Halti Head Collar, Adjustable Head Halter Collar for Dogs, Head Collar to Stop Pulling for Small Dogs
HALTI OptiFit Headcollar
Steering the dog in the same way as the original HALTI Headcollar, additional OptiFit features ensure the perfect fit for all dog face shapes, from short-nosed Boxers to long-nosed Wolfhounds.
What is a HALTI OptiFit?
The HALTI OptiFit stops dogs from pulling by steering the head so the body has to follow. Invented by Dr Roger Mugford, the HALTI OptiFit has been designed to provide dogs with an optimum fit whatever their face shape.
How does it work?
Its unique design works by gently directing the dog’s head, in much the same way as a headcollar works on a horse. The adjustable chin strap maintains an optimum comfort fit to the contours of a dogs face, so whatever breed of dog wearing the HALTI Optifit, it will not rise up into the dogs eyes or touch the dogs flews (lips).
Highlights of the HALTI OptiFit Headcollar
● Optimum Fit: new contour hugging design
● Cushioned: internal padding for supreme comfort and durability
● Highly Visible: reflective side strips for additional visibility
● Secure: sliding camlock allows customised fitting for every dog
● Safety Link: for additional security
Fitting Tips
Time should be taken when accustoming a dog to the HALTI OptiFit, so that he has a positive association with it. Initially place the noseband flat in your hand and feed the dog treats, so that he is happily putting his nose through it. When he becomes used to it you can secure the neck section.
To ensure that he cannot pull the nose band back over his nose, slide the camlock towards his chin and lock. However, it is important that the camlock is not so high that it restricts his ability to pant, eat or to open his mouth.
When first using the HALTI OptiFit, ensure you continually praise and reward your dog, and feed treats to help distract him and to ensure it is a rewarding experience. Never leave the HALTI OptiFit on an unsupervised dog or he may chew it.

I have a fairly large German Shepherd who pulls excessively on lead. Having used this now for 2 Weeks, I can say this works extremely well! Although he was initially frustrated at being unable to pull, he soon learned. I have no difficulties in putting it on (he associates it with going out for a walk, so he’s actually excited when I put it on him), it has also helped with his off-lead heeling too. My only complaint is how didn’t I know about this earlier!!!
When I first opened the box my heart sunk as I thought it looked complicated to put on correctly, how wrong was I. It’s so easy to use and my Bichon hasn’t pulled on his lead since, he was a real nightmare to walk before and I dreaded his walks as I’m tiny. He didn’t like it being on him at first but has gradually got used to it and now he knows, no Halti, no walk! Money definitely well spent and worth every penny.
my 16 month old Vizslador is obsessed with chasing cats – squirrels- foxes – and just so happily bonkers excitable! This head collar changed our dog walks overnight . No longer pulls , a billion times easier to control an excitable adolescent dog ..sturdy , good value – and a separate attachment avail for clipping to her collar .
I suffer from Carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists so taking our very active patterdale a walk was quite painful, I purchased this and the HALTI lead highly recommend first time ever walking with slack lead but it didn’t alter her enjoyment. Would definitely recommend.
I was reluctant in wanting a halti for my spaniel but the pulling got so bad and so stressful that I was dreading taking her for a walk. I encouraged her wearing it with little treats so she wasnt scared and it was like pure magic no more pulling, wished I brought one sooner rather then spending so much money on other leads. Best thing I have brought!
One thing I will say though is do not take the advice on the sizes of what dog you have instead measure your dog as it was recommended I get a medium so glad i measured because my spaniel is a small
Without these noone else can take the dogs out because they pull like mad. It does restrict their mouths a little so on hot days, i normally use this for the first part of the walk then switch their leads to the harness.
I bought this leash because my dog pulls a lot. It now makes my dog walking much more pleasurable.
Used for our adopted Great Dane who came to us at 1 year old with no lead training. Definitely reduces the pulling and gives you much more control that a harness. Took a few walks for her to get comfortable with it but will happily wear now without issue. Can twist to one side a little so make sure it’s adjusted correctly. Also great to give control if you have a dog that jumps up a lot!
