Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving invested in a PSVR2, I wanted a fully immersive game. I plonked for GT7, even though I do not traditionally like driving games. In fact this is the first one I’ve owned since Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco Grand Prix on the Megadrive.
I find controllers difficult to replicate the steering wheel, and therefore tend to under and over steer, and also struggle with acceleration and breaking for similar reasons.
Firstly, this game starts off with a gentle drive whilst it completes its download. You get a choice of 3 tracks to trundle around and get used to the controls. Steering is done using the gyrometer on the controller, which you hold out in front of you and turn like a steering wheel. Acceleration and breaking is done by button presses and used in conjunction with the PSVR2, it really is amazing.
There are plenty of options outside of racing. There are cars to collect and options to upgrade. There are loads of cars in fact, and gives the game longevity.
There are also lots of training parts with driving lines and breaking areas mapped out to follow.
With A steering column and steering wheel, this takes on another level of immersion.
All in all this has hours of play in it and is a worthy purchase.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our Users.. ‘In App Purchases’ (as I think of them, but In Game purchases – you know what I mean?) are ever more present in top games. I think of it as a ‘Greed feed’ for very rich, and avaricious persons who know no limit.

Here is a game, an absolute ‘Titan’ in the world of driving games, loved by many, many millions all around the planet and it’s being held back by said greed.

There’s so much to like about the game. Many other reviewers have laid it out, I’ll not repeat it here, but; it’s got class in a lot of game play (not all, some improvement updates are needed), but it needs an overhaul of the ‘In Game Greed’, make rewards quicker and easier to earn ‘FREE’ as PART of the GAME play.

Gamers are happy to pay a reasonable and fair price for the service you provide. Some Gamers are dedicated enough, indeed happy enough, to purchase some ‘In-Game things’. OK, if they want, but: you HAVE to keep it sensible. Vast majority of Gamers cannot afford ‘IN-game /$/’ after buying the expensive Game etc.

In Summary: Ditch The Greed. Improve the Game, where needed – read feedback from Customers (It’s a wonderful concept, & quite simple: People write reviews about the Game & what is wrong with it, and how it can be improved. You, the creator/owner then go away & do exactly that, then – everyone’s happy = winner!)

Go on, give it a go and see if you don’t find it a really useful & clever concept that makes all concerned live happily ever after!

Picked this up due to the free PSV2 update and am very glad that I did. While enjoy racing games I’m more of a casual racer but in VR Gran Turismo 7 is plainly awesome.

In short I love the racing, graphics are also great but the one thing which let’s it down is the terrible menu. This is restricting, made by the look of it, for idiots by one and means that access to many parts of the game is slow and hampered by boring interfaces and pointless videos. But the racing is great!

I was expecting a UK cover as it was sold as being English, but when I received it, the cover sleeve is in a foreign language. The installed and played game is all in English though, so as long as you don’t mind the cover and case not being in English it’s a good buy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI haven’t really bothered with driving games for years other than novelty ones like Mario Kart, etc but did love the 2nd Gran Turismo back in the day, did have a go with Prologue but didn’t really like it and didn’t bother with any others… fast forward to GT7, got this for my Son for Xmas and ended up playing a few races and went through the intro taking turns placing races, doing the GT caf menu’s unlocking the locations, old cars, new cars, tuning shop, etc and i was impressed by the sheer number of cars with amazing detail, tuning options, customization, etc that i am now hooked again. Racing in the rain with the droplets of water going up the window, change between dry, then wet and back again adds a whole new level of realism…. is the magical Pikes Peak in this game… only one way to find out… PLAY MORE

GT 7 is ok but underwhelming for some reason. I’ve always loved Gran Turismo from the very first game, I still have GT Sport in my PS4 game library and I actually do prefer it to this.

