What is a HALTI OptiFit?
The HALTI OptiFit stops dogs from pulling by steering the head so the body has to follow. Invented by Dr Roger Mugford, the HALTI OptiFit has been designed to provide dogs with an optimum fit whatever their face shape.
How does it work?
Its unique design works by gently directing the dog’s head, in much the same way as a headcollar works on a horse. The adjustable chin strap maintains an optimum comfort fit to the contours of a dogs face, so whatever breed of dog wearing the HALTI Optifit, it will not rise up into the dogs eyes or touch the dogs flews (lips).

Fitting Tips
Time should be taken when accustoming a dog to the HALTI OptiFit, so that he has a positive association with it. Initially place the noseband flat in your hand and feed the dog treats, so that he is happily putting his nose through it. When he becomes used to it you can secure the neck section.
To ensure that he cannot pull the nose band back over his nose, slide the camlock towards his chin and lock. However, it is important that the camlock is not so high that it restricts his ability to pant, eat or to open his mouth.
When first using the HALTI OptiFit, ensure you continually praise and reward your dog, and feed treats to help distract him and to ensure it is a rewarding experience. Never leave the HALTI OptiFit on an unsupervised dog or he may chew it.

This head collar really reduces the amount my large dog pulls on the lead. It started working within 15 minutes of 1st use. Have recommended it many times to other dog owners.
Can’t fault Haltis. They really do work to prevent pulling, even on strong dogs. This is our fourth one with this version being the best quality of the lot. Works a treat – just get the sizing right or they have a habit of slipping / rubbing the muzzle section off.

Perfect with a smaller dog , my dogue De Bordeaux did not like it on its shout as it is quite short , she tolerated it and it helped with the pulling but when she shook her head to try and remove it , I felt it would cone off .
This product is a lot better than the old halti head collars. Fits a lot better on my short nosed border terrier.
Our dog is lead reactive around other dogs. This lead does help although the clasp under the chin has come undone a few times whilst walking.
This halti is great for my gsd. She tends to pull quite a bit so with this on she tends to not pull so much.
This is a godsend for a hyper, resistant to training large Goldendoodle pup.
Doesn’t hurt him, only tightens when pulling. And he doesn’t pull with it on. The only item that works for a dog which prefers to take you for a walk rather than you taking them for a walk.

Had this about 6 months it’s great dog cant pull me off my feet now. Clip broke recently but still effective as I tied a knot in it. Padded and hasn’t caused any Mark’s or abrasions to my lab.

I have a really strong Lab mix and we are now finally able to have some sort of control on walks when he sees something he wants!! He knows the minute it goes on that he can no longer pull me about. This halti is extremely light, fits well on my hound, who I bought the medium size for.
Only thing I’m not keen on is the collar part is slightly slippery and found it slips loose. Hopefully some wear and age will stop this?!

My girl is an anxious dog on walks which leads to pulling. The old halti used to slide up over her eyes, the new halti stays snug over her muzzle and we are both a lot happier with it. Greater control for me, which helps reduce my dogs anxiety and is a lot more comfortable for her.

I found this to be much improved from the original halti which gave my spaniel a mark across her nose. She has taken to this version much quicker and has (nearly) stopped trying to scratch it off while we are walking. It does occasionally some off her nose, so the safety catch is useful, but it does not feel very secure so I also have a harness on my dog while walking near busy roads.
This is a good head collar especially as you are able to fit it to suit your own dog. It certainly does stop pulling too..Can recommend if you are looking for this type of head collar! Good price from this seller and excellent delivery.
Bought this for my Balck Lab who loves to take me for a walk. We’ve tried all the harnesses they say will work and nope he still pulls. But this head collar he stopped pulling instantly from the 1st time he had it on. I couldn’t believe the change would be instant.
Good product and does what it says, I would like for a more robust halti head collar for the larger dog as I feel that thought the item I have brought works perfectly well I would have liked to have purchased a more heavier head collar, I have a GSD, come on Halti give people a more wider range the item you are offering is not quite suitable for the larger more powerful dog.
stopped my german shephard /rottweiler cross from pulling me immediately, he’s a strong dog. It sits comfortably on his nose without squashing into his eyes and leaves no mark when taken off. As with all restraining collars, he soon got used to it and built up the strength to pull again but nowhere near as much as before and makes walking with both of my dogs much easier and so much less of a task to restrain him ( both dogs) when they see a cat! Unfortunately this style not suitable for lurcher as its nose band is to big and squashes into the eyes though the older style Halti with the thin nose strips is perfect. Well worth investing in to make dog walking a pleasure and not a full scale workout!
Totally stops pulling. Does irritate my dog a bit, but not enough to worry about and once he’s walking he forgets about that. This is the only harness I’ve found which stops pulling
very useful for training, would have liked a slightly thicker nose band for viszla puppy.
Comfortable and practical lead which works well with the halti harness, stops pulling straight away but my dog does try to get it off. Unfortunately the camlock broke after only 3 months and I had to use a cable tie to secure the nose band in a permanent position, but it still does the job.

Well made product.slight improvement on the earlier model.but my dog still pulls.
Used these for years, just give a bit of extra security to your Halti in case you have a wriggler who can get out of their collar/ Head collar, no problem to fix on to Halti and very hard wearing.
This has changed our life and also the dogs! They don't pull as much after a couple of weeks as they hate when it turns their head when it reaches the limit of the lead. I have never had my dogs walk next to me so much. Life changer!

