives high-speed data transfer.

Well packed, has a protective cover ontop of the cd drive, easy plug and play, usb powered-cable built in and tucks away neat and easy to carry, user manual easy to use and up to date, very useful for travel or if your laptop has no cd drive
    Very good, happily recommend

It’s quite incredible how many tech devices have become so cheap. I was an early adopter as a burner of silver discs and the writers, and the media used to cost a small fortune. Not only that but you had a few hoops to jump through to get the things up and running… not to mention the aborted writes and temperamental reading by equipment. Today it’s all different…

If you have a Windows 10 PC or laptop then there’s basically nothing to do other than plug in the QDSYLQ to a USB port. QDSYLQ have even made this easier because they have built in a two-headed USB cable so it can be plugged into a USB-C port or a larger USB-A type port. Simples.

When you have plugged it into either your laptop or PC the DVD writer drive is instantly recognised and pops up as a new drive letter on your computer. DVDs can hold typically 4.7Gb worth of data, and this writer can also burn CD-Rs and they can hold just over 600Mb.

So, you’ve powered the QDSYLQ up by plugging it into your computer, then you have inserted a DVD-R or CD-R disc. Now all you need to do is tell Windows how you want to burn the disc. Basically, you are given the choice of either a ‘one-time’ write and the disc will be finalised after the writing process has completed… or you can elect to allow storing more data at a later date (but that type of disc will not play in a standard CD or DVD player for instance.

Then you can drag the files you wish to copy into the drive’s Windows window (making sure you haven’t tried to write more than the capacity of the silver disc) and when you “Right Click” the mouse you can confirm that you are ready to “Burn to disc”. I found that the writing speed was very quick (typically 24x speed) so the writing process doesn’t take very long.

I fully tested the QDSYLQ external DVD drive on both my laptop (connected using the USB-C plug) and on my Desktop Tower PC (using the USB-A plug). It worked flawlessly on both and I even checked the created discs in another drive and they were read without any issues too.

I cannot fault this compact DVD/CD writer for price, build, or ease of use. If you have never dabbled in the world of creating DVDs or CDs then this would be the absolutely ideal product to try. It’s so easy, no software to install and in no time you will have permanent copies of whatever you need… files, music, video etc.

So simple to use (Windows 10). It's as easy as writing to a hard drive. Great value.

QDSYLQ External CD DVD Drive: Call me old fashioned but I, personally, love a CD & DVD, I do stream and download (a bit) but I’m more comfortable with something tangible that I can hold and keep – still have and play Videos!

I’m no techy but I found this quite straightforward and did in fact plug-in-and-play, I’m guessing that’s by the virtue of my laptop suiting it’s needs rather than anything I did.

The unit itself is compact, portable and sturdy, it has a neat integrated USB cord, which tucks up on the underneath of the unit, no scrabbling around looking for it, and it works – quickly and quietly. It won’t do Blue-Ray disks, nor is it usable with Chromebook but does produce great copies.

The user manual is very brief and aims its content at those who know what they’re doing, I found it a little tricky to follow but It kind of comes naturally once it’s connected and the instructions aid the process. I think it a fairly reasonable price for the quality although I probably wouldn’t pay much more. Happy!

A very good CD drive slightly high price but very portable comes with the USB or USBC connections on the bottom which make it great for not forgetting cables. Works well enough but does have a matte and gloss finish on top which make it prone to finger print marks.

    Review from my husband:

Well, this is nice, isn’t it? I don’t know if you’re aware but most modern PCs have done away with optical drives for some time now, and I wanted to do some retro type stuff. I like to burn a DVD or even a CD! I know I’m old and all, but this little beauty does exactly what I want. It’s great and is recognised by all my burning software like Nero and disc juggler for backup games. It works perfectly and write speeds are great to work with at basically anything I’ve thrown at it. Nice plug and play, super compact, and quite pleasing to the eye as well with its wavy pattern on the top. Looks the part and is easily storable so as not to clutter your desktop, and for 22 quid, it’s a deal I’m onboard and you should be too 5/5. Oh, but the cable could have been longer… just saying

    Good for old style burning

This external disc drive plugs directly into a laptop and can be used to burn discs as well as just playing them. It supports pretty much every type of CD and DVD, but not Blu-rays. I do have a lot of CDs and DVDs and used to burn them all the time before the drive on my laptop packed in, and my latest laptop has no disc drive. This standalone drive is the ideal solution.