Not much else to say, if you still have GT Sport I don’t feel you really need GT 7, otherwise it’s fine and is still the best racing game on PS5 quite comfortably.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt goes without saying that Gran Turismo has excellent driving. It’s graphics are superb, but most impressive is the blazing fast load times on the ps5. It makes getting in and out of races, changing cars, and going between events super snappy. It can become a chore to earn money, and it is a little light on content, though more is being added over time. Overall it is a fantastic racing game and a must play.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersSide note: I played the early GT games and bought the Cardigans music because of them. The music in this is poor in comparison.
The graphics are excellent with a choice of Full quality with Ray tracing or frame rate priority 60fps. The look of either is great, although I had expected just a bit better overall for next Gen it doesn’t seem a massive step up from the last version. Sounds are also excellent and vary with car tuning changes and road handling. Frame rate is a slightly nicer racing feel but it is not massively different in the races I tried (maybe in some!)
The controls with the PS5 pad are sublime with rumble feedback. Catching the car from a slide is easier with the pad than a wheel although the feedback from a wheel ( I have Logitech 923) is even more immersive feeling every slide and clip of the curb (or other car). there are the usual in car and out of car views and further adjustemts in car in relation to the cockpit.
I have not quite completed the single player, computer AI is reasonable although occasionally prone to taking you out. Tyre wear also seem to kick in a bit suddenly on some races.
Online racing is great fun but very competitive, there are ratings for speed and driver conduct.
Unfortunately the game must be online for single player as well which is a little annoying.
There are the usual licences to complete and also challenges which give decent rewards, some are ridiculously hard ( as they were in the past games). I use the wheel for most but for drift challenges the pad is much better and some of the Rally ones.
Some of the cars are extremely expensive and so take a lot of playing to gain the credits or you can purchase credits with real money which I think sucks. Personally I think most cars should be accessible to players when you complete the main game and not used as a money earner, but everyone to their own.

Excellent graphics and state of the art game with excellent gameplay. Great videos and good races with amazing trucks to drive on. Very realistic as are the replays.

A proper driving simulator for the more experienced racer, this is not like an arcade game.

Great game, if you are a gran turismo fan then you will love it. 70 is allot for a game but if you are willing to wait a bit then it will definitely come down in price, 180 hours in and I’m still enjoying myself.

    Amazing game

    Pros:
    – Awesome graphics, great frame rate too on a PS5, it is a driving game after all.
    – Many cars to choose from, from an American Mustang to a Toyota AE86.
    – You can tune up your car to be better at accelerating, braking, drifting, etc. (I have a tuned up Mini which can go to 120mph in a few seconds, very funny)
    – Has a License Centre which helps players learn advanced techniques to driving (can be very hard to get Gold!)

    Cons (oh boy):
    – Microtransactions. Why the hell are they here in a 60 game? I understand whether if it was for just cosmetic purposes only, but sometimes it feels like pay-to-win against both AI and Players who pay up to have their car tuned up to the max.
    – Apparently, they reduced the payout you get for completing a race in the top 3. Straight off, that move is very scummy as they are trying to incentivise players to pay for Credits instead of grinding for them (Hey, at least it isn’t Diablo: Immortal!).
    – Co-op and Multiplayer is in the game, however you have to play for quite a while before you can ‘unlock’ it. Personally, I think it’s absurd since if I had just bought the game, and wanted to play with a family member or a friend, I’d have to play for a while and they’d feel left out. Co-op should be there from the get-go.

That’s my review. I’ll now be going back to Devil May Cry 5, a very good game which I HIGHLY recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI used to play this game on the PS3 back in the day – and it was always a toss up between GT and Racedriver Grid. Grid always had the better driving engine – but GT always got you on the experience. I carried on playing Grid until recently (on the PS3) and finally after a VERY LONG TIME, got my hands on a PS5 – and bought this on the one day the price randomly dropped to 49.

Yes you need a good connection to download the game proper – but there is a nice mini-game you can play while you wait. Saying that I have 900meg down and it still took 2 hours.

The game is great, the additional features are amazing. And for a while you’ll think you’re a great driver – until you realise that braking assist is on by default and you might wanna turn it off.

I love the slow build up of average to rubbish cars you have to drive to unlock the MENUs for better cars – and would prefer that over having millions of credits in the bank and just buying a fancy fast car and winning everything. Try racing a 1965 Mini around Tokyo – great fun!

All in all I am loving this – and I am staying up later – sneaking in an hour here and there trying to get further through the menus. The Online offering is also great – the original Nuremburg track takes about 10 mins to do a lap – and it is very amusing..

Give this game a go – but yes – if you haven’t got a connection – and a good one at that – this game probably isn’t for you.

