I Love this reminds a lot of Spider-man 2 game back in the day only just perfected more then I thought possible,
this is like the Arkham Knight Of Spider-Man games! great combat great movement webbing around New York has never felt and been so fun!
This Is one of those rare games that you don’t see to much now days where clearly so much love has been poured into it, and resulting in a game that is beautiful to look at and to play if you like Marvel or superhero games in general than you’ll most likely love this as much as I do!.
This is a really good game with some amazing graphics, i’m 16 and this is one of the best games i have played there is a lot to do with a good campaign, there are lots of items and skins to unlock with a a lot of abilities. After the campaign is finished there are even DLC’s to play. Recommend this to everyone especially marvel fans.
The game is very fun. It’s not a masterpiece is just a solid well made, fun, spiderman game, obviously the best the spider ever had. This is enough for the game to be celebrated because he has absolutely no competition, there are no games made like this in new gen, for others heroes (batman like but newer, less dark, more action, less thinking).
it’s the classic sandbox game with filler quest (very plain and repetitive, but the codex is very well filled), but the gameplay is fun enough to hold the whole game, it’s very very funny to keep swinging in the city. Graphics is really great for a limited hardware as the PS4/pro, i’m impressed. One of the funniest game on PS4, no doubt.
OFF topic:
Amazon.it is usually great with customer support, my sister bought me an amazon gift card in UK (she lives in london) and i bought this and spyro with a little more money added for the difference. Both arrived destroyed and the only option i get is to resend them (and wait like another month?) to get refound-sostitution (yeah to get another one destroyed, because they have no intention to protect them, they usually use the littlest package they can). The package was perfect, but with absolute no protection inside, well done, amazon.co.uk.
If you’ve ever played any of the Infamous or Batman games then you know what you’re getting yourself into.
The presentation for this is great throughout — a lot of love has been put into this. Obviously the big draw here is being Spidey, but there’s several characters (both good and bad) involved with the entire storyline — some get more attention than others, but I enjoyed how each was integrated into the story. I know some people didn’t enjoy the MJ or Miles moments, but I think they were nice additions.
The web-swinging (travelling) is an easy operation, and the web-slinging (fighting) is good fun. You’ll unlock more skills as you progress with the main story, as well as undertaking side-quests and challenges. (The main difference when compared to the Batman games is that Spidey doesn’t block, he dodges).
There’s a bunch of side quests and challenges to do… these can get a little repetitive, but i found by doing a bunch of them in-between the main story quests worked out well. I’ve managed to complete every single one, even finished with a gold-star on the ‘Drone’ challenges from Taskmaster.
If you’re a trophy hunter, I’ve managed to Platinum with a fair amount of ease, and if you’re into ‘New Game +” then you can earn a couple of more. There’s also the City That Never Sleeps DLC available now, but I’m going to ignore that for now.
A fun game that any comic book or action fan should play.
Takes me back to the old days with the older PlayStation spider-man games but with the next gen graphics and gameplay. Bit like Arkham games but with Spidey. How is that a bad thing?
This game is fantastic from start to finish. Swing your way through New York as you take on various bad guys and henchmen on the way. The combat style is very similar to the Arkham game series and there are plenty of side missions and challenges to keep you occupied. Immersive and so much fun. Buy it!
What a game! It’s amazing (spider-man). The map is huge, the level of detail super impressive and the missions fun. Yes there is a little bit of repetition, but it’s so good I don’t mind doing the same thing again! I would say it’s seemed to mash by joypad.. but that could just be me!
Masterpiece of a video game, insomniac really captured the feeling and personality of Peter Parker’s Spiderman. Story missions are definitely jaw-dropping and rarely become repetitive. It makes great use of the open world with the optional activities to part take in and side missions. I’m currently 50% in total completion and I am loving every second of i
he most amazing graphics in any game i’ve ever played. it’s more of a story mode- there aren’t many in game purchases it’s mainly all in the game, amazing in general
This game is best on a 720p TV with mono speakers. It looks great and plays like a dream in terms on multidirectional swinging and movement within an open, and extremely detailed, yet soulless city. The lack of the ability to punch pedestrians is quite frankly terrible, as is the inability to throw pigeons into the water or into buildings despite these glaring omissions, I give it a solid 8/10 or 9/10 should pigeon throwing be included in future.
Thwipp thwipp
Spidey sense tingle
2 ordered to keep 2 spidey fans happy, me being one of them. After playing spidey games for well over 20 years since the handheld LCD game this has got to be the best since the ps2 revelation that was Spiderman 2, “after touch” on web slinging has finally returned to add style to the best way to travel round nyc , hand to hand combat very similar to the Arkham Batman games (high praise) and a fantastic system of upgrades and suits to collect as well as some great battles and crimes to solve this is not obly as good as the previous best this is the best spidey game ever. The DLC was a wee bit overpriced compared to game time to finish it bit the game alone has loads of hours of gameplay if you mix it up and gather upgrades in between story missions and side missions.
Stan Lee we miss you but this game is a fitting tribute to your chamazingness:-)
Its amazing but some of the repetitive task get a tad boring and feel like filler. that aside its still a 9/10
The game came in perfect condition. It was sealed as it said, and it arrived quickly. Gifted it to my boyfriend for Christmas and whenever we are home now… I don’t see or hear from him! So yeah, if you want some peace, I’d definitely recommend buying
This game gives Spider-Man 2 a run for its money on the PS2 and I’d say this game is better.
