I ordered the Maikita 4350FCT and it arrived extremely quickly which was a relief because my 25 year old Bosch was dying a slow painful death and I needed a jigsaw for a weekend project. I opened up the case and quickly tested it out. Unfortunately the orbital action was completely defective and I contacted Amazon customer service and they took care of us. But I can review it and compare it against a new Bosch JS470 which I bought.
Makita: good power, slightly smaller than the Bosch, shorter power cord compared to Bosch, I really like the LED light, I’m hoping the orbital action was just a fluke and does not indicate overall Makita quality.
Bosch: good power, slightly bigger than Makita, much longer power cord which I like, wish it had the LED light, orbital action worked like a champ, and finally the blade release initially appears the same as the Makita but has a significant difference. When you move blade release the blade comes flying out. Actually I find this a great idea because you don’t have to grab a hot blade to remove it. But, just point it in a safe direction and don’t lose it.
Overall assuming the Makita isn’t defective, they are a close match although I would probably give the edge to Bosch
Very nice jigsaw works as it should . Highly recommend this product and good price .
Excellent Jigsaw from Makita, to go with my other Makita power tools.
Great jig saw. I was looking for a new jig saw that was more powerful and an updated one from what I have been using. This Makita fit that requirement perfectly
great tool, used to cut holes in cabinet sides to route electrical and HTPC cabling. Definitely recommend
Super happy with this purchase. Great quality and design. Would definitely buy it again!
works great – cutting out 2×6 for Christmas presents. Light makes lines easy to see and blower moves the dust away so you can see
Happy with my purchase and worth spending more on this than cheaper models that don’t cut straight.
I love this saw. It is an amazing value for the money. The storage case could be improved a bit, as it is awkward to get the saw and cord tucked in enough to close it, but overall, I’m very happy with this purchase.
You get what you pay for great bit of kit….
I had several $90 jigsaws over the years, including Bosch, Hitachi, and some other brand I don’t even recall anymore. I can’t really complain about any of them, but they weren’t particularly fun to use. They were stupidly loud, heavy, and usually wouldn’t cut heavier materials in a straight line even with a guide rail.
In comparison with that, this one is a dream come true. It’s actually more comfortable and a bit lighter than my Hitachi, it’s quieter (!), and there’s a lot less vibration for your wrists to cope with. And yeah, it cuts straight in 1″ hardwoods and plastic stock.
Bottom line is, if you expect to use your jigsaw regularly, or if you need to make precision cuts, shell out the extra $70 and go with Makita. If you just need to make a rough cut every now and then, you will be fine with a lower-cost model, though.
PS. For the price, it’s a shame that you need to buy the dust collection attachment separately. Also, as with many other Makita hand tools, the attachment uses some inexplicably weird hose diameter, but nothing that can’t be fixed by improvising a bit.
This is a top notch jig saw. As good as the description says it is. I expect this saw to last a good long time. Substantial and runs like a dream with its variable speed motor.
I found this based on previous buyers’ reviews and I’m not one bit sorry I followed their advice. It works well and is very convenient. Only wish I’d bought it sooner.
After much deliberation between this jigsaw and the Bosch GST150 BCE, I chose the Makita due to some negative reviews of the Bosch as compared to the previous models.
The Makita 4350FCT was packaged adequately by Amazon and came within a purpose built Makita tough case. Included in the case was the dust extraction adaptor, 3 sets of jigsaw blades (2 pairs of wood cutting blades and a pair of metal cutting blades) and a plastic shoe for the base plate.
The jigsaw has a soft start mechanism which avoids jolts if having to restart in the middle of work and is not that noisy compared with other cheapy jigsaws. The grip is comfortable to hold and good control of the jigsaw is possible. I used the jigsaw with Bosch blades and obtained good results. There is the potential for blade deflection depending on the type of blade used as with most jigsaws but control of this can be down to technique. It would of been nice to have some form of deflection control device like in the Bosch 140GST.
