Arrived quickly. Good price. Good, trusted brand. Well made. Good size so easy to position.
Does what it says and will continue to di so for 10 years before changing the battery required.
The peace of mind this monitor gives me is priceless.

Perfect piece of mind for the silent killer Carbon Monoxide. My last one lasted for the 10yr warranty period + 2 months so works out at approx 2 a year. Small price for a potential life saver. Screws and backplate come with it to allow for mounting to a solid wall

Me and my mate got one each for the campervan. Obviously it’s a small space with gas bottles. Camped last weekend and his went off during the night and obviously woke him up .Found out his gas bottle was leaking so might just have saved him and his sons life..For 20 it’s a nobrainer I won’t ever camp without mine again.

Thankfully the alarm has not gone off but it seems to be monitoring. It’s a safety product above all else. Seems to arrive in more of a trade pack than a retail pack but it came with batteries which it said were excluded so bonus there. You should be aware there is advice on where to fit the product if permanently mounting it.

I bought this because I have been regularly pestered to buy one. I have an ageing boiler so probably a wise move.
Not being able to test this against a CO source, I hope it works. I like the fact this unit retains a maximum PPM CO reading (until reset). Mine has only ever recorded 11 in this respect. I am guessing it is a quirk of the unit at low CO levels and possibly outside the precision of the sensor. Obviously, cannot comment on the battery life at such an early stage.

This is an excellent quality CO detector. It comes with duracell batteries and can be either installed in minutes or just stand free in the desired location.
    Very clear readout.

Nice and small, easy to use and setup, digital display hasn’t shown anything other than zero which is a good thing. Easy to test and battery is lasting well so far. Provides another level of protection in the utility where the boiler is.

Got to have at least one of these for safty’s sake, we have three. One upstairs one by the boiler and one downstaires. I’ve had the one downstaires for the last 4 years and it still works fine, well it tests well…. Anyway these are well made and nice and clear to read. Odd thing though this latest one came with only a 7 year warrenty rather than a ten, hence only four stars.

had one of these before start beebing and didnt know why, was worried we had co2 in the house then found out it was at the end of life alarm lol. only heard it go off once before and it was because we had a gas fire and the outlet was blocked so it did save my mothers life. so defo got another one, this one to replace it. fab item

Maybe I’m dim but I was expecting a device with a 10 year internal battery. There are some on the market. More expensive though. The 10 year life is related to the sensing system.

    Summary:
The Kidde 5DCO 10 Year Life Digital Display Carbon Monoxide Alarm is a reliable and efficient device that provides peace of mind with its advanced features. It is a must-have for every household for ensuring safety against carbon monoxide poisoning.

    Positive:
    1. The digital display is a standout feature, providing real-time carbon monoxide levels, which is a great advantage for immediate response.
    2. The 10-year lifespan of the alarm is impressive and provides long-term security without the need for frequent replacements.
    3. The alarm is easy to install and operate, making it user-friendly even for those who are not tech-savvy.
    4. The device’s sensitivity to carbon monoxide is commendable, ensuring that even the slightest increase in levels is detected.
    5. The alarm sound is loud and clear, ensuring that it can be heard from anywhere in the house.

    Negative:
    1. The device lacks a backlit display, making it difficult to read the carbon monoxide levels in low light or at night.
    2. The alarm can be overly sensitive, sometimes triggering false alarms which can be a bit annoying.
    3. The device does not come with a power backup option, which can be a concern during power outages.
    4. The instructions manual could be more detailed for better understanding of the device’s features and operation.

Easy to install? Yeah – I just mounted it to the screws I had the previous monitor hanging from. IIRC batteries included with mine, so that was easy – just open the pack, and put them in the right way round.
Battery Life? Well, too soon to be sure, but our previous Kidde CO monitor was pretty good, so I expect this will be the same.
Easy to read? dunno – it is so straight forwards that I just bunged it on the wall. I think I read the manual for the post-installation test procedure, just to be sure.

Why did I buy this one?
Decent price, decent maker etc etc. This is the third monitor of the same make we have bought (they have a 7 to 10 year life span).
And the readout screen is nice, too. One can see a “sub-alarm” level – enough to show up, but not enough to trigger the alarm. Always nice to have that “heads up” that a problem may be approaching in the future.