Spider-Man provides you with plenty of things to do in the game, from collecting suits, completing the main game, completing challenges and collecting items spread around the map.
The gameplay is very good, with very fun fighting mechanics unique to this game as well as a variety of moves and special abilities.
The Story is engaging and you feel for the characters and want to complete the story. Also, there’s a great variety of enemies and bosses for you to face, making sure this games doesn’t get repetitive.
By far along with X-men Legends and Spider Man 2 are my favourite marvel games and i seriously recommend picking this game up.
Hard to put this into words, very typical Spider-Man vibe to the story, fun, quirky, a bit dark. Great swinging mechanic, combat is challenging, but not Japanese hard. Absolutely blast to play!
My kids abaolutely love this game the graphics are like real of this game tje delivery service was brilliant it came very fast and the kids couldnt wait to open it im writing the review late as it was a christmas present and was opened on xmas day well the game made the kids happy so cannot complai
I’ve never been much of a gamer, due mainly to not having the time needed to play them. Spiderman is probably the first open-world game I’ve played; other than the GTA games. Instead, I’d restricted myself to the realms of multiplayer COD and Battlefield, as something I can dip in and out of at my leisure.
This game changes everything.
As Spiderman, Peter Parker, and a host of other characters throughout the game, you can follow a prewritten path, completing the main story as directed. Each section leads you to the next etc etc. However, you don’t have to do this. There is so much extra to explore and complete, that just solving crimes as they happen should keep you busy enough – heck, even swinging from building to building is rewarding!
I absolutely love this game – I’m probably only around 20% in to the actual story of the game, but the side missions, and object-finding parts of the game are great for when you only have a couple of hours to kill.
Overall, I can’t recommend this game enough. As a fan of Spiderman anyway, this game was always going to appeal, but I was not expecting it keep me so busy.
If you like games, and own a PS4, you should be buying this game.
If you like the batman Arkham games you will love this what can I say but perfect can’t wait until the next one very fun Wil keep you entertained for hours.
It’s a really well done Spider-Man game, having so much fun swinging around doing side quests and getting collectibles sometimes forget to do the main missions. Being able to craft different Spidey suits is awesome as well many familiar ones with individual powers. Must get for any Spidey fa
This was a good game it was better then the the ones on ps2 only problem was the running to web was not good as the second one and this game also takes a lot of GB
I’m a few hours and and so far I find it a little overrated, but looking forward to seeing where it’s going!
This PS4 exclusive game is just awesome. The story is probably the best Spiderman one yet that is crammed onto a disc. The graphics are amazing and highly detailed, even npcs have a rediculous amount of detail. The mechanics are great, taking what worked from previous spiderman games and incorporates it into this one, with a fresh view from a new developer.
Mocap on the characters are amazing and they seem like real people.
You change to different characters throughout the game, like MJ and Miles as well as actually being Peter Parker from time to time.
The best part by far is that it’s more mature. You deal with mobsters who act like they are straight from the Batman games, they shoot guns at you, real guns. Characters face tough, real life choices that keeps you wanting to play more and yet spiderman is the same quirky guy as before.
The locations are beautiful and very true to the real life new York. (my guilty pleasure is visiting locations from films and games like Ghostbusters and Division)
Honestly if you are a fan at all and have a PS4. Pick it up.
Such a great game. Similar to the batman Arkham games but completely on its own merit a fantastic game. Love the New York setting. The story is interesting enough to keep your attention and there’s lots of side missions and dlc to keep you playing. The new addition of new game plus is also great! A must have!
Such a good game! Found it very difficult to stop playing, great story line and an awesome concept. I am a physio by day, and swinging around New York fighting crime by night. Visually beautiful.
Brilliant game – occasional bug but I didn’t get many at all. Gorgeous graphics and fun gameplay, keeping an open world while still being well populated. Plot carries you along nicely while giving you room to breathe and is emotional enough to make any a spiderman fan dewy at the eyes and elated at the same time. Fantastic.
I bought this to get my kids off Fortnite and it has done the trick.
This is a great game, but maybe not without its little flaws. Although Spider-Man for PS4 does get a lot right: swinging, combat, story, Spidey’s personality, etc. there are a few things I found a bit annoying. As an example, the Sinister Six team-up is teased but really only incorporated into maybe 5% of the game – the majority of the story focuses on Mr. Negative, a relatively new character to Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does feel like there was an opportunity here that was perhaps wasted. The story itself is also fairly predictable, even though it’s held together with some really great performances throughout.
There are a lot of busy work tasks to complete like collecting backpacks, landmark tokens, research tokens, pigeons (yes, really) that, while not bad, never feels particularly interesting, either. I also found myself surprised at just how much aerial combat there was, particularly late in the game, when the combat system frankly doesn’t support it very well. The last few fights are more annoying than challenging, particularly the final boss, who feels cheap and unwieldy.
There are also occasional stealth segments where you play as someone other than Spider-Man and must sneak past armed enemies. These are usually pretty short and decently-constructed, but every time one popped up I wanted to rush through so I could get back to being Spider-Man already.