After playing a while it comes into its own and some of the races are nailbiting, edge of seat affairs. I’ve completed all the books and there is still so much to do. The graphics are uniformly excellent and sound effects awesome for each car. The only complaints I have really is the music which at times is bland and fades to nothing. I kept thinking of the original Gran Turismo on PS1 and how fantastic the music was on that. Also the damage model is very limited just showing a few scuffs. The game can be a bit sterile but give it some time and it becomes quite beautiful. Definitely one of the best.

Nice enough game, definitely upscaled for PS5 so has significant room for improvement.

There is a 10-12 minute “movie” that is mandatory to watch before you get into the game properly … do yourself a favour, go make yourself a coffee, maybe clean the house or eo your accounting, because those are more fun than being forced to watch it. Once you have been through it once, dont forget to turn off the setting or else you’re forced to watch it everytime.

Gameplay is ok, less immersive than i feel Forza can be.

What is it with the micro payments?! I bought the gqme, give me access to everything, if you want to charge more, release a quality DLC that expands the game.

Over all, ok, but some elements leave a bad taste.

This is what PlayStation have been missing for a while – I skipped sport as just didn’t seem like the gran turismo I grew up on. This is a return to that format albeit with a lot of new stuff and there’s a fair bit to do from licenses (seem easier than before unless I got better), races, online and couch play to missions and various modes on each track to help you get better.

Great selection of cars that I’ve seen so far – some are likely to be added later no doubt. Whilst there is an ability to use real cash for in game cash and it’s on a lot of menus I don’t feel forced to use it (and won’t) I’m only a few hours in but am loving it.

Highly recommend to anyone who loved the originals or who have played project cars 1/2 but was left disappointed by 3. This will fill that void.

Feels like a product that isn’t quite finished, there has been plenty updates albeit small since launch, it has plenty of Cars but could always add more I think it has the smallest roster of a full game release from the series, do t get me wrong the look and the sound are spot on but it’s missing some finer details the menus need work especially the navigation and the needing to be online is a pain especially when they have server maintenance as essentially you cannot play the game

Got this on day one release and have to admit it didnt seem to flow on progress. Looks amazing on 4k PS5 and very familiar menu, layout and feel. The updates are coming and should make this more rewarding. Most of the big manufacturers are there but could do with a few more European models added. The graphics and physics all work well with some jaw dropping moments . Persevere with this title, it will get better over time.

It’s a Gran Turismo game. That’s always a good thing. And there’s fun to be had and some challenges to overcome, such as the traditional last license test.

Everything looks beautiful. The changing weather and time of day completely changes the lightning of tracks, and they look stunning. The cars are incredibly detailed, inside and out, so you can get some amazing photos. A few old tracks and everything from GT Sport means there’s good racing choices. But there are issues…

Some people weren’t happy with the pricing and how much could be earned from racing. I seem to remember all GT games having a grinding element to get the top cars, so it didn’t bother me. This has now been fixed with a patch and it’s possibly now too easy to make money. I’m sure it will balance in time.

Speaking of balance, the BoP seems to be broken, so some cars have massive advantages over others. This has slightly broken the online racing unless you’re in the correct car. Tuning was allowed as well, but the Power Point system didn’t balance properly, so once again certain cars and/or tunes had a big advantage.

Oh, and the handling is VERY oversteer happy, so use Traction Control.

I’m sure it will all get fixed through patches, and I’ve enjoyed my time with the game so far. I’d recommend it, as long as you’re aware that one month after its release it still has a lot of issues to be fixed.

Stunning graphics, great playability …I’m not great at racing games but this must learn your level as its so well balanced. The creative element is staggering with the photo generator and liveries you can apply to the cars, racing suits and helmets. If you struggle to create your own then just download others from the game for free who have the time, effort and talent to create real works of art. If you are lucky enough to have a PS4 Pro or PS5 with a 4k TV you are in for a treat. The best racing game I’ve played in 30 years of gaming

I’m only just starting out having received the game for my Birthday. I read a few reviews before posting my own and notice everyone says the same thing about the un-skippable opening movie.
Starting the game you’re forced to purchase a used car which isn’t too bad as I got an Impreza from the off. The tutorials are very child-like and slow paced which can be frustrating when I’ve played since GT3 on the PS2.
The Cafe is a nice new theme but I imagine as the game gets further along it will become more a nuisance than a bit of fun.
So far that’s it for me.

Well worth the purchase!

  46. RomanBoldt says:

This is a fantastic game. One of the best sim races on the market. However GT7 has one of the most infuriating microtranaction systems I have encountered.