Well, it works! After years of pulling our arms off, our otherwise excellently behaved 3 year old border collie is now a delight to walk on the lead. Thought this would never happen, but it was instant. Sure, for the first half hour or so she did keep trying to pull it off over her nose, with some success, but now she is much more interested in the walk than the Halti.
Bought for a strong boxer. She is like a new dog whilst walking on the lead! She doesn’t like wearing it very much but is gradually getting used to it over time. A medium optifit head coller fits her really well.
Only used once. But does what it says on the tin.
Works well. Though it can slip to side on occasion and need a little readjustment.

I saw on a negative review that this kept a dogs mouth closed and was ‘cruel’. Well it’s not. If this is happening you aren’t putting it on correctly. I’m attaching here a photo where you can clearly see the Halti and that the dog is free to pant, drink water, eat treats, the lot. It is perfectly safe and he is only occasionally irritated by it and that’s more that he knows he’s not able to bolt off after a cat if one strays into his vision!
I bought this item twice (once in medium and once in small) as I had no idea which size to get. When I eventually got the correct size fitted it works brilliantly. I have tried several different methods and this is the only thing I’ve found that actually stops my dog pulling like a strongman in a car towing contest. The dog absolutely hates wearing it but he is getting used to it slowly, the only reservation I have is that it seems to sit fairly close to his eyes. The item details could really do with more information to help people pick the correct size. Four stars instead of 5 because the dog hates it, it sits really high on his muzzle and there isn’t enough info to allow people to pick the best size.
This has been a lifesaver as my dog pulled so much before and now he walks nicely by my side. He still doesn’t like it much but I’m sure he will get used to it in time. I have a saluki/greyhound and bought the size 2 optifit which seems to be a lot easier to adjust the size than the normal one.

The old saying; “You get what you pay for” isn’t always true but in this case it was worth paying a bit more.
Update; 10th June 2016. It broke. It frayed where the stitching is and then the plastic clip that helps adjust the size fell off.

This has almost completely transformed my setter into a manageable walk, rather than being taken for a walk before when we used a harness.
Previously on the harness, he would pull with all of his body weight in the front and even as a six foot, seventeen stone man I would find myself being yanked along the pavement on the way to the heath.
This has changed the walk to and from the heath dramatically and for a dog as stubborn as a setter, that is high praise.
At first he scratched and clawed at his face every five paces on the way to walkies, not understanding the halite’s purpose but he soon learned that he cant pull ahead without turning himself to the side.
However my one gripe with this product is that when he tries and fails to pull the lead and get ahead, the halite slip that goes over his nose rotates to the side and twists a little, which appears to be uncomfortable for him. By tightening the clip that goes under his chin, he goes nuts and tries to chew the clip so I am left having to allow the twisting now and then but slowly and surely, I am following the DVD and visual instructions provided.

For reference, my dog is a medium sized Gordon setter and the medium sized haltie was more than sufficient for his size.
Am very pleased with this. I’ve used other dog head collars before and i think for my dog (a flat coat retriever) the fit is good. It doesn’t ride up into his eyes and it doesn’t tighten round his mouth to squash his mouth flaps. I would recommend.

Fits much much better than the normal head collar and works really well with far less objections as the nose piece doesn’t end up in the dog’s eyes. Both varieties do come with the safety that attaches to the collar so you don’t need the part that’s sold separately.
Wish we had found this months ago. Been brilliant for our staffy, he had a bad start in life so needs a little encouragement to walk on a lead and next to us, it is amazing, I have a little dog who will walk to heal now!! Great buy, recommend to anyone!!
Must admit, I didn’t watch the dvd until I’d been using it for two days, but turns out I was doing everything it suggested anyway. But I do recommend you watch it, it’s very laid back and informal and very short, so you won’t get bored.
A friend of mine with a golden retriever had tried a halti previously because her dog didn’t like it so gave up after one day. Having seen how well my puppy is doing, she has now given it another go (took two days for her pooch to stop rubbing his nose all over the floor and having a bit of a head shake frenzy) and she is now thrilled with her easy to walk dog.
I shall continue using this, as suggested by Halti, until I can move back to the collar once my dog is fully comfortable with walking by my side and no longer has the urge to pull. Don’t forget that praising good behaviour makes the training process much more fun for the dog and makes them eager to learn….I bought the medium size. It’s perfect for my dog but would also fit ( in my opinion) anything from a small collie or spaniel up to a big Labrador or retriever.
If you have a dog who pulls on the lead and you are willing to put in a little effort to let your dog get used to the halti, then buy this immediately. It really has changed our whole walking experience…it’s fantastic!!!!!
He hasn’t slipped his head collar with me, but I can walk him with the peace of mind knowing I have a back up there to keep him from running off and getting hit by a car if he does manage to slip the head collar off of his nose. I attach this link to my lead, NOT my halti, and then clip it to his collar every time we go out for a walk. That way, my lead is attached to 2 parts of him.
Bought this for my dads boxer along with the lead and the halti. I think the halti products are excellent and certainly help keep a boisterous dog in check. Arrived at 9pm ish on the expected delivery date.