Overall I definitely enjoyed my time with it, the photo mode is great, it looks and feels fantastic, I love the optional suits and just how satisfying it is to see them in motion, but it’s definitely not without some flaws.
Nevertheless I would recommend this game to others and particularly if you want to get your kids off Fortnite!
*** Please could you click Yes if my review has helped you in any way ***
Without a doubt better then every game this year including Red Dead Redemption 2. If you don’t already own a PS4 then this game on top of the rest of the exclusives that Sony has easily justifies the purchase. I wasn’t so interested in this game but was blown away whilst playing it. Never a dull moment and the ending was fantastic. Well worth the buy whether your a fan of Spider-Man or not.
This is incredibly the best ps4 game ive played. Even though its one player, the levels are great, the puzzles and challenges are great. Awesome quality picture and sound. Expect nothing less from the game. The suits are crazy mad. Cant get enough of this game.
Great voice acting, amazing combat but where this game lacks is in difficulty. This game is incredibly easy and takes away from the gameplay in my opinion, it’s almost hard to die. A few nice surprises at the end, would recommend but not flawless by any means.
An absolutely brilliant game in stunning uhd. The game is massive and you can freely roam NYC defeating crimes and other challenges without doing the main mission. I am totally hooked and extremely impressed at the level of detail. Well done Insomniac games. Looking forward the the DLC and sequel! A must if you have the PS4.
Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
I bought this game a couple of weeks after launch, after reading a number of very positive reviews (which were very well deserved). It’s fantastic! Everything about it is great… The graphics, the gameplay, the script, storyline, voice acting and sound effects, the controls, the combat and the movement through New York city are sooooo well executed. This surely has to be a candidate for game of the year.!
I have a PS4 Pro and a Sony 4K OLED TV, and the graphics are astonishing. You’ll notice so many fine details in the rich environment in this game, that you’ll wonder how the programmers, animators and graphic artists even got started. IT IS SO GOOD!
The control methods are great, and whilst combat can prove to be difficult on occasion, levelling up your skills and defences proves very rewarding over time.
The story is completely engrossing, with loads of clever plot twists and references to the comics and wider MCU. There’s even a special guest appearance by……. Oh, I’m not going to spoil it for you!
This is a huge open world game, with such a variety of gameplay styles and challenges that I’d defy anyone not to adore this game.
For me, this game beats God Of War and Red Dead Redemption 2.
BUY IT!
The game’s amazing, gave me the same sense of swinging around like the early 2000 Spiderman games. Story is better than amazing Spiderman and homecoming combined. Overall one of the top 10 playstation 4 games period.
One of the reasons I bought a PS4 this year. This game captures the spirit of Spider-Man from the conic books. The gameplay is a joy. Swinging through Manhattan’s skyline is fluid and intuitive. The story is solid from start to finish. The game successfully makes you emphasize with Peter, Aunt May and supporting characters. A perfect foundation for insomniac games to build on and turn this into a new franchise
I’ve taken my time to write a review of Spider-Man. I completed the game a few weeks ago and have been mulling it over since.
I had very high hopes for this game during its build up. Like many, I had great memories of the classic Spider-Man games on the older playstation consoles and really wanted this to live up to that. I was so relieved when it did and then some!
Played on a PS4 Pro through a 4K HDR TV, the game is stunning to look at. The cityscape is breathtaking, particularly at sunset, and swinging your way through it’s buildings, parks and skyscrapers is a joy to behold. Frame rate is solid, no noticeable dips on my playthrough, even with a lot going on on-screen.
Gameplay-wise, it does follow most other modern-day 3rd person action games. If you’ve played Assassin’s Creed, any of the Arkham games, Shadow of Mordor or Horizon Zero Dawn – you’ll slip straight into it. It combines the elements we’ve come to expect but does so in an engaging way. At first, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of icons on my mini map, indicating the vast number of collectibles, side quests and other bits and pieces to investigate. However, I never got the same sense of ‘chore’ that often happens in those situations. I think this is primarily because the game navigation and combat is SO GOOD. I didn’t use the fast travel system in the game to get anywhere; swinging around Manhatten and watching Spider-Man effortlessly navigate anything that gets in his way is fantastic to behold. It’s fun in of itself. Coupled with a similar combat style to the Arkham games; one based on counters, fluidity, gadgets and finishing moves – nothing felt like busy-work.
Sure some of the random crimes get a little repetitive at times, especially if you’re looking to 100% it (it’s actually my first platinum trophy and apparently one of the easier games to 100%), but there’s enough variance and distraction to keep you going. Each crime has a series of challenges to max your score, for example. All of the collectables add up to allow gadget, gear and suit unlocks – some of which are very cool.
I’m in the midst of Red Dead Redemption 2 at the moment but once I’m done roaming the wild west, I’ll be straight back to New York, with the DLC packs in hand 😀
One of the best games on the PS4. Can get a little repetative though great graphics, good fun and top storyline for all Marvel fans
A refreshing story albeit shorter than some but I really enjoyed it. Gameplay is really fun reminds me of the Spiderman 2 PS2 game from when I was younger though thankfully there is no kid loosing his balloon and crying all the time. Web Swinging felt smoother and combat although remenicent of the Arkham series felt suited enough to be Spiderman. Won’t spoil anything but nice set up for a later game and at this time the first of the DLC left me wanting the next chapter. Disk and box arrived swiftly and in perfect condition so as usual happy with Amazon. Yeah the superhero genre isn’t for everyone but if it is for you then get this game well worth it. 5*.