If you have a million hours of spare time you won’t have a problem getting all the way to best cars. However, if like a normal person you work a plus 40 hour week your going to find that paying your upto the best cars is the only way you will get to the very best vehicles. Unless your willing to wait a year or two to get there on the in game system.

You need credits to pay for car upgrades. And they are ridiculously expensive. I’m on level 20 cafe mode to get to the next level I need to upgrade my Porcshe 911 because it is to slow. In order to do this I’m going to have to do X amount of other events to earn the money to complete this Porsche event. In theory it sounds fair, but the drawback being that other events only give a small payout in comparison to the upgrades you need. Hence, the quicker option is to purchase in game credits to either buy the parts you need or buy another car altogether to win the series you are currently on.

It’s a maddening system that tries to lull you into spending more money on a game that already cost 70 pounds. It’s made even more maddening because the credits don’t cost much. But that’s not the point, you’ve already paid for your game why should you be paying more. Its almost like a punishment for enjoying the single players mode.

A fantastic game hampered by very coy micro transactions

The initial download took roughly 40 minutes, but the mini game after 10 gb is great fun. Yes, there is a long introductory movie once the download has finished and you move to the main game, but the game has deserved this honour as it recapitulates the history of the car and the game.

The game plays even better than its predecessors, looks better and is just on the top of my list now off favourite car games. I was admittedly a bit worried about the ability to purchase credits, but this is only for those who want to skip racing and just buy the cars. But money comes in quickly enough to continue building your collection anyway.

    Absolutely recommended!

Why do people review/rate a product based on it arriving damaged or the wrong version?? Get a replacement and review the product itself, not Amazon’s delivery. Far more helpful for people.

There have also been negative reviews based on the large file download and intro video. Most games have a large download now and I found the intro video quite a nice start to a game that has been in development for years.

    Anyway, the positives:

    1. The graphics are simply mind blowing – gorgeous car models, weather effects and lighting.

    2. Gameplay is as good as ever. Each car has unique handling and characteristics.

    3. The GT world is a nod to the past and really ads depth. I like the cafe menu challenges and the return of second hand cars etc.

    4. The challenge is well balanced. For example, I got a real sense of achievement getting all golds in one of the licenses but it wasn’t easy.

    Negatives:

    1. Limited car damage

    2. You have to be online even for two player split screen.

Summary: This is a no brainer if you want a racing game with depth and class. You might not like every aspect of it but you will be missing out if you don’t pick this up. 10/10

Don’t listen to the younger generations throwing tantrums over the downloading times & intros. If you update your PS5 daily/regularly you wont need to wait nearly day for it to download. It took us 20 minutes, The intro simply shows our history in cars to present. From really old cars to now! We are currently working through GT just now. The other thing I noticed in the reviews is that people wanted instant access to the more advanced cars. I feel there would be no point in the game if your not willing to work your way up to the super cars it’s all part of the fun. So far I’m really enjoying the game I’ve been waiting patiently to get this game since last year. All round It’s the best car game we’ve played in a long time. The only downside is music but you can turn the music off & keep the system/engine sound on & stick on your playlist if you wish via Alexa, Your Phone or whatever your preference. Stop being lazy and play the game, actually put some effort in to earn money and buy the cars with your in game credits. Simple. It’s actually the reason I love this game, whilst Forza hands you it all on a plate, GT7 makes you work for it. Fantastic gameplay, great graphics and back to GT4 nostalgia.

And another point, why do people moan about having to be connected to the Internet? This is 2022, if you haven’t got the Internet then you need to have some serious words with yourself about your existence on this planet. You’re using the Internet to read this right now. Magic eh.

This is the first Gran Turismo I’ve played since GT 5 prolouge. I play the game on a Thrustmaster T248. It took about an hour to download and install on the PS5 followed by the 8 minutes introduction video.

The initial races are fairly easy as you can choose a very powerful car and win even if you go off the track. The game does get very difficult which you realise when attempting gold on the license challenge. B10 took me a minimum of two hours to gold.

The driving experience is more immersive and realistic compared to the f1 2020 game which had been playing previously. It’s also more difficult especially having to adjust to different cars which is an aspect that I enjoy. There’s a good selection of cars.

My main gripe with the game is that you can’t sell your cars. I bought a 1981 Porsche 911 Turbo which was a bit rubbish to drive and I can’t sell it.