Does what it says it should. It was wonderful to walk without the pulling.
I’ve brought other Haltis but this make seems the best to me.
It’s very strong I’ve got a big German Shepard .
The nose piece doesn’t dig in or rub like other brands.
We have two highly energetic dogs – Cockerpoo and Labradoodle- who pull like crazy especially when together. The halti stopped them in their tracks. Followed advice by giving them treats the first few times and although they did try and get the head collar off initially, after a couple of walks they were fine. No more pretending they are huskies dragging us along the street!!
I have a very strong 1yr old springer spaniel. Sam is very strong. In Dec he pulled me no pull harness and damaged my achilles tendon. I have fibro, slipped discs ect. I firt purchased the original but wouldn’t fit Sam. Purchased the optifit. I love that the Halti head collar is totally adjustable for perfect nose fit for any dog. So easy to use. The safety clip on harness offers added security and no need to worry if he pulls it of. He Haa not managed to pull it of and Sam is very fit and very strong. Normally he takes a very stressed me for a walk, well more like drag. The optifit means he is unable to pull. No more stressed me. Day4 of using it and 1yr old puppy is walking perfectly. Added bonus us he very submissive with it on. This means I am also able to come in after a walk and groom him properly while he lays on the floor going gar gar. If you have a pulling dog I would highly recommend the optifit for both walking and grooming.
Effective from first use. Incredible! Previously tried harnesses with the front loop, but he just pulled like made against them, and figure of eight leads that made him totally miserable.
This Halti literally “just works”. No more pulling and a much happier dog (and owner!).
Bought this adjustable Halti as last ditch attempt to reduce the serious hazard of walking our new rescue dog who is a giant weighing 65k and lead aggressive. He would go crazy seeing other dogs, bark growl and lunge at walkers cyclists cars, basically, anything that moved spooked him. It was like walking a Kangaroo on speed. But not any more!
We did pay for trained dog behaviourist thankfully favoured more dog whisperer than Rodeo breaker. He advised us to be careful with introducing Halti collar as foreign rescues are often caught by metal nose rings, so might be re traumatised .
Some tips to pass on
1) Introduce this Halti nose collar slowly – short periods with lots of rewards. Because I was impatient, it took dozens of positive retraining sessions to overcome just one negative bucking bronco episode.
A few weeks later (and few pounds weight gain from all the training treats) he started to lift his muzzle for the collar.
2) For larger, stronger dogs we found a double training lead much safer (with a body harness) The Halti nose collar was then used for direction and control as needed.
3) We were advised to only tug the Halti as correction when he was lunging and always followed with a reward. It worked!
4) This adjustable Halti is preferred as it’s important to get sizing right or dog can slip out or remove.
The beast is now, without exaggeration, perfect on lead and walks are so much less risky and stressful. Sometimes I have to look round to check he’s still with me.
Unfortunately, he still reacts to dogs but he can now tolerate them across the road without going crazy. The behaviourist reckons he senses our new confidence and this calms him on walks. Either way we are so grateful for this collar and wish you best of luck with yours.