Really beautiful game with great open world game play. Loved the swinging aspect. Thought some of the aspects were introduced too early given that they were impossible at the characters level when they were introduced. They were fun once the character had leveled up a bit though. Loved the parts where I could stealth, could definitely have used more of them. Took a while to get into the story but was very invested by the end. What took it to another level and made it really interesting, however, was the introduction of other characters in segments where you could play as them. Having that other story aspect from other points of view allowed for more investment in the story. Game play is intriguing but lots of controls to get to grips with.
This is not just one of the best detailed game ever, but the story is a real gem too. Great characters, good lines. A must have for any Spiderman fan (or Marvel fan for that matter, it even has the usual Stan Lee cameo) and for any vide game lover.
This is an easy game to pick up and play. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is varied.
I hate game bosses usually but this is actually a joy to beat.
The side quests are actually quite varied too if you don’t tu and do them all in one go. Space them out between missions.
Every Spider-man game since Spider-man 2 has been compare to and failed against Activision and Treyarch’s amazing title. This PS4 exclusive Spider-man, this time handled by the excellent team at Insomniac Games is possibly the first time a game in the series not only matches up but exceeds the benchmark.
Instead of following any particular Spider-man movie or media version, Insomniac Games have gone with a generic version which works in their favour, not being bogged down by having to fit in with previous storylines and able to feature a huge swath of characters from villains to old friends and some who have yet to become either.
The game sees Peter Parker working for Doctor Octavius after having quit the Bugle but is finding it tough paying rent and saving the city at the same time. His ex-flame Mary Jane Watson is on hand for advice and support, as is Aunt May, now working in a homeless shelter while Norman Osborne runs the city as mayor.
After an early run in with Kingpin, serving as a subtle tutorial, leads to his arrest and the breakdown of his gangs, another mysterious group take to the streets, causing problems for Spidey and his friends. Unravelling the mystery of this group will lead to a few big surprises and some even bigger troubles. It’s a well written story which will have you intrigued until the end, even setting things up for the possibility of DLC based add-ons without you feeling short changed.
The biggest feature this new Spider-man has in its favour is the web swinging. Making your way through the city is a wondrous thing, far more than any Spider-man game before it (yes, that includes Spider-man 2). The developers have managed to create simple but nuanced system for allowing you to swing around, leap and climb with ease. It flows nicely into combat, too, as you come across street gangs and go straight from swinging to webbing up an enemy and hitting them at full force in one seamless action.
Combat feels like a more refined version of the Batman Arkham games, a compliment indeed, with web based moves and close quarters combat seamlessly mixed with stealth attacks. The camera does a good job of keeping up for the most part, though occasional hiccups are expected in a game where you’re just as likely to spend half your time upside down or clinging to a wall.
The wealth of side-quests is so good that it’s often distracting from completing the main story as you come across another rucksack, drugs deal or bomb chase while swinging towards your goal. Yes, there are also towers, this time in the form of police radios, but the city is pretty much unlocked from the start and they just provide more detail on the side quests available in each region when you find and fix them.
With some great visuals, many of which have already found their way online thanks to the photo mode and Playstation sharing, excellent web-swinging and a great story, there’s only one word to describe Spider-man: Amazing.
Great mixture between Assassins Creed and Batman Arkham City, best of both worlds set in actual New York whilst it is a pleasure to get the grabs on the swinging mechanics to move around city.
As usual, only draw back is some of the side-missions could be a bit repetitive towards the end of the game, but main story line is great and will keep you on your toes until the end.
This kept my partner entertained for hours! I could get everything done 🙂
The stories were fantastic and the graphics were second to none. It seemed so real and jumping from high really made my belly go funny! But it’s a very good game and lots of little extras to do so its very much worth the money I paid!
The effort that went into creating Spider-Man is akin to the execution of the Batman arkham games. The graphics, story, side quests, hidden Easter eggs, customisation options and more make this an awesome game to play. Heck… I’ve spent more time exploring and looking at the detail than playing the game…. there is just sooooo much to see!!
Well made, looking forward to the next instalment (be it a second Spider-Man or another superhero title) from the developer.
If you like free roam games with great graphics and attention to detail coupled with a great storyline then this is the game for you. What are you waiting for? Manhattan needs Spidey!
Good to pick up when you have any bit of free time and dive straight into the action. Always something to do and keep you occupied. Story is thrilling, funny and quite long. Got game at released and still haven’t fully finished (well mainly due to balancing with uni work). Overall amazing game
I can’t fault this game at all. The graphics, the story, the combat, the puzzles, but most of is there any other game that gives you so much satisfaction than just swinging through the city felling like an aboslute boss. I played until 100% and it was gutted when it finally came to an end. Great for kids and adults. 10/10
Excellent game with superb graphics. They really nailed the web-slinging in this & it feels so fluid. Combat is decent, personally don’t think it’s as good as the Batman games (maybe because I’ve played them more recently) but is still fairly solid. Story is good & the boss battles, especially the latter are done very well. The side missions were ok but didn’t really hold my attention so didn’t end up doing them. Fell short of 5 stars as I felt it started to feel repetitive towards the end & with no replay value, once you’ve finished it, you’ll most likely move it on. Excellent 1st entry under their belts & I look forward to what their next game is like
Possibly one of the best games I’ve ever played. There are so many twists and turns to the story and unlike previous web head games; it’s not repetitive at all. I’ve just platinum’ed it and started over again! Everything from the combat system, the graphics and the storyline is just phenomenal, I just wish the game was longer!