This is a game that will take a few years to complete so if you’re not prepared to grind then GT7 is not for you.

    Immersive Experience

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s just annoyingly Gran Turismo. The graphics are great and the physics are good but there are so many annoying features:

    -The generic guitar ‘rock’ music.
-The endless menus you have to navigate to get from one menu to another menu. At one point I counted 40 button presses to get from one menu to the other. Ironically, the main aim of the game is to complete ‘menus’ of cars in Luca’s cafe. For example, you click to exit out a finished race and it goes straight to the replay then you exit out the replay and the arrow goes straight to the replay option on the next screen then you have to move the arrow to the right to click exit again and then you are take to another menu screen for the track. You need to exit out of this menu. You then have to go back through all the menus you came through to get to the track.
-After you complete a ‘menu’ of cars, an icon comes up that reads ‘Let’s go back to the cafe’. Surely you can click on this to take you straight back to the cafe? No. No can not.
-Luca’s massively oversold ‘Boy have I got some stories to tell you about these cars!’ Spoiler alert: he doesn’t.
-The game starts out far too easy, even in the ‘hard’ setting.
-Once it starts to get hard, you just take a trip to the tuning shop, spend your not-hard-earned money on bits to turn your 98bhp Mazda hybrid FitBit into a 325bhp monster and then win again.
-There’s so many boring old Japanese cars that you have only ever seen on Gran Turismo. Give me a Mark1 Ford Escort, a Vauxhall Nova or a VW Polo instead of a Nissan 89 Ladyboy S-ZX.
-It’s either a manual or automatic gearbox with no semi-automatic option where you can change up or down whilst in automatic.
-They’ve tried to introduce ‘characters’ that you can interact with by clicking on them and they speak to you via on screen text. No actual vocals. I might have to buy Grid Legends.
-The online sport part is pretty good and competitive but then that just makes it the same as GT Sport. To be competitive, you have to get your Bhopal to the limit and then tune your car so it is set up better than everybody else’s.
-You can spend 100,000 on a nitrous oxide pack and then go online and you’re not allowed to use it.

It’s like GT have looked at all the good features of all the other good racing games in the past 25 years and just thought ‘Nah we do it better’. They don’t.

So far, I’ve put around 20, 21 hours in the game and have definitely enjoyed it far more than I thought I would! It is generally a great game – there are a huge number of cars to choose from but yes, there are several editions of the same car that an uncultured swine like me wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between. Still, you get a good choice and seeing as that choice is only going to get bigger, there’s enough to keep you going.

In the single-player mode, there is definitely an emphasis on car collecting – you get given cars as rewards for winning races, as part of a free loot box-style bonus and for getting all golds on driving licenses and missions. I have around 60 cars in my collection and I have bought maybe 4 of them, so although you are constantly nudged towards microtransactions, I haven’t found myself short of in-game cash at all.

The graphics are really something else – the cars all look absolutely stunning! Light bounces off them so well and the interiors are all really well done too. It almost makes me want to buy a 4K TV to make the most of it! This is really highlighted in the Scapes mode of the game, where you can take photographs of your cars in real-world locations. I love this feature as it allows me to create real works of art and I can’t wait to see other locations that they add!

The driving itself is very good and the cars feel realistic to drive. At the same time, a relative racing novice like myself is still able to master them, even with the driving aids turned down or off completely (comparing this to my last racing game, Project Cars 2, where I would often spin off the track to my constant annoyance). One thing I don’t like about the racing is the fact that in nearly every single race you start at the back of the pack. This is annoying at the best of times (feels like the game is deliberately giving you a disadvantage) but when the race is a rolling start (and there are a lot of rolling starts!) and there are 15 cars in front of you, you’re not so much racing as just catching up to the opposition before the race runs out. It would be good if you were given qualification opportunities or positioned on the grid based on car horsepower/PP or something.

I am very happy with purchasing the game and do recommend it!

Firstly I can’t believe how many people are giving this 1 star just because they don’t have the patience to wait to download or watch an intro. It’s crazy to rate a game before you actually play it! Granted it took me about a day and a half for a 90gb update as I can’t get fibre but it was worth the wait. Parts of the game unlock as you go along so it’s not all available but it doesn’t take too long. I’ve been playing for about 2 hours a day for about 5 days and just unlocked what I believe is the last area on the map. The racing itself is amazing and you do have to concentrate as there’s no kids reverse button like on Forza if you mess up!! Love the license and mission challenges. Their tricky to get the gold but good fun to beat your mates times. You do get given loads of cars throughout the game for winning challenges and races but alot still need to be bought and they do cost alot of credits. Haven’t tried the online yet but it does look good and people get bad ratings if they constantly push people off track so really it should be decent racing!