The plastic splinter guard that sits atop the base plate is a useful addition as it has a small notch with which to follow a cut line which avoids the need to “lean in” over the jigsaw to see the line of cut as this jigsaw is “taller” than others I have used previously. It does sometimes get caught so after a while it will break and a new one will be required. The jigsaw unfortunately does not come with a guide rail that you get as standard with other cheaper jigsaws so straight cuts will need a straight edge. The FCT version also incorporates an LED light to shine on the surface being cut which really does help in darker environments. The LED light is illuminated when the trigger is squeezed and extinguished when the trigger is released.
The only downside is the dust extraction tool. It is quite small and has a small opening (about 20mm) and I think is purposely built for attaching to their dust extraction machines which is understandable, however, diyer’s like myself tend to connect such tools to old vacuum cleaners for a level of dust extraction so it is not possible to natively do so. I have not been able to come across an adaptor for connecting to a standard vacuum hose attachment so there is currently a lot of dust when cutting.
Overall, I’m pleased with the Makita 4350FCT, if feels like a quality product and enables good control. My particular downside is the dust extraction adaptor not being able to interface to a standard vacuum hose as compared with previous power tools, which gives it four stars for me, but I now understand that these products at the prosumer level tend to use these specific adaptors which are meant to be used with dedicated dust extraction machines. Keeping this in mind, you will not be disappointed with this purchase.
Great little saw. Used it to make a patio swing, in particular to cut curved 2×6 to describe the curve of the swing.
Best jigsaw I’ve ever owned, absolutely no regrets in buying this model.
Amazing jig saw. Power is smooth and the cuts are exceptional. Blade changes are a snap with the tool less system and the miter feature is nice and secure.
I’m very happy with this jig saw. A typical Makita quality product.
Entrega prcticamente inmediata.
This is a nice jigsaw. Makita has been improving their tool quality, while most other companies have abandoned product quality. This tool offers tremendous value with a fair price.
It’s a jig saw and it does it’s job well. I almost feel bad for docking it a start as all jig saws suffer the same problem, they have a tendency to not cut a perfect 90. By design the blades sometimes deflect giving you a bit of a bevel to your cut. I wish they would figure out a way to this, probably by going to a thicker blade or increasing cut speed. Either way I’m going to dock every Jig saw I review until some manufacturer figures it out lol. Anyway besides that inherent flaw it’s a great little Jig saw. The chip clearing fan isn’t super effective but works enough you have a “just clear enough” view of your lay out line. It’s comfortable and doesn’t vibrate to terribly bad. It’s definitely better than my previous two though. Bottom line, it’s a good little saw that doesn’t suffer from any more than all the other ones I have used.
The last 6 months I had to replace some of my older tools. My former Bosch Jig saw’s base broke and instead of replacing the base I opt to purchase a new jig saw. I made this decision because I love my 10″ sliding dual compund Makita miter saw and my 8.25 skill saw also makita. What draw me to decide on the this Makita 4350 jig saw was the led light to show where I’m cutting. I find myself at times using a forehead head lamp on some jobs. Especially when I must scribe a dark colored cabinet. Trying to see the pencil line isn’t always so easy. The Led light was just what I was looking for. I have seen the led light on a Festool jig saw but that price tag is more then double. I am more then happy with my new Makita 4350, the quick blade change is far better then the previous bosch. I’m also very happy that when I use down cutting blades the saw doesn’t job around like my Bosch, in its day my bosch kicked but its probably 15 years old and sure parts are worn so a new jigs saw was well worth it. I think if I purchased a new base I still would not have been happy. I will purchase a new base but it will be a shop saw and my Makita will be for the intricate installs.
Fantastic product. Has led headlight, blows away the dust and with the soft start, this tool could hardly be better….hey it is a Makita
Great Jig saw. I had been struggling to cut out some boards for a turntable project I am making out of hickory. My previous saw was a piece of crap and could not do what I was trying to do This saw cut the wood like butter.
GOOD DESIGN. I’ve had time to test this product in use for various kinds of cuts and materials. The light is a plus and blade change is very quick & simple.
It is Makita, so it works very well. It is made in Romania (Not Japan), but it is still better than China :). I am not professional, so I am using it occasionally and so far it is perfect.
This thing is a beast.I love it. It will handle anything. The LED light is great. I am not sure how I ever lived without it. Get a guide bar and you cut real straight. Case is good too.