Came in great condition, with pre ordered edition code. The game itself is good, but it’s very quick to complete it fully, could have done with more side quests and main story.
I really enjoyed the game, when it almost when it came out, I bought it for almost 50. I would give it 5 stars if the price was a bit cheaper.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
Buy it now, you will not be disappointed!
Great story with great gameplay, but the gem that steals the game is the side missions. I dare you to play the story without getting distracted by other missions. I bet you can’t!
You can literally lose days to this game! I went 18 hours in one sitting and I can’t say anymore than that to say how much I love a game!
Great game. Only qualm I had was with the main missions. While the side missions and fortresses were great I found the main missions extremely tedious. The missions that you play as MJ or Miles are just painful. From the second they start I couldn’t wait to get it finished. However, really enjoyed the game as a whole.
If you played the best spiderman games on earlier generation consoles, this is those games with updated graphics. The fluidity of movement they’ve accomplished with spiderman with modern technology is great. You really do feel like spidey when you play. If you are strapped for cash you can wait until the price drops as it doesn’t exactly revolutionize the super hero game genre but it is a solid addition to the line-up and is very enjoyable to play.
Man I have I don’t think I have done a review of any Spider-Man games well it’s going to change because man I love this game you to feel like Spider-Man man, this game will make you cry and smile man I love this great game for me it’s easy to adapt to the button controls for this game man 5 stars
Before I review this game, I should pont out that amazon’s courier messed the order up and dropped the game through the letterbox of another house (which isnt even attached to my house). fortunately said resident was kind enough to give me the game at a later date but amazon did nothing to follow up the query I left with them.
So to the game, this is quite possibly the best spider-man game I have every played (and I have played them all since the ps2 game of the original sam raimi film). the combat system felt like a dynamic mix of the arkham games crossed with assassins creed with a hint of ratchet and clank thrown in (not surprising considering Insomniac developed the R&C) franchise). The main storyline felt more fun to go through than all the live action films and most of the cartoon adaptions of spider-man. Like previous insomniac games, the main and supporting cast felt relatable and soundtrack/voicecasting suited the game
So, why hasnt this game gotten 5/5? well there are a few reasosn for this:
1) too many side-missions which felt repetitive
2)for an insomniac game, it is a surprise that a challenge mode wasnt part of the core game and in fact is part of the dlc
3) the story felt too short. – I played the game on spectacular (hardest) difficulty and despite completing all the side quests before the story, it took ~32 hours to complete with platinum trophy (or 8 hours a day over 4 days). There was far more side missions than there was story and if you are a completionist who prefers to finish the extra stuff 1st, then this feels a bit disjointed. without the side-missions, the game can easily be completed within 20 hours on spectacular dificulty with cutscenes.
4) You cannot skip / fast forward cutscenes – something of a hassle for speedrunners but not something I am fussed about
5)whilst satisfactory, the story felt a bit safe (without spoiling too much) and the potential sequel will have to be on top form to surpass this game.
Overall, it is a great game to play but isnt one with a lot of playback value. After you finish playing it once, you have literally nothing to do. My advice is to wait for all the dlcs to be released and then purchase a physical copy that has the dlcs as a part of the game. that way, you have more to do and if your not satisfied, you can always return the game (unlike download copies which void return policies as soon as you play it)
One of the best games currently on PlayStation and worth playing even if you don’t like marvel.
Makes a big change to have a great 1 player campaign with so many games going online only. The city is huge and swinging through it as Spider-Man is amazing, graphics are top notch as well.
Great story which keeps you coming back and some very enjoyable side missions.
Simply the best spiderman game yet, possible best superhero game yet. Engaging, fun, and a well told story with a lot of variety. The campaign is satisfyingly long and there are plenty of side missions and challenges to complete. The city crimes still continue after the story is finished and any outstanding challenges are there to finish. Brilliant.
The story is awesome, hands down. Love the combat, it never gets boring throwing enemies around and throwing them off buildings lol. Spider-man 2-esque swinging controls, super appreciate that. I love love LOVE the graphics, really solid work by devs, but it’s not just a pretty game, it’s like the city is alive and responds to Peter/Spider-man.
The gadgets, suits and mods are fantastic, I wish they had added the alien symbiote suit however, that’s pretty much all I wished they put in the game and maybe they’ll add it later.
Grab this game!
I have no doubts in calling this the best superhero game I’ve ever played. Leagues ahead of anything Spider-Man has had before where video games are concerned and taking from and improving upon the best aspects of titles like the Batman Arkham games.