This is overall a great game, the ecxellent online racing from GT sport with the return of the full one player mode gives lots to do, on top of that great graphics, excellent selection of tracks both real and fictional and plethora of info on the cars, brands and motoring history.

It has however 2 main issues, number one being the ai, it’s been awful in the last few GT games and it still is, so a majority of races consist of starting at the back and in the space of 2 or 3 laps against some very slow ai drivers trying to get to 1st. It’s almost unheard of to have a good race with any of them as you just streak past them on the straights. I remember an old GT with qualifying sessions.

The second issue however is probably the worst one, it’s the car selection. Yes there maybe over 400 but a good chunk are fictional GT vision cars, which are full, and another chunk are group 3 or 4 racing variants which would be fine if there wasn’t so many huge gaps in the road car selection. Only 1 mercedes in the game? No Vauxhall’s? And a distinct lack of anything from the last couple of years. The Alfa Romeo Giulia quadrifoglio is one of THE performance cars of the moment, but it’s not here. Want to drive a focus rs? You can, but it’s the old shape model. These examples could go on forever, it’s just the car selection from GT sport copied in. Same goes for the in game music, some of which I’m sure had already been re used for GT sport. This blows Forza out of the water when it comes to car handling and online racing but Forza car selection is 10 times better. Hopefully this is something they will address with future updates as new cars were often added to get sport but as it stands it just feels out of date.

PD have addressed most of the issues from previous games. The sound design is now class leading. While car customisation is beyond anyones wildest expectations.

With continued DLC support and upgrades to the AI. I’ve never been more satisfied with the direction of the franchise.

This game is brilliant, from the outset video intro which gives you some history into the auto world. Then to find the good old second hand car sales centre to buy your first car.

Coming from a series x with horizon 5 I find this game a breath of fresh air that the car racing genre needed. Good graphics, awesome car hadling physics. It just has it all. Forza horizon 5 just feels bland in comparison, ie being a polished version of 4 with a new map.

The level of detail in the game is second to
None and makes me glad that I made the move over to ps from Xbox and solely for this game. Have been a massive gran turismo fan from day one and this really has filled the gap for a brilliant car game on ps.

I’ll keep this brief. The game is quite glorious. Visually & how it plays it top notch it really is. (4k hdr 60 htz no issues)
The flaw is you must grind out the credits and tasks before you can drive any fast cars or get access to lots of circuits.
This will be a serious issue for some and for others the grind will be a very pleasing experience as your rewards & time spent will eventually be worth it.
I’d give it a 10/10 but the grind makes it 8/10. If you want to jump straight in and have access to everything right away. It’s a 1/10.

This game won’t please the people expecting Forza Horizon, or even Forza Motorsport actually. It is to me a bit like a JRPG for car lovers. No you can’t jump in the fastest car immediately and go straight around the Nordschleife. And that’s what makes it great, and all the more enjoyable once you do get there. Yes you have to work for it, and yes you have to start in the slow (used cars) and work for the rewards. This is what I like. Never change the recipe, please, Polyphony Digital. If I had one criticism, I would actually like a higher difficulty setting that involved giving out less prize money. It’s too easy to make money, even with all assists off and difficulty set to maximum. GT2 was a properly difficult game – I wish this was a bit more like that. Oh and I wish you could sell cars

Title sums it up. Graphically and the engine sounds and handling are truly incredible, the sheer detail of all the cars is something to behold. Full career mode where you customise and tune cars is back with a Big Bang. It’s classic Gran Tourismo but even better.

The cons are that the installation of the disc game is ludicrously long. I have high speed fibre and it took 7 hours all in all, I’ve read on the internet that there’s a bug causing it to be overly slow so I expect that to be fixed.

Another negative is the lack of latest car models (or ones within the last 2 years) which is disappointing but these are expected to come as a future update.