If I could I would give it 4.5 stars. I had the bosch jig saws for years all the way back to the early 1990s. That finally broke. THe new bosches seem to be divided into a lower end model and a very expensive higher end model. This one cuts very straight. The light is a very good feature. Seems quite sturdy. Nice cord. I suppose the soft start is a good thing but I am not quite used to it yet. I’m a bit leery of the plastic piece that you pull back to change the blade. Adjusting the foot you have to do with the included allan wrench instead of some sort of tool-less method. Pretty sure it cuts straighter than the old bosch. Having the light outweighs the allan wrench adjustment issue.
Very Good! I’m sure I will use it for years. Only Milwaukee and Makita inhabit this range of quality. Above is fein and festool, below are Dewalt Bosch, below that is Rigid Hitachi, then the new Porter Cable, Ryobi etc. (actually I’m not sure where Bosch is going. They are confusing me as of 2014-2015)
excellant powerful jigsaw. Very easy blade change and Bosch blades fit it. Arrived barely 2 days after ordering
Fast shipping Great service.Would recommend all the way.Thank you
Wow, what a difference from my old cheepie whose switch went out with the replacement no longer available.
Haven’t used yet but as expected from Makita quality piece of kit. A+++
I like it, however pricewise I might have done almost as well for half the money. Skill at Wal- Mart has a good one. I passed on it for this.
After using this jig saw for a month I find it well designed, strong, and accurate.
Great jig saw! Easy to maneuver. Fast and easy to change blades. Works smoothly on cutting wood.
This is a good jig saw. I use to be bosch user ,but this is better ,lighter , cuts better and the light is very good feature.
What a great deal cannot believe I found this on Amazon for the price I’ve been looking for this product for quite a long time with the LED light and the power this has is incredibleI guess that’s why I like shopping on Amazon so much
Good piece of kit ,use it more than i thought i would
cuts like a dream. the blades that came with it are low end. go buy bosch blades with the order. i did and will not use anything else from now on.
how sweet that variable speed, love it!!! it’s like making love to the wood!!!
Great jigsaw I like it a lot better than my Bosch one.
Replaced my old B&D. Since I was about to fit a new kitchen (DIY), I though it warrantied spending a bit more. I read a number of reviews and held several makes in tool shops. This one felt nicest and price was good. So much better quality than some other makes. Superb in operation, accurate cuts, etc. Will probably out last me. I also own a Makita 18v Combi drill (again replaced a B&D), and can recommend this make for competent DIYers and professionals alike.
It is my the second Jig Saw, and I very satisfied with it . Now most of my tools is ” Makita”.
Volle Kaufempfehlung.
I previously bought a Bosch jigsaw as it is a proven brand and I own several different tools but it wouldn’t track a straight line even while using a guide… don’t know if I got a lemon. The Makita 4350 solved this problem. It’s a solid jigsaw and the quick blade change feature is great. It feels good under my hand and I’ll get the accessories to maximize it’s full potential.
super motor, really easy to handle and the led light is great. I don’t like it is very difficult to see the blade, specially when you are about to finish a cut and you want to stop at certain mark.
I’ve used only a few different brands over the years, including some pretty crappy ones, and decided to upgrade. A pretty dumb thing to cross off my bucket list! But here it is, and it works exactly as you’d want a hand held jig saw to work. The LED light is hardly worth mentioning if you have a decent shop, but I really depended on it. The dust is blown out of the way pretty well, too, with whatever air and vibration is going on. Most of all is just the handling of it. It’s a good size, not too small but still a one hand saw for sure. I bought several different kinds of blades out of curiosity and ended up using a decently priced Bosch fine tooth blade for cutting hard maple. It cut with steady precision, without wanting to pull either way, and it went as slow or as fast as I needed (to avoid error and burn, fast and slow). I don’t see how you can go wrong. A heads up–an almost seemingly identical saw with a different product number was much cheaper locally at Home Depot or Lowes (I can’t remember which) and I would check that out first. I had just gotten this one and was going to go with the flow on it. Also the reports of where the tool is made are outdated. As of 2013 they all seem to be made in SE Asia, not Japan and certainly not the U.K.