The game looks absolutely stunning and maintains a steady frame-rate throughout no matter how hectic things get, and they get very hectic, very fast on multiple occasions throughout the games lengthy, yet gripping main story, which incorporates an all-star cast of iconic Spider-Man characters both friend and foe and does them all justice, nobody feels like they don’t get a moment in the spotlight in this game’s story and this is in large part thanks to the superb voice acting across the entire cast.
The game’s highly detailed rendition of Manhattan is a blast to explore with the games fast, responsive web-swinging and the collectibles, whilst plentiful, never feel like they slow things down due to how well they compliment the fast-paced nature of Spider-Man’s movement.
Combat is where the influence from the Arkham series is at its most abundant, but here it’s been made a lot faster and significantly more challenging in places with a variety of web shooters and other gadgets to give players the upper hand in fights against increasingly well-armed enemies who will punish players who are blindly mashing buttons and not paying attention to timing every move so as to avoid being blindsided by a far off enemy training their weapon on Spidey.
As far as I’m concerned this is as close to a perfect Spider-Man game as we have ever gotten and I can’t wait to see what Insomniac do with the franchise next.
This game is brilliant. Firstly, web swinging.. utter fun and totally therapeutic! The fights are super fun as well as you can do loads of moves the dodge system is proper Spider-Man! The story line is really engaging and fun with enough side quests to keep you busy but not so repetitive that you become bored. Finally the graphics are amazing which just adds icing to the cake. Great game well worth getting.
Amazing!
The story itself is great, graphics of course are lovely as well.
The game throws you into the action as soon as you start it.
It’s based on gaining experience and spending points on skills.
You have a bunch of suits to unlock all of which require different tokens.
Challenge: you get from bomb cases dotted around the city.
Science: are from oscorp station on rooftops.
Crime: like other Spider-Man games crimes take place randomly, complete them and you get a token.
Backpack: well that explains it really, find backpacks…
Landmarks: you find landmark locations and take a picture of them.
In total you have 27 suits 2 of which you get by completing certain things on the map.
There is a lot to do and I did find myself roaming around just finding different things from the marvel movies.
At the end credits there is a cut scene that you sorta knew was coming but if you skip the rest of the credits you are left with a bit of a story hanger! Which may suggest another game? Not sure but if it is anything like this one I’ll definitely pick it up.
Recommend this to anyone that is a marvel fan or enjoys the batman games as it is slightly similar to them.
Great game , the best Spider-Man game to date, swinging is flawless. Storyline is great and has some amazing twists, the city looks amazing and swinging just makes me feel like an eagle!
Fantastic from the first moments all the way to the end. Gripping story, exceptional free-roaming and great combat and stealth mechanics.
There’s a huge amount to keep you busy and engaged and while it can start to get repetitive near the climax of the story, it’s still impossible not to enjoy yourself.
A MUST BUY!
Awesome game. Too addictive though – completed it within a week. Great graphics, and you get to be Spider-man.
Now trading to CEX for 40, so technically cost me under a tenner for week. However will buy again when reduced and the DLC is out.
Visually stunning, well written and humourous. Haven’t encountered puzzle time mini games for a while (Think fixing your arm wires in terminator 2 for the C64). I find the fighting a bit repetitive at times but still enjoy i
This was my 11 year old sons favourite birthday present being a big Spider Man fan from a very young age. So happy that it was released a week before his big day and with Amazon Prime, it made it so easy for me to order at the last minute.
One of the most polished games I have seen, but the tower system used to open up new areas from the same repetitive side quests gives the game a I have done it all before feeling.
Think, infamous, AC, etc
Yet still a brillant games swinging around the city is great fun.
By far the best superhero game that’s graced a console in my lifetime. I’m a massive fan of the Batman Arkham series and I think they’ve taken a back seat to this game. The combat is so free flowing & easy to link with gadgets as well as in the air web moves and finishers. There’s plenty of side missions and tasks to occupy you if you want a break from the main story and a wardrobe of suits each with different abilities when in combat. So many Easter Eggs throughout the city of New York for those who are the hunting type too.
All around fantastic fun game. Will most certainly play through it again when I get the time.!
Really enjoyable game. Minus a star because it really doesn’t get going until the 3rd act, and some of the stealth sections just bring the game to a grinding halt for me. Otherwise spot on.
What a fantastic game, only a few hours in but I’m engrossed. The combat is brilliant and doesn’t feel too repetitive, the web mechanics are perfection and the graphics are simply stunning. Everything about this game is a masterpiece. Insomniac have truly poured their heart and soul into this game and it is a credit to the marvel universe. 10/10
Loved every bit of this game. The story line was first class, the graphics top notch, the webbing was brilliant and the suits were even better. Some people will drone about the crime missions being repetitive which I agree with but I didn’t care about that tbh its a small part of the game. I honestly don’t think I have played anything better this year.
I knew this game would be awesome but seriously it exceeded all my expectations, everything about this game is awesome it’s the best Spider-Man game of all time and i would deffinetly say that so far it’s the game of the year by far, if you like Spider-Man then you will love this game if i could give it more than 5 stars i would.
Fantastic game, so easy to whittle away hours just swinging through the New York skyline. There is so much to do in game that you will sometimes forget about the main storyline just to carry out the side missions.