Build quality seems very good. The drive is no bigger than it needs to be, so is light and slimline. There’s a wavy design on the top but otherwise the design is purely functional. It has a built-in cable, which is tucked away on the bottom. It can connect either via USB-A or USB-C so you won’t need to dig around for an adapter. My Windows 10 laptop recognised the drive quickly, I didn’t need to do anything other than plug it in. There’s a button on the front to open and close the tray and feet on the bottom to stop it slipping around and that’s about all the physical features of note.

I used VLC to play a few CDs and DVDs which the drive did perfectly. It was equally fine with burned discs, though a lot of the discs I burned a decade ago no longer worked, but that’s the fault of the discs rather than the drive, they no longer work in any player. I’ve also tried burning a few discs and the drive had no issues with all the formats I tried – CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs. The drive has a max speed of 8X for DVDs and 24X for CDs but unless I am in a hurry, I always like to use a slower speed as I have always believed that this reduces the chance of errors, though I have no idea if that’s actually true. In operation the drive isn’t particularly noisy, both when playing discs and when burning them.

I’m very happy with this QDSYLQ CD/DVD drive. It’s small, simple to use and works well.

I’m old enough to have been using and burning dvd, cd etc and have a whole stack of them

Only problem is most modern laptops tend not to have the cd drive built in. This is a good alternative as not only will it plug into a normal USB port but also a usb-c without needing an adaptor

Cable being inbuilt means you won’t be losing it either

A simple solution to get access to your dvd library

I am very happy with this as I can now watch my own DVD’s on my laptop. The portable DVD player is compact and takes very little room up. Even the cable fits snuggly in the bottom of this. I travel on trains a lot so now I can watch my DVD’s while travelling. It fits in my laptop bag perfectly. Good clear picture and sound.

    Compac

This works very well, plug into my laptop, insert a movie, use VLC player and I can enjoy my films. You can also use RW discs to store files on.

The quality of this drive appears excellent.

Great to be able to write discs from my laptop. My laptop is a 14-inch slimline model, great for space saving and portability but it does not have a built-in optical drive. I had loads of PDF files I wanted to share with a neighbour on a local development, I could have popped them on USB key but I’m tired of folk not giving them back. Writing the files to disc is a better option. I still had lots of blank CDs and DVDs left from when I used to use them with my previous laptop.
This USB drive is totally plug and play, no drivers were needed. I have tested with DVDr both plus and minus and I have tested on writable CDs (I have no rewritable to try.) It both read and wrote to all the discs I tried and there were no errors.
The drive is very neat and slimline, the cable is built in and slots underneath the drive when not in use, it has USB3 and USBc connectors. You get no vibration, and it is very quiet. Good quality and good value.

Perfect, writes to even cheap disks and reads anything. No errors.

It doesn’t seem so long ago that I was a big user of cdr and dvdr for backup and making mix CDs for the car. Those days are long gone with the advent of streaming and usb sticks. So whilst this won’t get a ton of use it is handy to have it to attach to my laptop, which of course doesn’t have this type of drive.
In use it really was plug and play. (Windows 11). I tried it with a DVD to play and also burnt a cdr. Max speed on cdr is x24 which is pretty standard. It is a bit flimsy in build, but that is reflected in the price. I like that it has a USB C connection as a option.

Overall: reasonably priced and seems fine in operation.

Delivered in a plain cardboard box

Inside this teeny tiny CD/DVD rewriter / player sits . The casing has a corrugated look to it . Underneath the lead is packed away in the base of the player .

Plugging it in and being able to play dvds finally on my pc has made the world of difference
This is compatible with Most Windows systems including Windows 10 ( the only thing it doesn’t work on is Chrome OS and Chromebook )

Just push the button and the tray comes out Put in the DVD and play . I use VLC evauae windows media player doesn’t work on my pc .

This is so compact it’s small enough to carry in a handbag . Priced.under 22 it’s an absolute bargain and I’m happily recommending because now hubby can watch all of his dvd collection bis his laptop .
