What a great phone for the money welcome back Nokia the only gripe is it’s a little on the heavy side due to the protection it gives other than that a lovely phone
Fantastic quality camera, really like the portrait mode. Night time clarity is decent. The military grade is legitimate. Have dropped my phone on average, once daily, since getting it 2 months ago. On concrete, tiles, timber, in Bunnings, at work all from approx 1-1.7m high. No damage!
Best military grade phone I’ve ever had
I removed the default gesture setting for a back button and the usual buttons at the base of the screen.
Have had the phone for several months. On receipt it updated to Dec 2021 updates. Then several months before Android 12 OTA appeared. Nokia advertising monthly regular updates. I guess they are struggling to commit to this. Hardware build excellent as it is Nokia and one reason I bought . It took Android 12 software to recognise my O2 phone number.
I switch off my phone just before going to bed but on a regular basis the phone reboots itself. Very annoying. No idea why this occurs. Otherwise a great phone. Finger print reader hit and miss but maybe future software updates will resolve?
It’s a wireless charging Nokia.
Rugged
On the heavy side
Great phone. Battery lasts all day from a morning recharge on a fast charger.
However, the fingerprint sensor is on the right hand side rather than at the back – which means it’s constantly locking itself requiring PIN entry whenever I pick up the phone and touch the sensor. This phone would be perfect if the sensor was sited on the back, like it is on a Google phone.
Okay so I wanted a phone that was waterproof and didn’t break the bank and I found this on sale for 330
It has long term software support and good features and is built very well, these are the reasons I chose it, but what is it like?
It’s fast responsive and a lot bigger than I thought it was, if you are wanting a small in the hand phone, this is not for you.
The battery life is fantastic and the charging is super fast. *Note it only comes with a charging cable, you will need your own fast charging plug.
The camera is good enough but isn’t going to win any awards but for the price range it’s pretty good, just don’t expect flagship quality.
The software layout I wasn’t overly a fan of but that’s the pros of Android I just customised it and now I love the layout.
The NFC contactless payments you need to hold the power button to bring up the card payment menu and hold it pretty close to the payment terminal.
It feels nice in the hand and has a very nice screen although the adaptive brightness can be a little aggressive.
All said and done I love this phone and the features
I love this phone, I have the 6gb variant. I have taken a star off because the speakers on the phone itself aren’t great, they crackle and the volume goes up and down, also there’s no native music player app, however, playing music through external speakers or headphones is absolutely fine. Taking pics isn’t really something I have done loads of as I haven’t had the opportunity but the ones I have taken are perfectly acceptable, there is a manual mode so if you do know what you’re doing, there is a degree of control(I don’t), portrait mode setting is good for quick shots, there’s also a night mode. The screen colours can look a Iittle washed out and pale, even with the warmer setting, but I like a darker screen anyway so for me, it’s not that noticeable when watching tv. I realized I just didn’t use nor need all the bells and whistles that flagship phones have, I never used them on my recently discarded high end Sony Xperia 1 ii and as much as I told myself I would learn about photography to get the best out of it, well I just didn’t, and 4k is great if there is actually anything available to watch, also the licensed case cost over 40 for my old phone, so not needing a case is a real bonus; with this phone I am not scared of dropping it, which I haven’t yet btw; it’s reassuringly wide without being overly thick and not an issue for my fat but small hands to handle. I have no case on it, nor do I have a screen protector, I just have faith that it won’t shatter when dropped, I did buy a wrist lanyard, Nokia really should supply one, although if I am being honest, depending on your needs, it probably isn’t something everyone will want, having said that, they are missing a trick with the free advertising, because actually, the phone is aesthetically very pleasing, I have the green, generally I opt for black phones cos you’re probably going to put a case on it, but people have coveted it after seeing it with no restrictive case. Battery is pretty good, have been watching football on it and I would say it lost about 9% -10% over 90mins, I have about 33 % left at present and that’s after about 14hrs of use, including 3hrs of watching said football and TV over the net, I am not a gamer though so I don’t know how it would perform, having said that, I have played the odd game and it seems fine. It has wireless charging which has been great, I use my kindle fire 8 charger so it’s also a stand and that works very well. The internet connection hasn’t dropped, I can’t comment on 5g as I don’t think it’s available where I live, although it’s supported by the phone, Bluetooth is easy to connect and it has an expandable memory, the fingerprint scanner however, can be erratic but I don’t think that’s unique to this phone having had issues with my Xperia, (it could also be down to user error), the only phone I have had to send away to be fixed, to give some context, I have had many, many phones!! All in all, it’s a workhorse of a phone, my priorities may be different from yours but if you’re a parent whose kids mess with your phone, or you’re accident prone, careless, just wanting something functional you’re not scared of breaking cos it would cost too much to replace, but looks good, this phone is great.
I am sure that this phone does all that is claimed. It is robust and easy to use. All data transferred easily from my Sony. A good feel to it also.
Impressive battery life, very responsive and well made phone, after couple of updates works really well
I have my XR20 a few weeks, very happy with it,does exactly what a rugged Nokia phone is expected to do,nice looks, works very well in all my work conditions so far(Ambulance Service). Easily operated with one hand, solid feel, bright screen, good sound. Still a bit pricey, but worth it. A rugged version of the T20 tablet would be a sound investment.
Thanks Nokia.