Amazing game. I will keep this review as spoiler free as I can. Firstly, the length of story is decent- there were times when I thought I was nearly finished but then they threw us a curveball, which made for a gripping story. There is a few glitches, namely enemies spawning but not coming out of the areas they spawn in, which was annoying but the game has only been out a week so i accepted that. Graphics are 9/10, my only problem being some of the windows had very pixelated rooms inside (but that’s just because I was checking them all). There’s a wide variety of side missions, crimes and locations where groups of enemies spawn, which were all different, so it was always fun. I went for platinum so i completed everything and I’m glad I did, as I love Spiderman. All in all the game took 6 days to get platinum, but I was playing at the weekend and the evenings of the week after work. I recommend you buy this is if you’ve ever enjoyed a spidey book, film or game, as it’s great for all new and old fans.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4) is a great game!
I loved being able to take control of everyone’s favourite web head and explore Manhattan.
When you insert the disk, you can expect a 50GB update so be prepared to wait a little time to play.
The menu screen is simple and easy to use, nothing too exiting on it.
The web swinging mechanics are the best I’ve seen in a Spider-Man game to date. It is accurate not letting you attach to thin air and requiring you to have a surface to attach to.
The fighting in the game is decent, but can be very much button mashing exercise. be prepared to press the square button a lot should you get into a fight with many enemies. everything is down to timing tho, as you will press the circle button to evade incoming attacks. some enemies in the game might require a more tactical approach as based on their stature or weapon they can block, or are immune to, certain attacks. the only other variety of enemies are bosses, which you may recognise from films, other games and comics.
The main story for the game is enjoyable, but just as it feels as its coming together it comes to an end. I feel the build up to some of the enemy’s was disappointing. Such as Vulture, I fought with him no more than 3 times in the whole game. feels like a missed opportunity.
During the story there are opportunities to play as Miles Morales (as a regular person, although hints at him becoming Spider-Man in either a Sequel or a piece of Downloadable Content) and Mary Jane Watson.
The side missions in the game are very repetitive, with crime prevention and base shut down against 4 different factions. Research stations have some variety, but there is definitely an underlying feeling of copy paste mission types.
There are 27 different suits to unlock in the game (1 of which is for 100% completion)
There are 8 different Gadgets, mostly revolving around web abilities. These can all be upgraded to improved versions.
There are 3 major skill areas; Innovator (12 skills), Defender (11 skills) & Webslinger (11 skills)
I would estimate around 15 – 20 hours of playtime in this game, although the story could probably be done in under 10 hours.
Id recommend the game, but not sure if its worth the asking price. just feels like its lacking some content.
Not quite complete yet but so far the game has been amazing, definetly my favourite this year.
My only issue is that the game seems a bit short, but perhaps that’s just me.
Love the openness of the city and details of it. Some of the street fighting gets a little tedious and same same, but as you progress through levels, it should get better. Otherwise, a great game.
Thankfully, this game lives up to the hype created around it. Looks good, plays good and very very addictive. Even if you aren’t crazy about Spider-Man, this is a well polished and fun game that most people will enjoy.
If you are in two minds about picking this up, just do it. You won’t regret it.
So far this game is excellent . The main and most important thing is it feels brilliant to play as Spider-Man and swing through the awe inspiring city . There are some simple logic tests at first to throw you a curve ball which are a bit runic cube esque . Combat is awesome and in fact quite a test . The overwhelming thing here is that it is amazing to feel like Spider-Man and web slinging and swinging is simply enormous fun . A real blast this ! Well worth the money .
Excited about this game for a long time. The game has lived up to the hype and completely smashed my expectations. The graphics are beautiful, web slinging and combat is both fluid and satisfying, the game has a great campaign with plenty of other activities such as side quests, gang fights and many more.
Hands down beats all other spiderman games. If you’re spiderman fan and want a great game to keep you busy, highly recommend this.
Absolute Phenomenal game. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I was seriously investsted with the story from start to finish and even after completeing the main campaign there is still plently to do. I would highly recommend this game.
This game is outstanding visually and in its gameplay mechanics. Zipping around the city of New York has never felt so fluid and effortlessly cool. The combat is endlessly fun, there are tons of side quests, collectables and various random events that happen in the city such as robberies, car jackings & car accidents that you can choose to help out with to gain XP and save citizens in spectacular style or you can ignore them and come back to them later on in the game.
I personally have been playing for over 20 hours and I’ve barely even touched main missions because you can easily get wrapped up in swinging around the city or taking advantage of Photo Mode and getting some great shots to see the true detail of the huge open world.
So far I’m blown away with the game as a whole, it’s everything I’d hoped for and more. I can easily see myself getting 100% completion and coming back just for the visuals and the gameplay. This game is the real deal!
I’ve added a few of my own personal Photo Mode pictures to the review to show off the beauty of the game 🙂
The game itself is amazing but I pre order it and did get the extra i was promised which is a massive let dow
This game had a lot of hype but it actually exceeds it in my opinion. The world, the smoothness of movement, the combat and the story are all insanely well put together. 100% would recommend purchasing.
This is probably the best Spider-Man game ever made. And there have been lots of great games made about spidey. Graphics are brilliant, the story is well written and the action is majestic. A truly great experience.