Really impressed wasnt sure it would work but 4 walks down and my boy is no longer pulling me at first he was scratching to get off but got used to it really quick. So happy would highly recommend, be sure to use it with the correct training amd rewards
Definitely works on my jack Russel – he pulls all the time – best thing ive ever spent money on – since wearing it he’s a lot calmer, stopped sniffing everything as we are passing by- walks by my side instead of pulling, sometimes its a little confusing when trying to put on as there’s two different straps, but its not that hard to use after a while of having it – bought a size small for him but its a tiny bit big but it still works –
House training was fairly straight forward and after a couple of months our dog was house clean. we trained him to sit, down and shake hands without a problem. But could we stop him pulling on the lead? No we couldn’t. We tried different harnesses with D rings on the front as well as the chest, different collars etc, nothing changed, he still pulled so much, I dreaded taking him out. Then my daughter heard from a colleague that his father was having trouble with his pulling dog, as he had Parkinsons and couldn’t hold him in check anymore. The answer? the Halti optifit head collar. On this recommendation I thought this worth a try, hoping it may help me. Well I am astounded in the difference. it has made. My dog now walks next to me, from the first time I took him for a walk. No pulling at all, incredible. When it first arrived I put it on my dog and distracted him with some cheese, and only left it on for a minute or so. I did this a few times that day. then the next day put it on him and took him out, the excitement (his, not mine!) on going out distracted him, and there he was walking beside me. I couldn’t believe the pulling had stopped, and am still amazed the pulling has stopped. I did first order the head collar without the optifit, but found that as my dog has a hairy face, it may have been irritable for him and he kept pawing it. But the optifit version, just a few pounds more, was more suitable for my dog, as you can adjust under his jaw for a comfortable fit. Would absolutely recommend the Optifit Head Collar.
I introduced my large unruly 6-7month old puppy to the Halti gradually. I had to watch the video several times. I used a double-ended lead and IT WORKS. Amazingly, it does work. He now walks beautifully with his Halti on for several hours; it gives him enough freedom to pick stray garbage up in the street, nose around under trees etc, but he doesn’t pull on the lead. (I put his old harness on him as well as the required collar, so that I can seize it if I need to drag him out of trouble. It’s not attached to the lead.) Main thing is, he seems not to be bothered by it.
My puppy Lab Rtriever is growing up fast and has now become strong on the lead!
I decided to research online information of dog head collars. Some opinions stated that these collars are cruel and dismiss them, whilst many more consider them a valuable contribution to improving the control and reduced hard pulling when on the lead.
Further, I talked to fellow dog walkers, and they all agreed that the dog head collar is well worth having. So armed this this information I looked online to choose one.
Eventually I decided on the Halti Optifit Headcollar. The additional feature of an adjustable head strap seemed the best choice for me as size measurements taken from a supplier may sometimes be questionable.
Delivery took 2 weeks due to being out of stock but that’s hardly Amazon’s fault.
The head collar is fairly light with strong flat material. Some reviews have commentated that it looks flimsy and has easily been chewed through by even small dogs and puppies.
I feel this statement is a tad unfair as it clearly states on the instruction not to leave your dog unattended with the headcollar on to avoid damage by chewing! (see attached image).
Imo, the Halti dog collar is well made, and the flat tape design is deliberate so that it fits the dog’s nose more closely with less hindrance to the dog’s line of sight. The adjustable locking padded nose strap offers better fitting around the nose with two fingers slack for mouth movement then locked in position Imo, this lighter and slimmer headcollar makes for a more comfortable fit for your dog.
There are many different makes of head collars on the market at present and all have their virtues and faults depending on your point of view.
For me, this type offers what I’m looking for and only time will tell if lives up to my expectations. I already have a Halti 2-clip training lead – so every bit helps!
So my owner was complaining I was pulling too much on our walks!! Guys I just got excited to go and explore, who can blame me the world is exciting place when your a dog. Anyways first time my owner put it on me I thought oh my dog I don’t like this and kept trying to take it off. But fast forward a few more walks and my owner keeps telling me I’m a good boy on my walks now, no pulling and she can just relax and enjoy walking. I still would rather not wear it but I got used it now and it’s not that bad I don’t keep trying to pull it off anymore . My advice to all my fellow dogs is give it chance as walking like a good dog means one thing.. treats!!!! and what dog could turn that down.
This fits my Fox terrier perfectly and she is so much better on her lead. No pulling at all and she has totally accepted wearing it.
What can I say, my dog hates it because he can’t pull anymore but my shoulders love it.
If your dog is a strong puller you need this in your life, it doesn’t restrict your dog from opening his/her mouth.