I purchased this to replace an old Craftsman jigsaw that I had been putting up with for years. Initially this was not my first choice, because at a set-building party for my daughter’s play last year, I had gotten to use a Bosch 1587 which was owned by another father who happened to be a contractor. It was awesome. Cut through everything we threw at it like butter. However, when I went to look for the Bosch, I couldn’t find it and the reviews on the newer models seemed mixed.
Having said that, I have owned many Makita tools and never been disappointed, so when I saw this jigsaw reviewing favorably, I figured I would give it a try. I have poor lighting in some areas of my workshop, so the onboard LED put me over the top.
I have to say I am not sorry. My first project was cutting patterns in 3/4 oak plywood and this saw did a great job. Clean cut, minimal drift, and the light was not as annoying to me as some other reviewers made it out to be (it does flicker in the motion of the blade). The case is sturdy. The quick-change blade housing is great. The saws feels comfortable in your hand, even after cutting through long stretches of 4×8 plywood. Haven’t used it with thicker material yet, but given the ease of the oak plywood, I don’t anticipate any let-downs.
One complaint I will agree with is the plastic anti-splinter fitting did pop out and won’t stay back in. That’s the only reason for the 4-stars, but functionally it’s not a deal-breaker for me.
Overall, I’m very happy with this tool.
i like the long cord ,it is powerful enough for my use , fast cutting . i find the bevel settings more difficult then my other saw .
Works like a charm! I’m redoing my kitchen and this has come in handy! Easily switches the blade for the material I’m cutting. Not to heavy for me like my old jig saw, it was not a Makita. Slight kick back at end of cutting, once I discovered that on the first cut, I was ready the second go round and no more crazy jerk.
5* TkU – excellent product, most bang for your buck. I have tried the rest – I think this is the best.
Only company that includes an LED! Super useful, cheap, reliable beginners jigsaw. Comfortable in every size hand, my only complaint is I’m left handed and the lock is right handed, but such is being a lefty.
I recenly became a big Makita-fan. Those tools are just great, sturdy, precise and compact in size. I had already many projects done with that jig saw.
Like it very much. Works well and seems very polished for what it does. I would highly recommend this jig saw to anyone.
Used on several home projects. The motor is strong and changing blades is easy. Easily cut 3/4′ pine. Blades do not lossen and fall out. The saw is well balanced and fits the hand well. I recommend this jig saw.
Cuts through just about anything I have thrown at it with little difficulty. Very easy handling, quick blade change and comfortable ergonomics. The clear plastic tear-out guard has a tendency to fall out and catch on the blade, but that isn’t the end of the world. All in all, a solid saw for frequent use.
One of the best out there PERIOD! Worth every penny. I prefer Bosch or Lenox blades for any jig or recip saw. Makita belives in plastic cases for there tools (protection). Thats why i’ll continue to buy them.
Does exactly what I needed. A powerful machine with good features such as the guide light is a good feature
I bought this jig saw as I decided to replace our carpets with laminate. This saw saved me so much time, was easy to use, and more importantly control the cut. If you are doing a similar job then I would recommend i
Amazing tool,Makita the best and reliable tools with ultimate performance
Best tool in the market.Im cabinet installer and have to used alot tools
Since a test Makita tools,I found the bes
I’m a hobbyist woodworker, but picky about getting great results. Having used a variety of yard sale and lower-end new jigsaws over the past 10 years, this Makita really stands out. Powerful and cuts a clean, square line. Blower and light are great “extras”, though I’m beginning to see that they are really essential in a modern jigsaw. Again, the adage “buy the best tool you can afford” rings true. If I had spent the 149 bucks a bunch of years ago, would have saved a lot of aggravation using inadequate saws and wasted less money. If, like lots of folks buying power tools, you’re on the fence about spending $149 rather that $99 on a jigsaw- do yourself a huge favor and buy this Makita. It’s a pleasure to use. And unlike your current jigsaw, when you reach for it you won’t have that little voice in your head saying “there’s a good chance this crappy jigsaw is going to screw up the cut, but I’m pressed for time and will grin and bear it.” You won’t regret your purchase, and you’ll have a great tool to pass on to the next generation. As and aside, I’ve been an Amazon prime member for a year or so. Have saved a lot on shipping and usually get stuff in two days. I’ve easily recouped the cost of the membership, but I also buy a lot through Amazon. Worth considering.
genauen Schnittlinie
Solid, strong, pro feel. this thing is great. easy blade replacement. Cuts smooth, strong, easy to control- straight or curve cutting. Best out of the 3 I’ve had over the last 35 years.