I’ve played all Spider-Man games from consoles to handheld consoles, the only one I really enjoyed was Spider-Man 2 the movie. Now, Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 has made every Spider-Man game out there look so rubbish in my opinion. For me, this is the Game of the Year! Everything about it is perfect. I don’t know what Spider-Man would beat this one!
Spider-man, PS4, Standard Edition.
I’ve only played three hours of the game. Tarzan style swinging is smooth, exiting,
creates a great sense of speed. Graphics on standard edition are superb, seems a nice
mix of indoor/outdoor action. Combat is fluid and brutal. Kingpin looks superb.
I’ve almost shot the last of my web fluid, back to creeping up the side of buildings.
Recommended.
This game is brilliant fun. It really does what a super hero game should do – make you feel like one! Swinging around the city is great.
The only thing holding it back from 5 stars is the camera is awkward on occasion and the wall crawling is a pain in the ass
This game is absolutely amazing!! By far the best spider-man game ever created.
I’m sad that I’ve completed the story but hopefully there is a lot more for me to do when I get back into it, the web swinging is amazing and fun too as well as the combat which has a fair challenge even if I am fully upgraded…. definitely worth the money
Probably the last big game release that I have an interest in, before bidding adieu to future gaming etc. But what a game to end an era on. This manages to honour the games of the past, while teaching many modern games a lesson in slickness, writing and care. Insomniac always made “fun” games, but with Spider-Man, they’ve propelled themselves to the top. Fantastic 5/5

Review is still true, but there are glaring issues I simply wasn’t thinking of when first playing, that spoil the replayability. Issues that Spider-Man 2 on PS2 didn’t have. These are:
1. No fall damage makes jumping off tall buildings feel boring
2. Random things to do in city are always combat focused and rarely fun. Where is the pizza delivering or balloon catching style missions?
3. No day/night cycle destroys immersion and city feels synthetic as a result
4. Swinging requires zero skill as there are no animations for bumping into walls accidentally etc. Free flow is nice but it’s not earnt
5. The DLC was fine, but shallow. Not required play. Raimi suit was given for free after people paid for DLC
6. Story in the game was actually quite dull, although the writing was good. Things happen, but it’s all fairly pointless
7. Mary Jane is annoying and her wanting to be a reporter is extremely convenient writing
4/5
I was really excited about buying spiderman and it delivered more than what I expected. The graphics are so good e.g. the ocean looks super realistic and also swinging through the city during sunset or night time looks very good.
Loving this game! Reminds me of the older games on PS1 and 2. Feels like an assasins creed game with the exploration. Fluid gameplay, great storylike with the usual cheeky spiderman dialogue. Finally a game this year that allows for fun, rather than a strung out boring game. Well worth the money.
Based solely on the game and not the delivery ordeal this game is definitely a solid 5 star game. The animations of combat and the fluidity of webslinging are extremely pleasing. From what I’ve experienced so far the story is great and the soundtracks are excellent. Most definitely the game I was hoping it would be
Pulse racing combat, fantastic voice acting and dialogue and some stunning visuals. This is an incredibly well made game.
It’s a ton of fun to play and I’m only part of the way through. I’d be playing it now instead of writing this but my kid’s nabbed the PS4 to play it himself.
It’s been a great year for games, first God Of War, now this. PS4 exclusives really never disappoint, and I want to make this game last as much as possible. I’m a few hours into the game story but I’m doing all the side missions at the moment (amazing side missions btw, never boring), I don’t want to rush it, because it’s truly on a par with the Arkham series. Truly remarkable effort from the Insomniac team, 9.5/10
I’ve been looking forward to this for the past few years and have been watching all the gameplay demos, new announcement trailers etc. It is an amazing game! If you are a Spidey/Peter Parker fan then you are sure to love it. I’ll admit that I’m only a few hours into the story missions, but I’m loving everything so far and there is lots to do in your very own NYC playground.
Recommended to any Spider-Man fan, Marvel fan and PS4 owner. Also if you are a fan of the Arkham (Batman) games, this is in a similar vein in terms of gameplay. This is, so far, gunning to be one of my favorite Superhero games, and by far the best Spidey game since Spider-Man 2 on PS2 back in ’04.
ENJOY IT! I know I am!
Side note: Please ignore the facepalm critical reviews/ratings that don’t reflect the game itself but customer service stuff like shipping (not a valid reason to negatively review a product) and pre-order bonuses (they emailed it to the email address linked to your Amazon account).
To people unsure about redeem codes. You need to access your Amazon profile, and look in your active messages. The code will have been sent through there.
Fantastic solid gameplay. The Web singing is very fluid and becomes super fun once you unlock the aerial moves e.g. backflips, twists and spins in any direction. I’m definitely going to enjoy this game and with the wait.
Only about 2 hrs in but so far everything I expected. Its lighter than the batman games but very similar in combat. For the pre-order bonus I just checked my emails and there it was, a day before release.
I have no words to describe this masterpiece of a game. I mean they have not one but 2 end credits for a game… Marvel is simply brilliant. Just a personal opinion though, i felt the story was better than spiderman homecoming. Brilliant story, brilliant graphics, great voice actors, oh and great suits, exceptional in every way possible. Anything less than 5 stars is an insult to this game. Xbox and PC players are missing out on so much.