It really is a brilliant game though. For those who haven’t played Gran Tourismo before please be aware it’s a racing sim not and arcade racer so needs practice to get good at but when you do it delivers the best driving game of all time. The depth of the game is huge with all the tuning and used car markets. Ignore the micro transaction options and you’ll enjoy it so much more. The dynamic weather and time of day is also incredible.

It’s absolutely brilliant but has a couple of frustrations mainly the long installation time.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersIt’s gran turismo. The cars are beautiful, almost lifelike. The tracks for the most part feel amazing however it is evident this is a PS4 game upscaled for the PS5. I know graphics are not everything but when other open world racers look better it’s raises questions about the choices made here. It feels like it was held back because of the PS4.

Lots of cars here, 420+ but some of them you’ll never drive they’re that old. There’s very little here that’s been made in the past 5 years. Also a good few variations of the same model.

Micro transaction are present but so far not needed. It does mean you’ll have to grind for cars but then if you call it a grind why are you playing it.

Really good game – I just feel it could’ve been so much more if they’d made it a PS5 exclusive – which the PS5 really needs.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersGran Turismo 7 arrived a couple of weeks ago, delivered on time on its release date. This is an updated review posted 30-Mar-22.

Grinding. That’s the word that everyone here seems to be using, and I know just what they mean. I saved up enough for a Ferrari 458 Italia, that was over a week ago, and I’ve been driving that same car around the same track (forwards and reverse) ever since. It’s not so much winning that gives the buzz, but beating personal lap times. Which isn’t terribly exciting. I haven’t counted how many races I’ve competed in over the past 2/3 weeks but it must be at least 100 probably over 200. But it’s the same thing over and over again. Can be soul destroying. I want to progress, I want to do better. I want more tracks and more cars. The time investment required to upgrade tracks and cars is so huge that it takes the element of fun and pleasure out of it. Somebody somewhere at Polyphony has got their sums wrong, in that they should deliver fast engagement and self-development for their GT fans. Instead, they’ve given us a game that challenges not your PB lap times, but your will to live.

My last purchase of the game was GT5 12 years ago in 2010 for the PS3 (I never owned a PS4 console) so for me this was expected to be a significant jump forwards. To be honest: It isn’t. I remember getting Gran Turismo for my PS3 and it was mind-blowing. Here we are more than a decade later and while it is admittedly an improvement, it’s a much smaller advance than I had hoped.

On the other hand, if you’ve never had a Gran Turismo game before, this game will not disappoint! Of course it’s a near-essential game for the PS5 for anyone who likes high class racing games – it’s the standard by which most if not all are judged. I love the game but as I only got it a couple of weeks back, I have a lot of driving to do and will update this post regularly (I already have, above).

If you’re playing on a PS5, the DualSense wireless controller’s already excellent haptic feedback is enhanced beautifully here. You’ll feel resistance in the triggers as you brake and change gears. All the bumps in the road surface, the screeching of tyres and even the friction of your car’s windscreen wipers are registered by the DualSense’s vibration, adding a greatly heightened sense of reality and immersion in each and every race.

5 stars, if you’ve never had it before. 4 stars at most if you have.
(shame about the price – annoying to see it discounted from the 70 I paid so quickly. Wish I’d delayed my decision now)

Such high expectations. Such mixed feelings now that I’ve had it a while. I can’t imagine not having it, in spite of the arse-aches, but Polyphony definitely messed things up here. Life’s pretty tough for many of us these days, and a video game should be rewarding escapism. It should put a grin on your face. For me, it’s more of a grimace, thinking about all the grinding I’ve yet to do.

Not exactly a quantum leap forwards

Golden Review Award: 101 From Our Users18/03 Note – Still on the fence about this? Be aware that GT7’s recent patch 1.07 has made the game unplayable while the servers go through extended maintenance – oh sorry you wanted to play single player? Nope. Forza Horizon, a game built around an online functionality from the ground up has an offline mode, GT7 – does not.

Secondly – they’ve cut the already meagre credit rewards by about 50% across a load of events. Since the option to buy in game credits is front and centre – there is really only one obvious conclusion. At 2.99 for 100,000 credits, some rare cars cost the equivalent of 160 of credits. For those of us with jobs or responsibilities that mean we only get an hour or two of gaming in a day (at best)…well there’s only one way to get those rare cars, lets put it that way.

TLDR – If you are on the fence, think hard before deciding to support this business model, I’ll leave the score as it is, but Polyphony Digital have sullied their reputation and cheapened the experience.