As usual for Makita, a well designed and well built tool – designed and built to withstand hard and regular use
Easy to use. Professional grade. Makes any job easy. Had an older jigsaw, but this one out trumps it by a mile!
I purchased the Makita to replace and old jig saw that saw better days. I researched this product online and found many favorable reviews. Made in the UK. Really like the light and the cord length is great. Plastic case should protect the saw for many years to come.
This power tool was what I expected from Makita a quality tool and the delivery from Amazon, free shipping with no damage. I would highly recommend this jig saw to anyone!
Had to cut a series of very tight circles and this 4350FCT came through with flying colors. Nice, easy start up, easy to control, true cutting line, powerful. This is a good saw.
decent tool, but was slightly miss led by other comments , stating it’s power. good at cutting anything under 30mm but does take a little longer to go through 40mm worktops and 4×2. very comfortable to use , and a really gentle slow start that helps a lot , overall this is a very good product , but it is not as powerful as my old bosch GSI.
It cuts cleanly and evenly on jobs requiring a nice smooth cut. The light and dust blower make this one of the best designed tools I have ever owned.
I picked up the Bosch T5002 blades to go with this. It cuts quickly and, if you check the settings, very smoothly.
This jigsaw works very well, no vibrations, LED helps to see a line. It comes with plastic protective plate to slide on the bottom to protect the cutting surface.
Up to now I find it has performed even better than I first expected. It is very robust and with an extra lomger saw blade
I am able to accurately cut larger thicknesses of wood. One of my hobbies is woodcarving and for cutting precisely
through thick pieces it is ideal
It cut a 2X4 lumber easily without stall. You can change blades without using tools. The LED light helps to see the line of cutting. The quality is very good. I would recommend this to a friend.
This is a nice quality jigsaw that makes smooth clean cuts. A bit awkward to fit into the case, but that is not a big deal considering the quality of the item.
I really like this saw. The blade is held firm closer to the base which keeps it from flexing too much. The guide light is helpful. The sawdust still tends to collect in front of the cut, so still requires blowing to clear. Cuts easily and smoothly. Great saw.
Makita has been making tools for people that need to depend on them to make a living. As an amateur and ‘do it yourselfer’ this is a great tool. Easy blade change, well made and plenty of power.
eceived over the weekend and used it to cut some thick boards. it is very good, powerful and smooth. It is very easy to put saw on.
Wow. Gotta say I am seriously impressed with this Jigsaw. As ever Makita’s build quality is superb and it is beautifully balanced so although it is quite a heavy piece of kit it handles easily and cuts just so smoothly. I previously had a fairly old Bosch which has done good service but was just getting too worn to give a decent cut anymore – I recently had to trim down some 2 x 4″ lengths and the Bosch just couldn’t keep the cut straight, but this Makita went through it like the proverbial hot knife through butter – what a difference! I have so far used mine to cut several types and thicknesses of wood, and it literally flies through each task. It has been a pleasure to use, so much so that I am finding myself actually looking for projects around the house that I can do with it!
Makita jig saw is a great saw, it will handle most anything that you want to cut. I have used it to a make cuts on some 4x4s for post, cut metal pipe, and my wife used to cut a pattern in treated plywood for her graden.
I was very impressed with the comfort and weight of this saw. The light is great and I have never owned a jig saw that would cut a sliver off of thin sheet metal without destroying the project. It is also easy to change blades.
I have had many jigsaws in my woodworking life but this is easily the best, a great product. Cuts where it is supposed to do easily and without vibration.