The padded strap isn’t the comfiest but at least it won’t cut into your dog’s nose. If by a slim chance the buckle becomes undone you have the added protection that its also clipped to the colla
I bought this for my 4mth lab. He walks lovely on it. Without this he pulls amd for a pup he is pretty strong. My partner doesn’t use it on him so is happy for the pup to walk him. The pup knows if I use it we ain’t messing about. I bought the lead to go with it so I can clip it to my waist and jog. Purchase both. The halti also comes with an extra clip that attaches to his harness so if he slips this he will still be atttatched to his harness and lead. Brilliant. My shep also has one.
No more pulling, easy and gentle head control. And I would say comfortable as the one before my dog hated. This one 2 mins training him it was ok to wear and no struggles to put it on. And he doesn’t try to rub it if like the previous one.
My cockerpoo was a nightmare to walk. He still doesn’t like this but it has transformed my walking experience. If the tension lapses he does his best to get it off but with some perseverance on both of parts this product really works for us .
We have tried a number of things over the. Years to try to stop our large dog constantly pulling on his lead, this is like magic & has stopped him doing it, he also doesn’t mind wearing i
This is the second one I have had BUT, I bought the wrong size. For my Rotty, it is too small. She needed the bigger one. Very good for walking big powerful dogs, without being dragged down the road.
My dog absolutely hates it but it does the job it’s meant to! I do find it a pain to undo when I want to let him off lead for some freedom. When he’s wearing it, appears comfortable but dog spends the first 10 mins of his walk trying to get it off and has succeeded once or twice! Soon settles down though
This has been amazing to use on my dog he’s an olde English bulldog 35 kilos I struggle to hold him back but with the halti head collar stops him bitting and to hold him back to prevent it plus to use with halti lead amazing combo
Really works – my border terrier had managed to get other versions off, couldn’t with this one, and seems fine with it now she’s used to it! Walkies more civilised now!
We have a pup that pulls really hard got this and wallah pulling has stopped. He doesn’t like it but it does the job. Easy to put on and easy to keep clean.
Worked well with one dog so bought another one for our 2nd dog.
Made walking my 40kg 10 month GSD puppy less stressful as he didn’t pull. Useful to have collar attachment – although it is a little long – my puppy rolls – gets his foot into it and pulls off the halti – hence good I still have collar control. Hopefully he’ll get used to it and stop rolling.
Took a few attempts to get fit right so it is tight enough but pup can still open mouth enough to pant.
Quality product which stops my dog pulling and aids training on walks
We have the halti harness and it didn’t stop our small beagle from being a nightmare puller on walks, so to say we were sceptical was an understatement, BUT from the first ever walk using this 5 weeks ago its like we have a totally new dog!
Its easy to use, although she didn’t like it on at first and can, with effort pop it off (beagles are renowned Houdini’s’) she will wear it 99.9% of the time without fuss and is happy to walk at heal for short or long (2-3 hour walks) with it on.
It doesn’t stop her taking treats, drinking or barking (although she barks a hell of a lot less with it on, so thats an added bonus).
We have unclipped it from the lead (as instructed in online videos), leaving halti on and walk her and she walks like a dream!
Highly recommend this with a harness and a two clip lead.
Stops you’re dog pulling you’re arm off if that’s what they are doing, its as good as any we’ve bought before
Our dog hates it, we love it. Stops him pulling my arms out the sockets!!
Love this product can’t say my dog does but have tried other tea methods to stop them pulling
This is the only one that has worked
My dog settles down after a few minutes and we both enjoy Wals now as does not pull constantly and stop both being stressed ou
Just starting using this on our 20 month old lab who is excellent apart from pulling on the lead. Getting there with this – Should have taken the advice and used this earlier.
Doesn’t really “stretch” but if fitted correctly its very comfortable for my dog she loves putting it on now as she gets a reward for “nose in” (only recently bought so training her to get used to it daily) she quite likes it so can’t wait to take her for a walk with it 🙂
Our energetic pup loves this lead. It helps her feel secure and now walks properly. Wish we had used it earlier.
My German shepherd used to pull like a bull, now she walks calmly beside me.