    — Original Review

You have a warning sign of what you are in for early on – when a lavishly beautiful intro video plays touching on the nostalgia of car ownership. I enjoyed in for about 4mins and then resolved to skip it and (y’know) get to the racing…nope, no skip option, you have to watch all 9mins of the car racing montage while a rock guitar grinds away, oh boy…

Gran Turismo 7 looks amazing, outrageously so – the cars glisten in the light, the tracks are drenched in detail and the force feedback through the controller is the best I’ve felt since Returnal (and yes, you can steer using motion sensors only if you want!)

Yet, it certainly has some strange choices, and I’m not just talking the inability to skip the intro movie. Walls of text with almost no voice acting, a soundtrack that’s largely boring (I hope you like jazzed up classics), having to unlock tracks before racing them in custom…plus a requirement to always be online for the vast majority of features (split-screen racing why?). By far the bitterest pill is the invitation to ‘top up your in game credits’ with real money. Gran Turismo 7 is all about the grind, moving from Mini Cooper to fancy top end sports car – it will take you a long, long time to get there – so the constant nudge to ‘spend real money’ feels…iffy…69.99 remember – and constantly making a play for your credit card, ugly.

Its a shame, as everything else about the game is beautiful, the driving – fantastic, the track options – fantastic – the weather and photo mode – breathtaking. The music rally is…er, well its novel I guess. A lot of the design choices are ‘novel’ – some work (the cafe set-up is kinda cute) and others, not so much.

I’ve played nearly 100hrs of the latest Forza Horizon game and have eagerly anticipated Gran Turismo on PS5 as a return to more simulation driving – a harder grind where you are not being showered by loot boxes and roulette spins every 2mins, in that, Gran Turismo succeeds. Its funny really, if Forza and Gran Turismo were brothers…(bear with me), Forza would be the younger, cooler brother, constantly jazzed up – snorting dubious substances while skydiving out of planes while taking snapshots on Instagram. Gran Turismo, older – slightly balding loafs around in a tweed jacket while rolling tobacco. He tries to be cool by showing off his vinyl collection to anyone that will listen, and will talk for hours about how the best James Bond was Timothy Dalton.

Sorry, I’ve lost my tangent slightly, lets wrap up:

    The Good
    – Fantastic graphics, outstanding force feedback and driving model
    – Great variety of tracks, weather and time options (when you unlock them)
    – Slow and steady grind encourages constant play and rewards
    – No rewind option encourages careful driving and more immersion
    – The steady drip feed of new tracks and options does maintain a certain level of addiction
    – Wonderful photo mode if you like that sort of thing (once you’ve unlocked it)
    – License mode is great if you are ‘into’ chasing gold medals etc – but when there can be 0.4secs separating silver from gold…the bloodhaze can easily descend…

    The meh
    – Game feels kinda easy, even on the hardest settings providing you keep your car upgraded
    – It takes time before the game lets go of your hand – a lot of time
    – Early ‘championships’ is usually just two races on the same circuit…forward and then reverse, lame
    – No qualifying, rolling starts only from last place always, max ten cars for most ‘cafe’ races starting out, boring
    – Constant online is an irritance – especially if your PS5 struggles to keep connection, I’ve had to hotspot from my phone just to play a single player race…
    – Music rally is a shrug, but still fun now and again
    – Music selection is…old fashioned and boring next to Forza – who picked these?
    – Talking heads with stock photography and text only is an…interesting choice
    – Absolutely no damage simulation is unsurprising for GT, but still disappointing in the ‘real driving simulator’
    – Wanna jump into Trial Mountain in a Bugatti when you boot up the game? Look forward to hours of unlocking 😛

    The bad
    – The HUD takes up too much screenspace with pointless info (do we really need to know windspeed and direction) and has hardly no tweaking options. Future patch please.
    – The constant nudges to spend real money is frankly insulting – seriously, its a 69.99 game, the grind is real, and it feels all too easy to say that this is to generate more microtransaction profits. I fully expect more cars to be added for ‘free’ down the line, requiring millions of in-game credits to buy – grind it out, or pay it out – what do you think they are hoping for here? (its money btw)
    – You will be grinding a long time for some cars, I’ve seen costs of 11 million credits for a single historic ‘used’ car, so…when you take the above into account, its the long haul lets put it that way o