You cannot tell if it is working unless you have an escape of carbon monoxide. You have to trust it. It was easy to install. It has a readout that says zero which hopefully is correct. It is what I expected. I tried a different one a few weeks before that was rubbish and showed a fixed reading of 287. That was different brand and was returned for a refund.

I have a non display one that kept going off for no reason. I prefered one with a display, so you can see how much CO, if the alarm goes off. I have is just sat on a high up cupboard, so not fitting. Easy as that. Seems fine, good prices, happy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI am an Elder at my local Church and in 2022 when I had the boilers checked and serviced I was told that government legislation was changing and that the Church would need to have carbon monoxide detectors fitted to comply with it. Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNice straight forward design. Like the fact that battery is replaceable rather than fixed necessitating throwing away the entire device.
My only criticism is that for some inexplicable reason the printed details explaining what the various beeps mean is printed on the inside of the rear cover . This means that you would have to remove the back cover if using free standing or remove the device from the rear cover if fixed to the wall to then read the faintly printed explanatory codes. I will be keeping the information sheet or at least a transcription of the information near to the device. I’m sure that it wouldn’t detract too much from the appearance of the device for the information to be printed in a more accessible site on the casing. Otherwise very good

Spoiled a bit as the display is not fitted in straight so looks cheap Also, you don’t get warned that the batteries have to be renewed yearly. I thought this would come with long life batteries. Also, how can a 10 year life be claimed when it only has a 7 year guarantee?

Hard to know what to say: the alarm hasn’t gone-off while nothing was happening so no false positives; and as we’re not dead the alarm hasn’t failed to go off when there was a lot of CO about so no false negatives either.

Easy to install, clear display, good battery life.
From a trusted brand, I’ve used Kidde for a number of years and never had any issues or problems with their products, not the cheapest but why compromise quality on something this important, and they are actually reasonably priced anyway.
    RECOMMENDED.

I bought a few of these when my daughter started complaining of feeling sickly and dizzy all the time.
Place them near the boiler, gas fire, and in her room just to rule out any carbon monoxide leaks. I like the display as it will tell you not only if carbon monoxide is leaking but at what rate,
General alarms just go off and you can’t tell if they are faulty of if there is an escape.
Put one in the car to take on our holidays when we are staying at a caravan as these older boilers are notorious for leaks if not maintained. Better safe than sorry for such a small price.

This device is supposed to detect and warn of the presence of carbon monoxide (CO), which should not be three to be detected. So in practice its expected function is to display a comforting zero. It does that perfectly; I trust that if there is a significant amount of CO gthen it will raise the alarm.
THis is quite a nicely designed device. There is a clever arrangement that makes it difficult to put it together if there are no batteries inside. The backplate doubles as the battery compartment cover and the wall mounting bracket. You can mount it with screws or just stick it up, or, as we did, put it inconspicuously on a suitable shelf. The alarm sound is shrill and quite loud – as you’d expect it’s like a typical battery powered smoke alarm.

Living in a small flat with gas central heating, I decided it prudent to have a decent carbon monoxide tester, especially one with a read-out, to be able to see what the level is, if any. Easy to install, quick test to make sure it works and that’s it. Sits on the side monitoring, silently … let’s hope it doesn’t have a need to sound off.

For many years just been using the simple dot on a square that never seemed reliable. Just had my boiler serviced and the engineer reminded me to get a detector and decided to review.

Why didn’t I do this years ago, for 15 a 10 year device that could save your life? This should be mandatory in any home with a gas appliance IMO.

Quality product, supplied with Duracell batteries. Batteries in, and it works, simple as. Nice loud audible alarm. Peace of mind for 15 can’t be argued with. Reviews suggested this was the one to go with and wasn’t disappointed. Delivered to Amazon locker no problem as well.

Brilliant little alarm. My old one went off randomly the other day and after re setting it was fine. So I wanted a digital one that actually tells you if it detects any carbon monoxide and how much. Mine hasn’t detected any luckily but I like seeing ‘0’ on the screen as this gives me reassurance. Alarm is loud so you won’t miss it and it blinks to show it has power and let’s you know when it needs new batteries.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery useful & handy item to have in a household if you have a gas boiler; small, neat device that can be attached to wall or say up on a kitchen cupboard; one is cautioned to place it up fairly high & to check regularly, although it will signal if the battery is failing. Had bought one of these previously when lived in another household so I know it works well. Was able to order quickly (with ease of payment) & despite covid, item delivered quickly well within delivery time stated. Well packaged too. Only gave it a 4 rating as don’t know for the long-term but hopefully it does what it says for 7-10 years.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNot easy to rate one of these. If it fails to work correctly you may not be around to claim a refund. And you cannot wait 10 years to report on the battery life. What you can say is that the unit has been manufactured recently (bought Jan 2021 made Sept2020) and it appears to be working. The green light is illuminated and the percentage reading shows a reassuring 0%. My existing alarm has an intermittent green light and although I guess that saves battery life it is hard to see. The new one is visible across the kitchen. My old alarm was 7 years old at which point it is prudent to replace but I shall run both until the old one expires. One is positioned near the doorway into the main part of the house.