I would recommend
I have a 4 year old Cockapoo who just would not stop pulling on her walks until we were heading back home. I have tried harnesses but with no effect. It was spoiling our walks until we met someone who also had Cockapoo that pulled until she got the Halti.
I thoroughly recommend it as she does not pull quite so much and we can both enjoy our walks again .
This is a great quality I only have 1 draw back and that’s its rubbed on my dog’s jawline. This is not to say though if my dog was not so nuts this may not have been the case
This is well made dog control harness, easy to fit and works well.
This is definitely the best of the bunch.
It features a soft pad to go over the dog’s nose. It is so much better than those without.
Your dog will still have resistance when its put on for the first few times it wears it, but will soon get used to wearing it.
I have a 2 year old newfie who thinks she is a collie.
This halti stops her in her tracks. She has quickly learnt not to pull so much and will, in the shortness of time, learn to stop pulling altogether.
There is a knack to putting it on but that is soon mastered.
I recommend this above the others on the market.
here was nothing to like or dislike about the Halti
Could do with more padding around the top of the snout area.
Fast delivery. Good product for any breed any size but especially for large strong breeds it’s a must have. Best product for training to walk nice and not to pull in a class of it’s own. Doesnt hurt the dog and it works really well for training not to pull and instant different to when it’s not on, it’s the best product out the that gives instant results and also doesnt hurt or stress the dog out and the most humane product to use. Excellent value for money. Only slight issue is the plastic clip can sometimes brake but that was after 3years so still decent value for money and still worth it.
This is much better that other earlier versions of the halti. I believe my dog prefers this one and isn’t constantly at his face trying to pull it off. Other versions have left impression marks. This model is fantastic as it’s padded and hopefully provides comfort for my dog. It also has an adjustable clip below the chin which is another positive. I would recommend!
Our lab does not like it and will remove it at first possible opportunity
Great product dog does what he is told now what a differance
Very good control I used this halti on my previous dog which was out of control and he walked perfectly
This is my second order of a Halti Optima medium dog head collar. I bought one for my Eurasier and it helped control his pulling. I have now purchased one for my Belgian Shepherd Dog.
I purchased the medium fit for both dogs, despite the vast difference in the dogs sizes the medium works well. The collar is very flexible and adjust well to both dogs head /neck size. It takes a few adjustments to get it right and comfortable for the dog but this is time well spent. I especially like the fact that the head collar clips onto the dog’s own collar which is an added safety feature in case the head collar should slip off which has never done.
Life saver. For a little fellow, my cockapoo pulled like a freight train. We tried all the techniques that had worked for previous dogs. Nothing worked and walks were stressful. Then we bought this! It was instant. Dont get me wrong he wasnt keen on it on his nose. But with treats and patience he forgot about it. Walks are now stress free.
A bit fiddly to use especially when you are out and want to take it off do dogs can run/walk off lead and too big for my springer spaniel! Much prefer a field lead. However good quality and comfortable.
My dog has no problem wearing this. It has stopped him pulling completely.
I had one before but not one that has a nose comfort which looks comfortable on my dog
These really do transform dogs that pull. I have a 1 year old Labrador that can pulls like a train but popping this on stops her pulling and transforms her into an angel on the walking front.
2 minor problems, my dog clearly finds it uncomfortable – the main reason for this is that the piece that attaches from the muzzle to the collar is quite long so hangs down. When she walks with her head down sniffing around like a fool, her feet can get caught under it. You can tie knots in it to stop this to some degree but it isn’t adjustable.
The second is that it is a little fiddly to set up in the first place. This does mean that it can be tuned to the length and circumference that suits you dog – other than the previously mentioned strap – but takes a while in the first instance.
Overall worth a try if your dog pulls.
We had 1 year black lab and he used to pull a lot . It was almost impossible to walk with him. We have tried different make but he hated and they were difficult to use . This one is perfect. Comfortable, ergonomic and most importantly it is safe . It is a life saver .lol
The head collar really helps with a dog that pulls on the lead when walking