I’ve used this jigsaw and the DeWALT DW331 which I got at HD for about 150 including tax. I’ll try to give you the main differences (main to me, you might have entirely different priorities:)
The Dewalt has a lever in back that you just swing out to adjust the angle, very convenient. BUT, when trying to grip the saw to get the most stable hold, that lever in back was often a major annoyance. The Makita uses a hex key (which stores in the base) to adjust the base, much less convenient, but, no lever to constantly get in your way:)
The Makita has an L.E.D. light up front, which was a major selling point for me. The thing is, in practice there were very few instances where I actually needed more light with the un-lighted Dewalt. In fact, staring intently at the cut line and out of your periphery seeing the cast shadow made by the Makita’s L.E.D. changing hundreds of times per second, it’s disorienting/nauseating. Although you could always just cover the light with a piece of tape like I’ve done…
They both have blowers to keep your cut line visible and free of debris, and they both suck, especially at low speed, but the Dewalt’s really sucks. The worst part about the Dewalt is that right below the trigger from the side vents, you can feel this powerful gust of wind blowing on your hand, but in front where the saw-dust is piling up on your cut line, there’s just this anemic whisper:( The Makita’s blower, while also anemic, did at least a mediocre/acceptable job of keeping the cut line visible:|
Cutting: The Makita cuts better, FACT! But the Dewalt is taller, which may be why I wasn’t able to get as straight a cut with it? Still, the green jig just has this tortoise-like consistency and smoothness, that the yellow Dewalt just isn’t able to match. It’s this extra bit of squirreliness which is why I think the Dewalt is inferior to the Makita.
Finally: The Dewalt came with a MUCH nicer and sturdier case, by comparison the Makita case feels cheap and hollow, with a horribly designed (and painful to hold) handle, cheapo eager to break if you look at them funny latches, and no dedicated area for spare blades. Also, the Makita is a bit quieter, but not much, they still both sound like a shop vac.
Finally finally: I’ve tried to be fair and blunt in my review. I think there’s alot someone could love or hate about either machine, but when it comes to cutting performance the Makita did a better job.
This saw is everything i wanted it to be. It is very easy to change blades and i like the variable speed. This was a good purchase.kk
Not a professional carpenter but more of a pro DIY. Been looking for a new jigsaw. Have had a variety of tools from different makers, but am a big fan of Makita. They are just so much more solid than other tools. Might be more expensive but you do get what you pay for.
It is a great solid piece of machinery. My only ‘gripe’ is that the box for the jigsaw will be a snug fit once you open it. The cord and machine are hard to get back into it in the original ‘packaged’ condition.
I love this jigsaw. I had a Bosch before and it was poorly designed. Couldn’t keep a vertical cut (seemed gutless) and blade changing was ridiculous. This saw is powerful, makes a nice clean cut in 1.5 inch maple. Blade changing is snap. Was a little confusing as listed in Amazon. Indicated that it was 240v. I realized this after I had purchased. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was 120v when it arrived.
A real pleasure to use, well worth the money. Doesn’t vibrate near as much as my old B&D, light on cut and blower work well. accessory anti-chip plate, and accessory face plate to protect surfaces are both nice additions. Has the feel of a quality tool. also, it is fairly quiet.
This is only my second jig saw so my experience is limited. However, compared to the inexpensive jig saw I had before this is a pleasure to use. I’ve had it about a month using it on 3/4″ plywood, pine and popler. It’s comfortable, smooth to use and easy to follow a line. Glad I spent the money!
I built a pergola and decided to shape the ends of the rafters my old jigsaw made a mess of the first attempt, in addition I had ro rig up a light to see the cut line and continually blow the saw dust away.
The Makita has a built in light, motor air discharge takes care of the dust and the cuts are perfect. Excellent produc
I honestly haven’t used it much. Purchased it because my Port a Cable fell and bent the saw plate. Time for a new one anyway. The Makita is quiet and runs smooth. I like the way the saw blade is inserted and roller guide which the port a cable didn’t have.
After much frustration with a Black & Decker jigsaw and a Milwawkee jigsaw that would not cut a straight line or a circle using a guidebar, I have one that will!
I took the Milwaukee jigsaw to the local autherized dealer twice and sent it back to the factory once and it still didn’t work properly.
The LED light and effective chip blower make it especially easy to use.
The only thing that would make this saw better would be to make it cordless. The 4350 is a hard working, versatile jig saw which performs well even for the most demanding projects.