Having just fitted a wood burning stove to our log cabin, I thought it prudent to install a CO alarm.

While this one was a couple of pounds more expensive than some others, it does have the bonus of a digital display, so we may well get advanced notice of my chimney fitting skills being sub par before the alarm actually sounds!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI liked the ease of fitting, we were replacing a time expired detector and it just a question of doing a swap.

I thought the build quality was down on the same device of ten years ago, e.g. sticky labels instead of mouldings. It would have been nice if the label had been squared up instead of on the slant missing where it was meant to go – speed of production maybe? That said the guts seem fine, which is what matters after all.

I was a little uneasy that the old detector (same model) might have stopped detecting earlier than indicated by the alarm noise, as the digital display did not show “END”, but was ambiguous. I changed the batteries to make sure anyway.

Ten years ago the instructions referred to a back light which wasn’t there, the detector before that did have a backlight (this is our third) which was handy. No backlight this time, but no reference eithe

For the past couple of weeks my husband and I have been experiencing headaches and feeling sick. We noticed an odd smell near our back boiler system which occurred when the boiler came on. It didn’t smell like gas. We had a CO monitor which was not being activated by the fumes, so we didn’t think it was that, but called a gas engineer who advised calling the emergency gas line. They sent an engineer out within 20 minutes, and his detector confirmed a high level of CO, which had not been detected by our monitor! He had to turn our gas off at the supply and mark it as unsafe. An advised trip to A&E confirmed we were ok, (phew) and a local gas safe engineer came this afternoon to do a full investigation for us. Turns out our boiler has a crack in the burner, which had led to rapid soot build up which in turn blocked the flue and prevented the CO and other fumes from exiting via the chimney. It has now been decommissioned and we’re getting quotes for a new boiler.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersBrought this detector to monitor for any carbon monoxide in under stairs cupboard where central heating boiler is placed. Nice neat little unit. Hopefully it will do the job, used test a few times alarm nice and loud so will definitely get your attention should there be a problem.

Golden Review Award: 77 From Our UsersOur previous CO alarm had reached the end of its life span, and I decided to replace it with this model. Everything was as described, batteries and wall mounts included. I had it unpacked, and wall mounted within 30 minutes. It passed all its tests and now sits alongside the boiler to do its duty. Every now and then it blinks a light to say its working, and I expect to hear nothing more from it until its batteries run down.
That is the way with detectors, you are buying peace of mind and you want them to run smoothly in the background with minimal attention. You do not want upheaval, a lengthy fitting process or constant maintenance.
So far this detector has done everything right, so I have every hope it will last for years.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersHad one of these (same model) for 10 years (until expiry date) and had no complaints. Test button always sounded the alarm. Very long battery life and audible warning when battery was low. Easy to set up with clear instructions provided. I have not died of CO poisoning so I can only assume it worked. It never alarmed during the 10 years so I hope that indicates my boiler is clean and not that the alarm is faulty. I guess one must have faith in these things – much like a smoke alarm.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersIt was a replacement item after 6 years use of the old one – replaced as we were perfectly satisfied with the old one it just ran out of time as indicated on the cover.

Golden Review Award: 40 From Our UsersI’ve been using Kidde products for many years now and they’ve all worked flawlessly. This one was purchased for my dad who is now 84 years old, so it needed to be simple for him to use and test with a clear display and loud alarm and it ticks all those boxes perfectly.

It’s not worth skimping on your safety with something when it comes to something like this – I’ve got a real horror story form friends who didn’t have a working carbon monoxide alarm and only just managed to get out of their bungalow when they realised what was happening. Tragically around 50 people die in the UK each year from carbon monoxide poisoning, don’t let your loved ones become a statistic when it’s easily preventable with a good quality alarm.
